Not sure if mug or little bowl or jar but it is a shiny gourd! (Sold) I tried a new clay for this one, with little speckles, you can see it through the white glaze on the inside (best seen in the last pic). I like it, will use this clay again! 馃崅

Chill day at home with Sammy girl finishing some little pumpkins and the last three bottles after cleaning up the patricks. Last on the list are little kiln fillers which I鈥檒l tackle tomorrow and Sunday! Then it鈥檚 final slip and glaze application before we fire in three weeks.

ENOCH TEA LIGHT HANGING CANDLE HOLDER ~ process post
Tumblr media
this was the sketch - wanted him to hang, have a flowy body and poseable arms and a ceramic head for the candle with cutouts in eyes and nose
Tumblr media Tumblr media
spent a day putting him together from slabs and coils. if anyone has any ideas for how to hand build, decorate and support spherical objects while drying that would be great because i was scared to put him down the entire day!! i ended up drying him by loosely placing his back hole over a toilet paper roll and then draping plastic over
Tumblr media Tumblr media
underglazed him at leather hard with amaco velvet underglazes (true orange, orange mixed with red, green mixed with grey) - this is about 3 coats but I had some trouble getting it to really stick on the eye/mouth coils
plopped him on the kiln shelf for his first firing and then prayed to the kiln gods
he came out of the bisque firing really good! he had a couple little cracks but structurally great. dunked him in some clear glaze all over. we're running low and it was very shallow so he had to go in twice, poor guy.
wiped off the rectangular opening in the back so he could be fired face-up. i forgot to wipe him off BEFORE dunking so the glaze didn't dry great on some spots, which also maybe has to do with the underglaze??
prayed more to the kiln gods...
...
...
and then...
Tumblr media
he looks great!!!!!!! unharmed by the glaze firing and came out looking so luscious! the green underglaze came out a completely different color than i expected but i think it looks great!!
now to get some wire, some green ribbon and felt, and a candle for him...
