TRAINEE MISSION 016 - SATURDAY

Asami knows how to cook, but her food is considered bland to most people in Korea, so that's why when they separate into groups to prepare the meals, she volunteers to do the most boring task, which is cleaning up after everyone once everyone has finished eating.

Something about Asami is that she doesn't mind most boring activities. Doing simple things can be soothing to her, especially when she's in an environment so different from the one she's used to, and she has been struggling with the whole variety show setting since they arrived, to be honest.

"You spent the whole evening in chopping wood and building the fence, right? Your back isn't hurting?" someone asks her, and Asami lifts her head from the plates she's cleaning to look at the staff, and she imagines this is yet another segment they might or might not use for the show. Asami thinks she's good with words and she's not usually shy, but when she talks to people normally, there aren't stakes to be funny. She's not a naturally fun person to begin with. "Oh no, my posture wasn't so bad earlier, so I'm good," she offers the team with a sheepish smile and thinks that'll be enough, so she turns to the task at hand again. "You do have very good posture. Care to elaborate on why?" and that cues Asami that maybe she hasn't said enough to make them satisfied, so Asami does her best not to sigh at her limitations and turns again. "I used to be a ballerina for the longest time before becoming a trainee, and my mom was also a ballerina, but she wasn't strict about it. I just learned not to hunch over and force my back too much, that's all, that's why I don't have any issues," she nods her head and hopes, and prays that this will finally be enough. She has talked about this before and over and over, and at this point, she has run out of things to say other than, "I used to go to competitions and would probably be a professional ballerina now, but I've changed career paths, and I'm on the countryside filming for a variety show I'm not good at."

They leave her alone after that.

Should we talk about how he just wants to protect the people he loves and keep them safe? Or should we talk about how much of an outsider he probably felt like in his earth kingdom family and how he had no connection to his fire nation side or any family members who looked like him? Should we talk about how he had no positive firebending role models growing up and even as an adult, how the only firebenders he ever interacted with were triad members? Or maybe we should talk about how betrayed he must have felt by everyone when varrick framed him, or how betrayed and lonely and abandoned and useless and low he must have felt when Bolin had left and he found out korra had stayed in touch with asami but not him? Or what about the guilt and shame and trauma from when he straight up killed creepy waterbender arms lady ming hua? Or what about the fact that he full on sacrificed himself—fully expecting to die— to save Republic City from Kuvira’s evil spirit vine weapon, and was permanently scarred (and probably disabled from it), and how he first ordered Bolin to get out and save Kuivira’s soldiers and himself while Mako stayed behind to blow up the weapon (and probably die in the process)? Or maybe we should talk about how he was so insanely fucking smart and clever and resourceful and logical and rational and brave and also such a huge dork and nerd when he was allowed to be and didn’t have to have all the responsibility and weight of the world on his shoulders? What do you want to talk about friend because I could talk about mako aaaallllllllll fucking day!!

Okay so Korra is the type of high where she just fucking. Wanders off. You turn your back on her for a second in the art supplies and next thing you know she’s in the plant nursery you didn’t even realize this location had. I feel like they’re at Walmart in the first place because Korra got hungry and they don’t have anything in the house besides dog food (dysfunctional queens). She gets to groceries and starts out on a protein kick (four kinds of jerky, giant jar of peanut butter) but then gets distracted and ends up with like. family-size twizzlers, frozen mozzarella sticks, a can of creamed corn, a chainsaw, and a basketball hoop for children.

Meanwhile. Our girl Asami has found the adult Legos. She is transfixed, mesmerized, glued to the spot. Her eyes are HUGE. She’s sitting on the floor drawing in the air with her finger trying to figure out how to make a Rube Goldberg machine out of combined Lego models of the White House, a commercial jet, and a vase of flowers. It’s very important business.

If Korra ever drags her away from there to the checkout, she has to remind Asami that she can’t just tell the cashier to “put it on her tab”. They try to head back with their haul but get distracted making out against the exterior of the Walmart because Asami saw the new chainsaw and is picturing Korra doing yardwork again.

4. Which one is more protective? Who needs to be ‘protected’? (Irosami)

OMG these two!!!  They kill me with this. They’re equally protective of each other in one way or another. 

Iroh has the tendency to shoulder burdens on his own and has little self preservation. 

Asami loves him, she really does, but man does it frustrate her when he does that. She is someone who does well in keeping Iroh grounded. And when he does too much of this to himself, she’s there to shake him by the shoulders and tell him, “Please don’t keep running yourself into the ground like this! I’m here for you.”

Asami, on the other hand, is equally bold and takes a lot of chances in the situations she finds herself in.

Do they put her in danger on occasion? Yeah. But she says she has a job to do, so…

From an outside perspective, Iroh will worry for her and tends to be more explicit about his concern in acting protective. While he knows she can handle herself and that she is capable… he can’t help it.

The question of who needs to be protected? They would equally argue that the other does. It works out then that they’ve got each other’s back. They work so well for that.

9. What are their thoughts on having children? (Ryuvira)

Absolutely not.

Kuvira believes that given her rough childhood with her bio family and then feeling like an outsider with the Beifongs, she would not be a good role model of a parent. It’s a frightening and foreign concept to her. She also wouldn’t want to bring a child into her world with her own history. “Redeemed” or no, it would cause a lot of problems for the kid.

Kids make Ryu feel uncomfortable. While over the years in his line of work and trainings, he’s gotten better on how to handle kids, he is perfectly happy with the concept of returning them to their parents at the end of the day

The only child they’re okay with is their fox cat fur child Claw-ssus

14. How do their personalities compliment each other? How do they clash? (Linzin)

In the ways that their personalities compliment one another, they also clash, and I find that fascinating about them. 

Lin is typically the more explicitly stubborn, focused, and grounded of the two. She tends to stay dialed in on her goals and outside of that, caring for the ones she loves.

Tenzin is not so much stubborn, but rather serious when it comes to his goals and what he wants out of life. Can that be displayed as stubbornness? Yeah, depending on the occasion and circumstance.

When it comes to Lin, he’s persistent in wanting to have her in his life. Lin is stubborn in closing herself off when her head is speaking louder than her heart. 

Like, shut up and let him in, he’s trying!

This also tends to be a pattern when it comes to any conflicts they have in their relationship. It’s not always Lin digging her heels in, though. Very situational dependent since they each have their own life goals, passions, and interests.

They drive each other to do better in what they want out of life and by the end of the day, they are able to return to each other and still “get” each other. Let their guards down and accept one another. 

Speaking on the serious sides of their personalities, Lin’s may be more dominant while Tenzin is more of a free-spirit with a sense of humor that he tries to keep in check on occasion. While Tenzin feels as though he is supposed to be a more serious leader and set a good example, Lin loves to see the more lighthearted side of him as it brings levity in her life. She also appreciates the breaking down of his more serious demeanor in front of her.

Hot take now, but maybe if the Legend of Korra guys couldn’t make Korra/Asami play due to behind-the-scenes constraints... they just shouldn’t have done it?

I’m just saying, when Spielberg made Jaws and the shark animatronic wasn’t working, he didn’t put a shitty, unmoving shark up on the screen like “sorry guys, the model shorted out on us, bear with me and pretend this is scary. What, don’t you like sharks?”

No! He worked around it for the good of the story. And maybe storytellers should care more about telling the best story they can than crowbarring in representation when that representation isn’t done well.

For another analogy, imagine if at the end of Return of the Jedi, Luke announced he was getting married to Wedge. Same exact movie, same exact two prior movies, it just ends with Luke getting married to the guy that’s been in the trilogy for ten minutes over three movies and barely interacted with Luke.

You’d think “whoa, wait a minute, I’d buy that they were friendly, but you’re asking me to believe they’ve been having some big love affair entirely off-screen?” It’d be distracting and risible and make you think George Lucas had an ulterior motive other than doing right by Luke’s character. (Or Wedge’s, for that matter.)

I don’t know, I think there are plenty of people to advocate for hot lesbians in cartoons, for one reason or another. Is it too much to ask that someone advocates for the story making sense and being believable?

It was ticking down to midnight on new years eve, and Asami Sato was deep in thought.

We never should have shared our first kiss.

Never should have started dating.

Never should have fallen in love.

Korra shouldn't have proposed.

None of this would have been possible without that heart transplant.

The wonderful stranger that gave Korra a new life.

Asami glanced over from her spot chatting amongst Opal and Bolin to look over at Korra.

Her amazing wife was cuddling up with Naga on the large sofa. Stroking her as she played Mario kart with Jinora, Ikki and meelo.

Asami suddenly started to well up with tears as she watched Korra loose on purpose to make Ikki feel better.

"Go be with her" Opal whispered into Asami's ear, reading her mind in the way that only a best friend can.

Asami sniffled as she nodded and padded over to Korra, sitting sideways on her wife's lap.

"Hey. Missed me already"?, Korra mumbled into her wife's hair.

The CEO nodded as she traced Korra's heart-shaped tattoo on the inside of her exposed forearm.

She glanced down and ghosted every mark of the tally under the small heart.

Eight.

Eight extra years we got together.

Eight years with my soul mate.

"Hey". Korra said softly, cottoning on to her wife's sense of melancholy. "I'm still here. I'm okay. The old girl's still ticking. Wanna listen"?

Asami giggled despite herself at Korra's nickname for her new heart. She nodded. "Sure. I'd love to listen to the old girl".

Korra smiled and unzipped her hoodie, revealing an angry scar that made a cross shape across her chest.

Asami smiled sadly up at her.

"It's okay Sami. It doesn't hurt anymore. I promise" Korra told her softly.

"But. The scar ......".

"Ruined my modelling career yes. But it's given me a new life. Listen. Being a professional model was amazing, I got to live my dream, I have no regrets. I don't feel self conscious about the scar anymore, it's apart of me now, it's helped me grow as a person".

This was true. Korra was now the face of the 'stitch a broken heart' campaign. Run by the four nations heart foundation. They've raised over ten million yuans since Korra joined the campaign, her revealing her heart condition went world wide in a matter of minutes thanks to her high ranking social media presence.

Asami took a shaky breath and ghosted the scar with trembling fingers. Glancing up for even the slightest glimpse of pain on her wife's placid face.

After seeing no change Asami tilted her head down and rested her ear on top of her wife's chest.

The strong, steady beat of Korra's heart instantly soothed her.

"I told you. There's still life in the old girl yet".

Asami rolled her eyes. Korra's heart was younger than the rest of her body by some years. The 'old girl' would out live her .... if that even makes sense.

"You guys. The count down has begun"! Bolin bellowed from the other side of the room.

One of Asami's many servants hurried around passing out drinks to all of the young billionaires guests.

Asami took a flute glass full of champagne. Whilst Korra (prohibited from drinking alcohol for the foreseeable by her doctor) took a sparkling orange juice.

"TEN, NINE, EIGHT, SEVEN, SIX, FIVE, FOUR, THREE, TWO, ONE ...... HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!".

"Happy new year Sami" Korra whispered to Asami, before kissing her lovingly on the lips and taking a sip of her orange juice.

"Happy new year baby. And here's to many more", Asami smiled lovingly at her, before bringing her wife into another kiss, which grew into a storm of feather light kisses all over the former models face, causing her to giggle.

"You know there are children present don't you"? Tenzin's voice floated over to them.

"Sorry Uncle T" Korra told her godfather.

The two broke apart and Asami dragged her disgruntled wife over to the make shift dance floor.

The couple happily slow dancing to the pop song playing in the background.

The two had always danced to their own beat, so why stop now.

Okay, let's do this! So, how would the characters celebrate birthdays? These are general headcanons for the most part.

Korra:

Birthdays were one of the events that allowed Korra time-off from training at the White Lotus compound. While maintaining tight security measures as precaution, Korra would celebrate her special day in the company of her parents and the community as they joined on an evening of song and dance around a fire, and a hearty dinner featuring the birthday girl's favorite dishes to round the celebration. Korra might no longer spend her birthdays at the South Pole but she has managed to recreate the tradition with her extended family at Air Temple Island in the company of Tenzin and the rest of the Air Nomad family and of course, with newcomer Kuvira surprised everyone and especially Korra demonstrating her artistic sensibilities by quickly learning the traditional dance from Kya.

Kuvira:

Birthdays were for a long time a touchy subject for Kuvira, given that she could barely remember how she spent them with her biological family. After she was taken in by the Beifongs, When Suyin realized the little girl wasn't sure when her birthday was, decided that instead of her birthday, they would celebrate the day she joined the Beifong clan. For Kuvira, the change of date was bittersweet reminder of her status as an abandoned child, and it took years until she was able to shed the melancholy of her situation and genuinely feel grateful and hopeful. Although Su favored big and bombastic celebrations for her children, Kuvira preferred small and intimate among friends instead of big and loud celebrations and thoughtful presents which reflected the personal touch of the giver instead of extravagant and expensive gifts, something that both Korra and Asami learned and used to their advantage to come up with creative and insightful details for Kuvira which appeal to her pragmatic, practical side, except the polar bear pup plushie from Korra (The Path). That totally appealed to her inner kid. Or the deluxe hardcover detective novels collection from Asami (Choices) because she's a sucker for those. 😂

Asami:

Since she was a child, Asami learned to favor building pleasant memories over amassing material things, a lesson she learned from her mom, Yasuko, and her loss just drove the point home. That's why she prefers to spend her special day surrounded by her friends and loved ones, sharing moments and having fun. Whether it is relaxing at the Sato mansion pool or a beach day or racing her custom racecar at her private track or a picnic for three (Asami, Kuvira, and Ying) what it matters for Asami is forging happy memories that will last a lifetime. She has a special ritual she has kept throughout the years. Before starting the festivities, Asami always takes a moment to remember her mom at the family shrine she has at the mansion, and after marrying Kuvira, in the new family shrine her wife had prepared at the palace in Ba Sing Se, with the miniature model of the main building of Future Industries that she designed and built with Yasuko displayed prominently.

Yen : She is a female La squadra member the girlfriend of Prosciutto, she is a bit giddy but also she does play a somewhat minor towards major role. I don’t know.

Magnolia : The girlfriend of Bucciarati near the end, she is a member of Bucciarati gang as she is considered one of the most prettiest girls.

Ombra : Ombra is apart of Unita Speciale. She is Sapphic & sometimes really unhinged & out of pocket.

Feng : she is the narcissistic Dermatologist/Surgeon wife of Cioccolata with her son Viktor.

Em : Em is the undead assistant of Feng. WHO absolutely hates anyone affiliated with Feng. She hates Feng.

Momo : she is the secret Daughter of Jotaro he had when he accidentally got into a one night stand. She is also in Viktor group ‘Holy Grail’

Mithai : The demonic fairy girlfriend of Momo who seems to just appear out of no where when she wants to.

Amy : The old showgirl who is in green dolphin prison like Momo, Viktor & Mimi. She rather is more random.

Mimi : The ex Vkei artist who got put into jail for a assaulting multiple people just for her friends.

Ryota : The time traveling old man-child who knows how to make crazy inventions & documents everything

Mr. Russo : The Butler of Ryota who use to have affiliation with the mafia.

Ambra : The daugther of Prosciutto & Yen along with her unnamed Siblings as Ambra is a model.

Sato : The gay married man who married Jotaro after he(Jotaro) divorced his wife during a few years prior of part 6.

5. what was your character's dream job as a kid? is it different than what their career ended up being?

dream job was to become a lawyer 😂 as a kid, she never really had a dream job as she was sure to never graduate. though, after giving it some thought, she was set on becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner.

12.  how well does your OC do in school?

pretty well ! yua is no short of being a model student when it comes to her grades and attendance. only red flag is how her parents seem to never show up at the parent-teacher meetings, but it doesn't bother her at all.

asami kobayashi

asami used to be a student of misaki high - an art and performances school known in the area where many idols and trainees attend. for example, she used to be teammates with yurie norizuki (ex twinkles member). she left misaki high to pursue basketball at seiryo. her agency allowed her to have extra curricular activities other than the dance club and there was no basketball club at misaki high.

though, yua and her “met” before she even got to seiryo. to promote as a rookie trainee of the company she was signed as, asami (along with other girls) would often do street performances around ijincho. yua saw when they performed a popular song at hamakita park. asami stood out (by being so tall LOL) and by such a good dancer !!!! so, she was kinda shocked to later find out they were attending the same school. 

they were introduced to each other by koda as asami is a one of her basketball senpai and became friends by asami trying to recruit yua in the basketball club 😭😭😭 

kenya oshikiri

it was quite the event for some people when yagami announced that he was going back to kamurocho for good. the last of them being a "goodbye" boxing tournament held by coach todoroki for yagami at the boxing gym. this being the very last thing he'll do before leaving, so, yua thought he would be a good idea to bring him a parting gift then.

mostly because it would be too weird to do it at school (like for the average seiryo student, "how does she even know yagami like that" 😂 being the kyodai of her dad, yagami is almost like her honorary uncle). she shows up to the gym not really expecting to fall on one of her other classmates there... LOL 😭 (they literally sit one desk apart in sawa's class)

past the awkward misunderstanding of "uhhhhh what is my classmate doing here" and "why would you even bring one of your classmates here" from the other boxing mentors, they're able to laugh it off a bit and they surprisingly get along quite well.

the thing is she's doesn't wear the gloomy face she sometimes has in class. instead, she's quite lively and bubbly 😭 and cheering for yagami ! and having quite a good time!! cute !! 😭😭😭😭

Do you have any tips for drawing asami's face? I'm struggling 💀 ig it's hard to make her recognizable for some reason

ooh so yeah I can give you some tips that helps me, and you can take this with a grain of salt because everyone is different and what works for me might not work and so on.

So, I am going to be pretty honest with you, I change the way I draw Asami almost every time. I’m often looking for ways to improve and finding my own comfortable style with her, but there are some things that I find that helps with keeping Asami recognizable while I'm evolving.

This is a bit of a long post, so I had to cut it.

When in doubt, I like to refer back to the original sources. Like the artbooks and any official art, for example.

I like using these as reference as I try to figure out how I want to approach drawing Asami. I know some artists like to stay on model, but personally, I find that time consuming and stressful (I tried it years ago with FMA and my art was very stiff and I was not having a good time). So instead, I look at different angles and try to identify certain features that makes Asami, Asami. Looking at other artists can help too, especially if you want to adopt a style or if you like a particular way they create.

Overall, Asami is glamorous and elegant so I try to draw some attention to that when drawing her. Some key features I tend to keep are her hair, eyes, and face shape. Drawing her with make-up helps with recognition since she wears eye shadow and bold lipstick whereas other characters don't. But sometimes, there are situations I draw Asami in, where I don’t think she would wear make-up (e.g., going to bed, waking up in the morning, shower, etc.), so having to find some other features helps me.

I notice she has a distinctive widow’s peak, which I often use as a placement point for the center of her face. On top of that, I try to keep her hair part well-defined since it also helps me with her overall hair shape. She also has thick, wavy hair with the ends curling. Plus, the way that front section wraps around her face sometimes, is just... she is so stunning. It can help define her face shape. I think keeping these hair features aid in recognition with different artistic styles as well.

Aside from hair, her eyelashes help enhance some of her beauty; especially if I want to bring attention to those vibrant, green eyes. Of course, she would have mascara in her makeup arsenal, but even without it, I like to think she has naturally long eyelashes. She is absolutely stunning. I mean look the image of the Krew above... *eyelashes*

I also find myself drawing Asami with more angular features than I would Korra. For example, her chin would be a bit more pointed, and the bridge of her nose a bit more defined. Sometimes I will even define her lips.

In any case, whatever stands out to you is your best bet in trying to capture this beauty. It's most important to have fun with it. and idk it is probably weird but i find myself falling in love with her when i draw her. She is beauty, she is grace, she is Asami Sato, bender of Avatar Korra and my heart.
