i typed a more lengthy response to this b4 nd tumblr just. nuked it so i’ll just say that while yes this season has numerous problems and bits that i’m not the biggest fan of (hello russia plot, hello stranger things’ patented oddly written bullying, hello stancybaitgate (no offence intended to my stancy mutuals lov y’all)) this season is a MAJOR step-up from s3. like a HUMONGOUS improvement tbh

highlights from the top of my head:

max’s storyline was done so much more respectfully than i was expecting and genuinely made me cry i love her so much

robin and nancy are soooooooo autistic and fruity this season it’s a blessing

murray and joyce being comedic besties (and making their storyline worthwhile)

eddie and steve are two different flavours of off the fucking walls and i love that for them

i love seeing el’s development as she grows up !!! i just wish that she didn’t get thrown into the deep end of high school

the gore effects this volume were simply chef’s fuckin kiss and greatly appealed to the deranged little horror fanatic in me

continuing on from that, vecna/henry creel was soooooooo creepy and cool i think he’s an awesome villain overall (and much better than some of the other human ones in the show 👀)

and finally. my boy. my bestest boy in the whole wide world. jonathan honeypie byers my fucking beloved. i’m glad that he had more of an introspective storyline than he had last season (and an unfair amount in s2 tbh) and we actually have scenes where he’s the primary focus (if only for a little while). i’m overjoyed he has argyle to be there for him, even if he’s a little misguided at times and doesn’t think things through, because jonathan needs and deserves ppl to be in his corner; he deserves a support system and ppl who care abt him. jonathan’s outfits have also slapped this season, loving all the fruity shirts he’s been wearing. and unpopular opinion maybe, but i also rly like his hair !!!! it’s like an overgrown shaggy version of his s1 hair which i appreciate immensely.

overall i wish that the cali storyline had more screentime (also more el too) in all honesty; i want more big brother byers moments!!!! also more joyce/family interactions, given that the s4 interactions between her and jonathan were limited and not super great. i’m also praying that the love triangle nonsense that’s been abruptly rehashed for s4 (which i’d thought we’d moved way past in season 3??? hello) doesnt shit all over his character development, same going for nancy and steve too; if we’re doing this then for the love of fuck please just give us stoncy. i know they won’t but like. please

rounding off tho, i don’t think that the og jonathan that likeminded jon stans prefer i.e the original characterisation of jonathan, from s1 (ya know: perceptive, responsible, sensitive, artistic, self-aware, passionate, ambitious, stalwart) would rly be very happy with this s4 variant. i’ve seen some ppl view some of his scenes where he’s high off his mind as kind of sad? and i can’t help but compare his lack of awareness and how uninvolved he seems (initially, that is) to how hands-on and “take charge” he used to be (i only put that in quotation marks bc i don’t think that phrase greatly applies to him the majority of the time, since he’s not rly your hopper-esque macho male protag). like when joyce asked him what was wrong with him when he was asking “what’s going on” and repeating the things told to him (processing brand new info under an already influenced mind ofc), that just keeps coming back to me as s1!jonathan asking the same thing to his current self ya know?? like idk if the two met i feel that s1!jonathan would be kind of disappointed in what’s happened to him, if not understanding of his s4!self’s circumstances and also kind of thankful that he’s not as on-edge. hm. much to think abt (or write a fanfiction about 👀)

First of all, yeah go for it. the feralnette au is just the essence of 'go apeshit,' just tag me so I can read it! I read a lot of fanfic on my work breaks lmao

I realize I haven't put my Felix's backstory up, so here's a good time to do that:

The Culpa family actually has no bloodline relation to the Agreste name brand at all - rather, its a textile company that creates the best fabrics and patterns for the discerning eye on the fashion market.

Felix's mother was a really good friend of Emilie, and they would often make a lot of brand deals together based on friendship rather than legalities, because of course who was gonna split up two powerhouse besties? not their husbands! that's playing with fire babey!

When Emilie went missing, Mrs. Culpa was CRUSHED. She was one of the loudest voices in attempting to find her, and was flabbergasted as to why Gabriel wasn't in on the search efforts, instead just boarding himself up in his house, mourning like she was already dead. How could he know something like that if she just went missing, why is he acting like his wife is no longer in the picture if she's just missing?

Gabriel, in his colder line of thinking, began taking advantage of the Culpa company's kindness and dragging them into deals without their consent, riding on the coattails of Emilie's friendship. This did not go over well, because the Culpa family isn't made up of pushovers, and they were hurting just as much about Emilie's disappearance.

This led to a lot of... legal talk, and Gabriel being stripped of a lot of assets. He had to lean on Adrien's looks to get a lot of his repeat customers back after the fiasco that was 'the Agreste brand loses their best deal with the strongest Textile company in this hemisphere, sorry about the shit quality of your clothes now."

When the Culpa's found out Gabriel was taking this out on Adrien - because of course he is, who locks a boy in a tower with a bunch of crap like they're an easily soothed pet? - they offered an olive branch. Felix was interested in some classes in France, and he wanted to get a flavor for the area, since he's also big on fashion. If Gabriel hosts Felix (who'll act as eyes and ears for his parents on picking up clues as to what happened to Emilie) then they'll release some of their assets back to him. That shouldn't be hard for a man made of money, and especially not for Emilie's HUSBAND, and this way Felix can help out the young heir for the Agreste company, steer him away from being a total shit like his dad and give him a little bit of support at home.

That would be huge for the company if Gabriel can pull it off, not to mention Nathalie is buzzing in his ear constantly about the kind of funds they're losing looking for better quality fabrics among third party dealers. He just has to deal with what he assumed to be another Adrien in his house, and that should be easy enough, teenage boys are distractible.

Instead, he gets Felix Culpa, who was raised by his hawkish parents in the art of 'don't let anyone take advantage of your kindness, and shower your allies in it when you know they're worth it,' who is dealing with absolutely zero of Gabriel's nonsense but also has to live under his roof. (He really did promise his parents he'd find out what happened to 'auntie' Emilie.)

This is frustrating for both parties, one because Gabriel DOES have permission to ground Felix or whatever, he is the adult overseer, but the moment Felix decides he's being a total jackass, he gets to pull the plug on this textile deal, and GOD if Audrey finds out he fucked up another deal she'll yell at him till his ears fall off

in a nutshell, if Gabriel wants his company to not go under bc his ass is busy playing supervillain, he has to play the part of host for a teenager that thinks Gabriel was involved in Emilie's disappearance.

"pika, pika-" he looked at your curling form, hands tugging at your stomach as fits of laughter escapes your mouth.

"hey, babe, come on." head turning to your direction, the supposed yellow ears and black at the tip falling off. you cooed at the sight of your blond boyfriend as he stares at you.

you just come across the matching Pikachu onesie pajama online at a really cheap price and, without any hesitation, the package arrived at your shared apartment. being denki, he's always game with your antics and supports the craziest ideas that pops up your mind even in the middle of the night

and so, here you are at the mc donald's while you're boyfriend is trying to order your favorite with the pokemon's famous "pika pika". people are drilling weird stares at the two of you. some are swooning as they recognized the two pro heroes in a matching onesie at 3 am ordering fast food.

you can hear the "aww's" and the "such a cute couple" from the crowd and these positive response makes your the electric hero grinning from ear to ear.

"ya hear that babe? we're the cute pro hero couple." he said as the both of you exit the establishment, chest heaving proudly and smile never leaving his face while swaying your conjoined hands in the air.

you softly yanked his arm signaling him to stop in the middle of the deserted parking lot as another silliness blossoming in your head.

why?" he chuckles when he saw a playful smirk tugging at the corner of your lips while your brows wiggling up and down, almost egging him to find out what you're up to.

as the best boyfriend that he claims to be, he already memorized the meanings behind every expression that pulls off your face and this one, at the moment, is the one where excitement always course through his body every time you have it on. this just means that another smiling, laughing, and fun moments with you that he cherishes with his entire being.

"hurry, hurry!" you shouts at him as he ran towards you. the timer sets down to 1 and another silly pose of you was captured. your phone was propped against the windshield of his car as you suggested having a photo shoot at the parking lot.

it's just not enough to parade the cute onesie that only took a quick exposure with a small crowd. so, why not make this chance to etch this crazy antic of yours with a photograph. "oh my god, babe! that's the cutest and not-so crazy idea you have come up so far," says your boyfriend with a squish of your cheeks and peck on your lips.

half an hour with the impromptu photo shoot, the both of you tried different couple poses which most of the crazy ones was suggested by denki. there was one where the both of you nearly got injured when he put you on his shoulder, both of your arms spreading wide as he balanced with only one foot. luckily, you managed successfully with the pose.

he managed to convince you to piggy back him, carry him in a bridal style, and even tried the fireman's carry with you. the whole shoot, both of your laughs reverberates through the empty space when he fail to pose on time or when he pull off the wackiest face. of course, there were also cute and intimate basic couple pictures.

"pro hero Chargebolt? i think you still have a deal with me to accomplish." you grin at him, waving your phone to remind him something. he sighs when he remembered what you were trying to say.

"oh, babe. do i have to?" he pouts at you, flashing the puppy eyes.

"but you made a promise with me?" now, it's your turn to pout. "well, if that made you feel uncomfortable, i would not force you. i'll respect that-"

"hey, hey, hey. it's just a joke, y/n. i just wanna practice if you're going to give in to my adorable puppy eyes, yeah?" a chuckle left your mouth. really, he's so cute.

"i'm sorry, denki. i just can't help it. you really look so cute!" emphasizing every syllables so that he can really feel your admiration straight to his heart while your hands squishing his cheeks again.

the two of you decided to rest your limbs and eat the take out that's already been cold. with a small banter and jokes thrown either ways and denki doing the cheesiest things like kissing you out of the blue to clean the stray ketchup on the corner of your lips.

"i think there's a bit of mess right here." you told him, smirking at the dripping soda, he saw where you are pointing—your cleavage. he whines, "babe, come on. unless, do you want me to?"

"dance with me, yeah?" he blurts out as you're scrolling down your phone, checking the results of your photo shoot. he's already pulling your hand as he placed your phone at the hood of the car.

"no music?"

"nope" he replies, popping the p, while snaking his hands around your waist. you comfortably pressed your face at his chest as he draws you closer to his body, leaving no space between the two of you, his read resting atop of yours. "i can sing, you know."

you can't refute as it is true that the pro hero Chargebolt can in fact sing which made you really wonder why he didn't disclose it to the public to garner more female fans.

"i only want you to hear my sacred voice, y/n. only you." he once said with his serious tone which made you combust right then and there. because, holy shit, that's so heart flattering, blush-inducing, and makes you feel even more special.

"fuck, you're so beautiful." your eyes met his and you can feel his finger caressing the visible scar on your forehead before kissing it. and this moment feels like your back at your UA days when you both realize that you fell in love with each other.

"aww thank you, denki." heart swelling, you cupped his cheeks and tiptoed to place a kiss on his lips. this night adds to the list of the longest and genuine smile he ever had in his life time. "and you're the cutest, most handsome pro hero i ever love."

for a second, he can't articulate a sentence as electricity is going hay wire in his body at your declaration of love. he only regain his composure when you nuzzle your head at his chest. he continue to hum the familiar song as you gently sway with his body.

under the moonlight, two lovers slow dancing with the beat of their hearts synchronizing with the slow hum of the pro hero. they say that people become fools when it comes to love. indeed, they are. the proof is right at the middle of the parking lot of mc donald's with two fools in love swaying to the rhythm of their hearts.

The classical and rhythmic way to knock on your door denounced Sigurd was on the other side before you could open.

Your melodic friend would always find a way to create rhythm on everything - even your door. But that day, in special, it wasn't able to make you smile as usual. Instead, you opened the door with your eyes swollen of the intense crying and the lost night, instantly changing the smile on Sigurd's face to a worried face.

"Oh, my gods, Y/N, what happened?" he asked, already coming in without being invited - he knew he didn't need an invitation! - leaving his bags - probably treats for the two of you - at the couch and coming back to hold you tight against his chest. "Why are you crying, love? What happened? Tell me..."

You weren't really crying anymore. But the comfort of his arms brought the tears back to your eyes and you sobbed, embracing him tightly.

"He's gone, Sigs... Y/B/N¹ is gone"

For a second, Sigurd felt his spine icy cold. He knew Y/B/N was talking about enlisting to the military in the last months and for a moment, his heart stopped into his chest.

"Y/N..." he started.

But you continued talking, causing him to feel slowly relieved.

"He was called to that stupid boot camp! He's gone and won't be back in thirteen weeks! Thirteen damn weeks, Sigurd! That's not fair!" you cried.

Even then, Sigurd sighed relieved. It was a boot camp. He was alright. Yet, you felt your friend's arms around you tight and Sigurd held you against his chest.

"Shh... shh. Don't worry, love. He's strong and dedicated. I'm sure he'll be fine. And about the time, here I am to make it run like the wind! Uh?" he caressed your face. "I brought chocolates and treats enough to have you at least four pounds fatter for him when he comes back! Come on... smile at me!" he declared, touching your lips. "If not at me, then, smile at these little beauties!"

His hand slipped into his bag and he took a 90% dark chocolate from your favorite brand.

You smiled at him, a tiny little small smile that got a huge one in his face.

"Just like that, love," he said, giving you the chocolate. "It's a good start."

"Why is he exchanging us for this stupid thing?" you asked, knowing your ask wasn't a real doubt.  

You knew Y/B/N wasn't "exchanging you" for that shitty camp. It was one of his dreams to become a military, to make a career. And it was exactly what your friend said - Sigurd knew how much Y/B/N loved you, and he was always the stronger supporter of the two of you.

"He's not exchanging you, babe. I'm sure it's hard for him to be there without you just as it is for you to be here without him. Even more, if you put on the table the fact that you have me, our movies, and the treats I brought for you, while he's probably trying desperately not to drop his soap..."

The joke came with some gestures that ended up causing you to giggle. It wasn't a good joke. But Sigurd had the talent to make you laugh.

"Stop it..."

"What?" he said, smiling at you. "Dozens of men at the same tent, trying to bath at the same time and do you really think anyone wants to drop that shit? Uh? And put your butt all up to pick up the bar on the ground?"

The thing wasn't funny. But Sigurd's face and the way he was narrating the story... You couldn't hold yourself from laughing.

"Dumbass..." you said, smiling at him and Sigurd softly caressed your chin.

"Your dumbass, babe. This is an exclusive service only my sweet Y/N has," he smiled winking at you. "Now... Movies, chocolates, and if you lend me your freezer, we'll have ice cream later! Everything to keep us happy, make us fatter, and kill Y/B/N in envy when he comes back to see the empty bags and pots we'll leave for him to see."

It was a lie.

You knew Sigurd was worried about his friend as much as you were. And probably the three of you would go out and have dinner together to celebrate Y/B/N's return as soon as he was back from that stupid camp.

You wanted your boyfriend with you and Sigurd wanted his friend back, but both of you knew it wasn't something Y/B/N could avoid.

"Hey, stop thinking this much," Sigurd said, smiling. "He'll rock on that camp. We know how good he is. And he'll be back to us soon, full of funny stories of dropped soaps to make us laugh and laugh with us. It's his dream, and he's persecuting it with all his strength. Despite our concerns and how much I wanted he was here to make you smile, I'm kinda proud of him."

"Me too," you said, sighing. "I just wanted him to be here."

"We all wanted, love. But he'll be back soon." Sigurd insisted, holding you softly.

"Thirteen weeks, Sigs..." you mourned.

"That will go sooner than you think. I promise," he answered, softly. "If you want, you can come to my place while he's away!" he suggested.

"Then I won't be able to pass through the door to pick him up in the airport when he comes back, Sigurd," you said, and Sigurd laughed.

"That's a fact," he said with a smile.

"Maybe some time out of this place won't be that bad..." you thought twice.

"A trip?" Sigurd said, looking at you, "My father's cabin will be empty these days. We can go there and spend some time with nature while he's not back."

"Seems nice," you sighed.

And Sigurd smiled.

"Then deal! We see our movies today; pack your things and I'll pack mine. Then we spend some time off-road for you to relax. You'll see: you'll be so busy trying to get rid of the giant mosquitoes of that place that you won't even see the days passing!"

You giggled again.

Probably you would be busy with Sigurd's jokes and silly games. But it would be good to have something to focus on and feel better until your babe was back.

One thing you were sure: Sigurd would do his best to make this time pass as fast as possible and to keep a smile on your face for as long as you had to wait.

He was the best friend you could ask.

That was a fact!

"Amuse me" Starco

“Alright, keep your eyes closed!” Marco announced, holding his blindfolded wife by the shoulders and guiding her closer to their destination. Star inched forward like a penguin, chewing on the inside of her lip. While she completely trusted Marco, she did not trust the brand new high-heeled boots her mother had bought that she had barely broken into.

“Almost there?” she asked cautiously. Her mind was far too fried from the endless demands of queendom to try and figure out what was going on, but her husband had assured her it was exactly what she needed right now.

“And…here!” With the grand flourish of a magician, Marco whipped off the blindfold and Star blinked to adjust her eyes. They were standing in the palace dojo she had constructed just for him, but now it looked remarkably cluttered. Several punching bags hung from the ceiling, inflated like furniture from a groovy decade long gone and speckled with confetti glitter.

“Wh–what is this?” Star glanced around at the bags scattered about the room, completely bewildered.

“For the next–” He quickly glanced at his phone “–half hour until your next meeting, this room is yours.” He gestured with a smile, “Go on, Queen Star. Have at it.”

For a moment, she didn’t move. This was insane. She was an adult – a queen. Dressed in a huge skirt with ruffles and a corset for her multiple public appearances, her tiara woven into her lavish updo. Her days of aggressively roughing it out like this were over. She had an image to maintain, no matter what she was feeling inside.

A moment. That was all she needed to think it over.

“Hiya!” Her fist came from seemingly out of nowhere and collided with the nearest punching bag. Exploding into flecks of sparkling pink, Star took a step back when a smoking image swirled into a very familiar face. A ghostly hot pink image of Pony Head stared back at her, giving her a wink.

“Hey girl hey!” the phantom Pony Head crowed, tossing back her mane. “Don’t you let them old creeps get to you, mmkay? You go show ‘em who’s the boss!”

“Wha?!” Star laughed as her bestie’s head disappeared. 

“Here’s another one!” Marco swung a second bag into view and Star leaped into the air, puncturing it with the heel of her boot in a high-flying kick. Green confetti mingled with the pink, another swirling of smoke taking the shape of Janna’s head.

“Heard you were feeling overwhelmed by all that royalty stuff. Want me to kill someone for ya? Just kidding. Kinda. Take it easy, Star, and make Marco do some of the work for once.”

“Marco, seriously, what is this?” his wife asked, pressing her hands to her chest, clearly touched. 

“A surprise for you – in which I obviously should’ve looked over the messages first,” Marco grumbled as Janna’s smirk vanished. Star, however, was staring at him with her blue eyes gleaming, like he was the sun, moon and stars all rolled into one. She had tried so hard to hide how upset she was at all of her decisions being overturned, and how half of the ambassadors were not taking her seriously. Three nights ago, she had scribbled furiously in her diary that she hated being queen and wanted to quit. After she got that out of her system, she thought things would get better.

But Marco had noticed. He noticed everything. As well as he could sense a head cold coming a mile away, he could sense when his strong independent queen needed to be taken care of.

“Marco…”

“Go, you pick the next one.”

Balling her fists once more, Star selected the bag in the far left corner. This one burst into red confetti, and Marco nodded approvingly.

“Ah yes, a punchable face indeed.”

“Marco!” she hissed, playfully nudging him in the ribs, watching Tom Lucitor materialize before her.

“Hey, Star. You know I get how frustrating this royalty thing can be. But you know the Lucitors are always in your corner, and I’m always a phone call away. Maybe it’s time for another Butterfly/Lucitor barbecue, and I’ll be the grill. Again. Anyways, let me know if you need anything. Keep doing you.”

“I don’t know what to say, this is so sweet!” Star gushed, her voice beginning to warble with emotion. “How did you put this together?”

“I had a little help from some of the magically-inclined contributors to the cause: The Show Star Butterfly How Much She’s Loved And Appreciated Cause.”

“I know I am – but it’s really really nice to be reminded.” She squeezed his hand before turning to the overlarge bag in the center. “Alright, this one looks like a doozy!”

“Go for it! Pretend it’s your Aunt Etheria!”

“Gahhhhhh!” Star roared, pummeling the bag covered in blue glitter, sending the mess everywhere. Two figures floated out of this one, and it didn’t take Star long to guess who it was going to be.

“Hello darling.”

“Star, my little soldier! We heard you were feeling rather blue.”

“And we figured the best way to help you was–”

“Invite you on a trip to slay the savage Timber Bear!”

“Um, no River.”

“But dearest, she needs to vent her anger.”

“She needs our love and support. She needs to know that we’ll be here to be her shoulder to cry on. Not running out and killing creatures in the forest.”

“Well of course, that’s a given. We love you, little Starlight.”

“And you’re the greatest gift that we, and Mewni, have ever received.”

“…Can she at least carry my crossbow?”

“River!”

“Yeah, definitely should have looked these over first,” Marco sighed, rubbing his temples irritably. Star, however, was doubled over with laughter, dashing tears from the corners of her eyes.

“They were never that great at consoling me, even as a kid. But they always showed me their love, in the only ways they knew how.” Now there was just one bag left, and the queen had pretty good idea of who was inside. So she steeled herself, taking several deep breaths to keep her composure, raised her fist, and the final bag exploded.

The vision of Marco smiled, then reached into his pocket and withdrew a rolled up sheet of parchment:

“The Duke of Waterfolk’s fly is always down. The Pixie Empress gets really cranky when she hasn’t had enough coffee. Lord and Lady Avarius like having meetings outside better, and the Lucitor general hates when you call him ‘buddy’. The elders…yeah, I’m still working on them, but I, uh, hope these help a little. It’s not just my job to make things a little easier for you to handle, Star, it’s my honor. I hope this made you laugh and maybe gave you some ideas on how to soothe the savage beast – I mean, our meetings with our allies.”

Star involuntarily reached up to stroke the face of the wispy Marco, her chest brimming with warmth as she chuckled up at his gentle half-smile. 

“You’re the best queen this kingdom has ever seen, and you know it, Star. You prove it every day. So the next time you get tongue-tied in court, just imagine all those wrinkly old men in their underwear. Wait no, ew, don’t do that–”

The message cut off before it finished, but it was worth it for Marco to hear Star’s infectious giggles – something he hadn’t heard very often since she assumed the throne. After months of watching the pressure build and build inside of her, doomed to overflow in a breakdown if he didn’t do something soon, all of those ridiculous messages and magical confections hadn’t gone to waste. Not at all.

“Alright, so it needed some serious editing, but–” Now the real Marco was cut off, two arms seizing him fiercely around his middle and fruity perfume wrapping him up to nearly hypnotize his senses.

“Thank you,” Star murmured into his chest, sounding utterly serious. “You have no idea how much I needed that. Thank you, Marco.”

“I love you,” he whispered back, his breath tickling the top of her head. “So much. Please don’t ever give up, Star, we need you. Every single one of us needs you.”

“I love you, too. And I won’t, I promise.” She held him tighter, glancing down to watch the glitter dance from the dojo lights above. She was a queen. And when it came down to it, she would do things her own way. Until then, she would always have this day to look back on and remember just how many people had her back.

“I really needed this today…”

I wish...

I wish I could have really enjoyed my single launch gig and not just focused on trying to get through it.

I wish I didn’t have to rest in bed for two weeks after performing for 45 minutes.

I wish I could follow my dream and put everything into it.

I wish I didn’t have M.E.

I know I sound like a right moany Mary, but it just sucks. So a few days before the gig I was feeling really rubbish, but had over 200 people on the guest list including industry, friends, family and fellow musicians, so by that time there was no real option but to power through and do it! Thank god for adrenaline!

I had to head into town for around 4pm for sound check, which went well, but that was basically singing the whole set through before the gig had even begun! Then I went to get my hair and makeup done (Thank you so much Harry and Katie!!) and by the time I got back to the venue it was 8pm, the support acts were on, and I was performing in an hour! AHHH!!! I tried to relax and do some vocal warm ups but I was so freakin’ nervous!!!

I had Nick filming me, who was making a lil’ behind the scenes video (now on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WnqT7RnoAM - Thanks Nick!!!) and I was also trying to be a good ‘host’ and talking to everyone backstage etc…. I should have had a nap or something really!!

Anyway, 9pm came and it was tiiiime!!!!

My god, nothing feels better than walking on stage to a packed out room of people who are there to support you- What an AMAZING crowd too!!! I can’t thank everyone enough who came down and it was SO lovely to see you all!!! I sang my 45 min set with my amazing band and everything went as well as it could have! There were a few times when I really had to stop between songs and have a little drink of water and BREATHE!!! -I was so out of breath and obviously found the whole thing exhausting but it felt like the audience really understood and had my back!

During the gig I did chat a LOT of rubbish but did try and explain my M.E. and what I was going through a little bit. There was a moment where I almost broke down into tears on stage but I pulled it together and probably made a bunch of inappropriate jokes. I shouldn’t be allowed a microphone!!!

I was selling merchandise there too- the money of which is going to the charity I am working with ‘Action for M.E.’ and was so happy at the amount of teeshirts, cd’s, and pens sold and people donated too! - If you would like to buy any just gimme a shout, I still have some left ;)

So the last song we performed was the new single ’24 Obsession’ and it was actually mental… people KNEW THE WORDS!!! I was so overwhelmed that I took one of my friends phones from the front row of the audience and filmed them as they sang along!! MIND BLOWN hahaha - there’s a first time for everything and that moment is something I will never forget!!

So two and a half weeks later and I am finally starting to leave the house again and be up and about a bit more! I don't know what's worse, being given a taste of what life could be like and it taken away from you every time, or just not tasting it at all…

To be honest I think it was all the preparation, admin and pressure that took it out of me so much as well as the gig itself! Putting on a gig completely by yourself takes a lot of work! Especially when you feel like shit!!

From booking support acts, to the band and band rehearsals, ordering merchandise with money you don’t have, and not knowing if you will sell any!! To booking the venue, photographer, hair and makeup, videographers, DJ, host, outfit, invites!!! And then actually getting people to sign up to the guest list and come to the gig!! Advertising the gig, learning the songs, releasing the single!!!!! It all adds up, and was really quite stressful! But I do want to thank EVERYONE involved as you all helped so much!! - Support acts killed it!! - Louise Golbey, Joshua KYEOT and Beat Fox - DJ and Host Nate James was amazing :) - my band were beyond unreal!!! - Manolo, Martin, Matt and Frankie <3 and I even had the amazing Jamie Nichols doing magic on the audience at the bar!! :) 

Hopefully one day I will be in a position where I can focus on the music and the performing, but I guess for now its still just lil’ old me tryna get my music heard!

So after the gig I met as many of the audience as I could and was so overwhelmed by the support <3 And then it was home time…. Via McDonald’s with one of my besties Grace!! YAAAASSSS!!! - my god that maccers was probably one of the best of my life!!

I went to bed at around 1am but didn’t fall asleep until around 7am!!! That’s classic Brian for ya!! He can be such an asshole!! (Brian aka my brain)

But then I slept most of the next day and the day after that too…

I knew I’d be knackered afterwards but I didn’t think it would last for two weeks. I shouldn’t complain because I did it and it could have all gone a lot worse but just things like, I had to cancel a video shoot I had planned and that’s now not until October!!! LOOOONG!! So I guess patience is the key here!!

Anyway I am feeling super positive the last few days!! I’ve been REALLY trying to do that Lightning Process thing I’ve written about before and have found it really helpful, and I bought a FitBit but a cheap brand that was like £15 ;) It’s called a ‘VeryFit’ which is so ironic LOOOL!! But I am genuinely loving looking at how many steps I’ve done at the end of each day and seeing the progress that I am making!!

I HAVE to find a way to keep this up!! Plan for now :

1. Don’t over do it

2. Don’t under do it (so even if I feel like death I HAVE to leave the house and go for a walk)

3. Be stupidly positive!! (I have even taken to fake laughing around the house… which then leads to real laughing.. my housemates think I am mental.. they are correct)

4. Eat healthily (well… within reason!!!)

5. Gradually increase my activity level

6. Not put so much pressure on myself

7. Take each day as it comes

Plan?? I think so!!!

So today I have written this!! WOOP! And am gonna start sorting through all the CRAP I have to Ebay!!!! I literally have boxes upon boxes of clothes to sell.. oh the effort! I definitely have some kind of hoarding problem!! But then man needs the moneys!!! Then I’ll walk to Nero’s and get a soy hot choc YASSSS and then have a lovely chilled eve with the loves of my life :) (my housemates - well… best friends!! who have been ridiculously supportive through this whole thing!!!)

So since in my previous post I touched on some of the bullshit my dad put us through, I’m going to reiterate some of our last ‘transactions’ before that bridge was burned - one of the many pivotal awakenings I needed to throw those rose colored glasses away. By then I had taken them off and started seeing shit differently but this moment was probably one of the few that prompted me to stop giving a fuck and call it quits for good.

By this point, dad and I are in a rough patch. I gave him an ultimatum about a year from now - right before thanksgiving - to stay off mom, she wasn’t in a position to be losing income for child support when custody was 50/50, etch. - and he’d rather lay into me about not knowing my place (despite me being a 22 YO independent adult) and gaslighting me about not knowing the full situation (bullshit). So we’re not on speaking terms.

I’ll let you know now - family or not, if you piss me, I’m done. I quit. There ain’t no tantrums. There aren’t conversations. After that last text and you ain’t wit the program, I’m duecing out. Peace sign, have good life, motherfucker, I’m out. Adios. Fuck off forever. I had my last straw and I stopped talking altogether. It was mutual. No one was lifting a finger to initiate any sort of discussion after that debacle. .

I ain’t the person who sends holiday or birthday texts. Nah. When I’m done, it’s cold turkey. I cut it off in an instant and I don’t look back. None of this “I’m always here” bullshit or “call me if you have a change of heart”. Nah, fam. Not even with my ex-bestie. She was all about that life after our blow out but I said what I said, I meant it, and I’m not turning back on my words just to re-engage an awkward & inevitably change friendship. That bridge was incinerated and same goes for my Dad.

Also - blocking - I’m all about that life. None of that ‘weak’ shit excuse. I don’t want to be hearing from you. I don’t want to be seeing shit from or about you. I don’t want you creeping on my shit either so your nosy ass can talk about something to your friends. Nah. We’s dead to each other. I blocked a hella ton of people because they nosy AF and messy and I’m not going to enable that shit. My profile is private, too, so they can’t hire their friends to peep for them either. Communication is low so mutual friends or family can’t be talking shit if I don’t have anything to say about the matter. I stay in my fucking lane, you bet your ass you ought to do the same. I ain’t gonna make it easy for you to weave in between the lines so don’t even bother.

I also learned that if people are a) bitching but b) not blocking - that door is still open for more bullshit. That girlfriend of yours talking shit about her on-and-off ex for a billion reasons but still refusing to block his ass? You bet they’re going to be back together by the end of the week. It’s inevitable. They ain’t ready to cut that cord.

My dad was one of those people. His (last I heard, ex) GF was a piece of work. So many stories were born from that messy relationship but he wasn’t dumb AF and continued to justify or make excuses as to why he wanted to work on it. At the end of the day, he made it known he valued her over his own kids, and that was that. He bankrupted himself to support her even though she already had income coming in three different ways and he used that excuse to make all these expectations that were never realized.

This is semi-important. All of this ties together.

When I cut contact, I cut all of it. No birthday text, no happy father’s day text, none of that. I was a making a point and it struck a nerve. He went through mom to tell me I needed to bounce TF off his phone plan (as if I wasn’t paying my portion?? which I learned was MORE than what I actually owed!!). Hmm. Ironic. I was asking him for months to cut me off his plan because he was the account owner and he had to give the approval but all he did was give BS excuses to wait or that I wasn’t financially ready to take on another burden (What?? I was meticulous about my budget and planned ahead for it! I realize now it was because I was paying for part of not just my plan but his, too - hmm). So suddenly now, I’m an ungrateful mooch and need to bounce ASAP.

Luckily I anticipated this but unfortunately had to wait for his go ahead. Because no matter how times I attempted to do it, they still needed certain information only he could give, and it was infuriating that I couldn’t do shit unless he went ahead from HIS account to release the line.

Now, let me input this: I love my phone. It’s old (4+ years) but it works, it functions, and it still in pretty condition because I forked out a shit ton of money for a grade A case that lived up to its reputation (otterbox FTW). So, the only thing I was (or should have been) paying for was just the plan and my ass was grandfathered in so I wasn’t paying for shit for unlimited. However, I was paying twice that amount until this moment. My upgrade was never used because I didn’t need one - it was only for an emergency just in case some shit happened to my phone. I didn’t ever want a new one because the one I had (and still do) does everything I need it to. (Shout out to Samsung!)

Dad, however, was the exact opposite. Constantly upgraded because he HAD to have the new iPhone after it’s release (same applies to my brother which he always catered to) and stealing everyone’s upgrades while still forking out money for the phone he just ditched.

So after days in finagling for the fucking information I needed to just finish the job, he finally makes me the account manager to just take care of it. First it was, oh I haven’t paid the bill yet so I still owe x amount before they make any account change (abet lowkey suggesting I take care of the $400+ invoice - TF I will! Hell no! I’m not the one to be tried today - fuck that noise!) Then it was - oh, well, uh, I couldn’t cover the total so wait until next week so I have the entire bill take care of...

Here’s what went down:

This man never, ever paid the bill in full. He had late fee after late free applied because he was cutting corners.

On top of that, he was constantly adding new devices  - like a new set of Dre Beat wireless headphones - hmm - while apparently not having enough to cover the bill. That’s some piss poor management right there.

Here’s the bonus:

I finally ask the rep to take me off. Wait, there’s a new charge. What? On my line? Repeat that, please??

This man used MY line, MY UPGRADE, while the account still under his name to buy a brand new $1100 iPhone - in payment plans no less! So either someone pays the difference (which is pretty much the whole thing) before I can ever transfer my line to an independent one or - at this point - my mind stopped listening because I was fuming.

Wanna guess where, or rather who, that phone went to? Take a guess - it’s pretty easy - if you thought, hmm, Dad, so did I - but no, it went to his pretty little neurotic piece of a GF. *I learned this later on from my brother who was lamenting about how she got the phone and not him (after his took a nasty fall & cracked the screen).

Folks, I don’t remember how TF I did without forking over money but I did - I got my ass off the plan within a week of the original message, kept my beloved phone (which he can pry from my cold, dead hands) and my number with a manageable plan.

Now, let me tell you, I did not block my dad. My number is still the same as always because it’s damn near connected to everything in my name. I couldn’t bother with a number change because too much inconvenience. I sent him an e-mail saying the deed was done (literally 5 words or less) and he never replied back - that was that.

Fast forward about.... rounded, a couple months. Karma is beautifully served and she kicks his ass to the curb after mooching off what she could without having to do the same. (He’s still a dick and probably did some shit to deserve the restraining order). He crawls back to my mom looking for pity. She reminds him said-ex-GF is not worth it and primarily one of the reasons why he’s estranged with his eldest (me!).

He has the audacity to say the following - oh, I was going to ask her eventually if she wanted to get coffee. (Haha! Hell no! As if I’d be anywhere in the same zip code as this man! I ain’t gonna be trapped listening to his woe-is-me bullshit. Fuck that!)

Mom shakes her head - she knows me well enough. That ain’t gonna fly. She’s not going to respond to that.

He probably scratched his head - what should I do? (*Uh, dumbass, I literally wrote you an e-mail with plain-as-day instructions. First step, apologize, second step, acknowledge your wrong doings, third step, make an vocal and actual effort to fix x amount of issues which I’ve bulleted! Look at your Goddamn archives!)

Mom literally says - show an effort.

He replies - okay... is her number the same??

Bruh. Bruuhh.

At this point, it’s just comedy. I can’t make this shit up.

I’ve never blocked this man. I never changed my number. If he asked, idk, my brother?? He’d confirm - yeah, it’s still the same.

Now under this context, which my mother forewarned me about, he sends me a BS text - oh, thinking about you, hoping you’re doing well, text me, love ya.

What bullshit. Mind you, had his (ex) GF not kicked him to the curb, he’d still be at her side, and I’d still be in exile - so no - not happening. You made your bed, lie in it. See - I look at the bigger picture - it helps with retrospect.

Mark to present: Mom is now on the train which she’s almost always finds her way back on - forgive and forget! He’s your father? Yadda-yadda - you know the naive shit that gets her into trouble because she forgives wayyy too easily the shit no one should put up with. (*I’m all about the resent-and-remember and boii has it served me good).

Mom - has your father texted you yet? He told me he tried again. (As per use, telling one thing, doing another - actions ain’t lining up, pops. Typical).

My inbox: void of any such message(s).

Me - Nope! (proceeds to monologue about his douchebaggery and my intolerance for such antics and how forgiveness is absolutely out of the question.)

Mother  - who is very passive - immediately weans off the topic. She’s the soft spoken but persistent type. (I’m the opposite. I’m the ‘cuss your ass out’ + end of fucking discussion type).

I see things for how they are and I’m ain’t about that bullshit. I know how things operate and I’m not playing the fool this time.

The BEST of THM 2017 + What’s Coming Up in 2018

It’s crazy to think that this is the last post of 2017! It’s been a wonderful year and a tumultuous year. It’s gone by at lightening speed and crawled by at times. It’s been deliciously sweet and scarily overwhelming. But all in all, it’s been another year for the record books!

1. The Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies (gluten-free!) – When it comes to cookies, 2017 was a good year but I have to say that these cookies come out on top! I was afraid to post them because I worried about how you’d react to the butter and sugar and all that but man are they healthy for the soul!

2. Roasted Brussel Sprouts and Farro Salad – C said this is his favorite recipe of the year and I have to say that I totally agree! We’ve been eating this non-stop for the last few months and it’s been my go-to for all events and potlucks. It’s really a crowd pleaser.

3. Things I’m Afraid To Tell You -I was so scared to share this post with you because I felt so awful for keeping so many secrets from you. In the end, I’m glad how it all played out and am happy I took the time to sort out my feelings before sharing such big news with you. Thank you for being so supportive!

4. Our Engagement Photos and Wedding Planning Update – I’m still in awe at the amazing pictures Bettina was able to capture in our home and hood. I feel so lucky to have such a dear friend who is also an insanely talented photographer. C and I love you B!

COMING UP IN 2018

Whew! That’s a lot of posts and content. Clearly it’s been a great year! At the same time, I’m also very excited to kick off 2018 and start exploring some new topics and jumping deep into some old ones. In terms of posts, you can still expect a lot of healthy recipes, green beauty/skincare and self-reflection posts. A few other topics I want to explore more in-depth are: mental health, work-life balance and stress-management. These are all topics we’ll be chatting more about on the podcast as well.

For video, I’m hoping to do more “vlog-style”content as well as providing more recipe videos for you. I have so many delicious recipes that I’d love to create more videos for to make them easier to understand and follow. In addition, I want to do more DIYs to show you guys how to make more household and body care products. I feel like I’ve gotten a bit lazy this year and deviated toward store-bought brands instead of making my own. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE all the products I share, but I know they aren’t always accessible to everybody so I want to make sure there’s options for everyone at all levels of accessibility and price points.

Beyond that, I’ll be slowly down the global travel (besides one exciting trip in January!) and spending more time in San Francisco, exploring our home. I find myself craving more local adventures and challenges and I’m excited to see what comes my way.

I’ll be taking a much needed vacation until the New Year. There won’t be any new posts, videos or podcasts until 2018 and while I know you guys certainly aren’t sitting around waiting for me, I just wanted to give you a heads up! I also hope that you can all find some time to take a break and enjoy time off with your loved ones. I know the holidays can be very busy and overwhelming at times so don’t forget to carve out a little R&R for yourself.

I’m so incredibly grateful to be able to call THM my job. It’s been an incredible 5 year adventure and I couldn’t ask for a better tribe to come along for the ride. I know I say this all the time, but I truly am so grateful for all of you.
