After 58 days in FL we’ve started the long journey home to NYC. Getting back into fitness postpartum wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. For one, I had a lot less time to devote to it, but once I got started - and with the help of @nowfoodsofficial - I’m feeling good about where I am! For now, I’m doing @barmethod classes on Livestream and Zoom, running and I recently added some short interval training workouts. It’s so easy to compare yourself to other people or want to push too hard too soon so here are a few tips for getting started: 💪🏻 Start slowly and listen to your body. You can’t expect to be able to do everything you did pre-pregnancy right out of the gate (and that can be frustrating) but you WILL get there again. 💪🏻 Do what you can. Not every workout has to be an hour! Sprinkle in short, 15 or 20-minute workouts and active recovery days like a walk with your baby. Shorter can often mean more efficient. 💪🏻 Focus on nutrition and hydration which is key for recovery and seeing results. For recovery, I’ve stocked up on Now Foods Organic Plant Protein Powder, BCAA Blast and BCAA Big 6 and for hydration I use Effer-Hydrate Effervescent Tablets. 💪🏻 Stay motivated and committed with a plan or a schedule. I wanted to be able to run 3 continuous miles as a baseline so I found a postpartum training plan (see stories) I followed for 6 weeks. PREGNANCY BODY LOVE // Posting this photo wasn't the easiest thing for me to do, but you know what? I freely posted bikini photos pre-pregnancy so why should now be any different? As someone who has spent years sculpting a body I grew to love and accept through nutrition and exercise, embracing my new body has been it's own journey. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ During my first trimester, I freaked out over every pound I gained, scrutinized every expanding inch and cursed every disappearing muscle (goodbye abs). I literally hated every. single. change. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then one day at the start of my second trimester, I woke up. I looked in the mirror and decided I had a choice - I could choose to see myself and this pregnancy differently. For the first time, I saw a body I love - a body that's changing to accomodate a baby we already love more than anything in this whole world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No, this is not the pregnancy body I envisioned myself having, but this is the body I've been given and its my job to love and nurture it in the best way possible. Exercising outside with a mask or face covering is hard and uncomfortable. In short, it 🤬 sucks. For everyone. For me, because I’m postpartum, out of shape and am just getting back to running after more than a year. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But I wear one for the entirety of my workout even if it means some days I have to modify and here’s why: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 😷 It’s the socially responsible thing to do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 😷 In NYC it’s impossible to be socially distant almost anywhere even on designated recreation paths. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 😷 I want this virus gone. For good.
