indra lennox // character intro
name: indra lennox
rank: general, seventh march
alignment: true neutral
“I was raised to be a general, to lead, to conquer. I was born to do this. And all of a sudden, just because the Royals couldn’t see through the smoke to the truth, I’m on the run. With you. God, Chaos couldn’t have orchestrated this better herself.”
indra lennox was chosen for the academy of generals at the age of four. he was given seven nights to say goodbye to the only life he knew. at the time, he did not understand why his mother cried when the letter was delivered.
twenty-two years later, indra has been sent out to lead a platoon to the front lines of what has begun to be referred to as the never-ending war. he has been sent out on missions like this many times before. nothing could go wrong.
and then everything goes wrong.
indra does not wake when smoke fills his tent during the first night of the journey. he does not wake when his lieutenant runs, screaming, out of the tent, only to stumble, fall, and not get up again.
general indra lennox does not wake up until the smoke is so thick and the fire so hungry that he fears there is no chance of his survival. but a voice calls through the destruction, and he calls back.
when indra regains lucidity, he finds he’s been rescued by one of his own foot soldiers, and that the city— no, not the city, the Royals themselves— are coming after him, armed with charges of treason and sabotage.
so he bands together with a soldier he thinks is below him and a runaway royal he knows is above, and hopes that together, they might just survive.

jude st. nox // character intro
name: jude st. nox
rank: enlisted soldier, third march
alignment: neutral good
“All of us, in our perfect lines, step forward at once, footsteps echoing on the slick cobblestones in unison. One, two. One, two. March on, soldiers.
I can say I’m not a mindless soldier as much as I want. It won’t change the fact that I’m marching.”
jude st. nox has left the city twice before she is pulled away again, sent to the neverending war she thought she’d escaped. the royals, those rulers who’ve never seen a moment of battle, tell her they are winning against the daylight, securing the stars. they tell her the fight is worth it.
the rumors jude hears disagree, and she isn’t so sure she believes the royals anymore.
when her unit burns and she and a rather bigoted general are the only survivors, jude is forced to seek out the Goddess, with the help of said general and a runaway royal, and plead for assistance in her own personal war.
but the she and the general don’t seem to be on the same page, and her conflicting feelings for her royal companion may just tear them apart before they can make it to the Temple where the Goddess resides— the Temple that may not even be real.

asa pax // character intro
name: asa pax
title: daughter of the viscountess of Hesperus
alignment: lawful neutral
“Before I knew it, I was running. The gates were open and the light was heavy and I was running away from everything I ever knew.
“Will they take me back, if I turn around? Do I want them to?”
asa pax was born special. that’s what her parents tell her, anyway. she was born with a connection to the stars and a seat on the court of the royals in her future.
but what happens if she tosses that away?
it happens too fast for her to remember it well. one moment she’s draped in robes embossed in the sign of the court, diamonds shining in her hair. the next? the robes are on the floor of her bedroom, and she’s tripping over her feet, running out of the city in a gown and cloak devoid of any court identification. there are soldiers in front of her and the city behind, and asa is running.
little does she know what she’s running into.
she meets two soldiers on the road, two people, and all of a sudden her life of moonlight and stars doesn’t look so shiny and perfect anymore. what she learns seems to turn her starlight into drops of pure darkness.
she finds solace with the people she’s found. but will it be enough to save her from the court she’s left?

Happy Meet and Greet Monday! How would your OCs respond to "Do you work well with others?"
tysm for the ask!! i’ll answer for the patchwork of stars cast
jude: i work well with others! i do! i marched with three different platoons, and my team building skills are what helped bring the gang together! well, that and our fugitive status, but still.
asa: as a diplomat and member of the household of the royals, my ability to work alongside others is virtually unparalleled. that being said, if you steal my jello, i can and will scream. so loud. you have no idea. stay away from my jello.
indra: listen. i’m great at faking civility, okay? give me a situation where i have to strategize with a team any day, i can take it. but if you ask me to help you put together an ikea shelf, i will accidentally trigger armageddon. it’s inevitable. remind me to stay away from ikea.
thanks again!

for oc ask memes; for indra: wardrobe, track & field, zodiac, & chess board. for taylor: microscope & wildcard!
thanks for the ask!
for indra lennox, from patchwork of stars
wardrobe: what is your oc’s style like?
if you were to picture a military uniform, all crisp and unwrinkled and pristine and rather stiff, and then picture that style but in every piece of clothing one wears, that would be indra.
track and field: is your oc athletic?
absolutely. if p.e. were a thing, indra would be the kid who was either captain of the kickball team or picked first.
zodiac: what’s their sign? do they care?
the planet upon which the story takes place has 16 moons, which i’m still trying to figure out, and their system revolves around moon cycles, so technically indra doesn’t have a sign the way we do, and thus, he does not care.
chessboard: is your oc logical? a planner?
yes. indra is arguably the most logical one of the group. he has been trained from a very young age to analyze a situation before going in, and to use any means necessary to complete a goal. he plans ahead for literally everything. i have a headcanon for a domestic!au where indra has a meal plan for every month the day before the month actually starts.
for taylor bond, from four of crows
microscope: zoom in. describe the little, insignificant details about your oc.
i am going to interpret this as physical details. taylor is actually quite particular about her appearance. she’s one of those people who is put together to the point where they look disheveled, if you know what i mean? she wears her watch on her right wrist, and keeps it so loose that there’s no telling if it’s face up or dangling off. she has a tattooo of a bumblebee behind her left ear. the only belt she owns, she rarely wears, but it has four holes, and she refuses to buy/wear any belts that don’t.
wildcard: talk about anything you want!
ok i actually have this really solid idea of what taylor’s bedroom looks like. hear me out. she painted the walls pastel yellow when she was thirteen. charlie helped her string fairy lights on the ceiling, so it has a night-sky look if you squint very hard. taylor went through a paper airplane phase, and she strung some together and hung them up on around her room. her bed is pushed to one wall, so she has plenty of floor space to service whatever new thing she’ll try out next. gymnastics? yoga? painting? embroidery? check, check, check, and check. she has one window, and she lined the sill with little potted succulents. she’s kept them alive for six years and they are her proudest achievement.

Happy MagM! How would your characters do when drama occurs??
i’ll answer for the patchwork cast, since i did blackbird for the last ask :)
jude: just rolls with it. at this point, she’s seen so much shit that she’s good with just going with the flow until things calm down and she can try and get a hold of the situation. the one exception to this, however, is if the “drama” endangers one of her few friends, in which case, well, if you see a warrior woman completely disobeying orders and just running after everyone she cares about with reckless disregard for her own safety, you know who it is.
indra: he’s a general. if “drama” is happening, he’s led himself and whoever is following him right to it on purpose. he is prepared and as stoic as ever. don’t ever catch him unawares, though, because if you do, you might find yourself missing a limb. or two. or three. indra doesn’t like surprises.
asa: she’s woefully out of her element in the midst of physical drama (ie a battle), but if by “drama” you mean “a disagreement between two houses,” well, she’s been training her whole life for that. asa is really more of a cleanup sort of gal, going in after everything has gone down to bandage the wounded and do what she can for the dying. in the heat of battle, she’d rely more on the practical fighting expertise of jude and indra.
thanks so much for the ask!! i really enjoyed answering it!

wip intro - patchwork of stars
title: patchwork of stars
genre: high fantasy / ya-ish / lgbtq+
POV: first person
summary:
the city of darkness.
the city of starlight.
the city of the moon.
the city of many names.
nobody seems to realize that the city, whatever name you choose to call it, is broken at its core. fractured, like spiderweb cracks on a mirror.
people say that if you live long enough, you see the same eyes in different people. nobody in the city lives long enough to vouch for that.
nobody except the royals. the same royals who send lines of soldiers out into the daylight, not bothered that only a scattered few come back. and if they come back, they don’t come back the same.
Jude has been sent to the daylight. it’s a difficult thing, knowing you’re not coming back. how do you say goodbye to a place that was never a home to you? you can’t just leave it unacknowledged, but then again, you never loved it.
the fractures at the core of the city are spreading, branching out, breaking up the people’s already fragile foundation. Jude can see it in the way people walk, in the way they stare down at the road and don’t look up. she can see it in the barred gates to the court of the royals.
legends say that the moon goddesses will protect the city, their city of dark. deserters are hunted by the city, but if Jude is deserting to save it, the city— the royals — can’t hunt her down. can they?
themes: struggle for truth, forbidden love, coming-of-age, survival
status: beginning first draft
includes: visibly lgbtq+ characters, bi main character, lesbian main character, found family, imperialistic greed, magic, magical abilities, and I am determined to fit this concept for a magical lizard I have in there somewhere (new travel companion perhaps? I’ll figure it out)
characters:
jude st. nox: a soldier, molded into the perfect example of everything the city wants her to be. she doesn’t ask questions, doesn’t defy the royals— that is, not until she watches a fellow soldier, just a girl, run over by the very army she was forced to join. everything the royals have spread as truth carved in stone suddenly seems paper-thin, and jude sets off on a journey to find the moon goddesses and convince them to help the city start anew.
asa pax: daughter of a court royal, raised with expensive gowns and rigid rules. she didn’t mean to run away. it just sort of... happened. one minute she was inside the gates, and the next, she had climbed over them and was running. where to, she had no idea. but two people running from the city, however different they may be, are bound to run into each other eventually.
indra lennox: sent to the academy of generals at age four and determined to become a decorated general. when a battle goes sideways and his platoon burns, the city suspects him of sabotage, of traitorous intent. indra is forced to run, escape the swift blade of the city while he still can. nobody has ever heard of anyone successfully running from the city, but then again, nobody seems to hear anything the city doesn’t want them to. it’s a surprise when indra runs into two other fugitives. it’s even more surprising when they allow him to join them.

happy wbw!!! what sort of education system is there in place? and how does one go up through the system?
thanks for the ask!!
to be completely honest, I haven’t put much thought into the education system in patchwork, though I do have a couple ideas that I’ll list below :D
everyone goes through the basic schooling program, starting at age four and going until about 9 or 10. this is funded through tax collection, and is of no extra cost to the people (think public school-ish)
if your parents can afford to pay for further education, it’s possible to continue schooling for up to another 10 years. mostly, people who can afford to continue only do so until the age of 16, after which they find an apprenticeship or some other way to make money and begin their own life
it is very rare for someone not from a royal house to continue at school for the full extra 10 years; royals inherit their roles, so they do not have to worry about wasting time they should be spending building a life at school.
as such, the last 4 years (from the age of 16 to 20) is very specialized, and courses are catered specifically to each royal house.
there are a few cases every year where a child is taken at the age of four and enrolled into the academy of generals, a school created and maintained for the sole purpose of training the perfect soldiers to lead the city’s army. indra lennox was one of these children.
the academy of generals boasts of its intense training until the age of 16, at which point the students are sent out—alongside pre-existing generals who have already graduated— to their first battle. depending how the student does, they either continue training until the age of 18, at which point they are given a regiment of their own and sent out to the war, or they are asked to leave the academy and begin a new life elsewhere. there are rare cases of students being asked to leave before the age of 16. any and all decisions regarding a student’s placement and continuation are made by the court of royals.
thats all
I guess I had more than I thought lmao
gonna be annoying and tag all yall from the patchwork of stars taglist since I haven’t posted in a while, feel free to ignore: @herondalelucies @emdrabbles @marie-writess @sxnrising @reveriecs @mayvinwrites @harkaherald @semblanche @hamartian @ikilledmyocs @peachiekittenwrites
