podcaster!buck my most beloved and also one of my longest running wips at two years lmao
it is too close to my heart not to finish but it went through a massive revamp in april this year and has still managed to fall by the wayside but i will finish it!!!
snippet:
After an unknown amount of tossing and turning, he finally gives in and googles How to fall asleep fast. There are a couple of tips that are currently useless to him – Don’t use your phone before bed, don’t look at the clock, take melatonin before bed – and he tries different breathing methods, even something about scrunching and relaxing his face, but nothing works. Eventually, he finds a thread on Reddit where someone suggests listening to a podcast. The person was nice enough to leave links to some of their favourites, so Eddie picks one at random.
He searches the title, thankfully finding it easily. It seems to have been running for almost a year now. The most recent episode is titled ‘The History of Tracheotomies’ and the one before is ‘Understanding Alzheimer’s and Other Forms of Dementia’. Eddie scrolls through the episodes a little more, and after not seeing any form of pattern or chronology, starts playing the most recent one. He puts on the app’s sleep timer, feeling optimistic, and lets the narrator’s voice fill the room.
“Hey everyone,” the host starts happily. “I hope your week was good. I had a bit of an odd week and it’s mostly what inspired today’s episode, although I would like to specify that everyone is okay. On that note, today we’re going to be diving into the history of tracheotomies, starting in ancient times and moving into modern methods…”
(i think this actual snippet was written literally in 2020 omg. i need to write more of this au)
So I just finished Oliver’s interview with Zach Sang and I have a few thoughts - all positive 😂
1. I adore Oliver - he’s so well spoken, clearly loves the show and Buck, and Oliver’s emotional intelligence or connection with people definitely rubbed off on Buck and made him the character he is today.
2. He is so well spoken about buck being bi and everything that comes with that - and I’m so glad as a bisexual woman, that we have Oliver being the face of this storyline and the care he handles it with - especially after being a supernatural fan and the car crash that was Destiel and how badly Deans bisexual coding was handled in the media and q&a’s and such - because there is nothing wrong with fans perceiving a character being queer, and that fandom specifically were made to feel like there was.
3. And finally his answer about whether he would want Buck and Eddie together was so well said, because of course he’s open to it, but he puts Buck’s character first and I truly agree with him that if it wouldn’t serve the story, Buck and Eddie shouldn’t happen. You can tell he loves Bucks coming out and how he wants to treat it with love and positivity, and I can see how he wants to avoid the negative stereotypes of people being Bi and immediately being assumed to be attracted to everyone, and I so appreciate that.
Buddie is something that is so special because either you look at it as two male best friends who love each other unconditionally and wholly, or as this budding romance that builds over 6 seasons. And for me either is beautiful because they are still each others person, and they have this family dynamic that works.
I don’t want Buddie to happen for the sake of satisfying the fans, I need it to be meaningful and special, and if it narratively wouldn’t make sense or wasn’t treated with care I’d rather it stay as it is - with this beautiful male friendship.
Buck as a character is very special to me, and he means a lot to me, so how he is handled is something I care a lot about. And bisexuality is also something that should be handled with care and I’m very glad it seems to be treated with the care it should be at 9-1-1.
hiiii, "pet names" for the soft prompt if you're still doing it<3
Full disclaimer i also dont know how face timing works. Soft prompts, finished ones!
It had started as a joke. Or as teasing, really. Eddie had been in El Paso, telling his sisters about his boyfriend, and had tried to facetime him when they demanded living, talking proof of such a thing. Tried being the operative word there, because what Eddie had done was call him the regular way and then ask "How do I turn the camera on?"
"Well, my technologically challenged beloved, that's not how that works. Wait a second, hang up, I'll start the call."
And then, a few days later after Eddie was back home safe and exhausted from extended exposure to immediate relatives, it was a laughing “Beloved, hand it over,” as he grabbed a suitcase from his partner’s hands as Eddie looked like he was about to fall asleep standing up. Then “Beloved, pass me that-“ “Beloved, when is-“ “Beloved, how about-“ until it was just something he said, a name for Eddie alongside Eds and Babe and Hello You and all the times he says goodnight or good morning and means it as a form of address.
They’re at the station and Eddie says “Hey, Buck-” the start of a question lost to a moment of distraction, Ravi dropping something in the kitchen and all eyes turning towards the noise in a gentle assessment of danger.
It’s a coffee cup that now no longer has a handle, there’s a sheepish smile, and Buck turns back to his partner and says “Yes, beloved?” And it’s not a joke at all and out of the corner of his eye he can see Hen make the face she makes when they're being buckandeddie, all fond and a little grossed out.
And every time he says it here’s what happens: the very corners of Eddie’s mouth lift up first, and then he ducks his head just a tiny bit, and then he meets Buck’s eyes with a sort of surprised affection melted into the brown. Buck thinks they both keep looking at each other like this, months since they crashed into each other and refused to let go, still hardly daring to believe this is theirs to have and keep.
Eddie calls him honey and it tastes like it, the word sweet as it’s passed across the kitchen or pressed into his skin. He says sweetheart and Buck feels like one, feels kinder and lovelier under his attention. Eddie says “Buck” and he thinks his name doesn’t sound like that in anyone else’s mouth, he thinks he never feels more real or adored than when Eddie’s tongue curls around those consonants.
Growing up as Evan Buckley, he never knew how many names a person could have. Then he became Buck, and Buckaroo, and Kid, and each one was him entirely, his true name, and all of them would have been enough for him - already they felt like things he stole, things someone would disapprove of him having, little treasures to keep safe - but then there was Eddie and Buck thinks for the rest of his life he’ll greedily seek new names to have and to give away. He thinks maybe Husband, maybe soon.
For now, in the fire station after the broken cup, Eddie says “Oh, just wondering if you wanted to get breakfast after this?”
And Buck thinks maybe a name can just be knowing someone, in the way he knows what breakfast place they’ll go to and what Eddie will order and the half of his second pancake that Buck will end up eating. He smiles. “Yeah, Eddie, I’d love to.”
reblog this if you agree that oliver stark and ryan guzman should do a 9-1-1 rewatch podcast when the series finishes (hopefully many seasons later) where they watch episode by episode, gives us BTS fun facts, reveal their favorite moments on screen and off, and have other cast members and crew members guest star on the podcast depending on the episode.
i believe they should do that and they should call it The WeeWoo Rewatch Show
i've come to a conclusion. i think the reason the young bucks get so much hate despite being objectively good individuals and creating jobs for hundreds of employees and being best friends with dozens of beloved wrestlers across multiple promotions is this. they've never truly been underdogs (an identity that can get literally anyone over with an audience), because they have never been, at any point in their televised career, alone. they've always been a part of the deadliest factions wherever they are - elite or bullet club - and they have ALWAYS had backup, but most importantly nick and matt have always had each other. that's a unique privilege and security that few can relate to and it seems to make the most lonely among us angry and hateful for this reason
