1. What makes Leonard laugh?
Even in his youngest days, Leonard was extremely difficult to elicit any laughs from. In his days in the village, it had inadvertently bolstered the pride of many people, particularly his friends, when they had gotten him to do so much as let slip a chuckle through the antics and stories they shared, though it wasn't necessarily that he had carried the weight of many, if any at all burdens at that time as Leonard was simply known for being quiet and awkward in his youth up until puberty.
At the same time, Leonard had always been an extraordinarily friendly and helpful face that had grown to be well-known by his village as he stepped into his own and became more sociable with the faces around him. It wasn't uncommon for him to be seen smiling or grinning back then. For the briefest moment, even the rare laughter others had barely gotten to hear had become increasingly common for Leonard following the birth of his younger brother, Lukhege, but by the end of the year, he had fallen into a deep depression that took away even the smile on his face, much to the shock of the village.
It had grown small at first, his "Distant" days where a neutral face or even grimace had become increasingly commonplace and only returned to a smile as soon as his brothers had come back from turning their backs. Eventually he only mustered a happy look in front of his friends, and later, only his brothers... But by the time he had left, not a soul had seen or heard him laugh for years.
It was only after his brothers had come to live with him that Leonard had found himself not just smiling (At times he had forgot everything to the point that he had even smiled with the same comfort as he had before he had thought of bearing any secrets), but allowing himself the occasional chuckle as well. His brothers had grown up in a good enough environment that they were allowed the luxury of a good sense of humour, whether it was their acting amongst themselves, their own, individual antics, or some conversations they shared with their own eldest sibling, seeking brotherly advice or asking questions or favours. "What did you do here for the past six years?" "Did you get sick in the winter? Are you capable of getting sick?" Perhaps they had sensed their brother's sorrow and sought to try and alleviate it, one way or another.
Not much is known at what could make Leonard laugh, generally, if even possible - Getting him to smile is a large enough feat on it's own. Perhaps it's only by the hands of someone dear to him that he could forget his guilt just long enough to earn that privilege.
2. How does your character make others happy when they are sad?
Not only having experience as an older brother to three younger siblings (Who had, notably enough, later lost their home and family to the Empire), but also being a gentle-mannered and empathetic individual at heart, Leonard can be considered surprisingly good among his current company at comforting others despite his own depression — The issue only being finding the courage or words to say that don’t deepen his own. Leonard often sees himself as a hypocrite having too much to say despite his own troubles when he speaks, so he often prefers to sit and listen above anything, keeping his commentary to a minimum and his advice even farther so, when it can be helped.
Generally, unless it’s someone he cares especially deeply for to the point he finds himself taking personal interest in their wellbeing, it’s unlikely for Leonard to get himself involved to lend an ear and provide his comfort and reassurances — The only one he would find himself comfortable giving that much is Seere.
3. What is the funniest mishap that happened to your character?
From his social ineptness as a child, to the bittersweet laughs he had living alongside his brothers in the forest, those once fond memories had gradually all faded into nothing but a source of pain the further he drifted on in life. Though his blindness later on in life has resulted in more than enough mishaps (both comical and not), Leonard rarely has ever found any to smile, much less laugh over.
There was one incident, however...
It had gradually grown into a habit for him to set his coat over Arioch’s shoulders during the Union expedition to the Winter Wastelands. He wasn’t heartless. No matter how he believed Arioch should and would someday see judgement for her crimes, freezing to death seemed inhumane in the sense that not even “justice” could act as a term of proper retribution against those sins. As time passed and Leonard had grown to sense and learn about the common sounds and signs that denoted she was near, he had grown to the point of increasing familiarity, and perhaps one could say confidence in his ability to see past his blind eyes, walk by, and place his coat on her shoulders and continue on by as if nothing had ever happened. An act of kindness perhaps misplaced one fine day as his coat fell, instead, on the shoulders of one particularly lucky soldier.
By the time he had processed the resulting shock and confusion, the hermit had already wandered off into the snow...
Leonard, distant yet on vaguely friendly terms with most individuals, still manages to crack a smile in response whenever the incident is brought up. Perhaps only half-genuine, but the incident isn’t entirely unlaughable.
