Using tumblr has taught me so much to value my thoughts for being my thoughts rather than for how relatable they are to others. I’ve never really been on any social media and tumblr is the only platform i actively use to post/interact with content. but when i first joined, it felt like a ghost town. following generic tags like ‘writers’, ‘science’ and ‘art’ got my dash nowhere. i was extremely discouraged. i dint know how to tag and that was the only way for anyone to ever see your post. the lack of algorithm was baffling. what is social media if i wasn’t getting any interaction or followers? what’s more, there wasn’t even any acknowledgement that i was present on this website. if i’d make a post, it’d feel like shouting from the top of a cliff in antarctica.

I dint have any special interests i was looking to interact about so that was bleak. i was only here cause more aspecs than i’d ever seen anywhere were here (because it’s what i did during my online classes amid the pandemic: scroll thru the aroace and aromantic tag) and i wanted to say things too. and god did this website make it difficult for me. but i hung on cause what am i if not patient. and slowly i started gaining a couple notes. even slower than that, a couple followers. it used to feel like such an accomplishment, when i finally got 10 followers and then 20. but then, i got to experience the mysterious ways of tumblr and i slowly but surely stopped caring. my tumblr experience has quite literally revolutionized my attitude towards the whole of social media. i post stuff chaotically with no organization or restraint when i feel like i want to say something and don’t care a single bit afterwards. doomscrolling is kept at bay cause there’s only so much new content that comes up on the daily on my dash. so once i read the 5 new posts that’ve been made in the past hour, i have to begrudginly throw my phone away (read: i go to youtube instead🤮) but even then. Cause i get to pick what i want, every post i see is the most insightful life changing thing ever. I read through it all to the end and close the app feeling a lot more hopeful about life than i previously did. And i have tags for shows and hobbies i follow now!!!! Which makes the whole thing so much more sweeter.

Also pretty much no one i know irl uses tumblr. What a fabulous bonus. I get to live in a different world on here. A world filled with compassion, caring and understanding. A world of so many people that are incredibly kind even when they are all struggling. A world full of silliness, wierdness and queerness. Being here with you all makes my life so much better and my vision so much clearer. I love it here :)
