ok so as many of you will know, I have a couple of characters of a fanganronpa. I’ve not talked about most of the plot, but Oh Boy Have I Thought About It. for anyone who is interested, here is a big ol infodump of all of my ideas so far for Danganronpa: Attention!

tw for death, guns and implied child abuse ahead. Proceed with caution.

Pregame:

- Our protagonist is Basil. She is the Ultimate Strategist, awarded this title by the talent-centric university (aka college) she attends. This is in the same universe as the events of the games, as (in this version) there are talent schools all over the world as well as Hope’s Peak in Japan.

- Before attending the university, her father has noticed her talent and used it for somey, pretending that he was coming up with strategies when really it was her behind the scenes. The things she was asked to strategise for became increasingly unethical, from businesses to war.

- Meanwhile, elsewhere, Cory is a struggling journalist. She’s never given the big stories, and she is rejected time after time. However, at some point she realises it would be a lot easier if she could bend the truth a little. Just enough to get the story moving. All of a sudden her stories are on the front page, and the jobs are rolling in.

- Everything in the rest of this section is forgotten before the start of the killing game, so you can skip this bit for now or just read it

- On one of the rare occasions that Basil ventures out, she bumps into Cory outside the gates of the (thus far unnamed) university. Cory can see a story in her, and on the spot convinces Basil to try to apply. Basil sees that this is an opportunity to escape her current situation, and agrees. Both of them apply, as the Ultimate Strategist and Ultimate Journalist respectively, and both are accepted.

- Basil has cut ties with everyone she knows (which was very few people) in order to attend, so she immediately sticks to Cory. They go through their first year in university together hardly talking to anyone else, and generally regarded as odd.

- This is when The Tragedy occurs. The area containing the university becomes completely filled with radiation, and no one is allowed to enter or leave. It soon becomes clear that they have been left to die. At this point only the first year class is left. This is when Cory comes up with an idea, inspired by the Hope’s Peak killing game broadcast. If they got the world watching, then at least whoever survived would surely be rescued. With no other hope for survivial, everyone agrees. And thus, preparations begin.

Ch1:

- As usual, everyone wakes up with memories of each other erased, believing that they have just arrived on their first day.

- They are greeted by MonoCopy, a 2D greyscale projection that mimics the appearances of the contestants. She appears on the full-length screens that are all around the campus. Everyone is trapped inside a large boarded-up campus building, containing a lecture hall where MonoCopy explains the game.

- Cory immediately suggests that they should be suspicious of one another, and is thus pushed away from the others for planting the seeds of mistrust. Basil just keeps quiet and goes along with what everyone is doing.

- Cory continues to antagonise everyone in typical rival fashion. Everyone regars her with mistrust. She has an interest in Basil specifially, and sometimes playfully messes with her a little to try to get her out of her shell.

- Eventually the first murder happens. During the first half of the trial, Cory is purposefully trying to get eveyone riled up and they are going around in circles, solving nothing. Eventually, Basil starts refuting people and solving the case. The others are glad to let someone else do the work, but find it weird how much Basil and Cory seem to be enjoying solving a murder.

- The case is solved and the murderer executed. Basil realizes that her solving the case was to blame for their death. Cory tries to convince her that it had to be done, but she tells her to go away.

Ch2-5:

- The next morning, when Basil goes to breakfast she is beaten up by the others, who blame her for their friend’s death. Cory finds her, and convinces her that at least she thinks she did the right thing.

- The next few trials, it is left mostly to Basil to solve everything. The others don’t like her much. She tries not to look the murderers in the eyes before they are executed.

- Cory fell for Basil immediately, but over these chapters Basil processes her own feelings for Cory. All things considered, they are pretty happy during the daily life sections between trials.

- In chapter 5, Cory is acting odd and hiding something.

Ch6:

- Cory convinces Basil she is the mastermind. She has video evidence to back this up, of her pregame self coming up with the idea. She threatens Basil with a gun, and then ‘drops’ it, allowing Basil to pick it up. Basil is scared and feels betrayed, and with a bit of pushing from Cory her finger slips on the trigger, shooting Cory. She immediately drops the gun and tries to stop the bleeding but it’s too late. Cory smiles and directs a sobbing Basil to a stack of papers in her room before she dies.

- Cory had figured out the motive behind the game (see the ‘pregame’ section) and realised that no help was coming, and the only way to be saved would be to win. She was determined that that person would be Basil. So, she put together the perfect crime, trusting Basil’s talent to execute it. With everything she knew torn apart, she shuts off her feelings and follows the plan.

- During each trial up until this point, Basil has solved the muder herself and has only had to convince the others of her conclusion at the end. Therefore, when she lies through her teeth they don’t know any better. Basil is holding back tears as she casts her vote.

- As per the rules, everyone else dies. At this point all of her emotions come flooding back and she realises what she’s done.

- MonoCopy shows her a video left by the students wishing whoever won good luck as the doors to the building finally open, revealing the Future Foundation waiting there for rescue.

Postgame:

- The ending certainly isn’t as hopeful as the canon games’, but it’s not all bad. She devotes herself to rescue efforts for other people in similar situations. For the first time in her life, she can use her talent for something good and something that she truly chose.
