Hi there! I recently just read a post you wrote last year answering the topic on why there actually is no love triangle in the anime Inuyasha - between Inuyasha, Kagome, and Kikyo - and I thought it was fabulous! It made me think about things from a different perspective for sure, especially being Christian, but opening up to ideas from eastern religions, like Buddhism, as you highlighted. I want to ask you something regarding Inuyasha, as well. What does Kagome see in Inuyasha? Besides the fact that their souls were meant to be together, what does she see in him to like him so much? When do you think Inuyasha realized he is falling in love with Kagome? I know for Kagome it was episode 48 in the anime tv series, when she goes back to Feudal Japan and they have that convo by the well and she admits she wants to be by his side - implying she likes him I think more than a friend here. But when does Inuyasha have this moment of realization that he likes her too?Was it around this time? After? Thanks so much! :)
Thank you so much! And sorry it took me forever to write this reply! #jobinterferingwithwhat'simportantlikeTumblr
As with love in real life, I don't personally think any of them fell in love at a precise moment. It developed over time.
I think Inuyasha was equally drawn to Kagome and repelled by her at first sight, due to seeing Kikyo in her. However, in the manga, it's clear that he softens to her fairly early on - namely, the first time he visits present day Tokyo, to help her with the little girl's ghost. He didn't believe there was anything they could do for the child, but Kagome refused to give up, and ultimately she proved him wrong. The imagery in the illustrations, and some of his silent reflections, indicate that he was won over by her heart. He's a bit of a damaged child, orphaned, rejected by his remaining family, yearning for nurturing. She gives this to him.
He's such a softy, really! And I think she was intrigued by the rare moments when he let his guard down and showed his vulnerable side - especially that first time she saw him go full human and he needed her to look after him. Each time he dropped the bravado and showed his inner tenderness, it gave her pause and she felt herself attracted without knowing it was happening. There are moments when she's talking with friends and they all see she's in love, but she hasn't worked it out herself. Their comments force her to reflect on her confusing feelings.
As for Inuyasha and Kikyo, there's a long scene that happens fairly early in the manga but I think it doesn't show up in the anime until later in the sequence. Anyway, we see the two of them bonding over both being outsiders, unable to live like ordinary humans. She gives is the one to suggest he use the crystal, so that he's fully human and she no longer has to dedicate her life to protecting the stone. She wants to live as a normal woman. He also protects her sister, which clearly attracts her.
All that said...I think the love Kagome feels for him goes deeper. It isn't about simply uniting because they're both misfits in their society. Kikyo feels a little...emotionally contained. Kagome is so much more passionate. Also, Kagome has no interest in changing him. She accepts him as he is - and ironically her acceptance is what transforms him. He's been seeking this from someone, anyone, for so long. She gives him a great gift no one else has ever given him - not even Kikyo, really.
But being with him transforms her, too. It makes her bolder, stronger. The two of them grow together, and learn from each other, the way soul mates should. This growth is possible because she is 500 years on from the point Kikyo was at. She is the soul having lived through so much more. With greater experience, she is able to give more to him.

Closing the Distance
Surprise another Inu/Kag one shot because I have zero will-power lmao. I just can't stop myself they are so fun!
Based on a prompt you can find here
You can also read this one-shot on AO3 here
For @fawn-eyed-girl, the main inspo behind my return to writing.
Closing the Distance -
The city is quiet, the click of her small law firm office door almost seems out of place as she closed for the day. The normally busy streets of Akasaka had lulled to a quiet hum around her. Kagome sighed, glancing down at her phone. The time glared up at her, nearly 12:00AM. She made a noise in discontent, “Poor Buyo probably thinks I abandoned him this time.”
Her heeled suede boots clicked on the pavement hurriedly toward Akasaka station hoping to catch the last train to Meguro. She sighed in relief, stepping onto the train right before departure. Kagome let her body sway with the motions of the train, opting to close her eyes as she stood, fingers gripping one of the over-head handles. She felt grateful her ride was a short one, only taking her 15 minutes total trip time.
When the train pinged its arrival to Meguro, Kagome smiled stepping onto the concrete platform. She waved to the train staff, a younger man who usually worked the evening train route in Meguro.
“See you tomorrow, Hojo-kun.”
He smiled in return, waving cheerfully, “Have a good night, Higurashi-san!”
Kagome tightened her scarf, once again glancing at her phone as she walked the distance from Meguro station to her apartment building. She scrolled through her notifications, pursing her lips as she read them aloud. “Email, email, another email,” she rolled her eyes but kept scrolling,” text from Sango, (2) missed calls from Kaa-chan, two new Instagram likes.” She let out a loud whine; not a single message from the one person she had been hoping to hear from.
Kagome opened a message thread, the name ‘Inu’ glowing at the top with a red heart emoji. She typed a message as she continued her path, just like she had done the last three nights. She knew he was outside the reach of cell service, somewhere in the mountains of Washington, USA, attending a business conference with his father.
<New Message to: Inu ♥
I miss your voice. ☹ I hope your trip is going well; call me when you can! ♥>
She clicked send, tucking her phone into her jacket pocket. She wasn’t trying to be clingy, truly, but her and Inuyasha had spoken nearly every day for almost a year and a half. Kagome smiled fondly at how their relationship had started, “Hah!” She snorted out a laugh, ‘if you could even call it a ‘relationship’ at first.’
They’d met in an online anime forum, both looking for recommendations to fill their generally boring day to day routines. She’d recommended Bleach, one of her all-time favorites, and Inuyasha had roasted her alive in the comments about the length of the series. She’d retaliated hard though, noting that in his bio he had One-Piece listed as top favorite, and that if he were going to be a hypocrite to at least try to hide it. They bickered incessantly in the forum comments, and eventually moved to private chat, the conversation taking on a more playful tone as time went on.
After that they had pinballed anime suggestions back and forth, building a repertoire of anime they both could enjoy, either together via Zoom or separately. It wasn’t long until their conversations turned more heated, and affectionate. She’d learned what he liked and didn’t like (curry being at the top of that list alongside Bleach) and that unfortunately for their budding relationship they lived on opposite sides of the world. He worked for his fathers growing tech corporation as head of marketing, and Kagome worked full time at a law-firm as a child advocate lawyer.
She had also learned that like her, Inuyasha had grown up in Japan, in a prefecture close to where she had grown up. He’d only moved to New York with his father after high school to get a head start working for the family company, and now he was in Washington laying groundwork for the company’s’ north-western sect. She blushed remembering a previous conversation they’d had six months into talking, and four months into dating.
“Do you think you’ll ever come back to Japan?”
It wasn’t meant to be a loaded question, they hadn’t known each other for long, but Kagome couldn’t stop herself from chewing on her lip nervously. She drew in her knees, letting them tuck underneath her on the couch.
She could hear him chuckle into the phone, “Do you want me to come back to Japan?” Kagome felt her cheeks tinging pink.
“I didn’t mean it like that!” She defended, “I mean of course I wouldn’t mind seeing you but…” She continued to babble on when he interrupted her.
“I would come back for you.” The words were quick and effective, going straight to the butterflies in her stomach, her heart rate increasing.
“You would?”
“In a heartbeat.” He offered the words to her like they were second nature.
“Inuyasha?” She smiled into the phone, waiting for his response.
“Hm?” he hummed a response, followed by a yawn.
“I really, really like you.” She could picture him smiling now, “I really like you too.”
They both had busy lives, but the part she loved most was that even in the mundanity of their daily lives they still managed to find time for each other. Except for the last three days.
“Keep it together, Kagome. It’s only been three days. He has no cell service,” she reminded herself fishing in her pocket for keys as she approached her unit.
Kagome pulled out the apartment keys, flipping through them easily to the correct one. The door opened with a click, and she shuffled into the genkan. She dropped her small purse onto the entryway table calling out into the dark as she always did, an inside joke to herself.
“Honey, I’m home!” She flipped on the entrance light and slid out of her jacket, chuckling, “Oh yeah that’s right...I live alone.” Well, not exactly, she did have Buyo after all. The fat cat normally came running as soon as she called out her inside joke, making it even more hilarious to Kagome. Buyo her fat sort-of roommate cat.
Her body stilled when this time instead of the mewling of her cat, a male voice called back out to her from the kitchen, “Oh good, you made it home,” the voice purred.
” I picked up some pizza,” the entry way to the kitchen was dimly lit, but Kagome didn’t need the lights on to know who was standing in her doorway holding a pizza box. A tall figure with silver hair swept into a bun, golden eyes gleaming with amusement and an undeniably familiar voice. One that she’d been hearing the last year and a half.
Kagome kicked off her boots in the genkan, launching herself across the apartment. Her arms locked around the figure’s waist, “Inuyasha!” She cried out his name, tears mercilessly streaming down her face as she hugged him tighter.
Inuyasha dropped the box of pizza onto the closest counter, tucking the crying woman into his arms more securely. He dropped his lips to her hair, placing a tender kiss to the top of her head. He was committing her scent to memory, lavender and soft vanilla. He inhaled deeply, letting out a content sigh.
“What are you doing here? How did you find my apartment? What about Washington?” Kagome managed to croak out the questions through tears. His fingers moved to tilt her face up to him, wiping the tears from her cheeks. He smiled a lopsided fanged grin, “I told you I’d come back to Japan for you.”
He said it with ease, like it was the most logical thing in the world. Kagome couldn’t stop herself as she pressed onto the tips of her toes to reach him. Her lips found his, and she pulled him closer, afraid he may vanish if she let go. He didn’t resist but instead melted into her touch, cradling the small of her back with his hands. After a few moments, Kagome released him with a pant, her chest heaving as he braced them against the closest kitchen wall.
Inuyasha dropped kisses onto her exposed shoulder, and Kagome stopped him with small hands fisted into his shirt. She had to tell him.
“I love you.” She blurted out the three words, cheeks flushed from their heated encounter and her confession. They had danced around the subject, but she’d known for a while. Kagome loved Inuyasha. She chewed on her lip, pulling it between her teeth but was stopped when he lowered to pull at her lip himself, sucking it against his mouth, and kissing her again sweetly.
“I love you too,” he said softly, cupping her face with his hand, “even if you like bleach.” Kagome let out a loud laugh at that, shoving his shoulder but then pulling him back for another kiss, just one of many more that would come now that she was truly home.

The Colour of Love: Sesskag oneshot
Tumblr media
This oneshot is dedicated to @chierafied as thanks for all her hard work and organisation in the sesskag community, particularly on tumblr for sesskag week and monthly prompts. She's also a wonderful sesskag author and always offers advice or a kind word ^^
Rated T
Summary: Shippo puts a spell on Kagome that allows her to see emotions in colour. It's fun to test out on her friends, but why is she seeing an awful lot of magenta around Sesshoumaru whenever she comes near? Sesskag oneshot
The Colour of Love
"I just need to test it on someone. You'll help, won't you?"
Kagome eyed the ominous glowing beverage in the fox's hands dubiously. She winced and picked up a basket, walking away with every intention of weaselling out of the conversation.
"Shippo, no offence, but the last time you tested something on me for class, horns sprouted out of my head and green pimples covered my face for an entire week. I'm not super keen on being your guinea pig this time, buddy."
His tail twitched and lowered, but her words did little to deter Shippo. He followed the miko as she attended to her chores; freeing swaying sheets from where they'd been hanging out to dry and folding them neatly into a basket.
"Oh pleeassee, Kagome! Sensei oversaw my casting process this time- there's no danger, honest! It's not even that cool of a spell."
Kagome arched a brow, lifting off another sheet and smoothing the cool creases. That was odd, Shippo always preferred the flashier spells. "What does it do?"
"It would let you see everyone's emotions in colour."
She tilted her head, "in colour? How would that work?"
Shippo grinned mischievously, holding up his cup and shaking it gently. "Wouldn't you like to find out?"
Giggling, she thought for a moment, biting her bottom lip. "I guess it sounds pretty harmless. And this is for a grade?"
"Yes!" he nodded rapidly, eyes widening as his tone became pleading. "Sensei already graded all the other kids! I'm the only one who hasn't passed yet, and everyone else in the village refuses to help me! I'd owe you big time, Kagome. Please?"
Giving a large, put-upon sigh and folding the last of the sheets, Kagome squatted down before him. "Alright, alright. I just have to drink it?"
Green eyes brightened, and he handed the cup over eagerly, the contents nearly spilling. "Mhm! The effects should only last for a few days~!"
The glowing blue shimmer within her cup didn't exactly fill Kagome with confidence, but she didn't want to stifle his progress. It was wonderful that Shippo could advance in his magic at a kitsune school. Secretly, she felt somewhat guilty about the subject. She hadn't been able to witness his growth for three years after being stuck in the future.
Steeling herself and deciding to support him, Kagome downed the foul-tasting concoction. Coughing and blinking away thick tears that stung her lashes, her tongue roved around in her mouth as though trying to escape the taste of sour candy mixed with spices and mint leaves. What an odd combination. Shaking herself and noticing Shippo watching her worriedly, blue eyes widened as a faint shade of grey coiled and moved around the outline of his body like a shining aura.
"I-I think I see it?" Kagome gasped, reaching out and trying to touch the thing, though it had no solid form.
"Really?" Shippo lit up, the colour immediately becoming a tentative yellow, which only shone brighter into a canary hue when she nodded.
Giving a happy cheer, Shippo asked her about any side effects, which were none as far as she could tell.
They then decided to walk around Kaede's village together, Kagome noting any people they passed by and the colour of their current emotions. Shippo hurriedly took notes.
"There's Miroku meditating-" Kagome pointed to the quiet meadow they passed where the monk sat calmly, having gained two pupils to teach. Monks in training. Inuyasha had voiced his doubts that it would last long once the monks witnessed Miroku's less than savoury habits.
"His aura thingy is lavender and seems controlled," she observed in a hushed tone.
The little kitsune made a noise of affirmation, writing that down on a trailing scroll. "I think purple must be linked with spirituality then? This is great info!"
Giggling, she nodded, noticing how faint the pupil's auras were. She wondered if her own focus on spirituality would be strong or weak.
Moving on, noticed Sango outside her hut, who seemed absorbed in rocking her infant son while he dozed. Her twins were playing with some spinning tops that Shippo had given them.
"What do ya see, Kagome?" he tugged at her pant leg.
She hummed, gaze gentling. "Sango is radiating a kind of baby pink glow. The twins are like yours earlier- yellow and excited."
"So I guess love is pink," Shippo nodded.
Noticing something, Kagome waved a hand slightly. "Hold on-"
"Hm?"
Kaede and Rin were walking towards them, engaged in conversation. The little girl chirped on about something or other, while Kaede nodded indulgently.
"Kaede and Rin have pink auras too, but it's different. It's a pale pink, more like a pearl."
Shippo tapped his small chin with a pen Kagome had lent him. "Hmm…"
"I guess it makes sense since there are different types of love, don't you think?" gently prodding him, she smiled.
"Oh! So like they're feeling something kinda similar to Sango, but different."
"Right," Kagome grinned wider, proud of him. "Familial love for Sango, and platonic, friendly love for Kaede and Rin."
The old miko and her charge stopped to greet them on the path. "What are ye both up to today?" Kaede's single eye slid down to the scroll questioningly.
Kagome waved it off. "Just some schooling."
"Yeah, but it's fun! We're testing magic!"
Rin gaped at Shippo, aura turning green. "Aww, can I help them?" she turned to Kaede with a pout, clasping both hands and making big brown eyes even wider.
"Ye have your own training to attend to, Rin. Come along," the old woman kept walking with a dusty chuckle.
Whining good-naturedly with a now agitated orange glow about her, Rin trudged after her guardian, giving a despondent farewell to Shippo.
At that moment, foul cursing filled the air. The loud, booming swear caused nesting birds to take flight from their trees near the village.
The miko and kit shared a dry look.
"Inuyasha," they sighed in unison.
Needless to say, their former travelling companion's emotions glowed a vibrant red- outshining even the robe of the fire rat. He held his sore thumb, having accidentally hammered it while fixing a neighbour's chicken coop. Kagome wisely hid her laughter, feeling a plume of affection for him, since he'd taken it upon himself to help a neighbour.
I wonder what colour surrounds me when I look at Inuyasha, she wondered, fishing out a small mirror. Unfortunately, she couldn't see the colour. Though they'd broken up after a couple of weeks of dating, that candle of first love between them wouldn't be snuffed out completely. Since she couldn't coax that flame any higher than a tiny, nostalgic flame, she wagered it to be a kind of pastel pink colour.
After a few hours, Shippo looked down at the list of emotions they'd observed. "I think I got most of em' for now. We did great today, Kagome! Thanks so much!"
She giggled and ruffled his hair. "Don't sweat it, kiddo. I need to collect some herbs now, so if I see some new ones while I'm out, I'll let you know," Kagome grinned, leaning a basket against her hip. "I'll be able to see these emotions for a few more days, so no sense in turning in your test results early."
Shippo gave her a brief hug, before racing off to go organise his notes. Beaming with pride, Kagome walked out of the village and up a hill towards Inuyasha Forest with a small skip in her step. She'd helped! And luckily there'd been no side effects or worries of any kind.
Maybe I should help him out more often, she mused, noticing a certain Daiyoukai step out from beneath the shade of trees, powder blue shifting around his aura calmly. Smiling amiably, Kagome lifted a hand in greeting as their gazes met- before freezing.
Sesshoumaru's expression didn't change from its usual combo of placid, haughty and stoic. However, the energy surrounding him immediately dyed a deep, vibrant colour.
Kagome's breath hitched, eyes widening.
It plunged into a bold magenta hue, becoming a solid outline that coiled and thrummed.
She did not understand what it meant, but that she could elicit a change in emotion from him at all felt startling.
He stared at her, unblinking. As he drew closer and closer, Kagome tried to make sense of what he could be feeling, but his guarded eyes refused to risk any secrets being revealed.
"Miko," he acknowledged in his usual crisp, silky baritone. His way of a greeting.
"Sesshoumaru," she said, muscles tensing as he passed by, the silk of his billowing sleeve brushing the hypersensitive skin of her arm. Kagome blinked rapidly, reeling.
Shifting to watch him leave surreptitiously, she watched the magenta remain long after they'd parted ways, spying him duck into Kaede's hut to pay Rin a visit.
What the heck was that about?
Maybe it wasn't anything worth noting. Surely, just like anyone else, the Daiyouki had various emotions linked to things. People elicited different feelings from him; that was perfectly normal. But his mood had changed so swiftly upon seeing her that Kagome couldn't help but feel curious. What did magenta mean? Had she offended him? Did he always feel that specific emotion around her, or was it a one-off?
Turning on her heel, Kagome dismissed her task of fetching herbs in favour of seeking Shippo out again.
---
"What does magenta mean to you?"
"To me?"
Kagome nodded seriously.
Thinking for a moment, Shippo hummed and nommed on a lollipop, leaning back on the log he'd perched upon outside. "I dunno, it's a pretty colour but not a favourite. Can't get much use outta it with my crayons."
"No, I mean like - surely there has to be some demon opinion of magenta? Is it associated with a powerful emotion or something?"
Shippo shook his head, consulting the forgotten scroll. "My guess is- since purple is spiritual stuff, Sesshoumaru feels uh...like you remind him of holy things?"
Huffing out a sigh, she flopped down beside him, placing her chin in her hands. "Doubt that. He didn't seem calm," she mumbled, remembering the vivid intensity of his unblinking stare. "Hm, maybe since red- which is anger- and darker blue- which is sadness- has to mix to make the right shade of magenta, that means Sesshoumaru is both angry and sad when he looks at me." Kagome's stomach dropped. "Oh God, do I make him smad?"
Shippo snorted and tossed his lollipop aside to shake her arm, noticing the dazed look of worry glazing her eyes. "You don't make him smad."
Kagome remained unconvinced. The kit groaned, hopping up and grabbing her hand. "You don't! I'm sure it was just a coincidence he was feeling magenta around you. Let's go see!"
The miko stumbled after the exuberant fox, not fully realising where he intended to go until it clicked they were heading toward Kaede's hut. Kagome's heels abruptly dug into the earth, dragging. "Shippo!" she hissed. "He's visiting Rin- I don't want to interrupt."
"You won't be, it looks like they're saying goodbye already."
Blue eyes widened and her attention snapped up from the fox to land on some distant figures up ahead. Even from far away, Kagome could see the pearl pink aura coiling around Sesshoumaru as he lay a gentle hand upon Rin's head of brown hair. The girl beamed, giving off her own warm shine.
Kagome bit the inside of her cheek, heedless of her own approach now. She realized then just how personal and vulnerable the emotion spell could be- how rare and revealing it was to witness Sesshoumaru experiencing such a wholesome bond, free from violence. Enemies could potentially use it on each other to find out secret information easily.
The Daiyoukai seemed to inhale- abruptly stiffening and lifting his hand away from Rin as claws twitched, curling into his palm. Kagome witnessed the moment his aura bled darker, slipping from innocent pink into the strong shade of magenta- just as he turned his head in their direction. Golden eyes pinned her in place. Sesshoumaru seemed to grow tense and watchful, showing none of his previous warmth.
Shippo paused when they weren't too far away, glancing up and noticing Kagome's pale expression. "Uh... has it happened again?"
"It's even worse than before," Kagome whispered.
"Kagome, Shippo!" Rin called over to them, waving. "Are you still playing with magic?"
This seemed to catch Sesshoumaru's attention, ripping his heavy gaze away to land on his ward. "Magic?"
"Mhm! They're doing some kitsune homework with a spell," she smiled, seeming to gain a devious expression and hurrying over to grab Kagome's freehand, pulling her the rest of the way towards her lord. "Kagome! You should take a quick break and sit with Lord Sesshoumaru. Share some tea together!"
Horror churned fierce and fast through Kagome's system. She didn't want to make him uncomfortable, and prolonged exposure to her would no doubt suck for him if magenta was an irritated colour.
"That is unnecessary, Rin," Sesshoumaru uttered, confirming Kagome's suspicions. She winced a little anyway, wondering why it stung. "This one was just passing through, I will leave now."
Making a noise of complaint, the girl's grip tightened. "Well then, she should accompany you! W-we need medicinal herbs and you didn't gather any earlier, did you Kagome?"
She willed the earth to swallow her whole. "N-no…"
"Then it's decided! She can walk you to the forest since she's heading that way." Rin poked and prodded them to get moving. In all the confusion, Shippo slipped away to make some notes, giving Kagome a thumbs up- which she returned with a death glare.
Wondering what had come over Rin but being trapped by politeness to refuse, Kagome grimly started walking alongside Sesshoumaru, picking up a basket from Kaede's hut.
I shouldn't feel guilty or weird around him, she thought, trying to ease her worry. If he's getting bent out of shape just from seeing me, that's his problem. I'm pretty confident I haven't insulted him recently.
Kagome nodded silently to herself, endeavouring not to let Sesshoumaru's secret magenta emotion matter so much-
"You appear well."
Jumping, Kagome whipped her head up to the regal demon. "Huh?" she blinked, heat touching her cheeks. "Oh! Thanks!" the magenta outline grew bolder, much to her chagrin. "You look nice too. Aha-! I mean not nice- well, you look handsome- but in a good health way! Not a 'compliment on your looks' way. That's totally what I meant. "
Open mouth, insert foot.
His aura only seemed to fluctuate more, and Sesshoumaru's lips thinned. Kagome inwardly groaned. No doubt he hated her even more now!
She decided an attempt to smooth over everything was in order. "Sesshoumaru," she said, taking a breath. "I know we might not be what you'd consider close, but I'd be totally fine with talking about anything that might be bothering you. Even allies can talk about that stuff."
Sesshoumaru blinked languidly, looking as though she'd blurted out a foreign language. He then faced forward, features becoming tightly controlled. "Nothing unsettles me, miko. It is a foolish, human sentiment that I should be 'bothered' by anything."
Kagome rolled her eyes, mouth twitching. Proud, stubborn guy. She didn't know why she found it kind of endearing.
"Why are you so certain I am troubled?"
Her steps faltered before she strode on, biting her bottom lip. "I have a knack for feeling out these things. A woman's intuition," she grinned, noticing his stare rove lower, south from her eyes.
"Hn," golden eyes lingered. Kagome wondered if she'd gotten something stuck in her teeth. "Your intuition is certainly lacking if you are only just noticing something amiss."
A victorious noise escaped her and she immediately swooped in on the slip-up. Sesshoumaru seemed to wince. "Aha! So something IS wrong!"
"Miko-"
"It's just that you've been dealing with it for such a long time that it's become almost normal to you. That about right?" she grinned.
Kagome took his moody silence as a 'yes.'
"I'm sorry I didn't pick up on it earlier. Shippo's um...spell...has made me extra sensitive to how others are feeling," she revealed a half-truth. "I just can't work out how you're feeling. Heh, you're mysterious even when I've got magic to help me understand you."
"You wish to understand me?"
"Well, yes? You're our ally. As established; I'd like to be your friend too."
"I see."
"Sooo...?" Kagome hedged as they arrived at the border of the trees. The Daiyoukai stopped and turned to her once they were beneath the branches, having stepped under cool shade. Kagome quieted, wondering at the assessing, guarded look he pinned her with. Why should the mighty Lord Sesshoumaru guard himself against her of all people?
Pale lips quirked, and he hummed, giving a haughty, arrogant smirk. "Figure it out yourself."
Her mouth fell open. Ire immediately simmered real and hot beneath her skin. "That's not helpful, Sesshoumaru! The whole point of having friends is to share stuff! You can't expect people to know how you're feeling without you telling them, I'm not a mind reader."
He moved in slightly closer then, leaning down. Kagome swallowed but tensed her legs to keep from bending back, holding her ground and straightening her spine. It proved difficult. Sesshoumaru's cold features had a way of unnerving even the most hardened warriors. It was the lack of empathy or emotion in his animalistic gaze; the terrifying sense that something was missing; humanity.
But...
Kagome's eyes strayed to the magenta aura that only blazed thicker and larger, practically drowning her. The spell revealed, albeit without his consent; that Sesshoumaru was a man of feeling. In fact, whatever emotion plagued him, it roared stronger than any other persons she'd seen that day. Besides all that, she'd witnessed his care of others before. Been on the receiving end of it when he'd saved her a few times.
In the shade's hush, he tipped his head slightly, silver hair falling free from behind a pointed ear. "I am not a being that 'tells' other's information freely. Demons can glean enough from my body language, scent and actions enough to understand my feelings."
"And I appreciate that," Kagome said in a softer tone. "But I'm not a demon."
"Rin-"
"Is a child who has spent a lot of one-on-one time with you. I'd also wager that while she understands a lot of your intentions...she doesn't always understand you either."
Sesshoumaru begrudged her point, though seemed ever unwilling to let his mask slip to reveal anything.
Searching his gaze, she wet her dry lips. "What does the colour magenta mean to you?"
His aura flared, and Sesshoumaru surprised her by leaning back and stepping away. His features became a mix of things, the colours changing for the first time around him- grey, yellow, black, fluctuating on magenta and orange before settling on a particular shade of red that made her squeak.
No way- is he embarrassed?
"Why ask that?" he asked in a removed, steady tone. If she focused though, Kagome could pick up on the faint slip in his voice.
Kagome for once couldn't answer, heart hammering in her ribcage. She wasn't sure what to interpret from his reaction, but the colour obviously meant something to him. Shaking her head, Kagome waved it off.
"Never mind. I'll take your advice and work it out for myself."
He blinked and arched a brow, seeming to recover from his surprise. "Oh?"
Kagome made a noise of affirmation, turning on her heel and taking a few steps away. Pausing, she flashed him a smile over her shoulder. "And if I guess correctly, you agree to start telling me the important stuff. Deal?"
Sesshoumaru's face flashed with intrigue. Slowly, thin lips curved. His expression transformed into something quietly eager, the colour aura deepening into blazing magenta once more.
"Hn."

After asking near everyone she could think of for their input or ideas, Kagome ran into a brick wall, utterly stumped. That was- until she heard a certain irritatingly high, grating voice.
"But WHERE did Lord Sesshoumaru go?"
"I don't know, he said he was just passing through."
Jaken.
If anyone had insight into Sesshoumaru, it would be the little green imp. Kagome hurried in the direction of the helium sounding voice.
Finding Rin and Jaken by the village well, and struggling to pull a bucketful up together- Kagome quickly lent a hand, hefting the bucket up onto the side. The little girl grinned and thanked her, while Kagome crouched before Jaken, causing him to squeak.
"W-what is it? What do you want?!"
"I need to talk to you," Kagome said seriously. Resting her hands over her knees and leaning forward intently. "Magenta. Tell me your thoughts on that colour."
Bulbous yellow eyes widened. "Hah? Have you lost your senses, strange girl?"
Rin pouted and lifted the heavy bucket down, spilling some water. "Just do it, Master Jaken. If Kagome is asking, it must be important."
Kagome smiled a little, before schooling her features back into complete seriousness.
The imp sighed and squinted, before thinking for a moment. "Hmm, well. I would of course associate it with the most illustrious Lord Sesshoumaru!"
"H-huh? Why?"
"His cheek and wrist stripes are that exact shade! Don't you pay attention to anything?"
Kagome realised he was entirely correct. They matched up perfectly. Excitement built in her chest, feeling like she was FINALLY getting somewhere with the big mystery. "So it's linked with him… I see. What do you think the colour represents?"
"Haven't the faintest idea," he tilted his head back with a haughty sniff. "But since they adorn Lord Sesshoumaru, I can only conclude that it must be a royal, prideful colour."
Her elation fizzled out. Kagome wilted, sighing and standing once more. That didn't fit at all. No way would Sesshoumaru feel pride while looking at her.
Stepping away with the dismal thought that she was back at square one, she paused upon noticing a tugging on her sleeve. Rin clutched the trailing end of it, looking up at her in quiet earnest. She bit her lip and seemed to struggle with something. "I-I'm sure the answer is there if you just try asking more questions, Kagome."
The miko softened and petted her wild hair, smoothing the locks back from her face. "You really think so, kiddo? Because I'm kind of stumped right now."
"Mhm! I don't know what homework you're helping Shippo with, but if its causing you to take an interest in Lord Sesshoumaru, I encourage you to dig deeper!"
Kagome wasn't sure why she felt so strongly about the subject, her smile becoming a little confused. Nonetheless, she decided to take the advice and try again.
The right question…
Grabbing the back of Jaken's robes and tugging him back before he could walk off, Kagome knelt down. She decided to shift her focus. "Those markings on Sesshoumaru's face and wrists- I was wondering if they mean anything."
"Bah! Such things have a multitude of uses! Ahem!" he lifted up a tiny green claw. "Firstly, they are to show that he is poisonous."
Kagome stifled a giggle behind her hand, smiling with her eyes at Rin. "So he's like a flower."
"No! Nothing like a flower! He is deadly!"
"Poisonous flowers exist- but never mind that," she waved off. "What else?"
"Second, the positioning of the markings represents various things. The ones on mi lord's cheeks represent superior jaws, the wrists and ankles represent superior strength in his arms and legs, while the hips represent that he will produce superior offspring."
Kagome turned steadily red, wondering how low those stripes hooked down his hips. She hadn't even known he possessed hip stripes and was now picturing him half-naked. Kagome quickly shook the fantasy away. Rin didn't seem to understand that last part but thankfully remained quiet.
Jaken continued on, bolstered by such a captive audience and happy to talk about his favourite subject. "Lastly, they are to catch the interest of a mate."
"They... are?"
The imp nodded with vigour. "If you were the slightest bit observant, you'd notice that the vibrancy of his markings has emboldened recently. This means he is displaying for a female."
She had noticed that, actually, but Kagome hadn't thought anything of it. She felt close to a conclusion then, so achingly near to the truth. Swallowing to moisten her suddenly dry mouth, Kagome soldiered on.
"I saw that the ones on his cheeks had become bolder. What about his crescent moon?"
Jaken waved a tiny hand, "the moon is just to show which clan he belongs to. In relation to your original question, it is the magenta markings that are paramount. They are intrinsically linked with all that I noted; intimidation signals and mating."
Kagome nodded, inwardly reeling. She mulled this over and thanked him for the valuable insight. Magenta obviously meant more to Sesshoumaru than she'd ever thought.
In light of Jaken's words, Kagome found herself having to observe a certain set of emotions. Since mating was on the list, she reluctantly wandered in search of a known pervert.
Sweat beaded on her forehead as she took Miroku to one side. After explaining the situation in a succinct manner, she took a breath.
"I need you to get horny for your wife."
Miroku stared. He then pushed back his sleeves, clearing his throat and righting his collar. "My time has come."
Kagome's eyes widened and she held up her hands, "wait- I'm not asking to be weird or anything. M-maybe I should explain more."
He lay a comforting hand on her shoulder, patting. "No further explanation necessary, Lady Kagome. If this is in service of deeper understanding between allies, I am more than happy to help. Observe."
Miroku breezily walked away, gravitating towards Sango who had set down their son, attention on the crawling toddler. Kagome groaned and buried her face in her hands- shifting some fingers aside to witness the moment Miroku's calm blue aura darkened.
For a moment, panic leapt down her windpipe as it deepened into purple, hovering over magenta- before the aura settled on a lush hot pink.
The sound of a slap sounded out, Sango moving away from Miroku's groping hand. "I've told you before; not in front of the children!" she hissed.
Her husband laughed airly, stroking his cheek and giving her a fond smile. Kagome's heart warmed slightly, witnessing the hot pink glow into a warm pinkish red.
I think that must be the colour of love.
This, unfortunately, didn't answer any of her questions.
The possible things Sesshoumaru could be feeling toward her made the miko's stomach twist into knots. She went over what to say in her head a dozen or so times- and then a dozen more. It was no easy feat to wait on pins and needles for the demons' return. Inevitably though, word of his return reached her a few days later.
---
Sesshoumaru had been spotted by the trees bordering Inuyasha Forest so she'd set off alone immediately.
Since the sun beat down mercilessly, Kagome was unsurprised to find him by water. Elevated temperatures were likely brutal on those who regularly wore armour- evidenced by the fact that she walked in on him very much without it. Sesshoumaru knelt by a river, eyes closed and hankimono parted- exposing a thin sliver of firm, pale muscle. His head slightly dipped forward, hair held over one shoulder as one hand cupped cool water and splashed it over the back of his neck. Droplets ran down the length of his throat to dip around his collarbone- some sliding down his back. Sesshoumaru massaged the base of his skull, before cupping more water and repeating the process, long fingers running over the back of his glistening neck.
Kagome stared. She'd suddenly never been so thirsty in her life.
His lashes fluttered open to glance at her. His continued silence prompted her to clear her throat and murmur; "I'm not sure if I've got it right."
"Explain."
Kagome felt a blush rise to her cheeks and panic erupted in her chest. She suddenly wasn't ready. She wasn't nearly as ready for this as she needed to be. Approaching the Daiyoukai dressed in a white tank top and dungarees had not been the plan but she'd impulsively sought him out without thinking about it.
His voice turned softer, almost coaxing. "What conclusion did you reach?"
Kagome bit her lip and felt the need to explain her process of elimination. "First off; I feel like I should be honest with you. I can see the colours of people's emotions around them due to a spell Shippo used on me. That's why I was asking about magenta. It's...it's the emotion you keep feeling whenever you see me- I just had no idea what it meant."
Golden eyes cracked a fraction wider, exposing the liquid honey swimming inside, glinting in the afternoon sunlight with interest.
"I asked Jaken about the colour since he has an insight into you more sound than other people. He told me that magenta was linked to your markings- which can represent intimidation signals and m-mating interest."
He arched a brow, something unnamed flickering over his expression. Kagome began pacing back and forth before him. "So! The first thing I did was follow Inuyasha into a fight. There was a weasel youkai bothering a farmer. I noticed Inuyasha's aura turned a brownish, orangey-red during the fight and concluded that was likely aggression! So I figured you weren't feeling defensive around me," she gave a nervous giggle. Why was the sun so damn bright? The humidity only elevated the spike of nerves pricking the back of her neck.
"Next came the... other thing," her voice dimmed and Kagome evaded eye contact. "I noticed Miroku feeling uh...frisky around his wife. His aura turned hot pink- so it wasn't magenta- not that I thought you could ever feel that way about...me," she babbled. "Hell, I've consulted Shippo's scroll a thousand times. I've run through all the emotions we could find and- gah! I couldn't find anything that explained magenta. I guess I failed in figuring out what's bothering you," her shoulders slumped in defeat.
"You went to all that trouble?"
Kagome lifted her gaze to his, loosely holding her arms. "Well, yeah. I kind of realised that I wasn't being fair to you the other day. You shouldn't be expected to verbalise your problems if you're not comfortable doing so. It's a different method than what I'm used to in order to communicate- but if you're happy doing that I won't push you to open up to me."
Since she'd failed to work out his problems, however, Kagome grimly figured there was no hope of them being friends. The thought somewhat bothered her. Sesshoumaru was a solid, assuring presence to have around. It would've been nice to have a deeper insight into the inner mechanisms of his cerebral mind.
Maybe priestesses and demons just can't understand each other.
A shadow fell over her, bathing Kagome in shade. She looked up, finding his curious, burning gaze bearing down on her.
As usual, magenta coiled and expanded around him. So large and encompassing.
Sesshoumaru tilted his head slightly. "Some actions do not require words in order to understand them."
Kagome could only blink, face heating as he hooked a finger beneath her chin and tilted it up- before her heart burst into overdrive in time with lips pressing against hers.
Her squeak came out muffled, hands scrambling uselessly and finding his shoulders, quickly lurching away from the firm muscle to hover uselessly in the air. Sesshoumaru grabbed one of her hands and forced it to his broad shoulder, holding it there as he explored her open mouth.
The miko reeled, dazed eyes picking up the shining magenta aura before her lashes slid shut. Kagome let out a breathy noise as his tongue slid over hers, reciprocating for a moment before her mind caught up with the situation and- WHAT THE HELL WAS SHE DOING?
Kagome's palm pushed against his broad shoulder, ripping her mouth away from his and panting. Sesshoumaru remained close, breath shuddering slightly, gaze hooded.
"That-" she started, having to lick her lips. "That requires MANY words, buster. So many words are needed to explain what the hell just happened."
The Daiyoukai managed to look put out, eyes turning flat. "It seems your ignorance requires a lack of subtlety, but I do not mind. If it is necessary to have you- I will adapt and explain myself."
"To... have me?" Kagome's breath hitched. Somehow magenta was all she could see- his cheek markings so bold and bright.
Sesshoumaru's jaw ticked, eyes squinting and attention shifting away as he seemed to gather his thoughts and construct them onto his tongue.
"Magenta is the colour of love to inuyoukai."
He said it so easily. After all that confusion and so much second-guessing, Kagome was almost angry with him. Almost. The rest of her brain was too focused on processing the unthinkable thing he'd just said and the implications behind it.
"But...your markings…" she croaked.
"Have little to do with it- though Jaken's explanation was not incorrect."
Kagome shook her head, searching his face. "I just...I'm struggling to understand h-how? I mean, you can't feel that way about me."
"Why not?"
"B-because!" she squeaked, cheeks blazing red. "Isn't love a bit of a leap? You barely know me."
Sesshoumaru huffed, placid features shifting to become slightly guarded. He didn't know when it had started happening for he was in the middle before he even knew he had begun, but more and more, he sought her opinions and company. She spoke well and intelligently after all- had destroyed Naraku and the jewel with such power and finesse that had made his instincts stir. "I know enough. This is not something recent. I have watched... and wondered for some time."
"Wondered... what?"
"If it was possible to bridge the gap between us. Perhaps it was foolish to think we could be compatible."
He had a point. Even a spell hadn't helped her understand him any easier. But when Sesshoumaru slowly stepped back, quiet disappointment simmering behind his blank mask yet clear in his eyes- something like panic possessed her. Kagome grabbed his sleeve, blushing harder.
She wasn't sure why alarm had shot through her- but the idea of losing their soft, hopeful flickering flame before they'd even coaxed it brighter to see what heights it could reach felt like something she'd regret forever if she let him go.
Kagome stepped closer. "Not foolish. This is just really unexpected for me."
Golden eyes roved over her face questioningly.
"The colour of love is different for humans, so it never even crossed my mind that THAT was what you've been struggling with. Jaken mentioned you were displaying for a female but- wow," she murmured, gentling. "Thank you... for telling me. No one's ever said that to me before."
Sesshoumaru's expression warmed, just a touch. He inclined his head slightly and Kagome felt an odd flutter in her belly.
"I'm not in the same place as you emotionally but- if- if you'd want to try this human thing called 'dating' we could give it a shot and get to know each other better."
"Hn," Sesshoumaru gave her a considering look, and she almost thought he might decline before the ghost of a smile tilted up his lips. "What is 'dating?'"
Kagome's face burst into a grin, and she took his clawed hand. "You're gonna love it. It involves a lot of talking."
He gave a mock groan, aura glowing brighter.
Naturally, Shippo passed his test with flying colours. His sensei was particularly impressed by his observation of both human and inuyoukai emotions in particular.
He decided to use the spell on himself several months later, laughing and chasing Rin around the village, happy to see the yellow aura dancing around her. Something of note he noticed when rushing by was a certain miko and demon lord practising archery together in a field. As Kagome corrected his large stance, hand guiding his elbow down slightly as he aimed, the warm colours of pinkish red and magenta entwined, lacing like long, seeking fingers gently interlocking.

N4+Inukag Ex’s Still in Love @liz8080 its angst 🙃
It had been a year since the break up, but Inuyasha was no closer to moving on and according to his best friend, neither was Kagome. He only knew what his ex was going through because their best friends were caught in the middle and providing updates. Poor Miroku and Sango, Inuyasha was sure they thought he and Kagome were idiots by this point.
Not that it was from a lack of trying, because they both were trying... maybe a little too hard to start dating again. Inuyasha had tried the typical avenues like bar hopping and even posting a profile on dating sites. But if irony wasn’t such a bitch, every single site he tried would match him to none other than Kagome Higurashi. It was fate, Miroku would coax the idea onto his friend. Yeah, well fate didn’t have to deal with reality and they were two stubborn fools unwilling to relent.
At the bars, Inuyasha’s handsome hanyo looks gained a lot of attention and the night would always start off right. Every single woman in the place took a chance to talk to him. If he liked what he saw, he’d give them a shot to butter him up, lulling them in with his molten amber eyes. Flirty conversations and flowing alcohol made for... women making excuses and leaving him to walk out single. Every. Damn. Time. Because something always sparked his ex’s introduction to the conversation. It turned out once Inuyasha was past the tipsy stage, all he wanted to do was talk about Kagome. Good or bad. It didn’t matter and according to Miroku during one very drunken evening, he’d even cried. If it wasn’t for the blackmail video, he wouldn’t have believed it.
Okay fine! So he still loved the woman! They’d been together for seven years, that’s not something you just get over quickly! She wanted kids and he was hesitant... it wasn’t a no, but it wasn’t a yes. That’s when Kagome broke up with him.
Inuyasha swirled the drink in his hand with a low growl. “You know our world isn’t always safe,” he admonished his co-worker, a fellow Yokai named Kouga. “And she’s human, the child could be born human, and what if I can’t protect them both?”
“Stupid,” the Wolf yokai sneered back. “You’d lose the woman you love over fear? The Taisho’s son showing weakness, that’s pathetic.”
“Bite your tongue wolf. It’s not just about fear and you know it.”
“Yes, it is.” Kouga countered. “Modern times or not, that woman has spiritual blood coursing through her veins, so an offspring will most likely be a full hanyo. I suspect Kagome senses this, so it is your own fears that’s overruling you.”
“Tch, I didn’t come here for a lecture!” Inuyasha stood up from his bar stool. But as he turned to leave, his phone rang.
It was Miroku. “Something happened Inuyasha. Kagome was attacked on her way home by a yokai. No one knows who. She’s been taken to Shinkon Medical and she’s... in a coma.”
“What?!”
“It’s really bad, you should get here as soon as possible.”
Inuyasha doesn’t respond and quickly rushed out of the bar with Kouga hot on his heels.
“What’s going on?!” Kouga questioned.
“Something attacked Kagome.”
“Oh, fuck.” Kouga could see Inuyasha’s demon side manifesting, purple stripes along his cheeks and red eyes replacing gold. It must be serious.
When they arrived at the hospital, Miroku took them up to the room Kagome was in. Not that Inuyasha needed his help to track the woman’s scent, but thanks to Kouga’s steadfast hand in his shoulder, he stayed cognizant enough to follow quietly so as to not scare the staff. Sango stood just outside of the door ready for their arrival.
“Brace yourself Inu,” the woman warned, “she’s... it’s a miracle she’s still alive.”
He simply nodded shakily and walked through, leaving his friends to wait. There really was no way to brace himself for what he saw. Kagome was almost unrecognizable. She had tubes and wires hooked up to beeping machines that flashed her life on a screen. It was an unnerving sound in an otherwise deadly silent room. Her arms were all bandaged up, one leg in a cast with pins and metal sticking out, but her head... his fists clenched tighter. Her forehead was wrapped in gauze, face bruised and swollen, her nose and mouth with tubes coming out of them to keep her alive. Even in the dim lighting, he could see the blood, smelled the dried blood stuck in her hair.
It was his nightmares turned reality.
That’s when he smelt it, the lingering stench of a familiar panther yokai left on Kagome’s body. Had this been a targeted attack? Anger surged to the forefront. Inuyasha leaned down and took her hand gently while placing a soft kiss on her forehead. Regardless of reason, this yokai would pay dearly!
Inuyasha growled and sped off faster then any of his stunned friends could stop him, out of the hospital. Kouga called from behind in pursuit, but his demon side had taken over and nothing could stop him. He leapt over buildings, speeding through alleyways before humans could even register what had passed them by. There was no way to know exactly where the rogue could be, but he had a territory to start in.
The panther yokai had always hated the inu’s reign over the central part of Japan. They fought and lost an epic battle during the edo period, forever retaining a grudge. But this was a brazen attack, the first since those long ago days, and on a human?! It was unforgivable. It was because of the inu’s control that the human world was safe from the yokai inhabiting it. Most of the other’s, like Kouga’s wolf clan fell in line without any problems, and peace remained. Oh, this panther will pay dearly for trying to kill the chosen mate of the Inu no Taisho’s son!! This wasn’t the first time the two men will clash, but it will be the last.
From a rooftop, Inuyasha perched as he quickly scanned the dock area. The yokai was alone. Perfect. With a deep roar, he dropped down on top of the male before it could take off. Claws and fangs unhinged as the two males battled. Despite being a hanyo, Inuyasha’s blood was no different than a full-blooded yokai, and worse, his adrenaline and anger was without remorse due to the bloodied images of his girl lying in a hospital bed to fuel his rage. If there were any humans in this desolate part of town at night, it must have sounded like the unholy blood bath it was.
Over and over, Inuyasha tore his claws and teeth into the panther yokai’s flesh. Though he sustained some injuries of his own, Inuyasha felt nothing but the pure hatred coursing through his veins. Kouga had finally arrived as well, his screams to his friend to stop, deaf in his ears. His blood lust had taken control.
“Stop!!” Kouga roared and jumped onto Inuyasha’s back. He hooked his arms around both of his friends shoulders, lifting, and wrapping his hands behind the man’s head to restrain them from moving freely. Inuyasha thrashed hard against the hold, but Kouga refused to let go, continuously growling at the man to stop resisting. “You’re gonna kill him!”
“He deserves it!” Inuyasha countered.
“Agreed! But that’s not for you to decide my friend, so stop! He’s done!”
“Let me go Kouga!”
“Only if you’ll stop resisting. Think about Kagome, idiot! I’ll take the panther to your father for punishment, you need to get back to her!”
At hearing Kagome’s name, the human side of Inuyasha began taking back control from his inner demon. Kouga was right. If they were caught like this by authorities, being thrown in jail for murder would do her no good. Inuyasha let out a long exhale as his body slowly transformed back to normal, and he slumped in his friends arms. “You’re right.”
“I know I am, idiot.” Kouga let him go. “Now get out of here, and make sure you clean up! You don’t wanna scare the hospital people to death!”
“Yeah, yeah,” the hanyo growled, though he appreciated his friends help. “Tell my dad what’s going on and I’ll contact him as soon as I can.”
“Will do.”
It didn’t take him long to get back to his own house to clean up, and it was only then did Inuyasha realize just how far he’d gone that night. What little of his clothes was left undamaged was soaked in the blood of the panther yokai. He threw it all away and showered the filth from his body, then bandaged his wounds as best he could. By morning they’ll probably be healed, but with the adrenaline gone, the pain had also kicked in. He’d still do it all again in a heartbeat.
When he shambled back to the hospital, of course Miroku and Sango were concerned with his appearance. He assuaged their worries before flopping painfully into a chair at Kagome’s bedside.
“The doctors say she has stabled,” Sango explained now that he had time to listen. “But the shock has left her in a coma, so now we can only wait for her to wake up...” the woman paused, “there’s a small chance, Kagome may never wake up.”
Inuyasha shook his head refusing to entertain such a suggestion. “She’s strong, I know she will,” he spoke even though inside he wasn’t so sure. He just needed to hear those words of reassurance.
“You’re right.” Sango agreed. “We think so too.”
“Hang in there.” Miroku patted the hanyo’s shoulder. “We’ll be back in the morning to check on you.”
“Thanks,” Inuyasha nodded weakly.
Now that he was there, the couple left him alone, safe in the knowledge that no one would bother Kagome anymore. So, at the sound of the door closing behind him, the full weight of emotions engulfed Inuyasha. The guilt tore away at what little sanity held him together. He blamed himself for her state. If he hadn’t been so stupid and stubborn to leave her alone, that panther would never have dared to strike at Kagome. She was strong, but couldn’t have fended off a surprise attack by herself.
“I’m so sorry,” the tears broke free as he held her hand tightly in his own. “Please don’t leave me, Kagome. I’ll do anything! You want kids? I’ll give you all the pups you desire, just please come back to me. I can’t— I can’t lose you. It shouldn’t have taken something like this to make me realize that I’m nothing without you.”
Inuyasha thought the pain of losing his mother at a young age was hard, but this was a thousand times worse. His soul was bonded to Kagome by choice and his heart felt shattered at the thought of never hearing her voice again. If she died, a piece of him would die along with her.
Night turned to day, and days passed by with little to no change in Kagome’s condition. Inuyasha rarely left her side, except to take care of bodily functions or shower at the behest of friends and staff. Her family, his family, and their friends visited, but at night it was just her and him alone between the stale white walls of the hospital room. For two weeks, Inuyasha didn’t get a full night sleep. Exhaustion forced him to pass out at times, only to be awaken by nightmares. To suffer along side Kagome was his penitence as far he believed.
He clung to the smallest of improvements. By week three, all the bruising and abrasions were healing well, and Kagome was taken off of the breathing tubes since she was doing it on her own. She was still fed intravenously with a high protein diet to give her body the fuel it needed to mend. To pass the time, Inuyasha would talk to her about everything and nothing, sometimes telling her stories of ancient tales, or just reading the newspaper aloud. The doctors had told him coma patients can sometimes hear them talking, so it was worth a shot.
“It’s crazy right?” Inuyasha chuckled if only to keep his sanity intact. “I’d give anything to hear you yell at me right now.” He sighed. “Just call me an idiot, because I deserve it.”
“You’re not... an idiot.”
Inuyasha sat up stunned at the beautiful sound of Kagome voice. It was soft and raspy, but music to his ears nonetheless. He squeezed her hand. “Yes, I am,” he smiled. “But it’s okay, as long as I still have you— if you’ll still have... me? I’ll give you what ever you want, Kagome. Kids, anything, just please stay with me. I love you too much to let you go again.”
This time it was Kagome who squeezed his hand weakly. “I love you too, you big idiot.”
Inuyasha leaned over and kissed her forehead. “Now there’s the woman I fell in love with.” Everything was gonna be just fine...

ɪɴᴜʏᴀꜱʜᴀ x ᴋᴀɢᴏᴍᴇ | ᴘᴏꜱᴛ-ᴄᴀɴᴏɴ | ɴꜱꜰᴡ (ꜱᴍᴜᴛ)
summary: She'd been teasing him all day, and she knew it. Those fleeting glances and knowing smiles, it drove Inuyasha insane; not to mention she smelled sweeter, more intense. What happens when Kagome pushes Inuyasha beyond his limits? One-shot.
It had started with a simple, slow, wet kiss to the pulse point on his neck before they left the house and words that seemed to hint towards more. That alone would have been enough to have the silver-hair hanyou take control of the situation and allow them to give into their more primal desires. If it wasn't for the knowledge that Kagome had promised to do an archery lesson with Rin before her own miko training, he would have happily allowed them to be a little late. The scent of her made that even more difficult than usual, as he knew exactly why it had changed slightly - why her behaviour was much more sensual than normal. It wouldn't be wise to act upon his urges, not if she didn't want to be pupped, but, of course, his wife was making it extremely difficult to keep a level head.
He'd scolded her on the way to the village, calling her out on her intentions, "What're you playin' at?" All he got in return was a cheeky shrug, not even giving him the decency of making eye contact as she did so.
"It was just a kiss, Inuyasha - don't look into it so much," it was obvious she was trying to rile him up, and boy did she know how to do so better than anyone.
Judging by the very low, primal growl that left her husband shortly after, she knew her tactic was working, "You know exactly what you're doing, woman." The hold on her hand tightened, tempted to stop them and make her look at him, but was stopped by the sound of Gyokuto calling out and bringing attention to their presence.
"Doggy!" she shouted, having Sango turn around with little Hisui bundled up in her arms, "Hi uncle Doggy! Hi auntie 'gome!" Gyokuto repeated as she began to make a b-line towards the pair.
Inuyasha released Kagome's hand then, as reluctant as he was to do so - all he wanted to do right now was drag her back to their hut and show her who was in charge. It was only when the warmth of his hand left her that she looked up at him, only then seeing the glint of irritation and flustered need in those amber orbs of his. Satisfied with herself, she waved back to the small girl running towards them, leaving Inuyasha to bend down and pick her up. Adjusting the small girl to rest on his hip, he followed his wife towards Sango and Miroku's home.
"Gyokuto, remember what we agreed on?" the hanyou asked, immediately seeing the small girl's hands reaching upwards to the ears perched on his head. Though, when he spoke, he saw her immediately stop, pulling her hands back into her chest.
"No touching," she murmured, disappointment dripping from her tone, as high-pitched as it was, "Not unless uncle says so," she added, Inuyasha nodding in confirmation as he reached his claw-tipped finger out to push on her nose playfully.
"That's right - and I haven't had breakfast yet, so now isn't a good time," he added, the 'boop' to the nose having Gyokuto give a high-pitched giggle as she once again nodded in understanding. All the while, Kagome was standing with Sango, watching her husband interact with the child with a sense of whimsey. The way he looked holding such a small being, and acting so gentle and paternal, it had her only more needy from that morning. It seemed her husband had picked up on the spike in her scent, gaze quickly flitting towards her before narrowing his gaze.
That woman's gunna be the death of me...
Breakfast was normal enough, the four friends conversing as they typically did as they indulged in a simple meal of fish, rice and pickles. Though, it became obvious that Inuyasha's answers were more curt than usual and, when it came time for the men and women to go their separate ways, Inuyasha almost seemed desperate to get out into the fresh air. His goodbye was short and sweet, telling the girls to be careful, as he normally did out of habit.
Her smell had enveloped the whole room to him, like a heavy perfume that he couldn't shake, no matter how hard to tried to focus on something else. Not to mention her fleeting glances and teasing mannerisms that weren't obvious to anyone but him. Like how she gently dragged her finger over her collar bone as she adjusted her kosode, or stretched her head to the side enough to show her throat, only to quickly do the other side to make it less inconspicuous.
When he finally made it outside, she felt like he could finally focus on something other than her; think of something other than pinning her to the futon and fucking her until she begged him to stop.
"Inuyasha sure seems wound up today - you two have a fight?" Sango finally asked when the men were gone and out of earshot. Hisui was happily babbling to himself as Sango held him against her chest, gently rocking him and patting his back with the intent to burp him.
The sight of Sango being so domestic had been one she needed to get used to, having become accustomed to seeing her in such a fierce and formidable position and demeanor. Though, after a year of being back, Kagome realized how well being a mother suited the demon-slayer. The young miko could recall a time when Sango had mentioned she wanted a big family someday, little did either of them know it would be with Miroku.
"A fight?" the question left her slightly thoughtfully, as if she needed to actually take a moment to think about it. Lifting a finger to her lip, she tapped them softly while looking upward before answering, "Mmm, no. Not fighting." With her gaze averted upward, she couldn't see Sango's questioning look - she wasn't blind.
"Then what is it? The only time I've ever seen Inuyasha this desperate to start his day is if he's irritated," another pause was left after her final word, seeing Kagome feign innocence - if Kagome was anything, it was not a good liar, "What are you not telling me? C'mon Kagome, you can tell me." Sango had always thought of Kagome like a sister and never so much as she did since the young miko had come back. It was nice to finally have a woman who understood, not only what she had been through, but her as a person.
How was she supposed to say this? What words were the right ones to explain what she had been doing all morning, "Uhm...I guess you could say I've been," she shrugged while speaking her next words, "Riling him up?"
It took Sango all of two seconds to understand, eyes widening before she released a very real laugh, "That poor guy," she managed to say between bouts of laughter, "That makes much more sense," she added, wiping away a tear from her eye as she finally managed to get her laughter under control.
"Does Miroku act like that - y'know, when you-"
"Kind of, but Inuaysha and Miroku are very different, especially when it comes to women. It wouldn't be fair to really compare them; however, you could say Miroku gets pretty flustered, yes," Sango then offered her friend a very wide, genuine and amused smile, "How far are you willing to push it?"
Kagome shrugged in response, a flush now on her face from both embarrassment and sharing that large fit of laughter with Sango, "As far as he'll go, to be honest. Does that make me mean?" Leave it to the ever compassionate Kagome to turn it into something she could worry over. The scoff from Sango, paired with a flippant flick of her wrist gave Kagome some reassurance.
"I wouldn't worry about him - if anything, I'm sure he's enjoying it to some extent; besides," Sango began, leaning closer to Kagome with a knowing look on her face, "You gotta keep things exciting, right?"
With wide eyes, Kagome was shocked by Sango's statement, only to have them soften and her expression change to that of playfulness, "You're husband is rubbing off on you," she stated, Sango chuckling as she leaned back, shrugging her shoulders.
"It's bound to happen, there are things Inuyasha does that have rubbed off on you, I'm sure."
"Keh, ya right!" The second the statement left her mouth, she covered it with both hands, eyes wide once again at the realization that she had just proven the demon-slayer's point. Another fit of laughter left the young mother, "It's not funny!" Kagome tried to combat, though both of them knew just how funny it truly was.
The men walked off in silence for a good while, Miroku trying his best not to probe his friend for answers to the many burning questions that arose from that morning. Staff jingling, the two walked farther into town, having offered to help the headman with gathering a list of things he needed from the market days. Inuyasha remained tense, hands shoved into his sleeves as it seemed his ears were working harder than they normally did, twitching at any and all sounds, from the laughter of villagers to a snap of a twig beneath his foot. The hanyou wasn't oblivious, feeling the tension between the two of them and knowing full well that Miroku knew something was up. A grunt left him, side-eyeing the monk before breaking the silence, "If you got somethin' to say, than say it."
As cool as ever, Miroku wasn't affected by the edged tone his friend carried within that question; instead, he didn't even look towards his counterpart as he spoke, "I'm only curious as to what has got you so pensive, Inuyasha. You've been on edge since this morning."
Inuyasha turned his gaze to the ground, growling under his breath, though it was mostly towards himself for being so predictable, "It's nothing, alright? So, just drop it." That did not help his case, Miroku only more curious now, knowing his friend much better than most.
"Does it have something to do with Lady Kagome?" Miroku couldn't help but prod, having gotten rather good at drawing at least some intimate details from the hanyou - not much, but some, "A happy wife makes a happy life, my friend. Remember that." He could only assume that this behaviour meant that himself and Kagome had found themselves in another one of their notorious arguments. Even after almost a year of marriage, it seemed their bickering never changed.
"What's that supposed to mean?!" The hanyou snapped, stopping in his tracks to make a more defensive stance towards the monk, "Yeah, it has something to do with her, but not like that! I said drop it, alright?!" The volume of his voice was high, causing Miroku to stop in his tracks as well, turning to his hanyou friend as they stood just off to the side of the main rice fields. Luckily, not another soul was around, at least not for a good distance.
"Then what is it? If she's not angry at you, then what else could it be that's making you so-" then it hit him, eyeing his friend before his lips pulled into a grin. Inuyasha's eyes widened, taking a step back from Miroku - he hated that look.
"What? Why are you looking at me like that?" Now it was Inuyasha's turn to ask the questions, it seemed.
"That little minx..." he mused before fully smiling at his friend, "She's teasing you, isn't she?" The amount of discomfort Inuyasha felt in that moment, the flush of his cheeks giving way any sort of resolve he could muster in an attempt to convey confidence. Miroku gave a slight huff of amusement, "Enjoy it my friend, only good things will come of it."
As if the conversation had never taken place, Miroku made his way towards the headman's house, leaving an extremely stunned Inuyasha behind to try and completely register what he had just experienced.
After the archery lesson with Rin, Kagome made her way to Kaede's hut, spending the rest of the day with her in training the way of the miko. Yet, Kaede immediately noticed that her young pupil was rather distracted. Perhaps not in the way that was obvious to some, but Kagome had much difficulty tapping deep enough within herself to draw out any sort of spiritual power. Kaede let it be for the day, knowing that some days would be more successful than others, and by the time the sun began to go down, she'd dismissed Kagome from her training. However, before letting her go, the old priestess made one small comment, "Goodnight, Kagome. Hopefully tomorrow your mind will be more clear than it was today." Kagome stiffened at the statement, blushing softly before giving a slight nod of apology and understanding.
Upon leaving the hut, she immediately saw Miroku and Inuyasha standing outside of it, speaking with another villager about something Kagome frankly couldn't care less about in that moment. Gaze lingered on her husband, only to have his attention be mirrored; she could see how he clenched his jaw that he hadn't forgotten about that morning. There was a hunger in his gaze that had a shiver run up her spine - and though they would be headed to Sango and Miroku's for dinner, she knew he wasn't hungry for food and neither was she.
"Oh, hello lady Kagome!" the villager spoke, bringing the young priestess out of her husband's trance to see him bowing.
Kagome returned the gesture with a small smile, "Tanaka-san, hello. Nice to see you. What are you talking about?"
"Tanaka was just talking about how one of his cows got loose and was asking if any of us had seen it," Inuyasha stated rather bluntly, hands folded in his sleeves.
"Uh, well - yes. If you see her, I'd be very grateful. This is the second time this year," Tanaka stated before Miroku placed a hand on the villager's shoulder, guiding him in the direction towards the center of the village, where Sango and Miroku's house was. It left the young couple alone for the first time since that morning.
When he knew they were out of earshot and no one else was around, his ears not picking up on any other footsteps or voices, he reached a clawed hand out to grip his wife's chin a bit more harshly than he was sure she was expecting. That theory was proven when he heard her gasp, looking up at him with slight shock, "Still planning on continuing whatever the hell it was you were doing this morning?"
Remaining in his grasp, she gave a look of that same feigned innocence for that morning. Gripping his wrist, she tilted her head down enough to nip at his thumb, "I don't know what you're talking about," she sang after releasing his thumb and seeing an ever growing desire in her husband.
His yokai was strong, potent, but flared even more so as a result of her teasing. A growl soon followed, emanating from deep in his chest, primal and filled with a heated need. His hand moved from her chin to her neck, holding her throat as he peered down at her, "You're lucky they're expecting us, or else I'd have half a mind to pull you behind a tree and take you right here..." That statement had a heat pooling between her thighs, leaning into the dominant hold on her throat, foretelling just what awaited her once they made it home for the night. The sudden spike of her scent had Inuyasha losing some of his resolve, leaning forward to capture her lips in a domineering kiss - all tongue and teeth, drinking in at least enough to tide him over until they got home.
When the kiss ended, he peered down at his wife, seeing her eyes half-lidded and seemingly in a daze. Not taking his hand from her throat, he leaned forward, resting his forehead against hers. With a soft, but very rugged tone, he planned to leave her with one statement before they carried on and made their way to dinner, "When we get home, I'm gunna ruin you. Am I clear?" Such a bold and dominant statement had Kagome releasing an involuntary whimper.
"Uh-huh..."
A smirk formed on the hanyou's face, a fang hanging over his bottom lip as he did so, "Good girl." Kagome's breath hitched in her throat at those words, never thinking that Inuyasha would be capable of being so bold, always rather subdued when it came to their intimate time beneath the sheets. Those two words had her clenching her legs together, as if to relieve some of the pressure built up between her thighs. The fact that he was doing this out in the open too, it only added another element of excitement to everything else - she must have pushed him farther than she'd anticipated.
And just like that, he pulled from her, releasing her neck and taking a half step away from her. She'd almost fallen then, suddenly void of his touch and strength to keep her from her knees buckling completely beneath her. The hanyou couldn't help but smirk, simply reaching out a hand for her to take as they finally made their way to Sango and Miroku's house.
Dinner was a little less awkward, especially since Inuyasha had let off some steam with himself and Kagome's moment before meeting up with their friends. Kagome, however, seemed to have switched places with her husband, though she was much, much better at hiding it. Both Sango and Miroku gave each other knowing looks, having an unspoken conversation between the two of them when Kagome and Inuyasha weren't looking or were too invested in their food to notice. After indulging in some rice wine after dinner, the couples finally parted ways, the friends saying a much more comfortable goodbye, even though Inuyasha was eager to take his mate home.
Preparing to walk home, Kagome took her husband's hand, only to have him crouch down to indicate for her to climb on. Doing as she was told, she climbed onto his back and, without a second of hesitation, they were off.
Touching down in front of their home, Kagome climbed from her husband's back. Walking though the entryway, she took off her shoes and left them in the dirt at the front entrance. Inuyasha stood and watched as she headed inside, preparing himself for what he had planned, for what his primal self couldn't seem to hold back for much longer.
Walking in after her, he acted as though he hadn't made the promise, the tension building exponentially the longer the two of them refused to acknowledge it. Inuyasha grabbed some wood for the fire, easily starting it and granting some light and warmth to their home. Kagome rolled out the futon and straightened out the bedding, knowing that they would probably end there at some point in the night. Neither of them said anything as they went about their typical nightly routine, Kagome even going as far as undressing to put on her sleeping yukata. All the while, she could sense a golden gaze following her every move, or at least two ears twitching to keep track of her.
As she was about to head back out to the main room, she was stopped by a flash of silver. A claw-tipped hand found its place back on her throat, but this time it forced her against a wall. Kagome had enough time to take in a deep gasp before reaching up to grip her assailant's wrist. Before she could take too many more breaths, his lips were on hers, seeming to continue the one he'd given her back in the village. It held the intent to claim and conquer, Kagome rewarding her husband with a very real whimper of need, "Inuyasha-"
She was cut off by him pulling away from her, though not moving his hand from her throat, followed by the sudden sound of cracking. Biting down on the claws of his index and middle finger, he spat them out on the ground before diving into what he'd planned. He didn't want to have to worry about being careful with her, not this time around.
Running his fingers between her thighs, he wasn't obstructed by the typical panties she still tended to wear - an old habit from her time. A smirk passed over his features, immediately greeted by the feel of her need, slick and practically dripping. Just that simple touch had her crying out in need, back arching against the wall as he began to circle her clit, "Mmm, what's this, wife? Needy are we?" he teased, finally able to get some revenge on her for tormenting him the whole day.
Kagome released another affirmative whimper, "Inuyasha, please..." she gasped before feeling him take his fingers from her, only to lick them clean with a low hum of satisfaction.
"Please what?" he asked, eyeing her as he gently squeezed on her throat, not enough to obstruct her airway, but enough to make her slightly lightheaded. With deep mahogany eyes rolling to the back of her head, she pushed her hips forward.
"I want-I need-" sentences became difficult to create, mind hazy from the lust that coated it, paired with her husband's hand on her throat.
Shaking his head, he released his hold on her, causing Kagome to take in a deep breath and release it with a slight cough. With some worry, Inuyasha leaned his head forward, resting their foreheads against one another as if to comfort her. In return, Kagome lifted her hands to his cheeks, as if to tell him she understood.
That fleeting moment of tenderness was over just as it began with Inuyasha pulling at the obi of her yukata, letting it fall open before he leaned forward to press wet, biting kisses to her neck and collarbone. Reaching below her thighs, he easily lifted her off the ground as if she were weightless, only to push her harder against the wall. Out of instinct, Kagome wrapped her arms around his neck, only to just realize that he wasn't wearing his haori or kosode. The warmth of his bare flesh almost seared her, making all of the experience just that much more intense.
"I'm gunna breed you," the low tone of her husband's voice entered her ears and sent a shiver down her spine. Before she could even get a hold of those words, he felt the wetness of his tongue lick a stripe up her throat, nipping at her jawline as he released one of her thighs. She barely noticed as he loosened his hakama, letting it fall to his mid thigh and releasing his achingly hard cock, thick and pulsing with need.
Gripping it, he pressed his head against her opening, guiding it just enough before he thrusted up and into her. It as seamless and easy, her pussy wet and waiting for him.
The sudden entry had Kagome almost scream in surprise and relief from the knowledge that she finally got what she wanted - what she had been aching for. Arching into him, Kagome let her head fall back and rest against the wall, realizing her husband was wasting no time with a slow build up. Each thrust was deep and hard, drawing deliciously desperate sounds from his wife - his mate. There were cries of euphoria, holding his name within them as he continued to pound into her, keeping her pinned against the wall.
"Inuyasha- oh, Kami, yes!" she whined, her voice sounding slightly strained before he hit a particularly sensitive spot within her, "Fuck!"
If he'd been in any other state of mind, he would have halted right then and there, having only ever heard his wife use that expletive once or twice in their time together. He tried to hit that spot again and seemed to do so, the grip of her nails digging into his shoulders giving him the indication. His head dug into the crook of her neck, allowing her to run her fingers through his hair and inch towards his ear.
Before she could grab one, the hanyou pulled his head away, glaring up at her with his teeth bared, "Don't you fuckin' dare," he warned. The viciousness behind it startled Kagome for a brief moment, though the sight of him being so dominant only brought her more excitement. Putting her hand back on his shoulder, she bit down on her lower lip, only to release another needy cry when he hit that spot within her once again.
She was careening closer and closer to the edge, a whimper leaving her before she managed to form the words, "I'm-uhn! I'm so close!" Just as she thought she would be falling over the edge, he pulled his cock from her completely, causing a desperate sob to leave her, devastated at the fact that he was just that cruel, "No! Inuyasha, please!" she begged, only to feel her being pulled from the wall and laid down on the futon, his body hovering over her.
Gripping her chin, he made sure their gazes met as he spoke, "You don't get to cum - not until I say," he snarled lowly, keeping his cock from her still - an opportunity to catch his own bearings. The last thing he wanted was to find his own climax too early, "Think of it as payback for teasing me all day."
Kagome's jaw hung open, practically writhing beneath him in protest as she tried to push her hips up against his own, "No - please. Kami, I'm so close, Inuy-aaah!" Before she could finish her sentence, he'd entered her again, moving to pin both of her hand above her head, held down by only one of his own as the other reached down to push her thigh up against her stomach in an attempt to get deeper within her.
He could see the way her body reacted to his thrusts, how her breasts bounced and her pussy clenched around him as she drew closer to her climax once again. Having seen her cum plenty of times throughout their year together, Inuyasha knew the telltale signs. She got quiet for a bit, as if her mind was trying to concentrate on nothing but the pleasure she would be feeling. When he noticed that start to happen, he pulled his cock from her once again, both of them panting heavily as Kagome gave another desperate sob, "You're cruel," she hiccupped, only to feel the crushing lips of her husband's on her own, as if trying to make her stop talking.
Ending the kiss with a bite to her lower lip, he released her wrists and straightened himself, pulling the leg he had pushed back up to rest on his shoulder. With that leverage, he could get deeper, beginning his thrusts once again, after he'd figured she'd had enough time to come down. Turning his head, he dragged his fangs over her calve, seeing her place a finger in her mouth as if to keep herself from getting too loud - as if she hadn't been practically screaming since they started.
She looked absolutely wrecked already, lips swollen and cheeks flushed; the look in her eyes made it seem like she was completely lost in their fucking. Hair was a mess, tousled over the futon and sticking to her neck as a sheet of sweat coated her body, "Fuck, Kagome" he hissed, "You're already looking wrecked." There was little fight left in her, he could tell - but he wasn't done with her yet.
The view from where she lay was enough to have her meet her end right then and there, watching as Inuyasha's strong, defined stomach and pelvis moved easily, flexing the marble-esque muscle beneath his tanned flesh. If she looked up father, the view of his amber eyes, filled with the desire to claim and ruin her as he promised, made her feel as if he were devouring her. Only she got to see him like this - no one else. Not even Kikyo got to have him like this and, deep in some miniscule part of her, she was smug about it.
Before long, he pulled from her again, having witnessed the beginning of her end once again; she felt like her heart was going to leap out of her chest or explode - one of the two - when he stopped them.
Putting her leg down, he maneuvered her so she was one her stomach, "On all fours, bitch. Time to breed you proper," he commanded, smacking the side of her ass as if to emphasize his command.
"I-I don't know if I can," it was meek whimper as she tried to bring herself onto all fours. The best she could do was bring her back half to its knees, ass up in the air; that was more than he needed. Gripping her hip, he held his cock in his free hand before guiding it back into her swollen, aching pussy. Again, he started his vicious rhythm, pulling he hips back onto him as he pounded into her again and again.
"Fuck, I'm so close," he groaned, the words slightly choked as he looked down to watch himself enter her again and again, "I'm gunna fill you until you can't hold anymore," he snarled, reaching one hand down to grip her hair at the base of her neck, only so he could bring her up onto her arms. The sounds that left her were almost incoherent, eyes rolling into the back of her head as her jaw hung open.
"Inu...yasha...please," she sounded almost defeated, "Please let me-"
The strength of his hand against her throat helped keep her up, his body leaning over hers - their height difference was enough for him to have his face hover over her own. Pressing a bruising kiss to her lips, he snarled at her, "Cum for me, wife." It was curt and simple, but it was enough to have Kagome's entire body tremor as her pussy clenched around his cock. A long, high-pitched cry, almost a scream, left her as she finally found her release.
It was only two thrusts later that the hanyou bottomed out within her, spilling his seed into her in ropes as he rested his head against the space between her shoulder blades. Deep, long groans left him, mixed with grunts and some snarls, thrusting his hips slightly before he felt himself go slightly limp.
He could hear the way she panted heavily, how her heart pounded in her chest and see just how boneless she'd become. Shivering a few times as he came down from the original wave of euphoria, he pulled from her. Rolling her onto her back, he crawled over top of her, cupping her cheek as he scanned her face. The gentle touch of her own hand on his reassured him, but he couldn't help but ask, "You okay?" Kagome could only giving him a smile and a nod in return, lung gasping for air as they both came down from their incredible highs.
Collapsing beside her, he rolled onto his back as well, trying to catch his breath, "I should tease you more often," he heard her say between heavy breaths. Turning his head towards her, he saw her do the same, their gaze meeting with a sense of electricity, even after such a vigorous fuck. A breathy laugh left him then, a sign of agreeance before he managed to grab one of her hands and press a kiss to the back of it.
"You're gunna be out of commission for a couple days, so maybe not too often," he teased, Kagome releasing a giggle of her own, breathy and tired.
"I don't think I could move, even if I wanted to," she admitted honestly, her husband getting the hint and grabbing the covers after kicking off his hakama completely.
Maneuvering them, he brought her back against his chest, spooning against her; with a gentle kiss pressed to her shoulder, he could already hear a string of faint snores coming from her, "That was fast..." he mused before smiling to himself. Resting his head against a pillow, he squeezed her close against him before finding his own path into slumber.

InuKag Week 2020
Tumblr media
Some nice, fluffy moments for you in this chapter. As well as a lemon but ya know. Day Five of InuKag Week: Instinct. @inukag-week here is my contribution for today. Hope you all enjoy!
Thank you to all of you for reading and reviewing. It's nice to know where I stand on this fic.
Chapter 5 of 8  1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8
Instinct
It took a year and a half but frankly, I was surprised it took that long. I may be inexperienced but I'm not an idiot and I know how these things work. When I missed a period, I wasn't even upset or confused. And the at-home and doctor's positive tests were just extra. I knew I was pregnant.
We didn't even try to be careful. Inuyasha never wore a condom and I wasn't on the pill. And we fucked constantly. With Inuyasha not even pulling out, I had to assume he didn't care if he knocked me up.
I still didn't say anything to him though. I didn't really know what to say. I wasn't his girlfriend or wife. We weren't even lovers we just had sex. I didn't know anything about him outside the house either.
I did know his moods. One glance and I knew what to expect. I knew his laugh, his tender touch, how he could be excruciatingly kind. How he was overprotective to an obnoxious amount sometimes, another good reason not to mention my pregnancy.
I had his dick memorized. How he liked it touched, licked, and sucked. And the slight curve it had and how it felt inside me. Inuyasha knew my weak points too, the spot on my shoulder, licking the inside of my thighs, how hard to suck my nipples or my clit.
I knew every inch of his body as he knew mine. Which made me wonder how long it would take him to notice? I said nothing, not even to the staff. But the cook noticed my change in appetite and the maid noticed my vomit in the bathroom.
The weather went from cold to hot again, passing the two-year mark and Inuyasha either didn't notice or was saying nothing. Even as I developed a little belly under my belly button. My clothes were getting tighter and the only thing Inuyasha had said about it was sending someone to get me new clothes.
I didn't tell him I was going out regularly to see my doctor but it was my only excuse to get out of the house. With my pregnancy showing, I couldn't even have Sango over. What would I tell her? I couldn't even find the words to tell Inuyasha!
Particularly irritated, I sat on top, grinding hard on Inuyasha's cock. Our nightly meetings had never changed and now without periods to break them up, they never faltered.
Inuyasha was lying still, his arms under his head watching me. There was no hiding it anyway and I no longer cared, one hand on his knee to steady my angle to get him deeper and the other on the peak of my swell as I rocked. The extra weight was a little uncomfortable without support in this position.
I was close to getting rid of my horny irritation, my orgasm beginning to start as I took out my frustrations on Inuyasha's penis. "You aren't...seeing anyone else?"
Now I was even more irate because Inuyasha's random question made my orgasm fly out the window. Coming to a stop, I righted myself on his pelvis and glared down at him. "Excuse me?!"
"You aren't seeing anyone besides me? Dating, fucking, sleeping with someone besides me?"
I rolled my eyes as hard as I could, making sure he could see it. Another thing I learned was Inuyasha's weak-ass communication skills. This was his way of asking me if the baby was his. Which only infuriated me.
"When? When the hell was I able to date or fuck anyone but you?!"
As skillfully as I could at six months pregnant, I swung my leg and myself off of him. He hissed as the cold air hit his dick, losing my warmth and my wetness which only made it cooler. Grabbing my robe off the floor where I left it, I tried to be clothed for this fight. I felt less intimidating naked.
Inuyasha didn't move save for pushing up on his elbows to follow my movements. "Maybe when you worked at the club?!"
Crossing my arms to sit on my chest and small bump, I glared at him hard. "I'd already given birth if it was someone from there. The kid would be at least a year old by now!"
"I know that!" He screeched.
"Then why did you ask?!"
"Maybe it's when you sneak out of here a few times a month?! Did you really think I wouldn't notice?!"
I was shocked because I sincerely didn't think he had. Shutting my mouth, I quickly swept away my angry tears and tried to stop my shaking. "I'm going to see my OBGYN you ass hat! Not a lover! The only dick I've ever known is you!"
He didn't hesitate, continuing his rant right along with mine. "You shouldn't be going out, not even to see your doctor. Especially looking like that…"
Even though I swore I was over Inuyasha's need to keep me hidden away from the world, it now felt like an elephant sat on my chest from time to time when it was brought up. Now being one of those times. "Like what? Like a knocked up sex slave? If you are so ashamed or worried or whatever then maybe you should have worn a condom!"
"Maybe you should have gone on birth control!"
"When?! I'm not allowed to leave this fucking prison and they don't mail that shit to you!"
I was so angry the room was spinning and all I saw was red. I was trying to storm back to my room but for some reason, I was in Inuyasha's hold. "Kagome?! Are you alright?!"
My arms felt like jelly as I pushed at his hold. "I'm fine. Don't touch me. You've touched me enough!"
The room was still spinning and I was struggling to breathe. Then the room went from red to black.
oOo
"It's her blood pressure. It was way too high."
I woke to the sound of voices, in my bed, with Inuyasha and my doctor standing over me.
"High blood pressure? She's 23!"
"And pregnant. Pregnancy causes a lot of changes in a woman's body and sometimes it affects their blood pressure."
"What can I do?" I stared at Inuyasha, unknown by him as he looked and sounded like a scared little boy. "What can I do to keep them safe and healthy?"
I'd never seen Inuyasha like that, terrified and helpless. He'd always seemed sure and strong no matter what was going on. It was strange to see it now after two years. And a part of me was far too happy at his acknowledgment of the baby.
"Is she under a lot of stress? What was she doing when she fainted?"
Inuyasha shifted his weight, his arms crossed across his chest like when he wanted to protect himself. "We were...fighting. It's my fault."
I couldn't stand being spoken of anymore so I slowly sat up. My doctor was quick to my side but Inuyasha was quicker. "Whoa, now Kagome. You gave us quite the scare there. Let's take it easy, yeah?"
"I'm fine."
"Jesus, Kagome, listen to the damn doctor!"
Inuyasha was upset but I could tell it was partly out of fear and all at himself. Even if I hadn't heard their conversation. It all had me forgetting my earlier slights and irritations with the man now sitting near my legs on the bed.
Leaning over, I gently stroked his cheek and he greedily took the comfort. "It's okay. I'm okay, Inuyasha."
"It's not uncommon or even unhealthy for couples to fight. But maybe tone it down until after the baby is born?"
Inuyasha saw the doctor out, who promised to return for her next visit so I didn't have to come to her. Something Inuyasha must have set up while I was out. I was trying really hard not to be upset about it as Inuyasha returned to me.
Sitting in the same spot he had before, he looked me over carefully and thoughtfully. "You set up in-home visits with my doctor?!"
His eyes went to the floor but he still nodded his answer.
"Why is it so important to you…"
"Because you're important to me."
Anything and everything died in my throat. I had nothing to say to that. Inuyasha still wasn't looking at me, wringing his hands between his knees as he hunched over.
"My mother died when I was really young. She went out one day and never came back. My dad said it was his fault, that they killed her to get to him…"
"Who's they?"
He shrugged, "no clue but dad killed them in return. That's… all I really know about it."
I held my breath because now I'd learned a lot more about Inuyasha in a few shared words. His mother was murdered because of who his father is. Meaning not only did Inuyasha have overprotective tendencies that verged on obsessiveness but he came from a family that others wanted to hurt.
Inuyasha was rich and powerful.
Which meant he was either one of two things: mob or politician. Given his interests and investments, I'd have to guess mob. I was having a baby with a mob boss.
Oddly enough, it didn't bother me. Mob boss or not, Inuyasha was a nice guy to me. I'd never seen him do bad and so it was easy to ignore any misgivings. I struggled to imagine Inuyasha hurting anyone.
"Going to the doctor..it wasn't a big deal. I was safe. There was no harm and it was an excuse to go out…"
"Didn't you hear what I just said?! Someone killed my mother just to spite my father. For kicks, because they wanted to weaken him." Turning, Inuyasha showed me his angry eyes. They always looked like they were on fire when he was like this. "The people who want to hurt me, they'd take one look at your pregnant body and see Christmas. And they would have no struggle killing you and sending me the fetus."
I broke. It was all too much. Because I wanted to go out, to be normal and free. But Inuyasha was scaring me. So I wept, clutching my swollen body like a jewel that others were trying to steal.
Inuyasha clutched it just as hard, wrapping around me to either comfort me, himself, or both. "The house sits on five acres. There's a pool, tennis court, hell there's even a zen garden. All of it is yours. You can have Sango come over and spend time with you, I don't care. Just please, don't go out broadcasting our child around town for all to see."
oOo
I was relaxing in my bed when it started. Inuyasha was still at work since the day had barely begun. The book in my hands was not being read as my mind was miles away. Thinking about the night before.
Inuyasha and I had just had gentle but satisfying sex, he bent me over the bed so he didn't put weight on my belly while rubbing my clit as he throbbed inside me from behind. At my size, sleep was a struggle. I couldn't get comfortable. But sex always helped because it tired me out.
It must have been the baby that woke me, waking up exhausted to see her foot or hand trying to escape my uterus. I could actually see my skin rise as she pushed with all her might against her cage.
That didn't bother me in the slightest, I thought it was cool even though annoying. What had my mind tumbling even till morning was Inuyasha.
He rolled over to me and put his hand over my belly, gently rubbing the spot the baby had been pressing. "Shhhh...calm down or you'll wake mommy."
Inuyasha clearly had no clue I was already awake and I continued to be as he spoke to the baby through my belly.
"I'm excited to meet you too but it's not time yet and you and your mommy need to rest. You've been a bad girl lately, getting all wild whenever mommy tries to rest. That's not nice." I wasn't sure if it was his touch, voice, words, or all of it but the baby calmed back down and stopped her escape attempts. "That's a good girl, Moroha."
We hadn't discussed a name and yet, Inuyasha had one picked out already. I liked it. It was repeating in my head all day long. The entire 'conversation' was. The whole thing was so sweet, it brought me to tears each time I let my mind hear Inuyasha's voice as he spoke to my belly. With so few instances in which Inuyasha showed interest in our child, that one moment showed me just how much he wanted this baby. And it mirrored me.
But, as Inuyasha said, it was still early. Three weeks from my due date. Which was why I ignored the tensing of my muscles around my swollen belly and uterus. Even as they squeezed close to pain. I kept hoping it was Braxten Hicks and that they would go away.
So I said nothing, even when Inuyasha texted me midday to check on us. It was good he didn't call like usual, he always said I was a terrible liar, even on the phone.
When I didn't come out for lunch, it was brought to me. And of course, I had another contraction with the maid there. A big one. It was starting to seem as though these were the real deal. This only added to the fear in my veins, doubling over myself to try and take yet another contraction. This one felt as if my muscles were trying to pull me apart from the inside out. My only reprieve was that they weren't that close together yet. I had a good 30-minute break between each one.
Which timed it perfectly for when Inuyasha burst into my room.
"Kagome?!"
My open, in shock, mouth served to allow a loud whimper to escape as my muscles tensed and pulled at me. Curling into a ball did nothing but I did it anyway for some reason. A bodily reaction I had no control over.
Inuyasha was at my side when I opened my tear-filled eyes, kneeling on the floor next to my bed and brushing strands out of my face. Taking in his appearance, it was clear he had raced here straight from work. It was the first time I'd seen him with a tie on, he usually had it off by the time I saw him.
"You lied to me. You fucking lied, Kagome!" He was mad, even as he tenderly brushed my skin with the pads of his fingers. "The doctor is on her way. How far apart are your contractions?"
Getting over my shock at his apparent knowledge, I took a dry swallow, "30 minutes."
"Good, then there's still time." He got to his feet but kept his eyes on me. "I'm just going to go change, I'll be right back."
True to his word, I wasn't even close to another contraction when Inuyasha reappeared in some jeans and a t-shirt. Chuckling to myself, I wondered if he wore jeans just to keep from being in his usual 'let's fuck' outfit.
He helped me sit up but just as he did, another contraction hit. His hands still in mine, neither of us let go and he let me squeeze as hard as I could without so much a whimper of complaint. When I continued to push up to stand, he complained then.
"What are you doing?!"
"The doctor will be here soon...and my contractions are less than 30 minutes apart….I should take off my underwear…."
It was surprising how out of breath I was like I had been running when all I'd done was face an onslaught of pain every few minutes or so.
My legs were shaking so Inuyasha sat me back down on the edge of the bed and worked my panties off my hips for me. I giggled when he got them to my ankles, lifting my feet for him, and he looked up at me with a smirk. He already knew what I was thinking, how life was like a revolving door of sorts. The very act that caused the life about to be born, taking off my panties, was now being done again for a completely different and still the same reason.
Inuyasha remained crouched before me, his warm hands on my knees when another contraction hit. He shot up, his hands on my shoulders to steady me. I grabbed his shirt, gripping it and close to ripping it since his child was trying to rip out of me.
"Inu...yasha…"
"I got you. I got you, Kagome."
A dark laugh spilled out of me, a mixture of pain and hormones that had my emotions all over the place. "You got me...INTO THIS MESS...you damn well better….be here to GET ME OUT OF IT!"
I was panting but the contraction was over, Inuyasha still held me tight though. "Please don't call having my baby a mess. Besides, the real mess starts after the baby is born."
By the time the doctor arrived, my contractions had stalled. She kept checking but my cervix hadn't dilated past seven centimeters. Inuyasha was beginning to pace.
"Isn't there something we can do? The baby could be in distress!"
That made me nervous and Inuyasha cringed, stopping his little walk to sit beside me and hold my hand. The doctor said something to her nurse and then answered his question. "The baby is fine. We went over all of this when we prepped for a home birth. Remember?"
She was scolding him and if it were another time or place, I would have laughed. He was the one who pushed to have the baby at home, changing my birth plan completely. I wanted to have her in a hospital surrounded by doctors and people who knew what the fuck they were doing! But Inuyasha had his reasons.
"Sorry." He mumbled to her and to me.
Hours passed and finally, my labor started again. But I almost wished it hadn't. I thought the contractions were bad. No, pushing a six-pound person out of my vagina was worse. Things were tearing and all I could do was continue to push and tear more.
Inuyasha was still at my side, letting me squeeze whatever I wanted to death in payback. At one point I had grabbed his shirt and pulled him in close to hear me growl. "I knew you were going to ruin my vagina."
He smiled and I almost punched him so he tried to lean back but I held on tight. My brain flip-flopped with emotions and I found myself crying. Inuyasha thought it was pain, using his free hand to brush wet strands from my face and cup my cheek carefully. But it wasn't the pain exactly. It was something else. It was fear.
"I don't...I don't want to do this alone….I don't want to raise her on my own…" I sobbed.
Inuyasha glanced over at the doctor and then back at me. "You aren't alone. You'll never be alone, Baby."
It was strange, hearing a term of endearment from him but I was too wrapped up in the situation to care. More sobs ripped from me and they hurt all the way down to my aching vagina.
"When I first saw you," Inuyasha whispered in my ear, "...up on that stage; you were terrified but you didn't back down. It was your eyes, Kagome. Your bright teal eyes and I couldn't look away from you. I wasn't there to buy or anything. You were not my purpose that day. But I couldn't leave you. I still can't. I wish I could say I was sorry but I want you more and more each day, Baby, so I can't let you go."
His words had another sob come out with a whimper but he cut it off, kissing me sweetly and not caring about the others in the room.
"Alright, Kagome. One more big push."
oOo
The bassinet Inuyasha bought months ago had yet to be used. Mainly because I was too afraid to move Moroha after she fell asleep. The last thing I wanted was to wake her.
So she slept next to me. With one arm wrapped around her head and the other poised over her, I kept her safe and eventually got used to the uncomfortable position. At two months she was far from rolling but I still felt paranoid about it.
I don't think I had really slept since she was born. Or before then when my size made me too uncomfortable. It was why when the lightest touch came to my arm, I nearly jolted out of bed.
"Kagome.." Inuyasha whispered, standing over me and looking down at the two of us.
Going around, he removed my homemade cage and gently lifted tiny Moroha into his hands. She used to fit in just his hands alone, stretching across his palms as he held them together. But now he had to put her in the crook of his arm to carry her. I was overjoyed she was growing, so small when she was born I wept for days, but she was growing fast.
Now still asleep in her bassinet, Inuyasha slowly climbed into the bed next to me. On my side and him on his, we stared at one another for a few silent moments. Then we met halfway in a tentative embrace that quickly turned up the heat.
We were ripping clothes off without a thought. It had been a while and Inuyasha had been very patient. And patient still, his tip pressing to my entrance and freezing.
"Are you okay? Are you ready?"
He was frantic. Wanting to fuck but not wanting to hurt me and the two were colliding together at the moment.
I grabbed his ass, digging in my claws, and whispered in his ear. "Fuck me hard now."
Obeying my command, his tip hit my womb so fast it made us both dizzy. A few seconds of fast pumps and we both came. Which was the fastest either of us had ever finished and stars filled my room.
We were both still a little out of it, Inuyasha still hard and as deep inside me as he could go, when Moroha fussed a little beside us. Neither of us moved and I was sure we had no clue how much noise we had made during our fast and needy fuck.
When she settled back to sleep, Inuyasha turned his attention back to me. "I meant for the two of you to sleep in my room with me."
I shook my head at him. "She keeps me up most of the night. And you have to work in the morning."
His arms around me, he gave me a squeeze. "I want to have more."
"More sex?"
"No, I mean yes that too. I want to have more kids. With you."
"Easy for you to say. I'm the one that went through hell!"
"But you can't tell me it wasn't worth it."
Inuyasha was looking back at the bassinet while I was watching him. The glassy look in his eyes and the smile on his face. If I wasn't already in love with Moroha, blissfully happy with my life, and actually thinking about at least two more children then the look on Inuyasha's face right now would have changed my mind.
"Yes. It was worth it."
I feel as though having a baby is pretty instinctual. Not the wanting to have a baby part but the growing and birthing in general.

before  she  even  comes  close,  Inuyasha  can  hear,  smell  and  feel  the  miko’s  approach—  the  gentle  rustling  of  fabric  as  she  moves,  the  faint  floral  fragrance  she  carries  with  her,  and  the  light  vibrations  in  the  ground  with  each  soft  footfall  atop  the  vibrant  green  grass.   even  though  this  meeting  was  pre-arranged  between  the  two  of  them,  a  short  distance  outside  of  the  village  but  far  enough  not  to  spook  any  of  the  citizens  with  the  sighting  of  a  demon,  the  hanyō  doesn’t  turn  away  from  the  sprawling  view  of  the  lake  to  greet  her.
it’s  only  when  Kikyō  sits  down  beside  him  that  he  reacts,  shuffling  nervously  to  one  side  as  if  to  make  room,  although  there  is  already  plenty  of  lakeside  open  for  the  two  of  them.   those  hallmark  ears  twitch  nervously  atop  his  skull,  and  gaze  averts  to  his  unoccupied  side,  clearly  ill  at  ease  with  the  woman’s  presence—  but  hardly  unwelcoming.   he’d  never  been  alone  with  a  human  before …  not  like  this.

KIKYO FELT HIS ENERGY gently brushing against her senses as she approached the lake, and when he finally entered her eyesight she saw a small twitch of his ear, a movement so adorable it drew a small smile from her normally serious lips. However, as she came closer to him it came to her attention that his posture seemed tense, restless even. Perhaps, she mused, unused to being in contact with a human, or simply unnerved by the presence of a priestess.
ONCE AT HIS SIDE, SHE gracefully sat near him, close enough to show she was not afraid of him, but far enough to allow the hanyo plenty of personal space, lest he feel threatened or suffocated by her presence. She placed her bow next to her body, far from his person— an action she hoped would show she trusted him enough to keep her weapon away from them, a symbol of her not letting her position come between their interaction.

❝HELLO, INUYASHA.❞ HER VOICE was gentle, carefully so, mindful of his sensitive hearing and hoping her soothing tone would calm him somehow. She let him make the first move, to utter the first words and break what she thought to be a peaceful silence between them. Kikyo wanted him to be comfortable, and therefore resigned herself to follow his lead at his own pace. She would not push him or force him in any way.  ❝I thought you might not come today.❞

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 4.2 | 5 | 6 | 7 “It is said that a long time ago in the age of heroes — when Mother Earth was awake and the Gods walked among mortals — there was once a beast created by the Sun that fell in love with a great warrior.
Distressed that they could never be together as he was, the beast pleaded to the Moon, the guardian of lovers, for a body so he could properly court the warrior. The Moon, touched by the creature’s feelings, gave him what he wanted: it was marked by the magic, still retained a few of his feral features and, once a month, when the Moon wasn’t in it’s throne in the sky, he would return to his original form. It wasn’t perfect, for the Moon did not reign over Sun creatures. Still, they felt happy.
An evil spider, jealous of their love, cursed the warrior’s soul, rendering it fragile: if they bonded, her soul wouldn’t handle the guardian’s and she would disappear. Desperate, the guardian searched for the Moon once more, and this time he was bestowed a second gift that would spare her. But he was too slow, and came back to find out the spider, hearing about such gift, killed the warrior.
The ever loyal guardian waited for the warrior to be reborn, travelling around the world, gaining new names in each place he visited, only to find her. But years became decades, and decades became centuries, and she never came back.  And thus, the creature was forgotten, cursed into an eternity of loneliness.”
Rin would end the story with a dreamy sigh.
“Wouldn’t it be amazing to know someone out there loves you even before you’re born?? Like destiny” She looked at the sky and took a sip of her tea.
“I heard variations of that story in many places” Kaede said simply, looking at her own cup briefly before looking back at the younger girls. “Some say it was actually a giant white dog destined to fight an evil spider and there was never a love. Others have him be a fae or a demon, too.”
“Having various names doesn’t look like a good tactic to find someone if you ask me. Where even is this myth from, anyway? I heard many renditions of it from various countries.” Kagome chimed in “Even gramps had one of his own. He loved that thing. Said he even saw the beast when he was young, a huge white dog with a bark loud and scary like a lion’s roar.”
Kaede shook her head.
“folklore that show up collectively around the world - like vampire-like creatures, I suppose. Back home we would call it Inuyasha’s tale. He even had his own forest where people would claim to have seen him..There’s a temple there, now.” the old woman finished her cup and got up “Come on, let’s go back inside. We have a lot to do tomorrow.”
The two girls agreed and quickly finished what was left to go back into their tents and call it a night. Rin was soon asleep, but not Kagome. Five years ago, after getting accepted into Kaede’s program, she had been blessed with various opportunities to travel around the world to find and study new plants, and this time the team had travelled to the other side of the world in this pursuit.
Now, after two weeks stationated at a small camp near a friendly tribe, she saw herself turning around in her sleeping bag, restless. Dinner had been nice and they kept alive their little tradition of sharing tales around the fire before going to bed, but now It felt like all her senses were heightened somehow, and the forest’s music was almost unbearable. She could hear the crickets, nocturnal birds, an occasional shuffle in the vegetation somewhere or the wind blowing nearby, whistling the way almost as if daring her to follow.
It was too hot inside the tent to sleep, she rationalized, so better do something useful and walk a little to tire the body. She wouldn’t even venture that far - she wasn’t that stupid to get deep inside a dense forest full of apex predators and with not many man-made paths in the middle of the night, after all.
Being mindful not to wake Rin up, Kagome put the cargo pants over her shorts, hair in a ponytail to keep it out of her face and a strong flashlight in hand before silently venturing out of her tent. Looking around, she could see the friendly tribe not so distant and looking deserted. The sound of the wind was a lot stronger and the air a lot colder outside, and she felt adrenaline building inside her chest once she looked where the wind was leading: the pitch black forest.
It was expected, she thought, they were many miles away from the nearest city, and the only light available was that of the full moon in the sky, but the forest was just too dense and too stubborn to let any rays through the treetops. Swallowing, she started walking. Her brain was screaming for her to go back, lay down and try to sleep like a normal person, but her body apparently had a mind of it’s own. The more she walked towards the forest, the more she wanted to get inside. And so she did.
As soon as she was engulfed by plants and her eyes had adjusted a bit, the adrenaline seemed to peak and then disappear enough to become a lingering feeling. She new that path — the natives had been teaching her the comunal herb path for weeks now — and she knew the plants and frogs showing up. Maybe it wasn’t that terrible after all. She would just walk around the camp’s vicinity a little bit and go back; she knew a few of those plants only bloomed during the night.
Turning her flashlight to the minimum setting, she couldn’t help but feel weird at how peaceful everything felt. One or two bats got scared from the light while she walked around taking mental notes of the plants, and a solitary owl made its presence known somewhere, but other than that it was just the occasional cricket. Until, she noticed, everything went quiet.
Maybe a little too quiet.
Even the crickets had gone completely silent. Freezing in place for a few seconds, Kagome took a deep, silent breath before turning around to analyze her surroundings. Everything seemed normal, except…
“Where am I” she thought to herself, looking back to the tree in front of her: she most definitely recognized it, but not anything around it. Everywhere was pitch black, and her flashlight revealed to her no returning paths whatsoever.

Yeah...I suck at this. Swear it’s the last one till March 14. Part two was too gut punchy to just leave it there.
Fic inspired by @clearwillow‘s “New Moon Ride”

Read Part Two of One Last Ride here.
One Last Ride: Part Three
His parent's house was just as she remembered it.
It was a quaint, two story farmhouse with white siding and a wrap around porch. His grandfather and built it years ago, and it had been passed down to their only child when he passed - Inuyasha's father, Touga.
Kagome hadn't been well acquainted with his grandfather at the time - she had only been eight when he passed - but she had remembered seeing Inuyasha when he came to visit him before they had moved in.
He was the cute little half demon boy that would play in the creek running from behind his house to behind their house because he had wandered too far from his grandparent's land. Eventually, when they moved in, he became the cute little half demon boy who would climb their tree and throw rocks at her window to get her to come outside and play. The cute little half demon boy who fell out of that same tree once and landed on his arm the wrong way and broke it.
She remembered that day well. He picked out a red cast and was so downtrodden...she made her dad drive her over and brought him the last of the ice cream from their freezer. They sat on his porch, splitting it from the same, waxy paper box while their parents sat inside, drinking decaf coffee and talking. She could remember how the setting sun washed over them, making his gold eyes shimmer as she had the honor of being the first person to write on his cast.
And then…
Then she had given him his first kiss. It was only on the cheek...but the look on his face…
That had sealed their fate together.
"It hasn't changed," she commented as they got closer to the house.
"Don't tell Ma that," he snorted. "She had us out here a few weeks back repaintin' the whole damn thing."
"Is that why it looks so clean?" she joked, but he didn't reply. "Well...you did a lovely job."
"Thanks," he whispered, and she felt him pull her closer as if forgetting himself for a moment as he guided Bessie over to the porch. They came to a stop, and she waited for him to move, but he didn't.
"Inuyasha?" she breathed, silently asking him what was going on as his fingers flexed against her waist.
"I...I know it'll be hard," he began, swallowing, "but let's try 'n be civil when we go in. Please? For Ma?"
"Of course," she whispered, turning around to look at him. He looked so...sad and shattered, like that little boy who fell out of the tree and broke his arm. Her heart ached to comfort him and kiss away his tears...but she couldn't.
That wasn't them anymore.
"You…" he began, his eyes landing on her lips before he shook his head.
"What?" she pressed.
"You still smell good," he admitted, and she felt herself soften. She knew how big that had always been for him. Dog demons had such sensitive noses...and even though he was only half human, he hadn't been an exception to the rule. "It...it would be so much easier if I didn't…" he sighed, dropping his head for a moment. Finally, having composed himself, he let go of her, swinging his leg around to dismount before reluctantly offering her a hand.
She took it and ignored the way her body still sung at his touch, accepting his help to step down from the mare.
"Why don't you go on in?" he encouraged once she had her feet on solid ground. "Ma will kill me if I don't wash up a bit first."
"Ok," she nodded, smiling. It was nice to know that she hadn't changed either. "Do you want some help," she asked before her brain could stop her, almost as if on reflex. It was like she had slipped back in time to seven years ago. She hadn't even thought about what she had said until the words were out of her mouth.
"I...No," he replied awkwardly, his chest letting out a hurt sigh. His pain was tangible...she...she hadn't meant it. She hadn't wanted to rub salt in the wound. "I can hose off just fine on my own now."
"Of course," she nodded, turning on her heel and heading inside. She carefully opened the storm door. The old hinges squeaked noisily as she entered - the plastic clattering shut behind her.
She hadn't realized how much she missed that sound. Or how hard her heart would clench when she heard it.
It was the sound of her childhood.
The sound of them running in from the yard for a popsicle after playing during long, lazy summer days. It was the sound of Inuyasha chasing her to the family room before they started working on their homework together. It was the sound of his parents returning when they were upstairs in Inuyasha's bed with their hands and lips all over each other's bodies.
Good lord. How they had never actually had sex, she still had no idea...Only, that wasn't true.
It was...it was too scary at the time.
Too big a step.
They were young and adventurous...and...while he had made it clear that if she wanted to go further, he absolutely would...she hadn't quite been that adventurous. She had been shy and nervous and…
She sighed.
She would have much rather slept with Inuyasha than waste her first time by getting drunk at a college party and screwing around with the first thing that had a dick.
Hindsight was 20/20.
She looked around the kitchen and got out two glasses to fill with cold water from the pitcher in the fridge, knowing that Inuyasha could use a drink whenever he came back in. It was hot out there, and he had been working hard and—
"Boys? Are you back already? That was faster than…" Izayoi gasped, clearly not expecting to see the raven haired woman now standing in the middle of her kitchen with two glasses of water. "Kagome?"
"Hi Mrs. Takahashi," she greeted weakly. She was sure she was giving the poor woman heart failure right about now. It wasn't like...things weren't what they used to be. Seeing her wasn't as normal or as common an occurrence as it once was.
She watched as Izayoi blinked hard and long as if she had to have been imagining the woman in front of her.
"Kagome," she whispered still in shock. "What are you doin' here?"
The sound of the storm door creaking open and slamming shut again drew their attention to Inuyasha as he walked in, rubbing his face with the hem of his shirt. Water beaded up on his skin, making it shimmer in the kitchen light.
Kagome tried to not let the view affect her.
She really did...but he had really matured since she last saw him and...well...she was only human ok? A human with eyes. A woman with red blood, and it was all working against her right now.
The fucker. The way he smirked at her told her that he was doing it intentionally, too. Like he wanted to remind her of what she had given up...and how much better it was now. It was like he was saying, 'and to think...all this could have been yours'.
He let the hem of his shirt fall as he greeted his mother with a hug, barefoot from ditching his shoes outside the door so he wouldn't track mud in. She always yelled at the "boys" for tracking mud in.
"Her rental car broke down just outside the ranch," he explained, raising an eyebrow at the glass of water she offered him. She wanted to roll her eyes and tell him that it wasn't poisoned...but they had agreed to be civil for the sake of the woman in front of them. "The engine overheated. We have to wait until it cools down before we can do something about it."
"So you came here?" She asked tightly.
Oh.
Good.
She was thrilled to see her too.
Had she pissed off everyone in his family?
"Yes Ma," he sighed, downing the glass of water. "It's closer than her family's ranch, and the car broke down here. It made sense."
"I see…" Izayoi replied, glancing between them.
"It's ok, Ma," he gently reassured her. "Imma big kid now. I can make adult decisions," he tried to joke lightly, but it didn't ease his mother too much.
"Well Mr. Big Kid - Kikyo called while you were out," Izayoi informed him, leaning against the door frame leading from the living room into the kitchen.
Kagome watched his puppy dog ears perk up and felt her heart sour.
Kikyo? Really?
Were they...were they dating now?
She tried to mentally shake herself, but it was hard. Kikyo had always been interested in Inuyasha. She shouldn't have been surprised...Yet…
Was he really replacing her with Kikyo?
Whatever. He wasn't hers anymore. He could do whatever the fuck he wanted. It didn't matter. But...why the hell hadn't he brought it up when he was asking about her "pet cat". That was just…
Rude? Deceptive?
It wasn't fair that he seemed to know a hell of a lot more about her than she did him.
"Oh yeah? What did she want?" He asked, drawing her out of her thoughts. His smirk grew at the mention of Kikyo as he went to refill his glass of water.
"She said something about going to the Rusty Bucket after you go to the highschool to help set up for graduation tomorrow. I thought I'd let you call her back and get all of the details."
"Yeah. It sounds fun. I'll call later after we get her situated," he grinned tilting his head towards Kagome.
He was loving this, wasn't he? This was everything he could ask for...being able to show off his new life. Show her how fine he was without her. Show her how much he didn't need her. She was sure it was all kinds of fucking satisfying for him.
"Rusty Bucket, huh? I haven't thought of that place in a long time."
It was their local bar. Well...local being the operative word. It was the bar in the closest town...the truest definition of a dive bar. Dark lighting, pool tables, a mechanical bull...top it off with sticky furniture and greasy food? Perfection.
"We weren't exactly old enough ta get in when you were here last," he grinned.
"I've been a few times."
His smile faltered at that.
"Huh. Shame I didn't run into ya."
Running into him wasn't exactly her goal when she went. Running into him was never her goal.
"Have you called your mother yet, Kagome?" Izayoi asked, running interference between them. "I'm sure she must be worried sick about you."
"No...not yet. I was going to do that after I got him some water," she confessed, causing Izayoi to raise a suspicious eyebrow in her direction.
"Well. No time like the present. You're welcome to stay for dinner...sounds like it will be a while until the car cools off. Touga and Sesshomaru have the truck right now and the sedan needs to be looked at."
"I...dinner would be lovely. Thank you," she replied awkwardly, and Izayoi nodded her head.
"I'm going to finish up folding the laundry and then I could use your help making it. Baby, are you gonna go back out there and help your father and brother? Or are you done for the day?"
"I think they'll be fine without me," he smiled smally. "I wanted to take a shower if that's alright. I smell like an ogar's armpit."
She wanted to ask how that was different from normal...but…
She mentally sighed and held her tongue instead.
"Go on Sweetheart," she encouraged, and he finished his glass of water before disappearing, squeezing his mother's shoulder as he passed.
The second he was gone, Izayoi nailed Kagome with a hard look, making her shift uncomfortably in her shoes.
"Seven years," she whispered, looking her up and down. "You've changed quite a bit in seven years. Turned into a very attractive woman."
"Thank you, Mrs. Takahashi."
"Mmm...seven years can do a lot to a person, can't it? It can make them grow up. Mature. Move on."
Kagome suddenly got the feeling she wasn't going to like where Izayoi was going with this.
"You know, it's taken my baby a long time to learn how to smile again after you had your way with him. He's finally laughing. Looking forward to each new day. The darkness you left in his eyes and his heart has finally disappeared...and he's turned into a fine young man.
A respectable young man.
A young man with a new twinkle in his eye and a respectable, good woman on his arm.
Kagome Higurashi...I swear to God and to all things Holy...if you hurt my baby, or try to get between him and Kikyo...you could move to New York and I'd still hunt you down and pull your teeth out your ass. We clear?"
"Y-yes Ma'am," she stuttered, the vehemence in her words and the ice in her stare freezing her blood.
"Good. You know I always thought of you as the daughter I never had...but after what you did to my boy?" She paused to tsk and shake her head. "You come for your lil' visit and then you get outta here. You understand me?"
"Yes Ma'am," she whispered, trying to ignore the feeling of her heart shattering into a thousand pieces.
What was she expecting though? A warm hug and a kiss on the cheek?
All of this was a giant mistake. She should have just...just asked him to take her home. It would have been easier than facing her past. Then again….maybe she should be.
Maybe it was time to face her demons, once and for all.
Pun only slightly intended.

Hello!! I hope your recovering is going smoothly! If it won't be a bother could i request a inuyasha piece? I am rewatching the series and saw that it is your list! So could i request sesshomaru realizing he fell in love? What little things about him/his attitude would give a hint of it? Thank you! ❤
It has gone really well and I am able to bend my knee again. I hope you enjoy it and thanks for requesting! Sorry if it isn’t super long!
Sesshomaru came to a sudden stop when his heart started thumping in his chest. He raised one of his hands and pressed it to his chest and took deep breaths. Jaken raced over to him with panic evident in his voice. “Master Sesshomaru! What’s wrong?!” He cried out waving his arms around. “That girl back at the village. The one we asked to watch Rin for a bit?” He said. Jaken nodded his head. “That human woman? What about her? Do I need to send someone to kill her?!” He yelled out.  Sesshomaru smacked the imp on the top of his head.
“You will not harm her. There’s something about her that seems…..I don’t know. Different.” He said. They finished their mission and headed back to the village to pick Rin up. As they walked back, they noticed Rin standing on a few boxes as she was playing with your hair. His heart began pounding in his chest. As he walked closer, he could see how you smiled and laughed along with Rin. His eyes began to soften as he walked closer to where he could hear what you two were talking about.
“Sesshomaru! You’re back!” Rin’s voice rang out snapping him out of his thoughts. He looked down to see Rin hugging his legs with the biggest grin he had ever seen on her face. He looked back up to see you smiling brightly as well. “Thank you for taking care of Rin for me.” Sesshomaru said, trying his hardest not to stutter as he talked to you. There was something in the way that you just smiled that made his heart beat like a drum in his chest and made his knees go weak.
“Hey Sesshomaru, if you are not going on any more missions, why don’t you stay here in town for a bit? Rin would love to show you the fun stuff she was able to do while you were out.” Y/n said, holding her hand out for the taller demon to take. Sesshomaru placed his hand in hers not knowing what he was supposed to do. She grabbed his hand and started pulling him in the direction of a small outside shop Rin had always gone too.
His mind went blank when he felt her hand tighten around his hand. A small blush began to rise on his cheeks and he did his best to hide it, but Rin and Jaken were too fast and spotted the blush before he could turn his head to look away. They turned and looked at each other before a big grin appeared on their faces. “Ah, Y/n! Are you and this tall gentlemen dating?” The owner asked. Sesshomaru’s face exploded into a massive blush before his hand went up to cover his face. Y/n could feel her face heat up and turn red.
“No. I was just showing him around. I was just taking care of the little girl that he watches while he went on a mission.” She said, fanning her face to calm down. “Oh, well, you two look absolutely wonderful together. It's a shame you two are not dating.” He said. Sesshomaru tried his hardest not to let his face erupt into a burning blush again at the owner's words. “Sesshomaru.” Rin called out as they were getting ready to leave the village the next morning.
Sesshomaru looked down at her. “Why won’t you and miss Y/n date?” She asked. Sesshomaru’s eyes widened and a blush erupted on his face. “W-Well, I’m a d-demon and she i-isn’t. I don’t think s-she would like to d-date a d-demon.” He stuttered out making Rin grin widely. “Well, you never know if she doesn’t answer.” She said. “You can come out now Y/n.” Rin called out. Sesshomaru nearly died from embarrassment when she walked out from behind the tree. Rin gave Sesshomaru a wide grin before running off.
“You know, what the owner of that shop said, it kinda surprised me. I had been asking Rin how to ask you out because you never seemed to smile or even looked at anyone.” Y/n said. Sesshomaru looked down at her. They soon sat down on the grass next to each other. Sesshomaru took a deep breath and wrapped his arms around her shoulder pulling her close to his side. “When I first asked you to watch Rin while I went on a mission, I felt my heart start acting weird when I was around you after the few times I had asked you to watch her.” Sesshomaru admitted.
“I didn’t quite understand what it was but, I think I do now.” He turned to face her before leaning down and getting close to her face. “If you don’t want this, push me away.” He said before pressing his lips against hers. Her eyes widened before she melted into the kiss. Her arms wrapped around his neck and his wrapped around her waist. Since both had never kissed anyone, they took it slow. They kept the kiss gentle to test the waters. Pulling away from the kiss, Sesshomaru pressed his fingers to his lips and stared at the grass.
“Wow.” Y/n whispered, causing him to look over at her. “Did you not like it?” He asked. Y/n shook her head. “No, I loved it. I’ve never kissed anyone. I was always afraid that it was going to be horrible if I kissed someone because I didn’t have experience in that department. But, kissing you was way more different than what I expected. It was…..nice.” She whispered, pressing her fingers to her lips and smiling softly. Her eyes became half lidded as she remembered the feel of the kiss.
Sesshomaru shifted himself around so he could lay on her lap. He turned his head so he was looking up at her while she was looking down at him. She smiled and began running her fingers through his white hair. “I normally never associate myself with humans, but for you, I can make an exception.” Sesshomaru said raising his hand to put behind her head and pull her down to kiss again. She smiled into the kiss and pressed her hand against the side of his face. Pulling away from the kiss, she pressed her forehead against his. “Don’t ever abandon me. Ok?” She whispered. Sesshomaru smiled for the first time he could remember. “Wouldn’t dream of it.” He replied.

Tsering led Sesshomaru along to a room. He followed only because he had been promised to see the woman in good faith. There would be hell to pay had any harm befallen her. Even agreeing to this charade was folly as there was no guarantee Fan would not kill her later. So, he strode silently behind.
He had been led to a room that looked vacant outside of minimal decor and other furnishings. It was evident that the room belonged to Tsering based upon her lingering scent alone. Why he had been brought to this room was unknown to Sesshomaru. He allowed a low growl to rumble deep within his chest to express his dissatisfaction.
"This was not part of our arrangement," he announced, dryly.
Tsering glanced at him from over her shoulder, eyeing him coldly. "You are not the only one who requires a show of good faith." She walked over to a large mirror and looked at the reflection. A smile tugged at her lips while she used the mirror's reflection to assess him.
His eyes narrowed at her. "I am loathed to repeat myself."
She turned gracefully, her headdress tinkling. Reaching up a hand, she pulled it off and loosened her hair so that it fell down her back in shimmering waves of silver. "Then let me occupy your lips, your thoughts…" With a sashay of her hips, she reached him and placed one hand on his chest, and the other she stroked his fur.
Sesshomaru was not inclined to allow this folly, obviously a play to force his hand. He gave Tsering a shove that sent her stumbling backward a few feet. Despite the rejection, she smiled coyly. "Do not deny me, Sesshomaru. I must know that you intend to honor our marriage."
"Should a maiden not remain so for her wedding night?" Sesshomaru asked in an attempt to deter Tsering's advances.
She laughed melodiously. "You jest, Sesshomaru. Do not pretend that those as long-lived as we do not share pleasures with others."
"I prefer to be judicious with my partners," Sesshomaru responded.
"What a choice of words for one who fucks humans," Tsering said with venom. A loathsome grin grew, her words chosen with barbarous care.
He reacted immediately, closing the distance between them in seconds and gripped her by her shoulders. He snarled silently, sneering at her despite her amused expression. "Look around yourself, bitch. Do not attempt to bandy words about when your own situation is just as dire."
Her smile slipped momentarily as she contemplated his words. She slipped her arms under his and wrapped them around his neck, pressing her body against his. "Exactly why I am adamant about seeing this union through."
Tsering was a conniving woman who was acting out of desperation. Her womanly wiles were her only means of getting what she wanted, and over the centuries, she had not likely been denied by any. Sesshomaru could see that her motivations, while different, led to a similar goal.
She stood up on her tiptoes to look at him in the eye. He did not push her away this time even as her lids lowered and her lips came near. It may have been in his best interests to allow a kiss; to go along with her aims and leave Fan's estate unscathed. That would have been the easy path, but an unhonorable one. Sesshomaru turned his head at the last second, and Tsering's lips grazed his cheek.
He had expected her to be angry, but she only chuckled at him. Her eyes flicked up to look behind him for a brief moment before settling back on Sesshomaru. Tsering stepped back and spun away from him. He heard her let out a tiny sigh, but she glanced back over her shoulder with a smile.
"Come then. Your human woman awaits," she said with a shrug. Letting her hair remain down, she readjusted her disheveled robes.
o - o - o - o - o
An hour had passed since Fan had come to taunt her, and Kagome sat on the Western-style chair in apparent melancholy. She figured that something would happen soon, whether she was to be released or killed or whatever that ingrate had in mind. Nothing mattered now to her except that Setsuna, her baby, was safe. It eased her anxiety somewhat to think that she must be safe; otherwise, she would be imprisoned here as well.
A knock on the door brought her from her thoughts, and she bolted upright. There had never been a knock on the door, and Kagome was unsure what to do. Under normal circumstances, she would answer the door and invite the guest in, but her circumstances now were far from ordinary. Hesitantly, she stepped to the door, which remained closed, and stood for a few heartbeats.
The knock sounded again, and Kagome slid the door open. Her jaw dropped at the creature she beheld. What looked to be a large man with the head of a horse stared down at her. His large animal eyes seemingly devoid of human emotion simply gazed at her. Dark hair fell over its forehead and spilled down its back and robust shoulders, which shook out from side to side in an equestrian manner. The creature held a giant pitchfork in its grossly oversized human hands, which it used to tap on the ground in a demanding manner. It stepped aside to her right in a military-like manner, allowing her to exit the room. Apparently, this was Fan's way of summoning her.
When she exited the room, another clacking noise sounded from left. The sound caused her to jump, and she found another similar creature standing there with a large, barbed scythe in hand. This creature had the head of a bull, complete with a large nose ring. The pair of creatures flanked her, and the horse-headed man urged her forward with a point of his murderous pitchfork.
Kagome was lead down the halls, past many rooms. The halls were just as eerily quiet as the room in which she was being held. Their footsteps echoed down the length of the hall, announcing their passing to anyone with ears. Eventually, they reach a large room, ornate with weaponry from all past and current eras and nationalities. It wasn't the weaponry that caught her eye, though.
In the middle of the room, a cutting figure waited, resplendent in his meticulous garb with his long hair flowing down behind his back. He looked every part of the regal yokai he was and an exceptionally beautiful with a matching woman to his side. Sesshomaru watched her arrive with a cold gaze, much different from the amused expression his female companion wore.
Kagome felt her throat grow tight, and she bit the inside of her lip to keep her emotions in check. It was so easy for him to do, and she envied him his ability to appear so cold and feel nothing. What a fool she was to think to feel anything for someone who could so callously set her aside.
She'd never seen the inuyokai woman, not truly. Their first unofficial meeting had been obstructed by her death, revival, and then the bodies of her friends that protected her. Now, seeing the beautiful woman made her feel shameful that he would ever consider putting Tsering aside for her.
Tsering stood beside Sesshomaru, practically hanging off of him with her left arm looped casually over his shoulder and her robes coming undone and her hair loose. Even looking disheveled from whatever they had started in the room hours ago, Tsering was gorgeous. Her flowing silver tresses had a beautiful white sheen to it, and her lips looked plumply pink. Kagome paled in comparison. What could she give? Could she do better than the woman at his side? She was human and would likely die long before the pair were even in their prime.
The horse and ox-man stopped just outside the door of the room, and Kagome was free to go the rest of the way on her own. Holding her head up high, she walked in a few feet to stand before the couple. What was the purpose of parading them before her? Or her them? She did her best to keep her arms pinned to her sides — no point in making a scene. What's done is done, and now she just wanted to get back to Setsuna, the only constant in her life.
Kagome jumped a fraction when she heard Fan's voice from behind her.
"I'm glad you could make it," he said with his ever-present smile.
"How could I refuse such a gracious invitation?" she snapped, boldly. Kagome didn't incline to play whatever game Fan Tsenpo had orchestrated, but she still stepped right into his verbal trap. He stepped up behind her and pointed over her shoulder to the array of decorative weapons mounted on the wall.
"Do you enjoy it? My display?" he asked casually.
Kagome looked around the room, her brows drawn together in perplexion at his random question. "It is not to my tastes," she replied sardonically.
Tsering laughed, a sound equally as beautiful as her countenance. "My brother is something of a collector. He has rooms dedicated to a great many different things. Though why he has chosen to delay things with talk of his crude pieces is beyond me."
Fan grinned, "Tut, tut, sister! There is always a method to my madness!"
Tsering's face fell a little, Kagome noticed, but her smile did not fall entirely. Fan walked around the room in great strides, largely ignoring all of the occupants as he gazed at the walls. He stopped by a bow, similar to the bow Kagome was well acquainted with. Delicately, he picked it up and a single arrow next to it. He examined the two items before bringing them over and presenting them to Kagome.
"How about this one? Care to give it a try?" he asked.
She wasn't sure what to do and looked at him quizzically. His behavior was even more confusing now than she'd previously encountered. "Try it?"
"Yes, this is a similar weapon to what your creed use, though much older. I'm certain it will still work for you," he began.
Still perplexed, she looked over to Sesshomaru, whose visage was still a silent mask. Fan regarded her in amusement. "I've never had the pleasure of meeting a shrine maiden. Although I am perplexed, I've always been told that one had to be...well...a maiden otherwise the spiritual powers would leave. Care to demonstrate?"
"Demonstrate?"
"Yes, it's simple. I merely require a demonstration from you, and I promise on my sister's life that you will be free to go."
Tsering's eyes widened, and her jaw went partially slack, but she held her tongue. Likely trusting her brother would not allow harm to come to her.
That deal sounded loaded heavily, and not in her favor. Still, he wasn't giving her many options, and Sesshomaru was not in a position or had the inclination to have an input. "What are your terms?" she asked hesitantly.
"Oh, a smart one you are. I should not have expected any less," he laughed. Fan walked towards Sesshomaru and clapped him on the back. Sesshomaru cut a quick glare at the man but said nothing.
"Ox-man, come here!" Fan demanded, using a waving hand.
The ox-man entered wordlessly. He must have heard what had been proposed, and he was either too loyal or too stupid to question his master.
"Show me what you are capable of here on him." Fan pointed to the ox-man and tilted his head.
"No, I will not," Kagome said.
"You will."
"I refuse."
"Do not push me, girl. I have a great amount of time and power in my hands. It would not even be sporting of me to find your whelp child and dispose of it...or add it to my collection of oddities."
Kagome flushed with rage. "You wouldn't." She knew he would. Part of her was unsure of why she would suggest otherwise.
"It is only your fortune that it is not here now to sway you further, but I can promise that I will uphold my word."
Kagome gripped the bow tightly. She'd never had to execute anyone who had not attacked her outright; even then, she was hesitant to kill without it being a last resort. However, a threat against Setsuna was too much of a risk. Especially a threat from Fan.
The ox-man stood quietly several feet in front of her. There wasn't even a chance she could miss at such a short-range. Gritting her teeth, she slowly raised the bow and allowed a trickle of spiritual power to flow into her arrow.
The demon stood still, its face devoid of thought or emotion. Kagome gritted her teeth and inhaled, holding the breath in her chest as she aimed. With an exhale and an expert hand, she released the string, and the arrow flew.
It seemed to fly in slow motion, though only seconds passed. The arrow grew in intensity as it drew closer, the spiritual power building to become an overwhelming burst of light as it reached its target. The arrow hit true in the beast's chest, and the spiritual power consumed him, engulfing him in purification. In a flash, the ox-man was gone, decimated into nothingness. Kagome felt her arm go slack and her face blank. She'd never killed so wantonly before, and despite having a legitimate reason, it still hurt her.
She looked to Fan, who stood with his back resting against a wall near an assortment of swords of varying lengths, widths, and other diameters, and he seemed quite pleased with himself. His arms were folded, and he looked down his straight nose at her, his face unusually unreadable.
"Are you not entertained?" she blurted out callously. Inwardly, she snickered despite herself at her pun that no one in this era would get.
Fan remained relaxed against the wall. "Not quite. It is one thing to demonstrate on a low ranking Niu Tou. I am certain he is pleased to return to Difu along with his counterpart, anyway."
Her face must have belied her confusion and disappointment as he carried on, "With that said, I am impressed, though I would now like to see that power against a more formidable opponent. Perhaps a daiyokai?" he suggested. He brought over to her another arrow, placing it in her hand with care.
"Order them in," Kagome said flatly. It would weigh heavily upon her, she knew.
"No need, he is already here," he responded with his sinister grin and gesturing to the couple on the other side of the room. Tsering had led Sesshomaru by the arm out of harm's way moments before Kagome was to 'demonstrate' her abilities. Now, Tsering went completely slack-jawed.
Kagome, incredulous, gasped, "What?" Her head swiveled to look at Sesshomaru. He looked...bored?! He didn't seem perturbed at all. Perhaps he knew something that Kagome did not. 'How could he do or say nothing?!' she wondered.
Tsering stepped away from Sesshomaru in outrage. "Brother! What ludicrousy is this?"
"I am merely curious," he chuckled.
"Then conduct your experiment on someone else," she responded acidly.
"No, I want to see," Fan said. He made a waiting gesture to Kagome, and the look he gave his sister was sinister, yet admonishing one indeed. One that quieted her and caused her to step back.
Fan waited as Kagome held the bow and arrow in her hands. "My promise to you still stands," he reminded her.
He marked her hesitation, "You hesitate, yet he would not do the same for you. We are not human, but more and above the trivial and feeble emotions you mortals are subjected to. He could care for you no more than a pet, which you practically are in comparison to my sister, a daiyokai."
Kagome glared at Fan and looked at Sesshomaru from the corner of her eyes. He was infuriatingly silent. How could he be so unmoved?! Fan was probably right; even Sesshomaru had said she was just a good time the last time she'd seen him. How could she have such complex, complicated feelings for someone who would not or could not have them in return?
She mentally berated herself for thinking he could love her, which she had allowed herself to believe for just a moment. After he had come back, she thought it was because he felt...something.
Still, she couldn't bring herself to kill him, if even her power could do that. Kagome looked into his golden eyes and then saw something, a trick of the light, she wasn't sure.
It seemed a perfect opportunity as any, and she placed the arrow against the string, taking in a breath and pulling it taunt.
She aimed the arrow at its target and noticed that Tsering had fled to another corner of the room, abandoning her intended to Kagome's spiritual power.
Kagome felt fury well up inside her and channeled that emotion into her arrow. She could feel her righteous anger leave her into the shaft, leaving her steady and calm.
If her first shot had impressed Fan Tsenpo, then this one would blow him away. The arrow already shone with a blinding light and would purify anything within its vicinity. At the last second, she moved her aim and loosed the arrow.
o - o - o - o - o
It was no task to keep his face schooled into a semblance of aloof arrogance. Sesshomaru had long ago mastered the art of a stoic face, and the practice served him well throughout the centuries. Though, he seldom had a reason for his facade to break from his uncaring expression.
The miko had blown into his world and unsettled his spectrum of life; first, by releasing his idiot brother and then by unleashing a pandemonium of events that ultimately led them here.
His skill of maintaining himself and his semblance was being utilized to its greatest potential at the moment. Tsering hung off him like a lamprey sucking at its host like a parasite. Currently, she had laid her head on his shoulder in a pathetic display of affection that he fought the urge to shove off. That would do him no good at the moment.
As Sesshomaru looked around, feigning a bored sense of interest, he found the contents of the room he had been brought to be a little macabre, but he was not surprised given the collector of the items. Fan Tsenpo was an oddity, and Sesshomaru had seen it all. It would seem that a pang of insatiable hunger for power and knowledge did not age well.
Weapons of all kinds were hung upon the walls. Sesshomaru even noticed items of considerable renown from Edo had been enshrined as well. What a waste. Fan may be a warrior, but he was also careless and arrogant, which was showcased throughout the estate.
The man had only just arrived inside the room and had taken a sword from the wall sheathed inside an ornate hilt. Fan pulled the weapon a quarter of the way outside of its hilt to show a beautiful bronze blade. Fan smiled at the sword and looked over at Sesshomaru. "Beautiful, is it not? Yokai-made, though humans pretend that they can craft something so perfect. The blade is older even than I and still brilliant and sharp."
Fan sheathed the blade and placed it back up on its wall mount. "No, blades like that are just not cast any longer."
"I do not think Sesshomaru is interested in your playthings, brother," Tsering said with annoyance. Even as she clung to him, her arms wrapped tight around his own and a smile plastered on her face, she was ready to be done with the charade Fan was putting on.
Fan shrugged and put his arms across his chest. "No matter, our guest is on her way as we speak."
Sesshomaru could hear the steps of two larger-bodied figures and the fainter sound of footsteps that must be the miko. He watched as she stepped hesitantly into the room, her eyes settling upon him but not before narrowing at Tsering's embrace.
Strangely, she did not display surprise at what she saw. Though it must have distracted her, despite the lack of surprise, for she was visibly stricken when Fan came up from behind.
The man taunted her and paraded his boorish collection for his hidden purposes. Fan's intentions, by orchestrating this meeting, were glaringly obvious; but the fool was all over the place, and it was hard to put a thumb on precisely what he planned.
Sesshomaru had asked for proof that the woman was alive and unharmed. He had been given that proof, yet Fan continued to dangle the woman in front of him like some scintillating treat. Rubbing his nose in it seemed more likely. Sesshomaru figured he would have to endure this torment to assure the woman's life.
Fan's little show culminated in a finale where he demanded a demonstration of the woman's powers. Now Fan was showing his hand. He was pushing the miko into place.
She balked at the suggestion, unsurprisingly.
It wasn't until the crazy yokai threatened the child that she broke and gave in, extinguishing the yokai in front of her with a subliminal show of power.
Now, just as Sesshomaru expected, Fan ordered the woman to use her powers upon him. Both Tsering and the woman looked to the sneering Fan incredulously. Tsering even went so far as to question her brother, to no avail.
Again, Fan threatened the life of their mutual child. Even so, the woman looked piteously upon him, at war with herself. She must choose the life of her child or his own.
Fan pushed the woman, suggesting that Sesshomaru would not hesitate to kill her if their situations were reversed. Her eyes began to well up with unshed tears, and she bit her lip.
Sesshomaru felt his brows knit with concern. Not for himself, but for her. He was the reason she was here, being pushed to commit heinous acts that may be nothing for him, but taxed her spirit much. She suffered, though she put on a strong face.
Slowly, the miko raised her weapon and aimed at his chest. It would be a fatal blow, he knew.
He watched her eyes and their gaze locked on one another. Sesshomaru heard her draw in a breath, meaning she was to loose the arrow.
As the miko exhaled, she turned her aim towards Fan in the final second. If Fan had not expected this, he gave no tell. His smile never left his face, even as Tsering gasped.
Much to Sesshomaru's annoyance, Fan had caught the arrow midair. The glowing light of condensed spiritual power seemed minuscule, and he even had the audacity to laugh. But, the light grew larger and larger until Fan's laugh dissipated, and his smile turned into a grimace.
The miko took a step forward and held out a hand where more blinding light shone. Her face was one of concentration and determination.
The spiritual power began to grow and envelope Fan, who still held the arrow aloft in his hand and grunted to be free of purification. The fool had bitten off more than he could chew. The spiritual blast would not kill him, but it would disorient the man at the very least.
Sesshomaru took the opportunity to dislodge himself from Tsering, who stood transfixed to the unfolding events befalling her brother.
Fan roared with anger, and likely pain, before he freed himself from his grip of the arrow. The light fizzled out once it hit the ground, looking harmless and unassuming.
Once the light had dissipated some, Sesshomaru noticed Fan's right half was burned beyond recognition, and his face now bore a gruesome and permanent smirk quite befitting him. His eye shone pale in comparison to the other, which began to glow a dull red.
Sesshomaru stepped in front of the miko and pulled free his sword. "It would seem you placed a wager you could not pay, Fan Tsenpo. Now you shall reap the reward."
Fan did not respond with words but grew in size of monstrous proportions. Fur spread over his body, and his limbs contorted as he grew to take on his true form.
o - o - o - o - o
Kagome watched as Fan continued to grow in size. Were they to die? Cut down by a ferocious daiyokai in its massive true form? A yokai in its TRUE form was immensely more powerful than the one contained in the smaller human-sized vessel.
She'd recalled when Sesshomaru had taken his form, but in comparison, Fan was much, much more significant. The room they were in was large, but already Fan had burst through the ceiling, allowing him to grow larger still. Every part of the building shook and crumbled down.
Kagome raised her hands in a vain attempt to stop from being pummeled with shards of wood and bits of mortar and stone. She squeezed her eyes shut in reflex, but when nothing pelted her, she peeked to see Sesshomaru in front of her. He blocked all falling debris quickly, waiting solemnly with his blade drawn. Would he transform, too?
Fan snarled and growled in his monstrous form, making incoherent moves and swatting at where he must have thought they would be. He continued to attack anything and everything in his path, destroying much of his palace.
The screams and shouts of the unseen castle residents could be heard from varying parts of the palace grounds, and mortals and yokai alike fled from the destruction.
Kagome looked at the large daiyokai with confusion. Why was he not attacking them?
"He has been blinded," Sesshomaru provided an answer to her unspoken question. He looked over his shoulder at her. "I shall end this," he told her and quickly launched up toward the rampaging Fan.
In a brilliant moment, Sesshomaru took Bakusaiga and easily cut the beast down. It was not a fair fight. Fan lashed out wildly, relying on his remaining senses to aid him but to no avail. It was child's play for Sesshomaru to avoid the large paws and the huge gnashing teeth.
Fan fell to the ground in slow motion, landing with a resonant thud. His enormous chest heaved up and down until the movements became shallow and eventually stopped.
It seemed all too anticlimactic as Sesshomaru turned his back on his opponent and walked calmly back towards her. He sheathed his sword and held out a hand to her.
Kagome gave a start, "Wait, where's Tsering?!" She had failed to notice the woman's absence and immediately grew concerned.
Sesshomaru did not seem to share her worry. "She fled after you fired upon her brother," he answered.
"Oh. Should we be worried?" Kagome asked, looking around. The last thing she needed was to be attacked by Sesshomaru's former fiancee.
"No," he responded and extended his hand again to her, urging her to take it. "Let us be away from here."
Kagome could not agree more and took his hand. He pulled her close and wrapped his arm around her waist before they rose into the air, up and away from the destruction below.
o - o - o - o - o
It had taken days to arrive back to Kagome's village. Sesshomaru had delivered her wordlessly upon the doorstep of her home outside the town.
The journey home had been immensely awkward for her. It would have likely taken only half the time for Sesshomaru to travel on his own, but he was laden down with a mortal woman who needed to eat, sleep, and do other human things.
While the entire trip was not completely silent, the words they exchanged held no value. Sesshomaru had offered no excuses nor explanations to any of the events transpired and Kagome was not inclined to ask, still sulking from the experience.
Kagome knew she was being stubborn, but she assured herself that she was not wrong for feeling the way she did. It wasn't her fault that Sesshomaru could be likened to a cantankerous old man. She glowered at him more often than not during their pauses on the journey. She was confident that he noticed, but he made no mention of her irritable mood.
Upon arriving home, Kagome rushed inside only to find the house empty. She was unsure why she expected anyone to be here, but she deflated inside nonetheless. It was like all of her expectations were always set to high, and she could not place a finger on what she should settle for. It was as if she continuously set her sights too high.
Kagome scoffed when it dawned on her that Sesshomaru must have known that no one was here. She crossed her arms beneath her breasts and spun around. Kagome stood inside, looking around for a moment, and Sesshomaru stepped in.
"There is no one here," he stated.
"I've gathered," she said testily. "Why would you bring me here, then?"

Dress
Respectfully named after Taylor Swift’s “Dress”
—————————
It took a moment for air to fully reenter Inuyasha's lungs as he made eye contact with the radiant woman from across the party hall, his body suddenly forgetting how to function normally the second she'd walked into the room. She gave him a knowing smile, thoroughly exciting him, as she continued her conversation with her friends, her brown eyes flickering back his way as she took a sip of her cocktail. It didn't matter what sort of physical strength Inuyasha harbored thanks to his demon blood. He was absolutely, one-hundred percent, definitely and utterly weak in regards to her, and if they weren't surrounded by hundreds of coworkers, all of upper management, and associates of sorts, he'd happily crumble to his knees and crawl to where she stood to express how fucking thankful he was that she existed.
Since February, their relationship had been under wraps. Not a single person in the company, close friends or what have you, knew they'd been secretly seeing each other for almost a year now. They hardly spoke in front of others; they remained completely professional. It was a personal rule, surprisingly for the both of them, not to dip your toes in the company ink, and while he'd tried to hold off, it became physically impossible for Inuyasha not to shove his entire foot in just to talk to her. Kagome was unfairly beautiful. He'd noticed her walking past his office one time, her heavenly scent catching his attention, and the rest was history. He'd never felt so unnaturally pathetic before. Inuyasha was really good at keeping his head down and minding his business. He'd consider one, maybe two people his friends, and the rest were nothing more than associates and acquaintances that he'd only mingle with in reference to work matters. The second he noticed her, though, he was doomed. Suddenly, he had to know who she was and what department she worked in. He needed to know her name and what the sound of her voice would do to him. Sure, there was a meager line of defense within his brain that told him to get a grip, but the voice wasn't loud enough to be heard over his overly-curious thoughts. Who could he ask without blowing his cover, though? How was he supposed to figure her out while trying to remain inconspicuous?
One fortuitous day, Inuyasha had to make a shit ton of copies of a report for a meeting he'd be attending soon. Normally, he'd do it last minute, when traffic in the print room was at a minimum and he wouldn't have to hear some overdone pun about how the printer was named Bob Marley because it's always jammin', but something in the back of his mind was telling him to get it done and get it done now. So, he did. He marched his way over to the stairwell, never opting for the elevator, came out two floors below, took the back route around some cubicles, and entered the print room where the mysterious brunette stood with her back to him, struggling to work the scanner. Her scent filled the area, damn near intoxicating the half demon, and he almost forced himself to turn around and come back later. Before he could, she'd glanced behind and given him a smile. In that moment, he realized just how fucked he was about to be.
Everything would have potentially been fine if she had been as rough around the edges as he was, hopefully bringing him to feel uncomfortable and expelling this irrational crush, but no chance. This girl was the exact opposite of Inuyasha, attracting him like a moth to a flame. After that small encounter, he started to notice her more around their eight-story building. He'd learned she was stationed on the fourth floor, and would often make excuses to head down the three flights from his office to see her, "coincidentally" bumping into her in the break room claiming their bagels were more fresh since they were closer to the ground, and therefore dropped off first. It made sense in his head, and only in his head, but Kagome never seemed to question the excuse. On days where he was really lucky, she'd hike up to his floor to drop something off for her friend, whose cubicle was just outside of his office doors. She wouldn't spare him much of a glance during their brief conversations, but as she'd leave, she'd give him this smile that took roughly around twelve hours to leave his mind.
It didn't take very long for things to grow between them. Office "bump-in's" turned into after work drinks, and after work drinks turned into Friday night dinners, and Friday night dinners turned into whatever the hell Inuyasha could think to do because he never wanted their dates to end. The only good thing about dropping her off at her place was the goodnight kiss, and while he was trying to take her breath away, she was the one leaving a golden indentation on him.
It was a mutual agreement that they'd wanted their relationship to remain separate from their work lives to maintain professionalism and the health of whatever developed between the two of them, and so far it had been nothing less of a thrill. Inuyasha couldn't take his eyes off of her as she mingled and laughed, completely enraptured by the new dress she donned, all the while attempting to uphold a conversation of his own with a coworker and his date. It was like Kagome was trying to make it as hard as possible not to blow his cover. Who gave her the right to look this good? Especially in the one fucking place where he had to keep his shit together.
The way the black fabric hugged her chest and waist was perfect, accentuating her form without showing off too much, the material thick enough to be appropriate for a work function as it hid the curve of her features. The dress, itself, was sleeveless; a collar wrapping around her neck like a chocker holding it together. Nothing touched her shoulders. The cloth curved from the front of the collar and around her bosom, a cut from the center of the chocker to the center of her sternum serving as nothing more than a tease to the half demon. There was a gold belt wrapped around her, holding no purpose other than an accessory, but he wasn't about to complain. Inuyasha had yet to see the back, but he'd noticed a sliver of lace on her shoulder blade when she did a small turn to acknowledge someone saying hello, and he was about ready to do a lap around the building just to see what she was hiding. The skirt was straight and loosened up at her hips, landing about mid-thigh and granting him the view of the century.
God, her thighs. Bless her thighs. He'd always admired her toned muscles, but when she wore heels and her quads did that slight flare, he was almost willing to call a foul because Kagome was playing unfairly.
As if to make his point, she looked at him as she lifted her glass to her mouth, biting her red-painted, bottom lip just before letting it go and taking a sip. Where the fuck was the referee, because this woman was way out of line.
Inuyasha took his phone out of his pocket, still somehow managing to pull off nonchalance as he responded to his friend's question, the conversation never hindering no matter how distracted he was. It was a good thing he wasn't known for being much of a talker; friends were used to making up for his silence. Opening his messages, he tapped on Kagome's contact, her number saved as a simple endearment so no one looking over his shoulder asked questions, and typed, Turn around.
It was only a small moment later that Kagome pulled the phone out of her clutch and checked the text he'd sent, a little smirk curving her lips upward. Then she locked the screen of her cell, closed her clutch, said something to the group of girls she was hanging with, laughed, and walked over to the bartender behind her that the company had hired for the New Years Eve party.
Inuyasha was right when he'd thought he'd seen lace. There were two strips of the wonderful, fragile material leading from the hem of the collar to the outer waistline of her skirt, allowing the center of her back to be exposed. Her creamy skin was calling his name, the dip where her muscles met her spine making his fingers twitch as he thought of gingerly dragging his claws up and down her back as she fell asleep to his touch in bed.
"Do you know Kagome?" Someone asked, yanking Inuyasha from his blissful reverie.
"I'm sorry, what?" He blinked, looking over to see that Hojo guy smiling at him as he awaited an answer. When had he even joined their group?
"Kagome? Is that who you were looking at? I was asking if you knew her." The smile never left his face and he couldn't help but wonder how it was possible the guy didn't live with chronic cheek cramps.
"No." He said flatly. "I was looking at the bar. I'll need a refill in a second."
"You've still got half a glass." Miroku commented, side-eyeing the red, plastic cup in his hand. Without missing a beat, the half demon lifted the cup to his lips and downed the mixture of rum and coke, smiling sarcastically at his friend.
"And now I don't."
Before he knew it, Inuyasha was being personally escorted to the temporarily installed bar across the hall, closer and closer to Kagome, her perfume beginning to stand out over the washed out scents of everyone else. She kept her eyes on the few girls talking with her, and he, somehow, managed to keep his head forward.
This was his favorite part about working together: pretending she didn't notice him as he brushed by, the long sleeve of his white button-up shirt caressing the silky flesh of her arm. Pretending he didn't know who she was, when in fact he'd taken the deliberate time to memorize every little thing about her. For some odd reason, the secret, the privacy, gave him a rush every time they were able to join together at the end of the night. Then, she wouldn't look away from him. Then, he was the one making her laugh and getting her drinks. Then, Kagome was in her pajamas, which usually consisted of one of his shirts and some shorts she'd left at his place the second time she'd spent the night, and good fucking lord was she beautiful when she dressed down. No one else got to see that. Not a single person in the room understood what he was lucky enough to experience.
And that's the way they liked it.
Things were more personal.
"Hey, guys!" Hojo shouted over the hubbub and music as they walked along with their drinks. Inuyasha couldn't help the small tension of shock that restricted his chest as the overly-joyous man lead him over to the group of girls they were supposed to stride passed. He kept his expression straight, waiting to see what would happen. "You all look great!"
"I know." A redhead joked, waving her hand dismissively.
"Hojo, you traitor. You're supposed to be hanging with us! We're cubicle buddies!" A skinny girl with short, black hair whined, almost high enough to offend Inuyasha's ears. He hid his grimace behind his refill of rum and coke.
"We're supposed to be mingling, you guys. These parties are meant for us to get out there and find out what the other floors in the building are like. So far, I've discovered the sixth floor is made up of mostly video game enthusiasts."
"The I.T. department?" The redhead laughed. Hojo chuckled too, all the while gesturing for Inuyasha to step in closer and join the circle.
"Speaking of mingling, introductions are in order. This is Yuka, Ayame, and Kagome. Guys, this is... oh wow, I'm so sorry. I never got your name back there."
"Inuyasha." He filled in, shaking their hands in the respective order, forcing himself not to linger on the last.
"So, Inuyasha." Yuka started, cocking a brow suggestively. From the daring look she was giving, he'd guess alcohol was her liquid courage. "What floor are you on? Give us the scoop on your department."
"I'm on the seventh floor, and we're a bunch of snobs."
"Do all the guys up there wear shirts as tight as yours?" Ayame asked, staring at his chest. Kagome elbowed her side, hissing her name with an embarrassed smile, giving her a subtle yet incredulous stare. Ayame held her ground.
"No. Not all the men up there are capable of filling them out.”
“Oh, I like him!” Ayame exclaimed, looking at Kagome with an amused smile while pointing back at Inuyasha. “I like you! You got jokes!”
As Kagome giggled, causing a riveting tingle to shoot down his back, he heard his name being called from the front of the room. Inuyasha peered over, glad he stood taller than the majority around him, and noticed some of the executives of the company ushering him over. As politely as possible, he excused himself, claiming it was nice to meet them all before stepping around the small group, choosing the back route and inconspicuously dragging his hand around the exposed small of Kagome’s back.
It wasn’t long after that he was itching to leave. He’d done his part and shown face, and none of the higher-ups expected the office to bring in the new year at a company party. Inuyasha checked his phone, noticing it was just barely past eleven, and texted Kagome.
Almost ready?
He’d lost track of her when he’d mingled with management, listening to them praise his father’s brand, something Inuyasha had chosen not to be a part of. Often, he received very shocked expressions when people learned that his dad owned his company, one his older brother was set to inherit, and were astonished Inuyasha hadn’t taken the same career path by following in his footsteps, and every time Inuyasha would scoff and reply by telling them he’s never had an interest in that business. He didn’t care for the easy route, and never wanted the responsibility of owning a company in the first place.
I thought you’d never ask.
I'll head out and catch a taxi. Meet me at the liquor market on 26th and Firn in 15.
I'll be there. <3
Inuyasha shoved his phone back into the deep pocket of his dress pants, making his way through the enthusiastic crowd of minorly intoxicated associates, scouting out the nearest exit. He was only stopped twice, the first time being by his own manager wishing him a good night, and the second time being by Miroku giving him shit because he was surprised he'd lasted as long as he had. The half demon couldn't argue, though he'd groaned for him to shut up. Nonetheless, he had a point. He was infamous for no-showing or leaving thirty minutes into any party he'd ever bothered appearing at, but Kagome was having a good time, and he selfishly couldn't deny himself the pleasure of seeing her in that cocktail dress she'd purchased just for tonight.
He checked out his jacket at the front lobby, and stepped into the chill of the final hour of December, waving down the first taxi he set his eyes on.
Kagome took her time bidding her friends goodbye, hugging the tipsy girls over and over until they deemed themselves satisfied enough to let go, whining about her leaving before the ball dropped- the projector shining on the screen at the front of the room and showing the countdown from New York. She used the excuse that she had a family party to stop in at, which was easy for them to accept. Hojo walked her out, helping to retrieve her sweater from the reception desk in the front lobby, and afterward waving down a taxi for her. He was sweet and considerate, and made sure to take care of all the girls in their cubicle buddy system.
As the cab door was shut behind her, and she'd waved goodbye to her friend through the slightly-tinted window, Kagome smiled at the driver, giving him the cross streets of their first location. They pulled into the parking lot where Inuyasha stood waiting, a brown, paper bag held in his arm. The smile on her face only got wider as he approached, opening the opposite side door and sliding in.
"Where to?" The driver asked, glancing back at the lovers through the rearview mirror.
"Rivernest and eighty-third. It's the blue building." Inuyasha replied.
"What's in the bag?" Kagome leaned over slightly, attempting to examine the contents he held, and he chuckled. The noise was breathy and simple, but enough to make her heart flutter furiously. It wasn't something she got to hear nearly as often as she wished, but something that held an intense effect on her well-being.
Inuyasha reached in, pulling each item out as he listed them off. "I've got Skittles, a bag of Hot Cheetos, a Slim Jim that isn't for you-"
She mock pouted.
"Water- drink it," He handed it over. "Peanut M&M's, and a coffee for you in the morning."
"You've never looked sexier." Kagome stated, looking at him astonishingly.
"Oh, yeah?" He laughed again, leaning inward.
"Yeah." She giggled, happily filling in the space as Inuyasha playfully pressed a kiss to her lips.
When they'd arrived, Inuyasha stepped out along the curb, ushering Kagome to slide out on his side, not wanting her to exit out into the street. The driver was tipped, and he took Kagome's hand to aid her, their fingers entwining the moment she was standing straight. Inuyasha wasn't about to let go of her. Not after having to watch her from across the room in the outfit she currently donned, not after being physically incapable of looking away for god knows how long. She was his, and this was the place and time he could express that.
In his loft, she set her clutch and the half-drunk bottle of water on the table, reaching down to unstrap her heels from her ankles. Inuyasha promptly stopped her, turning on all the lights necessary to take all of Kagome in her stunning, indefinite glory in, no longer having to worry about nonchalance or distractions. The way his lungs pressed out his inhale as his ember eyes swept over her from top to bottom, bottom to top, was a solemn reminder that he'd never felt this way in his life. How could one creature on this huge, overpopulated planet hold so much heart-sputtering power over him? Was he lucky or just plain delicate?
Both.
But who fucking cares?
The woman standing before him, biting her red-faded lip, blushing yet enjoying his attention would never take advantage of the open vulnerability he was showing, and for once in his life, he wasn't worried about the burn the electricity between them could potentially provide. Closing the offending distance between them, Inuyasha carefully cupped the crook of her jaw, tilting her mouth upward so he could capture it with his own. It was sweet, his tongue catching the lingering taste of the fruity alcohol she'd consumed, making it increasingly hard for him not to want to taste more. It was more intoxicating than the hard beverages he'd sipped all night, dragging him further and further into an abyss he hoped to never escape.
His kisses became more feverish with pressing need. Kagome was running her hands over his chest, pushing the coat from his shoulders and down his arms, which he discarded on the table they stood beside to be forgotten. Inuyasha spun her around, never hindering the dance of their lips, his hands finding the curve of her neck and gently guiding her to the back of the couch in the living room. Following suit, he pushed the sweater from her shoulders, allowing her a moment of breath.
She was dragging her hands down his abdomen, feeling as much as she could through the white, creaseless shirt, watching the way the fabric tightened as he inhaled. Slowly, her hands climbed back up, meeting the knot of his tie, pulling at the loop to simultaneously loosen the accessory and yank him back down to kiss her. Inuyasha didn't show an ounce of resistance, succumbing to her wishes and delighting her with the way his teeth teased her bottom lip, only separating long enough to pull the black garment over his head, minding his ears and ponytail, and meeting together again as she dropped it to the floor.
There was urgency in her movements now as Inuyasha pressed her into the back lining of the couch, the furniture heavy enough to stay put with their weight. The two were squeezed tightly together, his fingers clutching at the back of her hair as she pulled the tucked shirt from his fastened pants, giving her proper access to unbutton and remove the unnecessary item. His smooth, hot skin welcomed her, enveloped her, and Kagome let out a feeble noise she would have been embarrassed about on any other night.
She pushed him back, ignoring his concerned gaze as she openly gaped at the ridges of each individual muscle sculpting his stomach and sides, the rich, toned V in his lower abdominals disappearing beneath his black slacks. Inuyasha asked what was wrong, but Kagome just kept staring. Who looked this way without the help of photoshop? Again, he asked if she was okay, and Kagome exhaled sharply in disbelief, shaking her head as she pushed him back further to take as much of his physique in.
“How? How do you even look like this? What, is your trainer a Greek God or something?”
He laughed, causing his abdominals to flex beneath his skin, and Kagome groaned, lolling her head to the side in exasperation as she clutched his hardened sides once more.
“It’s not even fair.”
“You’re one to talk.”
“Yeah, yeah I look great, but this is makeup.” She gestured to her face. “That is…" She gestured wildly to his entire torso, trailing off with a powerful hnng sort of grunt.
Inuyasha blinked in surprise, his brows raised before nodding along with a smirk. “I’m sorry, what was that?”
“Don’t make me make the noise again.”
“I wanna hear the noise again.”
“I’m not making the noise again.”
“I didn’t catch it.”
“Oh well.”
“Get in the room.” Inuyasha twisted Kagome in the direction of the hall, smacking her butt to get her to walk. She giggled and wiggled her shoulders, turning and walking backwards as he followed her to his bedroom, flirtatiously sticking her tongue out at him.
At the entrance to the master bedroom, his girlfriend paused, waiting for him to catch up, and as soon as he was within reach, he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into his chest, capturing her lips in a heated kiss. The fingers of his free hand snaked into the thick strands of ebony hair at the back of her head, gripping once more, holding her mouth to his, because he wasn’t willing to let go. It was a straight shot to his bed, so there was no need to watch his footing, allowing their bodies to fall onto the mattress. Kagome always teased him for having a bed so large it didn’t matter which way you were laying in order to fit, but he didn’t hear her complaining as they climbed further sideways onto the soft pillow top.
Reluctantly, the half demon retracted from Kagome, sitting to the side and pulling her ankles into his lap. It was easy to undo the straps of her shoes, throwing them off the bed to land wherever. Then he stood on his knees, wagging his finger for her to follow suit. She did so, a seductive smile barely slighting her lips. It didn’t need to be said aloud for him to know that she loved being told what to do. She loved playful spankings, and she loved when he kissed her just above the freckle on her collar bone. She loved when he took his time, and even when he was too eager not to. She loved being teased. She loved being ravished. Most importantly, though, she loved when he undressed her. Without instigation, Kagome slid the mass of her hair over one shoulder getting it out of the way of Inuyasha’s fingers as he fiddled with the button at the back of the choker, his lips hovering just above hers until he got it free. Careful of his claws, he dragged the backs of his knuckles down her sides, feeling the smooth skin of her ribcage just before it became hidden beneath the crease of cotton and lace. Dragging them further, he finally found the soft flesh of her thighs, bellowing his name as loudly as they had been at the New Years party. He’d almost gotten lost in the feeling, forgetting the purpose of his travels. If it weren’t for Kagome closing the space and sealing their lips together, he probably would have never escaped his blissful, thigh-absorbed reverie. Inuyasha used the moment to trail his hands back up her skin, gliding beneath the skirt of her dress, simultaneously pushing the garment upward as he felt nothing more than silky skin.
Realizing why, Inuyasha stopped, pulling back from her kiss as he inspected Kagome’s bottom with his curious hands once more. “Did you…”
She laughed, fidgeting from his grope until he finally pulled the entire dress over her shoulders, drinking in the naked sight of her. Now he was the one giving constrained grunts from his throat, falling over her until she collided with the mattress once more. Kagome was giggling as he playfully littered her entire face with kisses, dancing down her body until he reached the plush of her legs, all the while undoing his belt and pushing his pants down as far as he could go.
He was at the point where complete nudeness, on his level, just wasn’t important anymore. Nothing was more significant than taking her, claiming her. Gently settling down, he slid inside, completely washed in molting heat. The color on Kagome’s lips was just about gone, probably smudged on his own, and as he watched her bite down, hardly stifling her whine, the thought wilted away like a malnourished rose.
Kagome had a way of matching his rhythm and declaring it her own. She could tell him what she wanted, how she wanted it, but just sighing and rolling her hips. He’d never deny her. Whatever created those delicious, heavenly sighs was his guide through the night. When she grabbed his hips, digging her nails in, the half demon groaned, aching wonderfully within Kagome, snagging her wrists and pinning them over her head. She thought she was sneaky, but he saw the smile she tried to hide.
He knew how close she was as her beautiful figure began to writhe beneath him, the sounds from her mouth less controlled. This was what he’d wanted to do since the moment he’d set eyes on her hours ago. He had a dignified sense of control, but with Kagome, it all blew to hell. Nothing mattered. Not when he was presented with the opportunity to worship the one woman who’s single-handedly, and unknowingly, managed to break down every defense system he’s generated. He only bickered and resisted for show. In actuality, she had him wrapped around her finger like the fated string that brought her walking past his office. She tensed and arched her back, moaning a broken version of his name, throwing him over a ledge that ended with him clutching her, kissing her, soaking up every last drop of her, silently thanking her for being his.
“I love you.” She later said through the crunch of a Hot Cheeto, muffled by the audio of the movie he’d put on, dressed to the nines in his old Guns N’ Roses tee.
Inuyasha glanced over, enriched and engulfed in total adoration. He held his half-eaten Slim Jim out for her to bite. “I love you, too."

THE AWARD NOMINATED FIC CONTINUES! Now nominated for the 2020 3rd Quarterly Inuyasha fandom awards for best dark! This is the second time I've been nominated for best dark, you guys trying to tell me something? LOL! Maybe I should post a comedy soon? I do love writing a dark plot for Inuyasha though...
Speaking of posting fics, I have a couple up to bat for next. I was wondering if you guys would be interested in having a say? I could post the choices on Tumblr? If that is something you'd want or if you don't tumble and want me to post them in my ANs, let me know!
Thank you all for your support. Another nomination... I mean I was blown away with the first one! This really is a great Fandom. I had honestly considered leaving fanfiction completely until I entered this one. Now I want to stay! My originals are going to suffer but oh well I guess. I'm almost done with one original and I'm super excited about it! I might take a small break from originals once it's done and out to publishers to work on some fanfiction. I also still don't have a keyboard, typing on my screen currently. If I thought I had gorilla fingers before... Top of my list to finish, Daddy Issues (SM) and STYH.
Anyway, enjoy all!

Chapter Eight
"Didn't...Inuyasha say something about a six-year-old?" Kagome asked, pulling a stool near and sitting to listen intently to Miroku.
"Inuyasha was six, living with his mother with no word from his father when he met Naraku. His father was never in his life and his mother didn't know a damn thing about demons. So when Naraku found Inuyasha and tried to pull him into his gang, Inuyasha cried as loud and as hard as he could about the bad man trying to steal him. Naraku fought back against the cops, of course, but this was around the time that anti-demon repulsion was coming into fashion. Naraku didn't know what hit him and it was all thanks to Inuyasha that the cops even knew what to use on the fucker."
"Okay.. so Naraku hates Inuyasha. With the looks around the yard, I would think that would be in his favor?"
Miroku huffed, "Yes and no. Naraku will crush anything that Inuyasha touches so no one touches him. And Naraku was one of the demons that helped in the purge."
"Hold on, is that what demon killer meant?"
"Yes. The purge of 06 was carried out by demons."
She felt sick, swallowing thickness beach down her throat. "Why would demons do that to each other?"
"Well, ones like Sesshomaru were promised their freedom. Which of course they didn't get. But Naraku… he did it for power. And the idiots that ran this place back then let him get away with consuming countless demons before cutting him off. He killed about a hundred demons and thirty humans that day."
"You were there?"
"No. I'm not that old! Geez, woman! No, my father was there. He was a guard once before his curse consumed him."
She brushed the back of his cursed hand. "It will consume you too?"
Miroku nodded and moved on quickly. A sore subject. "Inuyasha's reputation isn't helped by the fact that he put a lot of the demons in here."
Her head was starting to spin. "Inuyasha was part of the Anti-Demon Squad?"
"Ug. Always hated that name. So contrite."
"You were on it too?"
"Yes. We were partners. Hence why he tolerates me. But then the tables turned and we were the ones on the wanted boards. All because he has demon blood in his veins and my curse."
"I was thrown in here, too, for being different." They had a short moment of solidarity and moved on. "If you both hunted demons then why does no one hurt the people you touch?"
Without saying a word, he lifted his cursed hand and waved it. "I'm also not a half-demon. That's frowned upon by both sides apparently. Never bothered me. Who he's related to also doesn't help. Plus, I don't have Naraku gunning for me. Inuyasha never had a chance, getting thrown in here."
"Couldn't he have lobbied for a different prison? There are at least… three?"
Miroku shook his head, "the public wasn't told this, but after the purge, they knocked it down to one prison."
"But..but...that means…"
"All the caught demons are all right here in one convenient spot. Cuts down on funding"
"So if this place becomes overpopulated again…"
"Luckily new demons don't come in much anymore. With people like me and Inuyasha no longer on the force," Miroku gloated, "they don't catch that many anymore."
She huffed, "for such a good demon catcher, you'd think you'd avoid getting caught!"
"Yes, well, what do all humans end up getting caught up in no matter how hard they try?"
It took her no time at all to figure that one out. "You? And Inuyasha?"
"Inuyasha's girlfriend turned him in while I," he sighed heavily at the memory, "I was turned in by one hell of an enchantress."
Kagome had gotten caught saving the man she once loved. There was nothing she could say on the subject, she was just as pathetic as they were.
"Inuyasha is just trying to protect you the only way he can. If everyone thinks he hates you, they'll leave you alone. Although now I'm not so sure there's a point. Looks like Naraku has it out for you regardless. What did you do to get in his sights?"
Rolling her eyes and her stool away, she started straightening up to leave. "I took some blood. He didn't want me to but I didn't have a choice! The Warden was breathing down my neck. I don't regret it, doing it got me this infirmary and now I can do what I love, helping people."
"They're not people, Kagome. They're demons."
"Same difference!"
"No. Not really. If it weren't for the runes they wouldn't even need a Doctor."
"Well there are runes and I am needed."
"Runes or not, you're definitely needed here, Kagome."
She was still thinking it over, but now she was sure. A talk with the Warden was a necessity.
oOo
It didn't take as long as she expected for the Warden to find time for her, stopping by the infirmary. And he didn't give her a fight on her sleeping in there either like she thought he would. Either her argument, being ready even in the middle of the night to help and not needing much guarding like the demons in the prison, worked really well or Onigumo had other reasons. She didn't kid herself, the grin he wore the entire conversation told her it was the latter.
What he gained from her being here, she didn't know but she gained as well, getting away from Inuyasha.
Miroku's story that day had been nice, it was good to know someone in here had a heart. But it also showed her what having a heart did to people here. Inuyasha would forever suffer more than the other inmates. They could connect with others, maybe even fall in love and have some kind of life in here. Inuyasha could never have that.
So really, she was doing him a favor. Getting out of his hair would only make things easier for him. This way, he no longer had to force himself to care or not about her.
Inuyasha wasn't in the cell when she got her things, a few extra pairs of scrubs was all she had, and she was glad for that. The last thing she wanted to do was explain and see the relief spread across his face. Now a few weeks later and she almost never saw Inuyasha, proof positive that he was glad to be rid of her and she tried not to let it bother her.
It was a good thing, that didn't mean she was happy about it.
Now the keys to the infirmary were hers for good, locking everything away and pocketing the keys when the door opened. Koga was leaning heavily on one of his men, blood dripping to the floor. Pointing to the bed without a word, she got the needed items and pushed her stool to his side. His friend left, shutting the door behind him.
"What happened?"
Koga glanced at the wound like it was nothing, a long and angry line that continued to drip blood on the floor would be nothing but a scratch to a demon under normal circumstances. "Your friend attacked me."
"Excuse me?" Her disbelief was rolling off her tongue.
"Kagura. I think she was hoping for solitary. Wants to be back beside her man."
That actually made sense. Sesshomaru got a couple days a week out of solitary and those days were spent enjoying the cooler days outside or with Kagura. Usually both at the same time. It was really endearing, the cool-headed Sesshomaru falling at the feet of the hot-tempered Kagura. She should really have a conversation with Kagura, see if she could get her to come to the infirmary for a private meeting.
"Kagome," Koga grabbed one of her hands and stopped her work, "I'm glad we have a moment together like this. I wanted to give you another chance to think about my offer…"
She pulled roughly from his hold. "I told you, no. I don't need or want your protection…"
"Why? Because you have the Hanyou's?" She remained silent and Koga snickered, "He won't protect you. Not from everything. And he's nothing compared to Naraku, who has a hardon for you."
They both ignored the small jump in her chest at the mention of that name. "Naraku is locked away in solitary."
"For now. They let him out every now and then you know? Not as often as Sesshomaru, obviously. And there are other things to be protected from."
Kagome hadn't had many struggles since she'd been here, focusing on wrapping his wound instead of his words. Because they were false. "I'm fine."
"Of course you are! Because of me! The only reason you've had it so good is because I've kept you from the worst of it this whole time!" He shouted at the top of her head.
He was like a child, acting out when he didn't get the attention he wanted. So she didn't give him what he wanted, continuing to watch her hands. "I'd prefer it to being your woman. I know what happens to them."
Silence rang out for a few solitary moments. Then Koga took her hand again, stopping her work to her agitation. "It wouldn't be like that, Kagome. I… I like you. I want you to myself."
Throughout her life, Kagome had received a few confessions. Each time it was a shock. She never once thought of herself as someone 'wanted' or 'likable' like that. She was self-confident to a healthy level, but she never took the time to consider others romantically. Even Hojo, it took her some time to collect herself and give him an answer when he confessed. But, even though it was a surprise, she knew she felt nothing of the kind back to Koga.
"I… appreciate that. And your protection. But I can't give you anything more than friendship. I'm sorry."
Roaring, he got up at that, standing over the bed and her with a glare that had his eyes glowing. "You'll regret this, Doctor."
His continued immaturity was on full display as he stomped out. Kagome just found it annoying. She made it through her younger years unscathed only to get locked up and deal with bullies like this? It would be laughable if it wasn't so sad.
oOo
It started out small, the differences in 'life without Koga's protection'. Mostly just more kid's stuff.
The nods she used to get turned from grimaces to indifference thanks to Naraku, making the hazing that much easier to occur. Someone would walk by her at lunch and tug her hair. It hurt but it wasn't enough to scare her into Koga's arms. Next, it was shoving. In line for food, out in the yard, walking around in the halls. Then tripping.
All they were really doing was making her look and feel like a klutz.
Combine the three and it hurt pretty bad though, especially when they didn't let go of her hair until after she hit the floor hard. By now she knew who to look for too. And for some reason, it was Koga's women. That had her a little worried that things would only get worse and that he would eventually send his men after her. No way was she going to break though, she refused to be someone's bitch. She'd rather be beaten to a pulp.
Which was very likely to happen before Koga's pack went all out, his women clustering around her for another dose of 'life'. They had already gotten her in the cafeteria today but it looked like they were upping their treatment, coming up from behind as usual.
Hands on her back, she knew what was coming and stepped to the side. This didn't stop them from tripping her but it did keep them from getting a hold on her hair. Her long braided cord was still aching from when they tried to rip it from her head earlier. Her side step put her on a different path, one that had her colliding with another body once she lost her equilibrium. Or rather had it forced from her instead of lost.
It was the first time in weeks she hadn't face planted to the floor. Instead, her face was planted firmly in a chest that had hands wrapped around her biceps. "Oi watch where you're going!"
Slowly lifting her head, Kagome prayed she'd heard wrong but it was undeniable even before golden eyes glared down at her. She had successfully avoided Inuyasha since the day she moved into the infirmary. Three weeks of not seeing his molten orbs on her and now she was practically on top of him.
She wasn't a fool. He was avoiding her too. How else could it be possible, a large jail but not that large, that she didn't see so much as a wisp of his white locks disappearing around a corner? He wasn't avoiding her now, his hands still on her even as she got her bearings. His glare quickly passed from her to the women softly cackling behind her. Their laughter stopped but Kagome knew their hazing was far from finished.
The women moved on but Inuyasha still had his hands on her, slowly turning from holding to rubbing. "You alright?"
She shrugged off his question but not his touch, missing it more than she cared to admit. "I'm fine. Nothing I can't handle."
"Koga is trying to pressure you…"
"I know," she sighed, "he confessed to me a few weeks ago…" Inuyasha tensed but she ignored it, "I told him I just wanted to be friends…"
Now he laughed, the sound echoing off the walls and a few others that passed by. Inuyasha didn't seem to have any struggle being seen touching her all of a sudden. But there weren't many around to see this. "I wish I could have been there to see that!"
"You didn't need to be. Because he responded the same as he is now. Childish pranks and hazing. People are so immature here!"
"Demons," he corrected her again, "and most have been locked up in here since before puberty. They don't know how to act like adults." His hold dropped and he started to back away. "So how did kids in your schools act when they didn't get their way?"
She knew the answer and she didn't like it. "I get it. Any advice on making it stop?"
He was leaving her behind so she followed at a distance. "If Koga wants you to be his 'girl' then there's really only one way to make it stop. Unless you want to be his?"
Turning to look at her over his shoulder, Inuyasha teased her in a manner that had her wondering if he was actually curious. "Yeah, that's a big 'no'."
He chuckled, turning back around. If anyone were to watch them it would look like she was just walking behind him, not that they were having a conversation. "Then you gotta become someone else's bitch."
"Nope. No way. Forget it, I'll just take the hazing."
He stopped and spun to face her. "Even if that includes getting your bones turned to paste? Can't help others with only one arm."
"I'm a Doctor in a jail infirmary. Not a surgeon in the cancer ward. One arm will serve me well enough." His eyes went impossibly wide at that but she ignored it. "Can I pretend to be someones? Like you?"
Taking a step, he removed the distance between them. "I don't pretend."
Maybe he was trying to scare her? It was pointless, she didn't fear Inuyasha in the slightest. Of all the people here, he was the only one she trusted to the fullest. It was why her heart picked up its pace whenever he was close. The fact that he was drop-dead gorgeous didn't help though, his strong jaw flexing more the longer she held her ground and head up to him. Crossing her arms over her chest and hoping to muffle the sound, she took a slow and deep breath. Not to speak, but to breathe in his Earthy scent that she had missed.
"Okay."
He broke first, shaking his head. "No. Even faking a relationship with me would only bring you more trouble."
"Would it? Naraku already has it out for me. And everyone here may hate me but they won't touch me thanks to my Doctor status."
His mouth hung open for a moment, thoughts turning in his head. But then it slammed shut and he seethed. "Miroku."
"Yep."
"What else did that damn gossip tell you?"
She kept her mouth shut and shook her head. Anything else that Miroku had told her was more like hearsay, it didn't really tell her anything about the man before her. And she rather hear the details from Inuyasha when he was ready, not forced to explain.
"Doesn't matter. Things would only get worse if you associate with me. Which, you know or you wouldn't be living in the infirmary." His tone was accusing and she took great offense.
"I moved out so you'd have one less thing to worry about. Besides, I was tired of the angry puppy routine."
"Dog references. Nice." He said with a grimace.
"You're welcome!" She smirked.
She watched the corners of his mouth fight with him for a moment, wanting to smile but not before her so they ended up twitching. "You should talk to Miroku. I'm sure he'd looove to have you as his 'bitch'."
Kagome wasn't too sure about that but Inuyasha knew him better than she did. Giving him a nod, she expected the 'conversation' to end. Except Inuyasha reached up and gently pulled the small elastic out of her hair. She never asked how but Kagura had given her a few from her 'stash' of hair supplies. And now it was around Inuyasha's wrist like a bracelet.
While her hair still maintained its shape, it was only a matter of seconds before it completely unfurled. That wasn't fast enough for Inuyasha, carefully loosening her strands until they fell apart, a long cape down her back. He stared at her for a few more heart-pounding seconds, breathing in deeply like she had moments ago when he got close and her lungs weren't restricted from his actions.
"Just wear your hair up and out of reach. It won't be much longer till they cut it off like a trophy. Probably what Koga wants them to do the most."
Swallowing hard, she kept her eyes on his, watching as he looked all around her face, neck, and shoulders. As if drinking her in. "What would he do with something like that?"
Instead of answering her question like a normal person, he reached over and took a handful of her hair. Then pressed it to his nose as an example, closing his eyes as he breathed in her scent deeply. It confused her body because she really liked him smelling her, oddly, but that mixed with the image of Koga doing the same thing. Inuyasha was a dog and Koga a wolf. So although different, they would have many things in common like their addiction to smells. If Kagome went by Inuyasha, she must smell really good to those with sensitive noses.
Suddenly, he dropped her hair and stepped back. She had forgotten that the distance between them wasn't the norm, feeling the heat of his skin on hers he was so close.
Turning on his heels, Inuyasha shoved his hands into his pockets and quickly moved away from her. "Just make sure it's a fake relationship with Miroku."
He called to her, not turning to speak to her as he was too busy getting as far away as possible. Inuyasha was out of sight when she realized he didn't get her back her hair tie.

“Today is the big day, Koji,” Kagome told the toddler at breakfast. Inuyasha was walking with Shippo to the village to drop him off at Sango and Miroku’s for the next few days, so it was only the mother and the boy.
Koji looked up briefly from mashing his rice into mochi, his eyebrow lifted inquisitively at the tone of his mother’s voice.
Kagome nodded, smiling wide and looking at him.  “Today we’re going to go meet Grandma and Great-Grandpa. Maybe your uncle will be there too!” Kagome clapped her hands in excitement, leaning forward to lower her face to Koji’s. “Isn’t it exciting?”
Koji had no idea what was in store for him, but he was always willing to join the fun. He gasped loudly, a broad smile crossing his face and clapped his hands messily together. He laughed with his mother and rocked back and forth a little bit, before lifting his arms up, requesting to be held.
Kagome obliged and lifted him into her embrace, blowing raspberries towards him to continue his laughter.
She knew she should cherish the moment of happiness because as soon as the sling was brought out, he was going become defiant.
They had some success before with putting him in the sling for a few hours, while Kagome worked on the garden or Inuyasha worked in the fields with the men. But as Koji got a little bit older, and a little bit more secure in his surroundings, his personality started to come through.
And like almost every toddler before him, his personality had a bit of a stubborn streak at this age.
He was becoming willful, less likely to be appeased with hugs and kisses when upset, although a little bit of food almost always soothed his raging emotions. Shippo was also a constant source of distraction, the older child willing to play and amuse the toddler as best as he could.
But sometimes, even Shippo wasn’t enough, and a temper tantrum was unavoidable.
Koji was often the most distraught whenever he was contained in any capacity. He hated having to put on sandals to walk outside; he hated having to be bathed when he found a good and wet mud puddle; he hated have to wait for dinner when he could smell it cooking right there.
He was always completely besides himself whenever it came to taking a nap now, not willing to stay down for more than a few minutes, even with a parent next to him. Inuyasha or Kagome would lie down on their sides, tucking him close and trying to sing to him, but he would squirm and move away as best as he could from their grasp, whining and whimpering the whole time.
Whichever parent wasn’t on the futon would have to guard the door because of the mad dash Koji would make as soon as he got his feet under him. He would try to stay awake, tossing and turning, kicking his feet to keep himself active, until he was so tired, he was almost angry with the world.
Then he would crash and sleep for hours. Sometimes he slept too long, and wouldn’t go down for bedtime, creating midnight chaos in the hut as he sought to keep himself busy.
It was a gamble every morning if he was feeling cooperative that day, or if he had his own agenda for to fulfill.
Kagome often teased her husband over this mercilessly, often commenting, “I wonder if it’s an inu thing, to be so stubborn for no reason?”
Inuyasha would grunt and toss her an unamused look while he tried to reason with her. “You’re stubborn too, woman,” he would retort, snorting in her direction.
Kagome heard Inuyasha walking back up the trail, which told her that he was making ample noise so Koji could hear his father walking up. Sure enough, the bright red ears, which had become richer in color as the boy became richer in health, perked up.
Koji squirmed to get back down, ready to greet his father as he came into the house. He stood at the genkan, bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet in excitement.
Inuyasha pulled back the reed door covering just enough to stick his face in and see his son standing there, a big smile pulled across his face. Inuyasha’s mouth tilted up in return, although not as big as his son’s.
Pushing forward even more, Inuyasha’s whole head was in the hut, but the rest of his body was on the outside. Kagome knew that he was trying to prolong this moment of happiness, where Koji was excited that he was home.
He also knew that this moment would only last for so long. As soon as he stepped into the hut and Koji saw the sling wrapped around his father’s chest, all hell would break loose.
Kagome continued to clean up from breakfast, separating scraps to go into the compost pile for her budding garden.
Inuyasha played a few rounds of peek-a-boo with Koji, using the door covering as his hiding place. Koji, for his part, would cover his eyes with his hands, giggling with such enthusiasm that he was unable to join in on the speaking part of the game.
Kagome silently thanked her husband for stalling the inevitable long enough for her to be able to clean up from breakfast and sort out their hut. It would be at least a day, if not longer, before they came back to it, and she always felt better when returning to a clean and sorted space.
Once she finished, she watched the game between boy and father for a while, sitting on her legs with her hands folded lightly in her lap. Koji had developed the type of laugh that squealed at the very end of it, and Kagome smiled and chuckled softly every time he shrieked.
He had become so happy and relaxed compared to their first few days with him.
She wondered if he remembered anything of his past.
Eventually, Koji became tired of the game, and stepped off the floor into the genkan to gain access to his father’s legs, which he clutched with such ferocity that Inuyasha squawked, “What do you think you’re doing there, bud?”
Koji just laughed and squeezed harder.
Kagome rose from her position on the floor, dusting her legs mildly. “Well,” she spoke to her husband, “shall we?”
Inuyasha waddled through the door, toddler-bound and unable to walk normally.
“Yeah,” he said, pushing aside the door covering and finally completely entering the home, “suppose we should.”
Koji had yet to see the baby sling draped loosely around Inuyasha’s torso, as he was focused on peering through Inuyasha’s legs to the outside.
Kagome picked up the few items they were going to bring with them through the well, including a blanket from the hut and one of Koji’s favorite bowls, on the off chance he was unwilling to eat from his grandma’s dishes. She secured the items in a large cloth, accepting Inuyasha’s help to tie it around her shoulders for ease of travel.
Kagome looked down at the boy, observing the outside world from the safety of his father’s legs. “Time to go, Koji,” she called to him. Koji looked over at the sound of his name.
Kagome squatted down and held her arms out. Koji shoved his head back between Inuyasha’s legs and gave her no more attention.
“Koji…” Kagome called again, hoping he would come to her and she wouldn’t have to extract him from Inuyasha.
A singular ear flicked at her, but he didn’t turn.
Kagome dropped her hands to her knees and looked up at Inuyasha, her eyes filled with unspoken accusations.
This was the exact attitude Inuyasha threw at her too.
Inuyasha looked away sheepishly, avoiding eye contact as best as he could.
Kagome tried one last time cooing out, “Koji baby, come here.” But the boy didn’t budge.
Inuyasha wiggled his legs back and forth, attempting to disrupt the boy from his task. “Koji,” he said, his voice loud and firm.
Koji pulled his head back and looked up at Inuyasha, questions in his gaze.
“Time to go to Mama.”
Koji rolled backwards, laying on the ground while looking straight up at Inuyasha. He tossed his arms above his head and splayed his legs out. His parents recognized that he was feeling dramatic today from this action. Kagome waited for the whines that she knew were going to come.
Silence remained, however.
Koji regarded his father fully. He narrowed his eyes when he saw the sling and his face furrowed together. Inuyasha’s ears pulled back, more out of a reflex than anything else. A face like that meant a temper tantrum was inbound.
Koji stared for a long while, contemplating his options. Kagome wanted to pick him up and just start walking, knowing he would carry on for a bit in protest, but she also knew that if she took this faster than Koji wanted to, she risked a prolonged and bigger fit.
So, she waited for Koji’s next move.
Inuyasha knew that he was now the focus of Koji’s undivided attention for the time being, because he had the sling on his body. The full body roll away from him also told him that Koji was most likely not going to tolerate being put in the swing very well, and he was probably going to be a very upset child for the majority of the day.
Inuyasha stared back at Koji, refusing to back down. Koji’s eyes began to water, and Inuyasha felt his heart break at the sight. But he didn’t waiver in his stance, nor give any indication that he was going to cave.
He and Kagome had agreed that tonight, the night of the New Moon, was the best night to go to her time. They feared that Koji might have a rather extreme reaction to his father’s human night, and worried he might make noise that animals or other things would come to investigate. If they were in Kagome’s time at least, there was no worry of a stray dog or what not coming into their home to see what the fuss was about.
That meant Inuyasha wouldn’t have to worry about chasing the critter out while appeasing a worried baby.
They had put off going to Kagome’s time until Koji had become more comfortable and secure in his surroundings, but as the first night Koji would see Inuyasha human approached, so did their options.
Koji was just going to have to tolerate being in the sling for a little while.
Koji finally looked away, rolling onto his side, then his hands and knees. He pushed him self up and crawled into Kagome’s arms, which were still placed on her knees but moved to embrace him.
He didn’t fuss or make a noise. Kagome tossed a questioning glance up at her husband, who also was confused by the turn of events.
For whatever reason, unknown to either parent, Koji had opted out of a tantrum.
Koji stood between his mother’s legs and buried his face into her shoulder. He didn’t cry our make much of a noise. Kagome held him close and rubbed his back for a moment, before scooping him up to be able to stand.
Inuyasha helped Kagome get her shoes on, so she wouldn’t have to try to let go of Koji, and together they left the hut.
They walked side by side down the well-traveled path to the well. Neither of them spoke the short journey, but they exchanged confused and concerned glances.
Koji clung to Kagome the entire way there.
Miroku met them at the well. He had agreed prior to stand at the bottom incase Koji wasn’t able to get through and take of the boy until his parents got back.
Miroku smiled at them, patting Koji’s back lightly once the family was in reach.
“Big day today,” the uncle spoke to his nephew. Koji’s ears pulled low into his hair but he didn’t react otherwise. Inuyasha looked at his friend and shrugged.
Kagome’s mouth moved into a very small smile – one that did not reach her eyes. “I don’t think he’s having any of it.”
Miroku nodded his understanding. “I can see that,” he gently spoke. “The girls can be like this too sometimes.”
Miroku looked over at Inuyasha, removing his hand from Koji’s back and smiling at his friend. “It’s all a part of being a toddler.”
Inuyasha accepted the politely worded advice from his friend, and Kagome nodded as well. Miroku made further small talk for a moment, asking how their morning went others, but there was little to say.
Kagome and Inuyasha wrangled with Koji’s death grip while Miroku climbed into the bottom of the well to prepare for the journey across centuries. Once Koji was extracted from Kagome and put into the sling, not without a bit of a fight from the boy who made his body as rigid as it would go, Kagome gave him a kiss on his forehead and kiss to his father.
“See you in a few,” Kagome told her boys before jumping down the well.
Koji’s eyes went wide at the sight of the light emanating from the well, and he leaned out of the sling just enough to look for his mother. When he didn’t see her – only Miroku at the bottom – he tensed up and swung his body back, smashing hard into Inuyasha’s chest.
“We’re next,” Inuyasha told the boy, patting his head with one large hand. Using his strength and claws, Inuyasha slowly descended into the well. Miroku kept his arms out and ready as Inuyasha put his feet on the dirt floor of the well shaft.
For a brief moment, the men looked at each other. Then, a bright light encapsulated Inuyasha, and thusly Koji.
Miroku was left standing alone at the base of the well. All went as planned.
Pulling the vines that trailed down, Miroku began his climb out of the well. He picked up his staff, left on the ground at the top and began to walk back to his own family, assured that his friends were well and safe on the other side.
