Is Shaun Nora's child? If so, does she view X6 as family due to his closeness to Father, or just as a friend?

shaun is nora's biological child, yep, and post-institute when asked she says she has two sons (referring to shaun and synth!shaun--but a minor plot point in my fic is that she doesn't tell anyone about synth!shaun being a synth. if pressed for details, she just says her eldest passed away recently and that typically shuts down any further questions).

oh, edited to add bc i don't think i was clear: she treats synth!shaun as a son too. she takes to him straightaway. he's still a child who views her as his mother, and she still wants to be a parent. they have a good relationship.

she does view x6 as family, but in a found-family sort of way that doesn't have anything to do with them sharing dna. she thinks shaun calling himself "father" is extremely--i think paternalistic is the right word, and she emphatically does not approve. she feels family is a lot more than genetic material, and so is parenthood, which relates back to her family situation mentioned here.

she and x6 grow close as they work together and kind of outside the bounds of father's knowledge. x6 is a smart guy and figures out nora's still working for the railroad, and for his own reasons keeps it to himself, and nora's aware that if she actually reported how snarky and independent x6 is, he'd be sent to reconditioning. so their relationship is tense for a while, but eventually grows genuine and very close.

i think outside of nick, x6 is the companion she's closest with by the end of things.

i think someone said in the tags (or replies, don't remember) under my post that first 7 episodes of pd were kinda eh, and it did feel like the first episodes were less serious and less engaging. like, literally my favorite characters after watching them are tide and wavelength, which is like???? one of them barely talked even. but i do believe that it gets better, i saw some of the art and it looks amazing and super interesting!

YOUR TAGS ON THEEEE TOM LOOKING AT GREG ACROSS THE AISLE POST I DSDJKSDJSKJDJKS we shake hands that ep is my entire life for so many reasons i hhhhhhhhhhh. tom's suit being called a gregory. the two of them dressed in black and white when greg says "i do" true to marriage tradition. the fact that when tom sits down in front of greg he literally looks like he's getting on one knee. the way their knees are touching. the way they are sitting so close. the way the two waiters in the background are playfully smacking each other on the ass with towels and both greg and tom look at them wistfully before talking like god i wish that were us. the way greg teases tom a little with the well... keeping him hanging on a little bit. the way greg says "of course". the way their conversation [in that connor asks willa if she really wants this, bc she's kind of giving up her soul wrt money and she says yes i am and i do like the security and wealth but she also likes connor for himself, and connor talks about the age gap!!! and discrepancy in their positions and how they met and came to be and how everyone is always making fun of him/their relationship but she takes him serious and confirms she does want it and then they giggle and laugh it off just like a certain other couple] and body position mirrors connor and willa as well as the cinematography/shots who do actually get married in 4x03 [alone. without the siblings there. almost like a secret ish wedding. hmmm]. the way that nb said 'they wish they were getting married' and the way these mfs act you Know that's actually true and real. the way tom drops the "sporus". the way that after they shake hands, greg's arms twitch out as if to hug tom but then he decides against it bc he's not sure if tom would like that and he doesn't want to ruin this, because everybody else shrinks away from his touch or is disgusted by him but tom opens his arms and greg leaps at the chance, taking tom's shoulders and pulling him in slightly and hugging him tightly, tom literally jostled by the force of the hug.

i Think about the "come with me, sporus" scene a lot.

ESPECIALLY because it’s right after shiv calls tom and tells him about her plan and his IMMEDIATE reaction being “okay, this is my chance to finally hit her where it hurts after her ‘death-by-1000-cuts’-ing me for years, but first i need to make sure greg is safe and on my side” like BEFORE anything else (just checked the script books and greg walks over to him RIGHT after he gets off the phone with shiv, no time to think about anything else) AND THEN ”SPORUS” AND THEN THE MOST ROMANTIC SCENE THAT HAPPENS IN THE (WEDDING) EPISODE AND THEN TOM ‘KILLING’ HIS WIFE I JUST. AUGH THE NERO & SPORUS SHIT MAKES ME GO BATSHIT ISTG HFSKJGHDFKJGHJDFKGHDRKJHY (also while I was in the script books I saw that the hug was unscripted??? It was meant to be just the handshake??? Just like the forehead kiss was unscripted too??? Matthew Mcfadyen is an absolute GODSEND (& nb I guess but yknow) for just ADDING those in UNPROMPTED he’s such a tg truther oml) 

Also can you IMAGINE how greg must've felt at the beginning of the tomshivorce, seeing him and tom going out together to hook up w random models or whatever (i think they were playing it up quite a bit and just wanted to spend time with each other but yknow)  and having the realisation somewhere that “do you wanna come with me, sporus” AND THEN THIS could have been referring to tom wanting to be with greg? YESSSSSS YES.. I ADORE THEM IN EMP S1!!! their dynamic is so unique there because of how wholly and overwhelmingly soft/positive it is. theyre allies from the start and BEST allies… auuughh.. yesshh Joel gets sooo defensive over Jimmy in s1 its beautiful. how quick he is to go absolutely murder mode for Jimmy. but how quick he is to be soft for him too. SIGGHHHHH. its my dream fr. the possessiveness.. YES.. theyre just SO important to eachother and it drives me crazy. he treats Jimmy so special. the way that he has little rooms for just Jimmy and Lizzie in his palace… the special roles they both hold… his wife and his best friend… there is def such a special connection there. and the possessiveness, Jimmy has so many more allies and close allies than Joel does. Joel just enforcing and affirming his station and specialness to Jimmy every once and a while.. by insulting his other allies augshs.. augh.. I just love them

also, for anyone else mulling over boundaries still; if you want specifics he just said he finds it “a bit weird” and iirc he didnt really say you cant do it. he just doesnt get it cause hes such a wifeguy. if youre concerned you can still tag it properly/keep it out of main tags. but if he was Really upset by it he would Not be encouraging and escalating it, and making the jokes he does, and putting them in his videos, and liking comments people make about them, and the tweets he makes, and and and and… if people are harassing u on behalf of him, they dont really care about what hes comfortable with, they just wanna punch down at someone. I get wanting to be respectful, but Ive also seen it used for such cruelty 💔 so I think the most important thing to keeping everyone, including the creators themselves, happy is to keep things to the right tags and spaces and being kind to yourself and others and blocking what you need and keeping out of peoples business.

I saw someone do something like this to advertise their fic- they linked the fic, and then put in a little collage of various comment snippets. I can’t find the post to show off- someone please do let me know if you’ve seen that, I want to credit them. 

Either way, my Hollow Knight post-Black-Egg-Temple fic (linked here) has 209 comment threads on it. I’ve gone through and found some bits. These bits were mostly chosen for entertainment/intrigue value out of context- a lot of my favorite comments didn’t get in.

i was so relieved to read this that i accidentally put my phone in airplane mode trying to respond “it is startled out of its pleasant memory-” pLEASANT???? PLEASANT!?! Hollow no. HOLLOW NO- / why does this for some reason almost feel like fluff.  My urge to keysmash at you is strong Just. God. Everything about this is so fucked in so many ways.

Something about this line just makes me want to. Maybe stab the king in the chest. Repeatedly. And then throw them off a bridge. Idk Actually many things about this chapter make me want to stab the king in the chest repeatedly and then throw them off a bridge. Because *holy shit* Hollow, honey, you have so much trauma. OMG ghost, what have you done [stressed emoji] Okay then. Well. Um. That’s a lot to happen.  God it’s such a mess Ah yes, the eldritch nonsense trying to approximate a living creature, my beloved PK you ass. PK you absolute ASS get over here I wanna hit you with something heavy-  oh / im immediately punched in the face okay thank you for that Right off the bat I am mildly excited about this chapter solely because you played with text formatting and that makes my serotonin levels rise. I don’t know why but thank you for that.  CONFUSION SOUP I’M FHDHDJFKFKGH I wanna join the cuddle pile :<<< let me in [holding Hollow gently in both hands] / I will get you all the fresh-dirt-scented soap Fucking superb you funky little vessels. Oh boy! Spiraling!

Oh this chapter hurts ‘specially bad. Because it wasn’t enough to be possessed and neglected and quite literally tortured and driven insane, now we gotta have more medical issues and amnesia-  I fuckign cried at this one, oh my god. Pain is always a tearjerker, but it’s nothing compared to someone who’s been in pain so long finally getting that first big moment of *realizing they’re wanted* and *heard* and *healing*  And I gotta say, (this is gonna sound bad) I really do love Hollow’s victim blaming. Or how it’s written. I love how you write characters in pain <333 “Oh, just a quick chapter to read before bed,” I thought to myself. “I will enjoy it and feel a normal and manageable level of emotions about it.” / ...Thanks for making me all teary in the wee hours, now I’ll never get to sleep! (...I mean this as praise.) Oh. Oh Hollow. So wrapped up in the need to be useful. So incapable still of seeing that their own gut-wrenching familial love might be returned in kind, whether they have some designated purpose for their existence or not.  Yeah. Relieved. / Oh, Hollow... You have already left kudos here :) [three times] / Have I ever been told the definition of insanity?  honestly the body horror was the /least/ disturbing thing in this chapter. not to say! that it was not disturbing - even then, less the horror and more the. context. i want to punch TPK. into a lake. that is on fire.

First comment of my first reread, and MAN. This opening hits just as hard the second time.  Keep in mind Hollow Knight was made by Australian people Hollow 100% deserves a nice date at the palace if they so wish. anyway, I feel very emo about Hollow, all the time.  HOLLOW IS LETTING THEMSELVES HAVE WILL, LET’S GOOOOOO Ghost is doing Fine:tm:, Hornet is doing Fine:tm:, Hollow is *actually* doing pretty well Good news! Hollow is an emotional wreck!  Hornet is doing sooo normal right now (lying).

TLDR; amazing story, glorious update, poor Grimm, I Am Desperate For Shield Lore, someone please tell Ghost it isn’t their fault, the entire gaggle of siblings needs a group hug, I Am Going To Put The Pale King’s Corpse Through A Shredder, and Hornet needs another good cry.

Cassie landed onto a hard stone floor. She squinted up at the bright blue sky. 

This must be Ciara's Astral Plane.

Footsteps approached her. 

"Halt!" Someone said. Cassie opened her eyes fully and saw a woman with light gray hair and wings pointing a spear directly at her face. "How did you get into the palace?!" 

"Augh!" Cassie scrambled away, throwing her hands in front of her face. Her sword had dissolved back into the Starglass. "I—I'm friendly, I swear!"

"Columba!" Another voice said. A woman with long, split black and white hair began walking towards them. As she got closer, Cassie could see that her eyes were two different shades of gray. "What are you doing?"

The first woman—Columba—stood up and stood to attention. "This girl came through Ciara's portal. No sign of Ciara, though."

"Ciara?" Cassie asked aloud. "Ciara! I know Ciara! She's—she went—"

"Easy, easy." The second woman knelt down to look Cassie in the eyes. "My name's Gemini. What's yours?"

"C—Cassie," Cassie said, pulling herself into a sitting position. "I met Ciara down on Earth while I was out for a mission. She said there were other Zodiacs. That's you, isn't it?" 

"Other—?" Gemini began to ask, but stopped herself. "Actually, no. You seem pretty shaken right now, Cassie. Let's get you cleaned up. And we might wanna get something for your eye."

Cassie touched the eye containing the Starglass. "Oh. That's normal, actually. It's kind of a long story."

Gemini held out a hand and helped Cassie up. "Welp, if you say so. Here. I think you can bunk with Ophi for a bit." Gemini began walking down a hallway, and Cassie started walking after her. "I'll get the rest of the Zodiacs to come see you. We can figure out how to get you back down to the Mortal Realm—you are a mortal, right?"

"Yeah, I am," Cassie said. "Have you met any other...mortals? Ciara said she was a mortal, but she's also a reincarnation of a god?"

Gemini whistled. The two of them began walking up many flights of stairs. "Yeah, Ciara's a bit of an outlier. When she came here, she looked more human than the rest of us. Just a small, scrawny little thing. But it turned out she was actually less human than the rest of us."

"That doesn't really make sense."

"Yeah, I suppose it doesn't. But there's a lot of things in this world that don't make sense." They reached a wooden door, with a sign on the front marked Ophiuchus.

Ophiuchus?

Gemini banged on the door a couple of times. "Ophi! Ophiuchus! My beloved! You in there?" 

"Yeah, hang on!" A woman with white skin, white and pale green hair tied back in a ponytail, and light blue eyes answered the door. A noticeably smaller black and purple serpent was curled around her neck. "Asclepius came back from the Mortal Realm in a panic. Took me ages to calm him down."

"Asclepius!" Cassie said excitedly. The snake perked its head up at the mention of their name. "Hey, bud. Remember me? You saw me like...fifteen minutes ago? You nearly killed me?"

Asclepius hissed mournfully.

"I forgive you." Cassie crossed her arms and pretended to scoff. "Since you apologized so nicely."

Ophiuchus looked between Gemini and Cassie, confused. "Uh...how does she...? What happened in the Mortal Realm?"

"I met Ciara on Earth. She had Asclepius with her. She told me there were other Zodiacs besides my own, and she followed me to my own portal." Cassie recounted. "Then one of the spirits I was tracking showed up and scared Asclepius, and they ended up knocking me through Ciara's portal."

"Asclepius!" Ophiuchus scolded her snake. "That's it, you're going into the snake cage." The snake lowered its head in shame.

"Ophi, can Cassie stay with you for a bit? Just until we figure out what to do with her?" Gemini asked. "And...until we figure out how to get Ciara back?"

"Oh," Ophiuchus said in surprise. "Yeah, of course." 

"Thanks, love!" Gemini gave Ophiuchus a peck on the lips, turned around, and began running down the stairs. "I'm gonna alert all the other Zodiacs about this!" 

After Gemini went, Cassie turned to Ophiuchus. "Um...what's going to happen to me?"

"Nothing bad," Ophiuchus reassured her. "They'll just decide on the best course of action on how to send you home, since you're a human." Ophiuchus squinted, staring at the Starglass in Cassie's eye. "You are a human, right...?"

"Yeah. I am." Cassie rubbed the back of her neck. "Kind of a long story."

"Well, I'm sure you can tell me and the other Zodiacs all about it over dinner." Ophiuchus nudged open the door to her room. "In the meantime, you should rest. I think I've got a spare mattress in here somewhere."

Cassie smiled up at her. "Thank you so much, really."

"Who's there?!" Someone shouted. Ciara strained her eyes to see through the darkness. There was a man with black hair and a black hood approaching her. He blended in so well with the darkness, it was hard to keep track of him. "Show yourself!" 

"WhAT THE FUCK?!" Ciara shouted back. Her sword was still unsheathed, lying on the ground a few inches from her, so she grabbed at it.

Immediately, the blade of a scythe was pointed at her chest, directly over her heart. Now that he was up close, Ciara could see that he had an absolutely ludicrous amount of weaponry on him.

"Who are you?" The stranger demanded. "What have you done with Cassie?"

"Dude, chill!" Ciara screeched, waving her sword around. "I'm friendly!"

The stranger paused. "You don't sound very friendly. You also have a sword."

"I know Cassie! I saw her fifteen minutes ago! I swear on...uh...my ex-boyfriend's life!"

"Uh..." The stranger came into clearer view. He had black markings around his eyes, and his hood ended in a scorpion tail. It clacked against the floor. "Ex-boyfriend? Well, too bad for him. I'm gonna kill you anyway."

"Ha! Too bad for you! He's dead anyway!" Ciara said triumphantly.

The scorpion man paused again. "That was...kind of a morbid joke."

"You're Scorpio, right?!" Ciara shouted in desperation. "Cassie said there were other Zodiacs besides mine! You're one of them!"

Scorpio let out an audible gasp. "How—what—?"

"If you'd kindly stop pointing that thing at me, I'd be more than happy to explain!" Ciara waved the hand that wasn't holding the sword around in some rude hand gestures. 

Scorpio stared down at her before lifting up his scythe and resting it on his shoulder. "Hmm. You're a feisty little thing. I'm sure the other Zodiacs would like to see what type of anomaly you are." 

"Oh, wonderful, I'm an anomaly now too!" Ciara said sarcastically. "I bet you and your Zodiacs would love dissecting me alive!" 

"Shut it." Scorpio picked Ciara up by the scruff of the neck and threw her over his other shoulder like a sack of potatoes. "I don't know how you got here, or what you did to Cassie, but rest assured, when I find out, it won't be pretty."

"For the record, my Zodiacs were much nicer to me when I first met them!" Ciara aimed some kicks at Scorpio's chest and pounded on his back with her fists. 

"Well, I'm not exactly known for being nice." Scorpio deadpanned. Ciara's efforts to hurt Scorpio seemed to have no effect on him. "In fact, a lot of people go out of their way to stay away from me. I'm apparently very dangerous. Perhaps you're too stupid to realize that."

Ciara blew him a raspberry. "Thank you so much, really."

AUGH THE CHAPTER IS CALLED DUNGEON MESHI. it's simple but I love it when they do that. perfect for dm, which is pared-down in themes but applies itself perfectly to what it wants to say

wow, damn, guess that makes sense, it's so amazing that laios brought so many people together with the simple promise of something that unites all living things - nourishment - and they in turn brought their own food to add to the communal pot. I would have liked to see more exploration of this community-building through food, but this is literally one of the only things I would change about dm it's so impeccable crafted

you know this story wouldn't have worked half as well if farlyn wasn't legitimately a charming and lovable character who was easy to get attached to and root for. if they tried going the jerk with a heart of gold route, it would have taken a lot longer and been harder to create sympathy for her. like how cql's appeal rests disproportionately on you liking and rooting for wwx, dungeon meshi's driving plot relied on you WANTING this woman to come back to life, to eat and see her friends and do her magic and get into her weird hobbies. and she's perfect! the writing doesn't rely on one cliched line or scene to get you to realize 'oh they're a good person despite their harsh exterior' to get you to root for her (even tho that's an underutilized technique for writing women), it just presents this oddball and lets you love her. rk is so good at writing women who feel like real people, it's a reason adore marcille - for her awkwardness, her judgement, her readiness to blow things up without thought. she's just a deeply uncool person who's very endearing

not to be a monarchist or anything but this is probably the best they could have gotten given the situation so I'm not going to complain too much. it's not like I read dm for in-depth and realistic political engagement

and this is like the easiest way to be a good leader. just care about your people getting the food they need. that's enough, really. I don't think laios is capable of much more anyway. it's not like he's a politican

also what does the succession line look like? I know he's not having a kid. omg kabru!! his face is so ajshdksad. and yayy marcille and farlyn staying to advise him together!!

Hi hello hi I just caught up on equinox and it's making me insane I have so many thoughts I'm just going to throw all of them at you beloved mutual. Also I listened to the Hades ost while reading this and I think it rewired my brain chemistry. Also Equinox spoilers below dear readers.

QUITE FRANKLY I do not know enough about Ancient Greek myths because it was never an area of interest for me but never the less I have been GRIPPED. Atherix was like "I hate cheating stories and I am Making An Exception for this one" so of course i had to read it and now I am simply perched like a bird staring down at this it is fantastic. Oh my god I cannot wait for everything to run through the fan here.

Scar and Grian are SUCH a mess and it is a DELIGHT. You have truly captured the Vibes here my lord. The fact that Scar remains loyal for SO LONG after Grian stops paying attention to him and keeps a shrine to his husband and grian is just. GOING BEHIND HIS BACK. AUGH. MY HEART CANT TAKE THIS. and then SCAR being like "you know what i deserve it" far be it from me to cheer on someone cheating on their spouse but FOR THE LOVE OF THE GODS MAN YES YOU DO. ESPECIALLY considering how Grian vs Scar's cheating parallel each other like Grian is LYING to himself and hurting both himself AND bigb in the process whereas Scar is FINALLY happy with Mumbo while S T I L L feeling the pull back to Grian and the way ALL of it parallels double life and how Grian and Scar see alliances and contracts as completely different and play the game different can anyone HEAR me I am SCREAMING

Yes Mumbo is Etho's son and it was entirely accidental 😂 I was like "Well this is who Mumbo is in the AU and then a couple of days later "Oh I know who Etho is" and then it took me like an hour from there before I made the connection.
