Reposter Strikes Again

So DCA Artists reacently went through this with a Pinterest acount but this one. . . tad bit bigger. This acount is one Instergram and it's not a question of who did they repost from but rather who did they not repost from. All of them have credist but they're more hidden, you have to look form them.

You know, i came onto tumblr really excited to share this dumb doodle comic i did, now i just feel gross. Because this was reposted on an app i do not have an account for and I cannot contact them via there, I’m posting this here, so sorry to y’alls who just trying to have a good time, some people just have trouble being half-decent ig

I was not contacted by this person or asked in any way shape or form to use my art on their account. They do not credit or mention me (not that that would make this any better) and I do NOT want my stuff on tiktok. 

To this person, this is your one and only warning: 

Take. My. Art. Down. Now. 

You have reposted my art, my mutuals art, my friends art and even my siblings art. What you are doing is harmful to me and to my friends. This is disgusting and disheartening ESPECIALLY seeing my art used in such a way that makes me EXTREMELY uncomfortable and I am sick and tired of seeing this. 

Think I’m being harsh? my art has been stolen and reposted and used without my permissions dozens of times and I am getting sick and tired of it. I want to be patient and kind but that’s kind of difficult when i see others not only harming me but also my friends livelihoods and incomes by stealing their art like this. And it is disgusting to see you use a minor’s art the way you did. To you it’s nothing more than a few minutes of posting and a couple of likes. To the artist you take it form it means the difference between a meal and going to bed hungry.

To anyone else who has reposted art in the past or are considering doing so now, DO NOT. It is harmful and cruel and while you’re laughing about the edits you use my art in, I, the creator, and sitting here sick to my stomach and considering never posting again because of your behaviour. I’ve got to wonder if you care about the people you consume content for at all? because from where I’m sitting you look selfish, inconsiderate and cruel. 

If you want to support an artist, REBLOG THEIR STUFF. SHARE LINKS. TELL PEOPLE ABOUT THIS COOL COMIC AND LINK THEM BACK TO THE SOURCE. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES REPOST WITHOUT AN ARTISTS PERMISSION OR KNOWLEDGE. Ask if you’re wondering if you can use art in a tribute or edit. Credit them if they say yes. If they say no, be respectful of the creator you like and find something else to use or better yet, make your own. 

to all my good followers, I love you guys, and thanks for having my back. I really appreciate your support and kindness as I create and deal with this kind of stuff. 

I’m not sure what i’m going to do about this aside from this post, and i really don’t want to make an account for this, hopefully if the reposter has any decency they’ll take down all the stolen art and stop doing this and i won't have to. 

For the time being, I’m not feeling real great, aside from being angry about this, I feel sick, so I won’t be sharing that comic I was going to post. I’m really sorry anyone who wanted to see my stuff is suffering from the actions of this person. Maybe I’ll feel better in a couple weeks or so, but for the time being I’m gonna continue being mostly offline.

Edit (July 3 2022): as of today the reposter has taken my art down and a lot of the other reposted work down and posted an apology to me and one other artist they reposted from (they reposted the work of at least six other artists) due to some other issues that I will not be specifying I have blocked them. Again, please don't harass this person if you recognize them. Or any reposters or people who demonstrate bad behavior. Letting people know reposting is harmful is one thing, but attacking them and rentelessly chasing them off their socials is another. Thanks guys hope you're all having a stellar day o7

i don't normally make call out posts for reposters, but since they immediately blocked me after i politely asked them to take my gifs down, i thought others would want to know. if you just so happen to make the summer i turned pretty gifs, you might want to block @prettyghost666 (they changed their url to in-my-lover-era)

either they're screen recording the gifs or doing something to the gifs to make them look horrible in quality but i can definitely tell they're stolen. luckily they haven't gotten any notes on them but you can block them anyway if you want.

Check dimension

🧊 GET READY

Set two windows side by side. Left: the original post Right: Tumblr dashboard

Locate the post which contains the gif we want to use. Make sure we are looking at the original post by the gif maker, not a reblog, or… a repost, so we won't accidentally credit the wrong person.

Click “Photo” to create a new post.

The “Legacy Editor” is switched off so that we are in the “Beta Post Editor”. EDIT: Tumblr has removed the Legacy Editor. We can skip this step from now on. -June, 2023

Click on the blank space to bring up the tools.

Click “GIF” to open the “🔍 Find a GIF” window.

🧊 INSERT GIF

Click the ●●● meatballs menu and select “Copy link”.

Right-click on “Find a GIF” and select “Paste”.

Only the first gif from the gifset shows up. It's alright, just select the gif to add it into the post.

🧊 SWAP GIF

Right-click on the gif we want and select “Copy Image Address”.

Click the ⚙️ cog menu and change the Text Editor from “Rich text” to “HTML”.

3. Highlight the gif address.

*Ignore the second part of the codes. They will adjust themselves accordingly.

4. Right-click on the highlighted texts and select “Paste”.

Right-click on the gif and select “Search for Image”.

2. We can see the gif is 540 x 270. 3. Revise the width & height in the codes. 4. Click on “Preview”.

Now we click on the attribution to see if it opens up the original post in a new tab.

Warning to New Followers

I’ve been dealing with a reposter who is trying to invade my space and follow me through alts. They know I don’t want them interacting with me. If you have a blank blog, it’ll be an auto-block, just as a precaution against this user. I usually only do this with accounts that I know are bots, but I want to be safe and not have reposters on my blog.

I’m not sharing their name for obvious reasons, but if you’re a content creator, be sure to check accounts that are interacting with you / following you to ensure they aren’t reposters. I wish I’d done it sooner.

my best options are "pretending to be someone" and "other"

I'm not familiar with tiktok's guidelines, but I did try to rwport them under the "other" category- only for the reports to be considered "invalid". But how was I supposed to know? They [tiktok] didn't offer a text box in he first place for me to make my report!

A couple of days ago I found out an account(@/covermeindinsbeskar) had been reposting several gifs of mine(specifically ones from The Mandalorian) on their blog with no credit or mention of the gifs not being theirs at all. I've messaged them about this and they haven't responded. I've blocked and reported them today and I suggest other creators do as well. Unfortunately I don't know if their blog is a sideblog where they could still see my posts if they searched for them, but anything is better than nothing I guess.

Edit: They have blocked me, so they’ve definitely seen the messages and refuse to delete the posts with the reposted gifs and they WILL keep doing it

@ness-aes, please don't crop to remove my logo when you use my work for your edits. It's frustrating as it is.

Reposting is bad! You are welcome to reblog, but you don't. You never did. You choose to take and use as your own. Removing the creator's logo is even worse.

I know that many do the same as you, which I don't understand. When there are so many posts about how to use Tumblr. So many tutorials if you like to try to make your own content. And If you're not sure, you can always ask. But please. Stop using others' work the way you do. It's demeaning and discouraging for any content creator.

maybe instead of stealing gifs from me and other gifmakers, you could ask us how we do the things you want to learn to do. or, if you'd use your google skills for something other than findings gifs and pictures to steal, you could google how to do these things.

ask gifmakers questions about how we do things. go to gifmaking blogs and see if they have a tutorials or resources tag to skim through. literally anything, ANYTHING, other than stealing gifs.
