Was going to draw my future headcanon of the surviving perfect court (they get chess pieces tattoos while drunk during their olympic years, fact they are deeply mortified at) and i just realized.

How the fuck did Riko think Jean was going to be part of his perfect court when he's not american. He's french. He would not be able to play for america in the olympics, because he's not from the country. did riko moriyama genuinely forget jean was from france and no one corrected him. Did people genuinely forget jean was french because he spoke that little. How.

It's kind of funny (heartbreaking) that there were multiple Ravens who wanted a number, to the point where some tried to manipulate Jean into helping them one way or another, but none of them would have been next in line. No matter what they did, there was always someone ahead of them on the list. Someone who wasn't even on the team. That someone wasn't Neil. Neil was a surprise to everyone, including Riko. That someone was Andrew.

Kevin might have had to beg Riko to go visit Andrew, and Riko might have laughed at Kevin and dismissed Andrew when Andrew turned him down, but make no mistake, if Andrew had accepted and had become a Raven, he would have taken that #4 spot within his first year.

If we're being real, Andrew had more of a chance at becoming part of the perfect Court than any of those Ravens ever had. Even Jean thinks of Andrew as one of them.

The other Ravens never stood a chance.

okay so maybe controversial opinion, but perfect court is actually just a sketchy kpop boyband in a trench coat

ya know, the kind of kpop group that has abusive management, a cult-like fanbase, mistreatment on daily basis, fucked up eating rules. the kind that doesn't pay their members, exploits them, doesn't give a fuck about their health, preys on their talents and dreams… you see where I’m going

on a more serious note though: I love perfect court. I love it bc they could achieve great things, bc it’s like a ridiculously overpowered final boss, I love it bc it’s messy and problematic and fascinating and bc it’s actually devastatingly sad if I let myself think about it

I think perfect court would bring out the worst in all of them, and I’d like to see it happen in the same way I’d like to know how it feels to get shot — mostly just hypothetically, morbidly curious and slightly guilty for thinking it in the first place

I don’t think jean would survive. I think kevin would bring riko’s attention to andrew and riko would “gift” andrew to kevin. I think kevin would realise some day that he ruined people’s lives with his passion for exy and his strive for perfection, and he would die one day full of grief and guilt. I will say that I have a severe bone to pick with ao3 Neil but specifically with Raven!Neil and other similar Canon divergence fics in which people cannot write him in the Nest/in proximity to Riko without turning him into either Kevin or Jean, both in terms of personality and plot beats/importance. We could be having a real conversation about what that universe would actually be like and how a different upbringing would affect the Neil we know and instead Im out here being tricked into reading All For The Game 2: without all the parts I like edition

100% AGREE WITH YOU ON THIS!!!!!!! my thing with most raven!neil aus is that often his personality goes entirely unchanged, and it puts him in a position where, like you said, he becomes kevjean's weird divorce kid. to me, when an author writes the same personality in a different setting for raven!neil, it feels so... shallow?! easy?! truly almost lazy. i think a nathaniel who was brought up to be the butcher's sucessor would be so different from the neil who was raised by mary on the run they would be entirely different characters. i think the neil we know would be changed in irreversible ways by being raised as the butcher's first son, and his personality would be closer to riko's than most aftg fans i feel would be comfortable acknowledging

for me the fun part of raven!neil is the way neil would rock perfect court dynamics if he was raised as nathaniel. riko and kevin would not have been as close if nathaniel was there with them; i don't think nathaniel would take kevin's place so much as he would be in a position where he, as a first son and the direct sucessor of the butcher, would be in somewhat of an equal footing with riko inside the perfect court (but never outside of it, let it be clear). in a situation like this i don't even think kevin and nathaniel would have become friends — i think kevin would have still left and nathaniel would have been the number one hound dog trying to get him back, going way further than jean did in the books to make sure kevin is back where he belongs. actually now that i'm thinking of it i think nathaniel would be pretty close to how andrew is in the first book, which would be very interesting to see :)

jean's life would remain horrible either way. i don't think nathaniel would ever be his anchor so much as he would've been a necessary ally to jean, someone who steps between him and riko because he is in a position to do so and because nathaniel needs jean to keep up with him in court, so in a way that would help jean. i don't know how kevjean's friendship would go in this universe though: would kevin being less close to riko give them more space to be friends or would jean's association with nathaniel push kevin away from the perfect court as a whole? to be perfectly honest, i think kevin and nathaniel would compete to be riko's number two for a long time, and i don't think kevin would win. truly telenovela levels of drama

so. i fucking love the concept of the perfect court. of nathaniel having never been neil, because he got recruited as third and went to the nest with kevin. of jean being fourth, neil's pair.

and, in addition, i love myself a poly. so ofc they're all crippling obsessed with each other mutually. and in this.. not necessarily talked about directly relationship but mutually understood between all of them.

i do also love the idea of, eventually, andrew being scouted. he's convinced to be a raven, in whichever way. neil is immediatly interested, kevin finds him annoying but gets drawn in pretty soon. jean and riko probably dont fuck w him at first, riko more than jean, but eventually do settle when they see how andrew fits them well.

andrew finding this group of equally broken people who found safety and comfort in each other? him refusing their attempts? slowly falling between them and quickly getting just as obsessed?

andrew being the fifth. getting the tattoo. new member of the perfect court. new member of their little thing. probably the reason why all of them will have to acknowledge it verbally for the first time to accommodate for andrew.

i just truly do like the concept, how different riko could have been with neil there since always, how kevin and jean would have been. and also just the other shit that comes with it lmao. but yeah.

Am I the only one that thinks Riko might have turned out to be a bit of a better person of Nathaniel was put in the nest? Like Ik he never had the option to be a good person *grooming* but I feel like he would have seen and heard enough about neils/nathans relationship, which would be his closest connection to the main branch Kengo/Ichirou, and just seen it for what it was and not try so hard to seen above everyone to earn their validation.....just a thought.
