WIP Wednesday March 20th 2024

HELLO! Welcome to WIP Wednesday, a weekly event that helps myself and other authors by forcing us to make progress on our WIPs (Works in Progress).

How it works: I post the TITLES of (up to 5) documents that I have here, along with three sentences that I've written within the last week to prove that I have indeed been working on things. Then you (yes, you!) can send in an ask to my inbox and specify one of the projects that I listed here. In return, I will write a minimum of three new sentences for that project.

Feel free to send in multiple requests! I still need to catch up on last week's due to some low mental health days that impacted my ability to write, but hopefully I'll catch up quickly and be able to start on this week's soon. <3

Progress from this week: Latest from TLC; "But you're a Trojan, Jean" -Kevin

Despite Kevin's enthusiasm, Jean couldn't help but frown. "It'd be on the opposite side of the country, Kevin. I didn't know you wanted to get rid of me that badly," he said with a scoff.

"You know that's not what I meant."

"Tell me why, then," Jean said, knitting his fingers together and resting his combined hands on the table.

Kevin leaned back and turned his head to the side. His new tattoo of a chess piece was creative, Jean could admit that. But no amount of additional ink or time would ever erase the 2 that Jean knew rested underneath. It would be like walking among graves and admiring the flowers, but refusing to acknowledge the bones below. Eventually, Kevin sighed and acknowledged Jean once more with his piercing gaze. "Because then maybe you'd be able to feel free from all of it," he finally said. "You'd be able to get away from here."

"It's tempting, I'll give you that," Jean said slowly. "But then I'd just be running away. I'd have to start all over again, and Kevin, I don't think I have the energy to do that. Not again."

"So what's you're solution then, Jean?" Kevin said, exasperatedly shaking his hands between them. Jean couldn't help but notice the brace that covered most of Kevin's wrist and palm.

"What if I stayed here?"

"Tell me you're fucking joking."

Jean rolled his eyes.

"No, really Jean. Look me in the eyes and tell me that you're joking," Kevin said and leaned over the table—over him. "This is the opportunity of a lifetime. You could play on one of the best teams in collegiate Exy. You'd be scouted by the most prestigious professional teams. You'd be able to make Court."

"That's never been my goal, Kevin," Jean snapped. He tried to stand, but the attempt to do so was cut short by a bolt of pain that kept him seated instead. "I don't want any of that."

"Well tough luck, Jean!" Kevin said. He never quite yelled—only spoke more sternly. "You've got a financial chain around your throat now, and you're going to need opportunities like this if you're going to survive."

I never wanted that either, Jean thought, but swallowed the words and merely looked away.

Hiya folks! Yes, I am still around! I have some updates (actually, some stuff I might have already shared, but my memory is garbage, so here we are.)

I am no longer a volunteer for Ao3, which is very weird after doing it for so long. I thought that would open up some time, but then everything sort of exploded at once, which has been... challenging! I miss it, though, but I'm afraid if I try to go back my doc would make that face and talk about my stress levels.

I am an editor for the KiScon zine! Submissions are starting to roll in! Holy crapnuggets this is exciting!!!! I get to see such amazing fandom contributions and am so humbled by such creativity.

I know summer is supposed to be my "free time," but someone forgot to tell someone who also forgot to tell someone....and I've been so swamped. Today (June 12) is literally the first time I've had to really sit down and go back through posts, so if you see a post from a year ago with an enthusiastic comment from me that would be why.

I am teaching an ESOL class which is really challenging- teaching adults has its own benefits but there are definitely some unique challenges right now. See: Florida. I can guarantee as soon as some bureaucratic fuck asks me to tell someone's status, I'm absolutely out.

Speaking of Florida, and on a personal note, having a kid (a minor) who is in the middle of transitioning is fucking terrifying. For awhile the bill that says the already overworked state can take my kid out of my house because I love and support their gender-affirming care is like .... I don't think I can accurately describe everything we've gone through in our house for the past few months. I think that fuckery has been blocked on the federal side, but that doesn't really do anything for the people in my neighborhood who are vandalizing our pride stuff, or keying our car, or anything else. My kid has gone from out and proud, to scared and very, very quiet and it breaks my heart. Also I want to stab things. (to be fair that's like 70% of my experience of motherhood lol) I know of so many people who are fleeing this fucking cesspool of a state, but I am not one who can do so financially, which... yeah.

On a sadder note, my dad, an og-star trek nerd, has recently had some really scary medical issues. He was on life support for almost 3 months. If anyone wants to toss some good thoughts his way, feel free.

As for my own side of fandom, that deafening silence you have heard for like..... a year..... is totally going to go away. Uh huh. Yep. Any minute now.

(Also if you're looking for the zombie spirk fic, I took it down- no worries, I will eventually get it back up, but I need to work on it more so I don't have such anxiety about not updating!!)

"Will there be an event this year?"

"Is there going to be an event this year for Pride?"

Short answer: No.

Long answer: No. Not this year, at the very least.

After 2022 completely flopped, Serena and I thought things over. We discussed things. We opted not to do an event for this year. There are a lot of reasons for that, and the biggest one I guess is that we want to "rebrand" ourselves. The original event was created partially out of retaliation towards one side of the fandom, which goes against our personal principles. We want to lift up the community, not get involved in retalitory measures.

There are things that we need to take this year to plan so that in 2024, if all goes well, we can bring the event back. And you know what? It might end up being an alternating year sort of thing. Who knows? Those are the questions Serena and I will ask each other.

That isn't to say no one can do Gundam Wing related things for Pride. Y'all can do whatever you want. There just won't be an event this year (and if there is one, it won't be run by us).

For now, though... We're laying our paintbrush down, and putting the paints away. If anyone else wants to paint After Colony rainbow, you're more than welcome to do your own projects.

I'm sorry to anyone who's disappointed by this. One day in the future we'll take the paintbrushes and paints out again.

What will the "rebranding" involve?

Cleaning up the Tumblr, for one thing. It was put together somewhat hastily, because when the reins were handed over to us for the Gundam Wing Pride event, we had to basically start over from scratch. Things that needed to be updated weren't, or links ended up broken... You get the idea. We're also more than likely going to change the blog URL to something else at some point to make it more "distinctive". There's a lot to discuss.

Could you potentially branch out to more year round things (as opposed to just things happening during June)?

I mean I personally wouldn't object to it. At the same time it all depends on what's going on in our personal lives, and what we're also doing in terms of fandom activities. For example, I do zine stuff (modding as well as contributing), so when that's going on, that's what my main focus is. It all just depends. Like everything else.

Fandom is a labour of love for the both of us. We want to keep it that way. We don't want it to ever feel like work. And that's why we both need to take this event "offline" for a year to figure out where we want to go with things. That's all.

Gallacrafts 6 Month Round Up!

We’re a year into this crafting adventure babies! And not to flex, but we’re still going strong. Once again I’m doing my own 6 month round up post of these wonderfully silly things I created thanks to @gallacrafts.

I wanted to do something with magnets for Theme 7: C’mere to play on that idea they’re just magnetized and drawn to each other. They just want to be where the other is. No matter where that may be. I didn’t get to post this video with my origanal gallacrafts post, but I thought it was cool how you can hear the magnets clicking together. Never before seen gallacrafts footage coming at ya!

Check out this hippy-dippy stargazing wall hanging I put together for Theme 8: Stargazing. The larger stars are made of clothespins that were hot glued together. And something I have learned every time I use a hot glue gun is that I hate using hot glue guns. They’re a literal hot mess. And of course I didn’t forget to incorporate perler beads too, not me.

For Theme 9: Deleted Scenes I chose the 5x01 episode of Ian’s dream sequence, and what better way to capture a dream than a Dreamcatcher. Using perler beads (but of course) I put together this fancy thing. My first foray into a circular design as well as using clear beads, for the center pattern.

Welcome back little Perler bead Ian! I brought back my Theme 7 Ian for Theme 10: EMT Ian and made him a little outfit to get dressed up and ready for work!

Pride month! Theme 11: I’m Fuckin Gay. Look at me, branching out. No perler beads anywhere to be found. For this month I made painted glass jar vases. After mixing food coloring and Mod Podge I painted and then baked the jars at 200 degrees for about 30 minutes. For my original gallacrafts post I used my outdoor pictures of the jars, but I loved this picture of the flowers in front of my potted plants. Best of both worlds. (Side note: I don’t usually purchase cut flowers, but these were an end-of-year gift from my students. And were composted afterwards.)

Thanks to a lot of my friends I was able to include our favorite Ian and Mickey quotes inside each of these tiny origami lucky stars for Theme 12: You’re Under My Skin Man. It was almost 100 stars in total! And yeah, it took quite a bit of time to fold each one, but it was also extremely relaxing and therapeutic to shut of my mind and only concentrate on the task at hand.

"Did you enjoy it?" 

Shuri blinked and squeezed the teddy bear closer to her side. It was cheap. Definitely a carnival toy, but in that moment, it was the softest, most luxurious creation in the world. A soft blush came to her cheeks. 

"Yeah," she finally breathed. "This has been the best night of my life." 

 Cam's breath caught in their throat. All those nights... the pain, the rejection. Now, it all seemed like distant nightmare. Their bottom lip quivered. 

“Can I… can I hug you?” 

She blinked, shocked for a moment, then confused, and hurt, and happy, before softly nodding and moving the giant bear to the side without dropping it. They slowly entered the embrace. She buried her face in their neck and took a deep breath, so happy to know that all of their hard work had paid off. They were healing. They were becoming stronger.

PRIDE WEEK #6: OUMOTA

Our apologies for the missed day- Kokichi just refuses to get ready! Even with Kaito's scoldings, he's still uncooperative and won't get ready for the big prom day. Despite his outbursts, perhaps he's... shy? Here we are with our final Pride Week ship in the zine, and it's @/_soldier__el with OUMOTA! She says, "I love oumota because of their dynamics in the game, enemies to lovers always do something. Plus their contrast in thoughts and morals is really charming but they are two sides of the same coin, it just doesn't let you get bored thinking about them... and chapter 5 did their magic of course. About their identities... I'm non binary myself and I see Kokichi and Kaito both as non binary, everything is simple. But actually I don't know it just fits into their images for me. Also Kaito is so much gay. You can't prove me wrong"
