idc what people are whining abt, i actually really enjoyed the netflix avatar series. the costume and set design was really beautiful, the effects were great, the performances were great. i think people are weirded out about the pacing and i understand that, but at the same time, they're working on netflix's budget and i think they did a great job utilizing the important material in book 1 to tell as well rounded of a story as they possibly could. and like sure, i get that it was jarring to see them start at the VERY beginning instead of starting w katara and sokka finding aang like the original show does for ex, but like. idk! i think they shouldn't feel obligated to hit every plot point beat for beat and i don't think we lost anything by establishing aang's background early on. actually, every single scene with master gyatso made me fucking bawl lol. aang's loss is soooo much more palpable in this show than the original one imo bc it lingers on that pain a lot more. there were a few story choices that kinda made me scratch my head a bit, like the fact that teo wasn't introduced as part of the new Northern Air Temple population and what effects that had on aang, but i'm really not mad about it. anyways i give it two big thumbs up and i hope it gets renewed for another season

thoughts on "tradwives" as a 19th-century social historian
It's great until it's not.
It's great until he develops an addiction and starts spending all the money on it.
It's great until you realize he's abusive and hid it long enough to get you totally in his power (happened to my great-great-aunt Irene).
It's great until he gets injured and can't work anymore.
It's great until he dies and your options are "learn a marketable skill fast" or "marry the first eligible man you can find."
It's great until he wants child #7 and your body just can't take another pregnancy, but you can't leave or risk desertion because he's your meal ticket.
It's great until he tries to make you run a brothel as a get-rich-quick scheme and deserts you when you refuse, leaving your sisters to desperately fundraise so your house doesn't get foreclosed on (happened to my great-great-aunt Mamie).
It's great until you want to leave but you can't. It's great until you want to do something else with your life but you can't. It's great. Until. It's. Not.
I won't lie to you and say nobody was ever happy that way. Plenty of women have been, and part of feminism is acknowledging that women have the right to choose that sort of life if they want to.
But flinging yourself into it wholeheartedly with no sort of safety net whatsoever, especially in a period where it's EXTREMELY easy for him to leave you- as it should be; no-fault divorce saves lives -is naive at best and dangerous at worst.
Have your own means of support. Keep your own bank account; we fought hard enough to be allowed them. Gods willing, you never need that safety net, but too many women have suffered because they needed it and it wasn't there.

Estelle Vacker and Auberon Dizznee meet when they are going to foxfire, they start dating when they are about 15-16 keep their relationship secret because Etstelle’s family would have a fit.
Auberon’s twin sister Soreya (who went to Hinterland not Foxfire) didn’t like the idea of her brother dating a Vacker because she was worried that her family might get him banished to get away from Estelle, because that had happened to other people in the past. she ended up telling Oriana (the teacher at Hinterland) who tries to talk Auberon out of dating Estelle because he’s talentless and she’s a telepath and a Vacker.
Auberon wasn’t worried because Estelle knew that she would be disowned and didn’t care, she had insisted that her family would never get him banished and Auberon told Oriana this, but she wasn’t convinced.
he proposed to Estelle when she graduated the Elite levels, her family found out, but instead of threatening to disown her, they said they would get Auberon banished just like his sisters said they would. the treats would also include his family as time went on, but Estelle is convinced that it’s just a bluff and continued with the wedding planing. they thought maybe if Estelle got pregnant with his kid her family would have no choice but to let them get married (they where like 20 and very dumb)
that’s not what happened, when her family caught wind of her pregnancy, they conjured up a lie that not only involved Auburn but Soreya as well, to punish him for wasting her first child. about both of them being involved in questionable activities (idk what they are) and made up proof. getting them both banished and causing Auberon’s entire family to hate Estelle because they saw it as her fault.
Estelle was forced to marry her #1 match not even two months later and everyone around her pretend like it was perfectly normal and like Aubron never existed.
Estelle’s new husband was physically, verbally abusive and controlled every aspect of her life, making it so she couldn’t get out because she had no friends. it’s not like elves believe abuse anyways.
she ended up getting pregnant with his twins and when he found out he was furious and caused her to go into labor early, with the twins the boy Marcel ended up with cerebral palsy while the girl Odette, was fine. Marcel couldn’t walk well and was mute, their father called him it and kept in locked in the house not letting anyone know he had a son. while he acted like Odette was his pride and joy at least in public. if she made any sort of mistake he would berate her and tell her to stop acting like a twin unless she wanted to be locked in the house like her brother.
while Marcel was unable to speak he was just as intelligent as ever other child, and his mom knew this because she got in the habit of having Telepathic conversations with the twins to keep them quiet when their father was home.
when the twins where 11 she got pregnant again and had a little girl named Vivianne but they called her Vivi. when she was four she knocked over her fathers work and he smacked her, the screamed at her for crying before throwing her in her room. Marcel heard her crying and came to comfort her. when Odette came home from school Vivi had a bruise on her face so she didn’t have a hard time figuring out what happened to her baby sister.
the twins stayed with Vivi until she fell asleep and decided that instead of telling their mom who they thought was going through enough as is that they would take matters into their own hands.
they found their father in his office and Odette went inside while Marcel stayed outside. Odette knew she was the favorite and thought maybe he loved her enough to listen to her, and stop hurting them. so Odette asked their father why he hit Vivianne, he told them to leave and when they didn’t he started screaming, it escalated to the point that he threw s decoration off his desk at her and hit her in the head drawing blood and causing her to fall to the ground.
Marcel heard her fall and came in the room as quickly as he could to find her bleeding, he was furious and was done with his father treating them the way he did. Marcel wished that he could make his father hurt in all the ways he had hurt his family, he imagined all the things he would do if he could fight if he was bigger, and how much pain he would put his father though. he would make sure he never hurt his mom or sisters again. the images he imagined almost felt real.
he was snapped out of his thoughts by his mom holding his face and transmitting the words “Marcy Stop” over and over into his mind
he snapped out of it to see he father bleeding and unconscious on the floor, and Odette crying on the floor trying next to him get him to wake up.
while he treated her badly her father still acted like he cared about her at times and unlike Marcel she loved him, and didn’t want him to die. as confusing and conflicted it made her feel
this is all i have written in one place atm but it keeps going (i wanna make this a fic)
HOLY SHIT that's so intense oml ;-; yeah this is exactly the type of 'Vacker Legacy' bullshit that family would try and keep covered up huh-
This is so good though, it really shows the issues with letting families and status have so much power and also provides a really interesting dimension to Dex's early books dislike of Fitz.
I love Estelle, Odette, Vivi, and Marcel ;-; lowkey I think Marcel deserves to kill his dad. As a treat.
How do they get along with Fitz Alvar and Biana? What about the rest of the family - like did they all know about Estelle's husband?
Lmao all my hcs for Vacker cousins were 'they're the most unbearable pieces of shit ever' so this is much better

tbh i'm trying to avoid nets twitter like the plague jdfoijfs everything is negative and sean marks is the Worst in the world and nothing's even happened yet. like imo some people on nets twitter are just looking for reasons to hate sean marks and like fuck management and all that but he hasn't actually lost kyrie (and kd) yet so what are they upset about right now? it's like everyone forgets how dramatic every offseason/trade deadline is in the nba every single season lol

we can all look back on and laugh at this when im wrong, but it seems like social media in its current incarnation is dying an undignified and overdue death. it turns out throwing all of humanity into one room and expecting everyone to develop a single ethos was beyond insane conceptually and the artists who built their following on social media are probably in a tail spin right now. people jumping to bluesky are insane lol. did you forget jack dorsey is the idiot who got us into this mess in the first place. why would you choose to subject yourself to this shit again. for what purpose?
the stock answer i got was that "for discoverability/audience" and if that's true thats a problem. i've been hollerin about this to anyone who would listen prior to this but the customer base of twitter (and all social media) is its advertisers. they have not been shy from the start about that fact because its the only way they generate income, as far as i know. YOU (the user) are the product. YOU (still the user) are also what draws people to the site. there is not a social media website on earth that has figured out that making a good website (which would require hiring and paying for quality labor over an extended period of time) is more likely to result in economic success than exclusively courting the businesses whose interest is in making the website worse to use with ads. at no point were our interests ever a factor.
in fact, imo, the number of people following you is not an accurate representational sample of your audience. the reasonable assumption you should make is that the vast majority of numbers involved with any website (esp those with a vested interest in showing off big numbers to VC investors or advertising execs) are inflated or just outright fake. the numbers exist solely to drive you insane and make awful people happy. the numbers cause you and everyone around you to start spontaneously spawning myths about a beast called "the algorithm" that possesses the incredible traits of being both something you can game for success or blame for your failures. it coerces you into enacting out nonsense superstitions to try to counteract or appease it in the hopes of, let's be honest, breaking it big and going viral. this way, you, the creator, do not have to do the hard work of building up a rapport with an audience. none of this goes anything but adds more numbers for the ceos to look at and nod approvingly or disapprovingly at.
the people running the world today are, without exaggeration, cartoon villains. they are deeply stupid, devoid of empathy, and open about their intent to do deeply evil acts in order to further their economic interests. trying to derive some kind of financial benefit from the creations of these unapologetic losers was always bound to be a wasted effort. the best thing i can say about twitter, a website i was banned from countless times and returned to out of stubborn desire, was that i got to make some great jokes with friends and cause some chaos lol. letting people know i have a web comic was always a secondary function once the realization of what social media was turning out to be set in like 7 years ago. any artist who insists that you have to do this or that on this or that social media site is trying to drag you down into the quagmire of online numbers poisoning.
run away!!! children heed my advice!!! the joy of creation does not lie on a path that encourages you to cater to the lowest common denominators while casting your net. just fucking have fun with it. if its not fun then it wont even be fun to do financially anyway. and isnt that, like. the point.

i've been seeing ai takes that i actually agree with and have been saying for months get notes so i want to throw my hat into the ring.
so i think there are two main distinct problems with "ai," which exist kind of in opposition to each other. the first happens when ai is good at what it's supposed to do, and the second happens when it's bad at it.
the first is well-exemplified by ai visual art. now, there are a lot of arguments about the quality of ai visual art, about how it's soulless, or cliche, or whatever, and to those i say: do you think ai art is going to be replacing monet and picasso? do you think those pieces are going in museums? no. they are going to be replacing soulless dreck like corporate logos, the sprites for low-rent edugames, and book covers with that stupid cartoon art style made in canva. the kind of art that everyone thinks of as soulless and worthless anyway. the kind of art that keeps people with art degrees actually employed.
this is a problem of automation. while ai art certainly has its flaws and failings, the main issue with it is that it's good enough to replace crap art that no one does by choice. which is a problem of capitalism. in a society where people don't have to sell their labor to survive, machines performing labor more efficiently so humans don't have to is a boon! this is i think more obviously true for, like, manufacturing than for art - nobody wants to be the guy putting eyelets in shoes all day, and everybody needs shoes, whereas a lot of people want to draw their whole lives, and nobody needs visual art (not the way they need shoes) - but i think that it's still true that in a perfect world, ai art would be a net boon, because giving people without the skill to actually draw the ability to visualize the things they see inside their head is... good? wider access to beauty and the ability to create it is good? it's not necessary, it's not vital, but it is cool. the issue is that we live in a society where that also takes food out of people's mouths.
but the second problem is the much scarier one, imo, and it's what happens when ai is bad. in the current discourse, that's exemplified by chatgpt and other large language models. as much hand-wringing as there has been about chatgpt replacing writers, it's much worse at imitating human-written text than, say, midjourney is at imitating human-made art. it can imitate style well, which means that it can successfully replace text that has no meaningful semantic content - cover letters, online ads, clickbait articles, the kind of stuff that says nothing and exists to exist. but because it can't evaluate what's true, or even keep straight what it said thirty seconds ago, it can't meaningfully replace a human writer. it will honestly probably never be able to unless they change how they train it, because the way LLMs work is so antithetical to how language and writing actually works.
the issue is that people think it can. which means they use it to do stuff it's not equipped for. at best, what you end up with is a lot of very poorly written children's books selling on amazon for $3. this is a shitty scam, but is mostly harmless. the behind the bastards episode on this has a pretty solid description of what that looks like right now, although they also do a lot of pretty pointless fearmongering about the death of art and the death of media literacy and saving the children. (incidentally, the "comics" described demonstrate the ways in which ai art has the same weaknesses as ai text - both are incapable of consistency or narrative. it's just that visual art doesn't necessarily need those things to be useful as art, and text (often) does). like, overall, the existence of these kids book scams are bad? but they're a gnat bite.
to find the worst case scenario of LLM misuse, you don't even have to leave the amazon kindle section. you don't even have to stop looking at scam books. all you have to do is change from looking at kids books to foraging guides. i'm not exaggerating when i say that in terms of texts whose factuality has direct consequences, foraging guides are up there with building safety regulations. if a foraging guide has incorrect information in it, people who use that foraging guide will die. that's all there is to it. there is no antidote to amanita phalloides poisoning, only supportive care, and even if you survive, you will need a liver transplant.
the problem here is that sometimes it's important for text to be factually accurate. openart isn't marketed as photographic software, and even though people do use it to lie, they have also been using photoshop to do that for decades, and before that it was scissors and paintbrushes. chatgpt and its ilk are sometimes marketed as fact-finding software, search engine assistants and writing assistants. and this is dangerous. because while people have been lying intentionally for decades, the level of misinformation potentially provided by chatgpt is unprecedented. and then there are people like the foraging book scammers who aren't lying on purpose, but rather not caring about the truth content of their output. obviously this happens in real life - the kids book scam i mentioned earlier is just an update of a non-ai scam involving ghostwriters - but it's much easier to pull off, and unlike lying for personal gain, which will always happen no matter how difficult it is, lying out of laziness is motivated by, well, the ease of the lie.* if it takes fifteen minutes and a chatgpt account to pump out fake foraging books for a quick buck, people will do it.
*also part of this is how easy it is to make things look like high effort professional content - people who are lying out of laziness often do it in ways that are obviously identifiable, and LLMs might make it easier to pass basic professionalism scans.
and honestly i don't think LLMs are the biggest problem that machine learning/ai creates here. while the ai foraging books are, well, really, really bad, most of the problem content generated by chatgpt is more on the level of scam children's books. the entire time that the internet has been shitting itself about ai art and LLM's i've been pulling my hair out about the kinds of priorities people have, because corporations have been using ai to sort the resumes of job applicants for years, and it turns out the ai is racist. there are all sorts of ways machine learning algorithms have been integrated into daily life over the past decade: predictive policing, self-driving cars, and even the youtube algorithm. and all of these are much more dangerous (in most cases) than chatgpt. it makes me insane that just because ai art and LLMs happen to touch on things that most internet users are familiar with the working of, people are freaking out about it because it's the death of art or whatever, when they should have been freaking out about the robot telling the cops to kick people's faces in.
(not to mention the environmental impact of all this crap.)

// end of sports season edition:
—breakfast • choose between:

dunkin refresher w/ green tea: 130 cals (bomb for a medium imo)
chia seed pudding (little to no toppings): 100 cals
✰ celsius: 10 cals
—lunch • ✰ ✰ ✰
[i have block scheduling so i have a 25 min free period in between my hour long classes so i usually eat about 2 cups of AIR-POPPED/ORGANIC popcorn, which is ab 70 cals yet rlly satisfying, and then skip lunch or eat little bits of my friends’ food]
diet coke: 0 cals (if i’m feeling snacky)
—after school snack • choose ONE:
✰ peppermint tea: 0 cals
tomato & basil rice cake: 50 cals
gum: 0-5 cals

~DO NOT FALL INTO TEMPTATION AND HAVE SOMETHING YOU KNOW YOU SHOULDN’T~
—dinner •
~keep it simple, go for what you know is better for you, and if you’re forced to eat something, make the portion SMALL or come up with a really good excuse on why it revolts you~
—dessert • choose between: (NOT ALWAYS)
cookie dough coconut milk ice cream: 190 cals (1/2cup)
yasso bar: 80-100 (FAVS)
fruit w/ yogurt: about 100 cals
★ ★ ★ if you have had under 400 net cals by the end of dinner, you may have dessert. otherwise, no, not by freewill at least.
:I’m literally just making these for myself so i remember but i hate spreading my disordered thoughts with yall 😭 i only want the best for everyone else, i’m okay with suffering lolll

scouring your blog for more characterisation on lando/oscar dynamic.... the not correcting mispronunciations blew my mind wide open. do you have any other wise takes
hello anon :3 pretty sure i've mentioned all of this in some capacity b4 and much has been covered in depth by greater scholars than myself but here are some 814 charactization quirks i'm fond of ↓
oscar resignedly accepting his own attraction to lando but choosing not to act on it because well..... it is what it is. in his mind being 4 tenths off his teammate is a more immediately pressing matter than lando fake moaning from an icebath 2 feet away [clenched fists]
lando subtly looking out for oscar, especially march-may of last year because he distinctly remembers his own rookie season (see: the "it's a lot, isn't it" exchange in the melbourne unboxed, giving oscar endless opportunities to redeem himself in challenges etc). i think part of it was him not knowing how much of oscar's quietness was a factor of the explosive feeder series to f1 jump and how much is his actual personality but wanting him to feel comfortable either way. also just lando being endlessly curious about this guy who is just a guy... because oscar is lowkey a lot funnier (to lando) than the general public's flat/boring diagnosis gives him credit for
a sort of blase level of comfort and wordless communication (see: virgin radio with zak brown) and also in general communicating via just. noises (the yes/no challenge is an esp egregious example of this like why are u bleating at each other. nvm) to borrow an oscar term here: they're low-frequency! bc while lando has a tendency to match the energy of whoever he's with (vs oscar who's pretty much always the same lol) imo at their core 814 are both different flavours of introverts so when they're together it's just kinda. chill
oscar being deeply tolerant of all of lando's idiosyncrasies and even assimilating to his rhythm... eating the same pre-race meal as lando/changing his answer's to match lando's in the who's most likely to vid/listening to lando's music through their shared wall/"are you ready oscar piastri" "i'm ready lando norris"... insanity
a measurable give and take because as indulgent as oscar can be he will rib lando and give him if not a hard time certainly A Time. basically oscar having a spine... but also bending to lando's whims... it's a fine balance
rating each other as drivers...... sure oscar is a well-socialized young man who can (occasionally) pretend net competence has a lot of moving parts and lando genuinely likes a lot of people he doesn't rate (real) but when it boils down to it the fact that they both think v highly of the others' skill as drivers (oscar constantly calling lando one of the quickest guys on the grid, lando saying his recent run of form is in part due to oscar being good enough in his own right to push him, "i mean, he already is") adds a whole new layer of intrigue. bc even when they get along there's that undercurrent of caution/what's he gonna do next/etc and who kneowsss how this aspect of their relationahip is going to evolve over the next three (3!!!) years together as teammates but i for one can't wait to watch :')
they barely (if ever) touch. compelling 2 Me

your fav mello/near fics??? thank yeww (also love your drawings!)
oohh this reminds me i should pick up my ff.net archival reclist project up again...
it is of note that it's been a looooong while since i've combed the archives and there's a couple of common tropes i don't usually read due to personal taste, so i'm sure there's a lot of good fic i'm unaware of and/or forgetting about! this has totally renewed my interest in making a comprehensive personal reclist >:) perhaps i'll come back and edit this post every now and then.
i owe comments to nearly everyone mentioned here i am SO sorry. it's a lost skill that i am working on developing again. at the very least i've got everyone in one place so i can go down the list this year. i encourage everyone reading from this reclist to leave a comment too!
i wrote "off the top of my head" but this got VERY long so under the readmore it goes
obligatory classics
• the famous @tierfal 's sidetracked (2010) and full of surprises (2009). rated e and m respectively. these are like the allegorical little black dress in the wardrobe of the platonic ideal of the mellonear oneshot. seem to be pretty well known across the ship fandom • stripped (2009) by blueberryash/@tka-trashfire on tumblr. explicit. i haven't read this in a while but i remember it capturing the delicate gossamer tension of the ship in a way that was sooo bittersweet and nostalgic. • to speak of rules and privilege (2008) also by blueberryash/@tka-trashfire, gen, a manifesto on tenderness, soooooooooo soft, changed the game, near being afraid of thunderstorms was immediately adopted into personal canon. big time influence for the way i write near and mello's pre-canon relationship re: big brother, little brother. • an understanding (2008) by blueberryash/@tka-trashfire, rated T, short and sweet, razor sharp prose, the aesthetics of the little piece live rent free in my head. • dual(2011) by ramasi, @ramasi here i believe. rated m. historians say this might be one of the first examples of mellonear choking kink ever recorded,
•scarification (2012) by gacrux11 on fanfiction.net, rated m, big time dead dove do not eat. sorry this one leans early 2010s era grimdark melodrama but i love it sjkdfkjfd. not enough dead dove fics about the boys if u ask me. • salt in the wound (2007) •tempus fugit (2007), and • white out (2006) by vaudevillain king on fanfiction. net. a beloved rare find. all of them are rather grimdark edgy products of their era, but some of the best the era had to offer. they make me so nostalgic for my teenagehood on fanfiction.net. i get the impression these might've been written even before death note was finished? • birthday smut (2009) by kleine_aster on livejournal. explicit. this one is SO funny to me because it is both really, really good, very in character, but unfortunately it suffers from almost satirical misogyny that afflicted fujoshis back in the day. near literally is like oh that bitch... like. he would not fucking think that but i can edit quickly in my brain as i read. bisexual mello rights! otherwise really sexy imo. i might be writing something that's kind of in conversation with this fic.
RARE finds
(please tell me if you enjoy any of these, i want to feel like an explorer that's brought back treasures from far away lands)
contemporary favorites:
• you've heard about it before and you will hear about it again: the archer ensnared (2023) by jabbernatty, rated e. a jessaerys obligatory syllabus read, the fic that made me go fulltime yaoi disease. i owe so much to jabbernatty they are my white whale my friend my enemy the writer i've psychically imprinted on from the beginning. honestly too scared to even leave a comment given the jessarys archer ensnared lore. may one day may contact and pray i don't come across as insane • postmortem (2023) by the_hemlock true gen, a favorite of ALL time. it's only tangentially mn really, it is 99% about near trying to piece together the mystery of lawlight post-canon, but the characterization and prose are some of if not the best i've ever come across. reads like it could be a piece of canon material. if you only read one fic on this list i'd pick postmortem. • it's friday i'm in love by neallo/@neallo rated m. possibly my all time fave in the neallo cinematic universe. something about the after-hours longing and the standing in the kitchen by the refrigerator lights, as the poets say. i love when stories feel like you're cutting out a window to peer into a larger universe that is just out of reach. perfectly captures what it is like to have a maddening crush • i want to hold you (hostage)(2023) by neallo/@neallo rated e. thee defining fic of this current modern mellonear era. manages to walk the line of kinky/sexy/sweet/fluffy all at once. plot twist of the century in the last chapter. near is properly as bananas insane as mello is in this fic, which is the marker of a good mellonear dynamic. really everything by morgan neallo is a safe bet for a great read • there's nothing i want but you (2023) by neallo/@neallo rated t. wammy's era mellonear obsessiveness that is soooo teenagery and yet a portent of just how codependent they might one day get. cute and ominous. • armageddon/kill game (2024) by bolide/@bolide-archive came out of nowhere a couple of months ago and ascended to the top of the game like a dark horse. rated m, chess au. one of my favorite interior mello narrations and one of the most similar to my own interpretation. such naturally talented prose. i rotate lines from this in my head all the time. still in progress but i have faith that it will be completed :') • how to burn down the sacred loom (2023) by dornishviper/@vriskarlmarx a contemporary CLASSIC. the less you know going in the better. beautiful prose, beautiful structure. they don't make fic like this anymore • the house always wins (2023) by mer_curia/@vivi-scera. screaming with my mouth closed. holds a special place in my heart given that it is my posting that convinced vi to give the ship a try, and i was rewarded with a fic that is so catered to my tastes i honestly had to read it through my fingers. SO good, the manifesto on wammyscest, so rather controversial. heed the warnings. • moonlight (2023) by tsukinousagi/@quicktimeeventfull rated t. an austere, cold little glimpse into a vampire au. it's giving let the right one in. so melancholic. one of the saddest near examinations out there. •proximity tells (2018) by abysmallypresent, rated m. truly lives up to death note's second-by-second minutia while managing to keep up the tension the entire time. great characterization. •silhouettes (2015) by bad blood/eroticcodependence, @wxmmyshouse on tumblr. unrated, post-canon compliant. made me CRY! elegantly short and simple, bittersweet and so so wistful. •arsonist's lullabye (2023) by tzviaariella/@tzviaariella. rated t. this one has a heart-wrenching air of realism to it that exists outside the chaotic universe of death note, one of those examinations of picking up the pieces after the titans have all gone away. very bittersweet.
honorary mentions
• let's die somewhere prettier (2020) by firesafinething also one of my absolute favorites, unfortunately it is discontinued and it is likely it will never be completed. sad! the premise seemed SO promising. in my mind i file it right next to postmortem mentioned above. the exploration of the tragedy of 27 year old near we could have had in a better timeline. one day i will leave a comment so good maybe it will bring back the fic from the land of the dead • august underground by me & @firebuggg rated e, in progress. >:) (shamless self promo)

The push and pull between Alhaitham and Kaveh would be absolutely maddening, IMO. I love how the dynamic you've crafted. Like, Kaveh would hate to see Alhaitham punishing you with a belting, buuut it does push you into Kaveh's arms so nicely. Sure, it's hard to hear your cries after Alhaitham puts you over his knee and belts you thoroughly--but the way you run to Kaveh at the first opportunity after, letting him wipe away your tears, get you an ice pack for your ass... there is a bright side.
cw: captive reader, physical punishment, manipulation, belting, yandere, dub-con, non-con.
He knows he should do something. In the grand scheme of things, the infraction against Alhaitham's rules that had gotten you this punishment was not all that heinous. You had done worse things - and, in fact, had sometimes even managed to talk your way out of worse things, Alhaitham wanting to reward your rationality and sensible things you said, instead of letting your emotions guide you.
But . . .
Ah. He hates seeing you like this, your face all tear-stained and your lips swollen, the robes that Alhaitham lets you wear around the house - nothing more substantial, because you would surely be less inclined to escape if you were too embarassed to step foot outside the door even if you could - discarded to one side, your body bare. Alhaitham, for all he professes to be a feeble scholar, is more than capable of wresting you down and having you bent over his knee, the tender flesh of your rump on display for both men to see.
You shoot Kaveh an agonised look, your lovely mouth trembling, your entire body a tightly wound line of tension. This will not be the first time that Alhaitham has belted you, but that does not mean Kaveh wants to see it. That he enjoys seeing it.
No. Kaveh does not enjoy the physical punishment that Alhaitham inflicts, insistent that it's a perfectly valid way to teach you lessons and that you learning pain comes hand in hand with disobedience is the greatest training he can employ and the most sensible course of action. He has to be there for it, because despite it all Alhaitham is the landlord and in charge of such matters as this. He wants Kaveh to see just how his effective methods net positive results, in the hope Kaveh will take a leaf out of his book - but Kaveh does not have to enjoy the sight of you bent over the scribe's lap, the thwack of fine leather against your soft vulnerable parts, the hiccup of pain that echoes around the room as Alhaitham waits patiently for you to count the strikes aloud.
Physical violence does not arouse the architect. He feels bad for you; knows that he will toss and turn tonight remembering the desperation you'd looked at him with when all Kaveh could do was give you a sympathetic smile, a twitch of his brows.
But for all of that, when Alhaitham is done with you and is buckling his belt again with a curt; "I hope you'll remember this lesson next time," Kaveh feels the briefest thrill of excitement. Alhaitham takes himself off - presumably to do something about the tent in his trousers, because the scribe does at least understand that having you in that way right now wouldn't be good with you associating intimacy with anything positive - and you stay on your hands and knees for a moment, trembling, before you sniffle and look up at Kaveh with the prettiest gaze he's ever seen. Diamonds glittering on your lashes, your bottom lip a wobbling pout that he longs to kiss.
Kaveh takes the opportunity to swoop.
A hand carding over your hair, wiping your tears, soft hushings falling from his mouth as his thumb catches another tear before it can fall.
"I know, darling," Kaveh murmurs to you, pulling you into him. It's no time at all until you're curled in his lap, your head pressed beneath his chin. You do not even reach for your robe as you would if he were Alhaitham, a hundred times more comfortable with Kaveh than with anyone else. He presses a soft, chaste kiss to the top of your head and breathes in the scent of your hair, remembering how it smelt on his pillows. "I'm sorry he's such a brute to you."
"H-he's awful to you, too," you whimper out, as if the situations are in any way comparable. But Kaveh just gives you a sympathetic smile, another stroke, his arm tightening around you as if he can draw you in from the horrors of the world. You trust him implicitly, a situation he has carefully manipulated by sighing and occasional drops about his life, by listening to you when you sob and hesitantly admit things to him. By bringing you sweet treats that go against Alhaitham's wishes (he has a nutritious meal plan in place for you; treats are supposed to be earned, and you are not at all obedient enough for him to want to give you Padisarah Pudding just yet). By being there, by being an artist with a tender heart and saying to you how much he wishes he could help, but he too is under Alhaitham's thumb or he'd have no home at all-- "Kaveh--"
"I know," he soothes, letting one of his hands gently trace your spine, a touch that is intimate and affectionate and everything that Alhaitham is not. Your body presses against him in desperate search of his comfort.
"H-he's going to make me sleep in the cage again," you whisper to him, you eyes downcast. "H-he'll say he can't trust me whilst he's sleeping."
A twist in his heart that he hates to admit is triumph. You're always desperate after a night spent in the large cage Alhaitham had procured when he'd first brought you here. You suffer from night terrors already, but locked in those iron bars with nobody to press your body against - you're so needy for affection you'll practically initiate carnality yourself. Kaveh is always careful never to push you on that, and so when you do need it, if only to remind yourself you're still human . . . you always come to him, and not Alhaitham.
The scribe has tossed him a bone without even meaning to.
"You poor thing," Kaveh murmurs instead, sighing. You wince as you shift, the bruises and welts that are forming on your bottom clearly already causing you pain. "I'll get you an ice pack, yes? And I'll sneak you something sweet?"
Your fists clench into his shirt as if he's the only thing in the whole world you can hold onto.
And though he knows he should hate it, should resent himself for manipulating you like this, he cannot bring himself to do so.

I've read several opinions about whether Yashiro realized that Doumeki loves him or not. It's so complicated and confusing. What do you think?
I think that is the big mystery now with ch 56. I personally don’t think Yashiro recognizes Doumeki loves him. I think a major part of his character arc is overcoming the fear of rejection and vulnerability and I still think that even after ch 56. Yashiro has basically confessed, indirect or not, and Doumeki didn’t reciprocate. Doumeki may have kissed him but that still leaves questions for Yashiro like does Doumeki still love him? Does Doumeki still want to be with just Yashiro? Is Izumi Doumeki’s girlfriend and Yashiro just a way for him to get off? Doumeki was still avoiding giving Yashiro answers so I can’t see Yashiro all of a sudden thinking Doumeki loves him with his non answers. I think Yashiro’s bravery in confessing and Doumeki kissing him in reaction will enable Yashiro to take more risks. I always thought Yashiro will be the one to take more of a lead and eventually have to chase after Doumeki a bit. I also always thought that he would be the one who gets rid of Inami and Misumi. Since one of the reasons he pushes Doumeki away was the fear of vulnerability and losing his facade, imo he needs to do those things without the guarantee that Doumeki will be with him in the end. I think sometimes we can expect Doumeki to be the security net/prize for Yashiro which I think is unfair to Doumeki considering his past with Yashiro. It is more meaningful for Yashiro to let go of his lustful neko facade (Inami) and pursue the things he wants without feeling sure Doumeki will be there at the end. I think we should give Yashiro a break if he doesn’t recognize Doumeki loves him because, to be fair, Doumeki is very good at hiding his feelings and he is alot better at it than Yashiro was at hiding/controlling his feelings for Doumeki. Maybe my answer got complicated as well haha

You know what time it is baby!!!
(Tbb new episodes spoilers)
- “domicile”???????????????? If that fucker isn’t Tech (it absolutely is) then I don’t know what….
-they wouldn’t have brought Phee into this if she weren’t going to get a reunion with Tech (and she’s def gonna give him a smooch)
-Like, this is prime Chekov’s Gun material.
- The constant zooming in on his eyes (and how Tech’s helmet was the only one where you could see his eyes when it was on)
-I can’t imagine how gut wrenching it would have been for Crosshair to hand Omega over. And then to miss that shot…
Prediction - the special operative is going to do the Tech-turn, which will either let Omega on to who he is, or it will happen very close to when he is fully revealed to be Tech
I’m casting a wide net here so excuse me, but this is all in good fun.
Prediction - Now I’m not rooting for this one, it’s less of a prediction and more of a fear of it coming true: I have a bad feeling that either Crosshair or Hunter is going to end up making the ultimate sacrifice for Omega. Now, one might argue that that’s not necessary for this show. And I would wholeheartedly agree with them and support that argument. Again this is not a prediction I hope comes true, it more of a fear. But Hunter and Crosshair are kind of the two most similar Bad Batchers. And, I could absolutely be incorrect here, but Crosshair is actually the only one anyone has ever assumed to be Omega’s father. I think he and Hunter are toe to toe in a lot of ways, and I fear that we are being primed to accept Crosshair stepping up as a replacement.
Crosshair and Hunter are both:
- hyper-sensitive of their surroundings
- marksmen
- leaders of the squad
- the most protective of Omega
- the ones who seem to have the strongest bonds with Omega
- the two most capable members of the squad to actually raise Omega (imo)
- there’s so much more, and the show uses a lot of visual cues to portray this imo but rn I can’t seem to spit my thoughts out
Idk I just feel like if they wanted to, they could pull something like that off. I don’t think it would be necessary at all. Again, I’m hoping they don’t do something like that. I’m probably just traumatized by every other show that always makes the lovable main characters commit the ultimate sacrifice at the very end of the show. I really don’t see why all five Batchers can’t live their happy lives on Pabu once the show is over, but my mind is rampant with predictions.

The lighter side of Anakin´s story
Tumblr media
So I have seen some fans talking about Lucas mentioning that Qui-Gon was wrong to ask for Anakin to be trained as a Jedi because the prophecy only talked about a strong force user defeating the sith, not a Jedi and while I am not sure if that´s actually true given I have not seen the original video from Lucas, I must say that it´s a very interesting take.
Anakin at 9 was already a person who emboided compassion, a wish to help his community, he and his Mom bassically saved Qui-Gon and Padme for a long stay on Tatooine and saved Naboo by proxy, Anakin risked his life to give them the parts needed for their ship and later to destroy the droid army invading Naboo.
Shmi and Anakin were also active members of their society in the sense that they helped others without asking for anything, Anakin helped his fellow slaves, tusken raiders or people in need of his help, they did it just because it was the right thing to do and because they thought a nicer, kinder galaxy was in the benefice of everybody else, despite them being slaves. Anakin already had made a working transmiter detector to help take their slave chips outf and help other slaves like them. He was well on his way to achieving his dream to free all the slaves of Tatooine. He had many of the Jedi virtues without needing to be an actual Jedi.
Freeing the slaves of the outer rim, beggining with Tatooine, truly was Anakin´s purpose beyond the whole helping balance the force and defeat the Sith, in fact that was the first prophecy he made and the only one he didn´t get to fulfill properly which actually, it´s part of his tragedy imo.
Sooner or later, as a freedom fighter on Tatooine, he would have found himself in direct opposition with Palpatine´s plans be it as a Chancellor of the republic or the Leader of the empire, which would have given him the motivation to help end his reign without being too close and vulnerable to his influence. Anakin would have counted with the support of his community, his family, the Lars family and bassically any other people who joined in the cause of helping Tatooine to turn it into a better place for everybody. (Think of it as a proto-rebel alliance, just instead of restoring the republic, their main purpose would have been to free the slaves)
Anakin didn´t need to become a Jedi to do any of that, I believe Yoda´s, Mace Windu and the Jedi Council initial rejection of Anakin to become a Jedi was the right call, not for the reasons they believed, like being old or being afraid for his mother´s fate but in the sense that Anakin wasn´t fit for the way the Order opperated at the time, he didn´t need a master, he needed a father, he needed his Mother, he needed a family, The main reason why he was able to overcome the tragedy and pain of being a slave was because he could count on his Mom, his friends and his community to help him, listen to him and support him on equal footing which also inspired in him the wish to do his best to help them.
As a Jedi, Anakin was a stranger in a culture so completely different to his own that he never was able to fit in really, jedi training in the Republic only left Anakin feeling isolated, alone, vulnerable to Palpatine´s grooming by taking the role as Anakin´s father figure, bitter for the guilt of leaving his Mother behind as a slave and unstable emotionally because he no longer had a real supporting net to sustain him in the way a family would have done for him, when he had been a very stable kid, with friends despite being a slave on Tatooine. Bassically being a Jedi lead to Anakin emotional unstability and vulnerability to manipulation and nothing in their training helped him to overcome any of that because the main hurt, the abandonement of his family on Tatooine, wasn´t ever addressed until it was too late.
Qui-Gon intention was good, it´s completely understable he tought Anakin needed training but by forcing Anakin to become a Jedi in the same way the other Jedi were in the republic very much condemned Anakin to sacrifice the life and dreams that gave him happines and emotional stability. Anakin only needed his mother and him to be freed for him to quickly start positive changes from Tatooine and beyond it, not become a Jedi.
Yoda probably should have listened to his initial counsel, the only reason he changed his judgment was because Obi-Wan insisted as part of Qui-Gon´s last words, not because he thought it was the best path to follow and by sending Anakin back to his mother or letting him stay on Naboo as an hero, he most definitely would have done great things for the slaves in the outer rim and as a grown up adult, he would have not problem having a relationship with Padmé, taking away another pressure point that lead to him falling to the darkside, the other being of course, that he would have grown up secure and away from Palpatine´s influence.
Some food for thought
