thinking about trans Julian again specifically thinking about the idea of Julian being trans but electing to not undergo any gender-affirming surgeries
like I was thinking about this the other day in the context of his line about him and Kira being the only other options for a womb when he had to transplant the baby from Keiko, because the implication that Julian has a womb also implies he's elected out of having a hysterectomy for gender-affirming purposes. I say that because we know gender-affirming surgeries- at least the more cosmetic ones- are very easy to undergo (see Profit and Lace, where they very quickly and easily turn Quark into a woman (yes I know it wasn't gender-affirming for him but its the easiest episode to use for my point)) so I feel like it wouldnt be a reach to say that a hysterectomy would be a fairly easy procedure to ask for and undergo
which as ive been thinking about it more I think this like. perfectly tracks with Julian as a character, that he would opt out of undergoing gender-affirming procedures. because I think, considering what his parents did to him and how strongly he resents it, that he would steer clear of anything he would view as "changing" himself. honestly so far in the future I think its safe to assume views of transitioning are very different, and I'd like to think that there wouldnt be nearly as much social pressure to physically transition at all, but even if there was I think Julian would be very resistant to the idea that he would "have" to change anything about himself. Julian is very unapologetically himself in every regard, so im pretty confident in saying that that would translate over to his gender identity and asserting that he is a man, and he doesnt need to change anything about himself or his body to be one
#star trek: ds9#julian bashir#I dont typically put this much thought into my trans hcs but Julian being trans is an hc that fascinates me#from a character analysis standpoint#I think he wouldnt physically transition at all!#I dont think he'd even go on hormones#'but what about the facial hair in the prison camp' afab people can grow facial hair without hormones#'but what about the lack of titty' he could be wearing a binder#frankly I dont think he even would I think he's just flat-chested#it would track with his build. beanpole man#but yeah Julian as a trans man who does not physically transition. things I am thinking about often#like I said Julian does not apologize for any aspect of himself and is very loudly himself#and he doesnt let other people's opinions of him change that#look at his friendship with Miles#Miles loves to remind Julian how annoying he is and Julian thinks its funny#I think its one of the reasons they get along so well honestly#cause sure Miles complains but he also wouldnt change Julian and Julian knows that#I dont read Julian as being insecure about himself#he hates what's been done to him but he isnt like. insecure about it. he knows it wasn't his fault#he hides it for legal reasons not because he's insecure#but I think his resentment over what was done to him ties directly into how he would resist undergoing any procedures or physical changes#frankly I think Julian hates being a surgery patient just in general#I think he hates any procedure he cant be awake for#and he fights like a cat trying to get out of a bath anytime he has to go under#but thats a whole other post and hc#anyways trans Julian supremacy

it caught my eye that kuukou has two sets of prayer beads in this card and learned that in buddhism you have two different kinds of prayer beads: formal and informal!!!!
formal beads are crafted for specifically one sect, so prayer beads from shingon buddhism would differ from zen buddhism, for example!!! informal beads are typically for personal use and don’t follow the more strict construct rules that differentiates formal beads. since they’re for personal use, why a person may have a personal set of beads varies from person to person, but they’re usually used either for meditation or for protection
Tumblr media
we’ve seen kuukou meditate, and he doesn’t use beads so i wonder if his beads are more of a protection charm for him more than anything 🤔

man. i'm not saying i'm right about everything always but. last show having no death references and just some sad "oh this is the last one" moments + this happening before the movie with the forum footage... the way this is going, i'm waiting for that movie to be 90 minutes of copia sitting on a beach with the wind blowing through his fake-looking muppet hair reminiscing on being picked up by a bunch of skeleton dancers at the forum and then realizing he wants to be a drag queen.

Moral Alignment Test
Tumblr media
Goro is 18.3% good, tied between chaotic and lawful, making him true neutral.
#justice || akechi#justice || dash games#i thought long and hard about goro's alignment when working on his carrd and i settled on true neutral too#because good evil law chaos are ALL massive themes in his character! so boxing him into just two of those just doesn't feel right#i love that law and chaos are perfectly balanced here that's so cool#he's meant to be playing for the god of control and his mission is to sew chaos and distortion#and on a more personal level he does really believe in like. The Law.#he genuinely thinks following the proper procedures and such is generally the best and safest way to do things for everyone involved#but at the same time fuck rules he does what he wants!#and as for good and evil aaahhh i love the lean here towards good#he wants to be a hero! he wants to help people!! really genuinely he does! and he tries to!#but he also is willing to justify anything he does in pursuit of his 'justice' including a lot of incredibly vile shit#not even in a 'doing evil things for the sake of doing good' type of way he KNOWS what he's doing is just unabashedly bad#but he REFUSES to grapple with it let alone try to reconcile his opposing viewpoints#the cognitive dissonance is so severe that he sees two different versions of himself and that's why he has two personas#anyway. he's so many different things where else can he be placed but in the middle?#he's nothing and everything all at once#so not exactly the traditional idea of 'true neutral' but true neutral nonetheless i think!!!

i'm not saying that Criminal Minds is like a revolutionary show like i am fully aware of its flaws but the show does Found Family so well. The show takes the time not just to develop each of the characters individually to give them a rich and varied backstory and character arc but also takes the time to build individual bonds between each them in unique and distinct ways, which is extremely rare for an ensemble show.
They have such real and tangible bonds not just as a cohesive group but also with each in a way that doesn't feel forced or scripted but deep-rooted and dug into your heart. It's an ensemble show in the purest sense, and every single character is meaningful and noteworthy and i just - i am in no way pretending that there isn't something off-kilter about finding a show centred around a FBI Team hunting serial killers to be comforting, but goddamnit Criminal Minds is a comforting show.

Finally completed “True Detectives” S1 and S3, and while S1 could be said to be ‘better’ in some aspects, certainly grittier, I definitively prefer S3.
The story and characters are less depressing and enraging; the ending much happier.
Both are brilliant as crime procedural with different takes👏🏽 Looking forward to S4 because I am desperate for a women-centric show in this vein!
Rant ahead:
Here comes my rant about such male-centric ‘bro-romance’ shows! Which is most of the genre (in general, worldwide). I wished they had just come out and be gay and whatever and leave the women out of it! The cloying sexism, misogyny and ‘homoeroticism’ which too often sideline and diminish the female characters are not characteristics I can ever enjoy in a show.
The ideas that only men can have meaningful and strong emotional bonds/friendships with each other? Men and women only good for having children? No point in expecting more from men except as a sperm donor? Simply infuriating!
(Good then, that IRL - due to various reasons but the pervasive misogyny is definitely one of it - more and more women are choosing not to have children with men. Why bother).
The discourse around such shows are always quite disappointing from a female characters-lover/shipper perspective, and the “True Detective” series is no exception to those stereotypes/what I have come across regularly.
While I have enjoyed the aesthetics, brilliance, writing and performances of the shows, they are also a reminder of what I find extremely vexing about such shows.
Give me more shows like “Mentalist” (while had its minor issues, was way, way less infuriating than the TD series up till S3, and had more satisfying arcs and conclusion from my POV). “Mentalist” is such a wonderful show.
Looking at how it is, if I ever get to Night Country, that will highly likely be my favourite amongst the series.

I don't want video games to let me choose whether my character has Penis A or Penis B, I want them to administer a comprehensive twelve-part questionnaire about how I think elves reproduce and procedurally generate a set of genitals based on my answers.

It's probably from using the mod that lets me forcibly retire politicians, but I'm a little upset I haven't had a 100+ year old US president in my Victoria 3 games in a while
I get 100+ year old generals more frequently though, in one of my last games Ulysses S Grant spawned in and was still alive at the end of the game in 1936 at 113 years old
I think the oldest character I've seen might've been over 120, but I'd have to check

some undifferentiated thoughts about my Starfield playthrough as i have them. i am a game developer with a strong interest in procedural generation and i've enjoyed a bunch of other bethesda games so this might get pretty mean sorry
(this is a long one)
starfield dialogue is already exhausting me "oh you must've been living under a moon rock ;)" get it! because they're in space! this would've been too corny for the Jetsons
there's a kind of cheap dusting of space theme over everything. the food isn't salmon but alien salmon. it's not seaweed but alien seaweed. cooking alien stir-fry. come on
cannot get over how clumsily the theming is handled. books, board games, weapon names revolve heavily around space. these people have been living on alien planets for hundreds of years yet have this unending sense of novelty about it. the game takes itself completely seriously but feels like it's attempting to parody itself
people's EYEBALLS are CLIPPING THROUGH THEIR EYELIDS
a woman is speaking to me in french. her accent is about as believable as her haircut
these are some of the worst reflection maps i've ever seen
next to nothing is interactive. you can sit in chairs and sleep in beds and that is about it. can't even drink from people's toilets. disgraceful
game helpfully crashes 5 seconds after i decide i should get some sleep. very handy!
my character has not said a single thing since i started playing. not one peep. this is an unmitigated improvement over Fallout 4 i'm so glad honestly
the more i poke around the big city the more the NPC quips feel like something out of gen-1 pokemon. can't get enough of this coffee :) this city is where it's at :) spacesuits are comfy and easy to wear
very strange sense of altered reality from the quest dialogue too. has anyone at bethesda met a person before? i move on to some mission that has me scanning wildlife on a faraway planet hoping this will, somehow, feel less alien than human conversation
just as with No Man's Sky, every planet is uniformly dotted with equidistantly-placed points of interest that you slowly make your way to (no vehicles besides your jetpack) which always turn out to be some cave or building identical to those you've cleared before
unlike with No Man's Sky, the seamless exploration is faked and the biodiversity is nil. you do get an impressive amount of raw loading screens however
the prefab bases and power stations found everywhere on planets seem to have very sparse, very specific slots for spawning consumables, which results in encountering some giant industrial installation in the middle of nowhere with, i don't know, a loaf of whole-grain sandwich bread just casually sitting next to it all proper. there is no breathable atmosphere here. who is eating this
planetary traversal is a CHORE. i am saying this as someone who loved Death Stranding
heinous "hold to confirm" buttons sprinkled in various flow-breaking places throughout the interface
enemy AI is abominable. nobody is pathing their way to get my ass. "must've been the wind" taken to the next level. an infant playing peekaboo has more object permanence
hoisting yourself up on ledges when jumping is…nice
companions randomly nowhere to be found. persists through multiple fast-travels and loading screens until, just as randomly, they pop back up
storage space is now limited! unlike in Fallout 4 and virtually every other bethesda game, your containers now hold a finite item capacity. god forbid we let the player have fun
baffling inventory UI. i imagine there's a mod out there that completely overhauls it the way SkyUI did for Skyrim. this should not be needed! how are your UIs getting worse a decade later!
scanning the precious few species inhabiting some dusty planet; one of them is this arching red root i've already seen several times before. my job done in this biome, i travel (read: teleport with a loading screen) to the polar region to find some other species. the first one i catalogue is the exact same red root again but this time it's named "boreas root" todd howard is a genius
some alien horror comes at me full fangs out. i hop on a pebble. obscenely, i am safe
procedural terrain generation beyond dull, impossibly unimaginative. these people have not had one critical thought on what makes a procedural world interesting. beginning to feel validated in my belief that only i should be trusted with proc gen. along with perhaps tarn adams
jokes aside this is making me feel genuinely insane. there have been excellent procedural generation techniques that produce compelling explorable maps for decades now. bethesda absolutely has the budget and know-how to do miles better than this yet somehow they just…do not? the same way Pokemon has decided to just no longer bother with their mainline games despite being the highest-grossing media franchise in history? hello? what is for real going on
some of the most cynical breadcrumbing i've seen in years. approaching some random cave and this person in space gear, who in the vast immensity of the infinite cosmos just happens to be snapping pictures right here, tells me more-or-less verbatim "if you like this place, you should see this other place" [other random cave has been added to your map.]
i do not like how good this makes No Man's Sky's gameplay look. it depresses me how much i have to hand it to No Man's Sky for at least not fucking up this bad. please stop making me wish i was playing No Man's Sky instead this is grotesque
i think i've exhausted my interest and patience for this game at the moment. i'll get back to the main story at some point and try some other systems ie. crafting and base-building to see if there's any engagement to be found but so far, my god. my god

A really underrated part of how the inhibitor chips are handled in canon is the fact that they can't be removed without an invasive procedure that has some risk. Whenever a character has his taken out it’s never necessarily an easy choice, a symbolic reminder that it takes bravery to choose not to be controlled by a system, and it gives these moments a lot more emotionality and impact because it’s not just a convenient plot device to restore or preserve their agency.
The most heroic moment Fives has is when learns he has this thing in him and he doesn't even hesitate to tell AZI to get it out, even if trying might kill him, because it so brazenly defies the way all clones have been positioned as powerless pawns whose individuality and choices ultimately won't matter in the big plan. When Rex has been activated and manages to get out just enough words to tell Ahsoka what to do to help him, it's a pretty powerful way of showing how much he trusts her at the end of their journey together throughout the war. Wrecker is the most hesitant to have his removed because he's scared of surgery but sees it's what is safest for everyone.
And thinking about it this way makes me appreciate why Rex's resistance has generally only been acting to help clones that have already willingly turned on the Empire, even though they always try not to hurt the others who may still on some level not be in control of themselves and, some could say, also need help. It makes me understand why the Batch couldn't just try to capture Crosshair at some point in season 1 and make him get his chip removed, something he'd never agree to while still under its influence.
It's implied that the Kaminoans subjected the Batch and Omega to a lot of scary and probably painful tests and procedures as they grew up - so much that Omega understands Echo being triggered by waking up hooked up to monitors and she dreads going back to being used in a lab. Fandom plays this up for angst in fanworks and rightfully calls the Kaminoans horrible for denying them agency over their own bodies in this and many other ways. Even if for a much better reason, the clone troopers who've left the Empire don't really have the right to treat their brothers that way and risk their safety when they're not in a state of being able to consent to it.
Just as none of the clones can reasonably hold themselves accountable for things they've done because of the inhibitor chips, they also can't be considered responsible for saving each other from being controlled by them. It's the Emperor and the Kaminoans that did this to all of them.

Can you draw human version of Niffty? Your Alastor and Mimzy human designs are gorgeous and I was wondering about your thoughts on Niffty 🥺
I really enjoyed drawing my human version of her XD And she's a fun character in general. I really hope we'll get more information about her in the next season.
But for now, I headcanon that because of her OCD and, maybe, some sort of hysteria her relatives might have sent her for a lobotomy because in the 1930-50s this surgical procedure was so advertised that even a child who just couldn't sit still could be sent there (as advertisers often claim that after the surgery, patients became calm and didn't cause trouble). So Niffty may have suffered from her passion for cleaning and since the brain was accessed through the eye socket, maybe that's why she has one eye in Hell now.
