What’s your render process? It’s so pretty ^.^

I'll use an out-of-context Night drawing to share the process XD

So first I'll make my sketch, line art, and then my flat colors. A lot of the time, I'll add in some gradients and subtle glow at this stage just to add in some more color variation for when rendering comes around. I also dont draw in all the details yet — like the string that'll be around his brooch later or his face marks. Whatever I feel like will get in the way of the painting process and will be easier to add in later, i leave out for now.

Now the ✨️ugly portion.✨️ For the lighting and shading, I use a paint brush. For the shadows, I'll usually pick them from the wheel myself, rather than using a Multiply layer. Then, for the lights, I'll almost always use a nice bright orange color on a Luminosity layer (note that this is on Paint Tool Sai — the equivalent to Luminosity is an Add layer on most other programs) and slap those on where I think the lights go.

Shit's really messy at this point djejejwj but that doesn't matter toooo much. 80% of the drawing comes from the next step, the painting. It doesn't matter much if ur lights and shadows are messy rn cause it's gonna get all cleaned up anyway aha.

And now we're onto the painting, and this is the point where we merge everything down into one layer and start going ham :0. Usually, what I do is I take Paint Tool Sai's Water brush + Marker brush and start blending out all the colors and cleaning everything up. I color pick whatever part of the drawing I wanna clean up, then I'll blend it out and define the shapes until i feel satisfied with how it looks :DD this part of the drawing took around 2 to 3 hours maybe? Like I said, this is most of the drawing process aha

AND NOW THE BEST BIT, THE COLOR CORRECTION AND FINAL DETAILS !! This is where I make the glowy bits REALLY glow, and make the colors look a little more cohesive :0. Also, I up the contrast more, make them darks look darker and them lights look lighter >:D

“The Inquisitor And Her Commander”

As some of you may have noticed, I am a huge fan of the Dragon Age games, especially Dragon Age Inquisition. Last year, I had planned on drawing all the main [playable] characters up until Dragon Age Day (which took place on December 4th), but I just didn’t have time to draw more than three characters (the Inquisitor, Solas, & Varric…please check them out in my gallery) due to being busy with work and other things. I’ll eventually draw the other characters when I gather more motivation to do so.

For now, please enjoy this piece. I hope everybody likes this. I worked very hard on this artwork. It took longer than usual to create, due to all the small details, the poses, & the armour. (Armour is not easy to draw for me!) For those of you who are DAI fans, you may recognize the flowers: Crystal Grace on the bottom and Andraste’s Grace on the top. I know Andraste’s Grace is not in DAI, but I thought it would be pretty to add to the artwork (since it technically exists in the Thedas world).

My OC Inquisitor is named Bryony Trevelyan. She is actually my 2nd Inquisitor character, the first one having been an elf (which I may draw someday). I had been playing DAI for the 3rd time, a few months ago, as a male character (since I wanted him to be in a romance with Dorian, so yes, my male Inquisitor is gay), but I stopped for a bit since I am playing Skyrim at the moment (with updates & mods). Anyway, back on the main subject: I drew Inquisitor Bryony Trevelyan in the Armor of the Dragon Hunter outfit (from the Jaws of Hakkon DLC), which I had altered the colours by tinting it with Veil Quartz. I based her crown from concept art for DAI. So much armour in the game! Which I love, especially since the DA games don’t give female characters the stereotypical skimpy outfits…I love that I get to make my female characters wear bad-ass armour.

Cullen Rutherford is such an adorable and slightly awkward character around my Inquisitor. I knew I had to romance him right away, because his looks are the type of man I am attracted to in real life. (I’m not going to lie…in the game, he’s hot for a video game character. Ha ha!) I’ve always enjoyed the flirting in the DA games when it comes to the relationships. The best scene was right before their first kiss, when Cullen got interrupted by a member of the Inquisition, and then got mad about it. Ha ha. I liked when my Inquisitor asked Cullen, “The day you kissed me on the battlements…how long had you wanted to do that?” And Cullen replied (with a laugh), “Longer that I should admit.” Awwwww.

I also liked the part in the Winter Palace, when all these people were flirting with Cullen, and one asked him, “Are you married, Commander?” And Cullen replied, “Not yet, but I am…already taken.” Double awwww, because a loyal man is so dreamy. :3 I actually had Bryony & Cullen get married in the last DLC. :3 They adopt a Mabari (dog), too!

I love DAI too much. :D It’s such a fun game with the most gorgeous graphics (especially on the Xbox Series X).

Drawn with Sakura Pigma Micron pens, then coloured in with a mixture of Copic Markers & Ohuhu Markers. I used Koi Watercolours for the background. White accents done with both a gel pen and white watercolour. Gold acrylic was used for the Inquisition Symbol & the lines, which the scanner absolutely murders...the gold is such a pretty, shimmery metallic in real life. The light green around my art was done in Photoshop Elements.

- Oh great, ANOTHER Leo. At least you’re not running around at the dead of night getting lost and losing your phone…. Right? RIGHT?!?

- He loves you! He does! It’s just… When he sees the remains of your 3AM artist mayhem it just makes him question everything. Just a bit.

- The sketchbooks… The loose paper… The pens, pencils, and markers all over the place… God it haunts him in his dreams. I mean, how does a marker make it behind the GOD DAMNED PILLOWS?!? HELLO?!?!

- Has seriously considered buying restraints. Don’t test him… He will. (must we remember his Makoto moment…?)

- He thinks it’s stupid that you trash so much art. You’re going to suffocate your trashcan with all that beautiful messy art.

- And don’t think you can get away with digital art!! He’s seen your file names!!! Disgusting. How do you even manage to find anything? You don’t? Explains a lot.

- It doesn’t matter where you crash, as you’ll always find yourself back in bed with all your tasmanian devil destruction cleanly put away.

- He always makes sure you get enough sleep, enough to eat, and plenty to drink. And don’t go slouching around like an idiot! It’ll ruin that pretty pretty appearance of yours… Seriously, SOOOO annoying.

- When you show him your recent art piece that has survived Hurricane Y/N, he smiles, just a bit. Butttt like the tsundere he is he quickly covers it up and says your eyes are just playing tricks. You draw too much. Go to sleep before he has to go through the hassle of getting you glasses!!!

- What’s that? You want to know his opinion? Well, of course you do! He is the MOST qualified person for this. He is a model after all~~ He gives you a healthy balance of compliments and criticism. He knows what getting crappy criticism is like, and he never wants you to experience that too. Especially from him.

- Once you’ve left, he smiles and admires your work. He loves it! It doesn’t matter if it’s the next Picasso masterpiece or not, it was made by you and that’s special. He really wants to see where your art goes, and he will stop at nothing to make sure that becomes a reality.

- Leo Tsukinaga -

- Crazy artist two, electric boogaloo.

- The team rocket theme plays when the two of you are seen together.

- “PREPARE FOR TROUBLE! AND MAKE IT DOUBLE!”

- Leo is genuinely SO happy he’s with you. Seriously. He’s never letting you go. Forget Anzu when he has YOU! :D His best, most beautiful muse!

- Naru walks into your shared room with Leo, it’s literally all paper and various stationary. She can’t even see you two!! She sighs and closes the door, she can’t take this much longer….

- Leo sees your art, and he glows. Like, LITERALLY glows. (god applied glow ink to him for 1800 seconds.)

- Your art just makes him so happy and giggly. He’s already hugging you and bouncing up and down like no tomorrow.

- Sometimes, he sees music in your art. Like, both figuratively and literally. There are now at least 20 songs that have come from the back of your sketchbook and 20 more that was written i n your sketchbook.

- If you were to EVER degrade your art in any fashion, well, Leo will get very grumpy. And whiny. And clingy. He’s NOT leaving your side and he will NOT shut up until you agree that all your art is beautiful and you’re super talented and super attractive and amazing and funny and- it never ends…

- There have been multiple instances where all the idols in Ensemble Square have found washed up and stranded pages filled with doodles and music notes. They’re just… not even surprised. They’ve even made a competition from it!

- Whoever finds the most abandoned children of the artistic mayhems ™️ gets *idk insert something that sounds appealing i can’t think of anything.*

- Now, if you decide to come with Leo to Florence, well…. Hell hath no fury like an Izumi annoyed. Buttttt that’s another story for another time ;)

Shadow Meta Series Post #1: Clocks and Masculinity in Shadow

This is the first post in my Shadow meta series on technology, time, and horror. You can check out my introduction and plan for that in this post!

Let's start the first post off by looking at clocks, clocks, clocks and a dose of toxic masculinity!

When Dan first arrives at the school in the first episode, he enters the school with brother Anurak. The transition is marked by a shot of the school: a clock above writing that simply says “school building”

This immediately signals that Dan is entering a space where time and temporality will be thematically relevant.

The question is: what role is time playing here?

Is this simply a visual hint of how Dan and the audience will experience the slipping of time throughout the story? Or is it doing more?

My initial hypothesis was that clocks would be a visual marker for when we would either get a flashback or have Dan jumping around in time. However, while this pattern didn’t pan out entirely, there was a particular episode where this was absolutely the case.

So let’s jump in! I’ll go over a few things I noticed and then do a reading of episode 4 in particular.

Places where we see clocks:

The face of the school building

It’s shown in episode 1 as a transition shot when Dan arrives

The lower half is shown as a transition shot after Dan’s first dream post losing his ring in episode

Later in episode 7 we get a full close up just before we see the students watch Anan and his father. This is right before the scene in the art classroom.

2. There’s a clock in Dan and Josh’s dorm

This would make sense as a symbol of atemporality since much of Dan’s dreaming takes place here. But it’s not always visually shown. It shows up more frequently when Josh is in the scene, and is on his side of the room divided by the line on the wall

3. Anurak’s office

There are at least two clocks in his office.

4. Joe’s office/instructors' office (there’s more than one desk so I’m assuming the latter)

5. The headmaster’s office

It doesn’t show up in early episodes, but it does show up later (it can be seen when Dan and Anan are called in)

6. The infirmary

We don’t see it in every scene, but it is present when Nai and Dan first chat about homophobia and Nai’s past

7. Throughout episode 4

The hospital room where Dan’s father stays

Dan’s home in his flashbacks has multiple clocks

Dan’s dad almost always wears a wrist watch

Other Notes:

I was expecting to find a clock in the art room where reality and dream slip for Dan. Like a few other moments, Dan’s and our sense of time is also being played with in the scene. But no clock! I’ll return to why I think this might be after going over episode 4

Nowhere did I see a digital clock. Every clock in the show (at least that I noticed) is analog! For context, digital wrist watches have been on the market since the 1970s and radio alarm clocks with mechanical-digital displays were available by the late 1960s.

Episode 4: Chess

While my theory that clocks would signal temporal shifts and flashbacks didn’t consistently pan out on the whole, it did do so in one particular episode. In episode 4, we have Dan navigating his relationship with his father. Every time we jump between present and past there is a clock to be found.

Our flashback journey starts with Dan falling asleep in his dorm. We get a shot of the room in this scene that fully shows the clock on the wall. Instead of a dream, we move to a flashback of Dan’s father in the hospital. His hospital room is shown with a clock.

After this point, most of the flashbacks occur between scenes in the present that take place in or nearby this hospital room, even if the clock is not shown in every scene.

Within the flashbacks, there is always at least one clock (with a particular exception I'll explore as well)

The first flashback shows us Dan’s parents fighting. Both his mom and dad have wrist watches on in this scene. While his mom never wears one after this, his dad continually wears his.

In the next scene we can see Dan's dad has his watch when they visit his mom. He hesitates to comfort Dan raising his left hand but not actually placing it on Dan's shoulder.

Next we see Dan’s mom and Anurak talking in the hospital. There’s no clock…yet! Dan and his father enter, and Dan’s dad has his wrist watch on. Time and Dan’s dad enter together as an impending threat in this scene.

With this in mind, I’d argue that clocks/watches, at least within this episode symbolize patriarchal violence and toxic masculinity. Or perhaps even the violence of heteronormative time (see my previous post about hamlet and queer time here).

In the following flashbacks we see the build up to his mother’s suicide. In addition to the dad’s wrist watch, we also get a number of clocks showing up in these scenes. When Dan’s dad confronts his mom about her letter with Anurak, there is a wooden clock set behind the desk. As Dan and his mother eat breakfast we can see a clock next to the kitchen. And finally when Dan finds his mother, there is a clock set on the wall next to the stairwell.

It’s as if the clocks are bearing down on her, a constant presence like the abuse she faces. In this way she is forced to escape time and patriarchal abuse through death, much like Dan begins to escape through his dreams and the shadow.

In the next flashback we have his mother’s funeral. Once again Dan’s father has his watch on. However, Dan chooses to go outside, to leave this temporal space, and this is when he meets Anurak again. Their discussion is free of clocks/watches, much like the scene between Anurak and Dan’s mom before his father arrived.

Given that Anurak is surrounded by multiple clocks in the present, it’s hard to get a sense of what this might be doing outside of episode 4. But within it, Anurak continues to be unmarked by time. Perhaps this signals his relationship with Dan at the time which was one of safety and refuge from his father’s violence. Or perhaps, if we read him as the one armed man (see @wen-kexing-apologist 's big brained post on this theory here) it's a mark of how he falls outside of the traditionally masculine through his queerness and disability. The left arm is where wrist watches are traditionally worn after all, and it is the left hand that Dan's father raises to hit his mother. If Anurak is the one armed man, he can’t signal masculinity in this way. Perhaps too, the fact that Anurak has clocks in the present suggests his changed relationship with Dan, from one of safety and escape to one of conformity and confinement.

The connection between patriarchal abuse and clocks is brought home in the following scenes as Dan and father return home. The transition to them in the dining room directly focuses on the dad’s watch first. We don't see it, but we know from earlier scenes that the kitchen has a clock as well. All of this is framing Dan’s return to a space dominated by his father and his abuse. And this culminates in Dan’s father forcing him to eat food he’s allergic to.

As the flashbacks wrap up, we get Dan in his bed having a shadow nightmare. It’s hard to tell 100% but it does look like there’s a clock on his night stand. When he sees the shadow he runs to the hallway calling for his dad. His dad doesn’t answer, and like his absence there are no clocks in these shots at all. And it is here that Anurak enters and offers Dan a sense of safety, a space of comfort outside of his father’s abuse and outside of time.

At this point the flashbacks are over. In the present Dan slips into a dream where he’s able to talk with his father. They discuss abuse and Dan’s dad makes it clear how he views masculinity in a rigid and toxic way. Throughout most of their conversation, his dad’s left wrist is hidden. That is, until Dan flips the table. The watch’s presence becomes visible again at the moment Dan loses control of the space. This culminates in Dan beating his father, who, to Dan’s horror, suggests he grew up just like him. In this moment time symbolizes not just his father’s abuse, but the possibility and horror in the idea that such patriarchal violence will be internalized and passed on to the next generation.

Concluding thoughts:

While clocks in episode 4 are used to visually mark shifts in time, they also come symbolize patriarchal violence and the oppressiveness Dan and his mother felt living with his father. We might consider then the role of other clocks in the show as perhaps an extension of this symbolism rather than a marker of moments where time will blur. The school itself is framed by a clock, and it is certainly a space where Dan, Nai, and Trin all experienced heteronormative violence. Even in spaces like the infirmary where Dan and Nai open up to one another in a way counter to this framework, the clock hovers over the space.

With this in mind, I want to return to the art classroom. In episodes 1-7 this is probably one of the most striking moments where reality blurs for Dan. It’s also a moment where his sense of time is played with (notice how he jumps back to reality before even speaking with Nai, more on this scene here and here). Yet there’s no clock to be seen in the room. This is in contrast to two scenes earlier when we are given a full close up of the school clock.

This might be a pre-emptive reading, but I would put forth the idea that Dan and the show are offering up a queerer avenue to time. Dan, Nai, and Trin all experience the supernatural in ways that transcend linear time. Through haunting and the blurring of a sense of time the show is working to explore the tension between queerness and heteronormative violence. The school clock looms, but Dan still enters a space in the art classroom and through his waking dream that can’t quite be contained.

I talk a bit about this in my post on hamlet and queer time, but there's a lot more to be said from a Thai context. In her book Ghostly Desires, Arnika Fuhrmann discusses the way some contemporary Thai cinema has used haunting as a way to forge a space at the moment of death where desire, particularly queer desire, can operate. This lies in contrast to the time of the nation and the time of capital which flatten time in order to shore up ideas of national identity and sexual normativity. It’s all quite a bit more nuanced than I’ve put here. I plan to write a much longer post exploring this dynamic in Shadow through discussions of horror films and the context of changes in Thailand in the late 90s and aughts. Coming soon!

Good Morning!

Happy 1st of November!! \o/ I hope all who were doing inktober are winning, everyone who chases fancy drops in FF14 is having blessed rolls and all of the Sun Haven squad is enjoying the new updates...and romanceables! And...all who attempt NaNoWriMo are prepared!!

So Inktober... as expected I got behind xD; But it's fine, between everything else I managed fairly well all things considered. I didn't want to post progress and stress myself so hopefully sketchbook flip through when I'm done...somewhere in November ... :D;; I did make it up to around 12th-13th and then slowed down and gave up :D;; but picking a smaller sketchbook definitely helped!

I wasn't as active in October as I would've wanted, truth is work gets extremely busy after September with all the holidays and events, it's honestly like a landslide lol More often than not I don't have the energy to draw or do much beyond watching a bit of tv and go to bed super early. I'm starting to fall behind with my Sneric comic work flow too, which bothers me to no end xD;; But I hope I can catch up in the weekends.

Speaking of... I made myself a new cozy creative corner by ..combining some old furniture pieces... it looks wonky but it works xD;;

I just need a bit of fairy lights to attach around and I'll be set! :> Sadly now come the days of it's dark when i go to work and dark when I come back from work ... u.u and weekends can be so short... I also got to clean up and throw away old art supplies.. which reminded me once more, I need to use my markers more before they dry up lol;;;;

I don't know how I will fit time to read between everything I try to do buuut I ordered myself some spooky books during the Halloween discounts and kinda excited to get lost into some murder mystery and disconnect from the web for a bit!! :D So I hope I get to sweep these books through the month as well!

But yeah, I'm around, I'm just going to be permanently tired pigeon until mid December it seems ;u;! I hope you all are doing well! A thank you to all the new faces who followed this blog recently!! I hope I'll provide something fun to follow :D I'm still very much into Sun Haven, even if I'm so slow and barely fit time to play, I still have fun drawing Ary and Claude and I'm so floored by how much people seem to like them! Thank you so, so much!

On McCoy's birthday, he spends so long trying to find the perfect (and most practical) gift for Spock.

But gift-shopping for Spock is Hard even on a good day

Sorry, I'm dumb and forgot how Q&A actually works on Tumblr... 8'D McCoy had considered himself quite the observant friend for many years, but after meeting Spock, he began questioning it. Despite the seemingly cold exterior, his coworker—now friend, maybe more—was thoughtful and mindful of everyone around him. Spock claimed it was to improve the ship's and her crew's functioning, but McCoy knew it was more than that. And after he received his Spock's-birthday socks, was filled in on the Vulcan tradition, and started dating, McCoy started planning.

Unfortunately, Spock never complained about anything that McCoy could fix. (And he refused to let him get out of routine post-mission physicals.) Spock wasn't exactly a simple man, but despite claiming that favorites were for humans, he had favorites. He had a favorite meal, loved playing music, was a plant daddy, picked up sketching as a recent hobby, and the damn elf had an entire cupboard dedicated to tea. The latter, McCoy decided, was the way to go. However, getting Spock to talk about his wants and needs regarding anything, let alone tea, was like pulling teeth.

Everything changed when he ended up treating a Vulcan ambassador. Another Vulcan tradition was to give gifts of gratitude, and despite his best efforts to wiggle out of it, the ambassador stood firm. McCoy admitted that his birthday was coming up, and he'd yet to find Spock a gift that properly conveyed how important he was to him, but he knew it would be tea related. "Do you have any Vulcan tea I can give him? Maybe something that will help him with his meditation or art?"

The ambassador nodded like he understood everything—perhaps he did—and disappeared behind the privacy screen of his quarters. He came out a minute later with a potted plant. "This is the propagation of a tea plant that I have been cultivating since I was a child, which lives on my ship. Please take this with my sincerest gratitude and I will have my assistants send you proper care instructions until it is time to gift it. Congratulations, Doctor McCoy."

McCoy was stunned and went back to his hotel room, then back to the Enterprise, on autopilot. His mind felt like molasses as he tried to process what just happened. Tea was significant in Vulcan culture, McCoy didn't have to be friends with a Vulcan to know that, but this plant had to be several years old. How could the ambassador just give it to him? Sheeeit! Was regifting a taboo? No, no, the ambassador would have told him.

A month later and it was gift-giving time. Spock gave him a new historical medical device for his collection, and Kirk gave him top-shelf bourbon labeled "Perfectly Legal Bourbon" for Spock. (They got an eye-roll out of that, which was a marker of success.) McCoy then disappeared to his bedroom, where he'd kept the plant in his reading nook for lack of a better secret spot, and brought it out. "This is for you, Spock."

Spock looked at the plant. Stared at it like he was afraid to touch it. McCoy briefly wondered if he did something wrong when Spock finally reached out to grab the plant...and McCoy's hand. "I believe I should inform you of one more Vulcan tradition regarding the gifting of tea plants."

"Oh, hell, what did I do now?"

probably two weeks ago. The TOTK donkey video made me cry out of laughter I was in literal tears for at least 5 minutes could not stop it. Out of sadness, legitimately crying, I don't remember exactly but probably earlier this year.

This is somewhat a sore topic for me, but short answer: no, and don't plan to (or at least I don't plan to bake one myself).

Yeah and I always accompany it with -> (?) the number of question marks is the level of sarcasm.

Hm... ok this is hard lol probably their clothes? but probably not as much... I mostly notice the way their talk.

Tbh I dont think I had a favorite subject... it always was just the one that I'd be doing well at haha so it would change year over year haha. Usually would depend on the instructor. I remember literature was fun mainly because of our instructor and he was super fun and sarcastic too, but I'm not particularly into literature. I can say with certainty though my favorite course in college was civil law. Always did my best on that one and wanted to do my best to impress my professor haha. There were 11 Civil Law courses (from Civil I to XI) and I'd always take it with the instructor that had the reputation to be the hard to pass but was known to be really good. It was some sort of stupid pride along with self-torture :D.

15. DREAM JOB?

A job that sends me travelling around and keeps me well fed and comfortable. I guess I don't have a particular dream job as I only see it as a means to maintain a balance between my responsibilities and my hobbies. I don't ever want to make mix money with my hobbies.

Weird Questions for Writers Ask: 1, 19, 30, 33 please

1. What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?

I write in Constantia. I actually made it the default on all the writing software on my computer. I prefer serif fonts, and Constantia has just this bit of character while still being totally readable.

I did use to have a Thing where every story would have its own font and color, and I mostly haven't changed those back, but, uh, yeah, I don't do that anymore.

There was also a period where Palatino Linotype was my default, but I've switched over

19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?

This is going to be a long answer, because my writing journey has been long.

The first story I remember writing was when I was 6. I stapled a bunch of loose leaf together and decided when I filled it, I would have reached the end. That's not how anything works, but to a 6 year old, it kind of is.

You may recognize the age of 6 around the same time many kids really start to be able to write sentences. I was a very early reader and loved books deeply since, so it made sense to me at the time I would use my words, once I had them, to write my own.

I've written fiction off and on--almost always on, and more on the older I got, ever since. By the time I was in middle school, authoring because The Thing I wanted to do. I went to college for creative writing. Did my first NaNo at 17. Finished my first (different) novel at 18. Queried agents with a novel for the first time when I was 21, just after I'd graduated.

So, yeah. I've been writing for a long, long time, probably longer than many people following me on this blog (because you don't have to be that much younger than me for that to be true), and been actively pursuing education and growing as a writer for....most of that time.

I like to think it's paid off in my skill.

30. Talk to me about the role dreams play in your writing life. Have you ever used material from your dreams in your writing? Have you ever written in a dream? Did you remember it when you woke up?

I've written a couple dreams down as "This is interesting, could write about it," but with the nature of dreams, they always require a lot of work to turn into anything that could be writable that I don't think I've ever actually written a single one.

33. Do you practice any other art besides writing? Does that art ever tie into your writing, or is it entirely separate?

I've dabbled in lots! Drawing was definitely the one I did most, longest, and best, and the one I do most often these days (although not that often). I have historically drawn a lot of my characters. I made a few very very bad attempts at comics as a child.

And if you count role-playing as an art and a game, maybe that. My dad taught me how to play D&D by the time I was about 5 or so, just old enough to play, but pretending to be other characters with your friends and doing character improv (without even necessarily writing it down) is a very creative act and I think a form of art. It's another way to play with storytelling, in my experience.

I think after that, it's probably...sewing? My mother always made my costumes for Halloween growing up, and once I got old enough, I had to help with costumes. I still do a lot of the work to make my own costumes. I'm not real good, but I always have good design ideas, I think, and I like dressing up and putting pieces together that I've purchased when that's necessary. I have soooo many costume pieces hanging around. And so, so much extra cloth and thread and cording and shiz.

My apartment has the remains and bits and pieces of many arts I've tried over the years. Origami paper. Jewelry-making supplies. Stickers and tissue paper and calligraphy pens and charcoal and fancy pencils and erasers and construction paper and markers and Bristol paper and--

Creation is Good.

I'm an artist and a writer mostly! Thats just about most of what I do, though my other passion outside of that is video games! Particularly I love Pokemon and Splatoon, though I also love shooters and fighting games!

I haaate the day time honestly, I'm most active at night and tend to be very bubbly/excited? I literally bounce. a lot. Pinkie Pie was my childhood hero of course.

I tend to suuuck at remembering to do anything I should. Drinking water? Eating actual food? My homework? Never, I'll drink my Mtn. Dew and play Minecraft until suddenly I remember "oh yeah I have like. three papers to write."

I also cannot be trusted with pens of any kind. I will draw on myself. I will not do this on purpose, I see a pen, blank out, and suddenly I've drawn 13 cats on my arms. Whoops!

Also I'm socially awkward? for the most part? despite being hyper/social I get stuck in interactions often and have to search in my mind for how to actually proceed and talk to people like I am a Human Being.

Last thing just some of my favorite things? I guess? Sorry this is so long, I just wanted to cover enough about myself to make it easy! :D Favorite color is pink, favorite animal are bunnies and snakes (and cows), favorite food is chicken with way too much ketchup, favorite music is metal/rock, and my favorite number is 9/13! <3

tips for people that are extremely used to traditional art that wanna go to digital?

every one of your digital works is just so... ...

thank u!! at the time i started doing digital art, my art was like. really not good (i was around 11 years old) so my transition from traditional to digital wasn’t all that hard, since i was basically still starting out with art either way. but what i can say is:

digital art is a big medium, there are a shit-ton of programs, and each program offers differing brushes, layout etc. i’m only really used to/aware of the ins and outs of Procreate, so i can’t provide concrete advice on any other drawing apps. but what i can say is, tutorials can! undoubtedly for whatever drawing app you use, there’ll be a video on youtube explaining what each button does and all the other intricacies of your app of choice. i was lucky enough that when i started digital art, i had a friend who showed me how everything worked on procreate, so if you have any digital artist friends/mutuals that are used to the drawing program you wanna use, maybe ask them for some tips and tricks!

once you know how to use the app and what everything does, i suggest you play around with brushes and colours! maybe do some sketches with different brushes, and play around with the colours! in terms of colour, digital art is a lot more vast than traditional (unless you have a bunch of different pencils or markers or paint etc)! i draw on my ipad using my finger, so my first digital pieces were TERRIBLE as i wasn’t used to that at all (and i was terrible at using colours that worked well together at the time). so if your first digital pieces or sketches aren’t as good as you’d like them to be, please don’t panic and drop digital art! i promise you that practice will improve your art, just like with traditional art!

digital art can be daunting and scary to start off with since there’s a lot going on, especially if you’re using a more advanced art program. but! keep at it and you’ll be able to see the improvement! i know ‘practice makes perfect’ is something everyone and their fuckifn grandma has said before, but unironically, it’s true. just play around with it and have fun, ask some friends and watch some tutorials on how to use the program, and you should be off to a great start! good luck :D

Secret Santa Cheat Sheet

OK so I realized the secret santa intro post I made turned into a nightmare of incomprehensible rambling. Stating now that I do honestly love like, all content with them so anything is good if none of these ideas feel right for you, my beloved santa of secrets <3

Broad Ideas~

-Soft DCA, solo, with each other, with the kids, with YN, just. Soft uwu

-Unhinged. I love the 'about to snap' looks, the 'ive just committed a warcrime' energy, and the 'someone is actively getting redacted' action stuff.

-Hurt/Comfort, either direction, doesn't need to be canon for an AU, I'm just weak for hurt/comfort.

-Surprise moments of trust. Stuff where one is just kinda surprised by the other, the hand is 'offered' for the first time, or the offered hand is 'accepted' for the first time, literal or metaphorical.

-Spicy Humor XD I cackle whenever I see it, and I am not shy to the spice at all, but dirty jokes with the DCA absolutely send me.

Specific Ideas~

-Story time with Sun/Moon, high energy or soft and quiet, maybe the kids are around and totally engaged, maybe it's just them and a YN they're trying to get to take a nap as well, maybe there's no book and they're making it up on the go with a broad motion to demonstrate the ~adventure~ (I love this idea and there's so much that can be done with it)

-DCA being a little shit at children's games vs YN. They aren't going easy on them. At all. Impossible angles in twister, definitely not cheating at cards, ruining friendships with connect four, YN absolutely devastated/aggravated/exasperated at the fact they haven't won a single game in ages.

-Hide and Seek/Tag. With Sun it could be fun and cute. With Moon it's a race for YNs life.

-Gremlin Moon. Contortionist Moon. Impossibly bendy flexible Moon. (ALTERNATELY SAME POSES BUT FOR SUN cause we don't get enough bendy Sun)

-Romantic flirty stuff with DCA/YN shenanigans, cause I'm a simp.

-Semi-canon reveal shot of Eclipse for the first time. A YN pov thing, where the two have 'done the thing' and now they're staring at a third version of the DCA, and it's looking back at them. Was it an emergency situation that brought this on? A warring of the two boys that split control? A third presence that forced it's way out? Did the glitch from Balloon World take over? Did they agree to bring him out as a surprise? I know I said specific but hhh there's just so many ways to go with Eclipse.

AU Specific Ideas~

-Sea Creatures/Mer - art one probably- YN in the water with the first meeting of Sun and/or Moon, just that 'hovering under the surface' vibe with them eyeing each other warily.

-SC/M - One of the boys trying to snag a bite of whatever YN brought for lunch. Whether they win or lose is up to you.

-SC/M - Eclipse with one of his pups, a teeny fluffy thing, him content floating on his back with the little one on his chest, or him sitting menacingly on dry land staring snarly at the viewer while the little thing plays on him/under and around his arms.

-Hands On Experience - Sun walking around with YN on day one, hands under their arms like a wet kitten, or with YN balanced on their hip like a child lmao. This happens more than once in my mind, and YN might be ok with it, or they might be gently annoyed by it but he still gets away with stuff like this too much lol.

-HOE - Back rub time after a long day with unruly children.

-HOE - Nap time on Sun while he's petting YNs hair. (this one would prob be more art? but I'm down for more sleepy time drabbles <3)

-HOE - YN cleaning crayon and marker scribbles off Sun after a rough arts and crafts session.

-Doordash AU -silly art one - DECK THEM OUT IN THE DOORDASH SHIRT/VISOR lmao. Basically just Red shirt with the doordash logo, black Visor with the doordash D on it XD

-Forgotten But Not Gone - Fully feral moon chase through the abandoned daycare. It's not big so it would be a quick run if they don't get caught. Nonverbal Moon, terrified YN. Close calls are fun uwu.

-FBNG - DCA won't let go of YN, like a hand on the wrist, tight or not, just. Clingy. Is YN trying to casually go home and they want them to stay? Is YN just vibing and letting them have the contact? Was YN trying to run away?

-Sometimes It's Worth The Risk- BAD FLIRTING FROM YN at Sun/Moon. Just. Bad pickup lines. Awful flirting tactics. The fluster and shock of being flirted back with and losing their cool entirely. The 'OH NO HE'S HOT' reaction mentality. They're just one dumb idiot that's got the butterflies for the robot lmao.

Guys in my defence I've been reading fanfics not writing them. But seriously I've been deal dealing with mental health shit and s c h o o l. I'm tryna get in the grove of writing but not force it so I won't go back into writer's block. Also, I know most of my storied were DSMP last year I still write for that fandom (seriously check my unfinished stories) But I still wanna include my other fandoms since this isn't really an MCYT or DSMP-centric blog. But yeah enough rambling feel free to drop into my inbox I don't bite, I'm also accepting requests so shoot! Reki banged his head on his sketchbook endlessly, markers falling off the wooden desk one by one onto the wooden floor. He this close to burning those markers, or chopping his hands off and switching them with a new pair, whichever would cure him of this disease or was it a curse? Wait if this was a cure does that mean he’ll never get over it? The redhead gripped his hair and yelled in pain.

“Will you shut up!” you whisper-shout in annoyance “How’s someone supposed to concentrate in a place like this!”

“Please” Reki grumbled “I’m actually going through something right now unlike a certain someone who’s playing games behind their textbook” he hisses with no malice behind his words ``Seriously who are you fooling.” You shushed him quickly eyeing around for teachers “Dude you’re gonna get me in trouble, plus it is important.” A cocky smirk appeared on your face “I’m about to put Miya in his place.”

Reki placed his hand on his chin rolling his eyes “Yeah. Never going to happen he’s like a total boss”

You gaped at him dramatically “Reki! You don’t have any faith in me”

“Shh its study hall you’re so friken loud man”

“Thats rich coming from the loudest guy I know” you glared at the redhead “That reminds me it’s not like your studying either so don’t be a hypocrite buddy”

“Who are you calling-!” a loud smack that could be heard down the hall (if you knew who was in that class you’d know it was Reki who got smacked with the teacher's lesson plan, it effectively shuts the teen up )

You quietly snicker as the redhead pouts muttering something along the lines of ‘I didn’t start it’

You sigh as you put your phone down on the wooden desk grabbing a pen to scribble a note to the boy.

<I’ll help you cure your disease>

You watch as he frowns trying to open up the note, not even a millisecond later the sun rises from behind that frown. You watch Reki quickly write his response.

You sighed as you shoved the crumpled note into your binder, between the mess of classwork and notes you had no idea which was which It was like ww3 in your book bag.

You made two mental notes that day

Organise my shit

Stop getting involved with sunshine kids I feel myself getting blind by the second

Operation: Destroy the art block monster!

“Alright, first things first!” You smile as Reki stands up straight ready to get to work “As a slime defeating a level 20 boss you have to be absolutely ready to be at your feet at all cost, I don’t want to hear no crying, no whining, no nothing! Got that.” you said in a mock commander voice, this was it you were ready to get to business.

“Yes ma’am!” Reki yelled

“Our objective” you hit a stick on the brick wall “Defeat the monster blocking your creative vision, for that we need the most powerful weapon of all.” Reki nodded his head eagerly mimicking a golden retriever “Are you ready to know what it is” the redhead once again shook his head excitedly “Good!”

A wave of silence passed through

“Your wallet”

“I’m sorry what?”

“You heard me, I’m fucking starving, I’m not doing shit on an empty stomach let's go to Joe’s place.”

Needless to say, Y/N completely obliterated Reki’s paycheck from last week

No seriously, Reki swears flies flew out of his wallet

Reki tapped in annoyance and he wanted his best friend munched happily on their food, he noticed how your whole world turned to colour as you took a bite out of Joe’s food.

Whoever said food was the way to the soul was right

‘BUT STILL, I NEED TO DRAW AND ANY TIME THIS CENTURY WOULD BE NICE’ Reki screamed in his head

Y/N looked up to see the boy bouncing his leg up and down very quickly while narrowing his hazel eyes at the half-eaten plate of pasta. You sigh “Dude chillax your vibe is gonna ruin the food.”

“Y/N!-”

“I’ll help you just let me eat” you replied dragging out the syllabus

“Bu-!”

Before Reki could even finish his sentence, shit before he could even finish word Joe showed popped up behind Reki. Propping up his arm onto Reki’s wild hair he put up his signature grin “Y/N, Reki! How are my favourite customers!?” The green-haired man chuckled “Y/N I see you're enjoying the hell out of my pasta”

You grinned “Joe!” which was followed by a “Hey Joe” from Reki which by the way made the pasta go from ‘Al dente’ to extra hella soft it might as well be soggy noodles

Joe looked at the usually energetic child with concern “Whats up Reki, you usually die for my cooking. Aren’t you going to eat too?”

“Not hungry” he mumbled

Joe eyed you curiously with a questioning look, you sigh softly “He’s going through artist block right now so he’s all depressy” Joe hummed in understanding

“Y/N said they would help me but all they did was help me blow off my paycheck.”

“S’not my fault Joe have good ass food”

“Exactly it’s not her fault I have good food”

“Stop encouraging them!” He cried out while Joe let out a boisterous laugh and ruffled Reki’s hair and patted yours. “Alright alright, I’ll stop.” He smiled softly really giving off positive dad vibes “But seriously Reki don’t sweat it, there's a process for everything. I’m sure you’re inspiration will come back soon.” Reki smiled softly muttering a ‘thanks Joe’ under his breath “Ok kids I got to go before my chefs blow up my kitchen, I’ll catch ya later tonight, Y/N make sure you help Reki.”

A chorus of ‘Ok dad, see you later’ came from both the teens after Joe walked away “I am not your dad!” came a shout from the kitchen making both of you giggle.

"The Herald of Andraste"

So, have I told you how much I love the Dragon Age series, especially Dragon Age Inquisition? I adore it dearly...to me, it is one of the best games ever made (besides Skyrim and Witcher 3). The details & environments are gorgeous; I could run around forever just admiring the different sceneries/climates. Also, the interactions in the DA games are just the best, and I love how you can create relationships. I recently beat DAI for the 2nd time a couple of weeks ago. I'm always sad when I finish a game, especially one I thoroughly enjoyed. Do you feel that way, too?

My OC for DAI was the female human warrior, from House Trevelyan. I named her Bryony. I always try to make the characters look similar to myself, but I've got such odd features that I can never create a character that looks like *ME*. Of course I had to make Bryony go for Cullen. Cullen is so dreamy. He's hot for a video game character. ;-D I did make Bryony go for Dorian until it was discovered Dorian was gay! (So tempting to create a male character to get the relationship with Dorian. :3 ) But I adored the relationship between Bryony & Cullen. The 2nd time I played the game, I actually had all the DLCs, which are amazing additions to the game and overall storyline. I was stoked when Byrony got to marry Cullen. Made my fangirl self feel tickled to death.

The armour Bryony is wearing is a "heavy armor" schematic I crafted using Stormheart. Stormheart makes for pretty armour with the iridescent blue-pink-purple colours. The sword was a "Strong Brutal Claymore" schematic I used, also with Stormheart, equipped with the "Superb Corrupting Rune". I couldn't figure out how to make that effect as I drew it (it looked more like flames than the actual effect), so I actually "cheated" by using a smoke brush in Photoshop Elements to add to the sword. I drew this entire fan art before I equipped Bryony with that badass "Armour of the Dragon Hunter" (obtained from the Jaws of Hakkon DLC) and the Sulevin Blade.

Every other Monday [starting from today], I will be posting this specific kind of DAI fan art until I finish all 10 playable characters, which means it will be a countdown until Dragon Age Day (December 4th)!

Drawn with Sakura Pigma Micron pens, then coloured in with a mix of Copic Markers & Ohuhu Markers. White accents were done with a gel pen. The Inquisiton symbol, stars, dots, & blooms on the trees were done with a gold Golden Paint acrylics, but the scanner killed the gold and it looks "flat" (in real life, the drawing looks awesome with the super metallic gold). Font done in Photoshop Elements.

- the Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of my favorite pieces of media hands down. I have two different copies of the trilogy (both gifts from my mother) and reread them when I’m in a tough spot. I also own a replica of the sword Sting and want to get Andúril as well

- I taught myself how to do the Perry the Platypus noise from Phineas in Ferb after seeing the show as a child
