Motenko Releases Soulful Self-Titled Debut EP
Austin, Texas-based retro-soul outfit Motenko recently released their self-titled debut EP, a five-track collection of songs mirroring the profound, visceral emotional sufferings of frontman Micah Motenko.
Micah shares, “I wrote these songs during that period of time, mostly to help me say all of the things that I couldn’t say in real life.”
Talking about the cathartic aspects of the EP, he…
♫ It Takes Two ♫
After the events of the evening (the aforementioned cat fight), I was pretty sure there could be no music post tonight, but then … dear David mentioned this song by the wonderful Marvin Gaye, and I knew I had my song for the night! Thank you, David!
It Takes Two is a hit single recorded in late 1965 by Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston for Motown’s Tamla label.
Produced by Weston’s then-husband,…

There’s no shame in desiring love and to be loved. Dismiss anybody who tries to discredit the encounter of someone loving you beyond your fears and beyond your dreams. Love who you love.

Stevie Wonder “My Cherie Amour” 1969, Motown Records (ours is a 1984 reissue on Tamala Motown with an alternate cover). Today’s pull is a soulful, mellow Monday spin of Wonder’s 11th studio album is a mix of originals and wildly eclectic covers including one from The Doors (“Light My Fire”), a Broadway musical (“Hello Young Lovers” from The King and I) and film musicals (“At Last” from Sun Valley Serenade and “The Shadow of Your Smile” from The Sandpiper). The title track “My Cherie Amour” is a Wonder original and single from the LP which went to #4 in the US and the UK. The other single from the album “Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday” is a cover, though not as well known as the other covers (written by Ron Miller and Bryan Wells, first recorded by Chris Clark in ‘66); it went to #7 in the US and #2 in the UK. My top track is the funky groover “Somebody Knows, Somebody Cares” (a Wonder original that he co-wrote with his mom, Lula Mae Hardaway, which in my mind makes the song that much better ❤️).
♫ I’m In A Different World ♫ (Redux)
Tonight’s song by the Four Tops is a redux, but a special one to celebrate the birthday of our dear friend, David. Now, I won’t tell how old David is today, but suffice it to say that he is 139 days older than I am, and I take great delight in reminding him of that fact! David loves this song, and when I played it last year, I declared it would be the song of the day on January 18th from then…
