walks with hansol aren’t always silent. when they are, they’re almost always comfortable. tonight isn’t one of those nights. you always know when there’s something on his mind. you see it in the way his gaze combs through every inch of the venue grounds, each step cautious and careful. he keeps his hands behind his back as both of you walked past a wooden sign, pointing one way to a quaint little building meant for the ceremony and the reception tent.

you head for the direction of the building.

the small building was mostly empty, except for the rows of chairs and wooden arch decorated with dried and fake flowers at the very end of the room that had been set-up earlier in the day. both of you opted to keep the wedding small. only sending out invites to family, close friends, and — of course — business associates.

you absently run your hand over the backs of each wooden chair as you follow hansol. he’s a few steps ahead, but both of you make your way down the aisle. it’s only then that it finally, truly, sinks in what was going to happen tomorrow.

you’re going to marry your best friend. your hansol. your sol, with the brightest smile you’ve ever seen. with the most comforting voice you’ve ever known. the same kid you’ve known before you could even walk on two feet.

“are you sure you want to go through with this?”

his voice snaps you out of your train of thought. hansol has already reached the end of the aisle and he’s looking at you with expectant eyes. his voice is soft, hesitant, the most worried you had ever heard it.

you don’t hide your confusion as you pick up your pace until you reach him. you raise a brow, standing just a few feet in front of him. “why are you asking me that? of course, i want to go through with it.”

you reach out, grab both of his hands, and give them gentle squeeze. hansol squeezes back, taking a deep breath, and gathering all the courage he has in himself. “you know how when we go on these late night walks, when you can’t sleep, or i get caught up in work?”

“mhmm.”

“you know the phrase i always say?”

“the moon is beautiful.” you let out a quiet exhale, recalling the words he always spoke to you. in a voice that’s tender and yet somewhat distant, as if he doesn’t want you to hear. but you always do.

and he knows that you do.

“to you, this could just be a business deal. a means to an end-”

your eyes widen, voice rising uncharacteristically as you cut him off. “that’s not how i see it at all. you know that.”

“you’re marrying your best friend.” he smiles, albeit sadly, and shakes his head immediately after. hansol lets go of your hands and lets his own fall at his sides, defeated. “it’s different for me… i’m marrying my best friend, and the love of my life.”

you feel tears prick at the corner of your eyes, but you blink them back and you let hansol continue speaking.

“going through with this is fine by me, but i don’t want you to wake up one day and regret it. because i love you. i don’t know why, or how, but i’ve never known a day where i didn’t love you.”

the weight of his words sit heavy on your chest, and you don’t let the silence last more that a few seconds. you reach a hand towards your pockets and pull out a bracelet. “i’ve been meaning to find a way to give this to you, i was hoping to do it before the actual ceremony. this wedding has been so publicized, and i wanted to take a moment that’s just between us two. no cameras, no press, no board members.”

you take his left hand and hansol lets you place the bracelet around his wrist. it’s a simple chained gold bracelet, but threaded through the loops are strands of cotton strings from a friendship bracelet you had made him in your childhood. you smile as his eyes light up in recognition.

“where did you find this?”

“i had some help from wonwoo. it took him a while to find that. i have one with the bracelet you made me, but it’s in my room and i didn’t wear it so i don’t spoil the surprise.” you laugh, shrugging your shoulders. “i know this wedding changes a lot of things, most of which are on the business side of things. it won’t change a lot either. you know, we’re not doing rings or taking each other’s last names. it doesn’t change the fact that we will take care of each other. and it doesn’t change the fact that i’m in love with you.”

his eyes widen in shock. “but wonwoo?”

“well, since he was older, it was kind of expected that i would marry him. and i thought, if i spoke of it enough times, i could will it into existence that he was the one i had feelings for.” you sighed. “but i’m standing here with you tonight, very much in love with you, like i have been the past couple of years. and i will stand with you tomorrow, in front of our friends and family, letting everyone know that this feeling isn’t going to change.”

hansol stands there, completely and utterly speechless. but mostly because he knows mere words would never be enough to express everything that he feels for you. so instead, he pulls you in for a kiss.

“hey- seriously?” you giggled and reached over the table with a napkin to wipe off the corner of wonwoo’s mouth where a bit of soy sauce sat.

he chuckled back and moved to swat your hand away. “can you blame me? it’s so good.” he stated, shoving another piece of sushi into his mouth.

he had asked you to get dinner with him tonight, although 5pm for dinner was a bit earlier than usual for your dinner “dates”, unless you had something else planned for afterwards too. however, as far as you knew, there wasn’t anything else planned. dessert, maybe? spontaneous karaoke? who knew, the night was still young and ready for adventure.

you laughed lightly while eating another piece of sushi yourself, admiring the joy and warmth radiating off of the boy in front of you. you’d had a serious conversation with him only days prior, but the dinner didn’t feel out of the ordinary in any way. you still loved him dearly, as did he.

you had another person on your mind, and wonwoo understood. he had to.

dinner passed by, all the while you and your best friend talked and made jokes, fighting over the bill and all. nearing the end of your dinner, you’d noticed wonwoo checking his phone more than he usually did. you weren’t sure the reason, but you figured it wasn’t really your place to ask. he led you out to his car, opening the passenger door for you before walking over and stepping into his own side.

you nodded. you trusted him.

he led you into the park, there were lampposts scattered throughout the grass to light up the area, but it was still fairly dark. you noticed the sound of faint guitar music and singing coming from somewhere, the direction you were walking. was there a concert going on? somebody busking? that wouldn’t be surprising to come across here, but nothing super special and new. it sounded like can’t help falling in love, but you couldn’t completely make out the words that the voice sang. how cliche.

wonwoo led you a bit further, and you saw it. you wondered if your eyes were deceiving you when you saw the line of your friends, each one holding roses, leading up to a beautiful gazebo. one that you spent time with your friends in often. one that you had memories of sitting in and chatting with the people who meant most to you.

however, now, standing there, holding a bouquet of roses, was the man that you’d spent the past months getting closer to. you saw joshua diagonally offset from him, playing his guitar and singing while smiling at you. his friends stood around the gazebo, holding candles, and your friends holding their roses and big smiles.

you stared in disbelief for a moment until wonwoo turned around to face you. you looked up at him, your mouth still open and not knowing what to say. he stepped to the side and stretched his hand out towards the gazebo, whispering,”he’s waiting.” you looked back and forth between the scene in front of you and your best friend.

you stepped forward, coming across the first friend in line, mingyu. he had a huge smile across his face and was hopping up and down, looking like a puppy. you giggled at the sight as you took the rose from his hand and stepped to the next person in line, junhui. he had an even bigger smile than mingyu if possible and the giggle carried on over to him as well.

minghao was next, standing with a grin that was small but reassuring. jeonghan and seungcheol followed next, and finally, you stepped to momo who stood just at the entrance of the gazebo. she handed you her rose and kissed your cheek, motioning for you to step into the area and finally come face to face with the man waiting for you.

before you took the final step, you looked over your shoulder to see your friends, the people you love the most, standing in a group, all giving you encouraging faces. you tried to ignore the noticeable tears on wonwoo’s face, but you couldn’t, and it broke your heart a little to see him like that.

finally, you turned back to him, who was once your bully, and now handing you six more roses to turn the six you were holding into a dozen. it felt surreal; the way your relationship turned around completely. someone you once feared seeing turning into someone who you spent nights falling asleep with. someone who you never wanted to see again turning into someone you wanted to spend every day of your life with.

“yn…” he started, pulling you out of your thoughts. “i know we haven’t had the smoothest past… and i’m so glad that you gave me a second chance. i admire you, yn. i always have. i’ve always thought you were the coolest person i’ve ever seen. i always wanted to be your friend, to just be able to spend time with you. i didn’t know how to express it back then, but i do now. i do now, yn, and i want to be able to show you every single day. so please…”

joshua’s singing stopped, the guitar fading from the last chord he strummed. chan searched your eyes. he wasn’t sure what he was looking for, but he just needed to know you were real. that you were there with him and that you were really real.

“yn, will you be my girlfriend?”

you could’ve sworn your heart stopped. you knew what was happening, but hearing the words really come from him could’ve killed you on the spot. you smiled, in turn making him smile, and nodded your head.

“yes. of course, chan. i’ll be your girlfriend.”

he threw his arms around you, pulling you into a hug while both his and your friends erupted in cheers. you swore you were in a movie, a fairytale story, a dream even, but there was no way in hell you’d ever want to wake up.

you both pulled away from the hug, looking into each others’ eyes.

chan spoke first, giving his first words to you as his official girlfriend.

“i’m yours, yn. and i’ll make sure you know it every single day of our lives.”

A/N: And that's a wrap! I finished my first series - FINALLY! 😂 First, thank you to all readers, the silent ones, the ones who left comments/asks, the ones who just reblogged, and everyone in-between! At the end of the day, I'm just another person behind a screen with stories I wanted to share and it means a lot to me that you all took your time to read and invest in 'Two Minus One'. I honestly did not think it would've reached as much as many people as did . . . I think the masterlist is at 600+ notes now?? Writing 'Two Minus One' was quite a process for me, not only being my first series I actually was committed to finishing, but also figuring out the mechanics of an sm au. I've always been a writer, not so much involved in other formats. SM au's looked cool from the ones I've read and took a shot at it - I never knew how difficult this type of fanfic could be until starting Two Minus One 😭 Props to those writers who can manage several sm au's at once - your efforts do not go unnoticed!

“Honestly it’s hard to not to..” you said guiltily. Jisoo did not say a word afterwards. Instead, he made an excuse to go home, leaving all the pizza and the melted ice cream in your living room.

“Sorry, it's difficult to digest,” he quietly muttered as he bid you a good bye. “Y/N, you know my feelings, right?”
