Idk if anyone has talked about it yet but the set design for Nerdy Prudes Must die, most not only the massive walls decorated with writing from the students.

Upon first watch you see your typical phrases like “You’re next” “Lock your door” and “Jäger’s Coming For You” which you assume relates to the relentless bullying throughout the school and how the students fear max.

And then as soon as max dies, the writing on the walls for the audience takes on its dual meaning of warning the characters of their oncoming suffering and/or demise

I just thought it was neat and wanted to point it out cuz the school walls are one of my favourite details

Speaking of hyperfixations and progress, it is (checks watch) 12am here but I just finished the floorplan of Wei Wuxian’s room at Lotus Pier, and I have Noticed Things. 

First of all, the scene I’m using as a (/my only) reference in episode 14 must’ve been crowded to film: The camera angles (orange) all line up against one wall. From what I can tell, the bed was shifted off-centre to accommodate the required shots, and as you can see from the green annotations above, a panel in the decorative dividers has been slid back in its frame several times to give a clearer view of the action.   

Speaking of camera angles, I’m really sad that I can’t accurately create a birdseye view of a lovely bit of independent shelving on top of the bookcase (#2). The shelves appear to float thanks to a curving ‘spine’ that widens at the top into a decorative strip, from which dangles a tassel:  

What I really want to point out, though, is this:

The drawing of Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze has changed. Here you can see the two figures are further apart. Alternatively, the final version of Wei Wuxian’s childish portrait can be spotted on the bed’s opposite panel:

Anyway, that’s interesting. I wonder if they were originally going to use a different room or a different layout of the set to film this scene.

Ok so I know I posted the whole set, but I keep coming back to this particular moment-

Because look at this whole situation. Aziraphale steps forward, directly into Crowley’s shadow. Not only is he getting closer, right into his personal space, but suddenly Crowley's face is going to be a lot clearer, not backlit anymore. At the same time the Crowley's hand retreats just a little from almost grabbing and dragging Aziraphale's cravat to doing a pointy finger. And then we have-

Where the eye contact is basically the most indecent thing I've ever seen. It's just... a lot.

I was rooting for him as a character! The twist villain reveal felt so heartbreaking! #Here in the audio drama (for as much as it does well) we pretty much get 2 scenes tops with this guy before he's villain monologuing. #before this we know him as 1) the guy NMJ yelled at a lot 2) a suspect 3) leader guy Jin Ling was partially raised by. #The elements are there but but not with any particular depth to make him...interesting (in this version). #Sure we get to learn more after the fact but it just falls so flat in comparison B*/ #ohhhh noooo the guy we are pretty sure killed a guy is gaslighting his wife and has a secret torture chamber. Gortash designs and builds mechanisms so I imagine he has to be able to sketch fairly decently in order to sketch his projects and designs. And I'm imagining a pile of charcoal sketches of Durge, done over their entire acquaintance, starting out with sketches of them in battle and then slowly becoming more detailed and intimate and as they do, the titles changing from things like "The Bhaalspawn" and "Bhaal's Chosen at Their Bloody Work" to "The Chosen in Contemplation" and finally just Durge's name

Chilchuck analysis speedrun: As a hardworking half-foot who grew up poor and discriminated against and had his gullibility taken advantage of multiple times in his early adventuring days, Chilchuck thinks optimism is a dangerous flaw. He’s stressed and strict all the time because his job is noticing details like traps that could get everyone killed before anyone knows it, he takes the lives of everyone to be on his shoulders, and with the way he speaks about it that probably partly reflects how he felt about taking it upon himself to provide for his family too. His life’s always been pretty centered around work and has become even moreso now that his wife left and everyone is independent, and due to past events he’s very iffy with bonding with coworkers. He thinks feelings and job are a disaster mix. Like with his wife or with parties hiring him as sacrifice, being open or having good faith is vulnerability which can get you hurt, so he processes and shows all his stress as anger instead of worry. Doing strict dieting probably isn’t helping the irritability what with hunger, and on top of being a hunger suppressant alcohol might be the main stress reliever he has.

at a certain point i think we need to acknowledge that art is very rarely created accidentally. if you can see a theme in a work than that theme was, more likely than not, at least somewhat intentional on behalf of the creator. you don't put a piece of yourself out into the world without thinking about what it means at least a little bit.

OKAY SO I FOUND SOME STUFF ABOUT RINK O'MANIA

Hi, Hello, Welcome as I take you down the journey I fucking went through

So I was watching byler clips, as one does, and I was wondering whether or not they got lucky with the yellow and blue lighting in Rink O'Mania or whether they like – change the light bulbs or whatever. So I decided to stalk the Skating Rink they filmed at.

And holy shit did I find some interesting things.

I have no idea whether or not this was discovered before but I JUST NEED TO SHARE. SO HERE WE GO.

So, first of all, the place was originally called Roller King but they changed it to Skate O'Mania. Which, pretty similar to Rink O'Mania right? THAT'S BECAUSE THEY REMODELLED THE ENTIRE FUCKING ROLLER RINK FOR THE SHOW

Followed by a video (which is just a photo) with a little clipart of "under construction"

THEN, on August 10th they posted that they wrapped filming.

"Remodel courtesy of Hollywood" They deadass redecorated the entire roller rink for the however many minutes spent in ONE episode of the season. (The probably spent half the month redecorating and the other half filming which I'm losing my mind over?? no way this is a one time setting).

They added the blue and yellow light strips and the disco ball. And I can’t say 100 but it looks like they removed the pink and green coloured light(?)

And they added the whole ‘Skate/Rink O’mania’ sign (basically everything honestly was added by them–)

And okay I’m sorry about the quality of the second one I couldn’t find a better photo from their Google maps gallery or Facebook bUT- you can see that originally the lighting scheme was pink and blue but now it’s yellow and blue.

Like idk I’m losing my mind over this- they really like remodelled the entire fucking roller rink and added so much yellow and blue like?? I just think it's insane and I needed to share this discovery.

now this is a really strong parallel, but why is tsukasa the maater of the strimgs while mafuyu is puppeteered by them? because his situation is much more self inflicted

mafuyu is very directly controlled by her mother, but tsukasa's issues are a bit less straight forward in origin. his parents told him to smile and be brave for his sister yes, but they did not intend for him to internalise that as "i cant be sad ever". his expectations for himself, while yes first prompted by his parents, are entirely his own. the subconscious expectations his troupe have for him are because thats what hes lead them to believe. mafuyu very much is at someone elses mercy, but a lot of this is tsukasa's own making, and he doesnt even realise thats what hes doing

it can also tie in to how hes a bit neglected and spent so much time alone growing up. his parents are a negative impact because of the lack of presence in his life, which is the opposite for mafuyu

no ok because forevers solo mission into the nether and all the vague ‘if I don’t return’ and ‘I’m sorry’ messages he’s left behind is made all the more heart wrenching because he wasn’t meant to be the martyr.

bad has been setting himself up for tragedy. it’s in the self destructive choices he makes, his hyper paranoia, his self isolation, the way he’s literally turning blue and can’t seem to notice it himself. and from a meta perspective, it’s obvious - he talks about lasting consequences, he makes very clear framing and music decisions, the story arc has been setting up for something big. he’s got a book that says it’s for forever’s eyes only and hinted at him needing his help. he’s said to tina that he’s 100% sure of one person ending up dead at the end of all this. he’s made it clear he’d do anything he thinks would get the kids back - self sacrifice included.

it’s been an anxious build up as bad gets worse and worse. as his friends pick up clues and notice. bagi says she knows that bad lies and can cause havoc, but she’s not going to leave his side because he is too sad to be left alone. foolish takes note of his color blindness before anyone else. forever demands his time and reassures bad daily that he is there for him. gives him a flower every day. makes an entire party just showing how much bad is cared for and loved. keeps talking and visiting even when he’s ripping out his hair with annoyance because bad just won’t quit being a nuisance, or argumentative, or a probable kidnapper.

it feels like love and doomed endings. it feels like a build up to something tragic. it feels like trying to save a drowning man who won’t let anyone pull him up. because bad is ready to work for the feds, torture people, burn down anything in his way, sacrifice himself in his desperation and grief.

but now its forever who’s gone and decided any danger to himself is worth it for his son. who’s left behind vague goodbyes and see you soons, unsure if he’ll survive but set on the kids surviving at the very least. he’s already decided his death is worth it.

and while it’s not a surprise, it’s enough of a script flip to punch us all in the gut. because we expected tragedy, we expected uneasy goodbyes and self destructive choices and that effect felt across the island - but we didn’t expect it to be forever.

and neither did bad - who relied on that flower every day

Expanded thought: The Nanami cowbell episode also relates to the themes of perception from the self and the other, and how it forces us into roles. Akio molding Utena into his princess primarily revolves around making her perceive herself as one rather than changing how she actually looks, which then leads to others genuinely thinking she looks "more like a woman" (even when she looks the same). That's the power of perception. On the other side of the coin we have Nanami's physical form being changed by how others perceive her; she starts wearing a cowbell, others see her as a cow, and she actually becomes a cow. And it couldn't be any other way, because Nanami's previous self exists for the perception of others too, it's a mask she imposes on herself, her role of "Touga's sister" nothing more than a role she HAS to act out in order to survive as a woman. Eventually, she becomes this mask; but once it's replaced by a new mask (cowbell), the change in how others perceive her forces her into a new role (cow). Just like Anthy is beaten down into accepting that she is a witch because that's what the world sees her as, Nanami is forced to accept being a cow. It's interesting, too, how this happens as a result of her trying to gain social status by wearing a fashionable item: her desire to surpass all other women is, itself, an imposed competition, a part of the role the patriarchy makes her act out. Society creates this competition, but at the same time, when Nanami engages in it, it punishes her by declaring her a cow. It shows both the futility and the hypocrisy of the whole scheme and reminds us once again that women are trapped in a lose/lose situation.
