Picked up two prints! (And a sticker!)
Just so you know, I would legit pay for, like, a collection of your prints in a size somewhere between the mini and 11x14.
Like, I just want to put a *bunch* of them in a binder and just look at it sometimes lol
thank you so so much!!!! ;A; I have considered other sizes, but I live in a tiny place and my printing room is already full of too many sizes of paper/mailers/tubes/etc for what I do offer. I will keep it in mind but the sizes I have now are probably going to be pretty set for now.
About to go off on a tangent, so apologies for hijacking your sweet ask.
honestly this is still so crazy to me, thank you. I have been illustrating for years and years now, but really only found proper footing this year after taking a huge break from commissions and just hammering in what I really want to do with my life.
I've always preferred rendered painting but I felt like the market was so saturated and that I'd never be able to make a living doing it. Many of my older followers will know that for a couple of years I was really on this digital watercolor kick, doing more stylized work. It was extremely grueling despite being faster, bc I forced myself to work entirely on 1 layer with no eraser. It was faster for me to do and felt more "lucrative" as far as timeliness, but I was not very happy doing it, and did a lot of rendered painting studies in my free time, it was basically my "fun time" where I was doing one style for work and a totally different one for private pieces. Literally, I would be painting realistic block of cheese as my downtime.
I was so convinced that stylized stuff was what people wanted, and I have had boxes and boxes of prints I've bought and thrown away because they didn't sell.
Now that I am doing the kind of art my heart wants to do, I am so much happier and completely overwhelmed by how there are actually people who want to art I make for myself on their walls.
This is probably coming off so random but I've been thinking about it a lot, it really is true that you HAVE to paint what makes you happy. If you try to box yourself in to what seems the more "marketable" I promise you are going to be miserable. (Never stop challenging yourself, though. seriously.)
I have never been happier about the art I have created in the last 6 or so years of doing this professionally than I am now that I just said "fuck it, I am tired of painting anime-ish stylized stuff because that's what's in." It's like I've been forcing myself to jam a square block into a circle shaped hole for years. Not to mention that doing line art on literally over a thousand pieces (yes, I've counted, absolutely insane; comic artists please take care of yourselves) for years has well and truly fucked my hand up permanently, I fear.
Other artists, please listen to that little creature in your brain that's telling you it doesn't like painting anime girls or cats or thick chunky line art because that's what you think is popular. If painting nothing but hyperrealistic swords is where you heart is happiest, just do it and stop forcing yourself because I promise there are thousands of people out there who want to see your swords. Just make sure to throw in some jewels or filigree or whatever every once in a while to keep yourself challenged.
Sorry again for hijacking your message, I just am regularly blown away that somehow people actually like my art now that I like it. (Not that my older pieces are regrets btw, I think every single thing you paint no matter the style is worth its figurative weight in gold)

Thanks earlier for your advice on drawing Elfilis! If it’s ok to ask this next, what’s a good way to experiment with brushes for an art style? And may I ask how you draw the outline things you do? They’re really cute :)
Long post that got a little rambly. 😅
When I experiment with brushes, I'll generally open up the "all" tab for them and start picking out ones that look interesting. Just start scribbling things on the page!
Generally, when I'm looking through brushes, I have an effect I want to achieve in mind. For example, if I want to make a soft looking sky, I'll check out whatever blending brushes and airbrush type-things I have in stock.
Also, if you haven't already, you can go online and look for brush packs to add to your program. Download whatever looks neat, if you don't end up using it it's no big deal!
Don't be afraid to use brushes in ways they weren't intended for. Right now, my favorite brushes for line art are ones that seem meant for color blocking. (I'm using GDQuest's "Pixel Grunge" and Krita's default "Charcoal Rock Soft".) I like slightly fuzzy, gritty-ish line art, so these work well for that.
You can also try making your own brushes, either from scratch or by playing with existing ones from the program. Last summer, I made a brush out of a normal watercolor brush and a Paint 3D render of Elfilin. Here's something I drew with that. Please, don't be afraid to get silly with brushes!
In addition to experimenting with brushes, I love to play with filters, especially to make backgrounds more interesting. If you use Krita, you can go to Filters > Start G'MIC-Qt to play with a big list of powerful, fun ones. (I also reccomend playing some with Filters > Artistic > Halftone).
In regards to line art, I generally use the two previously mentioned brushes (GDQuest's "Pixel Grunge" and Krita's default "Charcoal Rock Soft" both scaled really small) to get a grungy, textured look. Like most people (I think?) I do my line art over a sketch layer which I've made semi-transparent.
I leave little gaps in my line art, which I've heard can contribute to an "illustrated" feel? Anyways, I color in between the gaps as if there was a continuous line there. (I do my colors on a layer below the lines, which I also think is common practice) Sometimes I'll tint my line dark brown or dark blue to add to the color palette of a drawing. It's also fun to set your lines to "alpha lock" and play with colored line art or airbrushing a gradient onto it.
The most important thing about your art style, though, is that YOU enjoy drawing in it! If drawing things a certain way is too hard or stresses you out, you're always allowed to draw it a different way. You're also always allowed to "cheat". I totally have templates made for things I know will be a pain to do (eg. Sectonia's wings) so that I can trace them when I need to draw them in a piece.
Good luck with your art! Have fun!

100 Palettes Challenge // Palette #7 // Peony
Today's palette comes from a fashion illustration in The Delineator magazine from 1906.
Tumblr media
Like I mentioned in the previous piece, this is one of the palettes I was really looking forward to — I love a pastel rainbow. It's also the one I was thinking of specifically when I made the decision to go through them in order because I knew I'd use up all the palettes I really liked first and end up with a bunch that I really don't. Of course this one is early on in the book anyway! But honestly one of my least favorite palettes was also an early one.
I got the inspiration for this after watching an art asmr channel use inksticks to paint some watercolor flowers (sometimes the asmr videos are the only things that help our toddler get down for a nap, though usually they're more into the restoration videos). Not that I even tried to attempt doing anything watercolor-ish, but we have this beautiful peony plant by our porch (we actually have two, but one of them hasn't flowered for the past two years, sadly) and these colors are really just perfect for it.
I didn't get as much depth as I wanted to, but honestly I got overwhelmed VERY quickly. Like peonies in general have very densely packed, curly petals, it's one of the reasons they're such a popular flower. But this variety really does just look like a curly koosh ball set on top of a plate of petals.
Tumblr media
Also yes, I turned the photo upside-down for a nicer composition, and yes there's not that much pink. But there is a pink tinge, particularly at the top, and also ~Artistic License~.

so heres my basics of a kid loki animated marvel treatment
first off: pg-13 minimum. this is more towards the ultimate avengers/hulk vs. movies than like, thor: tales of asgard. also: NARRATED. narrated in old-ish poem-ish writing the way everything is in the comics.
second off: to make sure everyone knows that this is separate from the mcu, we start with classiclokis death. in order for us not to get bogged down in comic book details, we're making up loki dying when surtur tried to invade asgard. that didnt happen in the comics, but we really dont have the time to get into all of that (im trying to adapt journey into mystery 622 -- 645 in one movie)
before the funeral is where we put in the introductory seven magpies bit, up to ikol exploding in the library. this part is more watercolor-y than the rest, and we get a flash of green in the seventh magpie's eye for foreshadowing. then we flash back to:
funeral scene for loki: hes so fucking dead. his body is burning. hes dying so much. thor is like the only one even a little sad about this, including thor.
next: thor is doing what he always does when hes depressed: wandering around midgard being a hazard to air tower control. he sees a kid doing 3-card monte or something in paris who looks like loki, we get the classic eyes narrowed + shadow zoom "loki?" shot. THUNDERSTORM. tourists clear out, kid is cleaning up when thor goes in about one quarter cocked as usual.
chase scene just to make sure everyones awake + its always fun when lokis in a chase scene
the same 'luc is actually loki' reveal as we get in the comics, but now its after a chase scene so its more fun. also, thor explains that loki was killed by surtur somehow. very important.
to be clear: loki doesnt have his magic in this movie, its the same as the comics. he can try but nothing doing.
thor takes loki back to asgard [i choose to have kid loki with his hair down in this movie because its cuter. he can have his stupid condom hood on sometimes but not here] and we get an introductory shot of thor walking with loki through asgard, some comments 'oh wow i really am in the future' from loki
at the palace thor sticks loki in the library while he [thor] goes to talk to odin about the uh suddenly alive again stopped-being-evil-for-one-second-to-save-his-brother loki. which im sure frigga is fine with. note that im replacing odin with frigga/the allmothers in this movie because explaining odins death takes away from lokis lokiness.
WHILE LOKI IS IN THE LIBRARY, IKOL RETURNS. MONTAGE: loki wandering around, solving riddles while getting suspicious looks from everyone for his loki-ness. thor trying to convince people to be cool with loki. this is mostly interrupted by loki causing trouble. im picturing this + previous part as some light comedy sections/relationship building bits in comparison to how dark most of the kid loki storyline is.
finally: 'this is a place hidden in a whim beneath a daydream'. loki back at the library dropping into the question mark, thor back talking to frigga. we cut between the two as kid loki talks to old loki and thor talks to the allmothers, trying to convince them that loki is like, cool. finish with loki smugly sealing ikol and thor yelling at the allmother about saving his brother.
see the thing about the ENTIRE kid loki arc is that like. so much of it i cant just get rid of or condense very much? like JiM 2011 is schemes on schemes on schemes its so good and it all builds on top of each other. so what im getting rid of is the new mutants sidequest, most of the helwolf, almost all of the serpent/fear lords, and anything post 'i am the crime that will not be forgiven'. ill probably cut out most of the mephisto vs hel arc, since we have surtur going on instead--we'll say loki stole his sword's shadow earlier. and since we dont have the serpent arc, we dont need two leahs either. im thinking most of the montage will be foreshadowing of loki's schemes, considering whats getting cut out in the actual writing
so loki comes out of the library about to introduce ikol to thor, but thor's been locked up for being a little bitch to the allmother. this is where we get loki's 'thor, if you had to do something bad to prevent something worse, would you?' question. volstagg drags loki off to set him to work
(im picturing loki having caused volstagg trouble at least twice in the montage, so here we get a rule of three subversion instead, with volstagg doing the story of toothgrinder and toothgnasher and then 'despite all the ills your other self has caused, i have my own brood of children. unfortunately, im fond of all of you disgusting brats, no matter what mistakes you make' (< not verbatim))
next we get a much shorter montage of 1 loki spying and 2 loki talking to his bird. again, more montageshadowing
loki spying on the allmothers, hears that there is trouble in hel between surtur and hela (i knowww they arent the same place but surtur is basically surphisto in this treatment). frigga says 'no no, lets stay here' but we get the implication that she knew loki was listening and sneaking out
loki breaks the helwolf with the magic bridle, and we make his breaking into hel relatively quick so that he can meet leah and start making friends with her.
some leah+loki bonding with them fighting demons and sniping at each other. loki brings up the bffs thing and we get another comedy moment with his starkphone. he attempts to show her cocomelon (i know they cant do it but i want to see it). they investigate the surtur thing a little bit but theyre both, like, 12. (loki has his condom hood here so leah can make fun of him).
loki goes back to asgard to report the Big News but frigga yells at him for 'bringing an element of hel into Asgard Itself'. they both get in trouble, hela will arrive within a few days to get her handmaiden back.
things keep going wrong-er in asgard even while loki is grounded. shaking water, smell of sulfur, all stuff that generally bodes the opposite of well. but loki isnt there so it cant be his fault.
finally surtur bursts into asgard to Rain Terror And Ragnarok down on everyone. but they cant all die because something something prophecy. another action scene: we see the asgardians fighting various summoned demons, evacuating people, etc. possibly have a subplot about surtur stealing the bodies of asgardians so we can have some excitement up in this bitch. durin the action scene: leah actually fights with daggers while loki is sneaking around getting made fun of or told to get out of the way. they are losing the fight. the first big turn is him releasing thor from prison to help fight. this is when they land the first major blow on surtur.
more loki sneaking around. this is where we see some of the foreshadowing in the montages pay off. all very rube goldberg-y because, again, no magic! however while his contraptions are going off there are some that work for no perceivable reason. like some are going off because we saw him set them off, and then we see a new one that is equally silly but was not planned.
here things split again: loki goes back into the library because things are looking bad: loki says hes looking for answers, but hes really looking for ikol (due to aforementioned unpredicted rube goldbergs)
while loki falls into his book, hela arrives. the tide is now firmly on the side of the asgardians as hela proves herself once again to be one of the least objectionable mothers in asgard (not a huge competition in terms of comics canon). and since leah is her handmaiden, hela has an amputation at the wrist in this movie.
we focus mostly on the action scene with the next few minutes, with only occasional flashes of the lokis' conversation to explain what theyre talking about (how the plan was always for adult loki to take kid loki's body, but we only get one sentence from either at a time). while the asgardians have surtur on the ropes, we get the classic gloat about how neither surtur nor the asgardians can ever truly win because blah blah blah prophecy. meanwhile, adult loki is explaining why the shadow of surtur's sword has to be used, but kid loki doesnt know how to, ha-ha-ha gotcha. kid loki gets depressed, adult lokigets sarcastic and offers a compromise (kid loki does the killing with the shadow, but adult loki gets control of his hands; after that, kid loki can have three conversations before adult loki takes his body)
kid loki agrees, comes back to strike the last blow.
i want to adapt most of the conversations as they go in the comic--so kid loki & classic loki's 'i wanted me to change. not you.', final blow on surtur, everybody laughs and applauds loki, THEN loki's monologue realization with leah, has hela send her away/back in time, then running around the ruins of asgard, people call out to him actually being friendly for once without loki ever replying (3 conversations) THEN loki's 'thor if i ever go bad will you promise to kill me' conversation in the garden. now since i got rid of a lot of the afterlife drama im getting rid of brún's conversation with loki. unfortunately i do like loki refusing to speak to leah at the end so im keeping that there, and im replacing that conversation with a conversation with frigga/allmother, one part 'perhaps we could find a place for you' one part 'oh this lady loves manipulating her adoptive son'.
return to the world inside the book. this we adapt almost word for word, but we add 'i am the crime that will not be forgiven' as the last line (so damn me -> damn you all -> [beat] -> i am the crime that will not be forgiven. and we keep the loki-eating-ikol thing.
green fire burns the screen black. beat. FLASH OF BRIGHT GREEN EYES ONSCREEN. DISTORTED LAUGHTER. credits.
POST CREDITS SCENE: AoA!loki ducking down from the top of the screen, hair dangling. he waves, winks, does a little magic of the asgard skyling blowing ot dust. cut to black. loud sound of a twink falling. END MOVIE.
remember that this is just a treatment that i typed up while rewatching the original thor movie on some weird russian porn site. and i do legitimately believe that the kid loki writing is some of the strongest in modern comics and while i would LOVE to do like, a 12 episode season of an animated show to better adapt all the schemes (not to mention the britannia arc which was just, SO good) i really do legitimately miss the old animated features that marvel did back in the late aughts/early 10s. hence movie.
while im making my wishlist:
i want the backgrounds to be watercolor, but with 2d animation. BUT. during the magpie scene, i want the animation also to be watercolor, and for the scenes in the book, i think paint-on-glass would be SO cool. when loki is falling into the book, i want it to be cell animated from a very basic sketch of a human body up--like, first few frames all you see is the stick legs, rectangle feet, circle joints, trapezoid body, and the details get built up until hes an actual human at the end.
this all being said im not actually SUPER opposed to it being cgi. i just like 2d animation better (it is the nostalgia)
i dont know how feasible this is but i think itd be so cool if the lokis shared a voice actor along with leah and hela.
i want the shadow of surtur's sword to be like, animated as just being the erasure of whatever frame its on instead of being an actual shape
also i want old loki to be the same uncanny valley cgi from the blood brothers series
and i mean obviously theyll never give me the budget to make this (for no good reason even though im so good at writing animated adaptions of comic arcs) but i think they should because im pretty. and i think they should pay me one million dollars for this.

hey everyone! my name is ava.
I've always wanted to be "good enough" to post my junk on a Tumblr blog since I was 15. well im 22 now and suddenly realizing that there will NEVER be a time where someone transcends from the clouds and magically tells me, "you're ready now."
so I decided to bite the bullet and make an art blog!!! pls let me know if you enjoy what I post or want to see more/less of certain things (I will try my best <3 ). I am no professional nor have I gone to college for this or anything. I just like making fun stuff that makes me happy and fulfills the creative urge.
my favorite things to draw and paint are generally:
- mass effect characters / scenery (def going thru the legendary edition brainnrot rn I'm soooo sorry in advance)
- natural scenes
- !!!cute girls
- impressionist studies
- houses / buildings in nature
- Pokemon related stuff
- sometimes anime? (Fullmetal alchemist, mob psycho 100, Violet Evergarden)
- photo edits
- I also do sloppy bullet journaling if anyone wants to see that?
used to be 100% digital but nowadays I mostly use watercolor and/or acrylic. occasionally use copics/ohuhu markers & oil pastels :)
also I used to be a music major so if you'd like to listen to some of my vaporwave-ish songs and remixes, you can find me on Bandcamp @ moldbelly!

Hi!
Ive been following your art for a long time and I just wanted to let you know how amazing it is!
The level of detail you do in your art is something I aspire to 😊 I picked up traditional again last year after a long break from art. And Im not nearly at the level I wanna be yet. But your art is one of the things that keeps me going, because I see how cool it is and think "I wanna do that!"
Ill keep looking forward to what you make next! 😄
Hey!
Thank you. I feel like I often lack in words for messages like these and can never quite express how important they are to me. Of course I appreciate all the likes/reblogs, but knowing I have an impact beyond that is just so special
Best of luck with your traditional art! Here are bellow some 'art-hacks' that I use in my own art
-For ink art, get a white gel pen for details. Any brand. However, ONLY use it on top of the ink HOURS after you've aplied it. The ink needs to be dry, otherwise the white will mix with the ink and make this transparent grey-ish color. This trick, unfortunately, doesn't work for bic pens.
-Regarding dry ink again; only erase the pencil lines hours after you've inked your drawing. You might smudge it otherwise. On the other hand, you might not even need to erase the pencil markings entirely. I only slightly erase them when my goal is a sketchier look.
-Put a tiny piece of paper under your hand when you draw. I've been questioned about this A LOT irl for those who see me do it, but it's to ensure the oils in your skin don't smudge your drawing. I avoid touching my drawings with my hands as much as possible. (How do I remove the eraser shavings then?? I use a soft painting brush. When the hand is necessary, I ONLY use the back of my hand)
-Graphite. HB is for sketching and I don't recommend it for shading. 2B and above works great for that. Use blending stumps wisely. Your graphite art will work great with a mix of soft AND hard edge shading (Same applies to digital art)
-Get a mono zero eraser, those erasers that are super thin, almost like a pencil (there's a square but I have the round one). The most expensive part of this are the refills (almost 3 euros for a set of 2 here...) BUT they last surprisingly long.
-Get a mechanical pencil and different refills for it. I have HB and 2B refills. Works great for small details, especially in the eyes.
-Work near a mirror. You can't flip horizontally in traditional art, so it can be more difficult to catch mistakes. I always catch them in the mirrored reflection. Sometimes I sit on the floor next to my big closet mirror and draw, turning my drawing from time to time.
-Not a fan of mirrors? No problem. For commissions, I often begin my sketch in tracing paper. It's thin enough that you can flip and easily see how your drawing looks on the other side. When you're done, just trace your sketch into a more solid paper.
-Watercolor surprise! I always have one brush with the paint and another brush, on my other hand, that just has water. Don't know if it's useful but it personally helps me make gradients faster (you hit a spot with your ink brush and then finish it with your water one)
Those are all the samll advice I have for now! They're not rules, just tricks that worked for me and that I still use till this day. If anyone has any other traditional art tricks, post a comment below!

Nopeferatu's Top 11 (ish) Favorite Fics of All Time
because....i cant sleep, and i wanted to keep this sorted out for my reference as well as for anyone else who may want a fic recc or two (or 11 1/2)
11. American in America by Ferrero13
America, being America, says something he should've known better than to say in his own airport, whereupon he is taken in for questioning and finds it very difficult to explain why this particular nineteen-year-old seems to be as politically active as the President himself.
Starting this list off with a silly canonverse oneshot. What more can I say about it? Its got Alfred at an aiport dealing with TSA and reminiscing on his life with Arthur Kirkland. What more can you want?
10. Lovely as You Are by SadLesbianPrincess...
Alfred 'The Hero' Jones is a young American MMA fighter who has his sights set on the UFC championship. But when he challenges the current champion, Ivan Braginsky, a Russian fighter who goes by the title Ivan the Terrible, things don't go quite as planned, and he finds himself in the hospital. After a few weeks alone in his hospital room, another patient is brought in to Alfred's room: a British model named Arthur Kirkland, whose bad habits have caught up with him. In that room, broken together, they learn their little secrets, see their little beauties, and put each other back together again. Running from the past as it tries to catch up with them.
“You’re like a painting,” Alfred whispered against his lips. “You move like watercolor. You breathe out colors of the sunset, you blink in shades of grass and emerald green. You touch me the way an artist touches brush to canvas, you mark my skin and bleed your paint onto me. Sometimes you’re saturated and bright, sometimes you speak in gray and black hues. Everything about you is beautiful.”
This one is ouchies. Very ouchies. Lucky for me, I love angst! I read this at the beginning of quarantine when it seemed like every usuk fan on IG was reading it alongside me and man. We all had very public emotional reactions to it.
10. ...And Hidden Verse, Hidden Heart by ChampagneSly
University AU with Alfred and Arthur as professors. In which Arthur woos a man who doesn’t know any better with poetry.
Poetry, mathematics, and star crossed lovers? Who knows—a school year holds many possibilities….
Who doesn't love a good professor au?? Plus Arthur being a lit geek and Alfred being a math nerd is always so fun to read!
9. We'll Meet Again by George deVailer
Londoner Arthur Kirkland’s pub, the Emerald Lion, is overrun by American servicemen on leave. One in particular is driving him to distraction - loud, brash fighter pilot Alfred Jones. Unable to stop it, Arthur finds himself falling for Alfred’s charms - just as the pilot is preparing to leave for war.
I know the fandom at large doesn't like George, but I hold this fic near and dear to my heart since it was one of the first pieces of transformative Heta fic that I remember ever reading when I first entered the fandom. For all the Versaverse's faults, I still find this one stands up to the test of time.
8. Pointblank by worldaccordingtofangirls
Arthur is a gifted volunteer doctor. Alfred is a bomber pilot. Love strikes us pointblank, right between the eyes, in the most inconvenient of places. The battlefield is no exception.
I finished this one recently and while it hits a lot of the same plot beats as We'll Meet Again does (even down to some small details like Alfred giving Arthur some chocolate in the midst of Britain's rationing), its definitely its own story, and a fantastic one at that. I loved it all so much.
7. Am I the Best You've Ever Had by dozefallsdownthestairs
Arthur Kirkland was a menace to society by all appearances. Even the McDonalds uniform could do nothing to soften him up. Alfred knew he shouldn't care, but he did anyway. [Unfinished]
I haven't read this since 2018 so I don't remember all of it too clearly, but I will definitely say that even tho I haven't reread it in so long, Arthur's characterization has really stuck with me all this time. I really hate reading abandoned fics...but I think I'll give this another read sometime soon because I remember it being so deliciously angsty and enjoyable that I don't mind the heartbreak that will inevitably come when I get to the last, cliffhanging chapter again.
6. Breathless by OrangePlum
Arthur Kirkland never thought that golden boy Alfred Jones would ever have a reason to attempt suicide. Then again, how much did he really know about the oh so popular blonde? The rumor mill would surely chew him up and spit him out.
This isn't necessarily romantic USUK, but if you want to read its definitely-romantic USUK sequel below, then you have to read this one first. Trigger warning for some pretty heavy topics. Like AItBYEH, I havent read this one in awhile but I really like more unconventional ways of portraying Alfred, and I found that OrangePlum managed to do that really well in a lot of their old writings and heta fancontent.
5. Static by OrangePlum
Arthur always thought that the incident with Alfred's arms would forever be the biggest hurdle their friendship would face. But as the looks change and the touches linger, it becomes frightfully clear that he was dead wrong about that. [Unfinished]
Again I REALLY HATE reading unfinished fics, but man I'm planning on rereading this series again soon, just to get to the last installment of this sequel fic. The build up is just SO SO good.
4. In Loving Memory by a_forgotten_note
Arthur Kirkland is a successful author living happily with his husband, Alfred Jones. The couple has endured many hardships throughout their relationship, but now that they're settled and comfortable, they assume those hardships are over.
That is... until Arthur and his brother are in a car accident.
Now Arthur is lost in his own life, trying to remember who he is and why he's with Alfred.
The race is on for Arthur to regain his memory, but when he can't even remember why he loved his own husband, how can he be expected to trust him?
Okay here we go, getting into top 4 territory. So I just finished this fic maybe four or five days ago and man I gotta tell you...so, I put reading this fic off since I got back into the fandom in 2018. Themes revolving around memory loss and car crashes really strike an uncomfortable chord with me due to some personal events in my life, so when I first tried picking it up two years ago, I couldn't make it past the first chapter. During quaratine a few friends ranted and raved about it at me and so I decided to try and cowboy up and get through it. Best decision I've made all quarantine. What started as a fic that I didn't even read the entirety of the first chapter of has become one of my TOP FOUR FAVORITE FICS OF ALL TIME. I really, truly got absolutely lost in their world and was so sucked in by the nature of getting to discover the story of Arthur's life alongside Arthur that I lost all sense of time when I was reading the fic. Plus, this has got to be one of, if not then it is, my favorite portrayals of Arthur in a fanfic EVER. He's witty and sarcastic but not in that way that makes him seem cold and like he hates Alfred, and he's so loving and pensive and so deeply, deeply insecure. My God. I could rave about this fic forever. TLDR; I love it. Go read it if you haven't yet.
3. He's a Keeper by Zo One
Alfred's had his pen pal, Arthur, since the second grade. But now he's becoming a man and he wants to meet his best friend, hidden behind paper and emails. What he didn't expect was the longing long distance brought.
Ahhh. He's a Keeper. Listen folks, my fic tastes are really basic. I like angsty, believable slice-of-life type fics and this is exactly that. When I first read it back in 2018, I knew I loved it a ton, but when I picked it up again back in June/July I think thats when it was really cemented as one of my top 3 faves. This year I was supposed to hop on a plane and meet my best friend (who shall remain untagged but if you know me then you likely already know who it is) for the first time IRL since we first met back in 2018, but ofc 2020 had entirely DIFFERENT plans for us. Well, long story short, rereading it again under these circumstances hit really close to home to say the least. It deals in depth with the trials and tribulations of maintaining very close long distance relationships, something I have a LOT of experience with, and it also just...generally provided a really nice mental escape for me as I got to imagine leaving quarantine and getting on a plane alongside Alfred and Arthur to begin an adventure in an unfamiliar, refreshing new territory. If you love country boy x city boy dynamics and the drama that comes from ldrs, give this fic a read!
2. Scarecrow's Lullaby by OrangePlum
His name is Arthur Kirkland, and he is in love with his best friend.
This fic. Man...don't even get me started on this fic. Despite the fact that its a one shot, this definitely is one of my favorite fictional works I have ever read, period. I have a super longstanding attatchment to this fic because I actually read it back in 2013 or so, and I still remember how much it broke me that night when I was laying under the covers at 2am and trying to stifle my crying, because I couldn't let my mom know that I was still awake when I had to get ready for middle school just a few hours after that. I have since probably reread this fic about like. I dunno, maybe a quarter of a million times? Theres just...something so achingly lonely about this fic. The prose is so good its almost poetic, and because its written in second person perspective, there is no way to escape the fact that you really are forced to sit and feel every. single. wonderful, fantastic, awful, heart-wrenching, gut-churning thing that Arthur is going through throughout the story. Really what I'm trying to say is that I've read it a million times before and I'll read it a million more. If you've ever loved and lost in any capacity and you just want to ~feel something again~, then this is the fic for you. Make sure to have a box of tissues at your side and good luck diving into the sad, sad life of the man who's in love with his best friend.
1. American Dreams in an English Village by Butterfish
Alfred and his family move to an English village and become neighbours to Arthur and his family. Arthur doesn't like the American, but they befriend each other, and slowly friendship becomes love. But that's not good in a little township!
So we're at my number one favorite fic of all time. God...where do I even begin. I started this back in 2012/2013, before I left the fandom for the duration of my hs life, however I don't remember ever actually finishing it back then. When I came back to the fandom in 2018, it was the first fic I decided to reread because I remember how much of an impact it had had on me when I was just a middle schooler. In doing that, I kinda mamaged to grow up alongside the characters, as I had greeted them when they were both just young middle schoolers like me and I finished the story when they were finishing high school like I had just done. It holds a very special place in my heart for that reason, but also just...the journey that they both go through is so, so compelling. You see as Arthur and Alfred have to navigate what it means to fall in love w your same-gendered best friend in a very closed-minded, pre-internet world. Its just...a classic queer coming of age story, so good that to me it could stand to be its own novel and get a movie adaptation, to boot.

Assumptions about you regarding your art:
- You love the texture of paper.
- You aren't exactly inspired by cartoons you've watched, but the stuff you've noticed about those styles is still drifting around in your brain.
- You've desperately wanted to eat some sort of art supplies before. Most probably colored pencils. Slightly less likely to be crayons.
- You want to capture things with a happier curve to all of its angles. (And you succeed. I feel like if I threw one of the characters you've drawn they'd bounce and laugh about it)
- Watercolor paints. Watercolor paints.
👀👀👀
ok so first off yea i lov the texture of paper omg- but like there is some paper that is smooth ish and i HATE it that stuff is horrid
yea u p much got that right- i wouldnt say that like any thing i draw is directly inspired by any cartoons but i do try to look at cartoons to make sense of things like how to draw clothing folds n things. if u asked me how i came up with the style for my hair and eyes i couldnt tell u it kinda just happened
oh for SURE. we get to use oil paints at school and oh my goodness i mixed this one orange once it took so much restraint to not put it in my mouth skdhkshs. although i prolly wouldnt want to eat colored pencils or crayons kshakhdj. also when i read this i laughed out loud kahskd very accurate :3
ooo this is so interesting. i have noticed i draw curvier but i sometimes dislike it- mostly because its due to the fact that i draw with really thick lines and i feel like it makes everything look messier :/ but also yea ur right- u prolly could take anything i draw and bounce it- i love that analogy its so cute :D that makes me feel better about it haha <3
dude ive TRIED trust me- i have zero patience for watercolor - i barely have the patience for oil paints ;w; the only time i did watercolor and it looked ok was in art class years ago and it was like- she had us do things step by step so i was forced to slow down lol… tbf tho i do use the digital watercolor brush ALL the time, its so nice for blending and shading i love it

what materials do you use for your drawings?
Hi anon!  It’s been a while I think since I’ve answered this type of question, but I don’t think much has changed. I’ll ramble about art supplies here under the cut. Disclaimer that these are probably not the absolute best supplies available, but they’re what I’m comfortable with or what I can easily find. Sometimes inexpensive to moderately priced art supplies are better for me mentally because I feel less anxious about using them up. Please don’t let that hold you back from using Nice Things if your brain isn’t Like That.
I like Strathmore Toned Tan paper (but when I started using toned paper in... 2013?ish? I was drawing on pieces of brown paper shopping bags). Brown or grey cardstock can also work, but I don’t think it erases quite as cleanly as the Strathmore paper and can tend to pick up oil from your hands more. I also like the portability of the wire-bound Strathmore sketchbook, and it lays nicely flat in the scanner (most of the time).
I draw with 2HB graphite pencils (Dixon Ticonderoga, but I doubt the specific kind makes that much of a difference). Really nothing fancy, I just find them with office/school supplies in packs of many. I like an electric sharpener to get a nice sharp point. (There are different levels of soft/hard graphite drawing pencils you might prefer though!)
For highlights, I use Prismacolor white pencils (PC938). I use a small manual sharpener for these for a blunter point and to use up less pencil when I sharpen. The one downside of these is that the lead (I know it’s not actually lead, like, Pb, but I can’t think of what else to call the inside of a colored pencil) can tend to break when sharpening, but I don’t think that’s entirely to do with how one sharpens and just relates to how they’ve been handled - being dropped on a hard surface might crack the lead inside?. I have also used General’s white charcoal, which is softer, but the Prismacolor smudges less.
I like high-polymer eraser caps. I’m sure people swear by other erasers (like a kneaded rubber), but I like having something I can shove on the end of my pencil so I don’t lose track of it. I also like the shape and the stiffness of the caps. I’m pretty sure I have an erasing shield somewhere but I literally never use it - lines that get erased as collateral damage evidently just deserved it? Regardless of eraser type, the white pencils do not erase very well.
Spray fixative helps keep your drawings from smudging, especially if you’re using a sketchbook or otherwise storing them in a stack (though I still just use one side of the page, but that’s also so I can remove drawings if I want to). A can of fixative should last you a good while, 2+ years at the rate that I draw. I have a can of Krylon workable fixative at the moment which is working out okay. I like the Prismacolor product but it’s been tough to find lately. I object to the Grumbacher fixative because it smells AWFUL, though it works fine too. Definitely put down scrap paper (newspaper, etc.) before you spray so you can get any edges of the drawing without coating the surrounding surface in fixative (RIP my desk).
It can be helpful to have a ruler and/or a T-square around.
For watercolors, I use a variety of cold-press watercolor paper (the Canson XL pads have a nice texture, and I like the Artist’s Loft Level 2 watercolor pad from Michael’s). I know serious watercolor artists often swear by Arches paper, but I find it intimidating and stick with more inexpensive paper so I don’t get too nervous to use it.
You’ll want a plastic palette for mixing colors, up to you if you prefer the rounded depressions or the shallow rectangular ones, or a combo.
I’m in a watercolor pan phase, rather than tube paints. I have a cheap set (I think also Artist’s Loft brand) that is my current go-to because it has a portrait pink pan (and I can just use the lid as the mixing palette). I do get frustrated with the limits to how saturated I can get certain colors with it, though. I bought a Sakura sketch box which I think is better quality and has more vivid tones, but I have to mix way more colors to get skintones, which I haven’t fully gotten the hang of yet.
I used to use dilute Liquitex acrylics for painting, and they did probably saturate more because of the way the paint binds to the paper, but that’s a mixed blessing -  they’re less forgiving if you make a mistake. With watercolor you can blot and rinse off with a clean wet brush (to a certain extent) if paint gets somewhere that you don’t want it on the paper, but acrylic stains way more. Also, when your watercolor paint dries on your palette, you can just add more water and continue to paint with your customized color. Acrylics dry on your palette as a film which does not redissolve well (thanks to the plastic medium) and is a certified pain in the ass to scrape off the palette. They also stain your clothes, like, forever.  I swear I have a shirt with a spot of blue acrylic paint on it from the 90′s.
My favorite watercolor brush is an angled shader, 1/4″ or 3/8″. In theory I have a liner and a spotter for detail work but in practice I just use the sharp tip of the shader like a goblin. I have experimented a little with water brushes; mostly I like the Pentel Aquash for monochromatic ink washes.
That’s probably already way more words than you wanted to read, so I’m going to stop myself here. Good luck and happy drawing and painting!

your watercolors are so great!!! i love the way you mix tracing with painting, its sooo pretty!! do you mayhaps have any tips for starters??
My first not-pro-at-all tip is that if you’re going to spend a chunk of money on ONE THING, spend money on your paper. Some cheap prang paints and okay-ish brushes will look WAY better on the good paper than the best paint on garbage paper, especially when you’re first starting out.
It can be really easy to get overwhelmed about what paint to buy, since there’s such a huge variety and color selection from brand to brand, so if you don’t already have paint, I would consider investing in a set rather than trying to pick out single colors that you may or may not like. Sets are generally curated to give you a good range of colors for whatever you’re looking to paint, and you can get a quality student set for under $30.
Once you have your supplies, I’d suggest just getting to know them before devoting yourself to A Painting. See how your paints behave for wet on wet work, how they behave for dry brushing. Play around with making different kinds of brush strokes with your brushes, see what they can do. Drop in colors and see how they mix together. For me, just Doing A Painting was really intimidating, so it was good for me to have a clear idea of how my supplies liked to behave before I devoted a lot of time and energy into a big piece.
I think the most important takeaway is to have fun and enjoy your art, even when it’s not the kind of quality you’d like it to be. People are meant to make things and there’s a joy in the process and in the making itself. It’s something that I struggle with, being in that weird awkward stage of art-making where I have a good enough eye to see all of my problems but lack the skills and techniques to just fix them, but try and remember that every single thing you paint gets you somewhere and to take pleasure in the process and not just in the product.
When you’re first starting out, most of what you paint is probably going to suck. I sucked a lot. Sometimes I still suck. But despite sucking, I sit down at my desk and open up my palette and I feel GOOD. And that’s how you’re supposed to feel.
I hope that helped. It was a long, sappy essay, but I hope that it helped. ♥️

Hiii I would like to request for a male genshin matchup if thats cool:] I'm a straight female, Sagittarius and an INFJ-T. I have brown eyes and brown-ish black-ish hair and glasses which I tend to lose often heh. I like spending time with those close to my heart but I also value my personal space and time. I like to travel but I don't mind staying in one place and settling down. I don't like frogs, I have a phobia of them for some reason. I can take other creatures like cockroaches, rats, heck even snakes, but no frogs plz:< I don't like aggresive confrontation and I'm the type of person to diffuse tense situations. I don't like heated arguments as well, they make me uncomfortable and give me huge anxiety:<
What I want in a partner is someone who is willing to listen to me, and in turn I'll listen to them. I want someone who shares the same values as I do as well. Respecting me, my beliefs and my family and friends is definitely a must. I want someone who I can confide in (and vice versa) and create a special and deep bond with. I want a relationship that isn't shallow or only about love, but about other things like trust. Someone who is patient and can humour me in the silly things I do would be really cool too:) My love languages are prob all of them ngl:] For hobbies I like listening to music and singing to myself, daydreaming, knitting and crocheting if I have the materials and reading!
I think I'm the type of person who comes across either as really intimidating or really shy, but when you really get to know me, a kind, outspoken, and sometimes feisty person. I'm kind of between being that responsible mom friend and being that friend who radiates crackhead energy, (lmao idk either) depending on the situation and vibe. I'm an independent person with strong morals, although I'm always willing to listen to other people's perspectives. I'm a pretty carefree person, and I'm someone who is willing to help another through their problems, whether that is just by listening, giving advice when asked, etc. I'm also pretty moody tho, and there are definitely times where I go from optimistic to pessimistic and vice versa. I also work well under pressure and I'm definitely an overachiever. I tend to invalidate myself and my feelings a lot and I tend to overwork, overthink, and stress myself out a lot because I bottle my emotions up:(
I don't really have an ideal date in mind, maybe something where I can really get to know the person, like maybe doing something that the other person likes doing and one that can be away from other people as well, so privacy yes. Maybe like a picnic date, a private dinner, learning the hobby of the other person or even a date that just involves staying in. For aesthetic I've been told that my aesthetic is "scholarly academia" I just asked my friend and thats what I was told hehe:]
I hope this was okay and I just kind of started to ramble so sorry about that hihi:] anyway I hope you're doing well, stay safe:]
Hi Hi! You’re my first Genshin Impact request! I hope you enjoy this and stay safe as well! I match you with...
ALBEDO
Okay so! You both seem to be calm and collected people who would listen to each other! And really I can’t say much else so onto the HEADCANONS!
ROMANTIC HEADCANONS/SCENARIO:
You were friends with Kaeya
He introduced yall two to eachother once he found out you wanted to start you childhood hobby of painting again.
Y’all unsurprisingly got along well
He, not knowing had to go about this, asked Kaeya for advice.
Terrible idea really
There was a bunch of failed attempts before Diluc just got tired of you two flirting in his bar and told you Albedo liked you
It got the point across clearly.
You’re first date was just chilling in the bar
Neither of you drank much so you just sat drawing different people passing by
He walked you home and you gave him a kiss on the doorstep
Cliche Cute Assholes
Klee likes you. Like a lot, she has brought you bombs of love only for them to blow up in your face literally
You never get mad at her for it
Fights with Albedo don’t happen often
You both find them draining and prefer to talk stuff out before it gets to that point
✨ Healthy Communication things ✨
“ (Name) Love, Do you think you can get me the watercolor? “ Albedo asked you turned away focusing on his painting . You two were on a outdoor date for inspiration when Albedo decided to surprise you. Getting the paint you hand it to him then go to sit back down. After some time you hear Albedo putting supplies away. “ You can look now , dear. “ It was a painting of you sitting there. Wind blowing your hair, clothes ruffled. “ You..” You stuttered in surprise . Albedo only smiled innocently before he pressed a Kidd to your forehead . “ I think we should head back now? “
Songs That Remind Me Of Your Relationship!:
Put Your Records On - Ritt Momney
Put Your Head On My Shoulder - Paul Anka
Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows - Lesley Gore
The Book Of Love - Peter Gabriel
Then He Kissed Me - The Crystals
DYNAMIC!:
That one healthy couple with next to no problems you can’t help but be jealous of. Come on y’all are perfect for eachother.
✨HEADCANONS✨
You have a whole portfolio of drawings/paintings Albedo had done of you
You once made a flower crown for Albedo and he still has it
Klee once called you ‘ Big Sis ‘ and you started crying right there
You and Albedo don’t really celebrate birthdays so you just have a date at the winery alone with eachother
Your favorite color is blue because of him though he just say ‘ because it’s the color of the sky “
You both have missed sleep time just tirelessly working on paintings
Once Albedo drew Kaeya and Diluc as thanks and left it on their desk. He didn’t leave a note nor signature but they knew who it was from
Just Wholesomeness between you two really
AND THATS A WRAP! HOPE YOU LIKE THIS

2. These Drawings of Tristan for Mermay which i had a lot of fun doing bc i just... want to draw nicely proportioned men sometimes. Sometimes, I just want to be gay and draw good looking men
3. My final drawing for the snape bang because really, it’s one of the bigger pieces I’ve done recently and I’m proud of the idea and concept behind it
4. Obviously, the Snanimatic because i mean.... it took me a grand total of like 30+ hours spread out over nearly three whole damn months (october-ish to january), all while i was working on stuff for school on top
5. Finally, the crowning achievement of last year: this piece i made for my digital art class back in december. It’s not pretty but i spent too long on it not to be proud

2p Japan (general) Headcanons
I haven't got any asks yet so I'll start off with these ig.
His full name is Kuro Honda
What a little bitch bean boy, no fr-
He's small but he'll kick your ass
He lives in Kyoto usually but sometimes he'll go and visit America, China or like England and live there for a couple months because- he can.
^Allen appreciates this greatly because he cannot clean for shit- Kuro goes on a mad cleaning spree and cooks all the dinner
There was a point where our boi was interested in the pastel goth aesthetic- it was mc fucking adorable he made 1 look.
But before anyone could even dwell in the cuteness this bean didn't even-
He stopped it entirely, hid away his outfit, b r u h
Only Zao knows about it, Kuro knows that Zao knows but he's threatened him many many times-
He says it'll never happen again it was just a phase-
then why do you still have the outfit Kuro-
Absolute meme garbage,
You say a refrence l, even the most vague comment in the world? He knows-
^you'll say like 1/3 of a not so well known meme or trendy song, and he'll finish it like "here come-" Kuro: DAT BOI, SHIT WHADDUP
He's a hermit low-key high-key you know? But he's still active and aware of things, to the point where you kind of don't believe he's a hermit-
^Kuro you said you weren't at the meeting because of... several anime marathons?
"Correct"
So I guess we can give you a quick brief reca-
"that'll be unnecessary I already know about everything that's going on, thank you. *leaves*"
But he wasn't here for 3 months-
But he knows....he knows-
This Bois hair grows pretty fast, so it's usually either to his mid upper back or a cute short tousled bobcut or something.
When his hair is long he'll put it in space buns at night.
He hates it when people see his space buns, because they stare weirdly-
But all of Axis thinks it's cute-
^Kuro: Lutz
Lutz: hm?
Kuro: would you remove your hand from my buns
Lutz: hmmmmmm, but they're so smol and precious
Luciano: Lutz move your hands, now.
*Lutz moving away*
Luciano: now let me see these-
Kuro likes drawing a lot so he's started a channel with tutorials.
He gets really angry at watercolor, but he still uses it aLmOsT eVeRy TiMe
He also has a commentary channel, it's high tier comedy. He has a pretty big following.
His sense of humor is pretty innapropiate so, it's mostly like 16-30 year olds watching his content
It's kinda hard to make friends with him
Probably because he knows if you'll be friends before you do-
Awkward small talk will cause him to be astrally projected to another continent
Nothing really shooks this guy, it's sort of like he's seen everything but also at this point any surprise to come that he hasn't experienced he's just thinking "this makes sense"
^Alien invasion? "Oh yeah obviously"
^Godzilla has risen to kill all of humanity. "Knew it. Allen you owe me $50"
^The matrix is real, you can truly be whatever you want because this world is fake. "This was bound to happen at some point"
You don't want to see this man visibly upset
It's a scary time.
He'll fucking fold your ass, even if you're twice his height
^ *person annoying him existing*
Kuro: yo what's up with you, wanna catch these hands?
Okay maybe he doesn't say it like that, but that's how he feels-
Kuro is pretty close to the Axis although he doesn't like them all the time.
He looks up to Luciano in a way a bit
And Lutz if we're being honest, he appreciates his charisma
He's got other country friends:
Him and Allen are pretty chill, he's pretty sure Allen has a medium sized crush on him but eh-
He wishes he could talk to Matt more but they're both pretty reserved so it's harder to talk. They still have a mutual feeling of respect for eachother though.
He actually sort of can't stand François, but only because he doesn't know his full story, he just sees him as an attractive nihilistic manwhore. (Oh but Allen and Luciano are much more different-)
This is basically it tho, ask if you want more boyfriend ish headcanons abt him
And remember my ask box is open so send in a few!
