#OTD in 1904 – Birth of writer, Muiris Ó Suilleabhain, on the Great Blasket Island, Co Kerry. Best known for his book, ‘Twenty Years A-Growing’.
“I am a boy who was born and bred in the Great Blasket, a truly small Gaelic island which lies north-west of the coast of Kerry, where the storm of the sky and the wild sea beat without ceasing from end to end of the year and from generation to generation against the wrinkled rocks which stand above the waves that was in and out of the coves where the seals make their homes.” On the 28th of April…

LONGFORD TERRACE AND CLOSE BY
Longford Terrace, Monkstown is a set of 28 houses in two terraced blocks of Victorian buildings all of which face the sea and the railway track. There is a linear park between the houses and the railway and I think that it is known as Seapoint Park.
SALTHILL AND MONKSTOWN TRAIN STATION I got off the train at Salthill-Monkstown Station with the intention of walking to Dalkey but I ended up exploring the Glenageary area instead. We took a whirl
And I ask you friend, what's a fella to do, because her hair was purple and her eyes were brown .... ?
If we had tried to stroll the Salthill Promenade on Wednesday, we might have been blown right into Galway Bay. A wind-driven rain made it damn-near impossible to stroll anywhere, except maybe into a pub.
But Thursday dawned soft and fine, so we took a whirl.
The Salthill Promenade, known locally as "the Prom," is a two-mile walk along the bay. It goes from the Claddagh Quay to the Blackrock diving tower.
I learned about it from songster Steve Earle's "Galway Girl."
In June 2016, Irish singer Mundy, Sharon Shannon and half of Galway turned out for a rollicking street performance of the song just down the street from our hotel in the Galway City Centre.
You can watch the video by clicking on the YouTube line beneath the photo.
We fly home today from the Shannon ariport.

Galway
Galway past and present   I’ve got so much to say about Galway, both past and present.  It was the 90s when I spent a semester at Galway University as a mature student. I rented a room in Claddagh from a friend of a friend from September until December. Then returned a couple of times since. If my memory serves me well  2003 was my last visit. The last visit was only for one night, en route to…
