Review 79-03: Casino (Atari 2600)

Confession time: I had no idea what stud poker and poker solitaire were before trying this game. Forgive me if I get stuff wrong in this review, as i'm still extremely new to the concept.

This one obviously manages to completely obsolote Blackjack from 1977, but how does it fare on it's own? Graphics (2/5)

It's an improvement over the original, but that's not saying too much. It comes down to having more gradients of green to represent the table you're playing it on, and tiny pixelated shapes to indicate the card patterns.

I think we could have reasonably expected a bit more from this one visually. I feel like there's plenty of space that goes unused and could have been filled by taller cards so you could read their patterns more easily. Didn't need much more to be passable.

Sound (2/5)

It's the same goddamn thing as Blackjack. Not even the Poker variations change anything. Nothing changed. Boring.

Gameplay (3.5/5)

Blackjack is almost the exact same as it always was, except it adds insurance and splitting, as well as going for higher money prices than before. It's still okie dokie overall, can't say no to a quick sesh of that game, even if the layout is slightly more confusing to make it equal to stud poker.

Which leads me to say, I don't really like stud poker. It didn't grab me. Gasp. I'm sure this is a perfectly reasonable take on it, but I found myself ready to move on shortly after beginning. Never a good sign.

Poker Solitaire though?? Hoh. That's a goodie. Something about it makes my brain itch in the good way. Probably because you really have to think while it is also sorta luck based. Solid inclusion, would almost say it beats out some full retail games despite just being a single mode.

So in the end, I would say there's one strongly enjoyable game in there, a pretty good one that makes another cart redundant even with the way it's tweaked some things, aaaand one game that is not really great for me but could be cool for you. That deserves praise in my opinion, there's very few who achieved this consistent level of quality.

Longevity (3.5/5)

It's gambling, so if you're sensitive to that sort of thing, this could keep you occupied for hours on end. I know I was with Poker Solitaire. That isn't exactly helped by the Logbook encouraging you to go for a very high score with that mode. The 'one more go' pull is very strong with that one.

The other two modes could very much have lasting appeal, depending on 1: how seriously you take gambling in video games, 2: how much you like Blackjack and Stud Poker, and 3: If you have someone to play it with for real world consequences. Cuz that's always an option too.

Overall

I was unsure about this cart untill I tried Poker Solitaire. I think that one alone elevated this game from very meh to pretty decent to me. The low score shown is mostly due to how lacklustre they have managed to make it look while playing, like c'mon, the Intellivision is right around the corner with a much stronger visual appeal.

im agender and butch but i feel like... because im black i dont have the same access to androgyny and masculinity that other people do. the image of butchness or androgyny i see is always light skinned and fine haired and im just not that. it makes me feel like im never going to be read the way i want to or taken seriously as a gnc person. makes me really uncomfortable to go out

I'm going to answer this and will tell you first up that I'm white. My wife/spouse mod horseshoe is Black and has very similar experiences and feelings. when I saw your ask I right away thought of her and showed her, asked if she wanted to answer. She told me she doesn't know how she can help you when she hasn't figured it out either.

So I will tell you that one, you are not alone. Two, I will answer you similar to how I support her. and three, she is consulting on this ask (as she does on many advice asks, in fact!)

I'm sorry you're going through this, and especially that it's affecting your comfort in going out and being around people.

One thing I have done to try to help is find other darkskin Black folks that are doing gender in similar ways to her, on the internet. Just finding images of people who are similar I hope helps. I'm not particular about what exactly their identities are, just going for style and vibes. Lemme grab some (sorry it's leaning on instagram just bc it's easier for me to search accounts i follow there haha but I swear there are cool black gendery people everywhere, i'm sure you know this)

you can check out my style tag for like every post I've reblogged/shared that has images of people in it. it’ll have all types of people, but maybe it’ll help. you can also scroll back through my butch tag but that will not include every masc person in it. also the stud tag, and you can consider the stemme identity + label but i don't really have much in that tag rn sorry! maybe try checking the tags for these on tumblr, tiktok, instagram, maybe youtube? maybe you'll find people that look like you, or how you want to look.

my point here is that there ARE people out there doing androgyny, doing gender fun stuff and are Black and darkskin. maybe the people i'm recommending here aren't your vibe or style and that's totally fine, there are a lot of ways to be! i hope these can serve as some sort of inspiration for you. a reminder that gender diversity and androgyny exists and is possible for black people, that there are thriving communities and you have all sorts of options out there for you. also, remember that there are many ways to be androgynous, to be agender. maybe you're more a dapper butch, maybe more a sporty stud, maybe a skate style street style guy, maybe more a crunchy granola hiking outdoorsy look, maybe workwear and denim are more your speed, maybe you're a cozy dude who likes sweats and casual clothes, maybe you like bright colors and patterns, maybe you're into alt and goth styles, maybe you feel more comfortable in vintage and retro stuff. i promise that there is a way for you to look hot and feel comfortable in yourself and people will see your fabulous Black gender noncomforming self.

If you're into podcasts I recommend genderreveal by tuck woodstock- you can skip around and just listen to the episodes that interest you. I'm listening in chronological order because I kinda like going through time and seeing the development of things but you absolutely do not have to. There's a lot of episodes out, they've been doing it for a couple years now! there are plenty of interviews with black people of all gender varieties talking about their experiences and lives

i think. what's hard is that you can’t control how other people see you. you've got to come to terms with this. so you're most likely always going to have people not getting you, not understanding your deal (whether that's gender or something else). there's no foolproof way to get out of it or avoid it, no way to be 100% sure people will always gender you right or treat you right. this is not to say that you will never have people who get you, you certainly will and i wish that for you! i absolutely recommend you surround yourself with people you are supported by and who see you. but i'm not gonna tell you like "fuck what people think, do whatever you want" because i know it's not that easy ! trust your judgement, and trust your gut. all you can do is try to balance finding what makes you feel comfortable and what feels right to you with what feels safe. when you are feeling comfortable, it will help you to become confident. when you are confident and self-assured in who you are, what other people think of you and how they see you will not affect you so much. also, you deserve to be seen and gendered the way you want to be! i'm sorry it feels like it's not possible for you. I believe that it is possible, and i wish it for you soon!!

maybe you want to consider hrt, maybe top surgery, maybe try doing drag or drag makeup. experimentation is a huge thing and i can't recommend it enough. try practicing and experiencing with different styles, gender presentation, clothes, mannerisms, hair makeup jewelry whatever. you can listen to your feelings and your body and reflect on how you like it, see if it feels right. i recommend seeking out the things that make you feel comfortable in your body, find what makes you feel like yourself, and the androgyny and butchness (or whatever presentation you seek) will follow naturally.

Blake Shelton And His Wife, Gwen Stefani To Drop Heartfelt Duet, 'Purple Irises,' Ahead Of Valentine’s Day - Country Now

Love is in full bloom for Blake Shelton and his wife, Gwen Stefani who just announced that they have a new love-filled duet coming this Friday, February 9.

Taking to social media on Monday (Feb. 5), the couple revealed that the romantic tune titled “Purple Irises” will be released just in time for Valentine’s Day. Their recent joint post included the cover photo which boasts a retro theme as Stefani and Shelton both sport all-denim looks while looking giddy in the brightly colored living room setting. The country star appears to be plucking his guitar while his other half admires him from the bright yellow striped couch. The background décor features hanging wall art of purple irises to match the name of the song. 

Stefani Shares A Teaser of The New Tune

Fans got to hear a sneak peek of the mid-tempo tune through a several clips posted to Stefani’s TikTok account. The pair are seen in the studio, and building out a string of effortless harmonies while celebrating how strong their love is for one another.

“If someone comes along and tries to love you like I love you/ Don’t know what I’d do/ Don’t want to lose you/ If someone comes along and tries to take you, tries to make you/ Don’t let them change your mind/ Wonder why you took a risk/ On a broken heart you cannot fix/ No I never knew a love like this/ Now we’re picking purple irises,” Stefani and Shelton sing on the chorus.

As for Shelton, he’s gearing up to embark on his highly anticipated Back To The Honky Tonk Tour. The 17-date trek launches on February 22 in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and will run through March 29 in Wichita, Kansas. The upcoming tour is the follow-up to his 2023 run of the same name.

This year, Shelton will be joined on the tour by Dustin Lynch and Emily Ann Roberts.

Shelton To Return To Oklahoma For Hometown Show

Following the final date of the tour, the Oklahoma native will return to his home state on Saturday, March 30 for a supersized concert to benefit the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum and its education programs.

Shelton will bring his live show to the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the star-studded All for the Hall concert. Joining the Grand Ole Opry member will be Country Music Hall of Fame member Ronnie Dunn, Tony and Emmy Award-winner Kristin Chenoweth, ACM and CMA nominee Wade Hayes and fan-favorite songwriters/performers The Swon Brothers. Additional artists will be added to the lineup in the coming weeks.   

All proceeds from the show will go to the nonprofit museum’s education initiatives, which directly served more than 230,000 people through in-person and virtual programs in 2023.

they have a very high tolerance of the cold, and what would normally feel like being stuck in a freezer from some ppl would prob just feel like a normal winter breeze to them. But because of that, he also gets hot easily, and normal warm weather would prob feel like a heat wave to him.

He often refers to Wallter as "Papa," since Wallter adopted him at age 8 after he was abandoned in the snow by his birthparents.

He once tasted an alcoholic drink belonging to his birthmother when he was 3 out of curiosity, but he thought it was icky and he hasn't drank anything alcoholic since then.

He's really good at snowball fights, and will almost always win.

He would probably try skateboarding with Kasper/infected, but end up losing balance and falling off the skateboard literally every 30 seconds.

First meeting with Wallter: Wallter came across Snow sitting in the snow by themselves, and they weren't wearing anything warm (just a t-shirt, shorts and some boots). Wallter gave Snow his scarf, but Snow returned it, claiming he wasn't cold. Wallter asked Snow "Where's your parents, little guy?" Snow responded with "I don't know, they kinda just left me here. I think I blended in with the snow." Wallter said to them "Oh dear.. how long have they been gone, little one?" Snow responds "I think about 4 or 5 days.." Wallter then picks Snow up, adopting him.
