What I Did Today:
Went to therapy
(I asked my therapist to have a ten minute break at the end of sessions to wind down and talk about something else and obviously I talk about tma and this session she was like what do you want to talk about and I grinned and she was like oh yeah of course, what else would we be talking about really and I think that's an achievement)
Nearly took the wrong bus home and I'm being SO brave about it
Took said bus holding a packet of yeast
Bought a McDonald's sprite
Watched a man pay for 5 different orders with 5 different envelopes full of cash each labelled with names and also watched the poor cashier take all of this in his stride, smiling the whole time
(I think each of his kids had different orders and they each paid for their own? Either that or he's freelance delivererooing)
Had a FAT NAP
Made cinammon rolls
Dressed up as Jonathan Sims and said a statement to my mirror cause I can't let the costume go to waste
Went insane over mag 82
Pretty good day I'm gonna give it a solid 6.9/10

the TMA fandom ADORES Joshua Gillespie for his practical intelligence and problem solving, lauding him for his simple and effect solution to being presented with the Buried Coffin. And you know what?
I think that's not enough. I think we can go farther.
Joshua Gillespie saved the world.
Behold my reasoning:
Joshua Gillespie's iced key trick was enough to him to pass the Coffin's trial, meaning Breekon and Hope had to pick it back up again. They didn't have a new destination and so were stuck with it for over 20 years, still carrying it around by the time they joined back up with the Circus for the Unknowing.
During the Unknowing, Hunter Alice Daisy Tonner killed the entity's half known as Hope, and the half known as Breekon threw her into the Coffin in vengeance. During her 8 month imprisonment, her connection to the Hunt was severed and she realized she disliked the person it made her and the things she'd done.
By the time Archivist Jon Sims came and saved her, she was a changed person who knew she could never be forgiven but sought to be better and do good anyways. Over the next 6 months, she and Jon struck up an unlikely friendship and acted as Anchors for one another.
Between Martin being Forsaken, Melanie working to recover from the Slaughter, and Basira being a hypocritical brick wall, Daisy was, at this point, the only person Jon could rely on. They helped keep each other grounded and in check resisting the hunger.
If he didn't have Daisy there for him, what are the chances that Jon would have fully snapped and gone full Archivist, the world-ending weapon?
And the only reason she was there to keep him grounded was Joshua Gillespie outsmarting the Coffin.
Bam.

You're Not a Monster Just a Human
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/WNhmGrF by CalypsoRiverstone A loud crash and a yell startled Martin into looking up, instead of staring at a blank page in his notebook for a further ten minutes. Jon had volunteered to do the dishes, but it sounded as though he dropped something. Martin quickly stood up and went into the living room.   The sink still had soapy water in it, and there was a pan lying upside-down on the floor. Jon was sitting, shaking on the floor a few feet away from it, knees up and hands clenched against his forehead. Martin immediately crossed the room and sat next to Jon, hugging him. He could feel Jon's heart fluttering like a bird against his chest.   Jon has a panic attack, and Martin comforts him. (this is a bit belated but I have been In The Countryside all weekend with next to no Internet - anyway! I was a guest reccer for @thereccenter last week. I've been the beneficiary of many kind recs in this newsletter and wanted to pass it on, so I made a list of my favourite heist AUs. I am thrilled it has appeared in the same edition as Michelle Yeoh's Oscar win.)
Laiqualaurelote adores AUs and crossovers, often incredibly niche ones. She is the author of the Ted Lasso heist AU “they will see us waving from such great heists” and can be found on Tumblr here.
Someone once described heist fic to me as the Little Black Dress of AUs—it’ll go with anything, provided you can pull it off. The joy of the heist AU lies in how it deploys its tropes—it’s delightful to see an ensemble you love cast in the archetypes of the heist crew: the Mastermind, the Grifter, the Hacker, the Hitter, the Thief, the Driver, the Forger, the Person Who Blows Stuff Up, etc. (All the better if this unfolds in a Recruitment Montage.) Most heist AUs riff off Ocean’s Eleven and/or Leverage, but the good ones are especially ingenious in how they adapt the cons to fit the fandom and manage to keep the reader guessing till the final sleight of hand. Heist heist baby!
(General content warning for criminality)
“Rose’s Eleven” by leupagus (@leupagus). 50K words, rated Explicit. Fandom: Schitt’s Creek; Ships: Patrick Brewer/David Rose, Ted Mullens/Alexis Rose Backstory: Schitt’s Creek is a show about a wealthy family losing all their money and being forced to relocate to a small town they once bought as a joke. (I have never actually seen it, which is how good this AU is.) In this fic, David Rose, released on parole, assembles a team to rob the Met Gala as vengeance against the man who got him sent to prison, Sebastien Raine—who seems to be dating David’s ex-husband Patrick. Rec: This AU appears at first to be your standard Ocean’s Eleven dynamic combined with an Ocean’s Eight plot, but there’s a lot more going on. I was bowled over by the complexity of the heist, with its double-crosses and triple-crosses. Love the criminals who are also working mothers. Content warnings: N/A
“The Kansas City Shuffle Job” by arboreal_overlords (@peri-hellion). 45K words, rated Teen. Fandom: The Magnus Archives; Ships: Jonathan Sims/Martin Blackwood/Tim Stoker, Basira Hussain/Alice “Daisy” Tonner Backstory: The Magnus Archives is a horror podcast in which fear entities manifest in the world through human avatars, who are granted eldritch powers. In this Leverage-based AU, the characters still have their avatar powers, only they use them for crime. Jon, who left the Magnus Institute after his assistant Sasha was murdered in a conspiracy involving his boss, is hired to lead a heist team comprising hitter Daisy, hacker Melanie and thief Tim. When they are double-crossed, they have to bring on board the best con man in England, Martin. Rec: Wonderful reimagining of the Magnus universe as a criminal underworld, with an intricately plotted heist and character studies carefully woven into the cons. “Let’s go steal an Institute!” Content warnings: Canonical character death, some canon-typical suicidal ideation
“Three Card Monte” by enjambament (@enjambament). 14K words, rated Teen. Fandom: Harry Potter; Ships: Sirius Black/Remus Lupin, Caradoc Dearborn/Fabian Prewett, Lily Evans/James Potter Backstory: In this non-wizarding Marauders AU, Sirius gets out of prison and looks up Remus with a plan to rob the casino at Hotel Voldemort and steal...a piano. Rec: A clever, compact Oceans-esque heist with fun twists on canon, from grizzled hacker Mad-Eye Moody to young thief Tonks, still learning to grift on the job. Content warnings: Mention of past abusive relationship
“The Casterly Rock Job” by Netgirl_Y2K (@netgirl-y2k). 3.2K words, rated Teen. Fandom: Game of Thrones; Ship: Yara Greyjoy/Daenerys Targaryen Backstory: Daenerys’ plan to steal the Lannisters’ dirty little secrets for their business rival Olenna Tyrell involves enlisting Arya’s burglary skills, Margaery’s knack for seduction and Yara’s speedboat driving. Rec: Love an all-women heist crew! Criminal mastermind Dany has a delightful swagger, seen through the eyes of hard-bitten mobster’s daughter Yara.  Content warnings: N/A
“i don’t need a parachute (if i’ve got you)” by thewestwinged (@aberfaeth). 6K words, rated Teen. Fandom: The Locked Tomb; Ship: Gen, Camilla Hect & Palamedes Sextus Backstory: Thief Camilla teams up with the hacker known as The Warden to one-up his mother, the legendary grifter Juno Zeta, Who Met God And Convinced Him She Was One Of His Angels And Then, Ostensibly, Stole A Lot Of Money From Him. Rec: Spot-on voices for Camilla “hides a taser in a fake gun” Hect and Palamedes “uploads erotica onto Elon Musk’s website” Sextus. I would watch an entire series of Cam & Pal Commit Crimes. Content warnings: N/A
“Provenance” by rageprufrock (@rageprufrock). 20K words, rated Teen. Fandom: Inception; Ships: Arthur/Eames, Dominic Cobb/Mallorie Miles Backstory: Inception is technically canonically about a heist, but in this AU there is no dream technology and it’s about art theft instead. The theft of a Raphael painting from the National Gallery reunites Interpol agent Dom, insurance company representative Arthur, and the painting’s owner Eames, who may or may not have stolen it himself. Rec: Brilliant, funny, unusual in that it follows neither the Ocean’s Eleven nor Leverage moulds but strikes out on its own. The long-suffering hapless POV of Dom Cobb, usually a hugely unedifying character, is priceless. Content warnings: N/A

MAG 61 - apple cutting
HA! Another ambiguous episode title! Hard Shoulder as in Breekon & Hope being like solid wood when Daisy hit them (like them having a hard shoulder) and the hard shoulder of the road. Or possibly Daisy' shoulder was meant as well? Jarring her arm when hitting Breekon & Hope and then being hold with a firm grip by her shoulder so she wouldn't follow Zack into the coffin.
I love Fay's voice btw. I could listen to zir for hours.
JON "…Right. Um, so, you came to deliver one of the tapes. From Basira? The uh, the, the audio tapes. … So… can I have it? Please?" DAISY "I’m thinking." - Is it already happening here? Does Daisy already feel Jon's compulsion and tries to parse what it is? Because next time, she's already prepared:
JON "…If you don’t mind me asking, hhhow long have you been sectioned, now –" DAISY "[angrily] I do mind – … 14 years." - Here it definitely happened.
DAISY "Not as long as you understand my policy: if it gets out, I’ll break every bone in your body." JON "[sigh, muttering] There are worse things that could happen to them…" - It makes me sad, that he is already expecting all sorts of horrible fates that could (and will) happen to him.
(Cont.) DAISY "[confused, possibly offended] What?" JON "Uh, nothing. Uh, statement of Detective Alice “Daisy” Tonner of the London Metropolitan Police. What’s the subject?" - Peak office comedy again.
It's the 1st December. Jordan Kennedy's statement was on 3rd November, exactly 4 weeks ago. Including Jordan's and this statement, that means Jon recorded 7 real statements in a span of 4 weeks.
"A Wednesday afternoon doesn’t see a lot of traffic" - Is it also tradition in the UK that public services are closed on Wednesday afternoons? In the village I'm living in, even all the non-supermarket-chain shops have closed on Wednesday afternoon.
"Part of me wanted to spot some idiot who I could take my bad mood out on" - First time around I immediately decided that this character is an absolute asshole and that I hated her. (Wow, that would drastically change in S4…)
Seriously, delivery vans driving reaaaally slow I find justified to check out. That's very suspicious for not having their load secured correctly and that being the reason for them to drive so slow.
"The man who got out looked normal – so normal that these days I can’t really picture his face. Said his name was “Tom.”" - High probability that this is Not!Sasha's Tom.
"From the back of the van, there was a sound of moaning." - While on my first listen I was lucky to recently already have relistened to MAG 2, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to connect things (because I couldn't remember anything from that episode). But heavy rain and moaning I immediately thought that it's gotta be the coffin!
"I yelled at them to explain what the hell was going on, but they just stood there, staring at it. So I hit one of them with my baton." - Oh yeah, that Daisy definitely is an awful person…
"I shouted for him, started to run but I felt a huge hand grip my shoulder. I grabbed it with my good arm, tried to escape it, but the grip was too strong. The texture of the flesh was like hard rubber. All I could do was watch as my partner kept walking into the earth, on stairs that couldn’t be there." Isn't it ironic? Here they saved her, but the next time Daisy would see Breekon & Hope and the coffin again, Breekon will make her go into the Buried herself.
JON "Uh, there is one other thing – I’ve been meaning to ask Basira, but you might know better –" DAISY "I’m done." - He's doing it again…
(Cont.) JON "Oh – yes, it’s just, j– [quickly] do you know anything about vampires?" - Now here's why he makes the perfect Archivist. Just can't shut up, asking more and more questions even when facing possible violet people (and later monsters)… tbh I'd probably also totally abuse a power like this.
DAISY "[anxious, drawn] Don’t tell Basira. She doesn’t know about that procedure. I, I’m not sure how much she’d understand" - Daisy worrying about what Basira might think of her? Even if it's actually straight up killing monsters in this instance, but Daisy really don't want Basia to know what she's capable of.
It's interesting that the coffin is connecting Jon and Daisy that much. When they met for the first time Daisy tells her statement about the coffin. Next time both of them will be dealing with the coffin, they actually start bonding, which slowly turns into a genuine friendship.
JON "Well, that’s a matter for later. I need to go home. Try to get some sleep." - Good! Keep up that attitude!… I'm also going to sleep now XD
Fay's voice is indeed great,
The Archivist, The Wolf and the Coffin... sounds like a Narnia book

Statement of Alice "Daisy" Tonner regarding James "Meaty" Grice, statement begins,
DAISY (STATEMENT): I first met James Grice several years ago, during a job in Doncaster. It was cold, that awful February, and yet somehow everything felt alive. Basira and I would chat as the day went on, and we had been told about a section 31 fatality that had happened near Doncaster. There were real hopes running high that the monster would turn out to be a real thing, as the alternative was getting buried alive by the snow.
So that was fine. Then the other day - came the other day - and the day after that. It rolled on for what might have been weeks. The first time I saw the corpse it was in the freezer. It was that face, that twisted and warped image. Its head looked like a rancid melon.
Then, a few days later, the strangest thing happened. I was in an alley, when I found the same corpse. Frozen solid, it was festooned with icicles. I was certain it was the same person. And again, near the edge of the city, just me and the faded glow of a car headlights. I walked closer, and I could see it even from there. Its body, bloated and bloody. Its eyes lost in the somnolence of being so small and dead.
It was weeks before I encountered them alive. There was a guy sitting at the bus stop next to me. That would be when I met James Grice. They were tall, maybe six-and-a-half feet? And their face seemed more round than before, but still the same face, whose eyes were full of savage violence and stillness.
I asked them if they were the same person. And they said they weren’t. I said “I kill things like you,” And they just laughed, and told me that they wanted to know how long it was since I had been buried alive. I said “I could kill you,” and they laughed again and told me that they didn’t care. I said “Next time I see you,” and they told me that they didn’t have any problem with that.
I asked the guy what they were doing anyway, and they just shrugged. “Well, I wanted to get some ice cream.”

If there was something Daisy would have never thought to discover about Jon, it was that he draw. At least, he used to. To be precise, he did so back in university, taking into account the date on the drawing. She had unpacked it from one of the very few boxes they had taken to their new, ridiculously small, apartment in Cork. She believed it was likely the drawing had been misplaced by a Jon that was still adjusting to a mind that was merely human.
“Is that Dante with a dead girl… talking ?” she commented severely, out loud, falling into her former police’s customs.
“Her name is Beatrice” Jon’s voice was becoming less rough than it had ever been before, just as his looks was begging to seem less in the raggedy side. “She was…uh… Dante’s crush . All art and even The Divine Comedy itself only spoke about her beauty and her niceness but…there was no real reason for connexion to Dante. For him to be so in love ” he shrugged. “It made no sense at the time. Now, well, I kind of get it. But, back in uni, I wanted them to talk, to have something I could justify building a mutual attraction between them. I am not much of a writer…more a mere narrator but…I could draw, I used no be…not to brag, but rather not bad at it”.
“You could draw again” she said. “You could draw our Them . You could draw…us” he raised an eyebrow.
“ Us ?”
“Yes, me trying not to hit the racist shit we have as a landlord. You, discovering you can actually be pedantic in a practical way that people like” he scoffed.
“Let’s talk once I am been fired for the library”.
She stared at him for a second more than expected.
“Basira was right, you can be funny”.
He didn’t answer, but sat next to the open box. His eyes were lost again, and his hand had begun moving over the floor, conforming figures. She thought about sitting, but it felt as a too much of a personal moment.
Still, she knew she would come back. After all, there were a lot of conversations to be had.

Choose your fighter: the TMA fandom at large portraying Elias as significantly more flamboyant and effeminate than any canonically mlm character vs the fandom routinely making Daisy way more masculine or gnc than any actual wlw who you know. isn’t an extremely violent representation of police brutality

After Having Spent the Day Together Hold Each Other Close the Whole Night Through
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/KJwOA3n by iamcringebutiamfree The trip to the safehouse took over seven hours – four and a half hours spent on a train from London to Edinburgh, twenty minutes spent in Waverly waiting for the next train, forty-five minutes spent traveling from Edinburgh to Stirling, nearly an hour huddling under a cold and drippy bus stop in Stirling, then a final forty-five minute bus ride to the small and unassuming town where Basira thought they might be safe – and Jon did not sleep for a single minute of it. He couldn’t, even if he’d wanted to. His nerves were utterly frayed. It felt as though his body had been stuck in fight-or-flight mode from the moment he’d found Martin’s tape, and nothing – not the gentle rocking of the train, not the soothing silence of the late-night air, not the fact that Martin was curled into the seat beside him, hand still loosely wrapped around Jon’s even while he slept – could convince his body that the danger had passed.
