'I've bought you a gift.'

The so-called gift is still packed away in the large tote bag the woman at the store had packed it in. She's rummaging around a little; she couldn't go shopping without buying herself something too, naturally.

'You always seem to be wearing the same thing no matter what and at first I wondered if you even had, like, any other outfits? Do you just wash the same one every day and wear it again like it's brand new? Anyway, a refreshed wardrobe always makes me feel a little better, so I thought you might like something, too.' And who doesn't like free stuff, anyway?

'But I also respect your style and thought, you know, maybe I should get you something a little bit familiar.' Finally she pulls a black overcoat from the bag, gives it a little shake so it unfurls properly. 'Do you know how hard it is to get this kinda stuff at the end of spring?'

Hana hands the coat to Kal and continues going through the bag; her task is much easier now that the offending coat is out of the way. 'But - and I wanna explain this - wearing black on black is kinda dull, so this is for you, too.' From the bag comes a light grey t-shirt. 'Not that you're gonna be forced to wear this shirt with it all the time, of course.'

The shirt also finds its way into Kal's arms. 'I kinda assumed you had pants and shoes already that you could wear with it - yes, black is fine - and I was a little more concerned about not getting those sizes right.'

She offers him a warm smile like that which might be offered a friend rather than a practitioner of the dark arts. 'I know typically a lot of guys aren't into the whole fashion thing, but maybe you'll find that you enjoy trying out new styles.'

A gift? Why? Almost immediately, Kal gets the feeling this is all a ploy to make fun of him.

Kal narrows his eyes, looking at the bag as if he expects it to be filled with expired dog food. His suspicion only deepens as she starts talking about outfits. Kal's fine. His clothes are fine. He has no desire to put on some ridiculous fucking --

It's not as bad as he expected. The sort of thing he wears, in fact, when the usual is absolutely not an option. He still doesn't see why he would ever use it instead, mind you.

Nonetheless, the coat is folded over one arm, and he holds the t-shirt out in front of him, brows drawn together sceptically. Scoffs. He's really not sure why she thinks she gets to dictate what is and is not fine for him to wear with it. "What's dull about it? I'd say all black makes a stronger impression, overall."

The shirt looks like it would fit, loosely. Kal being both tall and obnoxiously bony, getting anything that fits exactly might be a challenge, but it's obvious he's hardly a fan of tight clothing anyway.

…but maybe you'll find that you enjoy trying out new styles.

For a single, brief instant, Kalmar considers it. Then he remembers what he looks like.

"I won't," he says, flatly, and shoves the bundle back into her arms.

Ive said this before but swear the biggest skill to learn as an adult is how to resist high-pressure sales tactics. You do NOT have to answer questions with anything other than "Sorry I'm not interested." No matter how nice they are or no matter how many follow up questions they ask or even how agitated they get when you stand your ground. Just keep saying I'm not interested. Don't answer their questions. Don't give them an opening to try to push back on your reasons. Be a fucking brick wall of I'm not interested.
