I don’t like telling people about projects before I make good headway on them but hopefully maybe somebody will see this and get excited and that will help inspire me to work on it more?
I’m working on a Miraculous roller derby au! I’ve got most characters sorted into teams and have positions settled on a few people but still have much to figure out. I’m commissioning a few artists for pieces and I’m really excited to be able to share what they create!! 🎉
This is my reference sketch for Marinette (who I have decided is a Jammer because she’s small but fast) and her unpredictability is her strength on the track. She’s super clumsy on every surface until she puts on her skates and suddenly “Ladybug” is all coordination and competence 🐞🛼

Followed for the irreproachable Camilla Hect take and hi derby coach! I play derby in Nashville, tho I'm looking to move because it mega sucks to be trans here rn :/ Do you know of any especially trans friendly or unfriendly leagues?
Also so torn because I'm such a sucker for codependent as hell cam/pal and I'm horny for both of them so I'm biased in favor of smashing them together like Barbies 😂 but aroace cam is so good,,,,,,,
Okay, disclaimer: I've been retired for a few years, so my first-hand knowledge is stale; and since I'm not on Bookface or Birdsite anymore, I'm not super up to date on rumors either. Wall of text follows:
I'd advise you to find someplace where the political climate is better, and then worry about the league. Your leaguemates could be the biggest allies in the world, but if your state government is trying to make it illegal for you to exist, there really isn't much your team can do for you except help you pack the moving van.
This isn't to say blue-city-in-a-blue-state leagues are always the greatest; the catch is that those leagues will really like to think of themselves as inclusive. As long as you support their self-image, they'll love you! For reals!
But if you find yourself calling in and pointing out ways in which their behavior falls short of how they want to be seen… there will be some leaguemates who respond by Doing the Work to improve, and there will be others who want you to stop creating conflict and being divisive and aggressive and they're feeling very attacked right now, and all the ways in which they feel uncomfortable will be coded in ways that you don't conform to unexamined cis white femininity.
So the thing to figure out is which of those groups has more influence in a league, and that pretty much requires talking to trans people who are currently active members.

im going crazy thinking about my idea for a cod women roller derby au
i play roller derby and i literally just finished practice so its fresh in my brain rn
also theyre all on the same team because i want them to be besties ok
laswell is the captain of the glam grenades (yes i know the name is corny, derby team names usually are lmaoo), and her wife coaches the corresponding junior team. laswell’s derby name is watcher, and her number is 01. she usually plays as a blocker, but she’ll pivot sometimes.
farah is almost solely a jammer. her derby name is farah scare-‘em (which again, i know its corny but all derby names are 😭). she’s a speed DEMON, and she’s insane at jumps. if she’s jamming against you, you’re barely even gonna land a hit on her. she’s jumping around on her toe stops and squeezing around blockers like she’s dancing. alex goes to all of the team’s practices and bouts, and he’s practically drooling the whole time like “holy shit thats my badass girlfriend”
valeria is usually a pivot. her name is slammin’ scorpion (referencing that one line where alejandro calls her a scorpion 🤭), and when i say slammin, i mean it. shes one of those blockers that gets penalties constantly. she is VICIOUS. she send jammers flying when she hits them. she has a lot of pent up anger, ok? god forbid a woman has hobbies.
roze is a blocker for sure. she’s sturdy as hell and it takes a lot to take her down. her derby name is ragin’ roze and shes a bad bitchhhh!!! i like to think shes pretty tall, so sneaking around her is a no go with those long legs. she also seems like the type to manhandle her teammates a lot. like if the jammer is moving to the opposite side, shes yelling “out!” and just yanking the other blockers over.
callisto is a blocker too. she prefers to play as a point because she’s a control freak, and while she trusts her teammates, she prefers to be able to see the jammer. this is a really stupid joke but i think it would be funny if her derby name was lady liberty because she’s from france and moved to the US lmaoo
i feel like stiletto’s derby name would just be stiletto. its cool enough on its own lmao. she also gives blocker to me, and i feel like shes the type to get penalties a lot and then get insubordination penalties for giving the refs sass.
nova feels like a jack of all trades to me. i think her derby name would be nova, and i feel like she would be one of those players that just throws caution to the wind and charges in with no hesitation.
kleo is greek and i also imagine her to be pretty tall, so i think her derby name would be something like amazon lol. i feel like shed be a pretty aggressive blocker. she is NOT letting that jammer past, so much so that she sometimes gets stop block penalties.
uhh yeah thats all the brainrot i have lmao. i might draw them 😏😏

For the AU ask game: Xiyao skating au 👀
oh damn you have inadvertently touched on a scenario that i have some ~specialized knowledge~ about, but probably not in the way you were thinking lol. because i'm going to make this a men's/all-gender roller-derby AU, and i'll just start with the different positions/teams i envision for various characters:
meng yao is a jammer (aka principle point scorer) for lanling city, but he used to be a pivot when he skated with qinghe and qishan. since his nephew skates with the no-contact juniors' league, he spends a lot of his free time shepherding pre-teens to and from practice bouts and exchanging Lingering Eye Contact with their coach
lan xichen is the gusu team captain, as well as a blocker; he also coaches the no-contact juniors' league and serves on the board of directors for the general governance of the sport
nie mingjue used to be the qinghe team captain and jammer, but suffered an injury and had to quit skating competitively after a particularly aggressive bout against the qishan men's team. now he's the team coach, and also serves on the board, but grudgingly has to recuse himself from any matters that involve meng yao
wen qing does not actually skate, but since she's a paramedic and her husband is the captain of the lotus pier team, she's the first responder who attends all bouts and provides first aid in the event of injuries on the track. she also has the dubious honour of being the medic who attended nmj when he was injured in the bout against qishan 😬
okay that's enough for now, this AU is quickly spiralling out of control in my head for both xiyao and chengqing reasons

Jamming it up in Roller Derby
Had I been in this rink before? If so, it was back in Junior high school in the late 1970s, when roller skating added music, lights, and fun to a teen’s life. If you were lucky, the rink dimmed the overhead lights so strobes and fluorescent lighting illuminated the ground where your quad skates slid across the wooden floor. But today was 2024 and this ole 59’er hadn’t tried roller skating since she was a teen, making this new sport of Roller Derby an interesting prospect. The thing that happens as you approach your sixth decade of life is your center of weight shifts as your weight increases. Sure, I run half marathons, but that’s easy when your feet hit the pavement and nothing is rolling beneath you. I think my last 8-mile run, which took over an hour, was easier than standing on roller skates for one hour. New experiences give you realistic points of view you wouldn’t gain otherwise.
So, there I was, along with one other 50-year-old woman celebrating her birthday by trying roller derby, and twenty 20- and 30-year-olds, prime for the adventure. The women there were fantastic – friendly, some apprehensive like me, some excellent at the sport already, and accepting of all others in the room. No matter your size, age, gender identification, or skill, every woman was welcome, just like rugby. The Central New York Roller Derby organization based in my hometown of Rome, NY was well organized and coached. Their leaders made sure we had the essential equipment on – helmet, elbow pads, mouth guards, wrist guards, knee pads, and quad skates. For $50, you get all the rented equipment plus eight weeks of lessons and activity making it a reasonably priced sport to try. They were patient and helpful with the newbies.
Like every sport, we began with warmups. I particularly liked doing pushups and sit-ups with roller skates on. It added some weight to the exercises. Then it was time to stand up and try gliding on the skates. I say this with the hesitation that’s intended. It takes a while to find your center of gravity and fearlessness to push off, glide, and stop without falling down. Okay, I did fall two times until I figured out to lean forward not back in my stance. Like anything in life, you have to adjust to new centers of balance. Then we got off our skates and learned about the key derby positions of jammers and blockers and did a few activities like getting into positions as blockers to stop the jammers and how to become a pivot blocker if you receive the jammer star/cover when it is handed to you. What I learned only from this small exercise is I need to watch a YouTube video on roller derby to piece it all together so I understand it better the next time I try it. I did this before trying rugby and it helped my comprehension level immediately. Don’t call it necessary due to my age, but rather because I learn best by seeing, and not hearing.
As our two-hour stint came to an end, we gathered for a group photo as buddies who experienced something new and fun for the first time. I vowed to go back next week to try it again since I felt it needed more time to say I tried the sport. I already have a new group of Syracuse roller derby sisters who want to carpool to Rome and a new roller derby name to try out – Pinky Habanero. Every roller derby chick has a nickname. I met Squash, BAM, Dead, Sunshine, Meli, and more. All I can tell you is if you want to feel young again (in some ways) and old (in other ways), try out roller derby at your local skating rink. Put on those four quads, helmet, and find your center of balance, smile, give yourself a badass name, and get into the rink. I promise you’ll smile, laugh at yourself, and even realize you can be humble, and somewhat graceful while trying something new.

Semi-retired roller derby player sliding in to hear more about the harlivy roller derby au
❤️
Helllooooo 🛼 VERY excited someone asked about this one! (And even someone that I don't have to explain the rules to!)
Basically, Harley and Ivy are on rival roller derby teams (who saw that coming, right?) but Ivy's a new player that Harley hasn't ever faced before. Harley's more aggressive style of jamming usually clears some space in the pack for her but it doesn't seem to intimidate this new pivot (Ivy).
Here's a little snippet:
“Fuck,” Harley hisses as she finds herself caught up on the pivot’s ass again.
It’s been at least forty seconds and she hasn’t even gotten out of the pack once yet.
“Harls!”
She looks up to see Banshee coming back for her, an arm extended.
They’ve done this move a lot, Banshee whipping Harley forward while sitting on the blocker she’s stuck behind, acting like a screen so that Harley can get free.
This’ll work. It always works.
Banshee’s hand wraps around Harley’s wrist, grinding the hard plastic of her wrist guard into her bones, and yanks while she spins, using the momentum to drag Harley forward and out of the pack. Except…
Except that fucking pivot has read the move and turned into their clasped hands, forcing them to let go or receive a penalty, and now she’s chest blocking Harley and goddamn it she has some nice tits. Her violently red hair is tied up in a braid that’s draped over her shoulder and tickling Harley’s cheek, and she wants to commit murder about it.
“Welcome to fucking Arkham,” Harley snaps as she pulls back a shoulder and drives it forward and up, trying to get unstuck from this bitch, but the pivot doesn’t even breathe hard.
“Are you the welcome wagon?”
The pivot’s voice is low and flat like she on a fucking walk in the woods and she’s never found anything even remotely interesting in her entire life.
Goodie comes swooping in from the left trying to sweep the pivot out of Harley’s way, but she just takes her stupid red hair and pushes herself backward eighteen inches, letting Goodie pass right on by, before she catches Harley on her chest again.
DAMN IT.
Her tits are really, really nice.

WIP Wednesday
my Valkyries Roller Derby AU has skated off with my attention. I made a playlist and everything.
Gwyn is the jammer, Emerie is the pivot. Nesta, of course, is the blocker and uses elbows.
They are the Val-Kill-Ries.
Tumblr media
Nesta Archeron was many things during the day. To her coworkers, she was the coldest copy editor and technical writer on the whole floor, putting the fear of gods into most of the male writers she had the misfortune of having to edit. To her sisters, she was their strict protector who didn’t quite know how to express her love towards them. To her friends, she had the driest sense of humor and the dirtiest taste in books. But at night, Nesta Archeron was the most terrifying blocker that the Velaris Roller Derby League had ever seen.
With all her might, Nesta hurled herself into the shoulders of the opposing jammer, throwing her off the track and into the rails. Through the gap she had created, Gwyn whizzed by the last of the pack scoring another point for the Val-Kill-Ries.
