Surpriseee I finally fully resurrected myself!!

You probably thought the new year's rant would be published ten months later again? Not today ha ha! How about only two months later this time?? (that's some progress for sure)

Well, since you already know in advance what I think of 2022 from the previous big post (the one with 2021 art summary), I guess I don't have to write all of this here from scratch... In short, 2022 was a huge disaster in terms of everything *ahem*

tbh this decade feels like a very long crappy year, but I still have hope for 2023 because, as I told myself literally a year ago, “never EVER lose your hope and especially forget your own advice”

But since the previous three years were so crazy, why not just take a moment, leave all of my complains in the previous summary and try to focus on what was actually good in 2022? Yeah sounds challenging but I must admit that first time in ages I felt truly comfortable with my art wich made me so happy 😭⚜️

I know this is probably one of my most unproductive years ever, BUT there were still all these little cursed yet somehow heartwarming stories hidden behind the drawings of this summary, and I can't wait to share a couple of them with you a little later ✨

Okay not gonna lie, I totally f up all of my goals for 2022, but trust me, this year I will be 100% able to bring an actual renaissance here so stay tuned, a whole new era is coming 👍

As you can see, my new art summary has some of my drawings in it that you haven't seen yet! I don't remember the exact reason for not putting out these on my socials (except for october, because they are just a bunch of outtakes from my stillborn inktober 2022 yeah), but now I'm going to post all of them here as I promised earlier!

In conclusion I'll say that all this time during the previous year, I seemed to be preparing for something in my head, like... I mean from my very personal point of view it was similar to some kind of rehearsal or the calm before the storm (something tells me I've said this before)? So, anyone wANT SUM SToRM ALREADY HUH? 🔥🔥🔥

Horses. I really like that other movie that Hobie's voice actor was in.

IDK why I ended up putting so much effort into the rendering this was just supposed to be a shitpost.

Hobie's pose is heavily referenced from a shot from the movie Nope (2022). The background texture is also from the same frame.

Miguel is cast as the stressed-out, half-Latino, tech guy with an angel name who watches camera feeds all day and bitches about his life to people he just met.

if we were to look at it through a racial lens, I do find it very interesting that Jupe’s wife is white. that the audience at Star Lasso are majorly white. that he’s basically robbing the Haywoods, a black family, of their horses to feed them to an alien creature for white people’s entertainment. that he was the token asian adoptee in sitcom as a child. the model minority. fitting himself back into a system that used and failed him as a child, so he can find some semblance of respect and power as an adult man, only to still be swallowed up whole.

Nunavut!

Casting 1,400 votes in the final round, the people have spoken: the greatest license plate in North America is Nunavut's! Though Maine was a beloved plate, its chickadee and pines couldn't hold up against Nunavut's polar bear and aurora. Nunavut also boasts the only license plate in the contest to feature text written in an indigenous North American language.

Thank you to everyone who voted, commented, and shared the polls around. When I started my own version of this nearly two years ago, I worried no one would be interested, so it's gratifying to see other people put thought into the aesthetics of ordinary objects we mostly ignore in our day-to-day lives. Hopefully the future brings even better designs to our plates!

You ever see a design so cool, hiding innocuously in something you love so much, that you take up a new hobby about it? Process pics under the cut!

This was a labor of love, from recreating the above page as a regularized vector diagram, to isolating out, fiddling with, and sizing all the shapes for both the Cricut and the embroidery machine:

creating a truckton of stencils and marking guides:

and TRIANGLES. so many triangles

I lost count of all the bits and bobs (btw Belos part of your sigil looks like a chicken wing)

hovering like a helicopter over the machine to get each piece laid out just right

and then picking out a backing fabric as offensive to crusty old pilgrim men as possible.

To whatever artist, designer, or animator went off on this single page that's in a single episode for seconds, and isn't even the side we're paying attention to: I see you. And thanks. <3

Interest check: Urusei Yatsura artists, would you be willing to do a 'Draw this in your style challenge'?

Ok, so I've been wanting to give a fandom related drawing challenge like this for a while now, but I knew the UY fandom isn't particularly a big one (on tumblr especially). But we still have very talented and great artists in the fandom and since the remake is currently airing I felt like it would be a good opportunity to do a challenge like this. But first I want to know how many are interested. The below poll is to check whether a decent number would be willing to do the DTIYS challenge so when I post it, it would be won't be for nothing.

Few things to note:

Anyone can do it no matter what your skill level is or whatever the quality of your supplies are.. If you want to do it, go for it!

The image for redrawing would be one of Rumiko Takahashi's official arts. I have one in mind and I made sure it's a simple one as well. I won't say which one it is yet but I'll give a few hints so you could have an idea of how it is. It has both Ataru and Lum, Both of their whole bodies are visible (they are both posing in a classic fashion while sitting down).

Whether I'll make the actual post following this depends on the results of the poll. It doesn't need a majority vote, it just needs a decent number of them.

There is no due date for the challenge, you can do it anytime you want.

The poll is open for a week, the decision will be made according to the results when the poll is closed.
