I’ll be honest I was really banking on Silksong being released in 2023 I genuinely wasn’t expecting to make it more than 250 days tbh. But hey, I guess I was joining the delusional crowd with that one lol. I just really hope Silksong releases this year or at least we get a confirmed release date at all???? All this waiting is starting to feel like kingdom hearts 3 all over again

Well anyway, here’s my 100 day checkup I guess:

Burnout has been wavering in and out I think. I’m not putting in effort like I used to during the day 150-250 period of this blog but hey the fact that I’m still dedicating a brain cell to this at all is impressive to me. Generally speaking I’m not a person who likes to commit themselves to something for more than a year unless I absolutely have to. I could literally take a break from this blog whenever I want but it’s been such a consistent part of my daily routine that I just haven’t lol.

I’ve been debating back and forth with myself on whether or not I want to have a couple people helping out with the blog. On one hand it would be really nice to have a helping hand so I could take more consistent breaks but on the other hand I’ve never been good at communication especially because organizing something like that is wayyyy out of my comfort zone. I run my blog a very specific way and I’m often bad at explaining my process to others without something getting misunderstood.

So I’m thinking up a few other ideas as well. Don’t feel like going into specifics because I’m not certain on them at all but if I feel like one works I’ll talk about it more in the future here or on my main blog.

Life has been really busy lately but after a long time I think I might finally have time to dedicate a full day to drawing multiple doodles so I can mass schedule and take a longer break I think. No promises on that but here’s to hoping.

Oh yeah also today’s specific drawing is inspired by Day 174. Also considered a redraw I guess??

“is sitting in front of the tv your only plan for the next six weeks?” you ask atsumu as you hand him a plate. the sandwich you made him from lunch is far from gourmet, but he sends you a weak smile in appreciation anyway.

“can’t do much else,” he answers before taking a bite of his food.

“that’s fair.” you plop down on the couch beside him. the cast wrapped around his ankle is keeping his movement pretty limited. “but are you going to spend all your recovery time watching volleyball? seems like it’s just rubbing salt into the wound.”

if someone asked you to describe atsumu in limited words, your first thought would be “career-driven”—so much so that he was willing to ignore the growing pain in his ankle until it was too late to prevent further injury. all it took was one miscalculated landing for him to end up in the hospital and off the court. now that he’s confined to the house, there is a notable difference in his demeanor, the air about him. 

“gotta stay sharp,” he mumbles through the food in his mouth, “i can’t play or practice so this is the next best thing.”

you’ve always admired his work ethic, but his unwillingness to relax every once in a while concerns you. even when he’s being forced to take a step back from his job, his mind still finds a way to circle back to work. you never want to see him hurt, out of the game, but you’re glad that he’s finally physically resting.

“i know it sucks, but maybe you really needed this break. even if you didn’t, at the very least, it’s a reminder to be more careful and listen to your body.” you give his shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “i’m sure it’ll feel like no time before you’re back in action.”

the blonde hums in acknowledgment, though, it’s clear that your words do little to console him. the thought of having him home more often leaves you happy despite the circumstances, but is it really worth it if you’re in the presence of only a shell of the man you fell in love with?

your mind wanders to thoughts of how to cheer atsumu up while you wash the dishes from lunch. by the time you’re finished, you’ve come up with an idea that is a sure way to pull your boyfriend out of his slump.

you return to the living room with a pouch of stationery supplies and take a seat on the floor near atsumu’s propped leg. he glances down at you, curiosity sparkling in his dark eyes as you uncap one of the colorful sharpies.

“what are you doing?” he questions. looks like something other than volleyball has captured his attention.

“what’s it look like? i’m decorating your cast.”

atsumu huffs out a laugh and shakes his head but his gaze stayed glued to your carefully moving hand as it drags the ink across the cast. he bites his cheek to hold back a laugh at your tongue poking out from between your lips. he can’t quite tell what you’re drawing, but he can confidently say that you’re laser-focused on it.

“all done!” you proudly announce, tossing the pen off to the side. simple doodles and phrases like “world’s best boyfriend” and “japan’s #1 setter” are scattered about the cast encasing the lower half of his leg. you might be biased, but it doesn’t look half bad. “what do you think?”

your act is a childish sentiment, but you can’t help but hope the silly gesture is enough to bring the setter some much needed joy.

atsumu smiles—the first genuine smile he’s worn since receiving the news that he wouldn’t be able to play for the rest of the season. while he’d much rather be busy at work than restricted to his couch and bed, he has to admit that being able to spend some time with you is the best of this otherwise unfavorable situation. he figures that you had picked up on the shift in his mood and were attempting to lift his spirits. how could he not love it? “looks great. way better than plain white.”

and you smile, too. because when atsumu is happy, you’re happy.

Could you make a quick tutorial on drawing fingers?

Sure! Pardon the quality, I'm on my lunch break at work.

SO I kind of cheat a little, in that when I'm just doing a doodle, I don't use references- I kinda just wing it like this? The palm is pretty much always the same shape, so I start with a square, and the fingers are never wider than the palm, so an arch of the same width does most if the work for me:

And from the side, I can kinda cheat that too, since the fingers are usually the same thickness all around and, again, never thicker than the palm:

and depth is where it starts to get. Fucky.

For depth, I usually start with the square I know the palm is, then just scribble in the general shape the fingers are making:

and then break those noodle curves into three-part segments after. And really, they'd look a lot more ridiculous without the nails- the curve of the nails is adding to the illusion of a tube curled forwards, instead of like. An awkward blobby jellybean shape

And for more complex poses, I usually take photos of my own hands, or hold a pose with my left while drawing with my right.

Really, for fingers or hands or anything else at all, I only ever have two reliable tips for anyone:

Don't draw what it is. Draw what it LOOKS LIKE. If you try and draw a hand that looks like a hand is structured, you have to build an entire model inside your head that looks the same as the one you see and THEN you have to make your brain translate it perfectly to paper. If you just draw what you see, with no other assumptions, the path is much shorter.

IE, You don't need to know how something works. You just need to accept it for what it is. (This is why you don't see most of my pinky in the gourth example sketch- if I can't see it, it doesn't exist.)

And 2. Just fucking bullshit it. Is it anatomically accurate? Sure. But if your eyes still say it's bad, tweak it. There are no rules. Do what you gotta do to make it convincing, not real. Real things look fake all the time. Make something fake that looks real. Far simpler to pull off.

skater!eddie is boggling my mind so bad like just eddie alone is so hot and so cool and so dorky and nerdy but now HE ALSO SKATES???

i just know he would own a black board with the hellfire logo underneath. (he lets you draw cute lil doodles on it and smothers u in kisses when u show him the finished product bc he loves it and u so much🥹)

he!! has!! a!! nose!! ring!!!

and he has a dirty black converse that he NEVER EVER TAKES OFF. that white man is probably wearing those converses in the house and you chide him for it so he blushes and quietly says ‘sorry, hun’ and takes them off quickly !!!!! (he also lets u draw little stars on it and insists u put ur initials <33)

skater!eddie who is hooked the moment he first sees u!!! he tries to impress u by doing flips and once u notice him and can’t take ur eyes off of him he gets nervous and trips >:( then u go to ask him if he’s ok and u give him a worried look and he almost MELTS but tries to act all cool “‘m fine! this shit happens all the time, honey, i’m used to it” but once u leave hes screaming in agony.

skater!eddie who teaches u how to skate and he’s so nervous each time you wobble on the board!! he catches u the second you look like u were gonna fall and u giggle at him and hes SOOO SMITTEN and makes stupid pick up lines each time he catches u like “oh! let me tie your shoes so u don’t fall for anyone else, sweetheart” and he has the biggest smuggest grin on his face and winks at u each time <33

and he encourages u no matter how many times u fail or trip >:( he gives u a warm smile as he kisses the top of your head, “you’re doin’ so well princess, wanna try one more?” his heart aches when u get any scrapes, taking care of them the second u come home!! “don’t worry, sweetheart, i’ll take care of it. hey, you want hello kitty plasters or lil puppy ones?” he says giving u a childish grin as he holds the pink plasters in front of u!! carefully placing them as he gives them a lil kiss to heal <33

and when he breaks his board after years of using it hes all grumpy and upset >:( and u feel so bad bc he loved that lil black board sm so u save some money and the first thing you do is ask max where to find the best boards so she helps u get him another one <33 and u draw the hellfire logo by yourself and draw little hearts on it and when u give it to eddie he almost tears up, looking at u with admiration ‘you–you did this all for me?” you nod with a warm smile on your face and the tears are READY to fall from his pretty honey glazed eyes bc no one has ever gotten him anything before, especially not something as expensive as this :(( and he gives u the biggest hug with the sloppiest kiss as he thanks u over and over again, he’s so glad to have you in his life. his honey, his angel, his girl.

hey guys! i’ve got a bit of a (big) life update for y’all.

unfortunately, i’m having to figure out a new living situation pretty unexpectedly. my roommate and i talked, and basically he’s wanting to live on his own again. so i’ve got about two months to get moved out of here and find a new place. (i’m working on it! luckily i recently reconnected with a friend who’s a real estate agent, so who knows - maybe i’ll get my own damn house >:D)

for anybody that follows me on ko-fi, you might have seen the update i put there. this is a more detailed version of that.

basically, this means (and i am so so so SO sorry about this) it’s going to be a while before i can get a lot of these charm orders out.

i’m going to try my best to get out what i can in-between packing, but don’t be surprised if your order takes several months to ship. again, i’m so sorry - i know it took me ages to even get them listed.

one of the other things this is going to effect may be sticker orders and new stickers.

i try to include free doodles with my sticker orders, and i am going to continue to try and do that, but some of you may not receive a doodle, and for that i’m sorry.

i had intended to start printing and eventually list my new halloween dca sticker design by october first at the absolute latest. but with the whole “ideally be moved out within two months at the latest, earlier if possible,” thing, that may not be happening.

i’m still gonna try, though!!!!! i’ll try and save my sticker making things for later in the packing process, and maybe try and get that stuff figured out before the end of this month. we’ll see if i can juggle it with everything else - i really think it’s dependent on me catching up on my other orders, first.

in addition to all of this, i’m still out of work on FMLA for my back problems. on the bright side - my appointment is FINALLY coming up!!! yippee!!! but that also means i have to take a lot of breaks from packing and working on stickers because… back hurty. but it ALSO means i have the time to do all this stuff, breaks included, because i’m not working. so…silver linings, am i right? :D

also just wanna say thank you to everybody again - i have made SO many friends in this fandom, and i’ve had a blast being able to make stickers and finally charms!!!! half the reason i’ve been able to bounce back so quick after getting this news the other day is because i’ve already had some of my pals who saw my kofi post messaging me and wishing me well. and the money from the charm orders is gonna help ease the moving/shopping process a lot, so - thank you all so much!!!!

Art Advice I’ve Picked Up

This is mostly aimed at myself, someone who’s been doing art a long time, and someone who made their hobby into their job and how it fucking sucks. This isn't advice for art as a career, more for those who got burned from trying to make it their career, and now want to turn it back into a passion or hobby.

Don’t draw through the pain, don’t try to power through the pain, it doesn’t work. It’s never worth it and you will fuck up your hands, arms and shoulders.

Take a break, take the damn break, rest your arms, hands whatever and do the stretches! They do work! 

Taking a break obviously helps if you’re hitting a brick wall with drawing, you might feel like everything you make is shit and a ton of other awful thoughts. Take a break, get a drink, some food or walk around and come back later

If the shitty feelings persist, move on to something else and tell yourself that the bad feelings don’t last forever, you won’t feel like a shitty artist forever. That feeling could go away in a day, or even an hour.

Imposter syndrome is awful and will try to ruin your day, be aware of it, I still struggle a lot with it too. But just by realising it exists can you make you more self aware about it in future.

Just because you’re good at art doesn’t mean you should make it your job. Turning any hobby into a job will make you lose the love for it.

You will burnout if you try to keep art a job and a hobby, you will not have time to draw for yourself, you will not be able work on all those passion projects and ideas. You will burn out, you will start to hate art.

This happened to me, and I’m still trying to unlearn the unhealthy habits I formed when it was my job, it’s very hard making art fun, and indulgent for myself. But I’m trying.

If you do make art your job, make sure you have hobbies that are not related to art. It’s really good if one of these hobbies can be outdoorsy too, I like biking a lot. But do what you can with what you have.

There will never be a perfect time to start drawing, or any other creative project. You can clear a whole month to work on something and you will waste that time, because your trying to make a perfect moment to be creative you’re putting unnecessary pressure on yourself.

The only perfect moment is now.

The perfect materials are what you have with you.

The only skills you have are the ones you have now.

No waiting until you can draw or write better, or saving a project till you’re more skilled, the only time to do it is now, even if you’re writing in between bus journeys or doodling on a scrap of paper, make that new Renpy file while waiting for the microwave to ding.

Learning to make that first step is also the most important, and learning that the first stroke doesn’t have to be so precious.

Learning when to give up on something that isn’t working is also a good skill. Sometimes a project doesn’t work out and we don’t finish it or we need to quit, it can be painful but there’s still a lot to learn from unfinished works.

You can recycle old ideas, nothing is wasted even if you don’t finish.

Trim your dreams, TRIM THE DAMN DREAMS. 

Don’t let s project outgrow your skills, or what you’re actually capable of, there’s a lot of things to take into consideration like, money, time, energy.

You can start a big, huge projects and realise it wasn’t what your actually wanted to make in the first place.

Making a game? Why are you making a 20 plus hour, 3D platform shooter with puzzle and farming mechanics as a solo dev? Trim those damn dreams. Dreaming is good and I know it’s fun but it’s easy to let an idea grow into an oak tree, it becomes all consuming and a burden to carry round.

So trim back, oak trees are beautiful but never underestimate a daisy

And eventually you could have a whole field of flowers and shrubs, instead of one oak tree.

Trying to find an audience online is bullshit, trying to create art that’s got mass appeal is bullshit, social media is a horrible place for creative pursuits, but it’s the best we have at the minute.

Make the things you want to see, I know that’s in a lot of art advice but that's because it’s true. You can fall into a trap of thinking only in numbers and engagement, of chasing praise and approval and in the end it will feel hollow, because you only ever made things to appeal to others.

And so you your only gain approval and engagement from a place that isn't authentic.

So yes, make that self insert OC, or “Cringey” dating Sim

Also, trying to find an audience can trap you into doing one thing, aka a one trick pony, because you’re are rewarded for making repetitive “content” with engagement and likes, and punished when you try something new, because it doesn’t do as well.

Never fucking call your art/creations “content.” You are not a machine making things to be consumed.

You have limited resources when it comes to art, both in time, money and even your own body.

Yes, you do have to treat your own body as a limited resource, like the very first tips, its so easy to destroy your own body in the pursuit of creating something, your eyes, hands, arms, shoulders even your brain.

So take every shortcut you can, trace 3d models, use photographs for backgrounds whatever you think of that can make the creation process easier and less time-consuming, you'll thank yourself later, when you can still pick up a pen without vice like pain.

That’s all I can think of for now, but I’ll update it if I think of something else, I’m sorry for spelling errors and if it sounds a little bitter, I started this when I was suffering a spell of tendinitis in my wrist. I mostly wrote this as a reminder to myself, but I hope maybe it can help someone else out. 💜

Can you give me a few art tips i want to be able to draw sin kiske too

I am not the greatest at explaining things or giving advice. These tips are just what many artists have already said and points that *I* personally agree with or have helped *me*. The reason why I am putting emphasis on myself is because everyone is different so what helps *me* might not help you. These things you will have to figure out yourself, BUT there are many MANY art tutorials from different artists with different styles so maybe you can find something there! Anyways moving on-

Don‘t think too much and just DOODLE DOODLE AND MORE DOODLING

I am serious, turn that brain off and start doodling. I had this mental barrier for sometime (that I am still struggling with) where I just didn‘t feel confident in my art and didn‘t even wanna START drawing, bc I felt like everything sucked ass. But just turning that brain off and mindlessly doodling is so SO great because it doesn‘t have to be perfect or anything AND through the repeating motions of sketching you‘re training your hand to become better at making nice smooth strokes. Sketching mindlessly is honestly very theraputic for me, cuz I just get to have silly fun. There‘s no pressure in doing things. AND sometimes doodling mindlessly can lead to great ideas.

Tracing/Referencing

Ik there‘s lots of discourse about tracing and referencing in the art community, but I can only tell you that this has been extremely helpful for me and getting my anatomy right. While tracing helps getting the placements of body parts and lines right, referencing really helps train your eyes what to look for. You‘ll start to recognize familiar shapes that are prevalent in almost all body types or certain things that are almost always there in nature. Tracing can also help you get more familiar in the way that you draw certain things. These techniques are all about familiarizing yourself with whatever you‘re trying to draw (bodies, faces, landscapes etc) and engraving it into your mind. Ofc if you decide to post something where you traced or referenced something it‘s always good to show your sources, but this is mostly something to do in private.

Take breaks, treat yourself with something nice :)

Art can be tiring, so be sure to always ALWAYS take breaks when you feel like its about to get frustrating and maybe eat something, do something else to replenish that art juice, yeah? Breaks can last however long you want. Whats most important is that you won‘t start hating the process cuz this shit can be mentally taxing so breaks are super important. Even if the break takes a year or something, art can always wait and its not like you‘ll immediately forget all your skills that you have gained yk? Maybe you‘ll get rusty but muscle memory is one hell of a thing. You‘ll get the hang of it in no time!

Get shiggy wiggy with it

What I mean by this is to just have fun. Art is supposed to be enjoyable, so I say go crazy, go stupid with it. Like who gives a shit if its stupid or cringe? Just have fun! Don‘t let someone ruin the fun in art for you, okay? These people stink anyway smh my head… they just don‘t understand the joy of creating a beautiful art piece about ur favourite charaters doing dumb shit or kissing each other. (Just uh… don‘t get illegal with it)

Get obsessed with something. I am very serious about this

Unironically, getting obsessed with a character or franchise has helped me a lot to keep being motivated to draw. Like a character that just makes you so so happy that you just keep drawing them (I mean, look at me 💀), which goes back to the first point. Being obsessed with something can keep you drawing something for a long time. And it gives you a big ass serotonin boost. However-

Try something new!

Drawing the same thing over and over again is great, but it can get stagnant really quick. So sometimes you have to try something new, stuff that might be difficult or things you aren‘t really confident yet (like hands. Yeah I know, its a nightmare). Doing this will make your skillset much bigger and may deepen your understanding on how stuff works cuz this art stuff is really interconected. Like, if you know one thing then maybe you can also do the other.

Take it slow. Be easy on yourself

There is ALWAYS this constant need to improve. Especially on social media, where artists are expected to improve in lightning speeds or post the perfect art pieces (and tbh some of these might be self imposed too). But you really, you don‘t. Just enjoy it at your own pace, be proud of the stuff you made. Save it, keep it and look back on it to see how much you‘ve improved. Don‘t view art as something you need to be perfect at, but just as something that makes you happy. An outlet for your feelings. Something to do when you‘re bored. Or stuff like that, cuz it‘s really not that serious UNLESS you want it to be like a job or something. So be patient, because art is a marathon, not a sprint. There is no need to hurry.

Aannddd if you wanna be able to draw Sin specifically then channel your inner whimsical creature, become jolly, be silly and get shiggy wiggy with it :)))

How do i find the motivation to practice art? I have so many shitposts that’ll never come to fruition because my skills plateaued ):

No one else is going to draw my ideas and I'm too broke to pay someone else to do it for me. For better or worse, I seem to approach a lot of things from a "gotta do everything myself around here" angle haha

Honestly—and I won't lie to you—doing art studies is a real pain in the ass, I hate doing them. I never do them unless I've got major art block, and even then I still hate doing them, but it's like taking medicine and I know doing them will make me better. Every art teacher I've ever had's grilled me about this, "solradguy, you need to do 15 studies before the end of the week to get a full grade this quarter." Blah blah blah.

I guess for some people doing studies could be fun, not having to think about pose or composition, whatever, just putting lines down on paper and focus on your reference. One time, when I was still in college, I had to do a certain amount of studies in charcoal so I booted up Red Dead Redemption and drew landscapes or objects from it that I kinda liked. It was enough. I told my professor it was from my grandma's farm hehe

Art memes can be a good way to practice too, especially those ones about drawing in different styles or drawing a character in different outfits. They combine fun with tricking you into drawing things you might not normally draw. Emulating different art styles is the only art study method that doesn't make me want to fall asleep. Don't forget they're just art games though, and especially don't forget:

As you get better at art, you start noticing improvements less and less because they become more subtle. When you're really new to art, figuring out stuff like basic anatomy or shading is REALLY obvious because they're foundational parts of art. Hang on to your really old stuff and look at it every now and then and I guarantee you'll have improved way more than you thought you had.

I get the impression you've probably been at art for a while now, and I don't want to come across as patronizing, but sometimes refreshing the basics can help overcome a plateau too. Drawabox is usually what I recommend to people just getting into art, I really like their approach. While it's probably beneficial to actually do the exercises in the lessons, just skimming through reading them can be good too.

Something I've noticed a lot of my artists friends (and artists online) do is try to make every single drawing a finished piece, and I'm like "damn, no wonder art feels like such a chore." My sketchbook is 99% scribbles done in pen:

I use Pentel RSVP fine point ballpoint pens so if I make a mistake I'm forced to deal with it. Doing these rough sketches before starting a bigger piece is something I recommend with my entire heart. Just get a pack of shitty $0.99 pens and doodle like it's high school math class. I like the cheap pens because you can get faint lines drawing lightly and can coax them into darker lines with a bit more pressure (and if you lose/break one it's no big deal).

The best way to get better at art is to keep putting lines on paper. Even if it's just silly pen doodles, you're still improving coordination/pen control, improving construction of basic shapes, exploring concepts, and thinking about art, which will lead to more new ideas and further inspiration.

How do you stay as motivated as you usually are? I... I'll be honest and I'm sorry for sounding so personal, but I've been going through some rough times, I can't even pick up a pencil to draw, and I've been feeling so unenergetic... Which sucks, I want to become as great as you, as I really do!!

I'm just very passionate about my characters and work!! It's no exaggeration when I say I am thinking about them every second of every day. I mean it with my whole chest, I am always thinking about them. They make me happy and so I'm always happy when I get to do stuff with them!!

HOWEVER!! That doesn't mean I'm immune to burnout either! I don't know you or what you're going through--maybe it's burnout, maybe it's a depressive episode, maybe it's something else entirely! etc--but when I'm feeling in a rut (which I actually have been this week, I'd say!), there's some things I like to try and do to make myself feel better. I don't know if they'll work for you, but it's worth a shot!

-Take dedicated breaks. Not just like, a 15 minute break. Like a whole day or 2 or even longer break. Of course if you have responsibilities like school and/or work you might not be able to take a break from those, but take a break from your creative endeavors for a bit. Play a videogame, watch a tv show or movie or video you want to/like, go outside if you're able to even if just to sit in the sun or listen to music! (Though it's winter in the nothern hemisphere, so maybe just dance around to music in your kitchen or something haha!) I often find that once I've been able to actually let myself have fun in other ways, I then want to come back to doing all my creative stuff and I feel more energetic about it!

-Be creative in other ways! Try to branch outside your normal mediums. If you draw a lot digitally, make something traditionally! If you usually illustrate, try playing with something like clay or strings or building blocks! Cut apart magazines and try to make collages! Of course, this isn't always accessible to everyone, especially if you need to spend money to buy some of this stuff. But even if it's as simple as filling a notebook page with doodles, it's still worth doing! The MOST important part of this though is to do it for yourself--do not worry about how the end result will come out, do not worry about sharing it to other people. You can later on if you want to, but you need to go into it knowing that your goal is to HAVE FUN! not to make a successful or consumable product.

-Draw what you want to draw. It's not secret that my most popular games are games like INMIMB and Crowscare. I could probably be attracting a lot more attention on that stuff if I drew those characters more. But Mary and Reggie are my favorite subjects to draw, so that's what I draw! And when I do that, it makes art feel like not-a-chore, but something to be enjoyed! When making my games, I have to make a lot of art for them too! Sometimes I can choose between getting a new cutscene image done, or drawing an idea I just really want to draw. And sometimes choosing the latter is rewarding because I had fun drawing it and then I can come back to the cutscene image satisfied! Draw the things you like and it will help remind you why art is so fun! Hope this isn't too long of a read! Keep your head up, champ! Just because you're not where you wanna be now doesn't mean you'll never get there! I believe in you, but most importantly believe in yourself!

And then there’s you, top of the class, and super strict in the methods that you get stuff done, how it’s done, and being an incredible model student over all!

Even if Drayton is your boyfriend you’re going to have to do everything to get this dude to work on anything.

A lot of the dates you two have are study dates, because someone is behind on their work!!!

Your conversations are either normal chitchat, or surprisingly deep.

The two of you talk about what you want to do in life quite a bit, though with Drayton, he talks about living in the moment more and having fun with what you have now.

He’s actually quite a good listener, he’ll listen to you while you talk about your plans, since you’re quite straightforward and set about what you want to do.

And Drayton really likes that in you. He adores the fact that you know what you wanna do when you’re out of BB Academy.

I think that in a way, you’re his motivation. He gets a little more work done than usual, he wants to leave the school by your side.

You also can’t help but bend your rules for him, despite how firm you are with them normally.

Ortega gives you a headache. You love the guy to death, but he gives you a massive headache a lot of the time.

Why? He’s never at school. Ever. Hasn’t been for a year, but you still don’t give up, asking him to attend regularly.

You do know he’s safe, but you find it sorta lonely during school hours, although you do have other friends you miss your sassy little boyfriend :,(

You do meet up a lot after school though. When he’s not hanging out with team star, over his base or attending his piano lessons, he spends time with you.

And I think being a model student would mean that you’d do a lot of extracurricular activities, and one of them would be piano!

Ortega would enjoy practicing piano with you in his free time. It’s one of his favourite things to do with you!

You’re able to keep up with him and not trip up with mistakes, which he’s impressed at. How are you so effortlessly good with it?

Ortega teases you about how much of a ‘good student’ you are, and asks you to skip with him!

Despite the teasing though, the moment he comes back to school he’s with you much more often.

He finds school easier to attend because he’s able to feel more settled in quickly (although the teachers themselves do a really good job at that!) and well… it’s you!

Because he’s skipped out on school so much, he’s got to catch up so he isn’t behind. Who’s his #1 tutor? You!

Although he does study sessions with team star quite a lot, you’re his first option. He wants to use it to make up for the time lost from him not being at school with you

Singer

When Monty first hears your singing, he might be a lot a bit jealous as he isn't the best singer and to hear your melodic voice irks him, at first.

But when Monty finds out it's you, one of his hatchlings, or his peach, he'll do his best to stay out of sight, embarrassment overheating his wires as how jealous he was.

Monty's embarrassment will quickly overload his system and turn to rage so you'll hear him rampage and go quiet.

Monty's rage is only further infuriated by that, and he'll stalk off before he scares you again destroys anything else.

But every time Monty hears you secretly singing, it'll draw him in. He finds your voice soothing to him, cooling down the ever present pain in his processors.

Monty will figure out from how you only sing in private, quiet times that you're quite shy about it, so it'll take some time for him to approach.

But once Monty does find the courage to approach, everything about his attitude changes in your presence. No longer the aggressive monster, but a soft bellied alligator.

Monty understands your shy about your voice, but slowly, gently he'll convince you to sing for him once more, a sound that he's delight to hear.

Once you start singing around him, Monty will seek you out anytime his anger reaches a point he can't control it any longer. He'll sit quietly, unwilling to let you see his anger and scare you off again, he still remembers the first time it happened.

As you sing for Monty, his anger diminishes, replaced with warm memories and a sense of comfort.

But Monty won't seek you out only in times of his need; as time has passed, he's started to understand there are songs you sing when you're happy, sad, lonely and seeking help.

All of your songs are memorized, and Monty will be there for each of them. When he hears one of your happy ones, the joy in your voice, he'll pitch in as best as he can with his bass.

Sad and lonely songs, Monty will be there to comfort you as you sing your songs of pain and frustration. There at your side, holding you close him, tail wrapped around as he gently wipes away your tears.

Monty won't ever push you to sing in front of the others, but if you want to, he'll be there at your side to give you the courage you need to overcome your stage fright.

Artist

How Monty finds out about your artsy side could happen a couple different ways; running into him late to clock in and contents spill out of your arms or bag, sketch book fluttered open.

Or Monty finds you on break, security office, or deep in Gator Golf, sketching away, oblivious to the sudden company.

Either way, Monty will be shocked to find such a hidden talent in one of his hatchlings, or his peach, and wants to see more of it.

Monty will hunt you down after you run off, embarrassment flooding your mind at the fact that he found out.

Despite being an aggravated alligator, Monty won't push if you say no. But he will occasionally ask until you cave.

When you finally show him your sketches, paintings, doodles, Monty will love each of them as they're something you created.

Stuck in a canal with artist's block, Monty will do his best to help you, giving you ideas or just giving you the much needed break and play his bass for you.

Now if Monty happens to find your secret book, filled with your favorite personal pieces or sketches of him and his gang, whatever you keep secret, he'll pretend he never saw it.

Though Monty won't know it's a secret book unless it states as such, or you tell him. But he'll still sneak a few peaks when you aren't looking.

If you ever have an artist's block, Monty will do his best to help you out of it. Going so far as to steal borrow coloring supplies from the daycare.

Monty will sit and color with you for hours, drawing doodles as best he can, giving you a much needed break.

I have officially submitted all of my final projects! Just one more exam tomorrow and then I’m free for winter break! I’ll resume comic posting next Sunday now that I’ll finally be able to chill and draw again, but in the meantime, here are all of the ask replies I’ve been neglecting! Got the inbox cleared out again :)

In theory, only that specific color of tan-brown narration rectangles are from Andrew, but so far, he’s been the only one giving narration. So, in short- yes, all of the narration panels come from Andrew!

And for your second question, that will be discussed more in-depth in coming chapters!

Kinda? Terraria has the ability to resurrect people. It’s not an entirely pleasant process, and takes longer depending on one’s age and power, but she can do it -- the whole reason why the Dryads died out was because of how much Cthulhu/Moonlord had drained her power, to the point where she couldn’t resurrect any of them, let alone create more. Hence why a few decades past the end of the war, as she regained some strength, she created the first Guides and the Guardian of the Underworld!

(Using things like intent/strength very loosely here, as it’s hard to pin such terms to a god who’s so nebulous and a part of the world rather than something you can speak to, but they’re the best descriptors!)

It is rare for someone to “respawn,” since it has to be Terraria’s will that they do so. You can’t just jump off a cliff and wake up seconds later in bed, unharmed. But it can happen, and will be discussed in a later chapter, as Andrew himself has died before.

Really, though, I feel like I’ve learned and improved a lot over the past two years of working on this comic, so I’m glad that you enjoy the art!

Yep! I’ve doodled him wearing a skirt a couple times before, but it’s never come up in the main comic before this chapter.

Word gets around! The comic takes place in a pretty isolated region; it’s quite far out from the more settled areas and only has a few significant villages scattered throughout the various biomes in the area. So with such a low population, just about any news at all gets around quick, because everyone knows each other.

As far as that news spreading outside of that region goes, word might get out as rumor by traders or the like, but Andrew would probably be the main source of spreading that news, due to him being a Guide who’s trusted and reliable.

And “have there been people who have tried to fight it in the past and lost?” In a general sense, I’m sure there have been, but it won’t be a subject of focus in the comic. Most people who take on any sort of “adventuring” role either go into it for the money/magic items they find left by those who inhabited regions before them before such crafts were lost, or fall into a local hero role who handles things like Blood Moons. And even then, that’s mostly restricted to areas that are still mostly untamed and have ruins and similar, like the area around Purity Town; places like where Chris grew up have long-since been reclaimed for civilization.

The Eye is such an ancient, inherent part of the world that it’s hardly even thought of as a “thing” you can target. What Chris did is...kind of crazy, and a show of raw, unfocused power. But Andrew is specifically drawing him down this path, trying to help Chris reign in his abilities over time and grow.

He’s had that hair tie since his very first appearance! As for where it came from…Chris is the sort to very rarely buy things for himself over others, but is from an area on the sea that often saw trader ships come through, so it was probably either a small gift from someone else or a special treat for himself. And hey, a pretty-colored hair tie that can keep hair like Chris’ in check (mostly) and doesn’t break or stretch out is a fantastical thing!

The actual explanation for why they haven’t shown up yet is that I either don’t have a good design for them or don’t have the time/energy to add them -- a lot of stuff gets cut, and NPCs that I wanted to sneak into backgrounds while characters are in-town don’t make it in. The tavernkeep falls into the first category (I just don’t have a design for him), while the merchant falls into the second one.

I definitely want to add more of the other NPCs into the story! It’s just difficult to do so, sometimes.

It wasn’t a part of the original script, but I’ve had a bunch of ideas for it, and so I was thinking of sneaking in a little chapter 6.5 aether interlude! Either that or bundling it up into the start of chapter 7, depending on how chapter lengths work out. It won’t be a huge thing, but I do want to include it!

It’s hard to measure the time it takes, honestly. I find it very difficult to sit and work on Purity Town for longer stints without getting distracted; I’m often either understimulated or overstimulated and either one destroys my ability to focus and draw. With all of my schoolwork I tend to be very tired by the end of the week and want to just chill, which doesn’t help much. This isn’t a complaint, to be clear! I love working on Purity Town. It’s just difficult to do sometimes, and that makes things take a lot longer than they “should.”

I tend to have Saturdays be my “off” days, where most other days I have chores and school and homework, and so all of my drawing really takes place on Saturdays, and I do use most of the day to do it. But again, because I can’t stay focused on drawing for long and get distracted by other things easily, it’s hard to measure anything for certain.

All of his theories are founded at least to some extent in reality! Malik and Andrew have some history and have known each other long enough for Malik to pick up on those sorts of things; he’s quite perceptive.

None of them are explicitly correct, but he’s not entirely off!

YOU WENT TO ART SCHOOL? I thought you were self taught damn. Impart some wisdom on us sire

i have a whopping semester and a half at LUCAD under my belt yeah but in all fairness i spent the entire time holed up in my dorm room playing warframe and having mental breakdowns instead of actually paying much attention or doing my assignments. it’s really not all it’s cracked up to be tbh, there’s no secret ~insider knowledge~ that you get at art school TM and nowhere else. the only thing i retained was a few very basic composition tips (avoid tangents, pay attention to where the eye is drawn, utilize color and light to guide the viewer through the piece). the only thing i regret was not sticking around long enough to do any life drawing courses because my human anatomy is still pretty wonky. most of the stuff i learned i could’ve looked up online for free and probably would’ve understood better that way. it’s whatever, really.

you wanna know my wisdom? use references whenever you might need them, tracing isn’t evil and can help figure out where the moving parts go on complicated objects (just don’t outright trace other peoples art and claim it ofc, but tracing a stock photo for a pose or something is not punishable by death) and get sillay with it. play with mediums and styles and methods. don’t focus on making ‘good’ art, just have fun with it. once you figure out what works for you it’ll start to fall into place. draw with as loose a hand as you’re comfortable with (i ahve tremors so i get how it’s hard, but try to move with your shoulder and elbow as opposed to putting all your tension on your wrist) and stretch often. take breaks and come back to pieces with fresh eyes when you’re starting to get frustrated. don’t be afraid to ask for critique or advice. play with color and light and shadow. allow yourself to take inspiration from artists you admire, be it style or technique. let yourself make mistakes and don’t strive for perfection. don’t be afraid to take shortcuts that make your life easier (i spent years manually coloring everything i drew because i felt like the full tool and mask layers were ‘cheating’ somehow. it literally does not matter. do whatever you want). make bad art. make silly art. doodle in the margins of notes and the backs of receipts. art is subjective and you can do whatever you want forever

also, don’t feel like you NEED go to art school to be an artist. i was only there for a semester and a half *on scholarship* before i realized i had no desire to get a degree and it still took me like five years to pay that shit off. you’re in no way obligated to drown yourself in debt for a piece of paper. also, acting like someone suddenly becomes an authority on art just because they went to art school is weird lol. schooling has no bearing on skill because skill is subjective and art is whatever you make of it. be free

Scenario

Person A brutally murdering their captor, only to return home and break down, realizing what they have done.

Person B throws up while Person A rubs their back and holds back their hair.

In a kingdom, Person B is the successor of the throne, but they fall in love with Person A who is a simple baker. Person B would rather live a simple life running the bakery with Person A than rule the kingdom.

Everyone around Person B and Person A know they have something going on, but they are completely oblivious.

Person A can tell that Person B is having a nightmare because they’re making weird noises/motions in their sleep so Person A wakes them up and asks if they’re okay.

Person A makes hot chocolate for Person B but when they hand them their mug, Person A drops it spilling the piping hot drink on Person B. Person A then helps Person B clean themself up and treat any burns they might have.

Person A and Person B were supposed to go out for a date but a snow storm hits and they get snowed in. Person A is really sad about it so Person B builds them a blanket fort so they can spend the evening snuggling and watching Christmas movies together.

Person B and Person A watching a horror movie and Person A is scared to sleep alone, so Person B keeps them awake all night, talking about whatever comes to mind.

A friend drawing on Person A and Person B's faces when they sleep. They wake up to see each other faces covered in silly doodles.

Person A and Person B go to a fair/amusement park and Person A wants to go on the roller coaster and Person B agrees. Later, Person B regrets their decision and ends up clinging onto Person A for dear life.

Person B hiding in a closet to jump out and surprise Person A, but Person A just keeps not going near the closet by chance.

Person A having pizzas delivered unaware that Person B has also ordered pizzas and both of them bursting into laughter when two pizza delivery people arrive at the door.

Person A, who is usually not the type to show negative emotion, breaks down in front of Person b.

Imagine Person A and Person B as secret santas.

Person A and B both frequent the same arcade and both have the same favorite arcade game. When Person A gets the new highscore Person B comes back the next weekend and tops that score. In a slightly childish back and forth they keep trying to beat each others highscores every weekend. When Person C comes in and tops both of their highscores by a huge margin they have to team up to beat Person C, together.
