tongue-tied (hearts entwined)—Marichat
Summary: Chat Noir has the annoying habit of sticking his tongue out whenever he's concentrating. Marinette hates that she finds it (and him) ridiculously cute.
Now all she has to do is get through the denial.
Notes: For @emsylcatac! Happy birthday, even if I’m a bit late. I know you’re a Ladynoir stan but... it’s Marichat May+Chat blepping :D
(The last scene is also inspired by this gorgeous piece of art by @australet789! I couldn’t resist sneaking it in lol)
Or click here to read on AO3!
tongue-tied (hearts entwined)
The first time Marinette notices the habit, she brushes it off.
Chat Noir sits on the balcony with her as he attempts to disentangle a ball of yarn from his body. He had claimed that no, he hadn’t in fact been chasing it and it was most definitely not his fault (meaning that it most likely was).
Now, he is wrapped like a Christmas present in neon yellow string. Marinette refuses to help him, so Chat yanks and pulls and stretches the yarn with utmost focus—all with his tongue poking out of his mouth.
Marinette watches him. He doesn’t even seem to notice her presence and only continues in his concentration. His tongue does not return to its rightful place (out of sight, out of mind)—it continues to stick out in the most obnoxiously adorable way ever and Marinette is almost tempted to tell him to shove it back in so she can stop finding him cute.
Before she can do so, Chat Noir lets out a groan. His tongue swipes over his lips and disappears, to Marinette’s relief (and disappointment). “Cataclysm,” he grumbles under his breath.
With that, he cataclysms the yarn to free himself. It falls to black dust all around him like ashes.
“What?” Chat asks when he sees her staring. “It was efficient. Don’t look at me like that.”
Marinette blinks and shakes her head. Had she found him cute just a moment ago? No, she decides. Obnoxious, maybe, but definitely not cute.
(No way.)
***
It happens a couple more times before Marinette realizes that it’s become a problem.
They’re playing video games in her room, an odd little routine they’ve developed. Chat Noir is surprisingly enthusiastic about beating her in Ultimate Mecha Strike III, which, so far, he has not been able to do.
Marinette makes the mistake of sneaking a glance at him in the middle of a match. He’s holding the controller, staring at the screen with the same intensity he often directs at akumas, and, best—no, worst of all, his tongue is sticking out of his mouth again.
She stares at him for a little too long. A little too long turns to really, really too long, because Marinette is only snapped out of her thoughts when Chat Noir throws his hands up with a triumphant whoop. “I won!” he crows at her, and Marinette turns to look at the screen in dismay.
Sure enough, he had finally bested her. The stats flash across the screen—he’d only won by a margin, but he had won nonetheless, breaking her streak of eighteen wins and zero defeats. Now, a red 1 flashes across the screen under her losses, and Marinette groans.
“No fair,” she complains. “I was distracted for a second. You wouldn’t have won if I weren’t.”
“Distracted?” Chat frowns at her. “Distracted by what?”
Your tongue does not suffice as an answer. Not unless she wants to die of embarrassment and shame. As Marinette fumbles for an acceptable reply, Chat sets down his controller and leans forward. “Admit it,” he grins, infuriously smug. “I won fair and square.”
Marinette pushes his nose away from her. Her face is burning. “I’m going to kick your ass harder next time, and you’re going to regret this.”
His grin widens. “I’d like to see you try.”
(He’s not cute. Just annoying.)
***
Chat comes by to bake when Marinette’s parents are out of town one day. He asks her to teach him how to make macarons, but it’s a far too advanced skill for his limited scope. So instead, they come to an agreement to make Chinese pineapple buns. Now, standing shoulder to shoulder, Marinette teaches him to knead dough.
He’s all wide eyes and concentration, tongue peeking out from the corner of his mouth as he follows her movements. Marinette forgets about rolling her own dough in favor of watching him. His ears are sticking up straight on top of his head.
He’s so annoyingly cute.
“Okay!” Chat suddenly announces. “Is this good enough—Marinette? Is there something on my face?”
“Huh?” she looks at him, looks at the dough, looks at her own unfinished one, and promptly feels her face flush. Then, against all better judgement, Marinette blurts, “Why do you always stick your tongue out like that?”
“Like what?” Chat tilts his head slightly then sticks his tongue straight out. “Likthe thith?”
“No!” Marinette practically yelps, then throws her hands up. “Your dough isn’t ready! Stop slacking!”
He purposefully keeps his tongue out the whole time until Marinette is shaking from laughter.
(Maybe he’s cute. Slightly.)
***
“It’s called blepping,” Chat Noir tells her.
“What?” Marinette looks up from her project. “What’s called what?”
“Apparently cats do it too,” he continues. “Stick their tongue out, that is.”
“Well,” Marinette tells him, nearly tripping over her words. “You’re not actually a cat.”
“I don’t appreciate you telling me what I can be and what I can’t be,” Chat sniffs back. “Besides, it’s not a problem for anyone, so I don’t see why I can’t embrace my cat instincts.”
“Cat instincts,” she parrots under her breath. “Yeah, right.”
“Wait. You’re not bothered by it, right, Mari?”
Marinette snorts. “Who, me? Why would I be bothered?”
Chat shrugs. “See? Then it’s whatever.”
It’s not whatever, but Marinette isn’t going to let him know that. A moment later, when he’s focusing again, she catches another glimpse of the pink tip of his tongue.
Why does he have to be so cute?
(She is in deep, deep trouble.)
***
Chat’s terrible at tying his laces.
It would’ve been funny—from the way his eyebrows are scrunched, ears twitching as he fumbles uselessly with the string—if it weren’t for the fact that all of that was accompanied by the tongue poking out over his top lip. Marinette knows she should stop staring, because then she can stop finding him cute. But she keeps staring, like a whole idiot.
To her mortification, Chat looks up at her and grins when she catches her turning away hurriedly. “Is my face that great to stare at?” he asks.
“What?” Marinette shrieks. “No! I’m looking at you tie your laces. Do you seriously not know how to do them up?”
Chat pouts. “It’s hard to do with claws,” he grumbles, wiggling his fingers. Then he sticks his leg out. “You can do it for me.”
Marinette does it, only to have an excuse to duck her face so he can’t see how red her cheeks are.
It’s one of their monthly outings that Chat Noir claims essential to their friendship. He had launched into an indignant tirade when Marinette suggested they could skate at a rink, insisting that they skate in nature.
Now, at the small pond with hints of snow beginning to fall, Marinette has to admit that he made the right call. The wind nips at her nose with the slightest hints of cold, but not too cold that it’s uncomfortably so. Bundled in her own handcrafted scarf, mittens and toque, the worst of the chill is kept out. Even Chat is wearing an overcoat over his suit.
They’re far from the city; in fact, they’re far from Paris itself. The horse Miraculous is tucked safely away in one of Chat’s pockets (which, ironically, he had borrowed from Ladybug). Here, away from the buzzing and business of the city, her thoughts feel clearer than they have been in a long, long time. The snow, fresh and still falling, offers a muted sort of quiet that leaves her room to think and ponder without interruptions.
(Too bad all her thoughts just linger on Chat.)
((Or maybe that’s a good thing.))
Marinette double knots Chat’s laces. “There,” she announces, then adds, “you big baby.”
“It’s the claws’ fault!” he exclaims again. “Race you to the pond?”
Before Marinette can react, Chat grabs the hem of her toque and pulls it down over her eyes. Then, with a boyish laugh, she hears him run off, crunch, crunch, crunching over fresh snow.
Marinette scrambles to her feet, cursing him under her breath as she snatches her mittens and brushes the wool out of her face. Chat is already halfway to the pond, and with one last desperate attempt to win, she chucks her mittens at him.
They miss by a margin, landing in the snow and inciting more laughter.
“You’re a cheat!” she shrieks when Chat reaches the ice. “I hope you know that!”
“Sore loser!” he yells from the ice, already twirling easily on his skates. “You don’t see me complaining every time you win in Ultimate Mecha Strike!”
Marinette retrieves her mittens from the ground and brushes the snow from them. “You complain every single time,” she grinds out, joining him on the ice. The moment her skates touch the pond, Chat’s already darting away from her with easy grace. He glides, spins, then starts skating backwards so the smug grin is fully displayed.
“Come get me!” Chat Noir calls, sticking his tongue out. His hands are tucked behind his back, and he loops each glide, one foot behind the other with ridiculous ease. Show off.
“If you’re going to keep sticking your tongue out, then I dare you to lick that,” Marinette yells at him, pointing at the lamp pole that stands a couple of paces from them. “Bet you won’t.”
Never one to back down from a challenge, he raises an eyebrow. “What do I get if I do?”
“I’ll bake you a batch of whatever you want.”
“Oh, you’re on. Also, if a batch of cookies is usually twelve cookies, do you think I could get a batch of twelve cakes—”
“I’m taking back the bet,” Marinette mock-threatens.
“Okay, okay! I want those mooncakes we had two weeks ago! Three of them.”
She skates up to Chat as he makes his way to the pole. He tromps off the ice, skates sinking into the fresh snow and leaving deep imprints, before sidling up to the pole.
Frost spirals in small flowery patterns over the metal. Marinette grins when she sees Chat hesitate.
“Well?” she asks. “Chickening out now?”
“Never,” he grins. Then, with one swift movement, he licks the metal pole and pulls back.
Or tries to.
Chat lets out a muffled cry of distress and pain when the tip of his tongue sticks to the metal. Immediately, his hands go to wrap around the pole, pulling himself close enough until the hurt smooths off his face, soon replaced by panic. “Marinethe!” he yelps.
Marinette stares at him, her body frozen in a mixture of shock and amusement. Then the shock gives way to pure delight, and she bursts out laughing.
Chat takes it in stride. “Ha, ha,” he grumbles as she doubles over. He looks so stupid, with his tongue sticking out, gloved hands gripping the pole as his eyebrows scrunch. “Vthery thunny, Marinethe. Can you helpth?”
“You should see yourself,” Marinette manages throughout her giggles. “Oh my God, Chat, you really deserve this for not having better judgement.”
He lets out a long suffering groan. “Geth thith offth!”
“This is what people sounded like in Shakespearan times,” she continues.
Chat side-eyes her, unable to move his head any more than a bare centimeter. “Justh helpth!”
“Ooh, I got a good one. Cat got your tongue?”
He groans. “Is thith whath ith thakes for you tho maketh a joke?”
Marinette snaps a quick picture before taking pity on him. “Wait here,” she tells him. “I packed us hot tea. A little bit will be enough to unstick your tongue, probably.”
She skates back to where their bags lay on the bench and retrieves the thermos. Half a minute late, Marinette is pouring the steaming liquid into the cap, cooling it just enough, before raising it over Chat’s tongue. “Okay,” she tells him. “Get ready.”
For all his superhero experience and near-death scrapes, he actually looks scared of the tea. “Ith won’th burn me?”
“No,” Marinette reassures and raises the cup to her lips to take a sip. “See? Warm, not hot.”
Chat closes his eyes. Very carefully, Marinette pours a small stream steadily onto where Chat’s tongue has stuck to the metal pull. “Try to move away?” she suggests.
He wiggles his shoulders.
“I mean your face,” Marinette tells him drily. “Don’t be a scaredy cat.”
He scrunches his nose, then very slowly, moves his head back.
The tea does its job, because Chat unsticks himself from the metal easily. His eyes widen as if he can’t believe his luck, then lifts a cautious hand to his mouth and touches the tip of his tongue. “Ow,” he hisses. “It feels like I’ve burned my taste buds off.”
“You froze your taste buds off, but yes.” Marinette screws the lid back onto the thermos. “Lesson learned?”
“You dared me. You wanted this to happen, huh?”
She shrugs. “Can’t say I wasn’t expecting it.”
A look of playful betrayal sweeps over Chat’s face, and he lunges for her. Marinette, expecting it, scrambles out of the way just in time for him to go barrelling into a pile of snow.
By the time Chat Noir has sat up, snow tucked between his ears and all over his hair like cotton, she is already darting across the ice far, far away from him. Chat shakes the flakes from his head and slips onto the ice in one fluent movement as well.
Marinette grins as he comes skating after her. She’s not quite as confident on her skates without her transformation, but lessons and practice have done it’s good because she’s nearly as good as Chat is on the ice. For a good fifteen seconds she evades his messy attempts to catch her, but her disadvantage without her suit comes creeping up little by little until Chat finally manages to wrap a hand around her wrist.
“Gotcha,” he grins.
Then, with a little shove, Marinette crashes into the bank.
It doesn’t hurt, per say, because it’s a snowdrift he’s sent her into, but the cold is still a shock. For a moment, she stares at Chat, who’s laughing like it’s the funniest thing in the world, before Marinette comes back to her senses and kicks a her leg at the blade of his skates.
Even his enhanced senses don’t help him from tumbling right into the pile of snow next to her.
One look at each other later, they’re both laughing.
(It’s nice; the time together, the easiness and lack of…everything else. It’s nice, his smile. His eyes.)
((And it’s then that Marinette realizes that she’s in deep, deep waters with no sight of the shore.))
***
They sit together on the bench, steaming tea between them, as Marinette shakes the last of the snow from her scarf and toque.
The sun is beginning to set, and the coldness has begun to creep into her bones, leaking through her overcoat. Every exhale sends little ghosts into the air, and even with the warm tea, Marinette is beginning to shiver.
Still, they’d arranged to watch the sunset, which means that she’s going to stay even if it means freezing to death.
“Let’s skate more,” Chat says. “You’ll be less cold if you’re moving.”
“I’d be less cold if you didn’t throw me into a pile of snow,” Marinette says between chattering teeth.
He gives her a sheepish look. “You got payback, at least? Come on.”
She looks at the hand extended to her. For a moment, Marinette hesitates, even if the butterflies in her stomach are doing a whole gymnastics routine and her heart’s thump thump thump must’ve quickened to at least twice as fast.
Then she takes Chat’s hand and lets him pull her to her feet.
This time, when she steps onto the ice, he doesn’t let go. Chat Noir’s hands are comfortably warm, tight around hers, and Marinette lets him lead her around the lake in a simple but graceful glide.
They skate until the sky turns from blue to gold, until the clouds dye orange and the world changes color altogether. It’s only then that Chat stops, lifting his head to the sunset. Marinette follows his gaze.
“It’s still cold,” she tells him pointedly, after a minute.
Before she knows it, Marinette is standing against his back, Chat’s arms draped lazily over her shoulders and his chin resting on top of her head. She can’t see him from where she’s standing, but she wonders if he can see her; if he can hear how her heart has jumped right to her throat and notice how the redness in her cheeks can’t be fully credited to the cold.
“Better?” he asks.
Marinette turns back to the sky, where now a brushstroke of red smears across the horizon. “Only slightly,” she replies as nonchalantly as possible.
His body shakes in a silent laugh. And so they stand on the ice, against the cold, until it all melts away to warmth.
(And Marinette thinks that even if she’s in deep waters, this sort of drowning is the best way to go.)

Chapter 30: Stay
Adrien called over to Plagg, waking the cheese gremlin up to get ready to go. After Plagg had said his goodbyes to Tikki, Adrien called upon his transformation, turning him into his alter ego.
Marinette could never get over how amazing it was to watch him transform, but she noticed the sad look in his eyes as he felt the magic run through his veins.
“Hey,” Marinette looked up at him curiously. “What’s wrong?”
“Huh?” Chat looked down at her. “Oh, nothing.”
“Adrien…”
“I… I—” He swallowed, looking down at his feet as he tried to find the words. Luckily, Marinette could tell exactly what was wrong.
“You don’t want to go home.” She walked up and pressed her hand to his cheek, getting him to look at her with pain in his eyes. “You’re afraid to go home, aren’t you?”
Chat nodded sadly, not knowing what else to say, but knowing that he wanted to stay with her nonetheless. He just didn’t know if asking to stay the night would be okay or not.
Marinette noticed that his mouth opened and closed as if he wanted to say something, and she had a feeling she knew exactly what it was. She didn’t want to cross that line in case it was too personal to ask, yet she bit her lip in contemplation as she thought about what to say or do.
The room was silent with thick tension, the only sounds were the squeaks of his boots when he rocked back and forth on his heels. He secretly hoped that by doing this, time would linger a bit longer. It wasn’t until the sudden sounds of pings against her window brought them both out of their thoughts.
“Oh, it’s raining.” Marinette bit her lip as she worried about his journey home in this weather. She didn’t know how bad it would be as he vaulted himself across the rooftops. Well, that was if she let him go home.
“I’ll be fine.” He said instead. “I’ll send a message to your communicator so you know.” Chat smiled, but it was tense and tight; the sight alone broke her heart further. “Stay here. I don’t want you to get wet.”
Marinette could only nod, afraid that the tears would begin fall if she tried to speak to him. He grabbed onto her wrist and pulled her towards him, enveloping her into a hug as he tried to show her how much he loved her through his touch. When he was ready to let go, he parted away from her slightly, pressing a soft kiss to her lips.
She didn’t want to pull away, but when she did, a single tear fell down her cheek.
“Goodnight, Marinette. I love you.”
“Goodnight, chaton. I love you too.”
Chat gave her one last sad smile before he pulled himself up through the skylight. He waved goodbye once more and closed the hatch, refusing to let the rain drizzle onto her bed and leaving her to clean the mess on her own. He slowly sauntered towards the end of the balcony, removing his baton and getting himself ready to vault towards his home. But what he didn’t notice over the falling rain was the sound of Marinette opening the hatch, at least not until he heard her panicked voice over the sound of the rolling thunder.
“Adrien!”
Chat turned around in a panic as he watched her pop through the hatch, staring at him with her hands clutched at her chest. He could tell through her tone that she was about to spiral, and his heart lurched as he noticed tears joining in with the raindrops on her cheeks.
“Stay. Please.”
--------------------------
Oooh.... Poor Adrien is completely heartbroken over his father. And Marinette asked him to stay! I wonder what's going to happen next?
Tomorrow, I will post the next installment-the first chapter of Marichat May. Watch out for "Hidden in the Shadows" where Adrien decides to do something drastic.
Make sure to subscribe to the series if you haven't done so already, so you don't miss when it's posted.
Thank you for being patient with me as I took a month and a half to get this done completely. I'm usually on top of it when it comes to monthly prompts, but things have been busy for me at home lately.

Tickling the Chat's Whiskers - Chapter 7
Also on AO3
<<Previous chapter <<< First chapter
Marichat  May, prompt #7 prompt, roommates.Apologies for the delay. I had so many fun name possibilities for their kitten, and I had to figure that out first.
"So I have the money to move out now," Chat explained. "But I think it'll be a lot less stressful to do it after bac."
"It sounds pretty stressful as-is, Kitty," Marinette said, frowning as she teased Jean Luc Picat with a dangly toy. "But I suppose the stress you know is maybe… less disruptive? Than the stress you don't."
He couldn't help but feel warm and loved by her concern. "I'm not even waiting for graduation," he admitted. "As soon as I'm done with the exam, I'm out." He sucked his lower lip into his mouth for a moment. "I may have to couch surf for a couple of weeks until I can actually get in to a new place. None of the places I've checked are willing to hold a flat without a monthly payment, and my father would probably notice that."
She spun to him, the toy forgotten as Jean Luc pounced on it, disgust on her face. "He keeps tabs on your spending of your own money?"
He nodded. Wasn't that normal? Didn't all parents do that?
"You need to get his access to your accounts revoked before you do anything else," she suggested, though in the same way that Ladybug suggest-ordered him about. It was surprisingly hot on both girls, but somehow more so on his sweet princess. "You're of age to manage your own finances.  Even if that's your first step before signing a lease, it's where you need to start, in case he decides to retaliate by taking your money."
He snorted. "He doesn't need my money. He has gobs of his own." Money and image seemed to be his father's sole interests these days.
She shook her head and dropped the cat toy before walking over to the chaise where he sat. "Not because he needs it for himself. Because he sounds like the kind of person who would use it to control you."
"Oh!" Well that was a horrifying revelation, and he realized he should've thought of that. "I think you're onto something, there, Princess," he said weakly. He didn't like thinking that way, but it was totally fair.  His bids for freedom as he'd matured had been fraught with shouting matches and threats that Gabriel Agreste had proven all too willing to follow through on. "I should've thought of that." There was suddenly a delicious warmth pressed against him, dispelling the gloom of his home life. He melted into her hug.
"You shouldn't have to think such things about your own family," she whispered sadly. "That's not what family should be."
He embraced her in return, relishing in the feeling of having her in his arms. Did he occasionally push for Princess hugs just because it was his favorite place to be.  Yes. Yes, he did, and he could totally own that. "He's not really my family anymore," he whispered into her hair, pulled into an adorable loose bun. "He's a relative, because we don't have control over who we're related to. But he's not family. Your parents, Jean Luc Picat, and you, you're my family now."
It broke his heart a little to hear her sniffle. "You're ours, too." She squeezed him a little tighter for a moment, but showed no sign of actually letting him go any time soon. "We fed you.  You're ours now."
He wanted to thank her, but he was afraid he'd start crying if he tried to speak. Their conversation on his future plans wasn't supposed to be full of intense emotions.  But since when did his plans mean anything in the grand scheme?
"And after bac, you can come here," she promised. "You can stay with us for as long as you need to. Okay?"
Well she was certainly pulling out all the stops tonight. A purr rose unbidden from his throat, but when he tried to pull away, horrified by his miraculous-enhanced body's response, she just held him tighter.
"That's a happy sound." Even without looking, he could tell she was smiling. "I like it. I like it when you're happy."
"I'm almost always happy when I'm here," he admitted.
"Except when you're sad or hurt," she pointed out. "But we'll take our first kitty in all his moods."
Jean Luc hopped up onto his lap, curling into a tight ball in the dip between his legs.
"You know, I might never leave if I stay with your family," he cautioned, utterly serious, though she probably thought he was joking.
"We'd be okay with that," she promised, loosening her hug to look up at him. "Mama and Papa worry about you, too, you know."
He forced his gaze away from the intensity in her eyes. He wanted to kiss her so badly, but this was definitely not the time. He couldn't do that. Not now, possibly never, but he could hope. Hope was what got him through most days. "I've never really lived with other people. My father's house is… huge and cold. It feels like living in a museum. I may not make a very good roommate." He wanted nothing more than to stay with her forever, but he needed to be honest, even if it changed her mind.
"That's okay," she insisted. "We'll help you. That's what real family does."

Hey! I’m new to the fanfic scene and I posted my fanfic onto wattpad and fanfiction and I also posted it on here. But the thing is when I search my up fan fic on tumblr it doesn’t show up at all. I was wondering if you could give me some pointers as how to post a fanfic on tumblr. The title of my fanfic is miraculous in the fray (if you want to find it). Thanks for your help!
Usually when I tag my fanfiction I tag the main fandom tag ‘miraculous ladybug’ then the main relevant characters and ships. Tumblr search only keeps track of the first five tags, so you want to put all of the important things in those tags so they’ll show up in a search. So if it’s a fic about MariChat let’s say my tags may look something like: miraculous ladybug, marinette dupain-cheng, chat noir, marichat, adrien agreste- or something along those lines. After the first five tags, I put things like ‘my writing’ the title of the fic, any other commentary I’m going to add in etc.
Sometimes it takes a while to generate traffic on your posts especially if you’re just starting out and building your readership from the ground up. I’ve been writing in this fandom for two years now, and it’s taken me that long to build a consistent readership, and there are still authors out there who get way more reads than I do. Posting often, trying out new things, interacting with others in the fandom are all good ways to draw in readers. I recommend participating in exchanges if you can or even just consistently commenting on other author’s works that you admire. If you leave them nice comments on their work, they might be inclined to check you out too. You can also write things for people if they made a post that you liked the idea of or art or if they just talk about a particular character or pairing a lot. Certainly don’t go into interactions with others with the intentions of promoting yourself, but like just make friends, and they’ll want to support you.
Ultimately write what you would like to read and readers will follow. Participate in monthly events that this fandom has so many of. Next month is LadyNoir July then in August there is AU Yeah August and Fluff Month (as well as Aro/Ace August which I am hosting). Stuff like that is good for exposure because the challenge runners will reblog works onto the event’s page for everyone to see so it’s a good way to get your work out there for more people to see if you don’t have a lot of followers. Don’t expect it all to just happen overnight. Most of us out here started with nothing and built from the ground up. It takes time so just be patient and keep doing what you’re doing.
This has been writing advice with Cat

Searingly Sweet (Marichat/Adrienette)
What do you do when one of paris’ most superlatively handsome heros comes knocking on your balcony door? You would panic first, right? Like, what does he want; why is he here; should I prepare something? Any and all those thoughts might run through your head I’m guessing. But what does Marinette Dupain-Cheng do when a certain leather-clad feline comes a knocking?
She gets pissed...cause duh, right?
And it wasn’t even like she was pissed at him exactly. It was more just that he happened to appear at the apex of her shitty day. Every single client the 23 year old had that afternoon was completely and utterly shitty human beings. And she gets it, a lot of schools in the area were picking up the american custom of having end of the year dances, for socializing and shit. But if she had to hear another shitty 17 year old complain about how the applique on her dress doesn’t absolutely “shimmer” in the moonlight and how the dress doesn’t make her ASS look like that american rapper Nicki Minaj’s (Which by the way if you’re gonna use french in your stage name PICK A REAL FRENCH WORD). She was ACTUALLY going to cut someone.
So it wasn’t his fault that he happened to knock on the balcony door to her apartment. Also wasn’t his fault that she happened to be in the middle of her 3rd alteration of the SAME dress at the time. But that didn’t stop her from viciously slamming open her door, rage blazing in her eyes.
“WHAT?” She roared
Her attitude instantly vanished, however, as Chat Noir collapsed into her arms. She grabbed onto his waist to keep him upright but his harsh hiss kept her hands at bay. She felt a wetness on her hand, it wasn’t raining out so it couldn’t be good. She looked down and sure enough Chat had contracted a sizeable cut above his hip and in different places along his torso.
“Holy shit!” was all she could really comment “Adrien, what happened!?”
They had long since found out each other’s identity. 21st birthdays mixed with intimate truth or dare and too many margaritas will do that kind of thing to you. But the lucky part was that nothing ever really changed for them. If anything, it made their civilian lives that much easier. Now, if anything went wrong they knew exactly where to go for safety.
Guess this was one of those times huh?
“Mari” Chat groaned out pitifully, body slumped over her petite frame
She didn’t allow him to say anything else as she carefully helped him onto the couch. She laid him down gently and rushed to get a bowl and some cool water. Returning back he didn’t look too good, hair matted from sweat and eyes squeezed shut in pain. She gingerly picked up his head and laid it in her lap. She pressed the wet cloth to his biggest cut and pressed down, shushing him softly to soothe his pain.
She looked into his eyes for an explanation “What happened? Was it a really bad akuma?”. Her heart only sank as he remained silent.
“Oh god it was, wasn’t it? Fuck, if I wasn’t so swamped with work I could’ve been there for you. You wouldn’t be like this. Adrien I’m so sorry” He lifted his hand and gently stroked her cheek. A gentle smile graced his features and she felt like bursting into tears that very moment.
“Please don’t cry, Mari” He said, his voice warmer than a summer’s breeze “I didn’t lose to an akuma. Just to a very old cat and a very sturdy tree.”
At first it didn’t click, she was far too wrapped up in her guilt ridden emotions. But then, ever so slowly, the words sunk in further and further
“Could you say that again for me please?” She said a little too sweetly “I just want to make sure I heard you correctly”
“Oh! I just said that these cuts are from me saving a pretty old cat from a tree” He scratched his head bashfully “old beast was not too appreciative and scratched me up pretty good and the tree kinda finished the job”
She stood up abruptly, knocking chat off the couch and onto the floor.
“Noooo” Chat whined as she stormed off “Don’t leave me here to perish in the cold!”
A blanket, quite unceremoniously, pelted him in the face “BUNDLE UP BITCH”
“Someone’s got their chiffon in a knot” He pouted “what? You missed your monthly ‘designer’s digest’ issue?”
Marinette sat back on the couch wordlessly, only speaking to ask him to drop his transformation so she could patch him up. Her speech was so...professional that he dropped it immediately, worried that he might’ve pushed her buttons a little too hard.
“Hey Mari, you know I was only kidding right?” this silent treatment was a bit of a first for him, he hadn’t meant to offend her, only poke at her a little “I didn’t mean all that stuff I said. I really am sorry”
He tried putting on his best sad face, nudging his head into her in the hopes that it’d melt her heart enough to forgive him. She sighed and put his head back into her lap.
“I’m not mad chat.” She said, preparing a disinfectant cloth “there’d be no point in that”
He breathed a sigh of relief, he wasn’t totally convinced but at least she wasn’t gonna kick him out of the house
“That being said, you tear up the shirt I made you. Sooooo, you deserve this entirely”
Adrien’s eyes shot open wide as a stinging, searing pain shot through his whole side. He moved to shoot up in his seat but, surprisingly, Marinette was pretty strong and held him down, giggling the entire time. A disinfectant cloth slapped to the cut would teach him a lesson or two
“OH MY GOD THAT HURTS SO FUCKING BAD” he howled out
“I know right? You must be so sorry for playing with my emotions and tearing up that shirt aren’t you?”
“I WAS ATTACKED!?!? GET THIS SHIT OFF ME!”
“That’s interesting cause, see, that doesn’t sound like an ‘I’m sorry’ to me”
“YOU ARE SADISTIC”
“And you’re still screaming. I do have neighbors you know”
Adrien gritted his teeth as he tried to bear the burning sensation traveling all through his body “I’m sorry for tearing up the shirt and playing with your emotions even though I did nothing of the sort”
She pressed down on the cut harder
“I’M SORRY I’M SORRY YOU’RE RIGHT ENTIRELY MY FAULT. PLEASE SWEET MERCIFUL CHRIST LET GO!”
She took pity on his poor soul and finally released him. He rolled back onto the floor and scattered away behind her curtains
“I COULD HAVE DIED YOU PSYCHO”
Marinette was hardly perturbed “1.) I checked the bottle before-hand it was gonna sting regardless of what I did and 2.) you still have like 8 more lives, you’re fine”
Adrien was now in full pout mode “I’m not an actual cat you know. The american phrase ‘YOLO’ does actually apply to me”
“You’re so dramatic” she laughed. Scooting over on the furthest side of the couch, she stretched out her arms to lure him back to the sofa. He turned from her, refusing to even acknowledge her offer.
“Oh come on, kitty. I still have to wrap up your other cuts before they get infected”
He wrapped the curtains further up on his body “Better than dying from the shock of the pain!”
She rolled her eyes “I promise I’ll be gentler this time. And, I’ll make sure to tell you when the sting is coming”
He eyed her cautiously, coming out from behind the curtains and inching closer “I want free cuddles the rest of the night”
She sighed “fine, whatever you want”. It was like telling him he’d won the lotto, his perfect white teeth gleaming in a cheshire like grin. Adrien tossed himself on the couch, instantly slipping up her body and snuggling closely to her chest.
“You are so unbelievably spoiled you know”
“You know I think I can still feel the pain of the disinfectant. I wonder why?”
She laughed warmly and let him stay there for a while.
There was no way to really describe the relationship they had. On the one hand they were definitely friends; they had the occasional coffee meet-up with Alya and Nino, popped in on one another if they had a bad day and, duh, saved one another from certain death every now and again. They could go out and see other people, sure, but then they did things like this. Cuddle times where they just stayed silent and share body heat, sleeping in the same bed because one couldn’t be bothered to stay up enough to make the trek home, and even spending whole weekends just vegging out at home watching Totally Spies reruns on TV. It was a weird set up but if you asked Marinette if she would change anything, not a single second would be unmissed.
“Ok mon minou, let’s get you patched up before I have to clean your blood off my couch...again”
He begrudgingly agreed and left her warm hold, sitting with legs crossed and patiently awaited her medical care. She returned back with her famous “Chat almost died today” first aid kit and something thin and white sticking out from between her lips. It caught the blonde’s attention and his feline instincts began to flare up again. Nevertheless, he sat still, only moving to remove his shirt and give her space to wrap his body in bandages.
“There, all done” She said, ever so slightly proud of her work “You were a very good patient this time around kitty. Usually you’re so squirmish”
Even as she scritched his favorite spot behind his ear adrien still couldn’t get his mind off of whatever was occupying his lady’s mouth
“Uh Adrien? You ok?” She said waving a hand in front of his eyes. He blinked back to reality and smiled apologetically
“Sorry Mari guess I’m a little distracted” He laughed nervously. She shrugged it off as no big deal and left to warm up some leftovers for him.
Adrien watched her with childlike curiosity, he didn’t wanna be a real bother to her but it killed him not knowing what it was that was in her mouth. Even still, he hesitated on bringing it up, choosing instead to stuff his face with honey mustard glazed chicken and pasta.
It was maybe 20 minutes into their third episode when Adrien just stretched himself out flat onto her lap. She remarked on his keen ability to make “make himself at home” but it only went in one ear and out another as he watched her cheek poke out with the offending object.
He poked it
She switched it to the other side
He poked it again
She sat it in the middle while looking at him with a strange look on her face
He didn’t even notice as his long fingers kept poking around her face, expecting to flush it out from behind her lips
“Adrien!” She commanded, swatting his hands away “Will you please stop tha-”
“My lady, what is in your mouth?”
The question came out so abruptly that it caught her completely by surprise. She blinked confusedly at him. There was not a hint of joking attitude in his eyes so she took it out.
“It’s just a lollipop. See?” she placed it back over her tongue, sucking on it hard “Nothing special. Cherry flavor I think”
Adrien didn’t exactly know what to feel. Yes, he got the answer he’d been looking for but, at the same time, a cherry lollipop? Really?
“Why didn’t you say you got one?” He fussed
“Why do you care? Kitty, it’s just candy”
He didn’t really have a witty retort to that so he kept silent, rolling over in her lap and facing the TV. Marinette assumed he’d finally gave up so she settled back in her seat.
“I want one”
She groaned, rubbing her temples soothingly
“No, Kitty you may not have one”
Adrien poked out his bottom lip “Why not, you have one”
“Ok, And?”
“Where do you keep them?”
“If I told you that it wouldn’t be a secret stash would it?”
He almost took offense to that “Why would you keep it a secret from me? Do you not trust me?”
“To not eat all my candy without me knowing? No”
“I’d replace it”
“Adrien the last time you ‘replaced’ my candy stash it ended up being more expensive than my rent”
He pulled her into a face squishing hug “Maaari let me have one”
She struggled to push away him away, he was stupidly strong when he wants something “No dammit let me go!”
Adrien finally released her and suddenly stood up. If she didn’t know any better she would’ve assumed that she got the hint. But, sadly, she did and, without remorse, glared him down.
“Chaton, don’t you fucking dare”
He shot out of the living room and into the bedroom down the hall. She chased after him, knowing exactly where he was going and for what. Just as she suspected, Adrien was making quick work of her room, sifting between the sheets and crawling beneath the bed.
“Quit it you fucking sugar addict!”
“Let me have my fix and I will!”
“No!”
“Then the hunt continues!”
Her room was becoming an utter mess. Clothes were being tossed everywhere, it was like a horror movie. She forced him into a corner to maybe try and talk things out somewhat civilly but the blonde bastard just carefully scooped her up and tossed her onto the bed, breaking out from the corner to just fuck up her room even more.
They were on the floor now, huffing and wheezing as they tried to catch their breath. Adrien looked everywhere, the sheets, under the bed, in the closet. He even took the ultimate risk and went through her drawers (The kick to his gut proved that that wasn’t too good of an idea). But still no sweets for a little blonde boy named Adrien
“Please tell me you quit” She huffed out
“It’s not fair” he whined “all I wanted was something sweet”
“I just fed you”
“Dessert is an important part of every meal”
He clambered up onto his feet and stumbled back, knocking into the wall behind him. There was a clamor from the top of Marinette’s closet. She prayed that he didn’t hear it….it was a stupid prayer let’s be real here.
“Hey Marinette”
“Yes Adrien”
“What’s in your closet”
“You looked in there yourself...nothing”
She didn’t dare move from the floor as he stared her down
“If I go over there right this very second, you’re not gonna move”
“I see no reason to do so”
The millisecond he moved toward that closet door she raced in between him and the doorway. A dark smile stretched across his lips. He moved in close and she could hear his heartbeat in her ears. He leaned down, his breath tickling her ears.
His voice made her knees weak “It’s in there, isn’t it my lady”
She sucked on her cherry blowpop harder and harder as she shook her head vigorously
“Then what did I hear in the closet. If it’s not what I’m looking for then what’s there to worry about?”
Her eyes looked everywhere but his own vibrant green ones. He knew what that tone of voice did to her and did it anyway.
Adrien snaked his arms around her waist and pulled her away from the door. His stares were so paralyzing she couldn’t say that she even noticed. They walked over to the bed and gently pushed her onto its soft sheets. He climbed atop of her, smoothing his hands across her skin
“Be a good girl and stay here, ok?”
This man could’ve told her to commit murder and all she’d need was a spoon and a name
He moved back over to the closet and rooted around its dark shelves. Eventually he noticed that the side wall was uneven. Sure enough, when he pressed down on it the panel fell away to a secret hole in the wall, complete with its own neatly painted shoe box.
“Hello my sweet”
He was a kitten on christmas coming out from that closet. Pressed close to his chest the box clearly said ‘Keep out, especially you kitty!” but he couldn’t care less, soon he would indulge himself in a sugar sweet paradise.
“HOLD IT RIGHT THERE, THIEF”
Or at least he would if she didn’t break out of her lust induced trance
He bolted out of the room, eyes darting left and right for any kind of hiding space. Alas, it was no use. Marinette had him stuck in the kitchen corner with nowhere left to run. She took a cautious step toward him and he grabbed the first thing he could, a deluxe chocolate bar that she’d been saving for a super shitty day
Much like this one actually
“S-stop! Kitty, just leave the box on the counter”
“Fine! I’ll just take the chocolate bar then”
“THE CHOCOLATE BAR TOO!”
He tore off the label, never once taking his eyes off hers
“Put it. Down”
A corner of the aluminum wrapping hit the floor and her mind went into a blind panic. He was really gonna eat it if she didn’t come up with something!
He opened his mouth comically wide and brought it to his teeth
‘ThinkThinkThinkThinkThink!’
And as he brought his teeth closer together for bite she decided that she had no choice
Marinette ripped the candy from her mouth and pressed her body roughly against his, grabbing a fistful of his hair and bringing their lips together.
That alone would be seared into his subconscious for the rest of his life but what followed would follow him for as long as time stood.
Cherries, the syrupy sweet taste of artificial cherries flooded his tastebuds as her tongue slipped between his lips and into every corner of his mouth. His mind couldn’t take it to the point where he just dropped the box in his hands altogether, grabbing tightly onto her hips and savoring the flavor as much as he could.
But as soon as it started, it ended. She backed away from him, face redder than the candy in her hand.
“Never touch my stash again”
He tried to speak but she shoved the red sucker into his cheeks
“And I’m sure you’ve probably earned that”
She gathered up her box and walked out the kitchen, grumbling something about ‘Stupid cats’ and ‘putting it in a safe next time’
Adrien’s favorite flavor used to be chocolate
He was fairly certain that’s not the case anymore.
