Just in case anyone wondered exactly how Shinichi missed his personal encounter with aptx4869.

On one hand, now Kaito has to *shudder* pretend he likes a detective, because he has to keep consistency. On the other hand, now he's Ran's favorite, which gives Shinichi endless grief.

The one using Katakana is the Pandora au 😂 I guess I was bored when making that folder.

There is not much to say about the Pandora au - I‘m a sucker for the immortal trope though the theme is always kinda depressing so I‘m not sure what else to do with it. Like with every au I‘d like to have it wrapped up and I also really liked the noir-theme I had going there. Maybe I‘ll get back to it someday when inspiration hits me or I have more time to deal with an actual story for this. There is one more comic I have in mind for this but it‘s very depressing so let‘s see when I deal with that. Sorta goes with the „every dies but me“ theme, can‘t expect too much happiness there. 😂 🙈

As for the shrunken AU - I have it planned til the part where he meets Conan, which is probably later than you‘d expect. Kaito tries to settle things on his own first. I thought about continuing this before but just in black in white but uni and other projects have priority at the moment so I‘ll just work on this one on the sidelines. Also I‘m not sure what to do with them after they meet and have everything settled. Shrunken au‘s always have the tendency to get rather long because Conan‘s been shrunken for 20+ years and has gotten nowhere so I would aim for a plot where things progress a bit quicker so that an end is actually in sight. (Don‘t say anything about SC) But yes, I definitely want to continue this one day, features lots of helpless cute Kaito and I haven‘t drawn a comic with actual Conan yet (I think?) so I get to draw this cute smarty-pants as well. 🎉

My Aptx!AU sypnosis is here.

(Cont.) Arthur LeBlanc (shrunken Hakuba) joined the Detective Boys and was invited, along with the KID Killer (he already hate that name) to a heist at one of Suzuki Jirokichi’s wealthy acquaintances’s. The target this time is a Chalice, recent excavated from a sight of an ancient holy battle.

Despite telling Kaito that he would not compromise his conscience and aid him in the heist, Hakuba found himself easily disregarding that boundary when the situation became complicated (a person presented at the heist is a BO member) and Kaito’s identity is at risk. In the end, he would always choose Kaito. What he didn’t expect was for that sentiment to be reciprocated…

He already has!! His dad was so well known for his disguise skills, but kaito is now shrunk and short and can’t really do that anymore

(I was also thinking of another route where he'll just shrink you down, chewing and poking at you playfully with his tongue, before swallowing you whole, keeping you safe in his tummy forever. I don't know what's the line that separates cannibalism and vore, aren't they sort of the same?)

HE IS SO.......... WWAAAAAAAA OTL my favorite murder eel who can shock my heart anytime he wants. I want to write a lot about the concept of monstrous love and the different types of hunger and how they apply to Jade with his big appetite (for both food and perhaps even love). There's a lot to explore!!!! He's such an enigma!!! I wonder if he's ever considered doing mukbang.... OMG,,,,,, mukbang on the dark web, but it's just Jade eating a spread of various human parts he's prepared. Scary... ;;;;; or maybe you're right there with him and he's making you join him even though you don't want to. :( terrible eel!!!!

While I don't write for vore and so this may be incorrect, my understanding is that cannibalism and vore are both different in their own respects. The similarity is that there's a focus on consumption, but the difference is that there's more brutality in cannibalism, as well as a focus on the build-up to inevitable feasting. Likely torture aspects, how the person is killed and later prepared, and so on. More gore and perhaps even violence; it's messy. The end result, in most cases, is death if [insert character here] has killed you and is cooking and eating you in parts. With vore, I think there's more emphasis on the relationship or dynamic between predator and prey and how there's not usually gore involved (although I'm sure there could be), merely just the act of being swallowed alive and whole and then being kept in the predator's stomach, whether to be digested or not.

HOWEVER!!!!! The idea of being shrunken down to a small size...... macro/micro with Jade........ being a smol fairy who the twins capture and put in a jar and......... :) Jade holding you up by your wings, pinching them in two fingers, and dangling you over a bubbling cauldron or the batter for a cake he's baking and acting as if he might drop you in............. he's the worst. >:( but Floyd with a little fairy darling is cute because I think he'd put you in a dollhouse and watch you sleep because you're so cute and he has to restrain himself from just,,,, crushing you in his fist because the cuteness aggression has him in a chokehold. >_<

Aaaaaa I love the idea of yan!Jade always thinking with his stomach even when it comes to love. He's hungry for your heart in more ways than one. To use my blog's catchphrase, he's after your heart. <3 hehehe!!!

But on the subject of cannibalism, there's a Vocaloid song called The Last Supper in which Len is sick with a seemingly incurable disease and no food can seem to sate him; so Kaito and Gakupo feed him all kinds of foods in hopes of finding one that pleases his bottomless appetite, but eventually they run out of ingredients and so they offer themselves to Len. This concept but with a royal!darling and butler!tweels........... but then maybe they just feed you Azul instead. T_T he has eight tentacles; maybe he can spare one to help you overcome your insatiable hunger, but then maybe that ends with you getting attached to the taste of Zuzu. Maybe he was a prisoner in the palace dungeons......... hmhmhmmmm many thoughts. >:D

I think it’s 1. Hakuba is just like that and doesn’t know Conan is actually a teenager in the body of a child.

Yes actually! I agree. I put out three different options before just because I was rambling and trying to play devil's advocate with myself a bit, but I do actually think that Hakuba doesn't know Conan is actually a teen.

And now I'm gonna ramble some more to explain why I think that way, because I love Hakuba and I'm just gonna hyperfixate anyway so may as well type it all out.

So to start with, he doesn't know Conan is a shrunken teen, and that has nothing to do with his skill as a detective, the evidence just isn't in front of him. Hakuba doesn't know enough about Shinichi to start putting things together; even Hattori at least had met Shinichi once and had some circumstantial evidence before he started to get suspicious. Hakuba also doesn't have reason to believe that people can be de-aged, actually if anything his experience with Kid has reinforced in his mind that a teen or adult would not be able to pass as a child. Without having one of those angles to approach from it's hard to make the leap of logic required to recognize that Conan isn't just a smart 6 year old.

With that in mind if you look at his first appearance in Detective Conan (The Gathering of Great Detectives), he actually doesn't question or concern himself with Conan's presence from the start. Even Hattori (and yes, I'm going to keep using Hattori as a comparison here) had tried to keep Conan away from crime scenes and such at first, but Hakuba doesn't do that, and granted no one else in the Gathering of Great Detective's really does either. Hakuba sees this person that he believes to be an innocent child in what is clearly a trap for this group of detectives set by using Kid's name - and Hakuba knows it's a trap, this isn't Kid's style after all- so what does he do? He follows the child's plan. Because it's a good plan and the only grievance he has with it is that he'll have to get fake blood on his clothes.

He doesn't belittle Conan for his perceived age. He doesn't worry about him being traumatized despite expressing that he was glad Ran had been put to sleep so she didn't have to witness the cruelty of the plan. He doesn't question Conan's right to be there. And he doesn't try to protect Conan at all.

And if you were to ask me why that is...

I think there are actually a number of different factors behind it, but the most important one is that by the time we see Hakuba in Detective Conan Conan this 'child' has already shown himself capable of dealing with Kid. Sure, Conan didn't arrest Kid, but neither can anyone else, and list of people that can claim to have been able to stop Kid from stealing an item is relatively small, and without knowing Conan on a personal level Hakuba can understand that level of competence. He can respect him as a professional, and not look down on him aside from in the literal sense. Though, it probably also helps that in the two times Hakuba has seen Conan he wasn't doing the 'ah-le-le I'm just a dumb little kid' routine. Both times he actually showed his real intelligence, thought still a bit of a tree hidden in a forest of other detectives.

Well that's probably enough of that for now. TL;DR: Hakuba doesn't know Conan is a teen, but he respects him anyway because he'd respect anyone that could catch Kaito off guard.

Ok so. Spoilers for anyone who hadn't read the case before!

But, seeing Kaito just fully in tune with Conan way before either of them know even all that much about each other? Is so amazing.

Kaito knows that Conan is a very mature, intelligent detective, even if he doesn't know Conan is actually a shrunken teenager yet - and just like Hattori, he's not picking him up and shoving him out of the way, but almost instinctively listening to him.

Kaito's also put in an interesting position here, as he's disguised (so, he's in the role of Kaitou Kid) but taking on the role of a "medical student" which prompts him into performing the original autopsy/examination of the body.

Chronologically, this is the first case Kaito has with a dead body.

We can see how he reacts to that here - full of frustration and anger that in spite of everything, he couldn't see through the "bloody magic trick" as he calls it, before it happened, so he couldn't save someone's life.

But of course, he seemed to have gone in knowing that something was up, at least-

"I came here to figure out how Little Cheater was still sending messages after his death."

In other words - he was reminded of his own situation. A magician dies during a magic trick, then some time later seemingly "reappears" but it turns out to be a younger relative of theirs.

He also knew that he wouldn't be the best fit for the job, but he was doing his best - that said, both he and Conan understand that his emotions got in the way of him being able to think clearly

All in all I love this case! In many ways it's calling back to the old Magic Kaito chapters where he'd don the Kaitou Kid suit purely to resolve a problem as a sort of masked vigilante superhero, rather than as a means to a heist; yet it's also very set in Conan's world, because of the murder that happens.

OOPS it's been over ten days since I messaged you, sorry about that! Anyway, hi, it's your Secret Santa again. I've barely started on your gift but I have big plans! A script is involved.

Re: Kaito-- I like him as either persona too! It is fun to me how Kaito himself differs from the KID persona, part of the fun of Magic Kaito (as someone who started with Detective Conan) is sorta pulling back the curtain and seeing how much of a messy, flying-by-the-seat-of-his-pants kind of guy Kaito really can be, when Detective Conan tends to frame him as this ultra-genius that is always one step ahead and perfectly put together. Especially fun when a case appears as both a Magic Kaito episode and Detective Conan episode, and you get both of their POVs on the situation.

Not to say Kaito isn't smart or doesn't plan well, of course he does, but revealing that one of the first things he learned was to never let down his poker face really reframes the idea that, y'know, maybe there's a reason he acts like he's always one step ahead.

Anyway I don't really have a question at the end of this, just some Kaito thoughts, so I hope you're having a good holiday season! No promises on mini-gifts but I'm hoping I'll do at least one.

Don't worry about the time that has passed or mini gifts! Those aren't necessary and I know the time leading up to the Holidays is a busy one for everyone (I know it is packed full for me).

I do love it when we get to see both sides of a heist as well! In DetCo we get to see Shinichi trying to figure out how to unravel the tricks and in MK we get to see all the work that goes into planning them as well as all the contingency plans Kaito has.

It's so interesting to me that you mentioned Kaito as an example for flying-by-the-seat-of-his-pants (which is true! he does have to wing it many times but only when his plans are thwarted). I think Shinichi/Conan suits that way more because the amount of times this shrunken detective walks into danger with eyes wide open and an attitude of ''I'll figure it out along the way'' is staggering.

For Kaito, I feel it's like when he learned gymnastics: figuring out how to fall and not hurt yourself is a big part of building the confidence to do more complex things. He is preparing for the worst case, he HOPES it doesn't come to it, but there's definitely a lot more risk assessment and management going on with him.

Heiji is wearing the hat of whatever team is the rivals of his usual one. Hakuba is now legally require to carry around an Agatha Christie novel (jk I personally loveeeee Agatha Christies)

Meanwhile, Kaito is doing absolutely nothing at all, even though he could literally give himself a new face if he wanted to. He is made safe by his acting skills and the fact that no one would possibly suspect six year old twins of being two (possibly) unrelated teenagers

(6 something you remember vividly from a fic) I remember reading one of your mk fics and I hadn’t watched the show. And I remember him talking to the gem he stole and went wow I know nothing about this dude but there is something Wrong with him (affectionate). And I thought about it from time to time and since I started watching dcmk I just had to go back and read that fic. There’s still something so wrong with Kaito lol <3 Love your fic!!

I'm sorry I'm cackling over the fact that a very silly, borderline crack fic I did in about an hour mad two (2) people read DCMK. It's weird that it happened twice. My dear Amira who I dragged into the rabbit hole of shrunken detectives and magician thieves also read Kaito in the Sky with Diamonds with no foreknowledge.

And I'm glad you got that vibe bc it's exactly what I was going for, silly and fun with a veneer of "wow holy fuck this kid needs some therapy and a real actual human to talk to". Like he really doesn't have anyone in his life to talk to about all this craziness so his only way to decompress from the heist is to, well, talk to his 'victim'. He's so messy I love him.
