Uta no Prince-Sama Maji Love Live 6th Stage 27/5

Now that I’ve had a chance to actually sit down, I’m going to do a quick write-up (not so much a blow-by-blow but a list of shit I found awesome/hilarious/whatever).

Notes under the cut bc length and so anyone going tomorrow doesn’t get spoiled!

The set list itself was pretty good, I saw a full list on tumblr so click through if you want to see it. HEAVENS didn’t get solos, but they were already pretty stretched for time so it makes sense. STARISH and Quartet Night did all manner of solos, duets, group performances, mixed group performances, whatever. No 2000% or Revolutions, which seriously bummed me out (did they REALLY have to do Legend Star twice????).

Judging from the BD of 5th Stage (which I’ve watched too many times), they ran for about the same time (~3.5 hours), but 6th Stage had wayyyy less talking. STARISH and Quartet Night did a short combined talk, HEAVENS did a short talk (which, if my shitty Japanese and body language skills were correct, was mostly Midorikawa (Eiichi) leading everyone in bullying OnoD (Kira) as always), and they did their thank yous at the end (and also announced a new anime project but I couldn’t catch any details bc said shitty Japanese; EDIT: it’s an original theatrical film!). There was no big group talk like other performances have had (at least, from what I’ve seen on the DVDs/BDs).

That’s the basic rundown, so let’s do the fun stuff (in mostly chronological order).

I posted this pic earlier (click through for bigger view) but I’ll show it again so we all remember the layout of the place lmao (this was about an hour-90 mins before the show started, it was FULL by the performance time). The acoustics fucking sucked and I’m pretty sure it’s because the arena has open sides (but it was thoroughly enjoyable anyway).

EDIT: I’m hearing talk of people not getting in on time or something? I dunno man, I planned ahead and went ‘ok, 30k capacity venue, one place to do ID checks and wristbands, doors open at 2 for a 4.30 start...I’ll get there at 2, then.’ Had my wristband by 3 and was in my seat by 3.30 (with quite a bit of messing around outside). It did start a bit late, but that’s par for the course for every show I’ve ever been to lol.

So first of all, fucking STARISH opened the show by emerging from a giant goddamn balloon that blew up in the middle of the stage (under the big screens in about the upper middle of that pic). There were smoke machines and dramatics and everything lmao.

After that, QN did their thing, and shoutout to the super cute woman near me who sobbed her heart out for the entirety of her fave’s solo song, you’re adorable and I love you. Call me.

Between STARISH and QN, there were also some very interesting haircut/wig choices lmao. Maeno (Camus) looked like Joan Jett; Aoi’s (Ai) usual blue clip ins reallllly did not work with the weird light brown hair colour he otherwise had going on lmao. Kishow (Natsuki) had a pretty sweet shaved left side going on though, looked like there was a pattern shaved in edge of it. I was kind of expecting Suwabe (Ren) to go temporarily orange (bc of the bleach job he’s been rocking lately) but he didn’t, and I couldn’t tell if he was wearing his usual mullet Ren extensions.

Mamo (Tokiya) came out to do his thing with the opening, it was pretty good, and then they brought out the fucking fake rain on the left side of the stage (near the big white ball thing, more on those soon). It was cheesy and terrible and perfect (much like UtaPri itself tbh).

Cecil’s performance opened with cat noises and someone appearing on stage holding a cat (it was moving from what I could tell, and I hope like hell that it was animatronic, was kinda hard to tell from my position), only to have a cloud of smoke appear around them with that dramatic ass Toriumi stepping out of it. Side note, he looked less...let’s say uncomfortable than other years and I am v proud of him.

And then Suwabe. Suwabe. Light of my life (both the bloke himself and Ren, tbh). He performed the majority of his solo while riding on a fucking orange hoverboard. Old mate was just tooling around the stage the whole time and I kept waiting for him to stack it but he never did, not even while fairly blasting around backwards. I am so impressed and it was my fave moment of the whole show tbh.

I was confused about all the sunflowers people had but then Terashima (Otoya) popped up on stage and I remembered that whole thing lmao. His solo involved a horde of red shirt wearing, sunflower wielding children as backup dancers, it was super cute!

After all the solos and a little chat they did 1000%, aka the best damn group song this show has ever produced (fight me). Not much to say there, I just love it too much to leave it out.

This was about halfway through the show, when HEAVENS finally showed their faces (rising up on big podiums on the left stage, naturally). HEAVEN’S GATE is another song I love so that was super cool lol. They did a chat, sang another group song, and then it was time for all the Duet Project songs.

When Mamo (Tokiya) and Uchida (Eiji) hugged at the end of their song, I thought there were going to be mass heart attacks in the audience (my god, the crowd went wild for fanservice lololol).

EDIT: I just remembered what I liked about Kishow (Natsuki) and Yonaga’s (Nagi) duet: They had ‘LET’S’ and ‘SHOUTING’ written on their palms like they do in the series lolololol. Nice touch.

Lasting Oneness...I love that fucking stupid song lmao. Suzuken (Masato) sadly didn’t get his chance to do flips on wires, but he and OnoD (Kira) were in big crane things on the very right of the stage that lifted pretty high and did a big, slow 360 over the area. When Suzuken was stepping out of it he tripped over the bottom railing lmao (didn’t fall, but visibly stumbled a bit). Also, OnoD looked way less like he wanted to die than he did last time I saw him at an event (the Last Game talk), so that was nice lolololol.

Suwabe (Ren) and Hidenori’s (Van) song fucking went off, which is fair enough lmao. They were both being pulled on big carts through the back of the audience from either side, and Hidenori went right by my area which was pretty cool!

After that was Toriumi (Cecil) and Yamashita’s (Shion) turn. It began with these big white sphere things lifting up:

Yeah, turns out they were attached to baskets and they fucking floated around the arena with the seiyuu singing in them. It was one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time, actually. Looked pretty high.

I’d assumed that there would be no wire flying bc of the arena setup, but Shimono (Syo) and Kimura (Yamato) proved me wrong on that one when they started having a goddamn mid-air fight under the four big screens in the middle of that big venue pic.

Yeah, under there. That white disc thing on the stage is the balloon that inflated and then opened to reveal STARISH at the beginning lmao.

Once all the Duet Project songs were done, HEAVENS, QN and STARISH all did their season ending performance songs, then they all fucked off before coming back for the encore.

This involved all 3 groups on the big carts they drive around the area, with HEAVENS and QN on the far side (from my perspective) and STARISH on my side. First up both HEAVENS and QN did their season opening songs, and so the cameras were all focused on the opposite side of the arena to STARISH.

This is important because, while both groups were singing their songs, Mamo (Tokiya) was, and I’m not exaggerating here, dancing like his goddamn rent was late. When it was time for STARISH to perform and the cameras were on him, he was well behaved. But fuck me, when the cameras were safely away, he was straight up air humping and bumping and grinding and doing high kicks and basically looking like he could have been doing a 2am performance to Warrant’s Cherry Pie.

And I only managed to see it because I was at the exact right angle to see STARISH while the action was going on over at the opposite side of the arena. TBH I don’t know how many people even noticed, considering that you would assume something like that would draw massive amounts of screaming.

I can’t even tell you what anyone else was doing during that time because I was enthralled (and I’m not into that lmao). I’ve noted before that he has a very feminine dancing style sometimes, actually (the chair dance part of Secret Lover from 5th Stage has always struck me as being a very feminine routine).

Anyway, that’s about it. They did their thank yous, announced the new anime project (whatever it was lmao; EDIT: original theatrical film), did Legend Star again for some reason, and I fucked off during the curtain call because I’m a bad person and have you ever tried to leave an arena with 30k other people all going for the same train. Got a seat on the train and all lmao.

A lovely woman near me at the train station was cutting this silver ribbon off a roll and handing it out, which was super nice of her (pictured with wristband because why not lmao)!

Anyway, that’s the highlights as I remember them (and as noted in terribly confusing shorthand with all my stupid nicknames on my phone while on the train). If I think of anything else later I’ll add it in, I’m pretty tired and probably forgot something lol.

12/10 great fucking time wdbwa and will definitely buy the DVD/BD when it comes out.

Sadly all my magic rituals to try and scry directly inside Hoshino’s mind haven’t worked just yet, so I can’t answer this question - also, looks like DGM isn’t in the line-up for Jump SQ Crown this month either :( so we won’t know for at least another four months still - since Lavi’s my absolute most fave and thinking about the situation he’s in makes me feel literal pain and no actual solution to it seems to want to come any time soon, I try to think about it as little as I can. After six years of waiting for him denial has become my best friend, anon 👍

I wouldn’t say he cares more for others than himself, but he definitely does have different standards for others compared to those he uses on himself - then again, isn’t that just how people with low self-esteem always act? BUT!!! I have all the good reasons to think that Bakugou’s words have significantly lessened Kirishima’s inferiority complex about his quirk (because I’m locating that chat before the license exam and when you think about it since around then Kiri has been acting more confidently !!!) so I don’t think you should worry too much anymore! Kirishima has Bakugou and Bakugou has Kirishima and they keep each other good and positive and that’s beautiful and I’m alive

The real question here is why Hagakure needs a case at all

most enthusiastic participants would be Snipe and Toshi, Cementoss would have no problems with it either and his quirk is handy for cool effects, Midnight is kind of live and let live about the whole deal but doesn’t mind stopping by to look at them making fools of themselves now and again - most of the students are like ???? why tho the first time because they aren’t kids anymore and there’s no reason for this, Iida though doesn’t even question sitting through the whole thing because it’s their teachers and it’s just the right thing to do, Izuku does the same but just because All Might, Ochako stays because Izuku and Iida stay, same for Todoroki, and if Ochako stays so does Tsuyu - Kirishima and Mina are the only actually enthusiastic ones out of Baku’s group but they got a way to bring all of the squad together for it anyway, Baku included, they’re noisy and pushy just enough for that… actually when I think about it in the end everyone would stay at least the first time for one reason or another , and then the show starts, and it’s with quirks and really out of scale on the special effects with microphones and bgm and shifting stages and so on and this was supposed to help the students with sleeplessness but at this point it’s just the teachers having fun and together with them the kids as well no one goes to sleep any time soon when they put together a show lbr

Summary: Gym 3 has Opinions™ about Tetsumi’s new haircut. Tetsumi’s also a little vulgar, but mostly a useless lesbian and highkey gay for Tsukki.

Tetsumi gets a haircut a few days before the summer training camp. After dealing with long hair for a few months, she figures that having shorter hair will be much less of a hassle, especially with the upcoming increase in volleyball practice.

The fact that Karasuno is driving down to join them for camp again may or may not have a deciding factor in the particular style she chooses. She wonders how Tsukishima would like her new look.

Her team doesn’t make a big fuss out of it.

Aside from Ken-chan, the first- and second-years ooh and ahh when they first see her but otherwise get over it really quick. Ken-chan’s known Tetsumi since they were kids, so she definitely doesn’t care about Tetsumi’s style changes.

Yaku can not care less too, but she doesn’t really care for Tetsumi to begin with, more concerned about maintaining the pain-in-the-ass aspect of their frenemy relationship than she does about Tetsumi’s hair. Kai compliments her because she’s the kindest person on the team by far.

Tetsumi considers taking a photo and sharing it online—at the very least, text Bokuto about it—but decides not to, thinking that her teammates’ lack of reaction would be the same for everyone else. When the training camp starts, she finds out how wrong she is.

After the first day of camp, Tetsumi hears them talking. She’s just about to enter the gym for free practice but stops when she hears Bokuto, Akaashi, and Tsukishima clearly gossiping. She hides behind the wall, peering inside to spy on them.

“I could bring it up,” Bokuto stage whispers. Tetsumi rolls her eyes—the fact that she can hear Bokuto from halfway across the gym is not a surprise. That girl couldn’t keep quiet if her life was on the line.

“Bokuto-san, it’s not our place. It was Kuroo-san’s decision and she never asked us about it,” Akaashi says in a hushed voice. Tsukishima hums her agreement.

Tetsumi furrows her brows. They’re talking about her?

“But I feel like someone should say something,” Bokuto insists. Say something about what?

“I mean, I would,” Tsukishima says.

“Tsukishima,” Akaashi warns.

“I won’t unless she asks me, obviously.”

“But if she doesn’t then we don’t say anything.”

Bokuto doesn’t step down though, her volume increasing when she says, “But someone has to tell her!”

Tell me what?! Tetsumi thinks in frustration. Stop beating around the bush!

When Bokuto starts to whine even louder, Akaashi tries to calm her down and Tsukishima helps her out.

“Bokuto-san, not so loud–”

“What if Kuroo-san–”

“Kuroo should know though!”

Tetsumi’s had enough.

“I should know what?” Tetsumi asks, voice dripping with innocence as she grins at everyone. She projects loud enough so her friends can hear her, and everyone stops talking as she walks up to them.

“Kuroo-san,” Tsukishima says. She has a blush high on her cheeks, eyes wide like a deer caught in headlights.

Akaashi wears a similar expression when she asks, “How long have you been listening to us?”

“Long enough.” She shrugs.

“We didn’t realize you were there.” Akaashi gives her an apologetic look.

Tetsumi doesn’t answer her. “What did you want to tell me, Bokuto?” she asks instead, flashing the spiker a sweet smile.

Bokuto at least has the decency to look embarrassed. Tetsumi would find it really adorable if it weren’t for the fact she has to interrogate her over whatever gossip they were talking about.

“Oh, uh–”

“What?” she says. “You can’t tell me now that I’m here?”

“No! It’s just–”

“You look like a Grade A Lesbian with your new hair, Kuroo-san.”

Tetsumi takes a small step back, shocked by how bluntly Tsukishima puts it. She still has a blush tinting her face but she looks at Tetsumi straight-on, which Tetsumi would find it hot if she wasn’t so stunned right now.

“Tsukishima...” Akaashi says in a low voice, looking at her with narrowed eyes.

“Like, you actually have the lesbian side-mullet,” the blonde continues, adjusting her glasses. “It’s not bad, but you’ve never looked gayer in your entire life.”

Tetsumi melts at that. She places a hand on her chest, smiling softly at her precious middle blocker kouhai.

“Aw, Tsukki, that’s so sweet of you!” she coos, and Tsukishima rolls her eyes. Then she realizes something. “Wait, is that what you guys were worried about? My hair?”

Bokuto scratches her head. “You just got it cut,” she says. “We didn’t know if it was okay if we said anything.”

“Of course it’s fine,” Tetsumi replies. “Why wouldn’t it be?” Maybe she should have posted a picture after all...

“You get mad when someone talks about your bed head though!”

“Okay, yes, but it’s not the same. Kinda.” She rolls her eyes. “In any case, I’d want you to tell me if my new hairdo looks like shit.”

Then, Tetsumi gasps, eyes growing wide. “Oh god,” she realizes, “it does, doesn’t it?”

Everyone begins to talk over each other.

“Of course it doesn’t–”

“No!Your new hair is cool!”

“I literally just said it wasn’t bad.”

Tetsumi sighs in relief. “If you’re sure...”

“So, you’re not mad?” Akaashi clarifies.

She shrugs. “Why would I be mad? I purposefully got this haircut so every girl who looks at me knows I eat puss–”

Tsukishima slaps a hand over her mouth.

“Kuroo-san, maybe don’t announce that when half of Tokyo’s girls’ volleyball teams are in the vicinity,” she advises.

“But that’s the perfect time to say it!” Tetsumi whines behind Tsukishima’s hand.

The blonde rolls her eyes, and Akaashi facepalms.

“She’s not wrong,” Bokuto points out, tapping a finger on her chin.

Tetsumi gives the others a look. See! she thinks as she waves an arm towards Bokuto.

“Can we just get on with practice now?” Akaashi asks, sounding exasperated. Tetsumi thinks she needs to pamper her one day, maybe invite the setter to the beach when this training camp ends so she can relax a little bit. Akaashi would look cute in a bathing suit.

Tetsumi mentally files the plan away for later, pulling Tsukishima’s hand from her face. “Yes,” she agrees. “As much as I’d love to talk about how gay I am, we should get to practice.”

Bokuto whoops, skipping away to grab a volleyball while Akaashi trails behind her. Tsukishima follows them, but Tetsumi stays back, allowing herself to check out Tsukishima’s long legs in her tiny volleyball shorts. Her butt is as cute as ever.

“I know you’re looking at me, Kuroo-san,” Tsukishima calls without looking back. “Please stop staring at my ass and help us out.”

Tetsumi blushes at getting caught, but catches up with the rest of her friends.

“So,” Tetsumi says during a water break, “is lesbian side-mullet doing anything for you?”

Tsukishima shoots her a side-eye glance while sipping from her bottle. She doesn’t answer after she finishes her drink, walking away to help Akaashi with something.

“I guess that’s a no,” Bokuto says when the other middle blocker leaves.

Tetsumi smiles, crossing her arms. “No, it’s not.”

November 2017 Wrap-Up

Oh, man! This was such a good month for me reading-wise! I could have done better at actually blogging, but I'm not even bothered because I'm doing so well right now.

Non-Reading Stuff

As far as my health and such goes, the month started off pretty badly, but it's really improving now. I finally got new meds after my old ones were recalled (blah blah, kidneys matter, apparently) so I'm no longer in constant pain and I can eat normal foods and I'm even getting my appetite back. Hurray! (Also they shoved a camera down my throat, fun fun fun.)

Mental health has been doing better lately, too! I have left the house on 3 separate occasions this month, which anyone who has paid any attention to my tumblr blog knows is a record for any month in the past couple years. I even went into a public place during 2 of those trips outside (not counting the doctor's office). And, I've even been letting people into the house. Only 2 so far, but that's still a huge deal for me. I couldn't even let my own mother visit for a long time there, and she's been over 3 different times this month! Ha!

Oh, also, for those who remember me shaving my head several months back and then proceeding to complain as it grew out because it kept trying to become a mullet: I got a real haircut and the mullet is dead!

So you can see why I'm not going to beat myself up about not remembering to blog regularly. Now if only my allergies would fuck off... I'm developing a vicious hatred of tissues.

Reading Stuff

I read 18 books in November, and of those I finished 16. You can view this list of books and my fave/least fave things about them here.

The last week or so of the month I hit a bit of a reading slump, but to be honest I expected it, and the good news is: I'm already coming out of it! In fact, I'm having to force myself to be typing up my wrap-up instead of reading...

Aaaaand.... My 16 completed books from November officially puts me 5 books from my goal of 75 for the year!

Those of you who were reading my blog around summertime might remember that even though I originally set my Goodreads goal at 75, in summer I lowered it to 50 because I was having so much trouble with my mental health and reading, and I didn't want to further discourage myself by massively missing my goal. Well after I did so well in October, I decided to go ahead and return to my original goal, which I am 100% confident I can meet (and surpass!) before the end of the year.

Blogging Stuff

I haven't been doing great at blogging, as I mentioned. Mostly I get so caught up with other things I just forget, but I'm going to be trying harder for December.

I did at least manage to occasionally post for the book memes I follow (which you can find in their respective tags in the sidebar if you are on WordPress) and a Dedication Spotlight, as well as some quote posts and rating posts for all the books I read (links to those categories in the sidebar).

The thing that's really been bothering me is I haven't been reviewing at all lately. Partially that's because I've been rereading some books from years ago, and I don't like to review rereads or classics for various (probably dumb) reasons. I also have trouble when I'm reading really quickly, like with the Rick Riordan books. I don't take notes when I'm reading that fast, and even if I did I wouldn't want to stop and review anything because I want to jump right to the next book.

But honestly, I was having trouble reviewing already anyway. I'm not sure why... I finish a book with the full intent to review it, and then find myself with absolutely nothing to say... I'm hoping it was just a case of block, or even just because I wasn't in the right headspace. If not, I haven't the foggiest idea how to solve this one. I don't want to give up on reviewing entirely because I actually like it when I can do it, but I guess we shall see how it goes in December.
