In the 1950s, Jack and Irving Rosenthal, owners of Palisades Amusement Park in New Jersey came to the realization that the greatest concentration of comic book readers in America was in the New York metropolitan area, and began an aggressive advertising campaign in the pages of DC comic books, putting coupons for free admission and free rides in the books' pages. The park was very popular for a time, despite a scandal surrounding de facto racial segregation in its pool area, but closed in 1971. The land on which it stood is now occupied by condos.
