dreaming and IRL worldbuilding
I’ve been doing some talking about getting into radicalism and how to organize. You can do that first—you have a feeling that things need to change and you just act. At some point though, I think it’s important to start thinking from a longer-term perspective. That's where visioning comes in.
To know how to change the world, we should know what we want it to look like. Solarpunk is a great example of this—giving us aspirational visuals and vistas for how the world could look if we got our shit together. This is what a vision is in a nutshell.
Once we have have an understanding of what we want the world to look like, we have to figure out how to get there. This is where things start to become interesting. To me, values are like guiding principles that we ground our actions in. To come up with values, think about the ethics and principles that are embedded in your vision. If we think about solarpunk, some values that I see are ecological harmony, intersectional feminism, and economic democracy.
When we have our vision and values in place, we can think about the specific things that we want to accomplish. Our goals should be relatively concrete things that we can build strategies around. What are the material changes that you want to happen? What are the specific, tangible things that you can work towards? If it’s too broad (ex: “I want to abolish the commodity form”), then that might be one of the descriptors of your vision.
So, you create a vision → which informs your values → and dictates your goals.
To develop a vision, put on your dreaming goggles. Imagine what the world can look like. Try to engage your senses. What do you see? What do you hear? What does it smell like?
To develop your values, look at that vision, analyze the implied material and social contexts and use those as guiding lights.
To develop your goals, think about the specific things you can work towards, acting within your values, to create fertile ground for your vision to flourish.

i need to yap about my phighting oc rn and my gf is asleep so im doing it here.
based off the orinthian electroslasher gear Electro S. was a blackrockian researcher focused on researching cleaner energy (i hc blackrock as using coal power a lot). she originally pitched solar power + lightning rods to a higher up in blackrock, but was shot down because it would "cost too much" to completely swap the coal power to solar. she attempted to prove it'd be cheaper to use solar multiple times across the next few years before finally realising blackrock simply does not care.
so she just left for playground, slicing or shocking any opposition to her leave (although it wasn't as difficult for her to leave as it was for medkit bc she wasn't very high up in blackrock like he was and she can fight better than him); eventually meeting her (future) wife (to be created im focusing on electro rn) who was a playgrounder, and helped her to get to playground.
electro realised just how little infrastructure was there (hc playgrounds government as being absent) so she created a couple of small structures with solar panels providing shade and electricity to anyone there. she met boombox while chilling at one of them charging herself (can't use her shocking abilities without any charge 4 herself :p) and they became friends.
like 4ish years after moving to playground (she married her wife during this time) electro's wife became a target for lost temple and scythe was after her and did kill her but electro wounded scythe heavily in response to her wife suddenly dying next to her (she got scythe ulted :(|)
also her appearance!! she wears jackets all the time and usually not much under. she also usually just has comfy pants on. her tail is a plug (how she charges herself) and her horns r lightning bolt shaped!! she wears shades similar to young bazooka's

DP2 - Wandering Earth
Week 19:
This week I kept focusing on the workshop by first improving on the plan and then choosing three zones from the plan and designed the roof, facade and structural systems specifically to the environmental conditions required by each zone:
The south facing facade receives the highest level of solar radiation and activities including cutting and drilling take place in this zone, which can lead to overheating in the space, especially at summer. Therefore a layered strategy is implemented on the facade with dense and wide rain-fuel/solar panels acting also as shading devices which can result in effective cooling off the space.
The East Facing Facade provides excellent natural light in the morning and has a good view down the hill towards the city, therefore there are voids on the facades to provide opportunities for a balcony area. The facade panels are more curled up to further provide natural lighting and views as there are workbenches behind the east facade.
The North Facade in 2050 will encounter more severed environmental conditions as it receives poor natural light and is normally cold and damp. Therefore the facade panels are less dense to allow more light entering the space and more gaps on the roof to provide lighting. Deicing systems inspired by the aviation industry extends out from the roof to clean the icing that may form on the facade.
The Roof has different levels and grooves to direct the rainwater to drip down onto the facade elements and utilises its potential energy to regenerate energy; but also recycled into the bathroom to be reused. The roof has a curved shape that rises at certain points for lighting purposes.
I should keep working on these three design modules and use line drawings in combination with these renders to reveal the HVAC, structural and water systems of the space. Doing lighting and heating simulations on the interior space to prove the systems function properly

Published: 7-14-2023 | Updated: 9-22-2023 My current hood is set in a desert landscape, a 24th century SimCity dotted with arcologies and other architectural marvels (if I can finish the builds!) - like this eco-house from Cliff Empire (Lion’s Shade, 2018):

The structure is tall and straightforward but getting some parts of the exterior frame in place will be a little tricky.

An Ultimate (But Not Definitive) Guide to Maximizing Comfort When Camping

First things first – to me, "Glamping" is when you pay to camp at a prebuilt campsite or one that is set up for you. Yes, I know – I'm splitting hairs, but I'm very proud of the camping experience I've curated.
Secondly, if you're looking for another backpacking, minimalist camping guide, this is not it. I'm a comfort maximalist and proud of it.
And a disclaimer: links are affiliate links, and if you make a purchase, it'll send some monies my way.

To help you contextualize the massive information dump you are about to receive, here is a pretty standard layout of our campsite.

Our base camp structures include your tent, shade structures, and your vehicle.
TENT:
The tent we use the most is a Coleman 8-person camping tent in the style of a "cabin" with a built-in closet (link), and we have considered upgrading to the newer version (link), but haven't yet. Note, this tent is not ideal for Burning Man – for the Burn, we use two instant weatherproof Coleman tents (link) with rainflies (link). The smaller tent is also the tent I'd use if I were camping alone.
SHADE STRUCTURES:
We have one 10x10 Coleman instant Canopy (link) with two sun walls (link) and one 13x13 Coleman Pop-Up Canopy (link).
OTHER INFRASTRUCTURE:
The stakes provided with your tent and easy-ups are very flimsy. I highly recommend getting 10-inch nails (link) with washers (link) for staking everything down. We got ours at Home Depot, along with a mallet (link) to hammer them into the ground.

TOOLS:
You can never have enough tarps. You want at least two heavy-duty 10x10 tarps (outside) and one 10x10 medium-duty tarp (inside the tent). We keep a plastic bin with quite a few tarps and always keep extras on hand. In addition to the mallet, you'll want to keep the following tools on hand:
Scissors
Multi-tool (link)
Camping multi-tool (or small hatchet)
Silicone cable ties (link) – they're reusable and have solved so many problems
Duct tape
Spring clamps
Carabiners
Work Gloves
Long handle lighter – seriously, don't fuck yourself with just a regular cigarette lighter.
LIVING ROOM:
Our living room boasts a two-seater (link) and three-seater (link) quick collapsible Kelty camping couches and an easy-to-pack-up coffee table. I cannot express how much this coffee table (link) improved our camping experience. When camping, you are always, and I mean always, looking for a usable surface.
We have an array of lighting from string lights, cable lights, personal carry lights, and this rechargeable work light (link) – this work light is a crowd favorite since you can point the panels up at the easy-up, illuminating the whole camping setup.

KITCHEN:
My favorite time of day when camping is early morning before the rest of the group is up – I start by making myself a fresh cup of coffee and preparing to make breakfast. Our kitchen setup is what our friends look forward to most when we organize camping trips.
There are so many options for a portable refrigerator, and we started with an entry-level one from Setpower (link) and an ECOFLOW portable power station (link). For extended camping trips, I recommend getting solar panels to charge it up during the day if you're going to keep a fridge running – especially in hot heat. Thankfully, electricity management is handled by my partner; this is an area that he is very precise about.

There isn't much need to write a verbose story to go along with the rest of our cooking gear, so without much fuss –

Electric water spout (link) – it doesn't fit directly; we haven't found a reasonably priced one that fits, but you can DIY it with the provided water spout from the water containers -- we use tape.
Utensil sets (link) – It, unfortunately, comes with the travel boxes for each set. I put all of the sets in the cookware storage zip pouch and used these for various other projects.

INSIDE THE TENT:
On top of the tarp, we put an 8x10 living room rug as the next layer. This incredible layer completely changes the experience inside the tent, making it incredibly homey and comfortable even on rocky terrain.
Since the two-person cots have an annoying metal bar down the center, we push two Coleman cots (link) next to each other. For bedding, the first layer is two two-inch foam cushions, a queen-sized flat sheet, and our desired number of blankets and pillows.
We store most of our tools, camping lights (headlamps, flashlights, etc.), sunscreen, bug spray, wet wipes, & other miscellaneous items we need quick access to in an organizer box (link).
And one of the more silly comfort improvements that has been great for hanging coats, hats, headlamps, and keeping things off the floor – a coat rack (link).

NEXT-LEVEL COMFORT:
Electric shower head (link) – our friends laughed hard when I pulled this out of my box of tricks, but they certainly enjoyed using it. Pro-tip, save water and use the smaller attachment.
For winter, get a Buddy Heater (link) – they are safe to use inside the tent and have a tip-over safety feature.
Battery powered fans
House shoes – this should be self-explanatory, but being able to slip them on and move around the camp is just *chef's kiss*.
If I were a solo camper, I'd still have a lot of the same gear, but with a smaller tent. I'd make do with one shade structure and one couch, along with the coffee table. There’s was a rocky outcrop in the backyard where water naturally collected into a pond. Mike has since bricked in the pond, added a bathtub for an outdoor pool for the kids and then found a bathroom basin which he turned into a bird bath.
Wicking Beds:
Mike has made wicking beds from second hand bulk containers. One is used as a liquid fertiliser brewer and the other four have been chopped in half to make 8 wicking beds. The sides of the wicking beds are protected from the sun with recycled zinc aluminium panels take from a roof. The wicking beds are placed in an ‘exclusion zone’, that has been covered with netting to prevent fruit fly, possums and rats making off with the produce.
