welcome to ghost mod's thought experiment, the m/f ship bracket bonus round where every single m/f ship from the original round is pit against reylo of the 97/3 #shreksweep infamy.
why, you ask? mostly cuz of this.
they're going from lowest to highest per the original rankings, starting off with our newcomers adam/eve. 9 polls per day will roll out on queue throughout the est evening from may 12th-18th! after polls are closed one week later, i will post the final rankings of who swept the hardest (or failed to sweep...)

Remember in TLJ when Luke is facing Kylo/Ben an it cuts to Rey’s reunion with Finn.
What if right here he felt Rey hugging Finn and it hurt him even more??? Don’t get me wrong, Rey and Finn’s relationship is purely platonic and I’m sure Kylo/Ben is aware of the fact, but what if he felt like the girl he loved more than anything or anyone, his Dyad, left him for that traitor and their little Resistance? What if that’s his though process right now, and it only makes matters worse?

If you look in my head you’d see the phrase ‘Star Wars Sequel but Rey and Ben are siblings’ surrounded by hearts.
Ben Organa-Solo turns into Kylo Ren, and just like years later, when he hesitates to kill his father, he hesitates to kill his sister; this time, however, he hasn’t been intrenched in the darkside for a decade. He doesn’t kill his sister, and instead takes her, and hides her.
Breha Organa-Solo is seven years old when her 19 hear old brother steals their father’s ship, and drops her off on the planet Jakku. “I’ll come back for you.” He says. “But for now, forget.”
Kylo Ren has a plan. He’ll be powerful, more powerful than his Master, and one day he’ll kill him, and Breha will be his apprentice. Brother and Sister, ruling.
In the meantime, Breha will be hidden, safe, and forgotten.
He leaves the Falcon, and his sister, and takes a small ship. He never returns.
Breha Organa-Solo forgets the name and face of her mother, her father, her uncles, and her brother. She forgets her own name. When asked, she answered, “Br-breh?” Hesitance and fear in her voice. They call her Rey.
Leia and Han Organa-Solo think their son killed their daughter. Ben is a wound they won’t talk about, and Breha is a wound they can’t.
Rey spends 12 years on Jakku. When she sees her father for the first time in over a decade, she doesn’t recognize him, even if she feels like she knows him.
Han looks at her, and sees his daughter. He ignores that feeling. Every strong willed brunette girl his daughter’s age wears the face of her. He ignores the feeling. His daughter is dead.
Unfortunately, the rest stays the same.
Kylo Ren takes Rey. He probes her mind for true map, and instead finds his sister, right before she turns the rest on him.
Han, Chewbacca and Finn go to save her. Han cups his son’s face as he’s killed.
Leia Organa didn’t know her brother when she met him, though she always felt a connection. Leia Organa-Solo didn’t know her daughter when she saw her, although hugging her felt like the most natural thing in the world.
Maybe…. Leia thought, before shutting the thought down. Her daughter is dead. She hasn’t felt her Force Signature since the night Ben turned. Rey’s Force Signature is strong, but muddled. Like looking at sunlight through a tinted window.
None of them know her connection when she leaves to find Luke. Not yet, at least.

I think it's also quite telling that Rey and Kylo's whole 'thing' in TFA is like, unique to the ST too. This isn't just a TLJ thing, the Reylo plotline largely resists OT retreading for the better. The visions of each other/dialogue about each other ("What girl?"/Kylo in the rain), the meeting of Death with the Maiden in the forest, bridal carry, the interrogation scene (Rey's awakening to the Force...), then the fight in the snow is all new. It's really good for that reason, but I also think that people wanting TFA to be the original experience of the original trilogy obviously didn't respond to it for a reason, as well as other cultural moments happening at the time (Does Anybody Else Feel Like Reylos Are Responsible For Domestic Violence featuring a side of victim blaming and narrative cynicism).
Take away the magnetism of the dynamic, and really what you're left with is an original idea persisting against a stale do-over, which in itself is realising some of the better, actual thematic thrust of the thing it's responding to, but not in exactly the same way. People who were so insistent Rey and Kylo were related because it had to be the same thing ignored the inconvenient elephant in the room. The idea that the ST could go beyond the OT if it wanted to justify itself existing at all was foreign.
It's weird though, most of the online fanatic audience can say that trying to copy the OT was a mistake, and TROS' course correction was a complete embarrassment. I'm very interested as to how it will be received in the long run. I've seen some posts that are like 'I admit it, TLJ was actually kind of good' and I wonder if that will keep happening.

i know it's been said a gazillion times and said more eloquently than me but god the amount of missed potential in the sequel trilogy. thinking about how anakin became a villain because he felt he had no other choice (and the tragedy being that he always had a choice, and his character arc concluding with him deciding to stand up for what's right by saving luke), meanwhile kylo grew up surrounded by a loving family full of positive role models and chose evil knowingly because he craved power for power's sake. kylo idolizing the tragic figure of darth vader all the while burning the world around him. there was so much you could do with that but instead they had to sacrifice rey's character to make the movies about her fixing the genocidal white boy who never wanted to be saved

'why' best conveys my bafflement with the thematic flops situation#anyway back to kylo. u could have him tentatively going lightside-ish at the end of the final movie bc star wars redemption themes and all#but you'd have to have him very very very clearly giving up power (or accepting a forced loss of it) for it to work! like themes 101 people#like 'oh i did a bad thing by killing my dad :(' cool but are we gonna address the root cause of why you did that? So the main point of rise of skywalker is resolve.
The divided lighsaber is repaired, Rey's committed to being a jedi and wears white, Kylo is committed to the dark side and so wears a reforged helmet, Finn is now focused on the bigger picture and a committed rebel, Poe has committed firmly to leading.
