@sliverswords i didn't wanna hijack Gracie's post because this might be somewhat of a long answer!

So, when I was in middle and high school I went to an all-girls Christian summer camp a few years in a row--the same camp I now counsel at. My cabin the year I was going into 9th grade was mostly church kids and we all wanted to do more for morning devotions than the little booklet they hand out, so our counselor told us "read through 1 Peter." At the same time, in our group Bible lessons, she was teaching us how to study the Bible in a way that I had never really done before. I remember realizing how much she loved the Bible, and how passionate she was about it, and at that point I didn't really know anyone like that and it shifted my perspective. Man, I wish I had my notes from that first really thorough read-through of 1 Peter! You know how people say the Bible jumps off the page at you? Yeah, that was the first time I had any clue what they meant. I was a pretty lost kid at the time, and dealing with some rough things at home, and the amount of hope in that little epistle was so foreign to me and so lovely. It told me that it was okay to go through hard things, and that it was even possible to rejoice in the midst of them--not because the pain went away, but because my joy doesn't come from a life free of pain. It comes from faith in Christ and from the living hope I have of growing more like Him on earth and being with Him in heaven. 1 Peter told me I had purpose, was part of "a chosen people," and to a kid who felt aimless, unwanted, and alone, being chosen by God seemed almost too good to be true. It told me there were expectations for how God wants us to live--structure and order were comforting too--but that He gives boundless mercy as well. Chapter 3 is one of those husband and wife passages that I still really don't like, if I'm honest with myself and with God. Let's just say I don't enjoy the idea of submission, to Him or to other people. But that passage taught me to wrestle with God, and that it was okay to dislike something and bring it before Him, as long as His will remained above my own. Cliche as it may be, the verse about casting your anxiety on Him because He cares for you hit extra hard, and I began to ask God to help lift my worries. Finally, it ended on hope again--the hope that God wouldnt leave me in pain, that He would restore life to me and make me "strong, firm, and steadfast." He is keeping that promise.

It's been awhile since then, and life got worse before it got better. But 1 Peter was a refuge I returned to over and over, and a reminder that hope persists always. The ability to hope--not a wish, not an emotion, but a choice and an action--is quite literally why I'm alive today. And I don't think I'd have that ability without a camp counselor who taught me how to study and a God who knew right when I needed His words.

Terribly long answer to a terribly short question! But, that's why it's my favorite book of the Bible.

You ever think about how scary an Enerjak Silver would be.

admittedly, i’ve never read archie, but from what i’ve read on his wiki, i can see enerjak is some sorta demigod-spirit that possessed a few echidnas and has practically limitless power? so yeah if silver got possessed by enerjak it would be terrifying. silver’s already powerful as he is, so if he was possessed by this being with god-level strength, psychic abilities, and reality-warping, it’d be all over. he could probably turn the planet to dust with the flick of his wrist. the universe itself would be the thing at risk, the planet would already be gone. enerjak silver would be cool as hell to see. completely undefeatable psychokinetic armoured boy? it’d look so awesome.

anyway since i’ve never read those comics so i couldn’t go too in-depth with this question due to not knowing enough about enerjak, i decided to try design enerjak silver! :]

enerjak’s armour is seemingly inspired by egyptian royalty and armour, and since silver is italian, i decided to base enerjak silver’s armour on roman soldiers! i don’t know if that ended up coming across in the finished design, but i swear the inspiration is there ehfjejfjwjf. i tried to have it so silver’s quills came out the top of his helmet like the crest that some roman soldiers’ helmets had, also i imagine the visor covering his face is moveable, so he can lift it up off his face :]

ohhhh anon i've not heard of this song before and i have to say, the visuals for the official video were so beautiful and heart-wrenching!!

as far as the lyrics are concerned.....oof. the song is bursting with ch7 silver energy when it comes to his agony of realizing his true heritage, and it tears at my heart to listen along and think of it as such.

i also picked up on the lyrics "is it wrong to boast of my happiness? is it wrong to grieve over my unhappiness?" as ringing so painfully true for silver in ch7, especially in the moments where we now know he was suppressing his misery over lilia's abrupt departure and disclosure of his imminent death. it's really interesting to see the memories of silver as a child more open and expressive of his emotions, freely laughing and smiling with lilia, in comparison to the silver who we know today— a solemn and stoic young man who rarely changes expression, a fact that is a point of mockery among his classmates.

what happened to drive such a change in his behavior? is it simply a direct result of him becoming more aware of the seriousness his role and duties as malleus' guard begets, and wishing to emulate the dignity of a soldier? is it a result of his exhaustion that has seemingly escalated over the years, a constant pull on his energy that leaves him with sparing reserves? it also made me think of how he lashed out at his baby self, so in despair at the thought of how he could cry when his very existence was a curse, a blight upon malleus and lilia's honor. there's so much painful evidence of silver neglecting his own emotions when it comes to putting lilia first, and i really feel like it's going to come to a head here inevitably before ch7 is over.

don't be shy tell us about hollow moon's bad ending :) (also such a great fic!!! your writing gives me so many emotions i had to lie down like a fainting victorian woman)

oh my god ;; okay, so- i feel like i should highlight first that this is all stuff that mainly got thrown around inside my head; i never actually wrote anything out properly? so this might come off more as a deranged rambling than anything else aha-

tbh the bad ending feels kinda self-explanatory: the moon wins. that's all there is to it; either sebek and malleus don't get there in time so silver manages to throw lilia off with magic and escape through the portal, or malleus' attempt to cut off his magic fails... et cetera, et cetera.

i got really tempted to write that. sheep (friend who helped me a lot with hollow moon) and i REALLY like the moon (we call her "moonie") and it just got really tempting to write a bad ending where she's basically toying with silver, dressing him in pretty clothes and making him entertain her, and kind of sort of managing to keep him alive (barely) while his mind's just a complete mess under the full extent of her thrall. idk, i'm a sucker for Women™ who do things like that. y'all don't know how much i liked writing moonie toying with silver in the dream sequences in hollow moon (answer: a lot)

except the problem is that this bad end led me to think about a good end to the bad end (convoluted!!), which utilises one of my favourite tropes in general: rescue missions. do you think?? the other three are just gonna take this lying down?? they're gonna find a way to break in and drag silver back and AAAAA i had to throttle and restrain myself from scrapping the original ending and writing that because. Do You KNOW how much i fucking LOVE rescue missions?? malleus 1v1's the moon while lilia and sebek go looking for silver (who is just unconscious and left in a pretty little tower somewhere in those mountains, sleeping in a bed while moonie deals w the pesky intruders...) something something the horror of seeing ur son just fucking Gone mentally and needing to drag him out before it's too late. anyways

IDK I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE but man. hollow moon. sure did take a lot out of me. moonie is a #girlboss and i love her. tbh the main reason why i didn't scrap it is bc 1) i think the fic would've gotten another 20k words and i was not strong enough and 2) i still like the og ending. i think it fits perfectly and i had it in mind since the beginning so i wasn't gonna just scrap it. IT WAS STILL TEMPTING THOUGH-

Tell me about ur Tav. Race? Class?

I have a whole dossier of my Tav / Serenity Caldwell located on my obscure muses page but she's a HIGH ELF that's also part mermaid due to her backstory. Even her tattoo I placed on her neck also is important to mermaid lore in the 5E that Balder's Gate 3 uses. I really fell down the D&D rabbit hole on wiki's dealing with Umberlee and tying that god into some of my Tav's backstory. Also, her being a Caldwell in Balder's Gate factors into her mermaid status being kept a secret so it doesn't cause a scandal, etc.

My Tav is a Rogue. Funny thing is, when I first played Balder's Gate 3, I had no clue that Astarion was also a Rogue. Maybe because that I noticed the more elf features and they way he was dressed? I am not sure so I chose to pick a Rogue because they are my favorite class in D&D and video games as a whole. I mean I love Joker from Persona and he fits the 'Rogue' type too. Hell, I even have a muse that's called an adapt rogue. His name is Haseo. So yeah, I have a soft spot for Rogues.

Now, her path strays from Astarion's because I have him as the assassin rogue. For Tav, I have her as an Arcane Trickster since I do love the idea of Rogues learning magic. And with her dabbling in alchemy due to her being one of the oldest families in Balder's Gate that specialize in that, it just makes natural sense for her to know some spells too. She's also a noble, so Tav is a little sheltered but she has those sticky fingers fitting of a Rogue, picking up anything that is on the ground or that no one is claiming. Tav's pretty encumbered all the time. Good thing Astarion is there to be given random stuff while in the party. lol
