so about the header that proceeded today's statement:

Viability as agent: Low

Viability as subject: None

Viability as catalyst: Medium

i didn't know what to think of this part of the entry at first, but the longer the statement went on... was the institute in this universe trying to manufacture avatars?

the dice can't do anything without someone to use them, they can't be an "agent" by themselves, but might be capable of manipulation, so in that aspect their viability is "low."

the dice could be a "subject" in the sense that they could use further studying, but the statement itself was a very thorough investigation of their workings, so in that aspect their viability is "none."

the dice seem to influence their holder to roll them, or at least find more victims to roll them, and could therefore be described as a "catalyst" for someone's becoming. but, as seen in the statement, their owner can give the dice to someone else (albeit not without consequences), so in that aspect their viability is only "medium."

so what about the line following all this, what does "Recommend referral to Catalytics for Enrichment applicability assessment" mean? if we go by this interpretation, i'd say it could mean the institute wanted to find a way to make the dice even more potent as an artifact, maybe even remove that pesky ability for their owner to reject them.

imho all of this this brings a whole new level of context to the events of episode seven, of unknown violent agents going after an influx of objects that seemed straight out of artifact storage. was that the nature of the titular "magnus protocol" first mentioned in episode four, the one that involved the starkwall group? containing or destroying potential artifacts before the institute could get their hands on them?

it also makes their "gifted kids program," and sam's link to it as one of the kids being studied, all the more horrifying to think about. was it not just avatars in general they were after, but child avatars specifically? no wonder gertrude got so defensive over the possibility of sam and celia dragging gerry back into the institute's business last episode, we all picked up on her clearly knowing more than she's letting on but now we might know the shape of that information a bit better.

and one final bit of food for thought... this statement had a lot of familiar themes, didn't it? free will or the illusion of it, gambling and not-so-random chance, the statement giver being done in by one final hit from what feels like a bit of an addition... all hallmarks of a certain mother of puppets. doesn't it seem fitting that "chester" would use this kind of statement to warn sam about what harm pursuing the magnus institute could bring to him, considering the one his voice might draw from? and doesn't it seem so painfully ironic that his warning seems to have only driven sam further into that web?

The only acceptable way that Philip and Benoit could've met and fall in love is by Philip being the prime suspect in a brutal murder case and Benoit is attempting to convince himself that 'this fine asf man with the personality of a golden retriever could not possibly be the murderer' whilst stacks of evidence builds against Philip, thus leading Benoit to slowly doubt his guts as well as Philip's innocence but by the end Benoit solves it and it was the actual killer trying to frame Philip or smt idk he's just innocent tho

2023 was such a nice year in the fandom, in my opinion. There was s3 and that was a banger, but I feel like the stuff we were up to ourselves over here was amazing too. I got to talk more with some of my mutuals who I hadn’t been as close to before, and lovely people keep coming to this corner of the internet!! We had our first sketchbook event and are currently preparing for a general Hilda Appreciation Week, I feel like this is all amazing considering the size of this community.

Just wanted to thank everyone who’s been here for the ride as well! It’s certainly always more fun when you have people to be insane with you. I just. Get very touched thinking about the amount of support in this fandom and how we creatively fuel each other.

Anyway, just wanted to write this post as a thank you. I hope you’re having a lovely end of the year, and may 2024 be even better 💜

(I do have one small writing update to add, though! The first months of the year will probably be relatively devoid of new content from me. This for two reasons. One is that I churned out so many fics this year that I feel like even the people who like my writing are having a hard time catching up (I don’t know how this happened either-), and the other is that I’ll be using my free time to get ahead on preparing my content for the rest of the year! I won’t completely stop or anything (Hilda Appreciation Week will see to that), just wanted to leave this noted so no one things I’ve Vanished from the fic writing scene or anything. I’m just preparing my next attack. Anyways that was it happy new year!!)

okay despite me hating on mlb for how they butchered the series' plot bad, I'm still kickin and gigglin over the halloween special LIKE

SPOILERS AHEAD!!

man, the alternate universe's characters slap in every bum. The role reversal with adrien and gabrielle, with how gabrielle was more accepting of his wife's lose while adrien was stuck on his mother's death and he hated his father for moving on. This dynamic made more sense in my opinion because adrien, a teenager, a boy who lost a mother-figure when he was young, would be bitter about the loss, not knowing how to cope yet with certain emotions and seeing his father who looked moved on already amplified it further because in this sense, it made him lonelier. Gabrielle would have prob tried to talk to him but knowing how the usual mentality of people in this age goes, they would stubbornly believe and cling onto their own wishes and wants, seeing his father's act of acceptance as betrayal and already forgetting about his mom. He doesn't have the mental and emotional maturity yet to cope with the loss hence he walked down the path which was clawnoir. Unlike in the orig series where gabrielle was the one hell-bent trying to get his wife back while adrien just wanted his father to spend time with him.

I mean, it's not like this dynamic did not make sense. It's just that I saw the appeal more with the role reversed as this is how things with the lost of a family member goes. AND CAN I JUST SAY,

IT HAS THE TROPE OF MR POPULAR HAVING A CRUSH ON A NORMAL BAKER GIRL AUGHHHGHHGH it's tickling my brain in all of its weak spots I CAN'T this is just so cute honestly

that act of "admiring you in a distance" is so 😩😩 PLEASE WE COULD HAVE SEEN MORE but then in their masked forms, it's "I'll punch your face the moment I get an opportunity" they fight so badly it's not even what you can say a banter, they fight with raw emotions that scrapes your ears like chalk scratching on a board exactly just like teens who are going through a lot and the moment they revealed their identities, there was a hint of comfort that clawnoir awkwardly tried to portray because in the end, he realized, they were just two people underneath the mask who have rough things they're going through, added the fact that emo!marinette said she'd wish to replace marinette of this universe just so she could experience the good things here (of course it's also the fact that she's his crush which was another major factor to consider but I wanna pretend that the former is the explanation for angst factor xd)

they literally had this enemies to lovers trope going on, partners who are only forced to cooperate by a higher rank but could care less about the other. Can I just say that the emo!duo had more character arc than our mains for so many seasons? In this little flashbacks and small trinkets of what happened in their world, we are able to see more depth to their characters and progression to their plot. If only we could have focused more on the emo au, I would have jumped right into that ship to sail me away! Instead, we got an ending that focused on the actual au that we have. LIKE I DO NOT GIVE AF! Would give anything to see about the father-son angst of the emo au instead, like imagine, having to see that you've been fighting your son all along and because gabrielle, being the way that he is, would be crushed knowing that his actions are partly responsible for his son's path to darkness

also, I wanna tackle about emo!marinette's, when she said

that means that these two never have been formally introduced but she showed her frustration about adrien agreste being a menace and arrogant. Meanwhile, adrien only talked about specifically being mean to nino. But it's prob a chloe-marinette dynamic with adrien being stuck up to everyone but only targeting nino specifically. That's why shadybug groaned when hearing adrien agreste despite having no one-on-one interaction with him because as we saw, he became timid when he saw her identity. There would be no way he'd harm her theoretically. He may have struck a conversation with her sure, but considering his already-bad reputation, emo!marinette would have thought of him as a bully much like chloe, knowing they're childhood friends and would want as much to avoid him (this is literally what happened in s1e1 with adrien trying to remove the gum off marinette's seat that chloe did) emo!marinette is basing it off on two-peas-in-a-pod friendship, plus with what he did to emo!nino, no doubt marinette would see it that way.

also! I just wanna add that what if, what if the emo!adrien is dressed like we see him as is because of marinette who took on the emo aesthetic (if we did not include the halloween special vibe lmao), he did that style in order to get close to her and to have some ground topic to start a conversation. People tend to stick with people of the same interests after all.

man, there's more I wanna say about this halloween special but let's leave it at that for today. I also wanna hear what you guys think about this special episode? Because honestly, there's so much potential for this au and the fics AUGHHH THE FICS JUST IMAGINE

What if Oli was in the au but because he’s not in the life smp he doesn’t have a partner or a crest

He was in the digital world during the evo kid’s time basically a stowaway on their adventure that was never supposed to be there and was never discovered 

He became a traveling musician In order to make a living 

Time moves differently in the digital world months go by while your in there but in the real world only minutes 

Oli still looks like 5-15 year old kid despite being way way older than the others (he’s like hundreds of years old )

 Nobody believes him when he tell them his real age because he’s gone a bit crazy and never grew up so they think he’s one of the first timers and the youngest of them 

Everybody always keeps him in the dark and away from the fighting the evo crew are especially guilty of this because they know what it’s like to be kids in this mess 

He eventually starts traveling with a digimon who is kinda his partner but he is not able to evolve his partner because he doesn’t have a crest and he doesn’t have a digivice 

His partner looks like a dragon 

he killed his partners mama(I know digimon don’t work that way but still) Or he killed a digimon dragon but after the battle he found its egg and out hatched his beautiful baby boy

…he prays the memories of him killing his partner stays forgotten  

And they bond by singing annoyingly catchy ditties together 😊

The ideas are super fun! I enjoy seeing your concepts! I don't have much to add and wont be using it for my own au just because I specifically don't want anyone who isn't part of the core Life Series as digidestined / associated with the digital world. But if you make an au of your own this would be really cool!

Thinking about Oli's place in the human world might be fun for me since I think a suitable non digidestined group back home missing their friends or family and only knowing they've gone missing is really interesting to me. <3 Maybe Oli is the first to realise Lizzie and Joel are missing!

I just realized that, when Byler becomes canon, THE iconic main couple of THE iconic netflix show stranger things would be a gay couple. A gay couple comprised of one boy who hated who he was and a boy who dealt with insecurities/internalized homophobia and a need to be needed, until they help each other realize that they are needed, and special, and important, and LOVED.

And while byler would be a white mlm couple, as part of a mainstream show, it would:

show gay people (who might not easily have access to LGBTQ+ positive media) that they deserve love and have a place in the world

demonstrate to homophobes that love, respect, and belonging is all gay people really want

prove to media companies that LGBTQ+ media sells, making gay characters in media more common and accessible.

Maybe shows and movies like First Kill or The Wilds or Batwoman, with female, sapphic, and POC leads, wouldn't be cancelled (as much, at least). Maybe there could be real-world effects, whether it comes in the form of laws furthering LGBTQ+ rights or a previous douchebag homophobe learning from their past mistakes and treating gay people with more love and respect.

Is this too much expectation to be put on one, currently non-canonical, white mlm ship? Absolutely. We'll need much more LGBTQ+ shows and movies (with more female and POC leads this time). But Mike and Will are a big step in the right direction.

And if Byler doesn't happen, at least we can ransack the Duffers' homes together.
