Los Angeles Times! See me, more patients and the studio!
So you may have wondered why Habersham's story followed so quickly on the heels of Lucky the Bear's, and the reason is, it was a bit of a teaser.
Over the past few months, I have been interviewed for almost 2 hours by a reporter for the LA Times. Then a photographer came out to the hospital and took photos of me and the hospital and the patients I had at the time (for another two hours!). And then a few weeks ago, another photographer came out to take portraits of the patients I had then. Including one of Habersham. Then, yesterday, September 10, this appeared as the cover of the LA Times Calendar section:
Tumblr media
That's Habersham before his surgery. And a wonderful play on Tears for Fears for the title of the story. :-) There's a two page spread inside the paper, and you can read it, and see a lot (if not all) of the photos online here. If the link doesn't work, you can also go to the LA Times and search "toy hospital" in the search box on the site and you should find the article that way too.
Anyway, as you may imagine, I've been doing a bit of a happy dance about the story all weekend. And I really wanted to share it with all of you because a) I thought you might enjoy the article and b) the reporter found me in part because of this blog which you all have chosen to read and follow and like over the years, so you all deserve thanks for the article too!

The Antichrists of Beyblade (Part 1): Damian the Deceiver
Tumblr media
Damian's character shares many similarities with the concept of the Antichrist found in the Bible as well as popular culture. This will provide another perspective on the character in relation to previous analyses I have made on him, as well as on other characters. The Antichrist is a concept that has been applied to many characters, but it is generally tied to the idea of an entity who deceives humanity in order to attain and usurp a position he doesn't deserve or wasn't meant for him. Damian embodies that concept particularly well.
The name Damian means to subdue or dominate, which is what he attempts to do during Metal Masters as he asserts his superiority over his opponents. It is also reminiscent of the purpose of the Antichrist, to dominate the minds of humans and subdue the world. Damian is also tied to Demeter, goddess of agriculture, whose daughter Persephone became the queen of Hell. Damian, unlike his team members, is more tied to Hell, and it is more difficult for him to escape this reality, the realm of Hades Inc. Finally, the name "Damian" sounds similar to the word "demon" in English, which is why it was apparently chosen as the name of one of the most famous fictional Antichrist, Damien Thorn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both are tied to Hell, possess a hellhound (Kerbecs for Damian), live with wealthy people (the Thorns and Ziggurat), and abuse their powers by harming others. Additionally, there is the chorus that plays each time they use their special abilities. Finally, the name "Damian" is also tied to the patron saint of doctors, Saint Damian, who shares this patronage with his colleague (and sometimes brother), Saint Cosmas. They used to heal people without asking for anything in return, which is the opposite of what Ziggurat does: he always tries to gain something from someone, and the results of his healing are somewhat dubious. What is interesting is that "Cosmas" (which means cosmos, synonymous with universe) can be tied to Gingka, who has (in the dub) Cosmic Pegasus and whose name itself means galaxy (something that is part of the cosmos). This illustrates Damian and Gingka's duality and the ties they have to each other as opposite figures.
Damian's design is very atypical compared to most characters; it looks closer to what a Burst character would wear. @mach-speed-spinh-speed already made a compelling post about Damian's design, which gave me ideas, here , I will not describe everything about his design, so I recommend you check the post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Damian's cap and jumper suit are a little reminiscent of Ryuga's own design, who also employs black and white as dominant colors. Damian also wears armor, which makes him appear bigger than he actually is and more threatening. In a way, this design is made to lure us into thinking that Damian is similar to Ryuga in the sense that he is the main antagonist and the main threat, but in the anime, he is not. The color choice is interesting because the exterior is white and gold, almost heroic in a way; it seems like Damian tries to appear as a sort of hero or rather to eclipse the hero of the story by appearing as the incarnation of the concept of the chosen one. Indeed, his attire makes him stand out from the rest; he is not like anybody else; he is special. Or rather, that's what the writer wants us to think. His hair is quite peculiar; they look similar to Ziggurat's in terms of style. They look like horns or ears of dogs (fittingly, Damian has three pairs of spikes usually like Kerbecs has three heads, so three pairs of ears).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Antichrist receives power from the devil and manages to miraculously heal itself. Damian received power from Ziggurat, who represents the devil, and he managed to endure many special moves throughout his fights (such as Black Excalibur, most of Kyoya’s arsenal, etc.). Everyone was surprised and, in a way, mesmerized by his power, even Gingka himself was shocked until they were told that it was the arrangement system. Furthermore, Damian managed to win against Julian, who called himself an emperor, the highest-ranking title of a monarch in Europe. And the Antichrist is described as a beast with crown, symbols signifying its power and authority. Damian's victory against Julian in a way establishes him as a threat but symbolically his authority and fake superiority over all bladers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, the Antichrist desribed as a beast in the Book of Revelation comes from the seas, and the first appearance at Hades Gate and Kerbecs (who is also a multiheaded beast) is at the same time the stadium is filled with the Cetus’s water, giving an impression of the gate rising from the sea. In the gates, a winged Cerberus is explicitly shown during its first appearance. Wings are often tied with Gingka's Pegasus in the series. However, this surprising association reflects an appropriation by Kerbecs of something that doesn't belong to him, almost like he is trying to usurp Pegasus. And that's what Damian is trying to do; by winning the match against Gingka, he would have officially become the strongest blader in the world, but he wouldn't have earned that position because of the fact he relied on the arrangement. Ryo and Hikaru also strongly insisted on the necessity for Gingka to win because they needed a true blader to show the world what beyblading means. Damian shouldn't have succeeded at any cost because it could have created a precedent which would have irrevocably harmed the world of Beyblade. Also, Damian, like the beast described in the Book of Revelation, insults people. It's not blasphemy, but he called everyone weak, even people as hardworking as Kyoya and Julian.
Despite his seemingly godly power, Damian is chained to Ziggurat and to a life he didn't choose. The Antichrist is merely a pawn to the devil to enact his plans; it cannot change nor deny its destined path. However, the entity finding another path is a theme that was explored in other works of fiction, such as the Good Omens series, in which Adam Young, the Antichrist of the series, is swapped with another baby and ends up living in an English village instead of inheriting a life of luxury as the son of a wealthy American diplomat (the name Damian was also put forward for him).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He ends up in a family with loving parents who put limits on his behavior; he has a bunch of friends whom he plays games within the woods. What is important is that Adam has had a fulfilling childhood with actual parenting, and in the end, he rejects his father (the Devil) arguing that Satan was never there for him, unlike his human father, and that he is obviously only concerned with using his power. The reason it ties with Damian is that he was (probably) raised by Ziggurat, who is by all accounts a sociopath, who hates children and, most of all, encouraged Damian's sadistic nature, calling the "results" against Excalibur "outstanding." Also, Damian is very pale, more than other characters, and he is only rivaled by Rago, who seemingly spent a significant part of his life in a closed room. He doesn't know what dirt is; in the Japanese dub, when dirty, he said: "What is this?". Damian lived in a very controlled environment, in total opposition to Gingka, whose father faked his death to send him on a journey. Damian's situation is best symbolized by Kerbecs's beast, which only appears when the gate of Hades appears or inside of it (except once, but very briefly in episode 94). He probably never really had a childhood and never experienced the outside world. He also doesn't seem to know what the concept of fun is and is more concerned with competing in his job, arguing that he is destined and chosen to do beyblade, like the Antichrist is destined to bring the world to its end. Damian can't escape Ziggurat or that path that was chosen for him because he obviously didn't have a choice and didn't question the doctor's motives. Damian doesn't have friends like Julian to support him and help him find a better path.
In a recent post, I put forward the possibility that Damian's flashback/backstory happened more recently than it seems, which would also mean he is younger than many think. I still believe in this since Ziggurat said he started the conception of the arrangement system after the end of Battle Bladers, Damian's physical changes can all be explained by the arrangement, he didn't grow taller... The reason I'm bringing this up is that even if true or false, this is another deception; we don't really know how old he is, and I genuinely think the writer made it unclear. Damian looks bigger and more threatening than he actually is, and even though he hurts people physically and mentally in the most horrendous ways, he is Ziggurat's victim as well as his creation; his behavior is the result of the arrangement but also of his education. In a way Damian acts a lot like the doctor. They both like to feel superior to others, they use others as test subjects for their inventions/power, they deny reality in equal measures, they are sadistic and manipulative... Damian is a child who doesn't know any better and who has a warped sense of reality because Ziggurat really believes in all the things he says about the arrangement. Which further deceives Damian and drives him further from the truth that he can't understand anymore. He deceives others into thinking he is strong, big, and powerful, but he also deceives himself. Ironically, he told Julian and Kyoya to stop their "tough guy act," but he is the one doing that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
During his final in episode 100, Kyoya managed to break the hell dimension before damaging the Hell/Hades fusion of Kerbecs and leaving the room full of cracks. This represents how this battle, more than the one with Gingka, impacted and literally shattered Damian's worldview, or rather the one that was forced upon him by Ziggurat. He escaped the fate of sinking to the abyss with the demoniac doctor and his city, but in a way, he is still punished for his actions. He who liked putting others in despair is driven to despair as he lost everything of value to him; he called people weak, he will become weak and powerless without the arrangement, he thought of being the chosen one, he will completely disappear, not even mentioned by anyone. This is Damian's tragedy; his bey is the only one whose constellation doesn't exist anymore; he doesn't shine like the others. Like Cerberus, the only world in which he belongs is Hades, but it was destroyed. Being freed could have been an opportunity for his character to build his own identity, but he wasn't given his chance.
Like the Antichrist, Damian seeks to subdue others with illusory through deception, but in the end, he was the one who was the most deceived.

I have no idea if this will be a two part post or a series of things, but I wanted to write a little about Forgotten Realms for new BG3 fans. I decided the best start was here:
Baldur's Gate Primer: Fantasy Kitchen Sink and CRPGs
The Forgotten Realms began as an official campaign setting for Advanced Dungeons and Dragons ("1e") in 1987 and published by TSR Inc, the gaming company that originally published D&D.
Since its introduction, the Forgotten Realms' world of Toril has been wildly popular, jumping over the then more established Greyhawk, Dragonlance, and several other settings whose influences were based High Middle Ages Northern and Central Europe (and the unfortunate implications of Central Asian Nomads with monsters such as orcs and goblins). Ed Greenwood is the loving (if slightly horny) creator of the Realms, though many authors have written stories within the setting for several good reasons.
The Realms is an excellent Fantasy Kitchen Sink.
While Toril has several European influences, it has little to do with High Middle Ages in world building and more to do with 19th century based on nation states with the aesthetics of the Late Renaissance in terms of art, culture, and technology.
Toril also took inspiration from other cultures with their nations and continents:
The first of Toril's continents written about was Kara-Tur, which was introduced before the 'official campaign book' and heavily focused based on East Asian.
Another continent based on Central Indigenous nations (Mayan and Aztec) called Maztica, who are giving the Faerun colonists hell due to their magic and their immune systems, and consider themselves the 'True World'.
There’s the nation of Zakhara that’s based between Faerun and Kara-Tur, making it a touch on the nose since it's based on Arabian Nights.
The nation Chult is based after the Congo Basin rainforest, though it really seems like whoever made this development slept through Heart of Darkness. (It went away for a little while, but it's back now.)
Meanwhile Calimshan and Mulhorand are based after Morocco and Egypt.
Bear in mind, despite good intentions that Ed Greenwood and TSR had, a lot of the old lore comes off as Orientalist, and WotC hasn't done much to update it save slapping a disclaimer on PDF files and not much else with these settings save a bare description.
However, if some dork-ass tells you that Wyll and BIPOC are going against the lore accuracy, tell them to fuck off. The Forgotten Realm was introduced with a BIPOC setting despite it’s flaws.
Due to the diversity of the 'Realms', the setting has attracted writers, artists, and campaign designers who developed some of D&D's most iconic characters and thus influenced a lot of how D&D's multiverse structure. Players loved the lore of the Realms and the feeling their characters could be from anywhere and do anything. This is in contrast to Greyhawk never really growing past it's War Game boundaries as a world and Dragonlance's creators being highly protective of it's inflexible plot with the lack of multiple settings.
So it made sense when TSR approached the game developer SISI with their Gold Box Engine with the Forgotten Realms in mind. SISI's first D&D based game is called Pool of Radiance, and the game took place in Faerun’s Moonsea region in the ruins of Phlan, where adventurers fought off undead and fiends to help give a new city a fighting chance in rebuilding. While SISI would dabble in Dragonlance and Dark Sun (a post apocalyptic setting that is so fucking grim dark, Githyanki ran away from Dark Sun's world of Athas screaming), most of their games were based in Forgotten Realms.
For those curious about the Gold Box Game series: when BG1 was my 13 year-old-heart's special interest, I played them. It's really, really weird because so much of the story is in the manual and clunky as fuck. But I was itching to play anything DnD at the time.
In 1997, TSR was purchased in 1997 by Wizards of the Coast (WotC), though it allowed the continued development of yet another CRPG set in the Realms by a then unknown company called Bioware. In 1998, Bioware released Baldur's Gate and using the Infinity Engine Bioware, Black Isle, and WotC would continue to make several games including BG2, BG:TOB, and Neverwinter Nights before parting ways in 2006 with Bioware. Bioware would then focus on its own wildly successful CRPG IPs.
By then, WotC was owned by Habsro (since 1999) and after two decades of excellent turn based CRPGs, they stopped focus on the genre when Neverwinter Nights 2 didn’t do as well as its predecessor and focused on different genres such as Hack’n’Slash, Action Adventure, and Boardgames - though they were all set in the Forgotten Realms.
However one of these games would reach the popularity of the Gold Box, Infinity, or Aurora engine based games (BG, Icewind Dale, and Planescape Torment) . The only turned based CRPGs that were released from 2007 to 2020  were remakes of the Infinity Engine games by Beamdog Studios who attempted to get the rights to make BG3.
WotC declined Beamdog, deciding to approach Larian studios instead for Baldur’s Gate 3 in 2016, likely wanting to approach a style closer to Neverwinter Nights rather than isometric. Due to D&D new popularity, both companies expected that BG3 would do well, but neither company had any idea how big Baldur’s Gate 3 would be.
I'm likely going to do a post on the important historical events in the Realms mentioned in BG3 - and some that are not.

Twenty Books Challenge
Hypothetically, you are only able to keep 20 of your books. Only one book per author/series. So what books are you keeping? Credit due to @the-forest-library (I have been thinking about this list for like a week straight)
Guardians of the West by David and Leigh Eddings - any of the Belgariad/Mallorean series frankly. I read these series I don't know how many times as teen. Yes, they are a problematic. Yes they are trope-y as hell but I love them.
Memory by Lois McMaster Bujold - inching just barely above Miles in Love or Mountains of Mourning.
Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison - This is a book that always makes me cry.
Whale Talk by Chris Cutcher - A swim team comprised of various kids with disabilities and are deeply flawed but are also attempting to do good things? I wish this was on every book list for teens.
All Systems Red (Murderbot Diaries) by Martha Wells - I mean all murderbot series is great. Funny story, I told my mom to read this book eons ago and she only read it after a librarian recommended it.
Return of the King by JRR Tolkien - though technically LotR is one book and I don't have single copies of this anymore. But the scouring of the shire just hits me in different places when I read it.
A Child's Anthology of Poetry edited by Elizabeth Hauge Sword and Victoria Flournoy McCarthy - My textbook of poetry when I was young.
Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr - Another a book that makes me absolutely sob.
The Realms of the Gods by Tamora Pierce - I love the Wild Magic Series the most of all Pierce's series. And yes, I recognize the problematic relationship. But also, talking badger.
Sabriel by Garth Nix - I'm sorry the far superior goth necromancer with bells.
First Truth by Dawn Cook - If had I pick one of the truth series. I have an unnatural fondness of a book series that combines magic with Punnett Squares.
Macbeth by William Shakespeare. Narrowly above Midsummer Night's Dream. But the tomorrow speech is an absolute banger.
All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot - Any of the Herriot books. I read these almost to pieces.
Double Whammy by Carl Hiassen - It was this or Squeeze Me. But Skink really deserves to saved.
House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski - Post Modern Horror.
Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein - More Poetry of my childhood.
Dark Tales by Shirley Jackson - specifically The Possibility of Evil.
Daredevil vol 6 by Mark Waid, Chris Samnee - Graphic Novels count and I will fight you. This has one of the first individual issues I picked up.
Sandman vol. 8: World's End by Neil Gaiman, Micha Allred - Sandman holds a near and dear place in my heart. It was a close call between this and American Gods or Preludes and Nocturnes. But I will have echoes of Crements in my head.
Hawkeye vol. 4: Rio Bravo by Matt Fraction, David Aja - Pizza Dog! Also any of the volumes are fantastic and visually gorgeous.
I did take the prompt literally, but here are five more books I either always buy on kindle/can only get as an ebook. I would pay an extraordinary amount of money for these in print.
Toad Words and other stories by T Kingfisher - I was following her when she was still writing fantasy!
I Reap You Not by Catelyn Winona - Second Person done right.
True Porn Clerk Stories by Ali Davis - This causes me to giggle, rage, and cry.
The Heiress Effect by Courtney Milan - Brothers Sinister series is the standard I compare all Regency Novels to.
Night Shift by Stephen King - Specifically Quitter's Inc. But frankly any collection of Stephen King is gold.
Tagging @thatoldstandby, @msfehrwight, @raventycho, @timemachineyeah, @theneptuneviolin and anyone else. And of course you can include pictures too.

❝ “wait, how do you know where i live? are you a creepy stalker too?” you cry, trying to break free from his vice grip again.
“no, i’m just your guardian angel.” ❞
despite being one of the best at gokumonkyo angels inc, gojo satoru had no idea what he would be getting himself into when he agreed to temporarily watch over you as your guardian angel.

gojo satoru thought humans were weird. sure they were fun to observe every now and then, but some of the choices they made drove him to near insanity with wonder. he’d often seen the other guardian angels wipe away the faint trickle of a salty tear when their human’s heart got broken, or turning red in the face from white-hot anger. you see, a guardian angel is connected to it’s human through the heart, meaning any sort of emotion would be amplified in an angel’s body, the most common one being heartbreak. when he was still getting used to his wings and finding his bearings in the giant headquarters satoru often sat with his mentor yaga who’d lounge day after day in front of his gold-plated television, watching as his human continued to get their heart broken by too many people. satoru thought it was ludicrous that there was nothing a guardian angel could do: according to the guidebook every new angel must learn off by heart, matters of the emotion were not considered physical threats. guardian angels only protected their humans by steering them away from choices that would bring an untimely end so they were forbidden from intervening. this precious rule to maintain balance between the two colliding worlds irritated satoru even as he worked his way up through the ranks to become the well-respected angel he is today. vying for change within his realm, gojo took on the immense responsibility of mentoring younger angels, just as he had been mentored by yaga. but the difference between him and his old, traditional teacher was that he was far more active (though the more common phrase he’d heard was ‘radical’) and pushed his students to experiment with where an angel ends and their human starts, much to others’ chagrin.
despite having this reputation at gokumonkyo angels, he’d yet to be assigned to a permanent human, not being able to last longer than a few months each time. this was not his fault (as he was so often reminded out of pity) as it just so happened he couldn’t help but feel most connected to those in tragedy. despite his somewhat shallow persona, in his heart satoru was aware of how tirelessly nanami kento, a fellow angel and friend, worked to find him a match. at the most ungodly hours of the night the snowy-haired angel would creep into the assignment room and snoop around the blond’s computer for a bit (just because they’re angels doesn’t mean they can’t use modern technology!), looking through many profiles of humans his age that have yet to be assigned to an angel. every night he did this, it would reach a certain point where the frustration would boil over and satoru would stalk out of the room again with a face like thunder, his thoughts flying a thousand kilometres a minute.
to everyone’s demise he often joked that he was too good for anyone and would simply ascend to godhood on his own before being smacked upside the head by utahime for indulging in his overconfidence.
back on earth, it was just another hectic day of many for you as you woke up late once again for your morning lecture, the one that you’d signed up for on a whim with high hopes (and a touch of delusion) that it would be the sole reason for breaking your bad sleeping habits. so far, no progress has been made as you tear yourself away from the warm cosy covers like a band-aid from a wound. you grumble as you brush your teeth and pull on a hoodie, hoping not to run into too many people on your way to the lecture hall. barely managing to wolf down some breakfast, you scramble into the hall with a few other stragglers and squeeze into an empty seat, fumbling with your laptop and willing it to wake up a little bit faster so you could at least get down the title of today’s lecture. how ironic.
your only friend in class sat too many rows away from you (obviously having arrived on time), diligently taking notes whilst you couldn’t be bothered to glide your fingers over the keys like normal. you stared blankly at the powerpoint, the slides flickering in your sullen gaze, as the chill of the room settled into the open crevices of your clothes. from the moment you had woken up a strange feeling settled in your gut and you weren’t a fan of it. you felt unprotected and exposed, like a child who has just realised they were babbling away to no one and that their parent was nowhere in sight. wanting nothing more than to crawl back into the safe cocoon of your bed, you counted down the seconds until you were free again.
-
“suguru?”
no response.
“suguru? it’s satoru,” he calls softly.
geto suguru’s room was as dull as a rainy day, save for the faint flickering glow of the television in the corner. suguru himself was sprawled out on his couch, wings curled neatly beneath his body, shivering slightly. his eyes were sealed shut and it was obvious that he wasn’t watching anything that his human was doing on screen. sighing, satoru turned the television off and pushed back the thick cream curtains, allowing the light to flood the room once more. his best friend awoke with a jolt, sleep still in his eyes and his inky hair ruffled messily about his shoulders.
“morning sleepy head. didn’t you rest enough last night?”satoru jokes light-heartedly, before realising that suguru was not laughing along and instead looked more gaunt that usual. worriedly, he rushes over to his side and placed a hand to his best friend’s forehead, which is covered in a sheen of sweat.
“oh my god, suguru you need to see the doctor right now!”
“all. night. they were up all. damn. night,”suguru whispers hoarsely in reply, fingers curling weakly against the ivory cushions. he clears his throat, a horrible hacking sound, and groans.
“kept you on your toes? listen ru, you need to see a doctor. like, right now!” satoru gestures wildly. shaking his head suguru tries to sit up but winces and collapses again.
“i’ll watch over your human until you get better, okay? what’s their name?”
“y/n...” suguru mumbles weakly. another series of coughs rack his body and satoru, internally panicking, flies him straight to yaga and drops him off without a single word. once he returns he goes about cleaning geto’s room, sweeping the floors and dusting down the television, which is now back on at full power and showcasing your riveting day at university.
“this already looks boring,” the platinum-haired angel mutters, resting his chin on porcelain hands. “it’s like watching paint dry.”
-
between arriving home after a gruelling day at school, doing the bare minimum revision for three hours and taking a hot shower, you had worked up an appetite. you were craving some cheap and cheerful food from the convenience store, and you thought tonight would be the perfect opportunity to go anyway, after discovering a shopping list you’d pinned up on your fridge during one of your more productive days. snatching up the note and pulling on your trainers, you were out the door in a flash, heading towards the convenience store a few minutes away from your home. the feeling from this morning had still not left your gut, and had now wormed its way into your chest, sometimes making your breathing irregular. you weren’t too on edge but more alert to your surroundings than normal, just the occasional blare of a siren somewhere far off making you jump. you arrived at the store with no problem and silently cheered as you were washed over by the stark white LED lights, thankful that it was still open at a time like this. as you wandered the derelict aisles of the store, you hadn’t noticed the hooded figure shadow you as you pondered between your two favourite ramen flavours. but someone else had.
-
“oh. my. god.”
gojo satoru stiffens in his seat as he watches the hooded figure follow you into the store and join you in the ramen aisle a few moments later. his shoulders are so tense they begin to cramp as you stay oblivious, even when the figure had reached for the same ramen you had, clearly with no intention of buying it. alarm bells were pounding in satoru’s head but he waits a while longer, watching you pay and skip out with your new haul.
before the hooded figure could even notice that you had payed already, satoru dashes for the main lobby of gokumonkyo angels inc and barrels into the junikyu - a special type of elevator and the main link between angels and humans, transporting them immediately to anywhere in a 3km radius of their human. the junikyu also provided the angel with a set of ‘human’ clothes of their choice to conceal their wings and help them blend in a little better. yukatas aren’t really in modern fashion anymore, are they?
this time, satoru is taken to a run-down motel around the corner of the store you had just visited. his head throbbed and he knew this meant that danger was becoming more and more imminent so he hastily changes into the sunglasses, hoodie, leather jacket and jeans he had been given, hopefully concealing his wings. the elevator dings almost comedically as if it was mocking the rush against time that the angel was in. he hopes that he isn’t too late as he sprints down the street but then he sees you on the other side of the road. full of relief, he rushes up behind you, bristling against the person in dark clothing coldly. satoru lazily slings an arm around your shoulders, startling you greatly as you try and wrestle him off.
“dude! what the hell-”
“there’s someone following you, i’m trying to make sure you’re safe and if you don’t believe me, look for yourself,” he whispers into your ear and you shiver before turning your body slightly. he feels you tense up beneath him and you turn back around.
“thanks for this but we’re still being followed!” you whisper back loudly.
curses, it’s the diligent type. satoru shakes his head and wordlessly grabs your hand, breaking out into a sprint with you stumbling behind him, your shopping bumping painfully at your side. neither of you know if you’ve lost them until you reach the entrance of your apartment block.
now in clearer lighting, you get a real good look at your ‘hero’. his hairs is shockingly white but somehow very fitting for a person like him. it flutters over his eyes a little, which are covered by a pair of designer shades - at night? as you stare at them for a bit too long, trying to see past the murky black tint, the only word to describe the rest of him is ethereal. not to mention, while you were pressed against his side a moment ago you noticed how toned he was... is he wearing anything under that hoodie?
you almost allow yourself to be bewitched by his charming good-looks and angelic smile before you harsh reality slaps you across the face.
“thanks but you can really let go now, dude.”
“not until you’re inside your apartment,” satoru replies firmly, having already memorised your apartment number and floor from when he snuck around the files on suguru’s desk out of boredom earlier this afternoon.
“wait, how do you know where i live? are you a creepy stalker too?” you cry, trying to break free from his vice grip again.
“no, i’m just your guardian angel.”
the words ricocheted inside your mind, whizzing around the space between the front of your brain and the back of your confused eyes. you shake your head and force out a laugh awkwardly. your so-called guardian angel did not laugh back.
“wow, you got me there! pick up lines are so extreme nowadays...”
“satoru. gojo satoru.”
“you got me there satoru. now can you stop being so creepy before i call the police? thanks!” you exclaim with a sickly sweetness like that of vanilla fondant. satoru remains emotionless, a different character from the person who saved you only minutes ago.
“seriously, i’m your guardian angel. they exist, y/n,” he tries again.
why is he telling you this? he’s done his job and normally he would be long gone by now. but there’s something about you that is keeping him here and he knows he won’t leave until you are safe asleep in bed.
his voice is as hard as the grey linoleum squeaking beneath your trainers as he continues to escort you back to your apartment.
“ok so not only do you know where i live, you also know my name? i’m seriously going to call the police.”
you slide your phone out of your hoodie pocket and reach to unlock it. panicking, satoru smacks it out of your hand on reflex and it lands with a painful crack on the floor. you both stand there, gobsmacked, before you reach down an assess the damage. luckily, nothing has been scratched or smashed and you wipe at your blurry reflection in the murky black mirror, your hands shaking slightly. you sigh, genuinely frustrated and irritated now.
“satoru, was it? i don’t know who you are or why you’re still here but you have to go home. look, i’m at my apartment now. i’m safe.” you mutter this darkly and give him a hard stare, which he completely disregards as he pulls his hand away from yours and slides them into his pockets.
“i need a place to stay tonight, yaga just will have to let me back into gokumonkyo tomorrow,” he says with a yawn: he’s clearly waiting for you to unlock your door.
you cannot believe the gall of this handsome stranger. goku-what now?
“um hello? you fucking idiot! go home!” he flinches at your colourful language and you roll your eyes at this. this cold stranger you met not even half an hour ago is asking to be let into your home so he can crash for the night? and he claims to be your guardian angel? sure, he saved you from that creep and he’s very easy on the eyes but there is no way you were going to let him stay, even if it meant putting up a stern front and a petty fight.
and eventually calling the police to have him escorted off of your property.
satoru is, of course, oblivious to your irateness, despite feeling something like it himself. he felt weird inside; his insides burned like fire and he wanted to scream at you, punch you, kick you. but of course, he didn’t and merely tried to control his breathing, knowing it was the reflection of your emotions towards him. he didn’t like this feeling at all; he much preferred the one he’d felt when he first saw you. the weird fluttery feeling in his stomach, the increased heart rate and the irresistible urge to smile. he doesn’t know why, but his brain is a peculiar thing and suddenly he’s blurting out this question like it wouldn’t mean anything to the both of you.
“remember when you were five? and you fell into that pond?”
he has no idea where this is coming from or where it’s going.
you seize up immediately, hand clamped around your keys. the familiar feeling of the water constricting your body like a fierce python, the underwater reeds latching to your ankles and yanking you down to the pond’s muddy bed. the entire thing swallowing you wholly. as you struggled to stay above the water that flooded every crevice and pore of your skin, you recall brilliant white light and a pair of strong arms lifting you. the water had rushed back into the pond like an animal recoiling after a hit and as you lay on the grass of the bank, soft porcelain hands placed themselves on your heart. you still remember the incredible warmth that had replaced the frigidity of the pond, comforting your body like a blanket and drying out the water on your skin until you were perfectly fine. you also remember brilliant blue eyes as clear as the midday sky before everything had become fuzzy.
“y-yes...i fell in and must’ve passed out. when i woke up, i was completely dry,” you reply shakily. satoru’s eyebrows soften; he’s glad you remember.
“who saved you?” he prompts again.
“a boy from the village, a few years older than me.” at this, satoru’s face falls with bittersweetness. it was he who had saved you from death, snatching you away before it could take you for good at such a young age. he was a lot stricter with the rules of guardian angels back then and knew that angels were supposed to stay a secret, so he’d meddled with your memory and swapped himself for a village boy that was purely fictional. it also didn’t help that it was supposed to be suguru saving you, but for some reason he had left the tv unattended and by the time he had returned, gojo was already by your side. gently, he pries the keys out from your grasp and let the two of you in. you were a little shaken from recalling such trauma and he sat you down before beginning looking after you: he kept his jacket firmly on to hide the outline of his wings against his hoodie, but found an old blanket and handed it to you, along with a mug of hot tea. you smile weakly and sip the scalding tea, forcing it down even though it burned your throat. he sits quickly sits beside you after putting your shopping bag on the kitchen table.
“i don’t know if i’m breaking any codes by telling you this,” satoru begins softly, almost whispering. “but i think it has to be said because i’ve already said too much and it would be cruel to leave you like this. the reason i know about the pond incident is because i was the boy who saved you. not the village boy though, your guardian angel. well, technically i don’t really belong to you and you don’t belong to me but geto suguru, your real angel, couldn’t get to you on time. so i came to your rescue in his place. slowly he reaches up to the sides of his face and gently dislodges his sunglasses, folding them neatly on your coffe table. he doesn’t need to look at your reaction to know that you recognise his eyes.
silence settles again and you’re too overwhelmed to notice the hot mug burning your hands. but satoru gracefully takes it off you and sets it on a coaster without spilling a single drop.
“satoru?” you finally whisper. worry, an emotion he’s so familiar with, crosses his face and he reaches out to touch your cheek.
“yes?”
“thank you.”
he knows you’re not talking about the tea.

I don't typically write about podcast business partnerships, but this one is significant enough to expend some keystrokes. Mundo Hispano Digital, the parent company of MundoNow.com, one of the oldest Certified Minority Latino media platforms in the United States, announced a partnership with iHeartMedia, marking a significant milestone in the realm of LatinX media and marketing strategy. The new collaboration will include MundoNow’s audio network Oyénos’ slate of podcasts being distributed widely by iHeartPodcasts.
This new partnership allows Oyénos to leverage iHeartMedia’s vast reach, extensive sales network and marketing assets to further grow the LatinX media platform to new audiences.
Oyénos showcases the multifaceted experiences of Latinos in the USA, enriching the podcasting landscape with diverse narratives, and features an array of genres from True Crime and Paranormal to Astrology, News, Current Events, and In-Culture shows. Beginning today, 20 Oyénos shows will be available via iHeartPodcasts, with another 10 joining by June.
"We're thrilled to embark on this transformative partnership with iHeartPodcasts, solidifying our commitment to amplifying LatinX voices in the audio space," said Rene Alegria, President and CEO of MundoNow. "This collaboration represents a pivotal moment for Oyénos Audio, as we combine forces to deliver captivating content and innovative marketing strategies that resonate deeply with our community. In today’s ever-evolving media landscape, we continue to strive to deliver compelling, informative, and engaging content to a large and significantly still underserved audience – bilingual and bicultural Latinos."
The timing of this partnership couldn't be more opportune, as digital media consumption habits continue to evolve with monthly podcast listenership among Latinos increasing by 52 percent since 2022, nearly four times faster than the rate among the general U.S. population, according to Edison Research.
“We are excited to integrate Oyénos Audio into our iHeartPodcasts network including collaboration with our My Cultura network, continuing our effort to bring more diverse voices and content to our listeners and serving the needs of the Latin community,” said Michael Biondo, President of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships for iHeartMedia.

Check out season two of KQED’s award-winning investigative podcast On Our Watch, which is a gripping tale of corruption and tragedy that takes listeners inside California State Prison, Sacramento, also known as New Folsom. The show exposes the human cost of a system that promises to keep people safe, but instead is bent on protecting itself. Hosted by criminal justice reporter Sukey Lewis with reporting by Julie Small, “On Our Watch: New Folsom” tells the story of two correctional officers, Valentino Rodriguez Jr. and Sergeant Kevin Steele, who work in an elite investigative unit and what happens when they report corruption and abuse by their fellow officers.
An NPR and PBS affiliate based in San Francisco, KQED is home to one of the most listened-to public radio stations in the nation. KQED spent more than two years digging through hundreds of internal records, listening to interrogation tapes, and interviewing officers and incarcerated people to uncover the challenges Rodriguez and Steele overcame to speak out even as people they trusted turned against them. “On Our Watch: New Folsom” also gives listeners a window into hundreds of once-confidential documents KQED obtained by suing the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation [CDCR] that reveal a startling pattern of use of force enabled by a culture of silence at this high-security prison. “When we confronted CDCR leadership with our findings about off-the-charts use of force at New Folsom, they first denied there was anything unusual about the numbers and then refused to engage with our questions about it,” Lewis said. Fans of investigative journalism podcasts like “In the Dark” and “Stolen” will be moved by the rarely heard voices, compelling human story and the larger accountability questions at the heart of this seven-episode series. It is one of the best true-crime podcasts in the audio verse.

The divine realms of istaresta 3/? - (Death & Co. Incorporated)
Death is not one many dwell, though it is best not to speak ill of it, though reasons may vary. Ask any resident of Istaresta and their answers are if one were to be subjected to retail and minimum wage as an afterlife.
The Court of Death, or rather their legal name Death & Co. Inc. is a group of gods that specify in death, they run the flow of souls to and from the afterlife, with rumors of their realm being that of an urban not too dissimilar to earth, with a massive skyscraper at the center of it all, as it overlooks the domain.
Not many know how they came to be, though through their scriptures (more specifically their employee handbook) the gods became enticed by the mortal's offerings of silver, gold, and gems. So as to capitalize on their expertise and to gain the most profit, they journeyed to the mortal realm and disguised their churches as businesses of undertaking and embalmment, their worshipers as employees, be it to manage the companies in the mortal realms or harvest souls, and to entrapped any would-be soul to arrive to them as their own if they were to give an offering to their "shrines".
As of late, their grip on the flow of souls has increased, and have experienced fierce competition from all-mother Terra's followers and oddly enough the goddess of space, Once she found out their so-called "reincarnation toll", and their influence would only increase as the world fuses, their "shrines" now veiled as life insurance companies.
"Time makes money and money makes the world spin", or so the saying goes, but to the gods and residents of D.C.I. it would be more accurate to say "Money makes faith, and Faith in money can make the world spin".

Bitcoin Price Prediction as BTC Bounces Off $25,000 Support – Here are Key Levels to Watch
Bitcoin Price Prediction as BTC Bounces Off $25,000 Support – Here are Key Levels to Watch
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the dynamic realm of cryptocurrency, Bitcoin (BTC) continues to capture attention as it showcases a rise of over 0.50%, reaching $26,133 on Sunday. Notably, the support at $26,000 appears to have effectively prevented further losses for the cryptocurrency.
Furthermore, the prominent entity MicroStrategy is contending with substantial unrealized losses amounting to $600 million due to the recent slumping of the Bitcoin price.
MicroStrategy Sees Significant Losses as Bitcoin’s Value Drops
MicroStrategy Inc, the main company holding Bitcoin, suffered a significant setback with over $600 million in unrealized losses due to the recent price drop to around $25,000.
The software company invested $4.5 billion to acquire over 150,000 Bitcoins, resulting in an average cost of around $29,970 per Bitcoin.
This price drop of 11% in three days from the August 16 peak of over $29,000 marks MicroStrategy’s first bout of red in Bitcoin holdings since June.
Despite these losses, the company, led by its ardent proponent of Bitcoin, Michael Saylor, remains steadfast in its conviction.
Saylor, who champions Bitcoin as “digital gold,” guides the firm’s acquisition strategy and reiterates the decision to retain their holdings.
MicroStrategy’s stock (MSTR) reflects a year-to-date gain of 132%, although it has faced a 14.49% dip in the past five days, according to Tradingview data.
Concurrently, the broader market trend shows a decline in Bitcoin holders’ profit by over 10%, accompanied by a drop in Bitcoin’s value, reducing the percentage of profitable supply from 73% to 60% in a week, as per Glassnode’s data.
MicroStrategy Inc’s sizable unrealized losses from the Bitcoin price decline could introduce a note of caution among investors, possibly amplifying market volatility and impacting Bitcoin’s valuation dynamics in the near term.

US Dollar Index – Source: Tradingview
The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the value of the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, was down by 0.13% at the end of the week.
This bearish USD may have contributed to the improved movement of BTC/USD on the weekend.
Bitcoin Price Prediction
In recent times, Bitcoin’s technical landscape has been marked by significant activity following its drop below the $29,000 level on August 6th. Presently trading around $25,800, the cryptocurrency has experienced substantial decline.
Analyzing the four-hour timeframe, Bitcoin has shown patterns of “Three Black Crows” candlesticks, indicating a strong bearish sentiment in the market.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) and the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) oscillators have entered the oversold region, highlighting the prevailing bearish dominance.
Tumblr media
Bitcoin Price Chart – Source: Tradingview
The 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) around $27,300 has been influential, with recent candle closures confirming sustained bearish momentum.
The immediate resistance is at $26,200, but a bearish engulfing candlestick and two-day candle pattern below this level suggest ongoing bearish pressure. If this trend continues, Bitcoin may decline to $25,600, possibly even reaching $25,200.
However, surpassing the $26,200 level could lead to targeting the resistance at $26,800, and further gains might push BTC’s price toward $27,300 and eventually $27,600.
Conversely, a fall below $25,200 could indicate the potential for deeper losses, possibly reaching as low as $24,800.
