Volume two finally came out and my copy was at the doorstep.Compared to the anime there seems to be a few differences in pacing and possibly exclusive content.

I have never ever seen a full sized giant robot that looked so absolutely head empty.  This is just a little guy, just a random little dude, hasn’t thought a think in his whole life, absolutely confused all the time.

This is of course BIG TONY from the anime Sakugan, a show I have not seen but the description of the setup on the box was quite interesting so I may indeed check it out at some point going forward.  But even if I don’t... BIG TONY, like, cmon, he’s BIG FRIGGIN TONY.  Even if I never considered watching the show I was gonna pick this guy up at some point, what an absolute little boi of a giant robot.  He even has alternate squinting eyes so he can look confusedly at the entire world in front of him.

I hafta admit this kit is finnicky and trying to pose it is kind of a chore as the legs are super awkward and the “ears” fall out constantly if you don’t have them light out version.  The right leg isn’t as tight on the waist joint as the left leg is, the arms keep changing which pivot point is moving... yah, kind of a hand grenade unfortunately.  I am never putting him back in tank mode even though I really like his tank mode, kind of makes me think of Blaster Master honestly.

But hey, he’s friggin adorable!  What an absolute guy.  When all my model kits come to life like in Toy Story when I’m not around I’m sure all he’s doing is poking at things with his drill hands, absolutely enamored by the nothing that ever happens when he does.  He doesn’t know who all the other bots are, but they’re very friendly.  Grandpa Gundam and Optimus are very nice to him.  He is a good boi, that is all.

Fun fact: Memempu is the only kid in this poll whose source material doesn't have a TV Tropes page. Given that obscurity, I should probably explain that Markers are explorers who use giant robots. Or something like that; I don't remember that sort of detail.

What I do remember is the relationship between Memempu and Gagumber. The two of them love each other, but they also can't stand each other; in part because Memempu thinks that somehow earning seven doctorates means she's ready to become a Marker and Gagumber knows how dangerous that would be, and in part because Gagumber has a bunch of flaws that annoy Memempu and make her reluctant to listen to Gagumber when he actually has a point. It's a fun dynamic, and not common with this kind of father/daughter narrative.

But this post isn't about Sakugan, it's about Memempu. Memempu is a mechanical prodigy (again, seven doctorates at age 9) with incredible spatial awareness and reasoning abilities; this fuels her confidence to "I can look for that tower in my dreams by myself!" levels. She's also incredibly curious, even for a kid, which is part of why her overconfidence is driving her into the uninhabited kaiju-filled caverns and not some engineering project safe within a colony. Ah, wait, did I not mention the giant monsters? Yeah, that's part of why Gagumnber doesn't want his daughter exploring alone. Or ideally at all, but he gives up on that battle before the end of episode 1.

Anyways, yeah. Memempu is clever, confident, curious, and just fun to be around. Especially when hanging around her dad.

it was ok + ep 12 was fun 👍 didn't piss me off 👍 reminded me of how i felt after finishing sakugan except here there wasn't krazy pacing issues

i never really posted arumi (pink hair) but she genuinely had the most stakes plot wise so either her or tajima (the divorced guy + bossman) should've been the protags fr. i mean tajima does get more screentime than okino (actual mc, green hair) after some point so...??

look at how moe tajima is though. he's 45 n he has the same va as roy alchstars

Note: Make sure you move forward just a tiny little bit after the initial JW JS air chain. The dash-version Dragon Install is there pruely for the looks; you can just do a DI, then dash forward and hit Justice from behind with W S chain. Note: First of all, I pull off the dash charge immediately after the motion of S ends. The DnS into DnP / dust attack are also done by executing the attack at the right timing (no charge canceling involved). I do use charge cancel to connect dash version Ride the Lightning from S; the command is S 41236+R1 46+S (facing right). And for the air chain after the dust attack, do not perform the chase jump; make sure you jump forward, do JS, jump forward agin, do another JS, then finish with Vapor Thrust.
