The wind was cold and bitter as Temenos trekked through Stormhail. The other travellers were staying at the inn, per his request. This was a matter he needed to handle on his lonesome. He drew his woolen cape tighter around him as he pressed forward, squinting to see through the snowy haze. There, he saw the twisting spires of the Sacred Guard headquarters, and a crowd gathered at the foot of the steps. Dread twisted his gut, worry tugged at his heart, and he braced himself for something horrible to warrant such a crowd.
He drew his staff from the folds of his cloak, parting the crowd as it glinted in the sunlight. “Pardon me, excuse me, yes, thank you...” He murmured as he slipped past the few people who didn’t move.
The sight that awaited him was the last one he wanted. Crick, hunched over in pain, barely breathing, a sword piercing his stomach. His eyes flicked up to Temenos’s, and his lips moved, rasping out his name. “Te... menos...” He gasped, and Temenos hurriedly fell to his knees, searching Crick’s face, checking his heartbeat. It was faint, but it was there. “Somebody go to the inn and fetch the apothecary! HURRY!” He rarely ever shouted, but he felt that he had to this time to get people to move.
It worked. Someone ran off to the inn, and not 2 minutes later, Cassti was barreling towards them, hand clutching her satchel tightly. She skidded on her knees in front of Crick, beside Temenos. “Temenos, do exactly as I tell you, and nothing more. Understood?” Though her voice was commanding, not harsh, it still send a ripple of surprise and shock that the Inquisitor of the High Church would allow this unassuming apothecary to order him around. Temenos simply nodded. “I understand, Cassti. Tell me what I can do to help.”
Perhaps Cassti heard the desperation in his voice, because her expression and tone softened slightly. “Use your Holy Light to heal the majors of his wounds. I am going to remove the sword, I want you to say the spell immediately after, okay?” Temenos nodded in understanding, and prepared himself. There was a disgusting sound- a mix between the crunching of ice and the wetness of something being removed from a squishy substance- and Temenos pressed his hands to the skin around the wound, closing his eyes so as to not have to look directly at it. He murmured the prayer, and warm yellow light began to glow around the injury, knitting the flesh inside back together. When he felt himself start to sway, he removed his hands, and pressed them against the earth, steadying himself. Cassti looked to the townsfolk. “Someone help me get this man to the inn! I cannot treat him here.” Someone came forward and grabbed Temenos’s arm, which he jerked away. “Not me, you fool! The Knight, the man with the stomach wound!” He cried, and the person fell back, looking embarrassed, before gently helping Cassti pick Crick up. He groaned, a good sign. Temenos tailed them, staff held tightly in his hand.
Cassti and the townsperson set Crick down on Temenos’s bed after Temenos laid down a clean sheet above his covers, and Cassti went to work. Half an hour of grueling work later, Crick was asleep with his stomach full of stitches and healing elixers, and warm under Temenos’s blankets. The cleric cast a grateful look at the apothecary, who just smiled and left.
Temenos was sitting down at the desk, reading his book of scripture, when he heard the telltale signs of someone waking up. He looked up and over at the bed, and saw Crick staring at him, eyes wide. Temenos smiled, and stood up, not bothering to hide how utterly relieved he was. “Crick...” He breathed, and Crick motioned for Temenos to join him in bed. Temenos obliged him, carefully sliding under the sheets to not disturb him. Crick rested his forehead on Temenos’s chest, and Temenos toyed with his hair. “I was so scared, Crick... I was terrified that you wouldn’t make it. I suppose I learned my lesson about underestimating a mighty Godsblade, hm?” Crick just chuckled, nestling his head further into Temenos’s clothes.
Although no further words were spoken that day between the two of them, the message they shared was clear.
I’m glad you’re okay.
au where kaldena forgot to sharpen her sword that day and lived to regret it

These little fuckers are round gobies. They are a freshwater goby that's invasive in Michigan, and they're in the nearby lake. They're distinct from the four native species due to their fused pelvic fins (middle pic) and a big black dot at the rear of their front dorsal fin. Though some other gobies have spots on their fins, NO Michigan-native species has a fused pelvic fin. These guys are very aggressive feeders and are very good at outcompeting native gobies.
They're also extremely good at stealing bait off big hooks as people on the docks reel in their lines. In particular, the bastard in the bottom photo stole my bait two days ago, so I caught him and filleted him for Bug.
Today, after acquiring smaller hooks, I went back and got 16 more, and educated several other fishers about their invasive nature. I got two turned over to me by others, and caught 14 more myself.
One man wandered over and asked why I was catching them on purpose. It was too much trouble to explain my feelings about invasive species, so I just told him, one of them stole my bait two days ago. He stopped watching my bobber and boggled at me and goes:
"You're doing this for revenge?"
So now there's some guy in town that thinks I am exacting revenge upon fish kind for a single stolen worm.

something. about. the horror of being sent on an impossible (death) quest and obligations and hospitality politics. the trauma of not having a home, and then the trauma of being in a house that becomes actively hostile to you, one that would swallow you whole and spit out your bones if you step out of line. all of this is conditional, your existence continues to be something men want gone.
it's about going back as far as I can with the perseus narrative because there's always a version of a myth that exists behind the one that survives. the missing pieces are clearly defined, but the oldest recorded version of it isn't there! and there's probably something older before that!! but it's doomed to forever be an unfilled space, clearly defined by an outline of something that was there and continues to be there in it's absence.
and love. it's also about love. even when you had nothing, you had love.
on the opposite side of the spectrum, this is Not About Ovid Or Roman-Renaissance Reception, Depictions And Discourses On The Perseus Narrative.
edit: to add to the above, while it's not about Ovid, because I'm specifically trying to peel things back to the oldest version of this story, Ovid is fine. alterations on the Perseus myth that give more attention Medusa predate Ovid by several centuries. this comic is also not about those, either! there are many versions of this story from the ancient world. there is not one singular True or Better version, they're all saying something.

listen I expected literally Nothing from the D&D movie okay, like I can't make it clear enough that I expected the most soulless money grab with a good cgi budget imaginable, I went in having already gone through every stage of grief and landed on acceptance and LISTEN
I fucking CRIED during this dumb RPG movie. it wasn't just "not terrible" it was objectively good with a clever plot and compelling characters and sincere emotional beats. this movie loves D&D so fucking much and it NAILS the "a bunch of goobers try to be cool and accidentally discover The Power Of Friendship And Also Great Violence" classic D&D party vibe. their barbarian's last name is fucking Kilgore and my entire family cried in the theater.
I hope they make twelve of these motherfuckers.

Danny is Cass's brother
So! Back when David Cain was making his "Perfect Weapon", he came across a complication.
Lady Shiva, the woman who was set to give him his Weapon, was pregnant with Twins.
He decided that the Spare was useless to him, and that he needed to devote all his time to the Weapon. He was about to give it up, or maybe just dispose of it, when he decided that it was fine to keep it. A Spare is still a Spare after all, if the Weapon ever failed or died, he could start from scratch.
So, Danny was raised for the first 8 years of his life as a Spare Weapon. He didn't get the same rigorous training that Cass did, as she was the main focus, but he was still trained in the basics. Even a Spare Weapon need maintenance after all.
Then, when he was 8, Cass broke into his Cell Room and ran from the Base with him. She knew that once she escaped, Danny would be the next one to suffer, so she took him as well.
Unfortunately, they got seperated somewhere in Illinois when they got caught by some of David's mercenaries.
Cass kept going, running all across the country before ending up in Gotham at 15 (1 year earlier than normal). There, she got adopted by Bruce Wayne and became the Vigilante, Orphan. She never stopped looking for her brother, but at the very least she knew that he must have escaped David Cain's men. They were focused specifically on her after all.
Cass had enlisted the help of her new Family to search for him. DNA tracking, Facial Recognition, even asking some of their Underworld Contacts for information.
Unfortunately, they had no leads. Until one day when one of their Facial Recognition Programs finally picks up on a Match.
The face of a Small Time Hero in Illinois.
...
When Danny and Cass got seperated, he ended up in Amity Park. After a few days of Wandering, he was found by Jazz, who then took him to her Parents and convinced them to Adopt him.
When Danny is 14, he is in a Lab Accident that turns him into a Halfa. Using his New Powers and Old Training, Danny manages to keep his new Family and Home safe from the Ghosts coming through the Fentons Portal. He becomes a Hero basically, even though he doesn't really want to attention.
He thanks the Ancients when he finds out about the Media Blackout Amity is Under. He guesses it's not great, but at least he is safe for now.
He continues like this until one day when he is 16, and there is a knock on the Door.
He opens it, and stands shocked when he sees his Sister. Not Jazz, the wonderful woman who took him in and taught him how to speak all those years ago. The one who has acted as his Older Sister for the past 5 years.
His Sister. His Twin. Cass.
After a moment of Shock, they simultaneously go in for a Hug and start to cry a little.
After a few minutes of calming down, Danny introduces his Sister to his bewildered Family. Cass likewise introduces her Adoptive Brother, Dick, who came along to make sure she was safe on the trip.
While Dick and the Fentons get acquainted, Danny takes Cass up to his room to talk.
She explains what happened after they got seperated, what she is doing there, and how she found him.
She tells him that she had originally come to Amity to bring him to her new Family, but she could see the love he held for the Fentons. Also the town needed its Hero.
Danny is shocked that she even found him through the Media Blackout, but not so much at the fact that she nailed his secret identity on sight. She was always observant after all.
After that, Cass and Dick stay in Amity for a few weeks so Danny and Cass can catch up. He introduces her to his friends, shows her around his parents Lab, and even let's her meet some of his kore friendly Rogues.
They are just having a great time.
...
Back in Gotham, Batman just got a very frantic call from Barry.
"Bruce, I just came back from the future!" Shouted Barry through the Comms.
"Explain." Demanded Batman. Barry knew better than to Time Travel without just cause. If he was forced to time travel, it was serious.
"A Villain shows up, an Apocalyptic Level Villain." Barry explains, "He destroys Everything. And I mean Everything. None of us can stop him, he has too many powers to combat. Flight, Invisibility, Intangiblity, Energy Beams, Energy Constructs, Ice Manipulation, Weather Manipulation, Electrokinesis, the list goes on."
"How do we stop him?" Asked Batman. This was dangerous, a Villain with even half of those powers was deadly already.
"It's complicated, but I think he followed me and another Hero back in Time. I think it may be a Closed Time Loop. He is the catalyst for his own creation."
"Is there any way to break the Loop? What is the main driving force to his Creation?" Asks Batman.
"Well, I know his name at least. He goes by Phantom, but his real name is Danny Fenton." Barry explains.
Bruce feels his heart grow cold. He knows both of those names.
Phantom, aka Danny Fenton, aka Daniel Cain.
Cassandra's Brother.
Barry seems to hesitate, before continuing, "...and as far as I know, the catalyst for his creation is the death of Orphan in Amity Park."
