This senior sweetie is Cricket. According to Yolo County Animal Services, Cricket can't get enough love! She’s eager and enthusiastic for attention and pets! Cricket is happy and loves everyone. She loves being held and you can hold her close and she will just purr and relax in your embrace. Cricket came to the shelter as a stray, with her beautiful, long fur tangled in mats. Cricket may be hyperthyroid based on her appetite (we will do bloodwork), and a felt bilateral thyroid slip. She’s also very petite at 5.3 lbs. Cricket also needs a dental cleaning.

As Yolo County Animal Services stated: “Cricket is way too sweet to have our shelter be the last home she knows!”

So the rest is history.

She came to us in rough shape, very skinny and afraid of her shadow and basically every other shadow as well. Lilly spent her first few months with us curled up and taking shelter on our entertainment unit as high up as possible with as many exits as possible. Since those times Lilly has now turned into the world’s biggest suck. From the time we wake up she is sitting and waiting to be picked up and held like a baby and all she does is melt and purr into your shoulders. Lilly also adores belly rubs as long as you are patient with her and gain a great deal of trust she will reward you with the leg straight up in the air “You may rub my belly for me”. She may be 16 moving on 17 years old but she acts like a kitten and even resembles one at times. She is agile and can jump up to high places with little to no effort. One thing about Lilly is she craves a lot of attention and she can be a vocal cat if she feels she isn’t getting that attention at that moment. Most of the time she wants to be held or receive pets and will move on from there. She would likely do best in a single animal home or with another elderly cat that is not hostile or trying to be the alpha of the house. Lilly also is prone to gaining mats in her fur if she isn’t brushed daily so please keep that in mind. We’re not sure what she does to create them so quickly. Hyperthyroidism is no reason to give up your senior cat. There is special diet plans or even medication. This handsome man is TJ. He's 17+ years-old and a very sweet senior. TJ was surrendered at a local shelter by a woman who claimed he was a stray. Naturally, the shelter scanned for a microchip and found that he had one. (I think you know where this story is going). Turns out, TJ was registered to the woman who brought him in.

Busted!

Anyway, no way the shelter is going to make the woman take the cat back. And a shelter is no place for a senior cat, so we took TJ to give him a nice, comfy space with lots of room, windows, and plush beds… and people who really want him!

Two FABULOUS adoptions happened today! Grace AND Carol Peletier found their forevers! These ladies both came from the same shelter, but at different times. Grace had just given birth to her first litter in October and found herself at the shelter. We pulled her litter of kittens when they were about 8 weeks old, but didn't realize Momma Grace was still there in another kennel! We saw her a couple months later with severe hair loss and rashes from chewing. She was suffering from anxiety and stress and took it out on her poor skin. We have since had her on a grain free fish based food and her hair grew in and is getting better every day! Carol Peletier was turned in to the shelter as an owner surrender yet they only had her for a few months. She was found roaming and no owner came forward, so the finders kept her. Problem was, they then surrendered her to the shelter. She came to us smelling of strong cigarette smoke and with bloody diarrhea and mats in her hair. These special breeds need LOTS of grooming and care. She got some great bloodwork results after a course of treatment and only has the need for a dental.
