Saitama: "I would do anything for Genos, like blow up the solar system and travel back in time just to save him because he's my anchor and I don't even feel like human without him and I felt the strongest emotion I've ever felt when I thought I lost him."
Also Saitama: "No homo though."

I'm very happy to see Bang aknowledging and discussing, even if briefly, Garou's ideology and why it doesn't work.
Tumblr media
But I still think it would've been best if we got a scene with Bang and Garou actually discussing this together and Bang imparting his philosophy to Garou while Garou maybe even resisted it a little before realizing finally that his plan was in reality futile.
It would have been very impactful to see Garou untangle some of his complex thoughts and feelings about it all and mourn the loss of his goal/ideal/plan. I think it really would've developed the master and disciples relationship in a much more meaningful way.
I feel that there is something important missing between Garou's defeat and his happy return to the dojo and I don't know if we'll ever get that something in the manga.
But on another note...can we just appreciate what a damn snack Garou's bio grandpa young Bang is?? 👁️👄👁️

we got a opm webcomic update!!!!! idk what's going on but it looks super important
!!!! So far that's 3 updates this month! :D ONE's on a roll for xmas!
Aaaa OHMAN yeah, (Sonic gets a nice fight scene with his newly reclaimed ninja-leader weapons; looks like yup he's still getting targeted on their kill/harvest list just like Garou) the text-heavy lore part where Child Emperor finally confronts Bofoi directly (looks like he arrived before Genos!) about the robot invasion going on - to decide whether he's the culprit behind it all or if his tech's been stolen by the Organization, etc (what is the truth!! we're ever closer to solving this mystery...) and the longer they talk the more CE looks like he's about to snap and go full Mob Psycho on him - whoaa this is tense!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For all that vital information possibly revealed, we'll absolutely need the translation for sure!

My favorite take on character un-death is that resurrection is taboo not because it is impossible but because it is cruel, especially considering a hero’s death: having given the ultimate sacrifice, even more is asked of you; you’ve truly earned your rest and yet the world pulls you back because it still needs you, what you’ve done isn’t enough and could never be.

When people read OPM with blindfolds on cuz they think that the only impactful thing Genos has done for Saitama is pay rent and pay for groceries and the only character to care about Genos as more than acquaintance is Kuseno.
Tumblr media
Bruh, I just can't anymore.
Is this the reason people are mad about the development in last chapter? Because they never took the time to analyze the interactions between Saitama and Genos?
Legit, the most impactful thing Genos has given to Saitama is true companionship. Because Saitama before Genos was lonely and alienated af. No friends or social interaction whatsoever. People have a huge habit of misjudging Saitama's character at a glance, so he doesn't even bother to care.
3 months later after meeting Genos, he has 6 different people enjoying his favourite food made out of deluxe meat inside his apartment and he's not shooing them away, even when they overstep the boundaries he's comfortable with (eating the cabbage, talking too much, too many people at once). People Saitama can legitimately now call acquaintances as well. Just because Genos now has his back.
How is that for progression?
And that's just the tip of the iceberg of how impactful Genos has been in a very short time duration of mere 3 months in timeline. Because Saitama is a good judge of character and chose to trust Genos inside his house, when he didn't have to. It was never in your face because naturally developing bonds don't often need to be displayed that way, you can easily infer the level of trust between them is strong (and not just in hero work.)
If I went over every single detail, this post would become insanely long. Genos is legitimately and genuinely helping Saitama get out of his shell and helping him deal with his emotional stump and depression in so many darn ways. Diminishing that and character progression means we might as well end the series from where we left off.
Saitama who only exists to subvert tropes in his own manga about how to become a hero and still remaining as depressed, alienated person despite making all these connections at the end of the series, would be an incredible downer.
I don't want to hear anymore of this bullshit about how Genos only pays rent. He literally doesn't, Saitama never used that money.

I want to continue talking a bit about the abuse Garou received throughout his life.
What happened to Garou is a classic case of reactive abuse. Here is a straightforward definition I found on The Internet(TM):
Reactive abuse occurs when the victim reacts to the abuse they are experiencing. The victim may scream, toss out insults, or even lash out physically at the abuser. The abuser then retaliates by telling the victim that they are, in fact, the abuser because of this outburst of behaviour.
This is exactly what Tacchan and the rest of the Garou's class do to him. They torment him until he snaps and then act like Garou is the bully when he does so and even the teacher gets in on this, punishing Garou as if he has been the unreasonable crazy child.
The scary thing is how easily narcissists like Tacchan get away with this in real life too. I think often people realise who the real abuser is but don't say anything or stand up to them because they're afraid they will be the next target.
Garou, as the sweet boy that he was, didn't have this social knowledge and dared to point out exactly that, Tacchan's abusive behaviour when Tacchan was bullying another child. And that's where Garou's school nightmare began.
Garou was no longer safe at home (see my previous post) or at school. Everywhere he went, he was being treated like garbage. Like he was a bad, terrible person.
You can see why his anger and at the same time insecurity grows. It's a strange parallel growth of emotion: anger and insecurity but that's how it is.
I think Garou realised, even if he couldn't really articulate it as eloquently as he would have liked, that he was being mistreated for no reason. That the only reason he was labeled as a monster and a bully was because he was an angry target, and ultimately, that's what fuels his righteous anger.
This is injustice that riles him up so much. That innocent people bear the brunt of society's cruelty and malice because of their weakness and naiveté. Their complete lack of being able to stand up for themselves. And that's what drives to go down the path he ends up on. He decides that he is going to learn how to stand up for himself, and not only for himself but for all the traumatised, loner kids like himself. He was going to be their saviour.
I think while not as obvious, the reactive abuse continued to happen throughout his adolescence. The more he saw of this injustice in the world, the angrier and more violent he became as a reaction to this. But his anger and violence were then used as proof to show what a rotten apple he really was.
While Garou's anger is righteous, we can't brush his behaviour away so easily though. He did hurt multiple people quite badly and his own past is not an excuse for this. Especially since the people he beat up didn't personally do anything to him but became the symbol and incarnation of those that abused him. The 'popular'. The heroes are (mostly) attractive and popular just like Tacchan was and it all melds into one thing in his head.
While the Hero Association has it's serious issues, I don't think the vast majority of the heroes are bad people as some like to point out and how Garou is justified in his crusade against them. I think each of the heroes is a flawed person, just like we all are and that's really it.
The heroes are not these terrible abusive narcissists as Garou paints them out to be. I think the vast majority of them genuinely want to save and protect people. Think of Mumen Rider, Child Emperor, Tank Top Master, Metal Bat for example. You would be hardpressed to say they're only doing it for the The Fame or for the opportunity to bully others.
Garou, unfortunately, just happened to be an easy target for Tacchan and his gang. A quiet, traumatised boy from a broken home and a host of issues that he still needs to untangle in the present day (and this complexity is exactly why I adore writing fanfics about him!) What Garou went through was reactive abuse. He took it much much too far and dealt with it the only way he knew how.
However, his plan was never going to ultimately work. It is impossible to change the whole of society just like that. I think he will realise that the best way forward is not scaring people into submission, into being nice to each other but by being the change you want to see really and just helping as many people as he can by being their supporter.
While I personally don't want to see Garou working as a hero, I do want to see him saving and protecting people, working just as himself, not as an employee of the HA, but that's just me. I'm still holding out for him to inherit Bang's dojo and start kids' martial arts classes ^.^
