Pregnancy after loss// When I fell pregnant again after my first loss, unlike my first pregnancy, I didn’t plan for the future. I wanted to protect my heart. I was simply trying to make it through to the next day, still being pregnant. I created coping mechanisms for myself to help me during my pregnancy. I did this every pregnancy. I had 3 miscarriages, a successful twin pregnancy and then a successful single pregnancy. For my last pregnancy, it didn’t matter that I knew my body could carry a pregnancy to term, the worry was still there. To help with my worry I would see my GP weekly for reassurance. She was so lovely and could tell I needed a little extra care outside of my OB appointments. Each visit I had with her she would let me hear the baby’s heartbeat. Hearing that was amazing, letting me know it was all ok. That sounds helped me get through another day, but it did not stop the worry, I would still second guess every little thing that happened. I remember thinking, ‘oh I don’t feel that sick today-oh no that’s not good’, ‘oh no, I worked too hard today, something is going to go wrong’, ‘oh no, I didn’t drink enough water today, something is going to go wrong’. I was forever waiting for ........ - the pain to start - the bleeding to start - the words, “I’m sorry there is no heartbeat” For me that worry never left, not until Baby was in my arms.
