Hello hello hello party people! let’s get right to it.

Today I’m looking for an 18+ writing partner (I myself am 21+) for a very specific Star Wars roleplay. The pairing will be Reylo; I’d like to play Rey, and am more than happy to take on side characters to give our verse more depth.

I can write literate to novella, however this roleplay will be a different sort of style… I’d like a storyline where we form their relationship primarily through text messages, as I really enjoy playing with the text message style. So much of our communication is text-based these days, when you think about it. We would do pivotal/important/necessary scenes in paragraph format, but I’d love for us to focus on having them text each other as all kinds of teenage drama goes on around them! I’m talking 80% texting style and 20% paragraph style. 💞

The plot (a high school AU) is as follows;

Rey Doe is a foster child who is consistently moved from home-to-home. None of them have been great, but she’s always been the type to push through hard times. Most recently she has been moved to [Insert Name of Some Suburbia Here], coincidentally right across the street from one Ben Solo and his parents. Once Rey begins school, she quickly becomes well-liked because she’s friendly and approachable, so she falls in with the semi-popular kids at school such as Finn, Poe, Rose, Kydel, etc… Meanwhile, Ben doesn’t have the best reputation. He’s known to be a loner who’s in with the wrong crowd, known to be angry, gets into fights, skips, smokes, drag races, has lots and lots of (not necessarily always completely true) rumours about his “dark” and “sordid” reputation going around. Rey isn’t convinced, and somehow she ends up with his phone number (we can decide how together). Overtime they begin to slowly form a friendship that’s kept mostly via text, as in their irl lives they don’t actually interact very much in the beginning. They are from different cliques, and not the types people would think to become friends.

As you can probably tell, I love to world and story-build, and i love character development. I appreciate a partner who is also driven by these things, and will be just as excited about contributing to our plot as I definitely will be! I love love love themes of angst/hurt/comfort. Let’s put these hormonal teenagers through hell! 😈

Just heard about a white debut author Cait Corrain who made sock puppet accounts to review bomb debut authors of colour most of them published through indie houses on Goodreads while giving her own book 5 stars, liking each others comments

This white woman is with a big publisher, her book has 2 amazing covers and was getting positive reviews already but no, she had to put down other authors she saw as her competition. As if people don't buy more than one book. Oh and some of the authors she review bombed are at the same imprint, have the same agent as her.

She tried to say her friend on a reylo fandom discord or something was actually behind it and provided screencaps but it looks fake with how the dates are looking.

This woman is in her 30s.

What fandom do you think is the most comfortable and friendly from those you were in? What is the weirdest and most toxic one?

Based on my experience, which I know may differ from others, the X-men fandom has been the friendliest, at least in the parts I was (Charles/Erik). I am sure there's drama there, too, but I was fortunate not to encounter it.

The most toxic one is the House of the Dragon one. And this is coming from someone that's been in Star Wars fandom and all the Reylo wars, but HOTD takes the cake. It's a wild, wild ride, and sort of a masochistic adventure whenever I look through the tags.

I know HP fandom can be very toxic, but, for the most part, I've surrounded myself with likeminded people and in my corner of Tumblr/discord, things are usually fine. (Though Marauders TikTok fandom is as scary as it is laughable. Sometimes it makes me sad, other times it almost draws the troll out of me and makes me poke the bear, but I mostly abstain).

I almost attempted to dip my toes in the LOTR fandom, but I must have dropped in at a terrible moment, and I quickly realised I want nothing to do with it.

Baldur's Gate fandom is generally pleasant, but...well, let's say I am carefully optimistic.

Generally, the smallest fandoms are the friendliest and with the least amount of drama- by small, I mean, minuscule.

That being said, I never go on Twitter (or whatever it's called now) and my stints on TikTok are VERY brief, where I only follow a small handful of people. I think these two have the most potential for ugliness, so eliminating or severely restricting my use of them, certain improved my experience in fandom.

Kaishin Reveal and What It Means For You

Okay I need everyone to keep their shit together because I think this is being blown out of proportion. What follows is a quick rant about what the hell is going in the DCMK fandom and what is going on in fandom in general cause I don’t know why I’m seeing so many people lose their shit over something that was most likely going to happen followed by a quick lesson by a ‘fandom elder’ on how to ignore canon and make a ship your own. 

Spoilers ahead and whatnot. 

April 11th the DCMK 27 movie came out and information was revealed about how Kaito Kuroba and Shinichi Kudou are now cousins. Twitter lost its mind, Tumblr lost its mind, Discord servers are being created and now everyone is wondering what the hell should they do. 

I’m going to be honest, if you are a creator for KaiShin, please don’t delete your work. 

Either archive it or orphan it but please don’t delete it.

You put time and effort into this, into something you love, and just because the mangaka is so SO set in his ways of every single ship being friends to lovers does not mean you have to follow the same format. This doesn’t make you an incest shipper or whatever, it doesn’t make you a person who you don’t want to be, it’s just something that you had no idea of knowing was going to happen and I hope that you can look back at it fondly. 

Anyways, for those enjoying Kaishin on the sidelines all I’m going to say is Pick a Lane. 

Ignore Canon 

If you are an old time shipper then this may not be new for you. I mean Gosho literally had another ship that turned out to be cousins like at this point it’s ‘who is my cousin’ being played in the entire Detective Conan manga. You either already guessed it, are an active incest shipper (hi, hello, tis a me) or you are used to your favourites dying. This situation is no fucking different. 

Wolfwood is dead, in my head he is alive and well and treating his Plant husband right. 

Sora is missing, not in my head where he is kissing Roxas and Riku and Kairi and whoever else wants to get at the sunshine of the KH universe. 

Ben is dead, NOT IN MY REYLO FANFICTION. 

If you are a person who actively kept up with the manga or actively kept up with the show it is possible to ignore canon because they do not suddenly go super deep into being cousins and knowing about each other. They both don’t know if they are cousins or else the jig would be up immediately and the manga would be finished. You CAN ignore canon and if Kaishin is a ship that brings you joy and just serotonin production I implore you guys to choose this lane if you still want to enjoy Kaishin. 

It’s by far the healthiest option and teaches you how to curate your own fandom experience. 

Alternate Universes and You 

I was in the Hannibal fandom for a while and I clearly remember the ‘Hannibal is not a Cannibal’ tag on AO3. I thought it was hilarious but I would never dare to make fun of it because that is a prime example of CURATING YOUR FANDOM EXPERIENCE. 

Here are some examples on how you can start tagging: 

Not Cousins AU

Kaito and Shinichi aren’t family 

No Family Relation AU 

Pre Kaishin reveal 

Or just make a quick blurb of how you mean this drawing/fic to be perceived. Again, this is your experience and you get to make the space you want to make. It’s up to you to make/interact with the content that makes you most comfortable. Again, if you want to delve into AU’s then that is up to you and I think it’s a pretty good lane for those who just feel weird about the whole reveal. 

Stepping Away

Your moral values are your own, people, and I am in no position or even want to judge them. If you feel uncomfortable about this now, see your love for Kaishin diminishing because of the reveal or just don’t see yourself shipping Kaishin in the future then you are more than capable of measuring your response and stepping away from the ship entirely for your own health. 

Is it going to be sad? Yes, but they are fictional and I recommend having an idea of what you have in your life outside of fandom that makes you happy that you can focus on as you go through this. College, work, whatever hobbies you may have taken up–hell put all your eggs into another ship that you know also brings you joy! 

Do not let this dictate your day or your month or your year. This is just fandom, you don’t have to make a big statement unless asked about it, you do not have to justify your decision to anybody, curate.your.fandom.experience. 

I’m going to end this with a repeat of what I just said. 

This is all fictional. We are playing in a fictional sandbox where we can all make whatever we want in any capacity and as long as it is tagged correctly then nobody’s lines have to be crossed. If you just started enjoying Kaishin, find out how you still want to enjoy it or step away. If you have shipped Kaishin for a while, do the same fucking thing! The east side of the fandom is having a field day with the movie, why can’t the west have some fun too?! 

I’m going to ship Kaishin (however all my reblogs will be moved to my other blog for incest-y stuff and just other content people may not vibe with in general) and hell I might just join the Kaishin Big Bang for the hell of it because I have been shipping this ship since I was 15 years old and I’m about to be 30 so….I’m staying fucking seated cause you aren’t getting me out of this chair, Aoyama, you aren’t getting me to ship Aoko with anyone other an Akako so suck on that.

I find it really fascinating how cult like fandom spaces are. Ones I've been in such as kylux, or ones I've observed from the outside like Sherlock, reylo, Dr who, our flag means death, and so on.

Echo chambers hyping each other up, feeling like only they truly understand a show/film/whatever, blindly copying what someone with the most followers says. Having a complete disconnect from reality and how people actually behave towards one another in society. Throwing around accusations, often false, but heinous in nature to try and manipulate others into doing what they want, or ostracising people for not following the status quo of the fandom.

And then a complete lack of self awareness that they are in this echo chamber, that they might try say that they're open minded and all that but they truly aren't when someone with a different view on the show comes along. Very much you can have your thoughts but don't dare share them and upset the nature of the echo chamber.

I've seen it with my own eyes on a private kylux discord where a perceived slight, truly only perceived as the person being spoken about did fuck all honestly, but how the group just went in circles again and again adding more shit onto this persons supposed fandom crimes which there just wasn't any evidence for. But enough people said it that it was true, and pointing out otherwise was not a good idea.

And also the complete lack of self awareness a fandom echo chamber with a history of doxxing and harassment when they look down and claim to be better than a different fandom, also with a history of doxxing and harassment.

We know fandoms are toxic as fuck but when people are in a fandom, being like Thai, they just lose all sense of credibility and go full on into the cult like mentality. It's just like the right wing conspiracy theorists types of people overthinking things and hyping one another on the most bullshit thoughts until everything thinks they're true - as of course what they're saying is true, everyone else around them is saying it. The one saying otherwise is just a hater.
