(Source is a Dexerto article)
Normally i wouldn't comment on leak/rumor stuff because there's always a chance of it being fake and it's better to wait when something is confirmed but the idea of Doomguy ever being in Mortal Kombat is interesting.
He's an iconic character that somehow wasn't in a fighting game yet and both Doom and MK are iconic gaming franchises with roles in videogame violence.
(And i guess both series having digitized real stuff like actors/models being used for graphics or Midway)
I do hope that Doom's portrayal comes off as "series celeberation" in a way and not just based on Eternal.
That was fine in Fortnite because it's clear crossovers there are either promotions or for the sake of memes i guess.
And with Smash, most people had low expectations and accepted the Mii outfit (Which also had the 2016 pistol).
Though you look at how Smash fused both Snakes to represent MGS and a certain mod i don't shut up about and you'll kinda get why i bring this up.
It did made me think: If Doomguy was in a 2D fighting game before, would that serve as reference for a potential Smash moveset?
(Probably not)
Something kinda funny is how people said Eternal's gore was too cartoony/safe yet with the recent MK games, there's people saying they're too realistic/have too much focus and then there's stories of devs being forced to look at real gore for reference (Like with TLOU2).
I remember seeing someone say Doomguy could be an Xbox exclusive as MS' response to when MK 2011 had Kratos in the PS3.
That did reminded me of how Halo in fightning games was either the Arbiter in Killer Instinct or an original female character in Dead or Alive (SPARTAN-458).
(I guess Chief was in Brawlhalla now that i think about it)
(I do still think a Halo and Doom crossover should be an FPS)
I can also see some people not like the idea of Doomguy being "ripped and torned" by other characters because "he's supposed to be the strongest".
Even though 2016 had first person death animations, Eternal brought back the pain noises and you know, classic bloody face, pain sounds etc.
Why else do you think Duke Nukem called him a "Doomed" space marine?
I wonder what a trailer will be like: Imagine a basic sprite animation based off the older MK games where Scorpion's about to do a fatality on Sub-zero before a BFG9000 shows up and kills him instead and then it switches to modern graphics/designs so Scorpion faces up Doomguy.

Ermac just looks weird without a face mask, though I will admit that out of all the returning characters, I didn't expect Takeda to make the roster.
As he was pretty much ignored in Mortal Kombat 11, but hey, he's still more compelling than Cole.

New info about Mortal Kombat 1's story like how Mileena's Tarkatan traits are part of a disease she has and that Scorpion and Sub-Zero are now brothers!
Along with liking that one of my ideas from my MK1 idea literature has come true, I'm intrigued by the new direction they will be going with for the long time rivals.
Though brothers, I can still seem them going though my plot point idea of them being tricked into trying to kill one another, but now I can see the moment when they realize they were set up and go after the real perks, happening sooner.
What are your thoughts on this news?

Few more observations about Doomguy and Mortal Kombat:
Doomguy's meathook pulls him toward enemies, making it a reverse to Scorpion's iconic spear that pulls fighters to him.
I also recall a project remaking MK2 i think in GZDoom, kinda like when there was a fanremake of Donkey Kong Country.
youtube
Then there's some mods that let you play as MK characters or fight them as Doomguy in traditional FPS action (I think this last one was in Doom Center since you had the Street Fighter stage where you fought E Honda).

Also that rumor mentions Harley Quinn as well, which reminded me of the mod Disaster Jester by LossForWords where you play as Harley.
Not sure if there's like an alt HUD face based on the Bruce Timm design tho.

'MORTAL KOMBAT 1' - REVIEW ROUNDUP!
If you're fighting an inner battler on whether 'Mortal Kombat 1' needs to be done, and you need a shove to push you some, then our review score roundup below is where you need to go!
The big names have had their say and are mostly in agreement that it'd be a fatality to miss it...
Dexerto - 5/5
"Mortal Kombat 1 not only reboots its own universe but everything you know and love about fighting games. The way a story is told and how it’s presented. It shows that it listens to its fans and does so by refining its addictive gameplay with noticeable nuances and then slapping on a new Kameo system that serves as more of a game-changer than a game-breaker."
IGN - 8/10
"The bone-crunching gameplay of Mortal Kombat 1 is some of the best the series has ever seen, thanks to the game-changing Kameo system. Netherrealm delivers a fantastic single-player story mode as well. However, the new Invasions mode is a grind and the online options feel dated."
GamesRadar - 5/5
"Despite lacking a few of the additional modes the series is known for, the content on offer throughout Mortal Kombat 1 is all brilliant fun. Regardless of whether you are a casual MK fan, someone looking to get into the series, or a competitive player looking to hit this game until whatever numbered Mortal Kombat is next drops, you're going to find an exceptional, confident fighting game."
TheSixthAxis - 8/10
"Mortal Kombat 1 serves as a love letter to fans of this thirty-one-year-old franchise and as a pseudo-reboot it also has potential appeal to newcomers alike. There's still room to grow and I'm sure it will just keep getting better, but Mortal Kombat 1 is already definitely worth your time."
GodIsAGeek - 10/10
"Mortal Kombat 1 is one of the greatest fighters of all time, with plenty of modes for players to get stuck into, and lots of customisation items that are easily acquired through playing and progressing. The story is the finest in the series, made even better with some fantastic acting (apart from the fairly wooden Megan Fox) and visuals that elevate both the series and the current generation of consoles."
GameInformer - 9/10
"When the first Mortal Kombat debuted more than 30 years ago, the series quickly became known for its trademark blood, gore, and violence. While that is still at the forefront thanks to Mortal Kombat 1’s Fatal Blows, Brutalities, and, of course, Fatalities, the longer the series has gone on, the longer it has rightfully become just as known for its genre-leading approach to single-player content and incredibly tight fighting mechanics. In making strides in both areas, Mortal Kombat 1 moves the series forward to continue what has already been a terrific year for the genre."

In my opinion, Mortal Kombat 1 is one of the best fighting games of 2023. It has a great story along with a cast of amazing characters each having a unique design as well as fighting styles.
