#u know I think it's very interesting that in my particular corner of the internet anyway #the discussions around cultural appropriate wrt to asian cultures specifically started off like #in this pleasantly nuanced manner of looking at orientalism and the way asian cultures are depicted and at once parodied and fetishized #but never represented in a way that gives them the same level of complexity and humanity as white ppl and western culture #and people were pointing out the hypocrisy of that vs. when that culture is taken and profited from and celebrated but only when The Whites #r doin it #and misrepresented like the world's shittiest game of telephone etc etc etc #and then in the past couple of years it narrowed down to this really shitty thing of like 'white people shouldn't enjoy anything from other #cultures ever'#which was fucking stupid #BUT THEN there was obviously backlash against THAT as well so now there's people who are like no!! cultural appreciation or whatever!!#and I think it is VERY INTERESTING that the trajectory of this whole discussion leaves us back with white people once again at the centre #what they can do #what's appropriate #what culture can I take and participate in and enjoy BLAH BLAH BLAH and NONE of the root of the issue has been addressed #we've just breezed right past it yet again
