#mother: I just think it’s important you get vaccinated

Hi! I know that it's important to socialize a puppy well with both people and other dogs. But I also know you shouldn't let a puppy in contact with other dogs or walk it in areas where other dogs go before they have been fully vaccinated to prevent diseases.
Does that mean the socialization starts only after they get all their vaccines? Or is there something I'm missing here? Also because I thought the early periods of a dog's life were especially important with regards to socialisation.
Thanks!
Question tax: who was the cutest puppy you've seen recently?
vet-and-wild here.
It is no longer recommended to wait to start socializing a puppy until after their vaccine series is done, but you do need to take precautions. The reason is that there is a critical socialization window right in the middle of this time that ends around 16 weeks. That doesn't mean they can't learn or be socialized outside of this time, but the experiences they have in this time period are very important for setting the stage to how they react to stimuli in the future. Puppies who are improperly or under socialized during this period are much more likely to have behavioral issues as adults.
It's important to also understand why we booster puppy vaccines so many times. Depending on what kind of vaccines or disease exposure the mother had, this same time period is when the maternal antibodies the puppy received will be lost. Those maternal antibodies protect the puppy, but also interfere with vaccine efficacy. We don't know when they will lose the protection from those maternal antibodies, so we booster through this period to make sure they are protected. So just having 1 or 2 vaccines wouldn't guarantee that the puppy was fully protected.
The compromise is to avoid areas of potentially higher risk during this time. Dog parks, for example, may be full of dogs of unknown vaccine status and could have wildlife around that may carry parvo, distemper, etc. However, a puppy class at a reputable training facility only allows vaccinated dogs and should have disinfection protocols in place to help reduce the risk of disease spread. Basically, your puppy doesn't need to live in a bubble during this period, but you should use reasonable caution. Also keep in mind that socialization doesn't necessarily mean meeting a bunch of people or dogs! It just means positive exposure. Sitting out in your yard and practicing appropriate reactions to strange dogs walking by is socialization. Playing videos with thunder, fireworks, etc and getting the puppy used to it is socialization. Getting used to the car, medical handling, grooming, strangers coming in the house, all of that is part of socialization.
I tried to think of the cutest puppy I've seen but I'm going to be lame and say they're all cute cuz I keep changing my mind!

Seb and mama convincing mick to keep a puppy that they found on the street
Tw: mentions a dog getting older, supposed dog abandonment, vaccinations and deworming
"Do you think it's a good idea?", you asked your son, expecting him to give you a more elaborate answer, but, really, what was a five year old going to tell you? "Of course, mama. When papa sees her, he'll want to keep her too if we don't find her family", he said, full of hope.
When you, with Harriet safely strapped to your chest, and Sebastian took Angie for her walk in the afternoon, you came across a beautiful dog who started playing with yours. The street was quiet and there wasn't anyone around, and while the dog didn't look in distress, you could tell that she had had better days, and when you wanted to go back home, Sebastian was worried for her, "what if she doesn't know where her family is? She came some with us, right? We have a big house", he reasoned, eventually winning you over and taking her home with you.
When Mick got home, Aurora went straight upstairs to do her homework, leaving you and Sebastian to attempt your best at convincing him, "why is there another dog in our garden? Is it one of your colleagues'?", your husband asked, taking your silence as a clue to turn around and face you, placing his glass of water down on the kitchen island, seeing you and Sebastian sitting in two of the stools like you were about to have an important business meeting.
"Papa, when me, Harriet and mama went on our walk with Angie today", Sebastian began his explanation, "we found this dog! And she was all alone, she didn't have any friends, no dog friends or friends like us, no people, and we didn't want to leave her alone, and she followed us, too. Can we keep her?", he asked as if he had just asked him if he could have an extra cookie.
"There wasn't anyone around, and all of the neighbours said she wasn't theirs", you reasoned, "we're going to get her checked to see if someone is missing her, but if it all checks out, I don't see why she can't join our family", you said as Sebastian nodded in agreement with what you said.
"We'll get her checked out to see if there is a family, like ours, out there missing her, okay? Imagine if it was Angie and we didn't know where she was? You wouldn't let other family keep her, right?", Mick explained to his son, seeing him nod before he jetted off, "okay, but we'll keep her if we can, okay? Pretty please, papa! Look, she loves playing with Angie!", he pointed to the window before he headed upstairs.
"You made them that bossy", he retorted, chuckling as he kissed the side of your head, "your genetics made them that cute and impossible to say no to", you reasoned back, hugging your husband's waist as you looked at the two dogs playing with eachother, "but I stand by Seb's idea, she would be a good addition to the family. As much as it pains me to say it, Angie's getting old and she won't be around for much longer, and the kids would love having a dog", you noted.
"I know", he rubbed your back, "We'll see what the vet says about her microchip and we'll go from there. She looks well treated and fed, she's good around people and kids", he added, "yes, she was a bit dirty when we found her, or she found us, too, but we cleaned it off".
The next morning, you and Mick were able to drop the kids in school and Harriet at his mother's house, explaining the situation and taking the dog to your vet. A quick read of her microchip and a few phonecalls that sounded a little like made up stories, the vet agreed that the right course of action would be to send the golden retriever to the local dog kennel so she could be out up for adoption.
"Can we adopt her?", Mick asked immediately, surprising you a tiny bit, "we have Angie, as you know, and surprisingly they got along very well, and the kids like her too", he reasoned, squeezing your hand and looking at the vet, "well, it seems you have a new family, Hazel", she smiled.
"Thank you, handsome", you told your husband while the veterinary team checked how her vaccinations and deworming routines were so they could make sure she was in presteen health, "Sebastian is going to be pretty happy, I guess", he blushed, "we have a new member in the family, Hazel Schumacher", you said as you smiled at the new furry friend.
(Thank you for submitting an ask 🤍)

I’m sorry I know you have an interest in tarot yourself but I’ve realized the tarot readers may be where all the nasty rumors are starting. There’s also one astrologer blog here saying there’s an upcoming storm for the Wales fandom, and the way this blog says it, it’s like something really ominous. I tend to be a pessimistic person who always thinks things are going to go badly, which is why I find it hard to brush it off when some random person on the internet is saying stuff like that as much as I just want to ignore it or brush it off as nonsense. I have to say I am not very good with differentiating between anxiety and intuition. I tend to be a bit paranoid. Idk if this is just paranoia, but I am scared for the coming days because of this particular blog’s warnings.
So this is an interesting observation and reminds me of a discussion we had at our Church of Wiccan Culture last week about living a spiritual life in the mundane world and one in which there are lots of muggles, and one of the most common tools we discussed was employing discernment. So this answer is not about tarot, it is about living in the divine light and how to do that! But this post also led me rather nicely into a Saturday Morning Tarot by Lady Kinrannoch. (skip to the end if you don't want to read the preamble)
As I foresaw and said to my then husband back in 2007 that it seemed to me that social media had the potential to become evil, in fact I asked him whether social media was possibly an aspect of Satan. This is long before I turned from institutional religion to embrace the Old Ways and Old Gods. Satan is a construct of organised religion, it is meant to keep you in line through fear and guilt. My journey to enlightenment started then as I began to embrace the aspects of me that always meant I felt like I did not fit in, and did not get answers in the bible or from religion. I started reading the Gnostic texts, explored Kabbalah, esoterism, hermeticism etc. and more and more I was drawn to Paganism or what we call The Wiccan Way. (please note that Paganism is an umbrella term and that not all Pagans are Wiccans, there are many denominations of earth-based religions that identify as Pagans)
Now Pagan's are naturally drawn to nature and all that was created by the Divine Mother. Not man-made interventions. We believe that Mother Nature/Earth (Gaia) has provided everything we need to survive and that with the assistance of the Old Gods, we can awaken the Divine inside us and manifest love and light. It is why we are often referred to as light workers. We do not believe in Satan, but we do believe in "good and evil", in the aspects of light and dark (in Eastern religion Ying/Yang). No one is all light, everyone has some dark or shadow aspect. The Old Gods across multiple pantheons have light and dark aspects and represent the various Archetypes in the same way that the Tarot Major Arcana represent the 22 main Archetypes. So the discussion was about how to identify when you move off the path of the light and begin to become overcome by the darkness. When people are overcome by the darkness, they tend to become toxic, cultist and abusive; or depressed, anxious and stuck in victim energy, sort of fatalistic, giving up and giving in to Fate. There are many dark cults that frequently get incorrectly associated with Paganism and it is important to use discernment to avoid dark cults. True Paganism is about celebrating nature and following the light, which is why we have many fire festivals among the Sabbats in the Wheel of the Year.
Now I think we see this dark aspect of social media manifesting more and more where various groups of people are pushing their various agenda's. Back in the days with no social media platforms, there is no way you would have managed to get 70 to 80% of a population vaccinated with a trial vaccines with numerous early-on discovered side effects. I am not a denialist, I know there was risk with Covid which it now seems was indeed bio-engineered as part of a global plan to seize totalitarian control. I decided early on that I would not comply, I searched the Old Ways and naturopathy for solutions. I started a regime of supplements that made sense to me. and was also recommended by the FLCCC in the US by Dr Kory and Dr Malik. I have never had Covid despite meeting up with people with Covid to give them IvermectIn (ivm) for themselves or sick relatives. I have access to IVM because I have a breeding and show kennel and so I could order it via veterinary dispensers. Through the pandemic, my staff and I took it every week. None of us got sick. We stopped taking it weekly when Omicron started (Mother Nature, Gaia's intervention). Now we use it whenever one of us is coming down with something. Just this week I felt I was coming down with the flu that is doing the rounds, I took one dose and the next day I was 100% fine again. I take my supplements every day and spend time in the Sun, at least 15 minutes with no sunscreen and visualise filling my body with healing vitamin D.
As you can imagine, I was called a conspiracy theorist. But I like asking the big What if questions. And I use discernment, scepticism and intuition in equal measure daily. I believe that despite none of my staff or I taking the vaccine, we never got sick. I see vaccinated colleagues every day, with all sorts of maladies, ranging from messed up menstrual cycles, all the way through to late term still birth, high blood pressure, blood clots, high blood pressure, septicaemia, heart attacks, auto immune diseases and turbo cancers. I have lost many dear friends over the last four years, all of them vaccinated and it absolutely breaks my heart.
The point to this long preamble ramble is presenting an example in how discernment, scepticism and intuition can play a role in your life if you tune into it and employ it. If you are feeling anxious and depressed by all that you are consuming on social media, perhaps it is time to question yourself about who you are following, what are you consuming, why you are giving your divine manifestation over to the control of others. For we as Pagans believe that the Divine is not out there in nebulous outer space, but that we are part of the Divine and the Divine lives in each one of us. We just need to awaken the Divine inside and listen in the stillness to that spark and that voice.
Anon, I suggest that your intuition is telling to you not to trust what you are consuming, use discernment, scepticism and intuition to decide who to unfollow and what to allow into your divine consciousness. Follow only those that are clearly on a path of spiritual enlightenment with no specific personal and/or dark agenda. Be sceptical. If you feel like something is rubbish, discard it. Don't allow unnecessary darkness into your soul. It is a choice to stand in the light and defeat darkness.
Reading - For Anon and for the Wales Family - Intuition, Commanding all Resources, Healing and Hope
For your benefit, I have done a short tarot spread for you. Just three cards for you to contemplate.
This is what I got:
Situation: The High Priestess, this is confirmation to me that you need to start trusting your intuition. This is also a card typically representing secrets. Not many tarot readers explore that meaning nearly deeply enough. This card's message is Explore your Spiritual Side.
Tarot is a pagan divination tool. For me, this card is also a message of guidance to seek out the secrets of the universe in the quest To Know, which is the first step in the Witches Pyramid. (To Know, To Dare, To Will, To be Silent and To Go). The pentacle is one of the suits in Tarot for a reason. It's five points also represents the four elements associated with tarot, Earth, Air, Fire and Water, with the pinnacle of the pentacle representing Spirit/Divine. I will put a link to an article at the end for those that want to read more.
Tumblr media
What happens next: The Emperor, this is commanding and utilising all your talents and resources to bring order from chaos. It is telling me that you have tools to take command of your life and employ discernment. This links beautiful to To Will (manifest through commitment) and To Dare (to develop skills, to make courageous choices). This card's message is Take Control You Are Protected.
The Outcome: The Star, which in RW its core meaning is healing and hope. It is also for me about achieving balance in your life, turning to nature and the elements. Listening to the Divine and links quite beautifully to To be Silent (Introspection), for in the stillness of meditation you find answers. And also links to To Go (wisdom/higher self), to go within in search of the light and the dark, which increases your Knowing, and so repeatedly following this cycle increases intuition, healing and hope as well as growing your inner peace. You cannot know the Divine, until you Know Thyself. This card's message is Be Inspired Dreams Come True.
Underlying energy: Four of Swords, retreat and rest, take yourself away from social media for a while, avoid negativity, focus on goodness and follow the light until you feel better and stronger.
Other observations:
Three major arcana cards, this is absolutely beautiful energy and I don't think it is meant only for you. Three major arcana cards, means this is for everyone who is feeling just like you, anxious, depressed and paranoid.
Royal Reading - The Wales's
High Priestess: There is a reason there is a certain amount of secrecy currently, it doesn't mean we should feed into the dark speculation, but should rather trust our intuition and the divine mother who Knows All. We are being told that there are some people who cannot be trusted right now to know everything. I think this is Catherine, giving us a message. She is in a higher energy right now and following her intuition. Only she is in the Know, as it should be. This is the also the all knowing, wise mother archetype.
Emperor: William is in Emperor energy, he is giving us a message that he is very much in charge right now. So I feel this is him saying to us all "don't worry". Remember also this is King of Kings energy (The Emperor is higher than the four court Kings), and let us remember that William is the Summer Solstice King, brought to us to show us the light, and give us hope.
Star: There is a lot of hope for the future and healing for the family and I believe it will result in good news. I genuinely feel that we have nothing to fear. There is no ominous energy here. As I said it all beautiful and powerful energy.
Middle of the Deck: The Queen of Wands RX - that is who we should watch out for. The dark agenda. This truly is a fight between darkness and light. Wands is also media and PR. Discern the agenda around every piece of speculation in the media for it is all only speculation. This tells me the Wales's know more than we do about the agendas and it is a cautionary message from them, to do exactly what my preamble was about, practice discernment.
Four of Swords: Retreating to find strength and healing. We do not know all of what they are battling, just what we see in the dark media agenda and the attacks from the unenlightened. Remember that light always triumphs over darkness. This tells me that the Wales's withdrawal is for a very strategic reason. The Art of War reminds us that we "should not interrupt our enemies when they are making mistakes". Stand back and allow them to defeat themselves. Also find the light and strengthen yourself in order to overcome the darkness. So the Stand Back strategy as I am calling it is very deliberate.

The blood thing is confusing, so they aren't related cause blood transfusions don't make the receptor and donor related but it's presented on the play as a bloodline/family tree thing? And do you still think el and Henry can be related outside of the blood transfusions?
It's presented very ambiguously!
Brenner says that Henry's as much a father to the children as he is in relation to the blood transfusions. I know in earlier showings they specified that Henry met the woman who was pregnant with 002, and that the mothers had been receiving transfusions. However, in the showings I saw, Brenner only says that 10 children had survived the transfusions. He never mentions mothers (the mentions of pregnant women only show up in one newspaper scrolling past at like. light-speed).
Which...You truly are preaching to the science choir here, Nonnie (and I say that lovingly). The blood thing has been fucking with me for a hot minute because, well...it straight up doesn't work like that, unless you start majorly stretching biology.
Brenner says Henry has a totally unique blood type, the same blood type Brenner Sr. had after his time in Dimension X in 1943. It caused Brenner Sr. to reject all blood types for transfusions. Which...this could make Henry a universal donor, I won't write that off entirely, but it's unlikely, imo, given that Brenner mentions survival rate. This means some of the babies rejected the blood transfusions and died (whether they received it via their mother or otherwise).
So it becomes more likely that they'd be looking for kids who have a predisposition to surviving the transfusions of the unique blood.
And that, my dearest Nonnie, is genetic.
So while there may be some wild-caught kids like Kali, it's likely there are also direct descendants.
On that note:
I feel like there's definitely still some confusion about the purpose of the transfusions, specifically in the way of correlation vs causation irt powers...so I thought I'd toss my 2¢ in.
Based on TFS canon so far, Brenner is intent on exploring Dimension X to further his father's work. But in order to do that, he needs subjects that can survive it. Imo, he's looking for what made Henry able to survive whatever happened to him. From what I've gathered, the transfusions seem to be less about giving children psionic powers and more about either collecting children who are predisposed to survival in Dimension X (akin to antibiotic resistance in microbes), or predisposing them to it (like a particularly harsh vaccine that only a select few survive, which is still a genetic/selective trait...just with an extra step: do they survive the vaccination?).
The fact that these children survived the blood transfusions and have psionic powers, many of which are shared abilities, makes me think there's some specific trait in these children's biological makeup that makes them predisposed to both characteristics. The children that survived the blood also have powers, in what seems to be all cases. Children who present these powers are more likely to tolerate transfusions, and vice versa. Correlation, not causation.
Thus, I firmly don't believe the blood transfusions gave the children abilities. I think it acts as a screening process, and the psionic abilities are a correlative marker of that ability to survive Henry's blood.
We do the same thing in microbiology all the time. Selective media. Grow the culture on a medium that's deadly to anything that doesn't have the desired trait, and whatever grows is the desired microbe (see: mannitol salt agar for pathogenic staphylococci). The medium didn't cause the microbe to change in order to survive, the microbe was just predisposed to surviving exposure to the selective agent. Correlation, not causation.
tl;dr: I think the transfusions are a selection technique, a screening process, to ensure Brenner gets the most important trait: Survival in Dimension X.
The children are all genetically similar in that trait, which leads to "you're a father to them irt your blood". It's a shared genetic trait between Henry and the children, whether it came from him via sex cells or if it evolved wild-caught. They all have his blood...blood like his. And what's the most efficient way to select for a genetic trait? A breeding program. So yes, I do still think some version of Henry and El are related.
(This isn't even getting into the music choices, with Henry singing TYBTM to baby El, which is the same song his blood-parent mother sang to him as a child, or the casting choices irt: Jamie and Millie. There's the blood stuff, and then there's the Everything Else about Henry and El.)

Road To The Kingdom - Prelude and Contagion Comics
This post will focus on two short comics that were published around the first reboot film, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.
The first is a prelude comic with a story that the writers (Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver) and director (Rupert Wyatt) always had in their minds for the film but had to be cut for time (they mention this in the DVD commentary and in interviews). Knowing how passionate they were about this piece of backstory for Caesar's origin, I'm very glad it was given life in this comic. It expands on the capture of Caesar's mother and her time in the GEN-SYS labs, scenes that are featured briefly in the opening of the film.
Tumblr media
Director Wyatt and the writers have all said they thought it was important to show this backstory of Caesar's parents to demonstrate that, even prior to the drug that enhanced him as an unborn baby, his parents were above average apes. The comic shows a group of poachers following a troop of chimps, intent on capturing them to sell to laboratories for testing. Alpha, Caesar's father, is more intelligent than a regular chimpanzee, demonstrated in how he outsmarts the humans to keep his apes safe. He even lures them into a trap in order to kill several of them.
Likewise Caesar's mother, Bright Eyes... who is named Bright Eyes in the comic for her rare blue eyes which doesn't make sense since she was named that in the lab for the changed eyes Will's drug gives her and also she doesn't even have blue eyes in the opening scene of the movie but that's just bad continuity, I guess... Anyway, Bright Eyes is shown to be exceedingly compassionate to her troop, ensuring no one gets left behind as they flee the poachers and fiercely defending Alpha. Though it is very brief, it is nice to see the united front of Alpha and Bright Eyes that make up Caesar. Human drugs may have given him true intelligence, but Caesar's determination, loyalty, and compassion all came from his parents.
Tumblr media
The rest of the comic arc shows Bright Eyes' time in the lab prior to giving birth. We see her intelligence grow to the point that she is able to escape from the lab on her own and return when she realizes she's far from her jungle home. There's a story of another lab ape named Burke who gets smart but decides to hide it, so he's retired to a sanctuary as a failed experiment and starts to plan his own escape. It's interesting to see the progression of the drug and its effect on the apes but the best part is getting to know Bright Eyes a bit better than her brief time in the film.
Tumblr media
Shifting to Contagion, it is even shorter than the prelude comic as it was a one-shot set between Rise and Dawn. The focus of the comic is Ellie, the human in Dawn who is the love interest of Malcolm and the nurse who heals Cornelia. Her backstory is briefly mentioned in the movie but it is fleshed out here. We're shown the death of her daughter, Sarah, during the Simian Flu outbreak and her time with the CDC trying to find a vaccine. She ends up escaping the destruction of her lab with the help of a test chimp and the two go their separate ways (which makes me think an interesting story in this universe would be a human and an intelligent ape who actually successfully survive together but I guess that's what fanfics are for). Though very fast paced, that is the nature of a short one-shot comic. It does probably set the feeling of losing your daughter as the world falls apart around you, all happening in a very quick blur. Her time spent with the test apes and her rescue by the chimp Betty show her gentle nature that will have her seeking peace with Caesar's apes in the coming film.
Though these comics are short compared to the longer arcs that will be featured later, I like these stories for their background on two female characters, Bright Eyes and Ellie. While the original films had Zira as a main lead character, the female characters in the reboot series definitely suffer from being primarily love interests to the lead characters and not having much to do in the films. So it is nice to let Ellie and Bright Eyes have comic book expansions of their characters. Both of these stories have been hard to find in the past, as the prelude was online promotion for Rise that seems to be gone from the Net and Contagion was a San Diego Comic Con 2014 exclusive. However, they can now be found in the Planet of the Apes comic omnibus entitled After The Fall.

“Mother?” Charlotte asked. “Where are we going?”
“We are going to a very fun place.” Riya said as they walked towards the gardens. “Remember how I said Uncle Shuu and I were thinking of how boring it must be for you two to be sitting around all day?”
“We were not bored, Mother.” Detlind said. “We are very happy reading the books you gave us or talking to Auntie Maria about fashion.”
“Yes but staying inside isn’t good for a growing child like you two, you need exercise and stuff.” She couldn’t remember all the points for why playing outside was very important for children, she just knew it was very important for children. Riya tugged her cloak tiger and gimanced, maybe it was a bad idea to be doing this in winter but YOLO right? Besides, it wasn’t even snowing, the children would be fine.
Probably.
Oh well, their immunity needed to be built up anyways, not like vaccines exist here.
They walked past the rose garden and past the large lake until the came to a small clearing where a children’s playground had been recently built, it had all the usual things a child enjoyed like like swings and slides and monkey bars and other weird additions like a netted bridge (Shuu’s idea) made of rope and a ‘flying fox’ which looked a bit stupid and didn’t look like something a five year old would enjoy but Shuu heard from Harry it was one of his favourites when he was small so Shuu decided to add it.
“Wow~” Charlotte said looking at the multi-coloured playground (it honestly looked like that weird elephant from inside-out vomited all over everything).
“Oh my!” Detlinde said. “Oh lovely, what is it?”
Riya was a bit confused. “What do you mean ‘what is it?’ It’s a playground!”
Detlinde seemed to sink back into herself after Riya’s little outburst, fuck. Ok she needed to fix this. “Hey, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to yell at you…”
“...Ok…” Detlinde said. Riya felt so bad for what she’d done, she felt heartbroken .
“What Detlinde means to say is.” Charlotte said. “Is how do we ‘play’ with these equipment?”
Riya took one last look at Detlinde and tried to answer Charlotte’s question, “Well why don’t I show you?” She first took them to the swings first, “This are the swings, I love them because when I’m on them I feel like I’m flying.” Charlotte’s and Detlind’s attendants helped them get onto the swings and Riya ordered them to push gently (to not scare them).
“Wow-”
“Ahh~!”
“Fun isn’t it?” Riya asked as the attendants started to push the swings harder and harder.
“Yes!” Charlotte said. “Thank you, Mother~”
“Thank you Mother~!” Detlinde said, her face happy, like she wasn’t scared of Riya a few minutes ago.
That reminded her… “Didn’t you two have anything like this back in your duchies?”
“No~!” Charlotte said.
“I heard~! There is one~ In the Commoner~ Side of the city~!” Detlinde said mid-swings. “At least~ That’s what~ Wolfram~ Told me~.”
“Your big brother?~” Charlotte questioned.
“Yes~!” Detlinde said, “When Mother~ Was too busy~ With Alstede~ He would sneak away~ To see the~ City~! And saw~ Commoner children~ Playing on~ Swings~! But never went close~ Incase~ Someone noticed~ And recognised~ Him~!”
That was… Quite heartbreaking to Riya, a child seeing other children playing, but couldn’t join in.
“My Lady.” Sophia said. “You are going to be late for your evening tea with Lord Debajoti.”
Oh right! They had adda today didn’t they?! “Make sure the children don’t get hurt and get home safely after playing.” Riya ordered Charlotte’s and Detlinde’s attendants.
“Ofcourse, Lady Projookta.” Roseina, Detlinde’s attendant said.
“I shall do as you say, Lady Projookta.” Vanessa, Charlotte’s attendant said.
Riya nodded. “Let’s go, Sophia.”
They walked all the way to the castle, to Deb’s room, they were just at his door when they noticed Shuu coming out of Deb’s room. “Hello Riya.” Shuu said. “Haven’t seen you in a while.”
“Shuu~!” Riya smiled. “It’s been a busy few days you know? Showed the children the playground and they seem to love it a lot.”
“I’m glad.” Shuu said. “What are you doing here?”
“Oh you know.” Riya said, “Here for our bi-weekly adda, what about you?”
“Came for work related stuff.” Shuu replied. “I should be off, more work to do, nice seeing you, bye.”
“Bye.” Riya said as she walked past him, Sophia opened the door for her, “Deb?” Riya asked, “ Kee Cholche ? (How’s it going?)” She asked as she sat down on the sofa.
“ Cholche. (It’s going.)” Deb said, “ Khoob bhalo cholche, Shuu eshecheelo ei ektoo age or budget barabe (It’s going great, Shuu just came in a few seconds ago to see if he could increase his budget.)”
Looked like RIya wasn’t the only one. “I see… Ar keo eshecheelo? (Did anyone else come?)”
“ Sobai mota moti. (Everyone almost.)” Deb said with a sigh. “Jayden, Melissa, Valerie, Sally, Harry, even Max came!”
“ Dosh dite parish na oderke. (You can’t blame them.)” Riya said as Deb’s attendants brought in tea. “ Ora shoodu funds secure korche, jane na toi teektak funds deebee ki na (They’re just trying to secure their funds, they don’t know you well enough to know if you’ll give them the money they need or not or might have to negotiate if there isn’t enough money to go around.)”
“True.” Deb said. “Money is such a problematic factor isn’t it? Doesn’t seem to be enough of it most of the time.”
“But can’t make more either or raise the prices of everything and you’re back to square one.” Riya nodded.

Okay, okay. So someone posted the scene from Episode 11 of Buddy Daddies, when Kazuki goes to the park by himself out of habit, and then you see the mothers talking to themselves about how they find Kazuki suspicious.
The title of the post “This is why being a Adult Male sucks.” Plenty of the comments are what you would expect them to be. One dude blaming feminists and feminism, etc. There is a lot of good, interesting, and overall important discussions, especially from some fathers who have been called predators for bringing their kids to the park. I wrote a post too that is being generally well received, etc. etc.
It’s getting upvoted a lot too, which is great. But, there was one comment that made me just laugh. I’m sorry, but...
Tumblr media
Text: This [the situation shown in the BD clip] is just a recent American phenomenon because of news and social media in the U.S., so I’m surprised this appeared in an anime unless it was pandering to American audiences.
Like...??? What? I’m sorry? You think women worrying about childless men sitting at park benches in a children’s park is an “American phenomenon” and not a general worry that mother’s might have all around the world? Especially in Japan, where there are train compartments made specifically for women to ride during rush hour because men groping women there is such a huge issue.
It’s Reddit, specifically r/anime, so there was bound to be one dude that’s like, “any and all social issues are American only, Japan is apolitical and doesn’t care about stuff like this,” etc. etc.
There is more I could say for sure too, but I have to go and get ready to get a vaccine soon (I need one for Whooping Cough before I start my new job). Anyway, feel free to add to this!

Aug 15th - Dracula 2023
Jonathan Harker's Diary
After we saw that bat in the window the night after our wedding, I've been feeling better. Unsurprising that he would come after me again - draw out whatever joy he gets in my torment. Mina and I have done what we can to try and protect more of the house, but it's hard to work around Lucy's mother. She's quite religious, and sees things like crucifixes as idolatrous, and worse (to her), Catholic. Working with the limited knowledge we have is making protecting ourselves difficult, and all of us know that he's here somewhere.
Lucy's mother doesn't, but between clearly having some intense levels of anxiety and a heart condition, it could genuinely be as dangerous to her health to tell her as not. Considering she believes that sleepwalkers throw themselves off cliffs and was nervous about Lucy getting vaccinated during COVID, we decided probably less is better in her particular case.
We've all (that is, Lucy, Mina, and I) been talking with Quincey and Jack about the situation. Dr. Seward in particular didn't quite believe us at first. We showed him my journal, and while he was still disbelieving afterward, it wasn't me he disbelieved so much as whether the experiences that he believes that I have were supernatural in origin. Admittedly, I can think of ways it could be done, but not a lot without electricity. He did agree with that.
Eventually, he said that he knew someone who could help, a multi-disciplinary scientist of his acquaintance by the name of Van Helsing. Dr. Stankiewicz will be arriving soon, as well. She couldn't make it to the wedding due to work, but the hospital has virtually forced her to take a vacation, so she's taking the offer up to visit, at least.
Between a man who apparently has published a paper on just about every subject you can think of and a medical doctor from the Count's region of origin, perhaps we'll have some concrete steps to take soon.
In the mean time, I have been spending a great deal of time on the internet and in Whitby's library. The town isn't huge, and the library matches its scale, but it has some resources, and that's more than we have on hand.

Mina Harker's Diary
I'm writing quite late tonight - I think it must be the wee hours of the morning, though I don't really want to check my phone at the moment to see just how late it is.
I am growing worried for Lucy again. She's been sleepwalking quite a bit lately, wandering around her room in just her nightclothes, trying the door and window over and over again. I've been listening to her each night lately. She is quite energetic during the day, which feels quite surprising given her level of activity at night, but I wonder if part of it is having an interesting project to work on to distract herself from Arthur's absence. She's been quite thoroughly throwing herself into our situation.
However, I think we both must have fallen asleep last night, because Lucy managed to get herself out of the room tonight. I woke with a start after I realized I had fallen asleep and got up as soon as I realized I wasn't hearing anything from the next room.
I unlocked the door only to find the window open. The window, of all places!
I ran out of the house... admittedly, completely forgetting to wake Jonathan in my panic. I only remembered how important it was for all of us not to be alone after it was all over.
I hurried out into the streets and across the bridge over the River Esk, looking around in a panic in the form of Lucy. It made it more difficult, not knowing what she might have dressed herself in... although it turned out, not as difficult as I thought. She hadn't changed, as it turned out. I saw a form in the moonlight lying prone on our seat up in the graveyard. Someone was nearby, maybe close to her. It was hard to tell from so far away, but I ran over to her as fast as my legs would carry me in my pajamas, a pair of sneakers, and a housecoat.
The figure left before I arrived - I wonder if they must have seen me tearing toward them at full speed. The figure was indeed Lucy, thankfully.
I shook her awake as gently as I could and still get her there. She was still sleepy and disoriented. I gave her the housecoat. Despite it being summer, the late nights are still chilly enough for me to worry for her, especially with bare feet, too.
I got her back into bed and closed up the window, but there was only a latch rather than a proper lock. I shall have to speak with Mrs. Westenra about getting one installed. She will likely be amenable, given her worries about sleepwalkers and roofs and cliffs and whatnot.
I am honestly not sure how Lucy managed to get down from the window, but her limbs are uninjured, at least.
It's time for me to get some sleep. The danger has already taken place, and Lucy always sleeps soundly after one sleepwalking incident.
(A/N: I promised and I did it! Go me! I'm so tired. Time for me to go to sleep. Fortunately, I only talk in my sleep. XD)

Serious post, please respond appropriately and respectfully in comments, tags, and reblogs.
The treatment of autistic people on the internet and autism in general is something that has been bugging me for months, and I am entirely disgusted with how people treat them.
Important things to know
Autism is something you are born with, and is not something that develops. It is not a disease, a virus, or anything contagious. It cannot be corrected, as there is nothing to correct. The development happens in the womb, and it is not the parent’s fault that their child is autistic. Main point, it CANNOT. CAN. NOT. be caused by vaccines.
Autism is a spectrum. Autistic people are like snowflakes, as no two are alike. Each autistic person is unique in their own way.
Autistic people can experience sensory overloads, where they are so overwhelmed that they shut down. How they shut down varies. This can occur in going nonverbal, having a meltdown, and much more.
Autistic people are not always disabled or unable to speak. Remember, autism is a spectrum. The people with the abilities to talk and speak are referred to as a high-functioning Autistic. The people who have difficulties with the previously mentioned things are not high functioning, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t autistic.
Now. Let’s talk about why this post exists.
It has recently come to my attention that a tiktok account is posting their daughter’s breakdowns to the platform. You heard me correctly, they are putting their child’s sensory overloads and vulnerable moments ONLINE. and they are essentially painting their child as a bad kid, when in reality they’re just autistic.
One such TikTok occurs on a Christmas, from the looks of it. The captions claim the child is upset because they didn’t get what they wanted for Christmas. While yes, that can warrant a meltdown, it’s a difference from a breakdown. Thw mother is sitting and recording this while the father antagonizes the child, taunting them. The child then goes to start hitting the adult, which causes them to THROW the child into the couch, from where the child begins to violently hurt themselves.
This is not the effect of an unruly child. This is the effect of a child being overwhelmed to the point of not understanding what’s happening anymore and is trying to take out their emotions in any way possible. And the reactions of the parents, recording a child SELF HARMING HERSELF and did NOTHING. I am genuinely livid, and I have the overwhelming urge to find that child’s parents and literally beat sense into them. (I will not act upon this urge, however.)
Upon further investigation of the video, every single adult present is recording this child having an overstimulated breakdown, and no one is doing anything to help. This isn’t dealing with an unruly child, this is borderline ABUSE.
These videos aren’t spreading awareness, they are demonizing their child and their mental difference all for the purpose of clout.
The next topic is the use of autism as an insult and a slur.
People have begun use the phrase “autistic” to essentially the same effect as the word “retarded.” They believe they can use a word to entirely make an opponent’s argument crumble because “they don’t know what they’re saying, they’re stupid.”
It pisses me off that people think this is okay. But the minute I make fun of someone’s depression to the same effect achieved with the “autistic” argument, I’m suddenly the bad guy. Yes, making fun of their depression is not nice, but the fact that making fun of someone’s autism is perfectly fine makes me want to scream.
Finally, the representation of autism in media and online.
Autism is basically the laughingstock of mental differences. People use it as an excuse to not get vaccinated. (Even I, with a severe fear of needles to the point of growing faint thinking about them, has to get vaccinated. We are attempting to find a way to get me vaccinated anyway) They use it to make others irrelevant, and they use it to make the younger generations look stupid, claiming it didn’t exist until we made it up.
Autism has continued to get a bad rep, and I needed to get all of this information into the world. The more people know about this mental difference, the better we can help he children with autism.
Thank you for reading.

Act 4 : Our Destiny
The colors of the autumn leaves began to unfold gradually, transitioning from yellow to orange, until every tree was dyed vibrant red. The air turned cold, causing you to tighten your jacket.  How long has it been since then? Even you were unsure. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, you haven't really been keeping track of time. But what you knew was that it had been longer than you had anticipated. at least almost half a year. Ever since you, Joel, and Ellie set out on this journey together.
Numerous events unfolded along the way, putting all of you in almost life-threatening situations several times. It wasn't just the infected that posed a threat, but also humans who sought to harm and kill for their own survival. like a cannibalistic group that viewed strangers as nothing more than food. Joel suffered injuries from these encounters, and you and Ellie were on the verge of losing hope. But just in time, help arrived unexpectedly. It came in the form of someone familiar, Tommy Miller, who coincidentally crossed paths with you.
Fate can be quite ironic. You thought so when Tommy told you that it wasn't just you who had a history with Joel. Tommy himself had a bitter fallout with Joel that severed their relationship for a decade. When they went their separate ways, he embarked on a solitary journey and happened to find love with Maria, the leader of the Jackson community. He made the firm decision to settle down here. He never thought he would see Joel's face again, let alone yours. As for Tommy, seeing you and Joel together again felt like seeing a ghost in broad daylight, not to mention the presence of the unfamiliar young girl who accompanied you. It felt surreal to him.
"Thinking back,I tried so hard to make you and Joel fall in love again. But it just didn't work out," Tommie reminisced with a hint of laughter in his eyes. Aside from the deepening lines, the increasing wrinkles, and the graying hair, Tommie seemed unchanged, especially with the smile on his face. "Who would have thought that I would eventually succeed? Even if it took a little longer," he continued.
"Before you start overthinking, this has nothing to do with you. It's all about the mission," you replied.
Tommy shrugged and turned to the flickering flame of the cigarette held between his fingers. The white smoke spread widely as he exhaled. He caught a glimpse of you through the haze, his face displaying a serious expression that was different from just a moment ago. "So, tell me, what is this important mission really about?" he asked earnestly.
You responded to his question with silence, just as you did with Joel when he first asked you about this.
Although Tommy was not a stranger to you, you still didn't trust him enough to reveal the truth about Ellie being immune to the infection. It was too risky. If this information leaked prematurely, it could lead to worldwide chaos or, worse, put Ellie in great danger. She would become a valuable commodity that everyone would want to possess, just to control the future of the cure.
Keeping these matters a secret for as long as possible is the safest option for you and Ellie.
Before you were willing to share the entirety of the mission with Joel, it took a considerable amount of time for you to fully trust him enough to entrust him with the remaining tasks. This was in case things took a turn for the worse and you couldn't make it to the final destination. You had to persuade Joel for a long time because he saw your mission as just another fleeting desire that would ultimately end in failure, just like in the past. But nonetheless, Joel reluctantly nodded and accepted your plea. He spent hours during the journey with Ellie, teaching her about firearm usage and other survival skills that she should know to protect herself from potential dangers. It proved to be highly beneficial in the future when you had to face hunters and cannibals.
The events that unfolded were harrowing for everyone, especially for Ellie, as she had taken someone's life for the first time. Of course, she was just a young girl, and death was not something easily accepted or comprehended in her first experience. It deeply affected her psyche, more than she let on. Ellie became withdrawn, quiet, and distant. She displayed no intention of disturbing or engaging in conversation, as she had done before. It was as if the innocence in her had been stripped away, along with the person she had killed.
Joel's hard exterior began to soften, and he constantly comforted Ellie in his own way. He spoke to her as much as he could and stayed with her whenever she needed him. Even Tommy was surprised by this and repeatedly questioned you about whether anything had affected Joel's mental state from the recent battles. But for you, who had spent enough time with them, it was not surprising to notice the positive changes in Joel. You saw his tender side towards Ellie as well as the bond that had formed between them.
Once, pain used to be the thing that bound you and Joel together, and now it had become something that bonded him and Ellie as well, without them even realizing it.
Your silence made Tommy sigh. He did not expect anything more from you, knowing that you wouldn't easily open up. He put the cigarette down on the white porch railing and glanced outside. The afternoon air was pleasant. Women were busy watering plants, while children helped sweep the fallen leaves diligently. As for the men, they were busy handling heavy loads and organizing supplies for future distribution. These ordinary ways of life were once easily visible to everyone over two decades ago, but not now, in a world on the brink of collapse and with humanity facing the risk of extinction.
That made you realize the importance of this mission and understand why people in Fireflies were willing to sacrifice their own lives. They were willing to do anything they could to achieve simple happiness, just like what you see now, which has become something that everyone can truly experience.
Not long after, you saw Joel and Ellie walking towards you. Joel's physical condition had improved significantly, but he still limped slightly as he walked. Ellie walked beside him, moving slowly, and wore an exasperated expression directed at Joel while muttering something. But when she saw you, she raised her hand and waved with a wide smile, looking so vibrant that she almost resembled the old Ellie. You smiled and waved back, while Tommy, who was standing next to you, kept his eyes on you the whole time.
"I don't know what you two are up to—a family role-play?" Tommy spoke without looking directly at you, but you could clearly sense his feelings through his voice and the glances he threw at Joel. "But I haven't seen Joel this happy since then."
You knew exactly what Tommy meant.
since the day Sarah left forever.
Joel had changed since that day, changed enough to make his younger brother despise him to the point of insupportable, and they had to separate and go their separate ways. But in the end, they found each other again and realized how much they truly loved each other. That's Tom's story, which is not much different from yours, after all.
There was a faint smile on Tom's face before it quickly disappeared when he turned back to give you another glance. His large hand reached out and grabbed your arm tightly. His face looked genuinely serious.
"I just want him to be happy. I hope you won't ruin it."
This is something you want even more than Tom does—to make Joel happy again.
But you can't promise that you won't ruin it someday.
You can only hope to prolong this happiness for as long as possible.
________________________________
"Can't sleep, huh?"
Upon hearing Joel's voice, you decided to forget about sleep after struggling to keep your eyes closed for a while. It had been dark in the room for a while, but there was still a faint glow from the bright moonlight outside the window. A gentle breeze swayed the curtains. You turned sideways towards Joel, who was lying next to you, and saw his eyes gazing at you.
"Did I wake you up?"
"No, I couldn't sleep either," he sighed before raising his arm slightly to let you snuggle closer to him. "I was talking to Tom earlier this evening."
You furrowed your brow, unable to help but think about Tom's face and the previous conversation between you and him. "What were you talking about?"
"Tom wants me to take a break from everything I'm doing." Joel lowered his voice, unsure if he should say it, but eventually he spoke up. "He said my body isn't ready for long journeys yet., He's happy to take Ellie and you to our destination."
Your heart throbs with conflicting emotions, one of which is that you don't want to be separated from him even for a moment. You've spent so much time together that you can't imagine a journey without him. And two, you think this could be a good option for Joel and for yourself. Because if you had the choice, you wouldn't want to involve him in this matter.
Deep down, you know in your heart that all of this is not just about wanting to help the world. It's also about your own desire that has brought you and him this far.
"And what do you think?" Your voice remains calm, though trembling, awaiting the answer.
"I haven't given him an answer yet," he says, holding you tighter than before. Joel's arms around your body provide both comfort and reassurance. "I'm not denying that I once thought I didn't want to do it anymore."
"I don't want you to do it either," you finally decide to say. "If you don't want to..."
"It's not like that." Joel interrupts you before you can finish your sentence. "I'm just…thinking. What would it be like if we didn't do it? What would it be like if we stopped right here and chose to stay together?"
You fall silent.  You wish you could tell him how much you desire it to be exactly like that, even more than he does.
However, both Joel and you are well aware that it's an excessive hope. too much for someone who has been shattered and can never return to being whole again.
"I want you. I want Ellie. I want everything we have. I don't want to lose it."
His face is difficult to read in the darkness, but his trembling voice resonates clearly, causing a pang of pain in your heart. You cup his face, drawing it closer, before pressing a gentle and tender kiss on his dry lips. Your lips then trail gently along his cheeks and forehead, as if your touch could soothe his troubled soul even just a little.
Joel kisses you back before gently resting his forehead against yours. Your gaze meets his in a silent harmony amidst the fearful darkness of the moment.
"I'm afraid I'll ruin it." His voice quivers softer than usual, as if he's wrestling with himself.
You've never seen Joel like this—afraid and vulnerable.
"You won't ruin it," you firmly affirm, conveying the confidence you have in him. "I believe in you."
You wrap your arms around his neck and kiss him slowly, savoring every touch and delicately tasting each sensation.  Your eyelids gradually close as Joel lifts himself above your body, his lips pressing fervently along the curve of your neck, reaching your shoulder. while his hands explore beneath your clothes, causing you to shudder with gentle and intentional caresses.
"Are you okay with this?" Joel asks, uncertain and slightly embarrassed, prompting you to reminisce about your first night together, the beginning of your relationship, and all the special moments. It was a magical night for you when you and Joel were younger.
But apart from the passing of time, nothing has changed between you and him.
"I'm okay," and your answer remains the same as it was decades ago.
You remember the warmth of his hands sliding up your hips, just like when you used to dance together in the past. And you remember the gentle touch of his lips that sensually pressed against your bare skin after swiftly removing your clothes. As he runs his tongue along your body, it is still evident that you desire him just as much as he desires you.
His eyes, his breath, his slow movements, the gentle and warm touch, and the way he showers you with love—you want to remember every single detail of it all.
The intense desire and overwhelming joy spread through every nerve cell, causing you to grab onto him, knowing that Joel is the only anchor you have. The calling of each other's names fills the room as you both climax, reaching your final destination together.
Everything comes to an end, leaving only a lingering sense of contentment that reverberates throughout your body. Joel lies back on the bed and pulls you into his arms. You effortlessly snuggle into his arms, resting your head on his broad chest, feeling a complete sense of tranquility.
Fatigue slowly lulls you into drowsiness, but you are confident that you heard Joel say something to you while his lips pressed gentle kisses on your forehead. However, his voice sounded distant and faint, as if it were in a dream, and you have no chance to ask again as you quickly drift into a deep sleep.
________________________________
A few days after that, the thing you feared the most happened.
Ellie disappeared. That's what you heard from Tommy, who had been notified earlier by the scouting unit that a young girl had escaped from the camp along with a horse.
This wasn't the first time Ellie had done something like this. Once, she told you about the time when she was still studying at a military school under FEDRA's curriculum—a place she described as a "miserable hellhole filled with power-hungry maniacs." It was another significant reason that led Ellie to decide to sneak out of school to go on an adventure outside the quarantine zone with Riley. That event ended with both of them being attacked by infected people and Ellie discovering her special immunity
But Jackson's community was not like Ellie's miserable military school. It was filled with peace and tranquility that couldn't be found in any other quarantine camp. And you knew that Ellie wanted to be here. There was no reason for her to choose to run away without telling anyone, or perhaps there was something more that you hadn't paid enough attention to.
Joel was just as puzzled as you about this. He seemed more worried than you. "Damn it, Ellie! What are you thinking?" He muttered loudly after hearing Tommy's words, his voice filled with frustration. But when he turned to face you, you could clearly see the concern in his eyes.
Tommy confirmed with certainty that there were no infected in the surrounding area of the community, so Ellie wouldn't be in danger (you weren't worried because she couldn't be infected). He was confident that Ellie wouldn't have gone far. Moreover, the fact that she didn't cover her tracks while escaping made it easier to trace for someone who was skilled in tracking. The three of you quickly set out on horseback, following the trail. The hoofprints of the horse that had led you to an abandoned house about five kilometers away from Tommy's community
It was still a well-preserved house, a small two-story yellow wooden house that you could imagine belonged to a kind-hearted grandmother who liked to sit on the porch in the evenings. And perhaps some old grandparents and their grandchildren might be living or have become infected inside this house. You quickly dismounted from the horse, keeping your gun close to your pants in case of emergency, and then reached out to touch Joel's arm before he rush into the house
"Give the girls some time to talk, alright, boys?" You said it with a teasing tone, although you knew Joel and Tommy were not in the mood to joke with you. The temperature was over seventy degrees, hot and uncomfortable, making everyone irritable and on edge. "Promise it won't take more than ten minutes, or even faster." You emphasized that when you saw Joel's disapproving gesture.
You made that decision because you knew that Joel and Ellie were similar, except that Joel was more stubborn than Ellie. They had argued and sulked with each other many times, and when both of them were not in a good mood, facing each other now could be worse. It was something you didn't want to happen at all
And another reason was that you believed Ellie trusted you more than anyone else. It was something called a girl's bond, something that men would never understand. You experienced it with Sarah as well. You and your daughter used to have special moments two or three times a week, mostly open conversations, giving advice, and sharing little secrets that only you and Sarah knew. Secrets that you wouldn't tell Joel, and Sarah wouldn't tell her dad. Ellie and you had something similar, and you hoped she would open up to you like Sarah did.
But the situation turned out to be the opposite of what you had thought. Ellie didn't want to open up with you. In fact, she wanted you to be the one to speak to her
"You're going to leave me, aren't you?"
Ellie was hiding in the upstairs bedroom of the house. She was sitting on a small bed covered with a faded pink blanket that might have belonged to a little girl. Her fierce and sorrowful eyes stared at you as you stood by the door. You clenched your jaw and looked at her, confused and puzzled at the same time.
"Why would you think that?"
"I heard Tommy and Joel talking. Are you going to send me away with Tommy, right?"
You took a long, deep breath, feeling a mixture of anxiety and relief at the same time. "Listen, Ellie, Tommy is just concerned, and Joel is still injured. But even if Joel can't go, I'm not planning to leave you with Tommy. We both have to keep moving..."
"There was no 'We' from the beginning!" Ellie cut you off with a mocking tone. "Since you gave me the gun, I knew."
For a moment, you were stunned by her words. sounded like she penetrated deep into your heart, knowing things that you weren't ready to reveal at the moment. "Ellie, I don't understand what you're talking about," you lied. You knew exactly what Ellie meant, but you weren't ready to address it now, no matter how much Ellie wanted you to speak.
You took a step towards her, but Ellie quickly retreated, glaring at you with more anger than before. "Don't pretend to be my mom. You're not my real mom. Not at all," she said bitterly.
If words could hurt, Ellie's words felt like a full-force blow, more painful than any physical punch could ever be.
Ellie was right . She wasn't your daughter, and you treated her like one simply because of your guilt, because you wanted to compensate for the loss of your own daughter.
The shock and pain on your face made Ellie regain her composure. Her posture softened, filled with remorseful feelings as she spoke to you, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."
"It's okay," you lied again, not wanting her to feel any worse than she already did. But this sorrow weighed heavily on you, and you couldn't hide it well. You gritted your teeth, trying to speak normally without bursting into tears. "It's true that you're not my daughter, but that doesn't mean that my concern for you isn't real."
The young girl hesitated for a moment, then lowered her gaze to her own feet. You noticed her reddened nose, almost on the verge of crying. Her posture seemed smaller, and a sense of guilt filled her voice as she spoke to you. "I thought you cared about me because I was the cure for this damn fungus."
"I won't deny that it's one of the reasons, but it's not everything," you said. This time, you moved directly in front of Ellie, and she didn't flinch. You knelt down to be at eye level with her, and gently wiped away a tear from her cheek. "I care about you. And we all care about you. Me, Joel, from everything we've been through together. That's not enough to make you believe me?"
There were minutes of silence. Ellie raised her hand to wipe her tears before sitting still, looking as if she was deep in thought. Her shoulders hunched, and she seemed both calmer and sadder at the same time. "You said you cared about me, but you're going to leave me... just like everyone else in my life," she muttered, as if to herself.
"I never intended to leave you, Ellie."
"No, you're lying." Ellie's voice hardened once again. Her sharp green eyes pierced into yours, as if she were trying to see through all the things you had hidden "I can see it in your eyes that you're lying. You'll leave Joel. You'll leave me. You'll leave us."
You averted your gaze from her. It was painful.
"I'm just scared," Ellie reiterated, her voice trembling. "I'm scared."
"We're all scared, Ellie. Believe me, I have to force myself to sleep every night with the fear of what will happen tomorrow." Your breath was caught with confusion and contemplation. It was easy when fear took hold of your heart, but it was difficult to convey it to someone else. "Afraid of what's yet to come. Afraid of what's uncertain. Afraid of the end of us."
She remained silent, not protesting or resisting. It was a good sign of willingness to listen.
"I won't promise you that we'll be together forever because 'forever' isn't real. You know it, and I know it. Someday, it will happen, and I'm afraid just like you. I just... I just want us to spend as much time together as possible, so that we won't regret missed opportunities and things we've never done."
"Like you and Joel," Ellie muttered softly but loud enough for you to hear.
"Something like that," you smiled faintly. "And Sarah too. My daughter with him. We lost our daughter because she was shot dead."
Ellie's eyes widened with shock, and her face immediately contorted with sadness and pity. "You care about me because I remind you of your daughter, don't you?"
"Yes, but it's also true, just like what you said earlier. I'm not your mother, and you're not my daughter."
"I didn't mean it." Ellie's voice trembled softly. "I'm just angry... I didn't mean it."
"We all do foolish things when we're angry." You placed your hand on hers and gently squeezed it, soothingly. "I've done it many times."
"Are you saying I'm foolish?"
That almost sounded like a sentence Joel used to say to you before, just changing the word "stings" to "foolish." You thought about it, and you couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle. Stings and foolishness—two words that perfectly described Joel and Ellie
Ellie didn't laugh with you. She was serious but also cautious. "So, that's why you're leaving Joel, because of Sarah?"
You hesitated. That wasn't the whole reason, but it was the darkest part of it all.
"And the reason you'll leave me and Joel—what is it exactly?" Ellie continued with her questioning—a line of questioning you didn't want to answer. But you knew she wouldn't stop until you gave her an honest answer. Until you unraveled it for her.
"Love, Ellie. That's a part of love. Knowing when to hold on and when to let go," you paused, surprised at yourself for being able to speak the word "love" so easily. "And no matter what happens, I want you to know how much I love you and Joel."
Ellie lunged forward, almost knocking you off balance as you managed to catch the fourteen-year-old in your arms. You laughed and said, "My back is completely broken." and Ellie let out a half-laugh before wrapping her arms tightly around your neck, clinging to you like a drowning person grasping for a lifeline. Her body trembled with suppressed sobs, and you felt the wetness of her tears against your skin.
"Does Joel know about this?" she asked, her voice breaking the silence that had stretched longer than before. It was a long, quiet moment of contemplation About time, love, and death
"He doesn't know yet, but I'll tell him myself," you replied.
A rhythmic knock on the door interrupted the conversation between the two of you, and you saw Joel standing there, hugging his chest against the door frame. You couldn't read his expression, but you could sense that he wasn't in a good mood. It's possible that more than ten minutes have passed.
He wore a stern expression, and with one hand, he tapped his old wristwatch, the one you and Sarah had helped choose as a birthday gift for him on his thirty-second birthday. He had kept it well. "Time's up. We can go now," he said bluntly.
Ellie quickly slipped her feet out the door to escape Joel, fearing she would have to endure a long scolding from him. But Joel paid no attention to the young girl passing by, only focusing his gaze on you with the same expression as before—a face that made it impossible to predict what he was feeling.
You can't help but feel anxious. Maybe he will hear what you say to Ellie. And if he were to ask you, like Ellie did, you probably couldn't answer him honestly. Even though you've been thinking about telling Joel, it's not the right time yet. It's not the appropriate moment for you and him.
But in the end, Joel didn't ask you a single word about what happened in that house. Throughout the journey back to Jackson’s community, he remained quiet and silent. It was a silence as calm as the sea before the arrival of a big wave. A silence that made you feel uneasy.
Even though he didn't speak, you know he must have heard it.

Crane Family Home Movies:
Molly, tape #3
It’s an old vhs recorded…something. Not quite therapy and not quite an interview. It starts with a deep male voice introducing the subject sitting in a cheap patched up recliner in what looks like the living room of someone's cheap extremely dated apartment “This is Miss Molly Randall, a student here at the university." "Hello!" "Now, now long have you struggled with this lack of identity?” A pregnant pause, one that didn’t need to be taken. The answer was known.
The pretty young blonde with a face for old Hollywood sighed, pursing her pink lips into a pout. “I started thinking about it when I was nine.” She answered in a lilting voice that made the outdated audio crackle, like a little songbird. You’d think it was fake if she didn’t always sound that way. “We had to do a project in school, about our family tree. I went to my dad.” She rolled her big pale blue eyes “Mom is busy, you never go to mommy first and you never go to her if it isn’t important.”
A wave of her hand, as if what she just said wasn’t all that important. A given in any family. “He didn’t have anything and told me to ask my mother. It took me a day to work up the courage and she had this… box. A few documents like vaccine history for schools, deeds, bonds, that sort of thing. Randall, Randall, Derby, Derby is my mother’s maiden name, and as I got deeper I became more fascinated at what lay at the bottom of the box. Who was I at the core? Where did I come from? I dug. I dug and I dug and I dug and I found what my father had lost when he was disowned, but my mother clung to. History, a line. Who was I? I was a Sorensen... I had no idea what that meant."
Molly laughed and held up a very ornately framed piece of paper from Ellis Island, a passenger intake form. " I asked my grandfather, he didn't know. He did give me what his father had given him though and it was papers saying that my great grandfather or maybe my great great grandfather was from a place called Levanger or at least that's where they sailed from. I felt... gratified. Somehow more a human being because I didn't just appear from nothing on day in Derry, Maine. I hold up a piece of paper and scream and scream 'Look! Look! I am something! I am not nothing! I have a name! I have roots!" She scoffed and mumbled "My roots are deep and strong and I wear them like a crown. My blonde hair. My blonde hair is all I have as proof. My blood is the same color as anyone else's, it doesn't tell it's secrets."
She stared off for a second then sighed and dropped the picture frame, not caring if it broke. It didn't. "I still didn't know what the name meant. I couldn't ask anyone. They wouldn't know so I went, aha, I went to the public library and used their dial up internet to google Sorensen Levanger. All I really found out is it's actually spelled with a funny line through the o... I didn't know what that meant. Did it mean I couldn't even say my own last name? I didn't know how." Molly sat down and stared at the floor, lost as ever. "Turns out it's said the same way..." A little laugh then she looked back up "But you know what you get when you google Norway, it doesn't matter what about it you google. It's always the same thing... Gods. Old gods." She leaned forward a little. "That must be terribly annoying. Same with vikings. That can't be all they want to be known for, but algorithms don't care about that, do they?"
She sat back, tilting her head slightly "So I once again dug and dug and dug. Reading everything I could about these gods and their stories and how they affected history. Did I even know anything? Probably not. Liked to think so though. No, who knows how much of it was even accurate. Can't trust anything on the internet... I did learn to read runes, useless as that is. I fell in love though with those gods and the possibilities they held. I devoted myself to them. The only pagan in Derry, Maine. I'm sure they were very entertained by their nine year old ecclesiastic. I dreamed of them."
The young woman shook her head, apparently embarrassed by her former self. "Is this how they answer me?" She asked "Is this how old gods answer crying children? Gently? Do they come to you in dreams with soft voices and kind eyes?" Molly pulled at her hair in an attempt to self soothe "Or is this just the subconscious of a spoiled little girl from Derry soothing her as she cries out to be anything else. Anything, but what her mother is." A deep breath and a whispered "I don't know." then a slow silence that crumbled into broken sobs. "I do not want to be my mother."
Collecting herself with a cough, she continued now trembling "Then a few months later my grandpa asked me when our last name meant and I didn't know. I'd forgotten to look. So I went back to the library with him and googled the last name again. It meant son of Søren... and he asked who the fuck is Søren?" She laughed, from her chest in a way that could only be defined as mirthlessly "We never found out. Nothing went back far enough to find out who Søren was and I... it felt like I lost all that. I was nothing again. I was from nowhere. The gods abandoned me. No more dreams."
She played with that lock of hair until it started to fray. "I'm Molly from nowhere at all, daughter of no one. I'm no one." She stopped emoting. Just going blank in the face, staring off past the camera into nothing. Not even the person she was looking at, who didn’t notice right away asking “But you found out so much… why does knowing who exactly Søren is matter?” When they didn’t get an answer they noticed she wasn’t there in every way, but physical. “Miss? Miss Randall? Molly? Molly!” She doesn’t move even after she’s called several times and the camera cuts.

Everything else aside let's talk about how completely fucked and tone deaf it is for them to over turn the right to an abortion in the middle of a huge formula shortage. Like sure we're going to force you to carry these kids but good fucking luck feeding them. That's not our fucking problem. It makes me so damn sick.
Like number one, no one should be forced to be pregnant.
But also, if you're going ti try and push that rhetoric of oh but the children, then idk approve and fund social services that'll actually make it feasible to raise them. Instead of sentencing women to a life of poverty while the man can just fuck off with no responsibility. It's just so ludicrous and backwards and I don't get how anyone can support that thinking. Or why they feel the need to care about what anyone else does. Like if Susie q gets a damn abortion what effect does it have on your life Karen? Oh that's right, none.
Sorry for venting. I just am do mad right now.
No need to apologize. Anyone who isn't absolutely fucking furious right now isn't paying attention.
First, like... everyone knows that the baby formula crisis is also Trump's fault, right? His Shiny Special Deal in 2018 to replace/override NAFTA had a specific provision that banned the importation of baby formula from abroad, especially from Canada. (Because you know, America First.) So when the plants had to shut down earlier this year due to contamination, that made it literally impossible to supplement with supplies from other countries. Hence, the crisis. And yet, of course, nobody in the media mentioned this in their coverage of the situation, because that, like everything else in existence, was obviously Biden's Fault!!!
Next, as other people (and myself) have pointed out, the total lack of social services, funding, paid parental leave, affordable childcare, or literally anything else that would make raising a baby easier, is also by design. First, the Republicans don't give a shit about the kid after it's born; they only pretend to care about it beforehand for fake moral cred. Once it's born, that sucker is on its own, man! Especially if they can blame the mother for being a Loose Wimmen who shouldn't have dared to have sex if she didn't want to get pregnant. So yeah, who cares if you can afford to feed the kid, or clothe it, take care of it, or send it to school/daycare? That's up to you, slut! PULL YOURSELF UP BY YOUR BOOTSTRAPS!!!
As I have also said, and so has everyone else, this has absolutely nothing to do with "life," given as Republicans hate gun safety, vaccines against deadly and contagious diseases, or anything else that is designed to, you know, protect life. They don't care that abortion is a necessary medical procedure used to treat a wide range of failed pregnancies, and that women can and will die when it's withheld. They also don't think women have any function aside from serving as incubators for the next generation of Christofascist foot soldiers. This is why it is so fucking stupid to claim that "rich white women will always be able to get abortions!" They have been equally bald and obvious about stating that they want more white babies. The racist asshat who massacred African-American grocery shoppers in Buffalo literally referred to falling white birthrates and the white supremacist "replacement theory" that Tucker Carlson and his fellow slime have been spouting off about for years. That is literally what the "you will not replace us" slogan MEANS: they are terrified of becoming the numerical plurality in America, let alone the minority, and are desperate to force more white women to have more white babies, to outnumber all those pesky people of color. As I have said, Fascism 101.
Likewise, the evangelical Christian adoption industry makes big, big bucks, they want more grist for the mill, and if you give your baby to them, they will be happy to raise it as a cheery little fascist. This is also why they don't want to give any support to people who find themselves stuck in an unwanted pregnancy, and like to push the "you can just give it up for adoption!!" line so hard. They likewise don't care about the bodily trauma and life-changing medical experience that it is to be pregnant for 9 months and then being forced to give birth. Because they are fucking monsters.
Anyway. It's all so disgusting and terrible on every level. I don't know what else to say apart from that, so... yeah.

Smoke break (session 3)
Currently, I’m in my bathroom. I just finished smoking, so yea I like to hotbox my bathroom. I don’t have anything in particular to talk about it just felt the need to say, anything.
For some reason I really think I need to do shrooms. I’ve been told it’s enlightening. They show you what is true and what’s real in this world. The way I think and how much I think, it’s obviously something I care about and had a huge. Effect in my life. Just knowing how people think as well as why they think that way. Like, what leads a person to think to do something negative.
(Random subject change) I met this girl at the smoke shop I work at and she seems like she wants to be a better person, but she’s being held back by so much. Recently she had to move to Ohio not too long after meeting her. When she moved to Ohio I hear and listen to the say her mother talks and everyone around her and it seems like there almost anchoring her down, along with property and just the society in general. I hear all of this and I’m starting to think she’s just here to try to get some money some kind of way even if it’s having a baby by me just to take care of her and hers because she she’s I have something going for myself. I think she thinks my rolling paper business is goin to be big and she thinks it would be nice to get a piece of it. I only say all of this because I can tell she holding back. It also seems like her mom is one of those “stuck in her ways” adults as well as “it’s my way or no way” kind of person.
For some reason I just haven’t been as motivated lately, so today is a whole different day/week.
I’m outside thinking it’s ok to care less, but don’t be careless. With everything I know now I’m just trying to figure out the best way to climb.
So, basically I’ve found out two major situations that are goin to take place in the near future. 1.) we’re about to lose currency. No more cash. So I’m going to assume no more atms. I’ve never believe in conspiracy theories that much until now. The creator of cashapp died not long after they made the announcement that fed now was taking its place. Fed now will be what cashapp and Venmo and all of those apps are right now. To sum it all up in my own words and thoughts, I’m assuming the government wants to keep track of all of our money. With the US being in, I think some odd number of trillion of dollars, I get it. BUT, at the same time, do you really expect people to not have untraceable money when everything just seems off balance. By that I mean, what we’re being paid and how much essential items are, don’t exactly add up. The cost of living vs the minimum wage amount. The minimum wage amount vs organic food. Speaking of organic food, that leads me to my next major situation I came across.
Food. Apparently I read that our food is about to start being injected with the Covid vaccine, im assuming for the ones who didn’t take it. BUT, why is it so important that the vaccine is consumed. The only thing I can think of is there’s something in it that’ll control us in a certain type of way. It’s all about control. From financially when I was talkin about it earlier to now with the food and our health. Why do they want to control the population, or is it the Popo that ensures poverty. I was gonna say the black population, but it’s obvious, there are more of us living in poverty vs anyone else, but there are other people going through the same thing we are. BUT to contradict that, we’re still the masses of people in poverty. Maybe we really do have something they want, or need. Maybe the movie “get out” was ahead of its time.
I’m not sure why or what’s going on but, right now I’m hungry and debating whether or not I’m going to order doordash or just make chicken sandwiches and fries. I’m feeling like I deserve to treat myself so doordash it is.

you're so adorable in the sense I wanna enroll you into science 101 and watch you marvel at everything you learn bcs i js know you would
and also take you to a therapist bcs yeah being known as a conspiracy theory and alternatively idolised would suck so hard
I love science! One of the best ways humans can know My Divine Mother is to study Her creation and use what you learn for the benefit of Her world. Mother and I have actually answered plenty of prayers from scientists in my day, all the way from my girl Miriam Hebrea, the first alchemist ("Please don't let my cheese sauce seize up again") to Gregor Mendel ("Please let these bloody peas breed pink") to countless modern scientists who ask Me for everything from efficacious new vaccines to patience dealing with outdated equipment.
But I do spend most of My time answering prayers, appearing to mystics, or pressing my face into pieces of toast (NEVER make a corporate sponsorship deal as a deity, it's not worth it). So I haven't had nearly as much time to learn about the modern world and its technology as I like.
(I assume television is straight-up witchcraft and that Heaven has just all quietly agreed to ignore it the way they're quietly ignoring statues and tattoos. Sometimes you've just overwhelmingly lost a fight that wasn't important to begin with and you need to adjust the Karmic Algorithm.)
(Please don't try to explain television to me, either. If you can show people what you're doing from hundreds of miles away by sending it through a piece of glass via trapped lightning and invisible waves of force through the air, you're using spirits to do your bidding, I don't care how you put it. It's fine though, I really like telenovelas and The Great British Bake-Off.)
I actually sit in on a lot of therapy sessions. And support group sessions. Although a lot of those are about people not drinking or using drugs. Nobody loves Me like someone with a substance abuse problem, I'll tell ya. It really made Me cut down on the drinking.
(You have no idea how much alcohol I genuinely needed to get through the nineteenth century. Carrying around a little flask of the Water of Life is nothing for a guy who was mostly brandy during every moment of the 1860s. And that was for other people's medicinal purposes.)
But my own therapist would be great. My life, My death, My job, My Divine family, it's all So Freaking Much. It's not like I want it to end, I just think that if I had about a century or so to Myself, I could get a chance to breathe and recharge and spend the rest of Eternity really fresh for My role as Savior, you know?
Like, maybe all the Christians can just agree to go atheist for about a century and see how it works? Behave according to your moral principles and not the fear of an afterlife or of am all-seeing deity disapproving? Leave Me the fuck alone except for on My Birthday (not my real birthday, I spend that with my homies. My Queen's Birthday, as it were) and just check in with Me when they get the nice surprise of being greeted with "Everything is Fine!" in large friendly letters and a nice stardust milkshake with a cherry on top at the end of their lives.
Then maybe I could go back to school and also sort my shit out with a qualified psychological professional who's not invoking me so that people won't do heroin.

Hello, I’m the same pro choice anon who made the bodily autonomy argument! Couple of things to address actually,
“Personhood is not a philosophical concept”
It actually is and you kinda admitted yourself in your argument. It’s a legal concept. And if you want to be consistent in that argument, you would also have to admit that if a fetus has personhood ( which is what you are arguing it has ) then that would also mean a single-celled human zygote would have a right to sue in court, have a right to own and inherit property ect. Having a right to own or inherit property not just after birth but since conception, which would require a probate of the zygote's estate if it failed to implant in the mother's uterine lining and was passed out with the menses? And would then require a funeral, and a proper burial? If the law suddenly just defined an unborn human as a "person” that would be the case. But anyways, that’s not the main core of my argument so let’s move on.
“People who believed personhood could be granted, didn’t grant it to slaves and Jews.”
Okay, first of all. I was dreading you would make this infamous argument that pro lifers love to make, I don’t think you want to bring up slavery or the holocaust in your argument. Not only is it incredibly disingenuous but in doing so, you have to take in the fact that these slaves were autonomous beings before they were forcing them into slavery. In fact, they had to take away their autonomy in order to make them slaves. To compare slaves, fully autonomous people, to a fetus who doesn’t have its own autonomy, no agency , not even a fully developed body yet inside of the womb of the autonomous being is not the route I think you want to take. And then the other question is, who’s autonomy is the one being invaded in? The pregnant person was there first. The pregnant person is the one with its own autonomy. The pregnant person is the one sustaining its own homeostasis, not the fetus who is only taking from that body. I really don’t think you want to compare something that has caused so much generational trauma to the medical procedure of removing a non sentient fetus.
If we are going to compare a slave to anyone in this conversation, it would be the pregnant person who’s bodily resources are being taken away without their consent ( With the addition that slave owners forced slaves to give birth as well, pregnant enslaved women were more costly to buyers. )
“Also, it's very important to know that the fetus is not infringing on the mother merely by existing. It's existing exactly as it's supposed to.”
That my friend, is a naturalistic fallacy. To claim that something is good just because it’s “natural” . The claim of what is/ought to be. To try and define values in terms of natural properties is simply a fallacious argument and illogical. For example, “Breastfeeding is the natural way to feed children, therefore mothers ought to breastfeed and not use baby formula.” Or “ Vaccines are unnatural therefore they are bad for you” or “ Human females have the capacity to give birth therefore all women should be obligated to have children.”
Also you simply can’t consent to a biological process, the chance of getting pregnant is still there no matter what precautions you use. That biological process can still occur even in S/A cases. Unless you want to enforce celibacy which is odd and a weird way of saying you’d also wish to criminalize sex.
“Some babies are born very early, like before24 weeks, which is when a fetus is considered viable. If a baby is born at 20-22 weeks they are not considered viable?”
If it’s viable at 20-22 weeks then it’s viable. If that baby that was born is alive and capable of living outside the womb without the mother then no, it should not be killed because it now has its own bodily autonomy. It is no longer non-viable.
When you justify violating the rights of the fetus because they aren't viable, are you claiming that viability is when a person has rights and is no longer to kill?
I’m claiming that you have be viable in order to have those bodily autonomy rights in the first place. How can a fetus that can’t survive outside a womb and without the mother’s body have its own bodily autonomy when it’s directly infringing on her bodily autonomy? How can you have those rights when you are directly dependent of another person’s body who already has those rights that you are infringing upon.
“You are not killing a person by not donating an organ. You are killing a person by performing an abortion.”
Well, the action of not donating an organ to the person who is dying and that you caused to be in that state is undeniably killing them. But you are correct, it’s not an unlawful killing. Which is what my point is, a pregnant woman denying her bodily autonomy to a non-viable fetus is not a unlawful killing. How is denying your bodily organ sustain the life a person you put in a critical state not similar or the same as you denying to give up your bodily organs to sustain the life of a fetus? Please explain that further.
You made a claim saying that the law already infringes on our bodily autonomy with the use of seat belts , masks and ect.
That’s not what bodily autonomy rights are, bodily autonomy are when nobody has a right over your bodily organs and nobody has a right to use your body in order to sustain their own life. So yea, bodily autonomy rights TRUMPS over the right to life and they always have. No other human life has ever had the right to use another person’s body for their direct survival. Regardless of if they die or not as a result.
Also don’t really want to dive into your entire excuse for the foster care system and healthcare system part right now , I’ll send another ask replying to that maybe since this is already long enough.
Thank you.
"It [personhood] actually is [a philosophical concept] and you kinda admitted yourself in your argument. It’s a legal concept."
I actually didn't though? I said the definition of person is human and fetuses are human beings from conception. Personhood is not a legal concept. There is a legal concept of personhood for dealing with matters of law, but it is not the definitive concept of personhood that we use to determine who is a person and who is not.
It is your biology that determines whether or not you are a person. The word "person" may not be a scientific classification, but it is absolutely a word we use to describe human beings. Every human being is a person. Name one whose not.
Also, I think it's very dangerous to believe personhood is a philosophical concept, especially when you are going to use it as a reason to kill human beings who you philosophically don't acknowledge as persons.
"And if you want to be consistent in that argument, you would also have to admit that if a fetus has personhood ( which is what you are arguing it has ) then that would also mean a single-celled human zygote would have a right to sue in court..."
I mean no I wouldn't because whether or not you are a person is a biological fact that is woven into your genes, not whatever the law defines it as. The law can be wrong.
And, also, I don't really have an inherent problem with a single celled human zygote having all those rights even if they can't appreciate or exercise them lol. But if your belief is they aren't persons because they can't exercise all the rights people have, then you must also be consistent. Do you assert that a two day old newborn baby has the right to sue in court, have a right to own and inherit property, etc. Do we need to probate the estate of the baby (which isn't required in every state) if it dies before leaving the hospital? And if we don't do that does that mean that baby isn't a person?
I just think it's very misguided to decide who is a person based on what the law says about it and what legal procedures are done and not on the fact that they are biologically human beings, and thus, a person.
"Okay, first of all. I was dreading you would make this infamous argument that pro lifers love to make, I don’t think you want to bring up slavery or the holocaust in your argument."
Oh I absolutely do want to bring those up. You're the one who doesn't want me to bring them up. The arguments you make for abortion are the same ones made for slavery and the holocaust and I understand you don't like that being pointed out but I'm not going to refrain from doing so just because it makes you uncomfortable. Even though I've seen pro-lifers bring it up a lot, I've yet to see a pro-choicer make a good argument for why it's not the same so I'm going to do that until I get one.
Besides, you brought up the infamous organ donation argument that pro-choicers love to make so it's only fair.
"Not only is it incredibly disingenuous but in doing so, you have to take in the fact that these slaves were autonomous beings before they were forcing them into slavery."
It's not disingenuous. I actually 100% believe they are the same argument and you're advocating for killing people with the exact same reasoning that slavers and the Nazis used. Scientifically, we know the unborn are human beings. There's no debate about it in science yet you are creating arbitrary standards of what it means to be a human being that have no scientific basis whatsoever in order to kill people, just like was done in slavery and the holocaust. They just chose different arbitrary standards than you have.
So, are you asserting right now, that it is autonomy that makes one a human being? Babies are not autonomous for months after being born. Is it ok to kill them?
"In fact, they had to take away their autonomy in order to make them slaves."
Kind of like you're taking away all rights from the unborn baby, including the right to life and bodily autonomy, by killing it.
But here is the reason I bring up the slave/holocaust argument. It is revealing a big contradiction in your belief system that you do not seem to realize. You asserted that personhood is a legal and philosophical concept. Is this true or is there a universal truth about what constitutes a person outside of law? It can't be both. If what you said at the beginning of your ask is correct, and personhood is a philosophical concept decided by law then you have to believe that slaves and jews were not, in fact, people, because the law said they were not. If you believe they were people, which you seem to, then you are saying personhood is not a philosophical and legal concept and personhood is a determinable truth that is not philosophical or decided by law. So which is it?
"To compare slaves, fully autonomous people, to a fetus who doesn’t have its own autonomy, no agency , not even a fully developed body yet inside of the womb of the autonomous being is not the route I think you want to take."
It absolutely is the route I want to take because I know that being fully autonomous, having agency or being fully developed is not what makes someone a human person. I don't think you want to take the route that you must have those things to be a person because every condition you list can also be applied to someone outside the womb and if you remain consistent with the conditions you list for why the fetus isn't a person then you are saying there are human beings who are living outside the womb that you also don't consider to be people.
People aren't fully autonomous right after being born. At what point are people fully autonomous and thus are not ok to kill or force into slavery anymore?
Babies don't have agency right after being born. When do people get agency and thus are not ok to kill or force into slavery anymore?
People aren't fully developed until years after being born. In fact, your brain isn't fully developed until the age of 25. So is it ok to kill and enslave people under 25?
Those are the conditions you listed for why the fetus is less of a person so if you're consistent with that belief then you must also believe that a three month old is less of a person than an 18 year old. And an 18 year old is less of a person than a 25 year old.
Is that the route you want to take?
And then the other question is, who’s autonomy is the one being invaded in? The pregnant person was there first. The pregnant person is the one with its own autonomy. The pregnant person is the one sustaining its own homeostasis, not the fetus who is only taking from that body. I really don’t think you want to compare something that has caused so much generational trauma to the medical procedure of removing a non sentient fetus.
If you believe autonomy is a human right then you have that right by the nature of being human, not by being born. A woman's autonomy isn't being invaded by pregnancy. If she's pregnant, she chose to engage in an act that the sole biological function of is reproduction. Your rights aren't being violated because you chose to have sex and it ended a way you didn't want.
I really don't think you want to be saying it's ok to kill babies just because they aren't autonomous. Bodily autonomy is not license to kill. If exercising your bodily autonomy requires you to kill an innocent person, you don't have the right to do that.
Bodily autonomy has limitations and those limitations are present when another person is going to be harmed or killed. And that's what going on in an abortion. An innocent person is being intentionally killed.
If we are going to compare a slave to anyone in this conversation, it would be the pregnant person who’s bodily resources are being taken away without their consent ( With the addition that slave owners forced slaves to give birth as well, pregnant enslaved women were more costly to buyers. )
No, a pregnant woman is in no way comparable to a slave and it's absurd to say so. It's also minimizing what slavery is and very disrespectful to actual victims of slavery. Getting pregnant and giving birth is not slavery in any way, shape or form. No one says a woman must get pregnant. In fact, if a woman doesn't want a child I'm all for her not having one and choosing not to get pregnant. But it's not slavery to say you can't kill a baby you already have. And I don't think you want to be comparing slavery to not being able to kill your baby.
"That my friend, is a naturalistic fallacy. To claim that something is good just because it’s “natural",...."
Well my argument wasn't "it's natural and therefore good" so you're going to need to make sure you understand my argument before you try to refute it.
My argument was it's not infringing on her by existing. Natural biological process are not "infringing" on people's rights. The woman chose to risk starting the process of reproduction and reproduction is not infringing on the woman by happening. That was my argument.
If you invite someone into your home they aren't infringing on your rights by accepting the invitation.
"Also you simply can’t consent to a biological process, the chance of getting pregnant is still there no matter what precautions you use. That biological process can still occur even in S/A cases. Unless you want to enforce celibacy which is odd and a weird way of saying you’d also wish to criminalize sex."
Precisely. Which is why this is not a matter of consent. It's a biological process that can happen whether you want it to or not. If you don't want to go through the process and you are going to kill the baby if you get pregnant it would be better for you to abstain from sex altogether until you're ready to go through the process. I don't want to enforce celibacy but I do think people who are going to kill their baby if they get pregnant shouldn't be having sex. At all.
My core point here is once you are pregnant reproduction has happened. Now the baby exists. It is a human being, a person, from the moment of conception and if you abort the pregnancy at any point you are killing a human being and you have failed to give any example where bodily autonomy lets you intentionally kill an innocent person.
It's not a matter of consent. It's a matter of protecting human life. The baby does not need continuous consent to exist. You don't have the right to kill them.
"If it’s viable at 20-22 weeks then it’s viable. If that baby that was born is alive and capable of living outside the womb without the mother then no, it should not be killed because it now has its own bodily autonomy. It is no longer non-viable."
It's not viable. That's the whole point. Even after it's born at that age it's still not viable. They usually don't even survive after being born that young. So if a baby can be born at that age and we can't kill them, what's the difference when they are in the womb at that age? It's exactly the same level of viability both inside and outside the womb.
I think you need to define what you mean by viable. And where was it decided you only have human rights if you're viable?
"I’m claiming that you have be viable in order to have those bodily autonomy rights in the first place. How can a fetus that can’t survive outside a womb and without the mother’s body have its own bodily autonomy when it’s directly infringing on her bodily autonomy? How can you have those rights when you are directly dependent of another person’s body who already has those rights that you are infringing upon."
And, where, exactly, did you get the idea that you have to be viable to have autonomy rights? Is bodily autonomy a human right or not? Because if it's is human right then you have it by nature of being a human.
The fetus is not infringing on her bodily autonomy, as I've already explained and you've failed to prove otherwise. You just keep claiming it's an infringement but haven't refuted any of my arguments that explain how it's not an infringement. The fetus is a human being and has the same rights that the mother has.
The fetus has the right to life. And bodily autonomy is not the right to kill innocent people.
"Well, the action of not donating an organ to the person who is dying and that you caused to be in that state is undeniably killing them. Please explain that further."
You are not causing them to be in that state. If they need an organ they are already in that state. You are not saving their life. And that's completely different than killing someone. It's not a "lawful killing" because you are not killing people if you don't donate an organ. They are dying a natural death. We don't have the responsibility of saving people who are dying, but we do have the responsibility of not intentionally killing people who would continue to live without our interference.
If you are the one who put the person in the critical state that made them need the organ, then you are not required to donate the organ but you will be charged with murder if they die if you literally caused them to be in that position. So you don't have to save their life, but if they die you will be held responsible.
And abortion is not simply a matter of refusing to donate an organ. Do you know what must be done to prevent the baby from using your body? You have to rip its body apart limb by limb. Induce a heart attack. Crush its skull. These are very violent acts that would be considered crimes at any point outside of the womb and it's very disingenuous of you to compare it to simply not donating an organ. You do see how those are different, do you not?
Can you commit those same kind of acts on a person who you refuse to donate an organ to?
"You made a claim saying that the law already infringes on our bodily autonomy with the use of seat belts , masks and ect.
Regardless of if they die or not as a result."
I would really like to know where you're getting all your definitions for the assertions you make because it seems like you're making them up or just taking parts of them that you feel you can use to support abortion and discarding the parts that don't fit your belief system.
Bodily autonomy includes the right to govern your organs and using your body to sustain others, but that's not all it covers. Bodily autonomy is simply the right to govern ones own body. That's it. Not just about what you do with your organs or if someone needs assistance to live but in all matters that involve anything about your body inside or out of it.
So you think bodily autonomy is applicable if you want to kill an innocent person you created through a very specific act but it's not applicable if the government is telling you what to wear? You see how that makes no sense, don't you? If it applies in such severe cases and allows you to kill a person, then surely it covers less severe situations like if you don't want to walk outside with a cloth over your face when that hurts absolutely no one.
Skin is an organ. So if bodily autonomy is the right over your bodily organs than that has to include what you choose to put on your skin. So why is it different? Why doesn't bodily autonomy apply to other areas when you're being told what to do with your body?
Bodily autonomy does not trump the right to life and you have not given a single case where it does. The right to life is not the right not to die. The right to life is the right to live your life as you see fit until you die a natural death or forfeit that right based on your own choices. Someone else does not have the right to intentionally end your life if they don't consent to your existence. You don't get to say someone can't use your organs or body once they are already using it. Like if you donate an organ and then after the procedure is done and the person is using it you can't change your mind and take it back. Your rights end where another persons' begin.
If bodily autonomy trumps the right to life then that will apply in multiple other situations outside the womb. So give me a real life example of when we are allowed to intentionally end the life of another innocent, even perfectly healthy person, to exercise bodily autonomy. And organ donation doesn't count because you're not killing anyone by not donating an organ. I'm not talking about not making the decision to save an already dying person. I'm talking about a time when you're legally allowed to actively and intentionally end the life of another innocent human being who would have continued to live without your interference.

Top 5 headcanons, either that you’ve personally thought of or saw someone else mention (hope you feel better soon 💛)! Doesn’t specifically need to be DR, whatever is easiest to come up with haha.
Ooh, this is a good one! I think I will do DR head canons, since it'll just be easier for me to keep straight, ha.
Also, thanks! I'm feeling much better now than I did yesterday. Yesterday sucked, oof. I'm pretty sure it's either a mild version of the flu, or a strong cold. The flu is usually mild with me, since I have a good immune system and I get vaccinated every year, so either is possible. At least I've not had any nausea so far. I hate throwing up, oof. But thanks for the concern! :-D
Ask me my “TOP 5/TOP 10” anything!
Okay. So, most of my top head canons are ones that are used in TPWP/TPWM, or any of my other DR fanfics, so they will likely seem familiar to those familiar with my work, ha. Most are ones I came up with myself, but some are inspired by things I've seen around. ^-^ Some of these are two-parted, with one head canon connecting to a second/third, but they need to exist together... if that makes sense. Also, these aren't in order for which I like best, and are instead in order of being least to most my own idea. So... 5 is most based off other head canons, while 1 is completely my own thing, make sense? I was originally gonna order from least to most favorite, but that doesn't really fit here, ha.
5. Taka has severe anxiety. Like... this is kind of not a head canon at this point, considering the things Taka would say in canon, but it was never said outright in canon, plus other things could have caused Taka to say the things he did. But considering that I have fairly bad anxiety, I like to head canon Taka as having anxiety too. In conjunction with this one, there is also the head canon that Mondo has self-esteem issues and actively hates himself. Again, it is supported in canon, but since it's never outright said, it's still a head canon. I also take both to more of an extreme, ha. I just think it's an interesting dynamic to have Taka with anxiety and Mondo with self-esteem issues. I've definitely seen this done in other fics, so it's not really my own idea at all.
4. Taka's mother is dead/Taka was (or is) very close to his mother. I saw the "Taka's mother is dead" one in a fanfic somewhere, and it stuck with me. I think I came up with the whole Taka is close to his mother thing, though I doubt I'm the only one to think that. I wrote it in TPWP to have Taka be more of a parallel to Mondo (both of them lost someone close to them that they loved dearly and irrationally blamed themselves for), but I do like the idea of it. Concurrently, I also head canon that Takaaki loves Taka dearly, but is just really bad at showing it. This is similar to something I read in a fic once (I think it was in One Personal Favour by ChasML, which actually inspired a lot of TPWP early on), in that Takaaki is a bit dismissive of Taka and distant, but I wasn't a big fan of how they made Takaaki not actually love Taka in the end. So, I came up with the head canon that Takaaki was indeed distant and sometimes dismissive of Taka, but it wasn't malicious or anything. He was just grieving his late wife and didn't know how to connect with his living son anymore. However! I did write one fic where Taka's mom is alive (I don't think it'll ever get published since it's in WIP hell, sadly), though, and I had a wonderful time writing their relationship.
3. Daiya met Taka when he was younger, maybe even saved his life, and neither knew about it. This one was a head canon that I was very hesitant on at first, since it seems too serendipitous and coincidental for my liking, but the more I thought of it, the more I liked it. I even wrote about it in The Problem with Families. I just really like the idea that Taka did meet Daiya at some point, since Daiya is so important to Mondo. I think I did see this one somewhere in a fic? With Daiya rescuing Taka from a bully or something when he was young, but I don't know if that came before or after I came up with this head canon. I don't remember which fic that was, though, sorry.
2. Taka says "it's a Kiyotaka Ishimaru guarantee!" (Or, I suppose "Ishimaru Kiyotaka guarantee," considering he's Japanese). I honestly have no idea where I got this idea, but it started in one of the middle chapters of TPWP and I was super enamored to it and I added it to earlier chapters. It just seems like a Taka thing to say, you know? Super dorky, but also kind of endearing. I think I started it as a sort of parallel to Mondo's "promise between men" thing, but honestly, who knows. Either way, it definitely has been cemented in my brain and is just something Taka says, ha
1. Daiya has a mentor that helped him when he was younger. This one is also concurrent with the head canon that Daiya and Mondo's father was abusive and their mother was a negligent alcoholic, as well as the head canon that Daiya is several years older than Mondo. I came up with this idea when writing TPWM, and y'all will have seen it in the latest chapter with Daisuke. I really like the idea, though. Mondo canonically stated that he only had Daiya as family growing up (and I saw someone say that Mondo's reference to his mom in a FTE was something added in the English dub, which makes sense since I never understood how that fit with him stating he only had Daiya), so it makes sense that their parents were terrible and not really in the picture. Mondo's anger and his anxiety talking to people (women in canon, but it can be thought that it wasn't just exclusive to women) are signs of abuse and negligence, too, so that whole idea isn't completely far fetched. Having Daiya raise Mondo pretty much on his own from the time Mondo was a baby is also not completely far fetched, since I have sadly heard real stories of older siblings almost exclusively raising their younger sibling. However, I like the idea that Daiya wasn't completely alone, and that he had some semblance of a mentor/positive father figure in his life that helped teach him the rules he taught to Mondo. I've not really seen this as a head canon before (the abusive father one, yes, but not the alcoholic mother one either), which is why I'm putting it at number 1. It has nothing really to do with canon, either, just is something I think makes sense and would be nice.
Alright, done! Phew, that was a lot. However, I do have one bonus thing for y'all that I thought of when I was writing the one about Taka's mother. This one isn't really a head canon, but like I said, I was reminded of it and wanted to share. Anyway, in the same fic where I had Taka's mother live, I also had Daiya live, since I like Taka and Mondo being parallels to each other. However, I don't think that Mondo would have become the person he is in DR if he didn't have some tragedy befall Daiya, so in this AU, Daiya was hit by the truck like in canon, but here he survived. However, he fell into a coma for a few months, which made Mondo super guilty and worried, leading to him having a similar reaction to the whole thing.
Daiya did eventually wake up, but he was paralyzed from the waist down and has some trouble using his hands, meaning he cannot ride a motorcycle anymore, plus he needs someone around to help him do certain tasks. Obviously, both Daiya and Mondo prefer that Daiya is alive, but it does lead to some tension between the two, especially with Mondo's insistence that the whole thing was his fault. Daiya does not see it like that at all, he knows that it was completely his decision (and one he'd do again, gladly giving every and anything to save his little brother), and he gets frustrated with Mondo sometimes because of his guilt. But ultimately, they are still very close and love one another dearly. Also, Daiya teases the hell out of Mondo for being head over heels in love with Taka while not realizing it, but that's just a given. ;-) And he's so, so proud of Mondo for having gotten into Hope's Peak, and had to pretty much force him to leave Daiya to the care of some members of the gang and head off alone to school. ^-^
Thanks for the ask!! :-D
