Have you read any books from Brandon Sanderson? I have read only one but I'm currently in the middle of The Way of Kings. It's the second Brandon Sanderson book for me.

i think it's James Baldwin's criticism of the American film industry's fixation on Westerns that i'm thinking of, that the romanticism of the "Wild West" was a white male colonial fantasy. a lawless land, where a man can rule through brute strength and violence, his whiteness makes him superior to those deemed "savage", and he can have any woman he pleases as long as he can force her to submit.
i've always felt those type of "grimdark" medieval fantasies with so much sexual violence against women function the exact same way. it's a Western for male incel nerds. and it's not surprising that the most famous example of this, game of thrones, is so pornographic as porn is another male fantasy.

I truly do think one of the largest pitfalls among the "media consumption is my passion" crowd is the tendency to treat characters as human beings with agency rather than narrative tools manipulated by the author

people forget that (most) authors don't write to be popular.
that is why constantly being asked to update is so immensely frustrating. authors are not influencers, this is not paid content where you have a justified say in what gets made.
commenting "update please" doesn't tell the author you care about them as a human person, it says you only care about the next update. that is quite literally all it says, regardless of the intention behind it. choosing to interpret it another way is just an interpretation, it doesn't change the actual meaning of this as a demand devoid of genuine desire for interaction.
like, what is the answer to that request even supposed to be? "yes okay"??? it's just entirely ridiculous, and i'm tired of being told this should be taken as a compliment. the level of communication involved here is the same as dealing with a five year old who wants more candy.
it is not a compliment, it doesn't make me feel like someone cares, it makes me feel like people only care what i can give them, which is fucked up to say the least.
if you want to leave a short encouraging comment, then put some emojis or just say you liked it. it's not hard to do, and it's not some complex social skill you need to have, it is very basic decency that everyone should be capable of.
authors aren't here to serve you updates. these are real people, not products, try to treat them as such.

This is the core of Jason’s character.
Again they try to hammer in that Jason is brash, arrogant, and reckless; that he jumps before thinking. However you can’t really attribute reckless behavior to arrogance or carelessness when he only ever becomes instinctive during very specific instances. The few times he’s “stepped out of line” or just threw himself into an unknown/dangerous situation it was always to protect someone from predators and sickos. Otherwise, keep in mind the number of times he’s been praised for his intelligence and judgment; for being meticulous, calm, and cooperative.

Hey can yall help me find a fic? Pretty please? It's one of my favorite and I swear I bookmarked it but I can't find it now.
Its a post order 66 stars wars fic. I think there's two in the series? But the premise is that padme gives birth on the way to mustfar so she and obi ean go on the run and meet up with Rex and ahsoka. Everybody is having a bad time in their grief and lashing out at obi wan who slowly stops talking. Eventually obi wan goes off on a solo mission and ends up rescuing Cody and a few other clones. They continued to go off on missions together and continue to save more clones. Eventually everybody starts to heal and make up.

claiming one individual of a species is objectively "better" or more correct than another is inherently rooted in pseudoscientific belief system but we aren't ready for dat conversation
of course we can measure better within specific parameters, like they may be better at performing a task or producing favorable wool/milk/meat but 'better' and 'worse' as an absolutist blanket statement is purely human construct and should not be treated as unwavering laws of nature

There's something infuriating about wanting to enjoy an author's writing because the stuff they write about is exactly the kinda thing you should love, but their particular writing style makes reading their work absolutely miserable for you.

‘people only hate watcher grian because it’s so popular!’ no actually i hate it because it was popularized/created by A 2019 Asshole who has left such a huge stain on hermitblr that some hermits still don’t like tumblr, it’s ruined any discussion/the tags of EVO, which existed as its own series outside of grian and the watchers, and it makes it impossible to ever talk about grian as a character because someone will Always try to make his character watcher-related, even when that isn’t applicable to the conversation.
