Episode 5 of Ahsoka reminded me so much of the moment in Jedi: Fallen Order where Cal too confronts a vision of his master who died long before.
Both padawans had their training cut short. Both masters have one last lesson to teach them about forgiveness and moving forward. Or maybe they're just visions their padawans are imagining to deal with their grief, ptsd and guilt (in Ahsoka's case for abandoning Anakin and not preventing his fall, in Cal's case because Jaro Tapal died to protect him). Maybe this lesson comes from the Force itself.
Both protagonists are at a moment in their journey in which these negative emotions and immense pain are pushing them dangerously close to the dark side, both outside of their visions (Ahsoka threw Shin like a ragdoll in a fit of anger, Cal grew resentful towards Cere) and inside of them (Ahsoka got Sith eyes when she briefly considered slaying Anakin, Cal destroyed his lightsaber). Both masters turn against their students, but the solution is not to kill them, rather to forgive them (and forgive themselves).
The main difference is of course that, where Cal needed to learn to pick his battles and truly think about the consequences of his fight and fighting for fighting's sake, Ahsoka needed to be reminded why she was fighting, what her end goal was and why it was important for her to keep going. Cal learns to live with his powerless young self and Ahsoka learns to live with the powerhouse that is Vader.

Fanwork creators self rec! When you get this, reply with your five favorite fics/art/podfics/etc. that you've made, then pass on to others. Let’s spread the self-love 🌼
Oh man let me think, I'm kind of critical about my own work. UH.
That Discworld ficlet I wrote a couple years ago about Discworld!Canada and decolonization. I don't write a lot of fanfiction and this was really more of a practice to grok Pterry's language and style, but I'm very proud of how it turned out. Every time someone leaves a tag on it to say they thought it was from a Discworld book they just hadn't read I very sincerely cry.
Overlord. This is maybe a little too new to include in this post, but I do like that something I wrote for the purpose of being silly and goofy and self-indulgent really resonated with people.
The God of Salmon. I wasn't sure if I was going to include this on this list, but then I read the words "Many raucous orgies are held. Hallelujah," and yeah it's good.
Jack and the Fairy Dress. This is all my favourite tropes from Overlord again but with a fairy tale retheming. I'm a simple creature.
Qaylie and the Quiet Fire. This is just my favourite thing I've ever written. This is a hot toddy on a winter day. It's not very big and it's not very long, but I made it from a cozy little corner of melancholy I like returning to every now and then.

You know what, you seem cool...
*dumps all of my Seduce Me Headcannons/theories*
~Contains Spoilers~
• The only reason the boys were back in the Chicago area to begin with was for Harold's funeral. They heard about it on the news and all went into shock.
• Getting their Human names went one of 4 ways: 1) They picked them themselves 2) Harold had the names on IDs ready to go, and let them pick a card - he just had to add the persons photo 3) Harold gave them the names persoanlly 4) Damien picked them all out beforehand while he was learning about the Human World
• The reason Sam didn't get to pick - or they didnt have time to do his choice - where they went on for trips was cause he kept losing at rock - paper - scissors (or coin tosses etc) so he never got to pick
• Since Sam and Damien can't read, if they were left on their own to order something they'd just point at something and hope it was good
• It took a bunch of Trial and error to learn that Matthew likes sweeter Coffee
• Damien Is Demisexual - or Graysexual, somewhere on that spectrum (im prepared to die on this hill)
• I could also see Erik being Demi
• Sam was super nervous to tell Carrie he was a Demon and was working himself up, but she already knew
• Damien can get overstimulated with sound sometimes due to his mind-reading. Even when he's human he can still get it from time to time in stressful situations.
• Damien would get frequent panic attacks and the others got really good at learning how to ground him and calm him down. When Mika gets stressed or panics about school or work stuff they use similar techniques.
• Sam does the most abbreviated texts (eg; c u 2nite) James uses proper grammar, Matthew uses Emojis and gifs, Erik knows all the flirty lingo, Damien also abbreviates but not as bad as Sam and he likes using the occasional Emoji😊☺️
• Matthew has fun ringtones while James uses default ones.
• Matthew has Sam saved as "Jackass" and Sam has Matthew saved as "Pipsqueak" (or something similar)
• Erik & Matthew are the type that get sick/pass out when their blood gets taken. Sam sometimes does too, but he will never admit it
• (In the Anderson mansion) James & Erik's rooms were neat and tidy - Erik would decorate. Damiens and Mattgews were stuffed with plushness- clean but not tidy. Sams is the messiest
• They let Matthew try an energy drink once... they never let him again.
• If nights were really bad, Damien would go stay with one of his brothers (mainly either Matthew or Sam since the older ones were always busy and they weren't allowed near) They would stay up with him and talk or try to think of other things to drown out the rest of it all. In the human world if he had a bad nightmare or anything, he'd still get up and go and talk to one of his brothers.
• (this one's based off an old video I made + I'll be using Sam for this one, cause Cannon route)
After the party the boys saw what Mikas dad was like and how tense Mika was during the event. So after the party Sam approached Mika to ask if she was okay. She thought he was talking about Malix for a moment but then he says that She was tense and acting not like herself during the party; that he knows a thing or two about a shitty dad and that he's here if she wants to talk.
• During the party the boys would give Mika small encouragements/ comfort throughout the night whenever they saw the opportunity. Matthew would come to her with extra snacks, or they would distract guests when she needed a break from questions.
• Micheala explained "Soul Marks" and I joked that they're a magic equivalent of a Hickey. So after Mika and [one of the brothers] did it - or they fed off her - they knewww and teased the brother about it.
• Erik wasn't prepared for Mika to flirt back
• The tags that Sam through away ultimately went into the Anderson Mansion. Mika found them (she was younger at this time) and gave them to Harold. They had demon magic energy on it, which Harold could sence. He dropped Mika off early to investigate it more
• One night, Sam and Mika hung out on the roof until the stars came out. Mika pointed out the constellations she knew
• James and Erik had to help the other 3 with their ties (+ the MC if they're played as male)
• Whenever the boys would pine for Mika, Damien had to sit and suffer in silence as he heard their nervous thoughts
• Since Mika was one of the boys first they probably did most of their 'exploring' with her.
• When the incubrothers learned they could never really tell her dad about what they were, they were a little upset - especially Sam. (Damien didn't have much of a problem with it since he wants to be human - and turns - anway)
• The Brothers quickly made Monopoly a forbidden game
• Damien adores his hair being played with and has fallen sleep because of it multiple times
•Matthew and Damiens hair gets frizzy/Curly in humid/rain weather
.
⚠️The next lot of headcannons are based on the more heavier topics of the game and involve Trigger Warnings such as abuse and assault, please proceed with caution:
• After James asked Mika how she got the bruise on her cheek and she brushed it off, no way he didn't know. James knew immediately and knew not to push further. Damien also knew - due to mind reading.
- Damien also dissociated a little after "seeing/hearing" what had happened to Mika.
• In the first flashback In the first game it notes that Damien hid behind Sam... I headcannon that Sam defended Damien from their father a lot. It would normally end in violence since Sam "defyed" his father. But he would also take blame for something that Damien did so he wouldn't get hurt getting in trouble. Sam would also beat up any imps that messed with him.
• Sometimes after being forced to mentally hear his mother and father, Damien go into sever panic attacks and didn't want to be touched and lashed out at imps that tried to 'control' him. These were the worst of them but the brothers knew how to handle it.

Thinking a lot about Mary moving on…
I love how it was handled, for although while the ghosts talked about it a fair bit, I didn’t actually think the show would go there, and I think it was portrayed really well. It makes sense for Mary’s character development, especially given that she mentions in 2x4 that she ‘dreamed of the day when [she] would be sucked off’ which makes this a happy ending for her, but it still hurts so much, and I don’t think i have even fully accepted it yet.
I am a bit unsure as to whether her moving on was something that almost randomly occurred or whether it was due to the fact that she was healing from her trauma in a ‘unfinished business’ type way. I am leaning more towards the former just because of the actual timing of her moving on, although it did happen quite shortly after some huge character growth and development within the season.
I do love the thought that her healing and sharing her trauma and finding her voice led to her moving on, but the implications of that are very hard to accept, because it means that any growth or development of the characters could lead to their eventual sucking off, and that is so hard to think about. It implies that the Captain learning to let go and express his emotions and accept his sexuality will mean that he will move on, or Kitty coming to terms and accepting how her sister actually treated her and finding a new family in the ghosts leading to her moving on, and that is so overwhelming to think about because I really don’t want any more of the ghosts to move on. I know it is an inevitability with the actual rules set within the show, but I really love these characters and I would hate for them to not exist anymore.
If moving on is a more random process, which I am inferring it is given how it just *happens*, then it means that none of the ghosts will necessarily move on if they change and grow and develop, which is comforting because I really want to see them all learn and develop without the knowledge that all this change is bringing them closer to not-existing, because I feel like that means I can’t enjoy their character development as much, or appreciate how they are all growing as people. I want each ghost to personally grow, but also to be able to sit and exist with the growth without it meaning that they have to leave the world behind for good.
Mary was, in my opinion, the perfect character to move on, not only because of her amazing recent character development but also because of Annie, because Annie was her best friend in a way that none of the other ghosts were, and so in a way it felt right for Mary to go with Annie. Also while I am sure a lot of ghosts would like to move on (probably Robin especially, definitely not Thomas tho), Mary has explicitly stated her desire to move on, which makes me happy for her since she got her desire, even though it is terribly painful to watch. Being a ghost is it’s own specific form of torturous existence, but it also allows the ghosts another shot, and they have become a family together, and I really don’t want to see anyone else move on.

Another thing that gets me about the reaction to the Kenobi series and especially Reva and Obi-Wan as characters is that like... Star Wars has always, literally ALWAYS, portrayed toxic masculinity as bad. This isn’t new. It’s not some weird modern hippie liberal agenda whatever, it’s literally been there from the very first movie.
The bad guys are tough and silent and threatening, they wear helmets or emotionless expressions, and the only emotion they ever show is anger. Vader is the epitome of this, obviously, but even someone like Tarkin--the only flash of emotion we ever see from him is anger when he finds out that Leia lied. The Empire is toxic masculinity on a mass scale. No emotion, no affection, no tears, just domination and violence and the kind of “strength” that’s all show, no substance.
The good guys? Luke cares--about the droids, about the girl he’s only seen in a hologram, about the Rebellion, about Ben, about everything. That’s ultimately what drives him, and what makes him a hero. He’s a good pilot and he’s got Jedi powers, but he’s not all-powerful, and a huge part of why he succeeds in the end is that he trusts his feelings. That thing that according to toxic masculinity, he’s not even supposed to have. And he’s only there in the first place because he cares.
The guys are allowed to be physically affectionate with each other. Han ruffling Chewie’s fur, Luke and Han running at each other to hug--not a manly clap on the back, a full-on genuine hug--Han ruffling Luke’s hair, Chewie ruffling Han’s hair, Lando attack-hugging Han, etc, etc. They’re allowed to be upset, they lose fights without anyone (including the audience) thinking less of them, they get hurt and need help and that’s okay. Luke and Han need rescuing just as much as Leia does, maybe more, and again, that’s okay.
Han is a telling example too, because he starts off not caring. And we don’t get some long-winded story full of manpain about why he’s so cynical. The story doesn’t need it, because you only need that when you’ve emotionally crippled your male heroes to the point where all they can express is anger and one single manly tear as they brood about how tough they have it.
Instead, Han just gets called out for his selfishness, and is irrelevant to the narrative the moment he decides to leave; he only gets to be in the story again once he decides to do the right thing. Because this story isn’t very interested in why someone is selfish; it’s about choosing to do the right thing no matter what you’ve been through. It’s shamelessly, enthusiastically idealistic anfd hopeful. And completely uninterested in broody manpain when there are so many more interesting emotions and dynamics to explore.
The prequels are slightly different in that they explore the theme with a bit more nuance. It’s not straight-up good vs evil. We see that the Jedi have some issues when it comes to allowing emotions--and it leads to problems.
Anakin is literally the poster boy for what happens when you tell a guy to control his feelings without actually teaching him how. Anakin fell to the Dark Side because he wasn’t allowed to love, to feel attachment, to care to the extent that he did. All those “soft” emotions that ended up being Luke’s strength were ones that Anakin was told to “control”, aka suppress. And the Dark Side only allows anger, the emotion that the Sith think makes you “stronger” because it feels strong. Like, they could not spell the metaphor for toxic masculinity out more clearly.
Reva falls right into the established “bad guy” mold that Star Wars has literally always had. Stoic, unfriendly, emotionless, the only feeling she’s allowed to express is anger. She works alone. In her world, needing help is weakness, caring is weakness, being hurt is weakness. Her gender is irrelevant. If you’re a bad guy in Star Wars, especially an Imperial, then you fall into that mold. That’s how it works.
And on the other side is Obi-Wan, a good guy, who takes Leia’s hand and offers her a reassuring touch when she needs it. He can’t show all of his emotions because some things have to stay secret, but he very much feels them, and they’re what motivates him, they drive his actions. There’s no toxic masculinity there. No toughing it out. No anger. He’s hurt, and he cares, and he needs and asks for help, and that’s okay. It doesn’t make him weak, it makes him stronger.
That’s not new, it’s not some cool innovative new thing and it’s not some new political (??) statement or whatever, it’s just new (and old) characters slotting into the established system. They could not be clearer about this, and it’s been right there in the story from day 1. If this is new to you, you haven’t been paying attention.
