Been thinking about the Crystal Clay au more--and kinda by extension the other aus in which JD or Bruce are the ones in the diamond instead (Crystal Dory au by @tea0w0stache, Crystal Bruce au by @throwawaycan, although none of what I'm about to say should be considered canon to those aus without their creators sayso, I'm just spitballing ideas).

The main conflict that causes Branch to walk out with Poppy and Tiny, which then ultimately results in the remaining three brothers being captured by Velvet and Veneer, is fueled by all three of the oldest brothers: JD's push for perfection sets off Clay, which sets off Bruce, which all in all escalates the argument to the point we see in the movie.

But what about in these aus, where you remove one of those three? Without JD, there isn't as much pressure for perfection. Without Clay or Bruce, there isn't one to spark the conflict and then the other to fan the flames. I'm not saying an argument wouldn't happen, I'm just saying I get the vibes that, without all three of them present, and also with the additional presence of Floyd as a mediator, the argument would be contained before the group decides to split.

If the group doesn't split (and Tiny is still driving Rhonda instead of JD and therefore doesn't park in the obvious 'reserved for Brozone' parking trap), then the other three brothers would never get captured.

Which would leave the one remaining brother who's already trapped, whether it's Clay or Bruce or JD, stuck being Velvet and Veneer's only source of talent for their big show, meaning there's a much higher chance they'd suck the last of the life force out of them sooner than they did for Floyd.

Floyd barely scraped by. What's going to happen if they're left with even less time to complete their rescue?

1) Gigai should lean into the being fake bodies bit, I think. Have people with spiritual pressure Notice that shinigami are Not Human actually bc something about them is. Off. They don't blink. They don't breathe. etcetc

Or. They should have leaned into the half-human angle for the Kurosaki kids more. Ichigo was already bullied for being a redhead just. Add a little spice and have them set off some kinds of alarm in the back of most people's heads. Let them be half actually physical and half made up spirit particles only you know, nobody told them ever. (And yes ik it is A Major Plot Point that Ichigo was alive and even got his whole soul chain cut but! I posit mind over matter. Nobody told his ass he could Danny Phantom it up (well. nobody actually knew they could do that tbf but also nobody ever hit him with the oh yeah your dad was never alive in the first place) and so well. 2) I do Not claim the aftermath of the Winter War/timeskip/Lost Agent Arc okay. Power loss arcs/storylines squick me out, okay! They're just. Sad. And I hate 'em. So a 'fix-it', the basis being that even if the Old Man and White Zangetsu were fused, it was the Old Man acting as 'Zangetsu' when Ichigo used the Final Getsuga Tensho, so the backlash went a little. Funky. (Bc yes i go with the theory that the Final Getsuga is a shinigami/Shiba thing not a bastardized Vollstandig and that mattered) so instead of losing his powers, Ichigo's soul started to destabilize (which yeah, did affect his power levels, but more on the his reiatsu is back to where it was before the Dangai instead of. Well. Everything) which to be fair was Very Bad and potentially fatal in the moment, so he had to be placed back in his body and was medically forbidden to leave it until his soul healed (which. for the purpose of the fused au is also how Ichigo figured out about the able to turn into a ghost on command thing-the combination of being forced to transmit spiritual energy through his physical body while he was healing+learning that his goddamn old man was. a shinigami actually shifted his worldview enough that when he was okayed to leave his body he just. Transformed instead). Alas, on account of his soul barely holding together with spit and determination and the teensy little detail of him being part-Hollow (and actual-Zangetsu being the only one awake to frantically try damage control) meant that some wires got crossed as his soul was healing itself, and well, instead of re-solidifying in it's previous state some elements from (both of) his Hollow form(s) filtered in accidentally to his new base state. Which. Yk. Is a super fun thing to find out and absolutely not at all horrifying to learn to live with.

Hey, so I'm bored and decided to do a bit of a minor redesign session for my Bois. My clone bois. I haven't done all of them, I basically just started. Anyway, here's Dante ( Skeleton clone from kindred spirits for the uninitiated) in his human form/half.

The ink stained the paper ( I smudged it ) so I put some blocks of colour behind him. It actually looks good. Anyway, as I was making these, I drew a tiny bow thing by accident and I realised that out of all my designs, he would look the most like Vlad's biological son, even if his colouring is way different ( I imagine he leans towards Maddie in his genes, he looks closer to Jazz than Danny ) so I thought it was a neat idea and wanted to try leaning into it.

The first draft I realised I did his nose wrong ( I love his lil hooked nose, it fits better) and from there it was just experimenting with the outfit and hair messiness.

Personally, I like the two in the middle best - again he looks a bit like Vlad and I realised it's a happy accident I could lean into - but I think any of these work. I could probably just assume he has more than one pair of overalls/jumpsuits but... Eh, I like toying with clothing.

Here are some minor sketches in my own style I did for fun! •^•

A part of me wanted to make it so Dante was actually made using Vlad DNA... But I actually think it'd be more fun if his grandparents on Maddie's side just had those genes, and he looks like Vlad on accident.

He's also basically the one I'd least like to tweak. My boi is beautiful already. But I do want to change something about the other two's designs. I suppose I'll post those when I do that as well.

Oh, and maybe I should draw a Danno or two to lure unsuspecting phans into the ' clones had lives actually, and that's a great sort of angst because Vlad's A+ parenting and Danny's lack of awareness of the fact all of them were conscious at some point leaves so much to toy and play with in terms of both fluff and angst ' pit! OwO

the first is correct! i love complex characters, especially ones that seem simple to begin with, but once you hit a certain point you discover the nuances and complexity that you missed initially!

the second is somewhat correct, though just in the regard that i don't say it's fanfic when i do talk about it. as far as everyone's concerned, i'm just writing some really deranged original characters.
