Today I created my final showreel, using iMovie to edit and Canva to create better presentation graphics. I uploaded it onto YouTube as the video file was too big for Tumblr to handle, and I also uploaded it to my hard drive for safe keeping. 

I sent away for my photo book too, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how it comes out :)

Recycle | Task 5 | Evaluation

The aim of this project "Recycle" was to use light painting techniques to photograph something old, used or worn-out. I found this project theme to be quite interesting as it focused on a different and more unique subject matter than previous projects and it introduced a new specialised technique. The most interesting area of this project to me was the light painting technique and learning more about the production stages of light painting photography. Painting with light is a relatively new technique to me, after a brief introduction within the NQ photography course last year. This is definitely a technique I'd like to develop further and learn more about. Throughout this project, I researched various photographers who specialise in the light painting technique, the most prominent being Harold Ross. When researching Harold Ross I found that he had mastered the light painting technique and used it to bring his images to life. I feel that the most successful part of this project was the shooting stage. I was able to effectively shoot multiple exposures with different light painting on each image in order to produce a composited image in photoshop. One of the main problems I encountered with this project was having restricted space and access to equipment as I had to work from home for a period of time. This limited what I was able to do in terms of shooting as I had a very small space to work in. I attempted to produce the best images that I could with these restrictions but if I was given the chance to redo this project I would ensure I had the right equipment and studio time in order to produce the best composite I could. I think that in the final image it is clear to see that it is the product of a light painting composite project but I feel that it could have been improved with improved compositing.

Moving Images: Planning

PLAN:

My initial idea for this moving image short film is to shoot in the free-space outside on the second floor of the building, having up to 50 people in frame, I need one person in frame as the main protagonist and the rest as random individuals trying to steal the man’s chocolates. The film will be roughly 70 - 90 seconds long, depending on how many shots I create and make changes to a scene.

I am choosing the outside area as the main set for this shoot because I want to shoot in a huge area to create a couple of wide angle shots to show that the man appears to be alone in the frame, make the shot look as isolating for the character as possible, creating free frames.

I have researched a video on YouTube to explain many different camera angles and shots in frame, so that video was an influence, as well as past angle shots I learned from my NQ Photography course.

I will have to go and ask some people lounging on the second floor area if they would like to volunteer and appear as the many extras in the film.

Post Production  – Colour management Task

▪  What is gamut?

- Gamut is the full range of colours in the colour spectrum.

▪  What is a colour space?

- A colour space is specific colours organised in a particular way.

▪  What two colour spaces do most DSLR cameras offer?

- RGB and RAW.

▪  What colour space can most computer monitors display?

- The sRGB colour profile works well on most computer displays. This is because the limitations that this colour profile has means that the colours used are shown well.

▪  If you switch from sRGB to Adobe RGB on your camera what colours will you see an improvement in?

- As Adobe RGB has a larger colour space, saturated colours show better. These colours are CMYK - cyan, magenta, yellow and key (black).

▪  When you change the colour space in Photoshop what does it do?

- Changing the colour space in Photoshop means that the hue, saturation and brightness of the image will also be adjusted.

▪  Name a larger colour space than Adobe RGB

- Pro Photo RGB.

▪  What can happen to a digital image if you map colours to a really large colour space?

- The lightness and saturation of the image would be altered.

Unassuming Objects Typology

Today i in post production I learned how to make stroke borders, I learned about different shortcuts that can be used on Adobe photoshop and I learned how created a typology and this is my attempt at creating a typology using images of litter that I gathered from around my local area.

By the time I had collected the litter it was pretty dark out side so I used camera settings of 1/125 f4.5 and an iso of 3000 :( I also used photoshop express to add some brightness and saturation to the images.
